What would you consider "the one that got away"? (aka the story that you desperately have wanted to write and for whatever reason it just has not come to pass yet?)
Good morning @neutronstarchild my dear!
There are a few actually. The two that come to mind immediately are the Inuyasha Farscape and Old Kingdom AUs. I've started them, I have ideas and mirrored plot points written down... But I just haven't had the bandwidth to sit and really get into my notes. Trying to do both universes justice is going to take a lot more focus than I have time for right now.
Someday...

Spark Doll! Tartarus: I'm only judging on my experience with you, but I've never seen such a deficient species.
R/n, she looks at him flatly: Did anyone call or stop by while I was out?
Tartarus: How do humans make it through a cycle, even half a cycle without killing each other?
R/n, getting irritated: Trust me, we find it difficultâ Did anyone stop by?
Tartarus: You have no special abilities. You're not particularly smart, can hardly smell, can barely see, and you're not even vaguely physically or spiritually imposing. Is there anything you do well?
R/n:...Watch sports or something, damn.

Did Voyager fandom ever go through the Casablanca AU phase back in the 90s and early aughts?
The theme was angst and the ship doesn't end up together just like in the movie. But the 'Rick' analog in the story almost always ends with a new beautiful friendship.
Off the top of my head of fandoms that's had that one or two really good Casablanca AU multi-chapter fics:
The X-Files - Letters of Transit by Loch Ness (Mulder/Scully)
I think LoT was the first fic that kicked off this whole chain. Post-Colonization.
Itâs 1999â The Date has come and gone, the âProjectâ is underway and deadly bees have been unleashed on North America. With the world coming apart and people scrambling to get away from the swarm. Mulder faces fateful decisions about his own role in events to comeâ and about Scully.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel the Series - As Time Goes By by Yahtzee - Angel/Cordelia, Buffy/Angel (Buffy as Laszlo, Angel as Ilsa, Cordy as Rick).
This story is set six years from now and may contain spoilers for anything that has happened through early Season Three ATS and Season Six BTVS. After that, things begin to go AU. You'll be able to tell where canon is and is not in force. Also, if you haven't watched "Casablanca" before -- well, first of all, what HAVE you been doing with yourself? Go rent it! If you choose to read this first, you'll be spoiled for the movie. (Not that anything actually spoils "Casablanca.")
Farscape - Bellum Interruptum by Cofax (John/Aeryn)
Of all the crappy little bars on rundown stations at the ass end of the universe, she had to walk into mine.
Also, I think there was an Alias fic based on the same idea but for the life of me I can't remember what it was.
Did Star Trek ever join the ranks (specifically Voyager)?
It would be a shame if there was none because the Voyager crew are practically dressed for it in The Killing Game.

crumb of an idea where philippa time travels and meets her younger self aboard voyager
something something the timeline catches up to the endgame admiral janeway timeline (so like 20 years or w/e) and errrrr philippa gets recruited by the DTI something something *endgame!amelia being with the krenim and trying to mess things up and theyre using her to get to this alternate version of her sister something something both parties are going back to the events of Endgame so philippa sees her five year old self while she's trying to stop her sister from doing damage to the timeline IDK :)
*kinda got inspied from @elephant-in-the-pride-parade's Lesson Plans endgame chapter where the admiral says that philippa abandons voyager in the DQ, amelia makes it home after those 20 years but immediately leaves to find her sister,,,,,,,, my idea being that that timeline's amelia ends up with the krenim to try and get her sister back and its jorking up everything
#art#wip#its farscape dialogue đ¤Ą#im not cool i promise#peppa being like FRESH academy age and getting recruited like a special snowflake main character#ive always yearned to do an evil!amelia story that ISNT mirrorverse haha#just a messy time travel idea!#threshold au

I finally posted the first chapter of Bite the Dust so I deserve to noodle on John getting service-topped by Aeryn, right?
I'm actually trying to finish the first chapter of this so I can post it too, since I hear October of the month to write kinky fanfiction? But I'm still pretty dry on ideas for S&M bachelor party games (I've got the groom getting spanked and that's it, anyone have any wild stories, they don't need to be true?). So instead I'm reworking part of chapter three, and this is some of that.
I'm used to BDSM being a sex thing, so I was struggling to figure out how to get John to want Aeryn (Aaron he's still confused about her gender) to be a domme for him, and what that would look like without sex or anything close to it being on the table (because John is sort of seeing Gilina, and I don't want to make a cheater out of him). This is what I came up with, let me know if it is believable? (PG, barely even kinky).
