If you found us via Tumblr, chances are you know what fanfiction is. For the DLA, fanfiction offers an opportunity to approach canonical, well-known texts from a new perspective and to make them approachable in turn. Here, a fan retells Hesse’s Demian, there, the friendship between Friedrich Schiller and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe is, in fact, a love story. Fanfiction offers an ideal venue for both the study of acts of reading as well as of acts of writing and even concepts of authorship. It is not only creative, derivative, collaborative, and interactive, but also subversive: both love letter to and resistance against the original.

Since 2024, the Literature on the Web project includes efforts to archive fanfiction – to preserve it and make it visible and accessible for research or casual reading. We are specifically interested in archiving fanfiction written on works of literature or prominent persons included in the DLA’s regular archive collections, as well as fic written on topoi that play(ed) a role in German literary history. Your fic doesn’t have to be in German to be interesting to us!

Hi, ich bin die Neue.

Grob 14 Jahre bin ich zu spät dran, die Vorteile sind allerdings fantastisch: 14 Jahre Content und alles. ist. mir. neu. Ich ertrinke in Video- und Fotomaterial, und Fanfiktion. (Alter, die Fanfiktion! Uff.)

Wenn ihr Lust habt auch auf Insta zu konnekten, mein Nutzername dort ist cof.fi.fee. Ich bin eher 'ne Like- und Kommentiermaus, aber wenn diese Obsession so weitergeht, schließe ich nichts aus. Nichts.

Apropos, auf Fanfiktion.de findet ihr mich unter coffifee. Die Plotbunnies sind jetzt schon brutal, leider stelle ich mich beim Schreiben selten dämlich an, daher no promises. Aktuell suchte ich mich so hart durch's Archiv, mein Kindle winselt schon um Gnade, hö. Ich muss demnächst dringend einen Feedback-Tag einlegen. Es gibt jetzt schon so viele Geschichten die ich abgöttisch liebe.

Hab ich mit den Accounts jetzt eigentlich alle meine Bases gecovert? (Ja, mein Denglisch ist brutal, sorry.) Vielleicht können mir die alten Hasen unter euch mal Tipps geben. Wo hängt der Klako (warum eigentlich Klako? war KlaJo schon vergeben? Ich raff's nicht) Fandom so ab? Gibt's noch 'nen Discord Channel? 'Ne Whatsapp Gruppe? Bitte gerne alle Infos, Links, Invites. Ich bin auch ganz lieb und cheerleade wie ein Pro! Versprochen.

Diese Woche gibt es mal wieder kein Gib den Sternen einen Namen. Ich weiß auch noch nicht, wann ich da wieder etwas hochladen werde. Mein Gehirn weigert sich leider in letzter Zeit komplett, sich auch nur irgendwie darauf zu fokussieren, tut mir ehrlich leid. Aber ich verspreche, ich schreibe weiter!

Stattdessen gibt es heute mal wieder Schoethe! Und auch eine Schoethe-Fanfic, die ich schon wirklich sehr lange auf meinem Laptop liegen habe! Es ist mal wieder Major Character Death, hab ich auch schon lange nicht mehr geschrieben... Aber keine Sorge, es ist nicht so heartbreaking wie manch andere meiner Fanfics. Versprochen!

Ich habe jetzt auch fast ein Jahr lang alle zwei Wochen eine Fanfic hochgeladen und obwohl ich noch ein paar hätte, mit denen ich weitermachen könnte, werde ich das hier erstmal abbrechen. Ich will den Rest der bereits geschriebenen Fanfiktions erst nach GdSeN hochladen und da ich noch nicht weiß, wann ich das weiterschreiben werde, breche ich das hier erstmal wieder ab. Aber es geht sicherlich bald weiter, auch das verspreche ich!

Ich wurde darüber informiert, dass es jetzt StoryHub.de gibt, ein neues deutsches Fanfiction-Archiv. Die gute Nachricht ist, dass man damit auf jeden Fall schon mal den unsexy MRA Admin und seine Entourage umgehen kann. Die schlechte ist, dass sich die Plattformen sonst nicht oder kaum zu unterscheiden scheinen. Es sieht alles ein bisschen anders aus, aber der Aufbau ist quasi identisch. Filterfunktionen scheint es gar keine zu geben, also nicht mal die rudimentären von FFde. Dafür sind grauenhafte Rechtschreibung und fremde Sprachen [sic!] verboten. Und alles mögliche andere leider auch.

