The Magical Girl TTRPG about fighting despair
Princess: the Hopeful is a tabletop roleplaying game in which players take the role of magical girls acting as the guardians of hope and light in a world of darkness and despair. And before I can really talk about it, I need to give some backstory. Princess: the Hopeful is a fan-made game for Chronicles of Darkness AKA the New World of Darkness. Chronicles of Darkness is a line of TTRPGS in which players take on the roles of monsters hiding amongst humanity. Each game has you play a different kind of monster, so there’s a vampire game, a werewolf game, etc. While each game can be played independently of any other, they are all in the same setting and they all use the same core rules. This is intended to make crossovers easy, but it also means that fans can pretty easily homebrew their own content, up to and including entire games. CoD is a pretty dark setting where the shadows run deep, humans are prey to monsters we don’t understand, and hope is vanishingly rare. So when a group of fans decided to make a magical girl game for the setting, it seemed like a joke. However, the finished project has become one of the most popular fan games and is just as good if not better than many of the official games (cough Beast cough). While the world of Princess: the Hopeful is as grim and bleak as the rest of CoD, you play as the people who refuse to give in to despair and fight to make the world a better place and you are going to dress fantastically to do it.
In the setting of Princess: the Hopeful, the ultimate force of evil is the All-Consuming Darkness. Born of fear, hate, despair, and every other negative aspect of life, the Darkness is less an entity and more a cosmic force of corruption that will not stop until the world is dragged into an eternal hell. When the Darkness first threatened the world, agents of light rose up to stop it. They wielded powerful magic and formed a civilization called the Kingdom which opposed the Darkness. And they won. The Darkness was beaten back and the Kingdom was at peace. This peace made them complacent and they failed to notice the Darkness building a counterattack until it was too late. The Darkness overwhelmed the Kingdom and destroyed many of queens and their courts. Of the 8 surviving courts, 5 were trapped within the Dreamlands, a dimension formed from the dreams and desires of humanity. This prison was perfect as the desires of its prisoners led them to not even realizing they were trapped. They lived in a fantasy of the world at peace, never realizing their predicament. The 3 remaining courts survived by becoming darkened. The corruption of the Darkness is found in them, but they are not its servants and are therefore known as the Twilight Courts. With the courts either trapped or corrupted, the Darkness had free reign over the world and turned it into the grimdark setting of Chronicles of Darkness. That was until 1969, when the first moon landing set off such a powerful surge of wonder and hope worldwide that it pierced the Dreamlands and alerted the imprisoned courts to the truth. The 5 imprisoned courts, the Radiant Courts, destroyed the prison and turned the Dreamlands into their new base of operations. They now face a world where the Darkness has effectively won. This hasn’t stopped the Radiant Courts and they have now resumed the war with the Darkness. Whether this war is an ultimately futile struggle or if the Radiant Courts do have a chance at actually turning things around is up to the players.
The player characters of PtH are the Nobility. Nobles, also called Princesses/Princes or the Hopeful, start out as people who remain good and hopeful despite living in a darkened world. The potential to become a Noble will remain as long as that person remains good, but it takes a major event to unlock it. This event must be something life-changing and can happen at any time in someone’s life, though it usually happens during, and as a result of, puberty. The person will go through the Blossoming and awaken the power of a Noble. While the game focuses on magical girl tropes, anyone of any gender and sex can become a Noble. Nobles gain a number of powers, including the ability to perform magic. However, most of their powers require them to go through the classic magical girl transformation sequence. After transforming, a Noble’s body will change to represent their idealized self and they will be wearing clothes and tools called Regalia. The idealized self can be quite different from your normal appearance and the game explicitly states that a transgender noble’s transformed appearance will match their gender identity. The transformed state also acts as a magical disguise. Even if a Noble looks identical pre- and post- transformation, you won’t be able to recognize the two forms as the same person unless the Noble tells you. A noble can only stay transformed temporarily before needing to change back and rest. Nobles get access to magic spells, most of which can only be used while transformed. Casting spells requires spending wisps, which are gained by inspiring happiness and goodness in others. In both forms, Nobles have a 6th sense which detects dark acts and thoughts. If someone is depressed or does something evil, every Noble in range will know about it. Given the state of the world, this 6th sense can become overwhelming and many Nobles will take trips to the Dreamlands to get some relief for a while. Nobles can also grant people some of their powers. These people are known as Sworn and many Nobles will grant powers to people they trust as allies or people they love as protection. Nobles are also often aided by Shikigami, inhabitants of the Drealands who inhabit small animals or toys to enter the real world and who act as mentors and advisors. Shikigami are good at tracking down potential Nobles and helping them Blossom, making them the magical girl mascot trope.
Fighting the Darkness is not just about battling monsters. While every Noble will eventually have to do battle with soul-sucking horrors from the netherrealms, most of the fight isn’t about violence. Anything that causes negativity is a tool of the darkness and you can’t exactly kick poverty or discrimination in the face. However, just as any negative emotion or cruel act empowers the Darkness, any act of kindness or that sparks joy fights it. Each Noble has a particular specialty called their Calling that determines how they inspire hope and joy the best. The callings are:
Champions: the defenders of the weak. Champions are classic heroes who fight for justice and protect others. They gain wisps by standing up for others. Champions are the most combat-oriented of the Callings and are typically the ones who do the fighting when creatures of Darkness are about. Example Champions include a knight who charges out to face the monsters, an activist pushing to end poverty, the manager of a shelter for the homeless, or the kid who stands up to bullies.
Graces: the messengers of hope. Graces prefer to guide others to the light through communication and support. Graces are skilled at social interaction and gain magic that lets them power up other people. They gain wisps by giving support and advice. Example Graces include a motivational speaker whose speeches are charmed with magic, a therapist who encourages patients to improve themselves, the person who always gives good advice, and the friend who is always ready to offer a shoulder to lean on.
Menders: the healers of the wounded. Menders aid people who are suffering, be it physically, mentally, or supernaturally. Menders will give aid to anyone they can and will not engage in violence, except against creatures of Darkness. Their magic focuses on healing and supporting others. They gain wisps by helping people. Example Menders include a first responder for disasters, an emergency room doctor who will stop at nothing to heal patients, a counselor who helps people fight depression, and a hero who helps people reject the corruption of Darkness.
Seekers: the scholars of the light. Seekers are defined by their curiosity and devotion to uncovering the truth. Lies and ignorance are tools of the Darkness and Seekers are here to uncover the truth. Their magic focuses on stealth and information gathering. They gain wisps by learning new things. Example Seekers include a bookworm who spends all their free time in the library, a spy who gathers intel on the Darkness’ activities, an archeologist who seeks out ancient artifacts of the Nobility, and a scientist who tries to reconcile the supernatural world with the scientific one.
Troubadours: the muses of joy. Troubadours seek to inspire wonder and joy in other people through their works. Natural artists and storytellers, troubadours gain wisps by inspiring others. Their magic focuses on illusions and supporting others. Example Troubadours include a party animal who always has a story to tell, a children’s book author whose work always includes positive morals, a graffiti artist who leaves messages of hope around town, an inspiring speaker who encourages people to fight the Darkness, and a jokester who can always make people laugh.
Noble society is centered around the courts. Each court is an alliance of like-minded Nobles led by a queen. Queens are immensely powerful and ancient Nobles who date back to before the imprisonment in the Dreamlands. There are 5 Radiant Courts and 3 Twilight Courts. A Noble’s Calling is innate to them and cannot be chanced, but membership in a court is optional and switching between them is accepted (by the Radiants anyway). Some people opt to remain courtless. Each court has a signature emotion or two that powers their unique magic. The Radiant Courts are:
The Court of Clubs practices a pseudo-Taoist philosophy of finding the balance where you can express your truest self while remaining in balance with the world. Accepting change and avoiding violence are part of this harmony. Don’t assume this means Clubs are helpless against attack. They aren’t allowed to start a fight, but they are allowed to finish it. Harmony with nature is also an important part of their beliefs and many Clubs prefer to live in the natural world and protect nature from the Darkness. Their emotions are harmony and tranquility.
The Court of Diamonds embraces enlightenment ideals and believes in the power of logic and reason to improve the world. They embrace modern science and technology and reject ignorance and misinformation as tools of the Darkness. Key among their teachings is that knowledge is to be shared freely with everyone, nor hoarded away or locked behind paywalls. They also reject the divide between the arts and sciences, seeing both as equally important. Diamonds tend to be excellent planners and strategists. Their emotions are curiosity and wonder.
The Court of Hearts is the one that takes the title of Nobility most seriously. They believe that the key to a better world is building and improving social institutions with them as the strong leaders. While Hearts view themselves as natural leaders, they also believe that authority is not owed, it is earned through the respect of others. They practice noblesse oblige, the philosophy that those in charge have a duty to improve the lives of their subjects and to be a wise and fair leader. The Hearts also take tradition seriously, believing that you must preserve the traditions that work and discard or improve those who do not. Their emotions are trust and duty.
The Court of Spades encourages creativity, going outside norms, and humor. Their skill is in questioning traditions and social institutions to find out what is valuable and what isn’t. Those institutions that cause harm are tools of the Darkness and should be dismantled. Above all, everyone needs some laughter in their life and so the Spades are great pranksters and jokesters. Many other courts stereotype the Spades as ineffective and annoying pranksters, but their skill at thinking outside the box can make them highly effective at finding new and unorthodox solutions to problems. Their emotion is humor.
The Court of Swords believes in following your heart and doing everything with burning passion. Love is the most important emotion to them, and not just romantic love but all kinds. They follow a morality code that emphasizes that harming someone is always wrong and that you should strive to broaden your horizons and embrace your passions. Many Swords are classic heroes, striving out for the sake of goodness and willing to do anything to protect their loved ones. The Swords also trust their members to be able to act autonomously, though of course if you can work with others, you should at least consider it. Their emotion is love.
While the Radiant Courts have only been active in the real world since 1969, the Twilight Courts have been active since the fall of the Kingdom. In order to survive the Darkness, they had to become darkened. While each Twilight Court is affected by the Darkness, they are still its enemies and do not serve it. Because they have been active for so much longer, the Twilight Courts have much greater populations than the Radiant Courts. If the Radiant Courts are the classic magical girls, the Twilight Courts are the dark magical girls.
The Court of Tears survived the coming of the Darkness by fleeing into it. The Queen of Tears moved her city, Alhambra, into the Dark World and converted it into a hollow sphere, with the city on the inside. The city is lit by lamps that keep the Darkness out, but they are fueled by hope. Nobles of Tears are tasked with stealing hope from the real world to keep the lamps burning. Key to their beliefs is that the Darkness has already won and all they can do is keep their loved ones safe in Alhambra. Thus, they will do whatever they can to keep the lamps burning. Their mission is ultimately futile as they are helping the Darkness win and once it does, nothing will keep Alhambra safe. The Queen of Tears constantly weeps over the sacrifices she made and it is implied that if she ever realizes the self-defeating nature of her mission, she will fully fall into despair and become an agent of the Darkness. Their signature emotions are depression and resolve.
The Court of Storms barely functions as a court anymore as their queen is not capable of leading anymore. To survive the Darkness, the Queen of Storms transformed herself into a living storm that rages within the Dark World, destroying all she touches. Nobles of Storms lash out against the Darkness in rage. They hate the Darkness and the state of the world and that hate leads them to do whatever they can to destroy it no matter who and what gets in the way. They believe that the world is already hopelessly corrupted and the only way out is to turn it to ashes and hope that whatever’s left is worth saving. Storms Nobles believe that when they die, their souls will merge with the storm that is the Queen and make it a bit bigger. Once enough of them die the Queen will grow enough to destroy the Darkness and rip the world apart. If there’s something left to rebuild after, that’s a nice bonus. Their emotions are rage and hate.
The Court of Mirrors isn’t a court in any sense of the word. The Queen of Mirrors fled when the Darkness came. SInce then, she has appeared to newly-Blossomed Nobles and informed them that they are the True Heir to the Kingdom and destined to be the one who defeats the Darkness and saves the world. Given how many people she does this to, her approach seems to be that if she tries enough times, eventually she’ll find the right person. Nobles of Mirrors become utterly convinced that they are the heroes of the story. They are vain, narcissistic solipsists convinced the world revolves around them. Most other Nobles view the Mirrors as obnoxious brats, but a narcissist with magic powers can prove to be a formidable threat. The Mirrors are incapable of working together and tend to fight each other when they meet. There can only be one True Heir after all. Their emotions are selfishness and solipsism.
The Darkness is a subtle and insidious force that operates wherever there is violence, hate, or misery. Places of sadness or where atrocities have been committed become tainted areas, where the influence of the Darkness is more pronounced. Tainted areas are more prone to violence, depression, and bigotry. The people who spend time there are also more likely to become Darkened. A Darkened person has the influence of the Darkness influencing their mind and body. It changes their sense of morality to encourage them to engage in immoral acts. Unlike other creatures of the Darkness, Darkened are redeemable. They can resist their malevolent urges and strive to be a good person. Nobles are charged with helping Darkened redeem themselves and can use magic to help purify their corruption. Darkened who are not redeemed turn into one of two types of monsters. The most common result is a Darkspawn. When a Darkened fully gives into the Darkness, they will die and their body (or part of it) will revive as a twisted monster. Darkspawn have no real intelligence, but there are an incredible variety of them and they are very dangerous. When a Darkened uses the Darkness to corrupt their minds rather than warp their bodies, they will become a Mnemosyne. These monsters still look human and remember their past lives. They are also highly intelligent, allowing them to command Darkspawn and scheme to spread the Darkness and corrupt other people. Another dark creature is a Cataphract, who are born from people who die in despair (often through suicide). They retain the memories of their human lives and will attempt to return to them, but are only capable of being twisted parodies of humanity. Probably the most feared creatures of Darkness are the Dethroned, Nobles who lost hope and turned to the Darkness. Dethroned usually spend their time wallowing in their own misery, only occasionally roused into action by other dark creatures. An active Dethroned is an enormous threat and even other dark creatures fear them. Even killing a Dethroned won’t save them as they will simply be reborn. There are only two ways to destroy one: utterly destroying their soul at the cost of your own, and taking their misery onto yourself and working through it, allowing the Dethroned to feel hope again before dying and being reincarnated.
There are a few versions of the game, which can be downloaded here, along with supplements and fan content. There is a Discord server also linked on that page. You will need the Chronicles of Darkness core rules to play.

