Do you ever just feel really lonely?
Not because you don't have ppl that love you, but because you feel that you lack a true community to be a part of?
Like, I have friends who I love very much❤️
But a lot of them come from being part of different fandoms or nerd cultures...
And I've just felt like I don't actually belong in those places anymore since I don't have time to participate.
And I don't have time because all of it is spent trying to survive.
So those friends in those subcultures and I have drifted apart.
Also, I think I've been seeking attention recently via desperate promotion of my art projects because I usually get ignored by people unless I'm producing something.
Anyway, I think I need to make some vent art soon...

I'll bite--I've got an animatic in the works, and I've posted some sneak peeks and progress on tumblr already! It's set to the song Walk Me Home by P!nk, which to me encapsulates the trust and safety that Murderbot and Mensah have found in each other throughout the series. I've pulled some of my favorite Murderbot & Mensah scenes from the book and arranged them in a non-chronological order that I hope makes sense.
I have a complete rough draft, basically a full storyboard of thumbnails with rough color that I set to the music, to work out the timing and figure out how many frames I needed to draw (70+, it turns out). From there I've been working on redrawing those 70+ frames a bit neater, which takes some time! Here's a few that I haven't shared on tumblr yet:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The project is on pause right now. I started it back in February, and picked it up again this summer and made a huge amount of progress before burning myself out a bit (which is why I haven't shared any progress recently). But I have about 2/3 of the final frames drawn, so when I'm ready to pick it up again I'm hoping I'll be able to get the final product together quickly!
(And by the way, HUGE kudos to the fanimation team for all the passion, collaboration and hard work that went into their creation! I've been loving the behind-the-scenes content, and of course the animatic itself is a work of art. One of the things that drove me to start working on my own animatic was the idea of getting to join the ranks of the other incredibly talented animators & animatic-makers of the Murderbot fandom, and hopefully teach myself a fraction of their skill!!)
Are y'all gonna be posting anything more on the youtube channel ie storyboards, more animatics?
Thanks for the ask!
To answer your question, probably not. After two years of hard work in between life responsibilities like university, jobs, family, the pandemic, and so on, the Murderbot Fanimation team has no plans to produce more animation.
We leave further animatics in the hands of our fellow fans- not to put the pressure on anyone, but we've heard of a couple in the works right now, and we're excited to see and cheer on any works in progress! If you have a Murderbot fanimatic you'd like to plug, ping us on our social media (or rb/comment on this post) and we'll be happy to give you a shoutout. :D
Meanwhile, keep an eye out for more behind-the-scenes content from the Murderbot Fanimation Project- we still have a lot of fan love and labor in the form of character designs, backgrounds, and yes, storyboards still left to showcase!

[Image description : a white and black digital drawing with line art. Four rows of five floating heads of the character Shiro from cartoon Voltron : the legendary defenders. There are six different versions of this character’s head : young Shiro without a scar from the Garrison days, Shiro from the beginning of the series with white bangs (floof) and nose scar, Shiro from the end of the series with totally white hair, Kuro with glowing eyes from an hallucination, Sven with black hair and no scar from the alternate reality, Kuron one of Shiro’s clones with long hair. There are a few copies of each head and are in a random order in the row, and the heads on the sides of the image are cut by the edges. A lone, seventh head made of a simple dotted outline and without features  is on the bottom left corner. /End ID]

I feel like I've sold my soul for this project. I'm still working on it. It was a pain in the ass to find the sound clips I needed, and in order to make this work how I want with sound, it will be about a 20 second clip total. So trying to animate to pictures with frame animation, adds to the complexity.
BUT I SHALL CONQUER! I've had to restart the animation twice now, but I wanted a challenge so I am challenged!
AND I WILL BE VICTORIOUS!!

