Here it is! You guys voted, so here’s my severely angsty fic ☺️ and for those who voted otherwise- don’t worry, that story is coming very soon as well.

It’s funny how these used to crack me up but, as one gets older, you’ll rarely shameface yourself for indulging in fanfiction anymore. I can’t even count the many years I’ve been in this hole, but to me they have enriched my life more than they’ve embarrassed it. When I tell people I’m a writer and they ask me what do you write, I don’t even hesitate for a second to roll up my metaphorical sleeves and get into vivid detail on the merits of my creations. I understand why people still think of fanfiction as a low sort of literature, but all my academic life I have been trying to prove the exact opposite.
Because the creativity that is funnelled through fandoms is, simply, unmatched. Fic writers spend years dedicating their lives to something that will never even profit them. And yet you find the highest peaks of insane creativity, mixed with astonishing abilities to write, which levels over published authors. Levels over the original published authors they're writing in their fandoms sometimes.
And all for no return.
This escapism that is given to us is, in my humble opinion, one of the best. Yes, you will miss out on so much if you’re only stuck in fics and never read books, but I think you’ll miss even more if you’re never introduced to the concept of fanfiction. You miss out on remaining in the safe havens of the characters you’ve already fully embraced. You miss out on perceiving them in whole other perspectives, to the point that they could become something else entirely in your eyes. Hell, you even miss out on the simple pat on the back from strangers that want nothing more than to make your day with their words.
Fanfiction is like unconditional love given to the masses, and the simple kudos in return keeps us in this state of giving. To me, it’s a small restoration of human goodness, and I think, with our time and age, it’s just really beautiful to be overlooked. So channel back this love and go write a comment to your fav writers and let them know you’re not hiding from the fact that you like reading their works, even when they’re mere words on screen :)
"you read a lot, right?"
"yes!"
"what are some books you've recently read?"

At some point "fanfic can be as good as professional writing" became "fanfic should be as good as professional writing" and that's caused major damage to fandom spaces.

So like. I haven’t written a fic in like two weeks. And it’s not bc I’ve outgrown Reylo or fic writting. It’s bc I’m lacking ideas. But I finally got one.
So very early in my Reylo fic writing I did a story where they tell their kids the truth about- ya know, everything,. But it wasn’t very good in my opinion and kinda lacked a lot. And since then I’ve sorta changed my AU lore. (Like I made more fan babies. I try to write most of my fics in a sense where they all co exists but you don’t need to read them in order.)
So Imma rewrite that fic. It’ll probably be a few chapters long, and I’ll post one shots here and there, but I’m so excited to be writing again!!!

Another AO3 thing I’m curious about, how do yall decide if something is good enough to read? Usually I follow a rule of 1 kudos for every 10 hits. One because it’s easy math and two it’s yet to fail me. Thoughts? Do you just go for it and pray it’s good?

Imagine you're opening AO3 and search for a fic. Imagine you're finding one that fits all your criterias. Imagine it has the perfect length. Imagine getting lost in the story and feeling almost high when it's over. Imagine looking up the author and they have written. so. many. more. fics. exactly. like. that. Imagine.