Hii, so I never had any interest in the dark romance genre until reading unravel. You’ve completely converted me. I’ve never read a fic so fantastic and evocative. I was wondering did any dark romance or erotica books inspire it ? I’m just so blown away by your writing
Omg!! 🥹 I'm so happy to have helped bring you into a new genre!
Gah that's such a tough question to answer really because I can never turn off my "writer brain" so I'm horribly picky about books. I actually barely read for a really long time! There are a few writers I idolize, specifically Erin Morgenstern for her gorgeous and evocative prose as well as Jacqueline Carey for her gorgeous descriptions and lush emotions, but I honestly can't say I read that much dark romance specifically these days. In my teen years, I read a bit of Anne Rice and a lot of Sherrilyn Kenyon, specifically her Dark Hunter series.
In terms of character exploration and general vibes, Unravel draws a lot from stories like Beauty and the Beast, Phantom of the Opera, Labyrinth, Heathers (the musical), and probably a hint of Jane Eyre/Jane Austen/Bridgerton in the "depressed yearning" category. Hikari herself is very inspired by shoujo manga heroines (think Tohru from Fruits Basket, Usagi from Sailor Moon, Ahiru from Princess Tutu) as well as Final Fantasy heroines like Rinoa Heartilly and Yuna.
In the end, any creative is just an amalgamation of the things they've loved throughout their life 😅 and their work reflects it! I've been lucky enough to experience higher education focused on creative writing, as well as written with some amazingly talented writing partners through my tumblr roleplay days in the Final Fantasy community as well as sharing writing through beta readers and critique groups. Thank you so much though!! I'm so happy you like my writing ❤️ and thank you for reading Unravel!!