âUh, thanks. I donât⌠donât know what happened back there, but thanks.â John fumbled with the can, popping it open and taking a quick sip. The bubbles burned the back of his throat. He wasnât much of a soda person usually, but it tasted surprisingly good.
âYou were having a panic attack, Aaron said with a bluntness that was like a slap to the face.
John wanted to protest, but it seemed pointless. And there was no judgment in the stern face; there was barely even interest. âI guess I was,â he finally admitted. âThanks for getting me out of there, especially after⌠earlier.â
Aaron just watched him, until John took another drink from the can just to make the silence less awkward. The hand holding the can was still shaking. He tried to hide it by setting the can back down, but the domme snapped, âKeep drinking.â
When John finished another sip, Aaron rose from the crouch to sit next to him on the bench, and without preamble pulled John's hand to lay on that black leather-clad thigh. Before John could ask, cool fingers were pressing firmly over his pulse. Like the rest of the man, Aaronâs hands were a confusing mix of masculine and feminine. Long fingers with slightly pointed nails, painted red this time, with no rings or other jewelry. But he took time from a wide aviators watch that looked both too large and somehow perfectly suited to that slim, sinewy wrist.
He was about to comment on it--it was a really nice watch--when John realized it probably wasn't a fashion choice, but a remnant from the man's former life as an RAAF pilot. Instead he asked, âI guess this has happened to you? You seem to know exactly what to do.â
Aaron snorted derisively, standing up again, and taking the washcloth with him. âIt's part of the job.â he said, raising his voice as he walked back to the bathroom. âPeople don't always realize they even have triggers until we run across them during a session. Kink and trauma aren't always related, but it's a cliche for a reason.â The water ran for a bit, then the man came back, handing John a washcloth that was now steaming hot. âRub that on your wrists and neck,â he said, the crisp dominatrix tone returning to his voice. âPay attention to how it feels on your skin.â
It hurt, was how it felt, burning his fingers. They had good water heaters in this building. But John unbuttoned his sleeves so he didnât get them wet, and did what the domme wanted. The rough cloth reminded him suddenly of a cat theyâd had, Mr. Jingles, who was usually a bit standoffish, unless, in the way cats had, he sensed the depths of teenage woe. John had been nudged out of a self-pitying funk more than once by a wet, warm, sandpaper tongue, grooming his arm hairs into place.
âGive me that,â Aaron said impatiently, pulling the washcloth away before John could offer it. The domme stepped in closer, one hand undoing a couple more buttons on his dress shirt, before the other applied the warm towel to the front of his neck.
It seemed pointless to fight, so John let him tilt his chin up and rub along the sides of his neck, and under, cooling now, so it wasnât quite painful. The fabric caught on his stubble, John hadnât shaved since the morning, adding to that catâs tongue sensation. Fingers pressed into the hollow of his throat, taking his pulse again, even while the cloth continued to rub up and down the column of his neck, warming him. John hadnât realized he was cold, but he had to stop himself from trying to hold the washcloth to his skin when after a minute Aaron stepped away with it still in his hand.
âGetting better, but you should finish that soda.â The domme turned his back on John, pulling a drawer out and dropping the damp cloth into the hamper hidden inside.
John knew he must be recovering because he couldnât help staring at the manâs butt. In his defense, it was just as good as he remembered from the stag do. Between the heels and the leather it was really selling the illusion. He took a big drink of soda. He needed to finish this can and get out of here. âThanks again,â John said to fill the silence.
âWas that your first?â The domme turned around to lean against the cabinets, arms folding, back to giving John that cool, speculative look.
âNot exactly.â He didnât really want to go into it, but felt like he owed this person at least a little honesty. âI would appreciate you not mentioning that to anyone, though.â He wasnât really worried about word getting back to IASA from the employees of a Sydney sex shop, even one that used to be military, but he should still try to do damage control. His head was throbbing, and he rubbed at it with his free hand. Just the thought of IASA and he could feel his heart starting to race again.
âWhy would I ever mention it?â Aaron looked momentarily bemused. âIt's not my business. But you should be seeing someone. You were strongly disassociating.â The manâs stare suddenly intensified. âFinish that soda. Chug it.â
John didnât want to, but Aaronâs voice had resumed its angry snap. He found himself lifting the can to his lips and drinking the rest of the Coke down in three gulps. The fizzy beverage burned down the back of his throat.