Sieht nicht so aus, als sei das jetzt die technisch avanciertere/zeitgemäßere und liberalere Plattform, auf die wir alle (?) gewartet haben, haben, aber naja. Ihr wisst Bescheid. :3 

Falls jemand einen Erfahrungsbericht oder eine Meinung loswerden möchte, die Submit-Funktion ist freigeschaltet und ich würde mich freuen.

I'm curious have you searched on your own in other pages apart from Ao3 fics of Alucard xAlexander . I've searched the depths of the internet. Silly me, maybe you were already 50 steps ahead. You know FanFiktion that page in German, I don't know German but that's what the translator is for, isn't it ? There is a delicious fic called Who sow wind, will harvest storm another one called Sacrifice very good fics of this couple.

I have looked on Japanse sites. Not a German one, though. I found the first fic you mentioned (first chapter was great, though I haven't finished it yet), but I couldn't find the second one. When I get some time, I'll glance through the archive and add some of the fics to my directory. Thank you for letting me know!

Es ist wieder dieser Freitag und ich habe eine neue Fanfiktion für euch. Die ist wieder mal bestimmt zwei Jahre alt und ich finde es immer wieder faszinierend, wie sich mein Schreibstil doch verändert hat in der Zeit.

Aber jedenfalls ist das mal eine Fanfiktion im Schoethe-Fandom. Muss ja auch mal wieder sein. Und sie spielt in Hamlet-Komplott, wozu ich irgendwie noch gar nichts gesehen habe auf AO3. Und irgendwie redet auch keiner auf tumblr darüber, dabei ist es echt ein gutes Buch. Ich habs mir trotzdem mal erlaubt, eine Szene ein wenig umzuschreiben. Es ist die, in der Goethe high ist und mit Schiller redet. Irgendwie hat die mir nicht so ganz gefallen, also hab ich die Sache kurzerhand selbst in die Hand genommen.

Naja, wie dem auch sei, hier ist die Fanfiktion, ich hoffe, sie gefällt:

Auch, wenn ich hier schon ewig nicht mehr gepostet habe, dachte ich mal, dass ich hier ein klein wenig Werbung für meine neue Fanfiktion mache. Mal was ganz Neues für mich - nicht Fußball, sondern Tatort! Adam und Leo (vor allem Leo, haha) haben ein klein wenig mein Herz geklaut. Where can you post/find fanfictions?

I decided to do this kind of review (no one asked) for sites that allow you to upload fanfiction.

Might not be 100% objective, but I'll try. I will talk about tags, search system, comments, content they allow, etc. I will comment some well known sites, and mention a few for fanfics in other languages.

 Wattpad

This site is not centered on fanfics, but it allows uploading them as a category. Works here are called books.

This site has more similarities with social sites; you have a profile that shows notoriously your number of followers and number of stories. But it cans also recommend you stories based on the ones you voted, or the users you follow.

The users can send notifications to their followers, and users can leave messages on your profile. The site also shows your activity (stories you voted/commented, users you followed, etc.). You can organize your favorites ("library") in diferent lists.

You can find fanfics in various languages (Spanish, Italian, French, a few I have seen…)

((It also has an app, but I never used it.)))

 Posting a work:

You can add an image as a cover.

You can add images to the story.

You can add a summary.

You can save a draft BUT it doesn't work that well, ALWAYS keep a backup somewhere else.

Rating: Stories can be rated as mature, but you should read the guidelines to know what's not allowed.

Category: You can only choose one category, so if you chose Fanfic, you have to add more info on the tags.

Tags search: You can add tags. Searching stories can be dificult. If a story doesn't have many votes it migth not appear.

Status: Story can be marked as complete.

Interactions:

Only registered users can leave a comment and vote. It's interesting the users can leave a comment for a specific line/paragraph. Also they can leave a vote per chapter. Anonymous/not registered users cannot interact/vote, but anyone can read.

This site is centered in images, but it has a literature section.

As many sites, DA allows to create a profile, where registered users can leave messages. You can watch users to keep track of their work.

Posting a work:

Doesn't give too many options, for stories with multiple chapters, you need to create a folder.