This follows Harry Potter, Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger’s years throughout Hogwarts and defeating Lord Voldemort (or He Who Shall Not Be Named).
Though this also follows the story of a girl named Catalina Thorne and how much trauma she goes through. She is carrying a lot of weight by keeping a secret of information. She is possibly dating the worst person that she could by choosing Draco Malfoy. Though she loves him dearly and feels happy around him, she has to lie to him and his family every day. She doesn’t always feel comfortable around her father since he’s a death eater and may have heard of her brother. Will she ever tell Draco the truth? Find out.

7. Please make sure you are literate. Please be able to do at least 3 lines of text. I would prefer you to not use *…* to rp but I won’t scold you if you do it.

9. Lgbtqia+ characters are allowed along with ships.
10. Sexual themes are allowed as long as you take it to personal chats and as long as the other person consents to it.

To Those on the Outside
Ever felt like you were not like the rest? Ever been called a freak, or a weirdo, a monster, or maybe just always felt like you never had anywhere that you truly belonged? For far too long those on the outside have had nowhere to go and have had to learn to fend for themselves. Have grown up with few that truly understand or accept them. We at Kingsport College believe that it is time for that to change.
We welcome all who are open minded to the idea that the world is ever evolving and that the best path is one of understanding and co-existence. Between witches, wizards, inhumans, mutants, mystics, demi gods, vampires, werewolves, humans and more. We call you to our halls to not only co-exist but to also learn trades that will help you be as successful as can be. We welcome you to apply today for the upcoming semester. Students and Faculty are welcome to apply!