âGood. Is it cold? Do you feel it going down? Bubbles in your nose? Donât answer me, just pay attention.â He came off the wall to loom over John again. âCrush the can in your hand, slowly. Listen to the sound. Breathe in for a count of six, hold it, then breathe out for four. And repeat.â
The orders were banal, but John tried to obey. He was starting to see there was a meaning to it, Aaron wasnât just practicing some weird kink thing on him. He focused on the tickling in his throat, the crinkles of aluminum, the constriction as he inhaled past the tightness of his chest, and then the pain as sharp edges of crumpled can bit into his palm. By the time he had finished the two demanded breaths, he felt calmer again. The can was thoroughly flattened, and he offered the scrap of metal up to Aaron like a present. âYouâre good at this.â
âYes, I am.â Aaron dropped the trash into another drawer. âGive me your wrist,â he demanded, a little irritably, and started to take Johnâs pulse again....

I had the chance to commission Kahl'ryn from @psychededoodle. I have no words for how much I love this. Everything, all the details, the expression, the scar, the cybernetics, everything is so well done!!
And with this amazing portrait - I'm gonna talk a bit about Kahl and what he is up to in my Arclight AU. So... some rambling thoughts under the cut. :)
For reference: The Arclight AU is a melting pot of various sci-fi franchises. Star Wars, Farscape, WildStar, Star Trek, to just name a few. However, the core of it is Star Wars. A lot of the universe rules are Star Wars rules - such as how space travel works and the Force.
The major players from Star Wars include: the Galactic Empire, the Mandalorians, the Sith Empire, the Chiss Ascendancy, the High Republic, and the Grysk Hegemony.
Much like swtor!Kahl, arclight!Kahl was born in the Sith Empire. His father is the (now former) Sith Lord Xhai'tan. He was trapped in a burning building when he was a child, which is how he got the burn scars. He joined the Imperial Academy and joined Imperial Intelligence upon graduating. Some of his first missions included hunting down terrorists and stopping Darth Jadus. For his double agent arc however, he didn't infiltrate the SIS.
In Arclight the Sith Empire is mostly at odds with the Dominion from WildStar. So, Kahl is tasked with infiltrating the Dominion and carrying out his mission there. The Star Cabal is still a threat and Kahl eventually dismantles it.
Now things really start to diverge. You see, most everything from Shadow of Revan onward doesn't happen. So how does my boy meet Theron?
I made the executive decision that since the Republic isn't the same Republic as in swtor and isn't the power in direct conflict with the Sith Empire, that Theron would instead be from the Dominion. ((I know, I know, not the best allegory if you know anything about the Dominion - like they live up to their name. Does make it way easier for Theron to defect though.))
Then I needed the catalyzing event. Enter the Dread Masters. They were imprisoned by the Dominion, but they escape but with Emperor Vitiate dead (did I mention that? no? So, yeah Emperor Vitiate does die, and after a short war between the Sith, Acina comes out on top and takes the Throne - this is also the time of Malgus's first betrayal,) they go rogue.
Kahl is called in to help with the situation by Lana and she eventually wrangles the help of Theron in tracking and defeating the Dread Masters. Much like in Shadow of Revan, Kahl and Theron grow close.
Then the tradegy of Grismara happens. For those unfamiliar with WildStar. Grismara was home to the Mordesh. A elf-like species who were masters of science, alchemy, and art. They were arrogant and proud, sure of their own superiority. That was until the Everlife Elixir, developed by their most lauded scientist became their curse. The Everlife was meant to give immortality, and they trusted Dr. Lazarin so much that it was distributed worldwide. Then the Everlife became the Contagion. Everyone (and the lore implies everyone) slowly turned into super aggressive mindless cannibals (basically zombies).
Grismara was a neutral world on the edge of Sith and Dominion borders. Both sides were trying to ally with them, but when the Contagion broke out - the Sith turned their back on the world and the Dominion set up a blockade and quarantined it.
Kahl and Theron disobeyed orders to try and help the Mordesh. During that terrible year long attempt at saving the Mordesh, Dr. Lazarin made a small break through. He created the Vitalis Serum, which delayed the effects of the Contagion, but also required frequent injections. The remaining Mordesh were trapped in a half-life. They no longer age (they got their immortality) but they also are unable to have children unless a cure can be found.
Kahl and Theron organized for the last of the Mordesh, to escape. Taking them to the Odessen Coalition. A small and new coalition of planets that came together with the help of Xhai'tan (Kahl's father) and Thrass (who is alive and rescued by Xhai'tan - That is another books of thoughts so if you are curious about how Thrass fits in here feel free to ask.)
