Sports v Musical AU - @distractivate's beautiful This time around is so evocative and awash with feels and lovely writing. Former boyband member David struggles to handle his feelings about the reunion tour's new recruit, one bone fide musician and woeful dancer, Patrick Brewer.
Childhood friends v Enemies to lovers - there are a lot of absolutely wonderful enemies to lovers fics, but I reread Red, White and Bluejays @grapehyasynth recently, and ... it hit me like a big warm blanket and a cup of cocoa (which sounds messier than I meant). Grape does a wonderful job of making the adaptation feel natural for these characters. It's a gorgeous read. Childhood friends, on the other hand, are beautifully served in odofidi's There's Only You and Me series, with some truly lovely flashbacks alongside a heartstring-tugging story.
David POV v Patrick POV - honestly impossible to choose, and I love them both. It's also impossible to select just two, so I'm going to choose two that are wonderful without thinking too hard: David's POV, Improv piecing by @my-nameless-bliss is heartbreakingly lovely study of David navigating his early relationship with Patrick. For Patrick's POV, Waiting on the day by @noahreids is one of the first fics I absolutely fell in love with. I desperately need to do a reread. New to town, Patrick is launching a brewery next door to a very specific store. This gorgeous story is lodged in my mind as a warm, golden light.
Nervous Patrick v Take-charge Patrick - god, aren't they all wonderful? For Nervous Patrick, read how it's always gonna be by @reginahalliwell, in which David ran away from Schitt's Creek to New York, where he works as an escort, and Patrick ran away from home to figure himself out. Beautiful characterisation of these two in a different setting, and very, very sexy. Meanwhile, Strike anywhere by Mad_Lori has a take-charge Patrick to die for. Seriously, you might not realise you need firefighterPatrick, but oh, you do.
Highschool/College AU v Workplace AU - for a change I'm actually going to pick one. There are a lot of highschool/college fics I actively avoided reading while I was working on one, but I have read I've Never Liked a Smile as Much as I Like Yours by @hagface, which has Patrick discovering things in his therapist-recommended art course and it is so, so good. Lots of sweetness and queerfeelings.
Slow burn v Insta love - slow burn! And there are soooo many good ones. I feel like there's no way I can't include @blueink3's magnum opus, Favored Nations in this list. It could easily fit into multiple categories, in fact, and maybe the burn isn't as slow as some, but I do. Not. Care. If you haven't read it ... David is a disgraced theatre director with a seed of an idea for a possible comeback, which might all hang on international music superstar Patrick Brewer. It is exquisite.
(had to do this in two posts, because "apparently" I hit some kind of "limit")
Friday Fic Recs: This or That
Farm witch friends, the coven is very excited to bring you something new and fun this Friday! We witches love a good game, so we hope you’ll play along.
Fill out the “this or that” chart (if you want to be fancy and draw on it, that’s great! or you can copy the categories as text, whatever works for you!) with your choices and then list a favorite fic from that category and include a link to it.
Be sure to tag us in your posts so we can see all your answers and tag your friends to participate, too!

[A random human wanders onto Farmer Witch Reader's land - coming across Reader as they rebandage a plant person's arms. A sign dangles around the Tomato's neck reading - "A tomato that bites people's faces off")
"Excuse me? - What is that thing??"
Farmer Witch Reader: They are a tomato that bites people's faces off. Despite their current lack of arms they are surprisingly efficient at it.
"Why don't they bite your face off?"
Farmer Witch Reader: I am his caretaker - same as I care for the other crops in my field.
"That makes sense..."
Farmer Witch Reader: Please excuse me while I grab their food. If you are not here to purchase anything I suggest you leave.
[Reader walks off in the direction of their cabin - Tomato starting to whimper as they leave.]
Tomato: My face itches. Could you scratch it for me?
"..."
[Farmer Witch Reader returns to find Tomato happily munching on something - crimson dripping from his mouth]
Farmer Witch Reader: Tomato.... We've talked about this.
Tomato: Hey- They read the sign. This one was deserved...Why would I ever bite you, Farmer?

Hi! I know exactly the quote you are talking about and I have it around here somewhere. I'll continue searching my pockets, but in the meantime, here are three similar ones available for sharing or cross-stitching:
Tumblr media
The original post is broken, but I got this from @holmesapothecary and here is a link to the post.
Tumblr media
Here is a link to the original post. I found it through @my-nameless-bliss here.
Tumblr media
And here is this one which I found via @mostlyinthemorning here.
Anyway, I'll keep an eye out for the one you asked for and let the witches know if I stumble across it.
This isn’t a fic request but more of a fic quote request?
I remember reading someone say something like: “how beautiful to love two characters so much that you’d want to write them a thousand happy endings”
I butchered it, but do you know the actual quote post? Wanted to send it to a friend
It's such a lovely thought, isn't it? All these versions of happy endings (both literal and figurative) for these characters we love.
We know that we've made similar comments in posts in the past, but we're also pretty sure that we borrowed that idea from someone else. We definitely know that we don't have a clue who it was.
If anyone knows the original version of this quote and who we can attribute it to, the coven would love to find out so we can stitch it on a little pillow to put on by the hearth.

So the general idea with Farmer Witch Reader is a spell gone wrong leads to some of their crops growing into humanoid fruits/veggies - These creatures can regenerate body parts they've lost by being fed plant food or being reburied. So long as their seeds still exist they cannot die and retain all memories they have if their body is completely destroyed/eaten. I have a fic in the works where they give Witch Reader ingredients for breakfast, surprising their favorite farmer with something they haven't had in a while. Meat.