Fear Myth: The Primordial Beasts
"Beasts: the Primordial"  is a roleplaying game belonging to the series known as "Chronicles of Darkness" (a series of RPG that also includes works such as Vampire: The Requiem or Changeling: the Lost). This series of RPGs proposes to reinvent the different fantastical characters, tropes and settings, from horror to gothic to urban fantasy - vampires, werewolves, ghosts, etc... Beasts: the Primordial deals with the concept of monsters in general.
Why am I including it in the "Fear Myth" series? That's quite simple.
The basis of the game is that "monsters", aka the predators of humanities, are actually regular humans or appear as so. "Monsters are among us", truly. A monster, also called a Beast, is born when a human being finds his or her soul replaced by what is called a "Horror". Horrors at the raw manifestations of humanity's most primal fears and terrors, and they need to be unleashed as monstrous forms to "feed" on specific feelings of humanity, mostly fear. To do so, the Beasts unleash their Horrors in the "Dreaming", the world of dream where all humand go when they sleep. And the feding of these Horrors is what causes the nightmares of humanity.
But one has to be careful to not be overhwlemed by the Horror. Else, they can find their humanity burned away and be entirely consume by the monster, becoming one forever.
Due to this particular setting, the game offers a classification of humanity's primal fears. The Beasts are organized in "families", as in groups of monsters who all share a same basic primal fear, the "horror" they represent, each an unconscious terror shared by most of humanity and dating back to the first times of our species on Earth.
In the basic, core game, there are five families of monsters and thus five primordial nightmares.
1) The Anakim
These monsters manifest the fear of raw and brutal power, the fear of an unstoppable force you can't escape from, the fear of being powerless and dominated, the terror of hopelesness. They are harsh brutes of Beasts, with a focus on physical strength and who enjoy crushing their opponents. (Note however that sometimes these Beasts crush by other ways, such as with an overwhelming and superior intellect, or with a crushing and smothering presence). The whole point of their existence is to make their prey despair : they can destroy everything you will try to hide in, they can resist all of your attacks, they are too smart to be outwitted, you can just run away, flee forever. As a downside, the flaw of these beings is that they are often too prideful and arrogant, looking down on their ennemies.
Their primary manifestation is as the Giants of legends and the Ogres of folklore: they are the Greek cyclops and Titans, the Nordic trolls, the biblical Behemoths.... but they can also embody overwhelming forces of nature, or even the "reptilian monsters from another age" (yep, you guessed it, dinosaur time!)
As mentionned previously, the Anakim doesn't have to really be taller or stronger than their victims - they just need to be... "bigger" in a way that can be figurative. For exemple they are also how little kids can perceive the principal when they are sent to his office, a towering figure of punishment and authority - Anakim tend to fill roles linked to the idea of the judge, or the Divine punisher, figures of absolute and crushing authority. They can be for exemple the disappointment and wrath of a parent, or the humiliation and control a boss may have over an employee.
2) The Eshmaki
These monsters are technically what could call the "unknown horror".
They are the monsters dwelling in the dark and lurking in the night, that reside and live in lightless area, move with shadows. They are the monster under the bed or in the closet, these boogeymen of your childhood that came out when you were tucked to bed - but they are also the thief that enters in your home at night to rob you, or the stranger that will stab your in a dark city alley...
Note however that they are not always associated with the darkness, some rather dweel in isolated places and rely on the fear of not exactly being "alone". You feel like you're being watched when you're in the woods, or as you walk on the beach you realize there is another set of footprints following you despite no one else being there... They are the fear of being hunted by something you cannot see, and indeed the Eshmaki are often invisible - only being perceived by fragments (glowing eyes in the dark, an animal stentch, a roaring or a whisper in the dark, the sound of claws scratching a surface...). When they actually manifest on a physical form, they usually are associated with feline predators, from regular animals like panthers to mythical beasts like manticores. Stealthy, but deadly.
And that's how the Eshmaki act. They stalk and follow their prey, subtle and sneaky, before striking at the exact moment with vicious brutality and precision, shredding and dismembering without remorse.
Hunters, killers and stalkers, other mythological sources for them are indicated to be Grendel (a monster coming out at night when too much noise is made), the Japanese Baku (dream-eating monsters with a grotesque appearance) and witches and hags of ancient folklore (child-eaters from the woods).
3) The Makara
This family of monsters is born from the fear of drowning. Originally, it was in a literal sense - they were the fear of water and the sea, of the deep and the depths. They manifested as all the sea monsters you can think of, from the scariests (Krakens, Leviathans, giant sharks and octopuses) to the most seducing and treacherous (sirens, mermaids, kelpies, the luring fishes of the abyss...) passing by embodiment of natural dangers like typhoons or whirlpools. They were the all-devouring sea, the ocean that swallowed alive the sailors, creatures with mouths much too big and with too many teeth.
But in modern days, the fear of drowning has opened itself to more figurative ways. You can drown simply by not being able to escape. You can drown by being in a room deprived of all air. Or you can drown in an excess of knowledge, or by being overwhelemed by too many circumstances. They feed on all kind of suffocation and claustrophobia.
4) The Namtaru
These Beasts are the embodiment of revulsion, whose mere appearance can be both disgusting and terrifying. Just one look, just one face is enough to remove bravery, courage or even sanity from the heart of man. Strongly associated with the eye and the sight (they can see in the dark and not be blinded), they are inspired by the Gorgons, whose ugliness turned to stone anyone who saw them, or by the Basilik (which killed in one look). These monsters are often associated with the "creepy-crawlies" people are so disgusted and terrified of: snakes and bats, rats and worms, insects of all sizes and kinds. Their association with disgust and vermin also gives them powers and control over the spreading of diseases and the poisoning of the area, turning them into pestilent beings (for exemple, the Basilik was said to poison the waters and the air with its mere presence ; also think of hthe poisonous wyvern or hydra).
They are disfigurement, they are faces melting, they are gory and disgusting surgical operations, or they can throw on you the shunning and the reject and the hatred the "ugly" and "repulsive" usually feel. These creatures do not kill you, but tend to do weirder and stranger actions - like forcing you to kiss them, drinking a bit of your blood, or leaving you with stings that will cause an eternal rash. Other mythological sources are mentionned to be: the Kishi (Angola monsters appearing as seducing people, but with an ugly hyena face behind their head), the Futakushi-Onna (a Japanese beautiful woman who hides in her hair a disgust and perpetually hungry mouth), and the shape-shifting and corpse-eating Arabic ghûl.
5) Ugallu
These sky-monsters embody the fear of being exposed, with no cover, of being a prey easy to snatch away. They are, as a result, monsters of the air and sky, with wings and claws, with senses extremely keen and sharp, a speed as fast as lightning and a certain control and influence over the weathr (they are able to conjure lightning or invoke winds, cause storms).
They are mostly associated with bird monsters or bird-like monsters, like the Rocs, the Phoenix, the Griffins, the Harpies, but their main symbol and representant is actually the Dragon.
However, in modern days the definition of "exposure" has extended and the Ugallu are more than just bird-monsters. They are for exemple the fear of having your true identity exposed to the world - with their piercing gaze (similar to the one of birds of prey like eagles or hawks), they can pierce through your face, your illusions and your lies to see the truth. They are the fear of finding yourself unprepared, with not the right tools or not enough food for a given situation, a lack of essential supplies (or even just finding yourself in front of a test you haven't prepared for, it is an Ugallu nightmare). Or they are the fear of being naked - this is also a common fear of exposure (finding yourself at shcool or at work without clothes), and there is no place to hide, no privacy, no cover, everyone is watching.
And the Ugallu can watch all. And waiting, at the top of towers, buildings, mountains or clouds, they look and judge at the world, patiently, taking all the time they need to strike their victim at the perfect moment.
Crossed with these "families", which are basically the "nature" or "essence" of Beasts, you find the "Hungers". Each of the Horror is driven by a peculiar "Hunger", a strong desire that basically dictates their behavior and hunting tactics. These Hungers are the motivations and goals of each monster, and they  are also based on specific human fears. (Oh yes and each Hunger is supposed to "teach a lesson" to human beings, because that's the nature of monsters, to act as warnings and symbols).
A)  The Ravages
The Hunger for ruin. These Beasts basically act like natural disasters, "feeding" by destroying things (especially those people care about or take for granted). They are the fury of nature but also its destroyer : they don't just burn the fields, they also salt the earth, because the more people care or value something, the more their destruction will feed the Beast. They pollute the world as much as they can crush your hopes. Their "lesson" (and the fear they incarnate) is how fragile human life is. Their "moral" is that you cannot prevent a natural disaster, but you can endure it and survive it. They drink the tears of those that see the world crumble around them.
B) The Nemeses
The Hunger for punishment. They are the fear of justice - for they punish people who committed infractions to some form of rules - whether it is social, religious, moral rule... Any kind of transgression can be the source of their fury. They can punish abusers and bullies, or they can simply protect a specific place ; they can punish secret actions and crimes long forgotten, or make sure you will meet your punishment for more abstract crimes like hypocrisy or infidelity. And their "punishment" can vary from stalking and driving paranoid to public humiliation, passing of course by violence. Their "lesson"? To live in a society, you need to follow the rules. And if you don't follow the rules, consequences will follow.
Interestingly, the Nemeses only feed when the person understands tat they are being punished, and know for what. If a Nemesis victim doesn't understand he is punished, or doesn't know why she is punished, the monster won't be able to feed. However, their victim does not need to feel any guilt or remorse about said "crime", they just need to know that it is the reason why they are being punished/considered a transgression.
C) The Predators.
The Hunger for prey. They are basically the fear of being hunted down, and teach humans about mortality and danger. They basically take the form of a physical hunt - searching and tracking down their victims, running after them, physically overpowering , but they neer kill their victim. They merely "harm" them in a way or another - they can break a specific limb or take some blood from their victim, or steal something as a trophy or break something of value to them. Because their real "feeding" comes from the fear of being caugth, and the shock of realizing that there are no escape and that you are trapped.
Note however that the Predators do not just "hunt" regularly their prey. They have all sorts of traps, tricks and baits - the hunt can be physical, social or psychological. Bounty hunters and assassins are part of the Predators, as much as harassers and investigators - as long as there is a search and a tracking fro something or someone, it can be a Predator. But all share the compulsion to get trophies at the end of their "hunt".
D) The Collectors
The Hunger for a hoard. These Beasts teach people that nothing can last forever and force them to chose what they truly love - for the Collectors take things away from mortals, keeping them as trophies and treasures, accumulating them into their personal hoard hidden away from the rest of the world. It is the hoard of the dragon, or the treasure in the monster's lair. Their motivations are numerous - some collect only the most beautiful things, other search the most valuable things around or mementos from old battles and feats - and that's without mentionning obsessive and very specific collections, from books to teeth. None obtained regularly, all stolen or taken away from someone, for the Collectors are nothing more than stealers. What they feed on is the shock people feel when they realize the object they owned or cared for is gone, and the fear they will feel of being robbed or having things taken away from them.
E) Tyrants
The Hunger for power. Their lesson is to teach mortals about learning their limits, and realizing that there are things you can't accomplish. And to do that, they merely crush mortals under their utter domination, making them feel hopelessness in front of superiority - for THEY ARE the fear of superiority. Their kick is to make people feel small and helpless, from physically defeating them to making them feel like they are forever watched or surrounded by a malevolent force. They can make mighty warriors feel like mere children. In the old days they used to be worshipped as gods, and were the "evil overlords" of legends, but today they often manifest as heads of industries humiliating their workers or arrogant corporate bosses. In general, they are beings of hierarchy - social hierarchy, political hierarchy, or a hierarchy based on strength, intellect, any kind of hierarchy is good, as long as the Beast makes it prey feel that they are in an inferior position in said hierarchy, a position that allows those above a complete domination over them.
A final thing to mention is that the RPG offers tips and rules to create the "Lair" of the Monster. The Lair of the Beast is the personal home and hunting ground of the Horror in the Dreaming world, and thus the creation of the Lair is actually the creation of a landscape of fear, or of a nightmare area.
To create the Lair, the RPG mentions both "minor traits" (aka aesthetic traits or "decorations" so to speak) and major traits (the basic architecture and structure of the lair).
Minor traits:
# Blazing Light. A light too intense, too harsh and too powerful, that makes it impossible or painful to see. Exemple the light of a burning area, or of an enormous sun in the desrt.
# Blizzard. The whirling winds carry clouds of crystal, snow or dust that prevent one from seeng things clearly. Volcanic ashes and sandstorms are also included in it.
# Cramped. An uncomfortable lair that can bring claustrophobia. Narrow passageways, small caves, crawlspaces...
# Crosswinds. Violent and powerful winds that prevent people from, for exemple, keeping their stability or climbing.
# Currents. Forces that push you along a certain road or direction, whether it is strong winds, liquid currents, moving floors or even invisible forces.
# Downpour. Water, blood or stranger liquids keeping pouring into the Lair, soaking everything, lashing out at unexposed characters like a violent rain.
# Echoes - it is unable to move silently because every sound echoes through the lair.
# Extreme cold.
# Extreme heat.
# Flooded (with water or other materials like slime, mud or gore).
# Fog.
# Jagged : broken ground that is a trip hazard and can cause serious falls. Strewn boulders and animal warrens, angle-height roots and sharp rocks.
# Maze: a disorienting and confusing landscape, with many twists and turns and no indications or specific landmarks. Literal labyrinth, systems of caves, deep forests or marshes with shifting terrain.
# Poor light: Dim or flickering lights.
# Sealed exits: Doors are locked, windows can't break, alleys are gated and bridges are broken. You can see freedom, but you can't reach it.
# Slick : the Lair is slick, whether by mud, ice, oil, grease...
# Steam: hot and scalding steam.
# Stench: a foul smell that causes nausea and makes it hard to breathe.
# Sting: the Lair causes an irritation and itches, whether by plant toxins, chemical products, stinging insects, the touch of sea creatures
# Swarms : swarms of vermin, clouds of insects, carpets of bugs.
# Thin Air: Like at the top of a mountain, it is getting harder to breathe.
# Thunderous: Painfully loud noises, whether they are thunder, roars or sounds of industrial sites.
# Undergrowth: a dense undergrowth that hides monsters and entangles preys.
# Unstable: the solid ground isn't. The ice cracks, the bridge riples, the ship deck tilts, the earth shakes.
Major traits:
# Burning: the Lair is engulfed in Flames and perpetually burning.
# Corrosive : lakes of acid, corrosive atmosphere, or supernatural curses making the flesh turns to salt or stone. Here, the matter degrades.
# Crushing: the Lair has cave-ins, strangling vines, the pressure of an ocean trench...
# Darkness: pitch-black and without sources of light.
# Decayed: a decayed and crumbling structure.
# Diseased: Pestilence and sick beings.
# Disruption: The Lair prevents the working of human tools. It goes from electronical devices being unable to work to all fire being snuffed out, passing by complex machines like cars being unable to move or start properly.
# Earthquake.
# Engulfing: it can go from natural things, like quicksands or thick mud, to supernatural "engulfings", like human-sized carnivorous plants.
# Electrified: from lightning strikes and bio-electrical stings to live rails and electrified fences. Electric hazards everywhere.
# Exposed: no safety and no cover, hiding places being either inexistent or extremely easy to reach through.
# Heavy: gravity is stronger than usual, making you feel heavy and tired.
# Hurricanes.
# Mirages : from heat-caused mirages to supernatural illusions.
# Noxious and toxic gazes.
# Suffocating: a lack of oxygen, from impossibly tall mountains, impossibly deep caves, or simply being underwater.
# Razored: the surfaces are deadly weapons. The Lair is filled with blade and thorns, broken glass and barbed wire.
# Rotting : in this Lair, mold blooms, food spoils and untreated wounds fester.
# Toxic: the Lair has something poisonous in it, from a food or liquid, to the bite or sting of animals, to the mere sheen of metallic surfaces.
# Viscous: movement is made difficult. Deep snow or deep mud, swamps and other "adhesive coats" to the land.