With the fall of Grismara, Kahl and Theron defect and join the Coalition. Kahl eventually commanding a heavy cruiser as part of the Maarasu Nighthunters - the Odessen Defense Force division in charge of covert operations and missions that take place beyond the borders of the Coalition. It is Kahl who finds Thrawn and Ezra where they have been stranded for 7 years (again another book of thoughts that I can talk about later). Kahl then goes on to support Thrawn, Thrass, Eli, and the others Chiss fighting to save the Ascendancy.
I'll stop there but....yeah so lots of thoughts.....enjoy!
#arclight: kahl'ryn#my oc#imperial agent#twi'lek#swtor#star wars#star wars au#psychededoodle art#not my art#commissioned art#arclight au#so many thoughts#so much to write#and only the first prologue done#yep think there might be more then one before I am finished#I can and will talk for day to anyone interested about all this

Tagged by @tina-mairin-goldstein! Tagging whoever else wants to play.
1.How many fics do you have on AO3?
78.
2. What's your total word count on AO3?
934,933. Wow, maybe I can break a million this year....
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Just HANNIBAL right now (and for like the last seven years or so). Been vaguely thinking about picking up a second but nothing has caught my interest strongly enough.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
Attachment - 7,592
The Fisherman and the Beast from the Sea - 4,565
Sashimi - 2,807
Hungry Ghost - 1,585
Identically Different - 1,382 <- This is my best series and yall should give it a shot <3
5. Do you respond to comments?
I try to, and I enjoy doing so, but sometimes the brainworms win and I don't get stuff done even when I really want to.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Breathless
I don't love this story, but "Hannibal is effectively braindead after the fall, but Will keeps caring for the body and feels that Hannibal is there with him, up until the body dies and Will turns himself in because there isn't any point anymore" probably counts as the most angsty? If you are in the market for a "Hannibal receives a brain injury and he, along with everyone else around him, has to cope with that" story Tina's For Remembrance (Holes in the Floor of the Mind) is a much better pick. And as I continue to think about it, Means of Influence has a pretty angsty ending.
7. What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Most of my stories have slightly bittersweet but still mostly happy endings. Part of the thing about that is I think it's really hard to envision a situation where Will is like 100% Happy Happy, his own mind hates him too much and every little scrap of happiness needs to be fought for and then vigilantly guarded. But I put both him and Hannibal through so much that I always want them to be as close to content as they each can be.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I have gotten two flavors of Fic Hate. 1.) People calling the five year old kid OC in ATTACHMENT slurs like "r*tard" and saying "he belongs in jail" and etc.
Every time Hannibal or Will fuck someone who isn't each other at least one person decides to Yell At Me.
I think I've gotten the old "you didn't tag for bottom Hannibal!!" nonsense once or twice too, but who hasn't?
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
A little. I actually started Hannishark bc I was really intimidated by sex scenes and wanted to see if I could pull off a short monsterfucker story. I feel like I've gotten better at writing these but am generally more comfortable leaving them sparce on anatomical details and big on feelings/conversations.
10. Do you write crossovers? If so, what's the craziest one?
I've got a WRONG TURN crossover series that I'm very proud of here: Bear Mountain Road AU. You don't need to have seen any of the movies to read it, or anything, the movies' premise of "a clan of inbred mountain cannibals waylays travelers" is really just an excuse to put Hannibal (and Will and D, as child members of the cannibal family) In Situations. If I counts as a cross over, I've got a universe swap between the novels and NBC HANNIBAL here: Shiloh
I also have a vague idea for a SAW / HANNIBAL crossover but I've been sitting on that for so long, who knows if it'll ever happen?
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not so far as I know.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes, several times.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic?
Yep, a couple of times.
14. What's your all time favorite ship?
Hannigram and Reba/D (guys we need a fuckin ship name).
15. What are your writing strengths?
Character, emotions, dialogue.
16. What are your writing weaknesses?
Sex scenes, pacing.
17. Thoughts writing dialogue in another language?
Fine by me, tho I only think I've done it one or twice.
18. First fandom you wrote for?
FARSCAPE.
19. Favorite fic you've written?
Identically Different AU !!!! This it the best thing I've ever written and probably the best thing I will ever write.

Any Farscape fans here?
While I'm waiting for the WGA strike to resolve, I've decided to put my #Farscape #fanfiction AU novels back on my The Crais Chronicles website. It's going to take a few weeks. The final chapters of the series of novels need to be rewritten. The doc files have disappeared and the HTML I coded are blank. Woe is me. I know every scene I wrote by heart, but now my style is genre-based and the novels were written in literary style.
When my BFF let me know Claudia Black promoted the website on her Tumblr blog, I knew I had to put it back up.