aaaaa tysm!! ;W; i really appreciate it ;w;w;w;
i tend to get nervous when describing my creations to people cause even though i feel confident in them i still tend to feel awkward like "but what if this person that i really hope likes it doesn't like it or thinks the idea is stupid or something" ^^; hopefully that made sense ^^;
so a general description (this may sound kinda out there) is that it's a fairly lengthy animated series (gonna be posted on YouTube) with the main theme/premise of the kids' (who are now about 5-6 years older) journies of striving to heal from their pain and hardships along with discovering hidden superpowers tied to their ability to overcome said pain and battling against rising threats.
The main cast is like over 20 of the kids XD and they get substantial character exploration and stuff; especially the main protagonist Kenny/Mysterion, who also goes on a journey of life, death and mystery :D along with Butters/Professor Chaos who also goes through the wringer. Kenny and Butters are the main characters with their respective families having the most exploration but theres also gonna be plenty of character exploration and character dynamic exploration with other characters like Stan, Kyle, Cartman, Craig's gang and a bunch of others
In terms of comparing and contrasting with canon South Park, its got its own storylines and character arcs that largely build off of canon material as well as a lot of headcanons and fan concepts that I really wanna explore, multiple canon episodes/events will be adapted in some way or another; some of them being revisited and built off from, and some of them playing out with quite a different spin, but the series as a whole is still telling its own stories that build and connect with canon and fanon. tone/style wise i'm aiming for a mix of crazy over-the-top South Park shenanigans and dramatic emotional and epic vibes, also i'm aiming for an anime vibe/style, like a South Park anime adaptation mixed with a lot of headcanons and fan concepts. it's got an overarching story with a lot of plot, lore, world and character stuff going on, and there are 4 arcs within the whole story, each of them revolving around certain things that play out in the series.
also a bunch of fan ships are canon in this series like Bunny, Style etc. :3 also while I don't really view it in a religious light there is a huge focus on angel and demon related stuff
i've been developing this series for about 4 years i think? especially this past year, i've been typing a huge amount of notes and ideas for a bunch of the stuff in this series and so far arc 1 is planned to have 13 episodes, though i'm still on episode 1 right now ;w; but i have confidence in my abilities for storytelling, animation/art, character stuff, and all that.
sorry i didnt mean to type a huge amount, i was meaning to give a general brief description to sum up the basic gist while also explaining that there's a bunch more things to it as well, but somehow it became way more lengthy oops ^^; even though i still barely scratched the surface with my description cause i don't wanna give away too much yet ;w;
uhh i guess an actual brief description would be: ambitious self-indulgent fanime with elaborate storytelling and character exploration along with epic battles and a mix of canon and fanon/headcanon.
im hoping to achieve something that does the characters and their potential justice, i'm just also worried that the "epic battle anime" vibe is gonna make people think its inherently "cringy bad fake fan South Park fanfiction" or something even though I dont hold that opinion, and i'm hoping to create something that shows that South Park in anime style or with epic tones can still genuinely be true to the source material and have the characters be in-character (like just cause Kyle is in cute anime style doesn't mean he's suddenly gonna stop being a badass, for example) while also creating something of its own vastly different world as well, hopefully that made sense ^^;;
oops that response turned out WAY longer than i expected, sorry about that ^^;; im also nervous whether or not you guys would find it interesting or uninteresting, of course theres no pressure, i just tend to ramble about my nervous worries ^^;;;
also if you want i could send some images from ep1 to give more of an idea, also feel free to ask questions if you want ^^;
is it alright if I ask, are you and Shirley still invested in South Park fan content and is there any possibility South Park or the fandom/fan content will pull you guys back in someday?
I've been working on a pretty ambitious and elaborate South Park AU series that's basically like an alternate South Park world with it's own spin and story/plotlines/setting/concepts/lore and stuff and also character exploration and stuff, and I was wondering if you guys would be interested in checking it out when it comes out or not really?