I still love Harry Potter - but not JKR
Warning: This gets wordy. I really just rambled and let my thoughts take me where they will. And these are only my personal rambles - they aren’t meant to be a deep political statement or super eloquent or anything. They’ll be messy and meandering and mainly for my own benefit.  I just...needed to think. And remember. And feel.  You have been warned.
JKR has been in the news a lot lately. And not in a good way. To put it bluntly, she’s basically revealed herself as a TERF and is rightly being called out.  It hurts, because Harry Potter made a large impact on my life. But the author has shown herself to be flawed and I had put her on a pedestal for years of my life. I admired her “rags-to-riches” (sorta) story. Her success. Her talent with writing. I wanted to be her in some ways. She was living my life’s dream!
And now she is making hurtful remarks about a marginalized group of people who have done nothing except demand equality and recognition.
I first heard about the books through my mom. She was a substitute teacher at the time, and in the class she was covering, the teacher had just started reading The Sorceror’s Stone. Mom went out and got a copy, read it, and loaned it to me. She also griped about how no one knew how to pronounce the name “Hermione - the kids she was reading to kept ‘correcting’ her with ‘Hermy-own-knee” as the pronunciation. It drove her nuts. I remember bragging to my friends when I figured out what the Mirror of Erised actually said. I was in junior high - eighth grade. I was reading a kids’ book that wasn’t hugely popular yet, and trying to lure people in.  I remember seeing more and more people I knew picking up the books. In high school, when we had free days in band (aka the teacher was sick and the sub didn’t know music), my friends and I would talk Harry Potter.  I was giddy when I got my own copies - hardback copies - of the first three books by saving my money and shopping the second-hand bookstores. It’s not that my parents wouldn’t have gotten them for me, but I wanted to buy them for myself. My original, paperback copy of Sorceror’s Stone was battered and tattered and well-loved.  Mom kept loaning out our copies to people. Sometimes, they didn’t come back. In that, it was like when she would loan out copies of The Lord of The Rings when I was a kid (which is why there are probably 4 or 5 copies of that in my parents’ house today). She knew the books were special. I put up Harry Potter posters. I glommed onto Hermione as a favorite character - a bookish girl who could still stand up for herself and have great friends? It was everything I had wanted for myself when I was eleven and struggled hard to have. So I adored her. And I shipped Harry/Hermione. Still do, but now days, I prefer just having an OT3 of the Golden Trio and an OT3 of the Silver Trio (or Sub Trio or whatever name the fandom uses now).  I sometimes had trouble sleeping and would pop the audiobook of Sorceror’s Stone into my cassette player on those nights. It helped me relax. When the first film came out, my parents and I were there to see it. I was amazed. I remember griping about minor tweaks, like Harry’s eyes (until I read about the contacts issues). Oh, what little I knew of how the books and films would splinter more. But still be fun. Goblet of Fire the book was released 4 days before my 15th birthday. I made the mistake of telling my parents I could hold off on reading my copy until then. After I saw my mom sobbing -for reasons she couldn’t tell me - at the end of the book...I never made that particular error again. When Order of the Phoenix came out, we went to the Barnes and Noble midnight release to get our pre-ordered copies. During the long wait, a guy wandered up and down selling Little Caesar's pizzas. Another guy had visited Wal-Mart, purchased every copy of the book they had, and was selling them for only a couple of bucks over what he’d paid to anyone in line who was desperate for an extra copy. My parents bought one and I spent the rest of the waiting period crouched under a parking lot light, reading, until my parents got the copies we’d actually come for.  I lost sleep reading all of the books as they came out. I was always done within a few days, at most. I just couldn’t put them down. I got T-shirts. Bought dolls/pillows/bedding. Got myself a T-shirt, a poster, and Quidditch Through The Ages and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them when I visited the UK in high school. I saw the latter films at midnight releases with my friends. Half-Blood Prince the book came out during my first summer as a camp counselor. Almost all of us - camper and staff alike - were reading it or talking about it. Spoilers were forbidden but there would still be hushed conversations during bedtime hours or “me-time” after lunch (rest period).  Deathly Hallows - both book and film - came out after my mother passed. I got my copy of the book, quietly, at a Kroger at midnight.
Harry Potter got me heavily into fandom. I was there for The Draco Trilogy and Pawn to Queen. My Immortal and The Shoebox Project. Squickfics that made it onto GodAwfulFanfiction and its successor, Why God Why. LiveJournal communities. Fandom wank. And so much more. Reading updates on MuggleNet and The Leaky Cauldron and watching fanvids. Listening to music uploaded from Draco and the Malfoy and other fanbands. Roleplaying communities that were being hosted on Proboards message boards. Countless Sorting quizzes.  I made sure to visit Universal Studios on my honeymoon with @lechevaliermalfet and want to go back one day, as only Hogsmeade existed when we went. I also remember how grumpy I was that @lechevaliermalfet had resisted my urging to read the books - he read them after they were recommended by an unlikely source. In hindsight, it makes sense. I was a solid fan. The person who recommended the books was not. I celebrated the release of Cursed Child with my family at a day-long celebration in Naperville, IL. I have a T-shirt to commemorate it, and a wand that I made with the help of my niece.  Just this year, @lechevaliermalfet and I did a date night - dinner and the first Potter movie on the big screen.
I’m rambling, I know, but the point is, Harry Potter got me involved. I made online friends and honed writing skills by writing fanfiction. I learned to have a thicker skin because of some of the feedback I got. I made at least one fanvid (I’m reasonably certain it’s been lost to the ether and good riddance). Sure, I participated in other fandoms (especially Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew and Witch Hunter Robin). But this was a fandom I shared with more of my family and friends than any other. And I could even - and did - read it to kids I babysat. Now, I know Harry Potter isn’t perfect. Lord knows, Cursed Child reads like a bad fanfiction, and I have seen those ideas executed in ways that fired up my imagination and emotions more effectively. Repeatedly. Then there’s the issue of worldbuilding. The not-so-great aspects/implications of much of what has come out of Pottermore aside, Harry Potter’s wizarding world has always been a shaky society. Others have touched on this far more eloquently, so I’ll just say that it was interesting that we only had a few token “good” Slytherins - who were still shown to have ambition that overruled their better judgement at times.
I always saw the films as a different interpretation of the same story, so I wouldn’t go nuts over the stuff that was altered, so that stays. They have flaws of their own. Sometimes they exacerbate what is in the books - sometimes not.
I can’t speak to the more recent Fantastic Beasts stuff as I haven’t gotten involved. Maybe eventually. But I never realized that the poor representation in JKR’s world might reflect her worldview more wholly. I honestly figured it was a more innocent ignorance or reluctance to risk upsetting the market at the time. But the more she tweets and posts...the more obvious it is that no, she just really is that biased.  I guess, at this point, I’m going to have to follow the Death of the Author route. I used to live for the engagement Rowling had with fans, and the tidbits she’d dole out. Now, I cringe every time I see one.   For the books themselves, I think I’m going to have to take the Death of the Author approach from now on. Because JKR cannot take away the positive things Harry Potter gave me and other fans. I won’t let her. And I am grateful that there are Potter cast members stepping up to denounce her. I love Harry Potter. JKR can go jump in a lake.