I will post an update when it's all finished and ready for your Captain Bialar Crais reading pleasure. And yes, everyone shows up, including John, Aeryn, and all the rest. It's a long-form series about Crais getting himself together and becoming--mostly--a decent citizen.

Stargate rewatch: 1x19 There But For The Grace of God
One of my favourite episodes titles of the series, also kicking off what is essentially a four episode arc to end season 1 and kick off season 2. 90âs tv was the eternal battle between episodic and arc-based storytelling, and I actually think the show threaded the needle quite well.
I do love an alternative universe episode, back in the beforetimes when a multiverse served a story purpose and not just a fodder for fanservice of the âyour favourite character, and theyâve got a new hat!â variety.
The story credit for this episode is David Kemper, an Executive Producer for Farscape, but this is his only Stargate contribution. Robert C Cooper wrote the teleplay, and the episode was directed by David Warry-Smith, his first of 11 for the show.
Love that they brought back Catherine, Elizabeth Hoffman is great (RIP). Given that Jack is a general in this timeline, perhaps we can assume he kept her on the project as opposed to the main timelineâs General West shutting things down/sidelining her after Abydos?
But Jack still went on the Abydos (suicide) mission so presumably wasnât a general at that time. I know we have to be la la la donât think about it with the alternate timelines but Iâm so curious how things went down in this universe!
How long did it take them to work out how to use the gate without Danielâs help? I guess they couldnât communicate with the Abydonians without Daniel but they still were able to kill Ra - how? If they never went to Chulak what triggered Apophisâs interest in them to mount an attack on Earth? Why is the attack in this universe before the attack in the prime universe when really the events should be delayed in the AU?
This is a decent wig for Sam. Sadly, the only decent wig sheâll get the entire series.
I also wonder what was the difference in this universe so Sam didnât join the Airforce.
Daniel guilelessly giving the address for Chulak right after taking about Jack intending to blow up Abydos. Heâs so used to his Jack whose come so far since then, never even thinking that alt!Jack may not have, and what they might want the coordinates for.
lol, Daniel walks down the stairs, crosses the room, looks at the map, then puts on his glasses.
âEvery one of those red dots is a destroyed city.â Apophis a fan of the United Celtic Nations it seems.
Daniel finally twigs that he might be in an alternate reality (with Sam defining it for him), but we canât be too harsh, he canonically has zero pop culture game and this was the 90âs. Even in todays over-saturation of multiverse content Daniel would probably still have no clue.
They made a decent attempt at Spader!Daniel with this pic!
Daniel and being dead/missing in alternate realities/timelines, name a better duo.
It is interesting that in a lot of the AUs the show explores, Danielâs lack of involvement in the Stargate program coincides with that universe being doomed.
I forgot that the 38 minute gate window was first established in this episode! Thatâs a huge piece of lore originating in an alternate universe.
It wouldnât be an alternate universe without at least one character with silly hair.
Generally I prefer AUs that explore character rather than ones used to advance plot (or are lazy fanservice looking at you mcu), and while the primary purpose of this episode is to give Daniel forewarning of the Goaâuld attack and the gate address to the source, there is some nice stuff here especially around Jack and Tealâc.
Because at their core alt!Jack and alt!Tealâc are still the same - Tealâc still hates the Goaâuld, Jack is still willing to take big risks on his instincts, and thereâs a mirror to Children of the Gods where Jack reaches out to Tealâc, but itâs a dark mirror, and itâs the little differences that matter because Jack isnât the same person as the one in CotG, who went through the Abydos mission with Daniel and came out a better person, instead heâs the one that sent the bomb that killed Tealâcâs family, and it dooms them both.
Opening credits shot!
âI also wish to blow us all to hell.â Alt!Sam is a badass. No difference to prime!Sam there.
Thereâs also an interesting moment between Tealâc and Daniel in the gateroom - Tealâc doesnât shoot straight away when he could have, so maybe Jack telling him of the alternate universe where Tealâc was fighting the Goaâuld got through. He still fires as Daniel runs for the gate, but only hits him in the shoulder - at such close range Tealâc could probably have made the kill shot. His hesitation saved Danielâs life, and ultimately the life of his other self.
Because Danielâs presence in the other reality changes nothing for it - alt Jack, Sam, Tealâc and Catherine all still die, the Stargate is destroyed and that would have happened anyway (with maybe the exception of Jack being able to stall Tealâc to set the self destruct).
But Danielâs changed - there but for the grace of god (or fate) go our team.