Sorry I hope it's alright for me to ask that ^^; also sorry if i'm bothering you by sending these questions again, i just started getting paranoid whether it got lost in the shuffle i dunno ^^; please let me know if i'm asking too frequently or invasively ^^;
Of course it's okay to ask! I doubt there'd be anything that could get Shirley and I interested in the podcast again (the show has to do that), but we're definitely still interested in South Park content. Can I ask for more details about your AU series?

Today's stream went really well!
More of my pretty overlays I bought were able to import into Sreamlabs.✨️
I got to gush about my DnD campaign lore, NPCs, and my player's characters a bunch!🎨
I finally finished the cute sleepy cuddles drawing of Prince/Ambassador Solas and his bodyguard/werebear himbo boyfriend, Ryland!❤️
I also got to finish detailing the big half-dragon lady, Belinda, with all her sparkly jewelry. She is extra since she owns/runs the local Brothel. 😏
I managed to start and finish one of Belinda's employees, a cute/chubby faun, today as well.🦌
All in all a productive day. I look forward to streaming again next Wednesday with the results of the poll I put up on my Twitter.
(I asked ppl what they want me to draw/demonstrate)
I can try putting a poll here on Tumblr as well! I'd love to know what ppl like to see on stream.
And I stream every Wednesday from 2-8pm Pacific time, so there is plenty of opportunity for more poll options next time 👍✨️

Like. Regardless of the context of Krillin's treatment in the entire media and wanting to add unnecessary """comedy""" out of place isn't it sad how DB characters are not allowed to have moments where they are silly and unlucky even for the sake of a little jokey because otherwise they are Ruined Forever even if they have been characterized like that since their creation
This reminds me of Sarahz's video on old fandoms where in the DBAF section she said that back then "fans only wanted for characters to have the biggest muscles and be as strong as possible", how have NOT past that age yet?
It's like whenever Gohan or any of the hybrids do Anything you get 49000 dudes screaming they are not supposed to do any happy shit but Fights gods and robots and aliens on repeat until they can beat Beerus or something and the link to some fanimation of Gotenks fighting Gamma 1 or smt, LIKE
Free DBZ from its meathead and pretentious fans and let be Krillin be a dork without having to scroll past 30 comments of "my GOAT Tien would never lose to a bee, strongest human my ass #hacktaro" i'm TIRED
I thought the scene where Krillin gets solo'd by the mecha bee was Ok and decent way to make Hedo&pals getting away with the situation in the manga but then I saw twitter and remembed db fans are joyless creatures

As promised, here is my analysis on Nyan~ Neko Sugar Girls.
Before reading, please be aware that the show touches on sensitive subject matter, such as death, illness, abuse, toxic relationships, Stockholm syndrome, and sexual assault.
   Nyan~ Neko Sugar Girls, a series created by Yoli-chan from SoapOpera46 on YouTube, has long been a subject of debate among internet users. While at first it seems ridiculous that the creation a show that looks like it was made in MSPaint is still being debated today, the more you analyze the situation the more bizarre the series gets.
   The main debate that rose from Nyan~ Neko Sugar Girls’ creation, is whether or not the series was made poorly as a joke, or if it was a genuine attempt at making a fanime. It is my personal belief, that the series was made by Yoli-chan as a joke. While advice for either side of the argument is few and far between, I believe I’ve found more evidence in favor of the series being a parody. Most damning is the fact that Yoli-chan didn’t use her trademark anime-esque typing quirks until she uploaded the first episode of Nyan~ Neko Sugar Girls in 2010.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
   I also feel like it’s worth mentioning a certain joke in episode three, in which Hitoshi-san was about to say that they lived in America before correcting himself. In the context of this show being made unironically, this would make no sense because in the video they draw a lot of attention to Hitoshi saying this by adding an American flag in the background but in the context of this being made as a joke it makes a lot more sense. Most likely Yoli-chan is poking fun at her supposed surface level understanding of life in Japan.