A8 for the ask a reader meme?
A8 - What was your first fandom? Are you still in that fandom now?My first fandom was Harry Potter!
I mean, I was a fan of things prior to that, but my parents were never into ‘fandom’ things themselves so I didn’t have another framework.
But Harry Potter was my first foray into fan theories, forums, roleplaying, fanfiction... all of it started with Potter. I was far too young to be so involved in such things (I was 6 when the books began to be published in the US, and being homeschooled at the time they were immediately in my life in a large way. Between online homeschool groups and JKR’s site my mother and I would talk about it endlessly and explore virtual things about it together) but I can’t say that I regret even a second of it.
And yes! I am still in that fandom. Very much so. Actually, I have a slowly-budding youtube channel where I’m planning to talk in-depth about lots of things but am starting with things about the Fantastic Beasts franchise. I am also a regular speaker at LeakyCon, since 2014 I’ve hosted at least 1 hour of content every year I’ve been able to attend, and I’ve posted my last few years’ notes that I use to run my panels on a sideblog.
I also had a bunch of friends show me that MY FACE IS BEING USED TO ADVERTISE PROGRAMMING APPLICATIONS ON THE OFFICIAL SITE THIS YEAR
Tumblr media
As you can see here, I am at all times a low-key and casual fan. *cough*
My life is wild. This was probably a much longer answer than you were looking for.