20 Questions for Fic Writers
Tagged by @thekristen999
How many works do you have on ao3? 21
What's your total ao3 word count? 380,201
What fandoms do you write for? Working on some 911 that I havenât actually posted yet, and Teen Wolf, which has shifted to the back burner because Eddie Diaz took over my brain.
Top five fics by kudos: A Crooked Way to Fly Tabula Rasa Gift Trapped From Ashes The Guard and Red
Do you respond to comments? I fully intend to. And then my inbox is full of comment notifications from six years ago. I'm sorry I know I suck!!!
What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? I donât think Iâve written an angsty ending?Â
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? All of them, I think.
Do you get hate on fics? Occasionally someone will say they didnât like the ending of Tabula Rasa, but thatâs it. And I get it.
Do you write smut? Nah. Once I found out that the actors had seen my art (for both Teen Wolf and 911), that fourth wall imploded in my mind and now it makes me too uncomfortable.
Craziest crossover: I havenât done proper crossovers, but I did a Sterek Shrek AU one time that was unexpected.
Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I know of. Someone once took a sketch, colored it in, and reposted it as their OCs, but thatâs the closest.
Have you ever had a fic translated? I think so? I know people have asked to translate them, but I never actually checked after.
Have you ever co-written a fic before? As in putting my own words in a doc, no. But @petals42 and I collaborated a lot with brainstorming and plotting, and then she did the writing and I did the art.
All time favourite ship? To write? Tied between Sterek and Buddie. But I also love Veronica and Logan from Veronica Mars, and John and Aeryn in Farscape, even though Iâve never wanted to write or really read fic for them.
What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will? My Teen Wolf season one rewrite! Stiles is Derekâs age and a deputy, and he and Derek knew each other in high school. I still love it, it was just a monster and I havenât been in that mode for a long time. I still have hope! I want to! If only for my own satisfaction.
What are your writing strengths? Iâve been told Iâm pretty good at in character dialogue, at least with Stilesâ voice, and thatâs the part I enjoy the most.
What are your writing weaknesses? Descriptions and likeâŚactual, genuine emotions, I think. Whenever I try to write the heavier stuff, it feels way too melodramatic and then I cut it way back to the point where itâs basically gone.
Thoughts on dialogue in another language? If thereâs plenty of context around it so you can get the gist of what theyâre saying, then itâs okay. Like in Oceans how Yen never speaks a word of English, but everyone elseâs responses tell you what he was saying. Otherwise I tend to prefer things like, âHe said in Spanish,â or âThey argued in Spanish for a minute.âÂ
First fandom you wrote in? Either Alex Rider or School of Rock. đŹ
Favourite fic you've written? I still really like this outsider pov fic. I fucking love outsider pov. I have a 911 outsider pov thatâs been mostly done for like two years, but then I realized the actual team isnât in it enough to make people want to read it, so it's just kind of sitting there.

I've decided that I want to post the sex shop AU in October so I'm trying to see how much I can finish by then. I'm at 13,000 words so that's about 2500 a week, a solid goal. I'm going to force myself to alternate with the next unfamiliar idiom, so this week you get spice.
I'm still feeling my way through how to make this interesting, so let me know if this is on track. This bit is still teen rated, though we're starting to get somewhere. John encounters Aeryn at The Leviathan while he's buying lingerie for Gilina. Chi has called Aeryn over to get her help showing John some handcuffs and Aeryn amuses herself ordering him around and giving him the hard sell. Still thinking she's a man in drag, he gets very confused about why he finds a dude manhandling him so hot when he's hella straight (uh huh).
John held up his hands, âI donât think handcuffs are really my thing.â
Aaron gave him a look that John couldnât interpret. It wasnât mocking, more skeptical or curious. âIndulge me,â the man said, in a way that made it somehow impossible for John to continue to protest. He didnât move as Aaron wrapped a wide, soft, black rleather cuff around his wrist. Holding Johnâs gaze with those deep gray eyes, the man didnât seem to even be looking as he buckled the strap, firm, but not tight. âThese are padded, and comfortable for long-term wear. Always ensure you can fit at least one finger between skin and cuff, and generally not more than two.â Aaron slipped one slim finger along the inside of Johnâs wrist, then wriggled a second into the cuff, until John could feel his own pulse against the manâs fingertips. âChina, get a chain.â
The girl snapped upright immediately, and moved past them down the aisle. âOh thatâs okay,â John tried to protest, but Aaron had turned his fingers, still inside the cuff, and was pulling Johnâs hand closer.