Some users post their story on the comments/description of a picture, if they do it this way, it won’t appear on the literature section.

Category: Can only be posted under the category Literature>>Fan Fiction and add another subcategory if you want (Drama, fantasy, Humor, etc.)

Rating: Works can be marked as mature, but read the guidelines, it doesn't allow to much.

Tags, search: It's okay I guess? Used to work better before.

Interactions:

Only registered users can leave a comment and fav/colect the works. User can disable comments if they wish.

Users can watch other users

Users can be blocked

This site is very organized for fanfictions. Allows to upload in various languages, but most of them are in English.

With an account you can also bookmark stories and subscribe to receive notifications when they are updated.

Users can add a description on their profiles if they wish.

Posting a work:

You can add notes at the end and beginning, they are separated from the work.

You can add a summary.

You can embed images/videos if they are uploaded on another server.

Rating: General, Teen, Mature, Explicit, Not rated.

Relationships: Gen, Male/Female, Male/male, Female/Female, Others.

Archive warnings: allows warning the readers of certain topics such as violence.

Status: Story can be marked as complete.

Tags, search: It separates the tags in categories: Fandom, Relationships ("Romantic" is CharaA/CharaB, non-romantic CharaC & Chara D), and additional tags.

Users can filter a lot of things. It works really well as long as the writer has tagged things correctly. But you can find unfinished stories with tons of characters tags that didn't appear yet, or characters that barely said one line.

You can also filter per rating, and completely exclude mature works if you wish. You can also exclude a certain tag by adding a minus in front of the tag, I.E –charactertag, -shipname

Interactions:

Depending on what the writer has chosen, anonymous comments may or may not be allowed; comments can be moderated, or disabled.

Both users and anons can leave kudos.

 Fanfiction net

A classic, but I just started searching fanfics again on this site a while ago. Haven’t used it to post anything, this description will be brief.

Allows to upload in various languages, but most of them are in English.

Posting a work:

Allows adding a cover for the stories.

You can add a summary. 

Notes had to be added along the rest of the text. Users usually separate it from the story with a line or writing in bold/italic.

Category: (Genre) Drama, fantasy, Humor, etc.

Rating: K, T, M… Read the guidelines…

Tags, search: Works fine. You can add characters and ships, and also exclude them from the search if you want to avoid them.

Interactions:

Both registered users and anons can leave messages. Only users can fav.

User can follow a strory/user.

Users can be blocked

A few names, barely with description:

You might find fanfics on Amino Apps, if a user posts it there. But these are easy to lost, depending on the activity. This site can be used from a desk computer too.

You can find fanfics on tumblr, depending on your luck, reblogs and people you follow, you might find them here.

I guess there are still some active forums out there with a fanfic section...

In another languages:

(Sorry for the brief descriptions, but I barely know two languages, I’m guessing some things from the icons)

EFP fanfic net. A site for fanfics in Italian. As far as I can see, it works similarly to FF net, there is a color code for rating (green>general, yellow>teens?, red>adults) and some warnings (spoiler, triangolo, Mpreg.) It seems it also has a section for original stories.

Fanfic . es A site for fanfics in Spanish. As far as I know, the server has failed a few times before. Not super active, but you can find some stories.

Fanfictions . fr and fanfic-fr net. Two sites with fanfics in French. I kind of guess they work similarly to FF net.

Fanfiktion . de. A site for fanfics in German. I kind of guess it works similarly to FF net.

Spiritfanfiction . com and fanfiction . com . br. Two sites with fanfics in Portuguese. As far as I can see, they works similarly to FF net, stories had a cover, rating indicated with a little color square with the minimum age.

Feel free to reblog and add any other one you know.

Some tips to find stories:

I see a lot of people looking for fanfics (even commenting about not finding anything about x topic and I can swear I’ve seen at least one or two...)

Here are some tips to find fanfics (besides searching per tag)

Do you like how a user writes? Enter their profile/account and see if they have more stories. Look for their favorites/bookmarks too. (You can even find they have stories for another fandom you like!)

See who has commented/fav/left kudos on a story you like, enter their profile/account and see their favorites/bookmarks. You can also see if they have their own stories.

Search for tumblrs who reblog/recommend fanfics.

Use the google search site besides the search bar from the site, in case the author hasn’t tagged what you are looking for.