As D&D Classes and Races
This is pretty much the result of me binge-watching outsidexbox’s D&D sessions which if you haven’t yet checked out, do it immediately. Trust me you won’t regret it. :)
The context here is that the Reader is the DM, with the characters picking their classes and races and forming several groups. This was quite enjoyable to write so I might add more information in future, if you guys find it interesting as well.
Allen Jones: Barbarian, Half-Orc. His method of picking a character is rather simple: find the biggest, strongest and most intimidating combination he can play as and pick that. The choice is quite a good one and he has a lot of fun with the rage feature as well, but it often ends up with him employing a ‘shoot first, ask questions later’ sort of tactic which puts him at odds with Oliver and Matt. Definitely the type to ask for preferential treatement, but doesn’t do much except whine when he is categorically denied.
Matt Williams: Ranger, Half-Elf. He didn’t really understand the concept at first and initially wanted to play a Half-Orc Barbarian as well until Allen called him an uncreative asshole. After having the classes and races explained to him again he decides to go with Ranger, and at Oliver’s suggestion be a Half-Elf. Allen makes fun of him for picking it at first until he finds out the Ranger can have beast companions at higher levels.
Oliver Kirkland: Druid, Halfling. Since he’s always eager to have everyone together and getting along he jumps at the idea of playing a tabletop rpg (despite not being entirely sure what the term implies). Since he’s rather taken with gardening he decides on his character rather easily and picks the race relatively easy as well thinking it sounds fun. He is often the one that suggests the party look for the most peaceful solution and, just like in real life, often has to mediate Allen’s and Matt’s arguments.
Louis Bonnefoy: Warlock, Tiefling. Originally, he had no interest at all in trying the game but after Oliver convinced him (with the promise of booze) he decided to give it a go. He claims that he doesn’t care what class he plays so at Oliver’s suggestion he goes for the warlock, but picks the race on his own. He generally goes along with whoever proposes the easiest solution to the problem they face, regardless of whether it is moral or immoral.
Viktor Braginsky: Wizard, Human. Much like Louis, he also had to be dragged into doing this by someone else. In this case it was Anya who suggested it would be a great way for the siblings to spent time together and do something fun as well. He generally prefers talking out the problem with their foes, which often clashes with Katya’s playing style leading to some very chaotic sessions.
Zao Wang: Rogue, Elf. He insists on playing a cool and suave character, akin to the roguish elven assassin of Dragon Age: Origins and is quite dedicated to playing his role well. Unfortunately, he is liberal with his stats which causes him to have horrible Dexterity but fantastic Charisma and Constitution. He also wanted to implement the Beilschimdts’ idea of in-game relatives and asked Kuro to have his character related to his but was dissatisfied by the result.
Luciano Vargas: Paladin, Human. He finds the whole concept childish and informs everyone else at the table of his opinions, but still goes through with it. It is mostly because Kuro implied he was so bad at it that even Lutz could beat him at it. He does not seem to understand that the game doesn’t employ a tranditional competitive system of one winner and insists on having the ‘best’ class in the game. He finds the description of Paladin attractive, but falls short on acting the role as the embodiment of justice and righteousness that the class is usually associated with as he prefers to use cunning and deception.
Lutz Beilschmidt: Fighter, Dragonborn. Truth be told, he doesn’t really understand everything that’s going on but is just enthusiastic to be there and play. He is not really interested in the flashy classes that use magic or ones that use stealth since he feels that would be too much of a hassle. However, he is absolutely adamant on having a dragonborn character since he thinks it would be awesome. He also insists on him and Klaus being brothers in game.
Kuro Honda: Rogue, Gnome. He was originally planning on making a tiefling or dragonborn character, but after hearing Zao’s suggestion at having their characters be related he decided to indluge him. Unfortunately for Zao, that meant that his character was now basically a gnome-sized Kuro who excelled in stealth and was very good at predicting plot points and twists. However, he does not inform the others of theories and often manages to exploit them for his own amusement.
Flavio Vargas: Sorcerer, Half-Elf. The large number of classes made it hard for him to pick just one, but he ultimately settled on something magic orientated since he thought it would be cool to play a flashy class. He also wanted to be an elf originally but found it would be too reduntive since Roland already picked one (also it would be too annoying since Roland would insist on the two roleplaying their characters correctly). He definitely tries to charm his way out of conflicts, but is dismayed by his bad luck as his attempts almost never end up being successful. Another one who also tries to ask for preferential treatement and acts quite shocked when he doesn’t receive it.
Klaus Beilschmidt: Wizard, Dragonborn. He had originally planned on being either a gnome or halfling, but Lutz insisted on the two of them roleplaying characters who are brothers so he decided to change races to accomodate him. It does lead to some amusing moments due to the contrast between Klaus’s naturally timid personality and the rather intimidating appearance of a dragonborn.
Roland Edelstein: Bard, Elf. His character is basically a self-insert no matter how you look at it as he decided from the get-go that it had to be an artist and extremely handsome as well. He does get into roleplaying rather quickly though, but many feel that he’s having too much fun playing a haughty elf. He also probably chooses a character name that is pretty much just a variation of his real name (ex. Rolan, Lorand or Orlando).
Julia Héderváry: Monk, Dwarf. Her picks are something of a surprise to both Flavio and Roland, who expected her to go for a Bard or something akin to this. She does prove to be rather adept at playing a monk and takes full advantage of her feats and features as well. She ends up being the unofficial leader of the party, as though Roland insists that he is the boss, it’s quite clear to everyone else that she’s in fact the one that has the most authority in the group.
Katya Braginskya: Warlock, Tiefling. Another one who had no interest in D&D prior to Anya asking her to join in, mentioning that she could find it fun. She did not really care to look through the classes and races to make her choice and just picks at random from the choices presented to her. She does end up quite invested in her character especially when she learns that she can blast her opponents with magic.
Anastasia Arlovskaya: Cleric, Halfling. Definitely the most excited out of her siblings to play the game and does a lot of meticulous reading on classes and races. She finds Cleric to resonate the most with her and is quite happy with playing the group’s healer, though she can be sometimes overzealous in making sure everyone is healed. She was rather taken to the idea of having Viktor’s, Katya’s and her character be siblings in the game as well and was quite shocked to see that they picked different races, despite her outright stating what her race would be. She is appeased somewhat by Katya pointing out that they could be half-siblings or adopted, just like in real life.

February 2, 2020, something happened that changed the world as we know it.
Upon Alex Russo winning the wizard competition and becoming the family wizard, her uncle Kelbo wanted to treat her to a trip around the world. However, as Kelbo cast his spell, a powerful surge rippled through the magic world that disrupted the spell. Rather than letting Alex and Kelbo travel the world the way he intended it to, the spell merged every world in the universe together. Now, with the formation of this new world, everyone must learn to get along and co-exist with one another.

a hundred and seventy-five years after rappaport’s no-fraternization law went into effect, witches and wizards were able to live freely again among the no-majes. with the disbandment came the need of a new way of living for the wizarding community. bam university was established under the ideals of a better integration into the no-maj society for continuing students of magic who wanted to upkeep this harmonious behavior.
a level of secrecy is still needed to remain intact with the communities merging, but the university was created to help such an integration. the five founding members each taking an area of importance to teach their fellow wizards how to be seen without being seen, and how to live a more fulfilling life with a form of balance created in which a witch or wizard could be themselves in a non-magical society. —welcome to bartholomew’s university.