   So I lead myself to the conclusion that Yoli-chan is satirizing...something, but I was unsure as to what she is satirizing exactly. I formed a list of various anime genres she might be parodying, such as shoujo, harem, ecchi, and drama. I was originally going to write about how the series is meant to be satirizing the anime fanbase as a whole, but I ended writing myself into a corner with that one. So I went back to harems, an idea I had originally only written down to fill space, an idea that I overlooked. The more I thought about it, the more sense it made.
   Our protagonist oddly enough, isn’t Raku-chan. The true protagonist is actually Hitoshi-san. Harem animes tend to focus on the love interests rather than the main character, so there’s no problems there. The true problem lied in Hitoshi-san himself, who was far too interesting to be a generic harem protagonist (it’s a low bar to reach). He’s charismatic, emotional, flirty, and a jokester which are all very rare traits for a protagonist in the genre to have. In the context of a genre deconstruction however, these traits make a lot more sense. Hitoshi deconstructs the stereotypical generic protagonist in his introduction scene.
   Before he is introduced, the only other time that we see him is in the opening, and compared to the other girls his appearance is a bit more generic. Unlike Raku and Koneko -who are shown walking and having their hair dramatically flow in the wind- Hitoshi just awkwardly bobs up and down. He wears a black shirt and blue jeans, and lacks any notable features like cat ears or a tail. We don’t think much of him, but he’s likely going to be important judging by his presence in the theme song. During the episode after Raku-chan and Koneko-chan finish eating, Raku’s head quickly darts over her shoulder and she exclaims: “Koneko-chan! Look at that guy over there! He’s so sugoi!” This is where we are properly introduced to Hitoshi-san, who wastes no time (awkwardly) flirting with the girls and delivering his signature catchphrase. From this Raku-chan falls in love at first sight and we know that he is by no means a vanilla protagonist. This leaves us with one other question though, if Hitoshi-san is the protagonist, then who is Raku-chan?
   Raku-chan is supposed to be a character who can be described a number of different ways: the Betty, the nice girl, the girl next door, the childhood friend, but I feel that a phrase that encompasses all of these is “The First Girl”. In harem animes and the romance genre as a whole, the first girl serves as a base template and a set-up for potential subversions. She’s likely a neighbor or a childhood friend -or at least someone who acts like one of those things-. From a grab-bag of traits she can be kind, energetic, playful, intelligent, honest, and upstanding. She cares about the protagonist like a friend, but secretly she wants more. Most importantly, it’s unlikely that she will end up with the protagonist in the end.
   Since episode one -other than her loud voice- her most notable trait was her hopeless infatuation with Hitoshi-san. As strange as she may be, she fits plenty of the tropes she’s kindhearted and acts like an old friend to Hitoshi despite them just meeting. The love part’s pretty obvious, and so is the rejection. She falls in love with Hitoshi, only for him to end up with Bokutachi instead. I’ll get to how she’s a subversion, but first I have to talk about Bokutachi-san himself.
   Bokutachi-san is the closest the series ever gets to having a true “villain”. He kidnaps Hitoshi-san and talks about his intentions to “have his way” with him. After Hitoshi-san is saved by Koneko-chan and Raku-chan, Hitoshi-san seems to suffer from some form of Stockholm syndrome which caused him to fall in love with his captor. This would eventually lead to Hitoshi-san rejecting Raku-chan’s love confession, which leads to her untimely death which Bokutachi then mocks Hitoshi with. Oh yeah, Raku-chan dies, of a broken heart to be specific. Before this we were lead on to believe that she was going to die from either rabies or a neko demon. Needless to say the entire series gets very strange after Raku-chan gets rabies from a squirrel.
