How do you feel about men writing for Jenna Ortega?

I feel like I don’t care. In short. I don’t care what your gender is, you���re writing amazing products and I’m eating them up. That’s what matters to me. I don’t like the idea of gatekeeping, and in the words of Chef Gusteau; anyone can cook. And believe me, the men are cooking 🔥🔥🔥

You can’t stop writing, it’s an art, why would you want to? It just brings us back into their full circle of problematic hate. Repressing someone for creating beautiful content isn’t valid whatsoever. Hating on someone without a reason besides “they just ruin everything.” Isn’t a valid reason. If you’re gonna hate on someone, you better have a good reason for it and not generalize the selected target for your hate.

I see this problem where women complain in the fan fiction committee that men over sexualize characters and the hypocrisy could not be more insane. I, a woman, constantly see characters such as the aforementioned Jenna, Wanda Maximoff and Natasha Romanoff being oversexualized CONSISTENTLY by my own community of women. Therefore I don’t see it as a valid reason when every time I look at the x reader tags I see the kinkest shit ever, written by a woman.

Your brain is built to understand when a problem is a real problem. Men wanting to read fanfiction or write it, is not a problem. If you can’t understand that, it’s just a skill issue atp 🤷‍♀️

Ever since one of the writers said that the caitvi fans "might like" something but will most definitely "hate" something else, i've been very cautious about them. cause both of these answers suck so much??? To hate something about a couple is honestly not encourging at all, but the other one being "might like" is not reassuring either?? cause it means there's a 50% chance i might not like it and??? that's such a red flag to me.

If the goal was to make me lower my expectations, it was very effective, the bar is now in hell.

I have to laugh, honestly. And i wince so bad whenever i see people getting excited about a potential sex scene cause i'm over there thinking "but at what cost???". It's jarring to me and i fear the fans will self-combuste if their storyline turns out to be a shit show. Also, they're not even official in the game either??? it's a big leap of faith for a story that we will "hate" and "might like". Please, it's baffling to me 😭😭

Don't get me wrong, i really liked them in season 1, still do like them and i hope i will keep liking them. I'm interested in what they'll do with them this season, but i've heard the warnings and i don't simply "ship" just because there's a chance they'll be "endgame". I want so much better for them, especially Vi. As it is, i actually could not give less of a shit if they are together by the end if their journey is a shit, unsatisfying, angst galore one. Especially if it's at the cost of either/both Vi and Cait's individual journeys and as characters.

💯 agreed with you about fiction. It’s not the problem of the fiction per-say it’s the fact that people cannot separate fact from fiction, but I guess though that comes with reading about real life people in general.

I consume a lot of writing of all different kinds but I’ve always had a soft spot for fan fiction, from years gone by, but I read mostly Jikook at this point, and love being recommended works from people like yourself.

It’s interesting to me that this book has come about due to hatred of a member though,, someone so wonderful being so vilified for a ship of two people who have zero chemistry atp. Jimin doesn’t deserve that, not at all, especially bc Jikook writers mostly value all members. I know writers will take into account what they perceive to be the members personas, for example Hobi is always sunshine, Joon always intelligent, Yoongi pensive but thoughtful, Tae the goofy arty best friend and Jin the handsome charismatic charmer, but every fic I’ve read so far has been respectful of them.

There is only one darker fic I’ve ever read where Tae was the ‘bad guy’, and he was a bad guy, but again, it’s fiction, I read the tags, knew that going in, and in the end he did have some humanity and it was done well. I know though that isn’t him irl. I guess replace the name and you have something akin to Colleen Hoovers most famous book/now movie. That sort of dv. I do like mild dark romance, i think it can draw us in and takes a hold on us, twilight for example or fifty shades are the same ilk but in a way that it’s softened for public consumption, it edges darkness and allows readers to touch the surface of that world.

I’m rambling but all this to say that fiction is important and it allows us escapism, just like television or movies. It’s an important medium but people reading ff need to take that into account, that it’s fiction.