âThese come with several D-rings, which give you more options for attachment. The straps adjust pretty widely, so these can be used on wrists or ankles, on a wide variety of people. Make a fist.â Aaron withdrew his fingers just before John obeyed him, then tugged on the cuff, which was still able to move slightly. âThis is top-grain leather, durable. If conditioner is used after extended sessions, these cuffs can last for years and they come with a ten year warranty against hardware failure.â
John felt like he should be saying something, but it was hard to interrupt the dom. Chi had come back with a chain powder-coated a navy blue, and capped with carabiners on both ends. She handed this to Aaron. âChina,â the man said, without elaboration, but the girl instantly held up her own arm to be buckled into the matching cuff. âAs you can see, they really do fit a range of sizes,â Aaron said, finally releasing Johnâs gaze to focus on buckling the girl into almost the smallest hole, checking the fit with a finger, then attaching the chain to a ring on each cuff. âAnd I think the act of fastening the buckles is much more sensuous than the handcuff style, donât you?â Aaron looked up at John.
âUh, I guess,â he mumbled, feeling that fuzzy feeling again even though the beers really should be wearing off. The click of the clip on the ring had stirred something John didnât want to think about.
âGo ahead and pull, youâll see the difference.â
John glanced with uncertainty over at China, who had dropped the feisty teenager act and was just watching him, a small smile on her pink-painted lips, her wrist held up so the chain swung freely between them. At Johnâs look she slowly pulled her hand toward her chest, motioning with her free hand for him to do the same.
âThatâs okay,â he said, trying to wave the girl off.
But Aaron grabbed the middle of the chain and yanked both of them. âPull.â
John yanked back, using enough force that he finally got Aaron to move, until the man braced himself. He had to admit, it didnât hurt the way the plastic-- poly-carbon-- cuffs had. The pressure was firm, but not painful. âYeah, thatâs better,â he agreed, still quietly trying to get the dom off balance, but he stopped when Aaron jerked the chain again, tugging both of their arms closer.
âChina, you can unbuckle yourself.â Aaron said. He was definitely using the domme voice, commanding, calm, and contralto. Chi did what he asked, unbuckling and handing the cuff to Aaron, who hadnât released the chain still leashing John.
âCan I?â John asked, waggling his wrist. He was trying not to notice the small shocks down his spine every time the cuff tightened on his skin.
âSoon.â A sharp tug emphasized the curt word, bringing Johnâs attention back to Aaronâs face. The man had used the dominatrix voice again, which was disconcerting, especially when John was bound up so close to that confusingly beautiful face.
âCuffs and chains are sold separately, so you can choose what fits your needs,â Aaron went on in a more neutral tone. âThis is a good length to start with. You can move the carabiners to provide as much or as little slack between the cuffs as you want, or even clip them together. The clips can be used to secure the chain around a bedframe or bedpost, but use a towel in between to avoid damage to your furniture.â The dom demonstrated making a circle with the clip. âThis is a little short for ankle restraint, but still enough room to have some fun.â He unclipped the chain completely, demonstrating the length, which was about eighteen inches. âYou can unbuckle that now, John.â
John blinked at the use of his name. Apparently Aaron had remembered that too. He pulled on the strap, relieved to see that it came loose from the buckle easily. âThanks for the demonstration,â he said as he started to hand the cuff back.
âMy pleasure,â Aaron said, with the barest hint of a smile. âI really do recommend this set for anyone wanting to experiment. Itâs versatile, high quality, and impossible to be trapped in, at least accidentally. But limit your use to half an hour or less until you and your partner are comfortable, to avoid injury or chafing.â Aaron took the cuffs back, clipping them, and then handed the set to Chi. âThe black and navy looks good with that,â he said, nodding at the lingerie. âChelsea, make sure John gets leather conditioner too.â
âSure thing Aaron, thanks,â Chi said, head bobbing vigorously.
Before John could say anything, though, the confusing man was walking away down the aisle toward the exit.
âThis way, Iâll ring you up,â the girl said, heading back toward the central counter, and snagging something from an end-cap on the way.
John followed along behind, once again not sure exactly what to make of his encounter with the dominatrix, but feeling on edge in every sense. Walking made him uncomfortably aware of just how easily the man affected him with his casual treatment of Johnâs body, and how quickly John forgot it was in fact a man handling him. It was just an act, but being on the receiving end of that much focus and control apparently did something to his balls, and John did not want to think about that too hard.

Answer the Questions and Tag 5 Fanfic Authors
I was tagged by @youareiron-andyouarestrong and @menina89 for a fanfic writer tag game, which was quite fun to do!