   There are a lot of parallels between tropes found in harem anime and Nyan~ Neko Sugar Girls, but what does it all mean? What’s Yoli-chan trying to say? My guess is that she’s trying to satirize toxic relationships being used as plot devices in the romance genre. Here’s how:
   1. Raku-chan is established as an angelic archetype of sorts. She’s innocent, loves Christmas, and her possession by the neko demon causes her to grow angelic bird wings instead of reptilian wings that you’d expect from a demon. (Not to mention that after her death the normal end credits song is replaced Koneko-chan singing Last Christmas)
   2. Bokutachi-san is the villain and an abusive partner. He starts the conflict of the anime, kidnaps and ties up Hitoshi-san, and intended to assault him.
   3. Hitoshi-san inexplicably falls in love with Bokutachi-san in spite of the abuse and trauma he went through.
   4. Raku-chan (the angel) dies due to Hitoshi-san choosing to stay with his abuser.
   Did Yoli-chan intend for this series to be interpreted in such a way? Probably not, but it’s certainly quite a strange coincidence considering how a bunch of this fits together.

I’ve been cosplaying for three years when I attended AX 2009. Around this time, Abel from Trinity Blood was my fifth cosplay in the making. As part of a group, I competed in the costume contest that year; we were awarded second place! For my first anime con competition and only my second time competing, it was a rather amazing experience!
Awards aside, my Abel cosplay wasn’t originally chosen or made to compete. I had considered the character an impossible costume when I started it, as well as a challenge when learning the skills needed in completing it’s design. Tasks involved resin casting for the arrows and “belt bling”, thermoplastic armor work, two-piece fitted sleeves with princess seams, mitered corner trim, and even millenary work for the crazy cape collar. I utilized techniques from my equestrian background for the leather work and incorporated screw posts so I could have a flexible, jointed pauldron. This would give me the ability to get the foot armor on and off with ease.
In 2008, I tried to finish my Abel costume in time for a Trinity Blood gathering at Fanime. I tearfully failed. Despite giving your best effort towards meeting a deadline, there will be moments when you can’t finish on time. I learned that if you’re patient and give yourself time to finish it later, it can work out for the better! Abel debuted at AX 2008 without some of the armor – as the manga volume 1 version. Someone even recognized it as such at the con! In the course of time, it took me two years to officially complete this costume.
Reviewing photos of Abel helped me figure out what kind of improvements I needed to make. Because I’d worn the costume several times, I was familiar with the way it felt when I moved in it. Thus, the fear of costume malfunctions happening on stage subsided. A year later, I had finished the cosplay and felt comfortable enough to wear it for a contest.
Since then, Abel has been worn to over 30 conventions and/or photoshoot gatherings, and is still wearable as of 2019. I like to joke that the wear and tear of the costume actually suits the character description of his uniform as looking less than pristine. Nonetheless, Abel is still one of my favorite costumes to wear. The character is simply a lot of fun to cosplay!
In the past decade, I finished 19 more cosplays. The number isn’t grand, but I tend to be slow and assemble my cosplay like garments so they last longer. I spend a fair amount of time researching and planning (including historical studies if needed) when putting together a costume. I prepare fitted mock ups customized from multiple patterns, use a variety of seam finishes based on fabric or garment type, pad-stitch facings and/or linings where needed, and finesse the detailed work.
I’ve competed and won numerous awards, and had the honor of being a judge for several competitions. But not all the costumes I make are meant for competitions. I like to make cosplay just for the joy of being involved in a cosplaying group. I really enjoy seeing “doubles” or “triples” of the same character. As a point of proof, I met one of my closest friends over 10 years ago because we both cosplayed Abel.
Creating cosplay has become a lot easier due to the increased number of commercial patterns, wig options, and other accessible supplies. There’s an abundance of guided material online, “how to videos”, and even a growing amount of books on relating topics. When shopping, I get less of “the look” from store associates when I’m asked how they can assist me. I’m able to happily answer that I’m working on a costume.
A decade ago, when cosplaying out in public for photoshoots, I’d experience quite a number of negative or suspicious reactions from non-cosplayers. Now there’s a lot of people interested and excited to see our creations. It’s appreciated when individuals recognize what we do as cosplayers.