And I've been into fanfiction since Xena (I'm fucking old okay 😂😂😂😂) so like you, I've got a soft spot for it.

And I'll admit, wattpad stories tend to use the members as villains more as opposed to what I've seen on a03. And truthfully, there's bad writers in every ship, the Jikook tag included. But...when it comes to Jikook stories, at least mainly on a03, they're all close friends, and Tae and Jimin usually have an extremely close friendship. Authors like AnnieV and ChimmyxKookies always have Vmin as precious platonic soulmates. And even if they dated another member before they got together, there was nothing horrible about the person. It's usually an amicable break.

This need they have to take someone as beautiful and loving as Jimin and turn him into a monster for monetary gain baffles me. I guess I'm giving people too much credit to hope that they could separate fantasy from reality, but apparently that's asking for too much.

the ariana grande-ification of anne boleyn in fanart is truly something. and as an olive skinned white woman, i don’t think white tudor fans know what olive skin looks like. also i think there is a frankly bizarre relationship certain tudor fans have with race (ab as an Other™️ because she was supposedly swarthy, trends surrounding coa being fair and spanish, jane seymour being ‘so fair that one would call her rather pale than otherwise’).

i truly do not understand the appeal of characterising female historical figures (largely royal, aristocratic) as powerless victims — with no thought to their complicity in an inherently unjust institution. catherine of aragon (as one example) was immensely privileged to the detriment of the majority of people: she believed in this superiority as morally just and fought for it. remembering what her queenship meant should colour how we talk about her: lauding her as brave for fighting for her status can and should coexist with acknowledging what she was ultimately fighting for.

i myself am guilty of this, but we absolutely need more content about non-courtiers (and content in general that is active and honest about acknowledging the fundamental value of those outside of the aristocratic sphere). wolf hall came close but veers into trying to have it both ways; ‘she [Mantel] wants to relish the bejewelled surfaces, the highly wrought fabrics, the flashing beauties of the Henrician age, while also having a go at the people and the institutions which enabled that agglomeration of riches. The aesthetic delight and the political outrage are on a collision course’. becoming elizabeth’s take on kett’s rebellion was hateful. one of the best jobs i ever had was transcribing local court records for an archive, and getting to meet dozens and dozens of men and women, and hear them talk about their lives.

i would be remiss if i didn’t plead katherine howard’s case yet again. she’s such a force of personality — charming and delightful and ‘fired with ambition’, when i think her ability to be as successful as she was as queen, given her lack of experience and the brevity of her reign, is nothing short of remarkable. i think people are genuinely missing out on someone so engaging when they dismiss her as either whore or victim. it’s a constant frustration, for me, that the way we talk about her remains so superficial.

25. common fandom complaint that you're sick of hearing

god, i have so many of these; you could just send me 25s repeatedly atp haha. i think the most annoying thing though is the people who get weirdly offended by the insinuation that this fandom is, indeed, a fandom. there is this hypocrisy over how legitimate engagement can be — but ofc., certain people can be called ‘stans’ (indeed, ab fans can invent terms like ‘heneven eleven stans’ and ‘seyhive’, because people are just that painfully uncreative) but god forbid somebody, in turn, calls them ab stans. ‘i’m not a stan, i have a BA/BS/BE/LLB’; you write fanfiction — you are not serious people lol. it’s not an academic conference… nobody cares about you. you can leave if you’re not having fun, nobody is forcing you to be here.

What is one thing you wish you could change in ACOTAR? From the smallest grammar mistake to a world-changing plot point, there has to be something that irks you. And on the other hand, what’s something you love about ACOTAR?

I have a few favs! Lucien, from the start, was always great to read. I loved whenever he was on page and I thought he filled out the snarky handsome disabled sidekick character extremely well. I also have grown to love Eris and Azriel, specifically together. Their ship still boggles me sometimes (especially since it's more popular than tamsand) but there is such a huge amount of talent in their side of the fandom and I've grown to be SIGNIFICANTLY attached. I grew to like Nesta more during Silver Flames, and I loved the additions of Gwyn and Emerie!

I don't really ship Rhys with anyone else except Feyre, but I'm not particularly invested in their relationship. As for Tamlin, though...I could see him having a really interesting dynamic with Nesta, or even Azriel. But nothing can beat his dynamic with Rhys in my eyes.

Tropes!! Ooh I LOVE like wackier AUs and tropes. Time Loop/Travel, Memory Loss, Sex Pollen (if we're talking smut), you name it. I also love Fluff, and that includes anything under that umbrella: fluff and angst, fluff and smut, hurt/comfort. I'm gonna count that as both 4 and 5 cause I am definitely rambling atp. I like AUs and tropes that put the characters in unusual situations. I just think it always poses for an interesting, engaging read. But I also am a sucker for happy endings.

One thing I wish I'd change about ACOTAR...oh boy. There is certainly a Lot to choose from. But I'd have to say the biggest thing that really makes my blood boil is the ret-conning. From the whole thing of Tamlin crawling towards Amarantha while he was recovering from his wound and Feyre later explicitly being like "he didn't crawl for me" to Beron being described as resembling Lucien, only for him to not be Lucien's father, and any other examples in between. Plot points like that being twisted and altered just feels like lazy writing idk. I could go on about this for a ridiculous amount of time.

Something I love about acotar is the actual fantasy world itself. I love the whole Courts system and that it's based on solar and seasonal phases, I love the classic fantasy aspect of it all.

when I write time loop fics there are a few "rules" I give myself while I'm writing:

TW/CWs: impermanent death+suicide mentions

1. It has to start with the MC dying - it can’t happen at random it needs to happen where their story would have otherwise been forced to end.

2. They have to wake up in the past - they can’t just come-to mid interaction, they should preferably wake up when they naturally woke up at that point in the past, either from sleeping or being otherwise unconscious.

3. They can’t come to the conclusion that they’re in a time loop immediately - they need to come to the conclusion after seeing someone that should be dead, or watching a series of events happen just as they remember them happening beat by beat, or by seeing everything around them returned to how they used to be in a fashion that couldn’t have been orchestrated by someone, or a mixture of these things.

4. Each time loop starts at the same time - the exception to this (because there is an exception to nearly every rule) is if, as loops pass, some are slightly off or different, the idea that nothing repeats exactly, and there is some circumstance that forces the loop to start differently (especially if you use it to get to throw your MC off)

5. There has to be at least one other character that notices that the character is acting strange/different and makes it their newest life mission to figure out why they’re like that - y’know, just for the added drama.

6. After several attempts to “fix” things by trying to do things in a relatively easy way and failing every time, they begin attempting more morally reprehensible things (i.e. killing characters they wouldn’t have before, ruining their own relationships, etc.) - bonus if this technically works and they come to the conclusion they’ve been trying to reach this entire time and they then realise that they can’t go on with their lives knowing that they killed character A, or that character B will never trust them again so they force themselves to restart again.

7. They stop considering the people in failed attempts as actual people after a while - they’re just characters in a failed go-round so the MC is either unnecessarily mean or cruel to these characters or they fully just off themselves suddenly in front of them (a staple in every good loop fic).

8. Memories aren’t the only thing that carries over between loops - injuries (or at least scars from injuries) and trauma do as well.

9. They start coming closer to succeeding when they start trusting at least one other character with the fact that they’re stuck in a time loop.

10. When they finally come to the ending they’ve been vying for they have to sacrifice something and/or finally have to come to terms with the fact that the loops fucked them up majorly - both physically and mentally.

11. The loop doesn’t need to be explained. Seriously if the issue you’re having with writing loop fics is the fact that you don’t know why the loop is happening or how you’re gonna explain it - you don’t have to!