1 . How did you get into writing fanfiction? A lot of the very early stories I wrote down were continuations of books I read. In one of my summer journals my mom would have us keep in elementary school, I found a story extending The Littles with characters who were welcoming a new baby. See, kidfic was my favorite even when I myself was a kid! Of course, it was only much later that I heard of the concept of fanfiction, in high school. Shortly thereafter, I booked it to the school library during lunch or a free period and banged out a Supernatural wee!chesters sickfic. Created an FFN account and, as they say, the rest is history.
2. How many fandoms have you written in? Counting just what I've posted to AO3 (so not all the stuff from early childhood), and not double counting adaptations as separate fandoms, 19 so far. Not telling which, but that will be increasing to 20 in the near future...
3. How many years have you been writing fanfiction? That story I told above was from when I was 6 or 7, if you want to count that. Otherwise, somewhere around 15.
4. Do you read or write more fanfiction? Usually I'd say I read more, but it's been about even lately, particularly as I've been writing mostly for Lockwood & Co - I'm really, really picky with what I'm comfortable reading in that fandom. Lately, though, I've been reading more for other fandoms (particularly Dune and Little Women, and making a small dent in a large backlog of reading for some of my earlier fandoms, like Stargate Atlantis, Farscape, and Fringe).
5. What is one way youâve improved as a writer? Writing conflict. It's still not something I find easy, but it's something I find rewarding, so I've been working at it. And I think I've come a long way so far.
6. Whatâs the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project? When I was writing my Those Binary Stars 'verse for Endeavour, I did frequent, if light, research to keep things as historically accurate as possible. Stuff like when were whiteboards invented, when did Scrabble enter the mainstream, when did people start using car seats with children and what were they like earlier on...
7. Whatâs your favorite type of comment to receive on your work? When somebody picks up on symbolism I infused into a fic, that's so exciting. Sometimes it's something I didn't fully notice as I was writing, which is a bonus! It's also a delight to hear specific lines that worked for a reader, or hear that everyone is in character (this is especially vindicating for minor and/or complicated characters).
8. Whatâs the most fringe trope/topic you write about? Probably my more explicitly religious fic? It doesn't feel super fringe most of the time, given my writing circle, but in the grand scheme, I recognize that it is.
9. What is the hardest type of story for you to write? Anything with significant plot, especially if I have to account for the passage of time. I also find major AUs impossible. Minor canon divergence, sure, especially if deviating from a particular moment in canon. Changing the setting or foundational truths about canon? Terrifying.
10. What is the easiest type? Some drabbles practically write themselves. As indicated above, I am a canon-compliant girlie. Post-canon is where it's at, although I also like magnifying a moment in canon to peel apart the layers and dive deep into the emotion. This works especially well for angstier work, which, perhaps contrary to appearances, I often find flows more easily than fluff for me.
11. Where do you do your writing? What platform? When? I mostly use Scrivener, on my couch at home in the evening, laptop propped on a pillow on my lap, horizontal to varying degrees. One day my back will hate me for this. I also do a lot of preliminary writing prep in the notes app on my phone, wherever I am (on the train, in bed, in a meeting at work, etc).
12. What is something youâve been too nervous/intimidated to write, but would love to write one day? I've got three rather ambitious AUs in progress, which I'd love to write but I think I'd have to break them apart a bit into things I could do in stages, perhaps a series of oneshots posted out of order, like Restore the Years has turned into (but with more overarching plot). In order of increasing difficulty/plottiness: Lockwood & Co office menace Skull AU, Fringe S4 fix-it AU, Endeavour spy AU.
13. What made you choose your username? I started as visionsofmangos on FFN (and later, AO3), which was my attempt to follow John Green's idea to just throw together a couple words that sounded sort of pretty and poetic in combination but didn't inherently mean anything. (I don't even especially like mangoes, and usually spell that word with the E.) This is because I had something to post and no idea what to call myself and I was in a rush, and also because I very intentionally did not want to use the same username as I used for Tumblr - I would share my early fanfiction with my sister and some IRL friends, but my Tumblr existence was separate. (Even now, although I have my Tumblr linked from my AO3 profile, I'm more comfortable with the reverse - my Tumblr peeps are welcome to my fanfic, but I'm a little nervous about fanfic people coming to find me in a wizard hat eating mayonnaise out of the jar at midnight on this here blog, or however the post goes.) I eventually chose human_dreamer_etcetera for my "everywhere except Tumblr" username, which I used a lot as a self-description prior to that and quite like for its more meaningful poeticism.
Zero-pressure tagging @astridcontramundum, @karasbroken, @insidethekaleidoscope, @paranorahjones, and @hiddenvioletsgrow!