Wylla Manderly (A song of ice and fire) ;  Michael Corner (Harry Potter) ; More PJO/HOO/TOA characters
I’ve started to watch the boys and I am itching to make a group verse or affiliated OCs inspired by this show
HAVE PLAYED:
 Cassie MacMillan (HP next gen OC) ; Darragh O’Connor (HP OC) ; Rania Hamza (HP OC) ; Cassandre Hale (Percy Jackson OC) ; Hector (Percy Jackson OC) ; Apoline Courfeyrac (Les misérables OC) ; Eugenie Bossuet (Les misérables OC) ; Callie of Thessaly (Descendants inspired OC) ;  Juliet Anderson (The 100 OC) ; Rebekah (A maze runner OC) ; Juliet Augustin (Supernatural fandomless OC) ; Mathilde Ashford (Shadohunters OC) ; Lizzie Wright (Fandomless OC) ; Charles King (Fandomless OC) ; Louis Herbert (Fandomless OC) ; A shameless OC ; A red band society OC ; A shannara chronicles OC ; A divergent OC ;
Liam Henstridge (The royals) ; Penny Haywood (Hogwarts Mystery) ; Charlotte Montrose (The gem trilogy) ;  Joel Saxon (The rithmatist) ; Veronica (Sierra Burgess is a loser) ; Jennifer Pierce (Black lightning) ; Tracy Stewart (Teen wolf) ; Theseus Scammander (Fantastic beasts)
Wow that is so many characters (and I probably forgot some). And so many original characters I gave up on.
WILL/WOULD PLAY AGAIN:
My Harry Potter OCs Darragh or Rania. Anyone on the I have played list could be rebooted. For my old OCs I would have to rework on the biographies first though.

Yes, we’re down to the last few days of the Deviant: The Renegades Kickstarter campaign, and backers have been talking full-time with developer Eric Zawadzki about all the options contained in the previews AND in the Stretch Goal projects. It’s been really great seeing folks come up with how popular (and unpopular, for that matter) characters in various media can be replicated in Deviant.
There’s been a ton of them, and it’s just awesome how flexible the character creation section is! Dave Brookshaw’s extensive process and playtesting is really paying off with a system that absolutely shines.
So, c’mon! Check it out while we’re still rolling and if you pledge you’ll be getting those sweet Stretch Goal projects as well as Deviant itself with your pledge!
And while Deviant is the last KS standing right now, our joint Creature Collection KS with Handiwork Games ended over the weekend with a satisfying amount that’s over 400% our funding amount, a great number of backers, and a fantastic 224 pages (we started with 160).
A huge round of thanks and appreciation to Handiwork and Jon and all his team over there! It is really one sweet project they put together – and even before the KS was over they had hired new writers and artists to start on the added sections. Our Creature Collection is in good hand(s) – iwork.
OK, even I think that’s a groaner, but I wrote it and it’s staying in as I gotta move on to the next topic!

Over the weekend, I also attended the SAVE convention in Harrisburg, PA. Not only was I joined by Eddy and Dixie, but surprise guest Neall Raemonn Price showed up! He was able to join us on panels, and we had a lot, I mean A LOT, of discussion of upcoming projects – tons of Scion talk, but also a couple of upcoming and currently secret projects.
SAVE itself was bigger than ever, and Saturday it was packed in the gaming area. Even more interesting to me, was the education and therapy tracks (as opposed to the game design and gaming ones I was in), because these were also packed with folks wanting to discuss and learn about how our hobby can be used to build understanding and help with therapeutic efforts.
What a fantastic place we are now in where we don’t have to only mention those anecdotal stories of roleplaying helping folks in their real lives, we now have real, practicing therapists and educators stepping up with methodologies. Very proud of my friends in the Bodhana Group for being forerunners in this effort!
On a personal gaming level, Friday night at the convention I stepped up and DM’d my long-time D&D world for the first time for adults in about thirty years. I just felt like if we’re publishing so many D&D 5e based game lines, I needed to be able to talk about them with experience, not just from playing a few campaigns.
So I girded my loins, converted an adventure I’d written that was published in White Wolf Magazine #15, and sat down with Eddy, Dixie, Neall, and Jen, Jack, and the Captain, from Bodhana. It was extremely fun, and very satisfying – even if we roleplayed so hard the party never actually got into the dungeon part!
They did however talk themselves into a free room at a very nice inn due to some high charisma dice rolling and simple chicanery, burn up two enemies and part of a pine forest, and team-work the hell out of young Frost Giant.
I’ve received a fair number of requests to continue the game, so that’s a good sign, and I’ll just have to see what I can do. Dunno if I’ve shaken off all the rust from decades of not running a game, but I also hate saying no to people who want to join me in my imaginary world. So….

Last week also saw the release to the public of one of our secret projects: the phone app version of Pugmire! The folks at DTRPG used Pugmire as their first premiere project and worked up an awesome version of the core book, that they then offered as a free download – and I understand that they’ve had over 7,000 of those downloads!
Here’s a direct link: https://phone.drivethrurpg.com/phone-pdf/?affiliate_id=4451
There’s are also some great games from other publishers on there, and we have at least one more project to add – again, one of the things we’ve been doing behind the scenes – you’d be surprised at how many of those are bubbling along right now!
Now for some useful sales info!
First, DTRPG is having their big Halloween Sale on DriveThruRPG and Storytellers Vault starting Wednesday the 16th and running until Halloween. Most of our Chronicles of Darkness PDFs will be on sale on both sites, plus there will be some Halloween Treats (i.e. free PDFs) hidden around the sites.
Here’s a link to a teaser for a Geist 2e game being run by Eric Campbell: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GOzzE8b3Wc
Here’s a link to this very cool Scion teaser announcing the project is being translated and published in Spain by The Hills Press! We think it’s an excellent video, a super teaser, and we just couldn’t be happier to be working with these folks!
Maybe the next line should be “Many Teasers, One Path”… maybe not. Let’s stick with:
Many Worlds, One Path!
BLURBS!

Onyx Path Media!
This Friday’s Onyx Pathcast features last week’s Call-In Show – it was live at the time and undead now, so check out as our trio and some special call-in guests answer chat questions and chat with questions!
We’ve really increased production of content for our Twitch channel in the last week! Every day has new content, every day has a different game, and much of that content is now being transferred to our YouTube channel.
I’m going to link both here in case you’re not following / subscribed to them. www.twitch.tv/theonyxpath & www/youtube.com/user/theonyxpath
It really helps us to have subscribers on our Twitch channel, and you can do so for free and catch premieres as they go up if you have an Amazon Prime account. Just type Twitch Amazon Prime into Google and you’ll be shown how to subscribe for free.
Also on our Twitch channel, we’ve been proceeding well with Character Creation Month, having created characters for Scarred Lands and Deviant: The Renegades. Also tied into those two games, Eric Zawadski has run a two-parter Deviant chronicle which will soon be transferred to YouTube, and Matthew Dawkins ran a very fun Scarred Lands meatgrinder, to show off some of the monsters from the Creature Collection. A different character dies in every scene!
We have so much fun content coming out soon, with this weekend hosting a Trinity Continuum character creation session, so please catch that if you’re at all interested in Trinity!
Remember, if you miss any content on our Twitch channel, some of it finds its way to our YouTube channel here: www.youtube.com/user/theonyxpath Don’t forget though, that some of that content is Twitch exclusive or belongs to the Storytellers running their games, so don’t miss out and remember to follow us!
Meanwhile, our fans keep creating excellent content for us, not limited to:
