Pirate King of the North: The Vinsmoke Siblings

Here’s some facts about the Vinsmoke siblings from a reality where Reiju was born without emotions:

Sanji was kept in his father's dungeon to rot away. At 13 years old, he was abandoned for dead on some random island somewhere in the North where he was found and enslaved by pirate slavers.

At 17 years of age, Sanji rallied his fellow slave comrades to overpower the pirates who owned them. He became known as the notorious Mr. Prince and is feared throughout the North.

This caught the attention of Doflamingo, who, after several “run-ins" with the former slave, agreed to help him take on Germa 66.

Thanks to their combined forces and Doflamingo’s Underworld connections, they defeated Germa where Sanji killed his own father for not allowing him to visit his own mother’s grave.

As an act of vengeance, Sanji captured, kept his siblings under lock and key, and forced them into iron helmets just as they did with him.

As soon as he crowned himself King, Sanji released his siblings to work under his command. Their genetic programming forced them to do as they are told. By using them, Sanji expanded his territory in the North through war and other means of control. His influence and power remain unchallengeable to this day. He became known throughout the world as the Pirate King of the North.

Due to their prolonged exposure to the Seastones embedded in the iron helmets, the Vinsmoke siblings discovered that they’re able to feel emotions, and effectively break rules in their genetic programming–two of which are feeling empathy and the ability to refuse direct orders from their Pirate King.

They resented their own brother for killing their former king and father, but they understood his intentions and had chosen to stay by his side.

They’re not a perfect family, but they’re all trying. Like having weekly Friday game nights that Sanji hosts himself.

Playing Monopoly is banned from game night but strip poker is okay if Ichiji brings enough men, women, and anyone in between to play along.

Reiju

Reiju is Sanji’s right hand man, Adviser, Underworld Informant and Broker. She is next in line to the throne.

Whenever she sees Fishmen, she passes out from blood loss through her nose.

She wanted Sanji to marry Prince Fukaboshi but due to complications in political and racial statures, the engagement was called off. Sanji’s relationship with the mermaid prince was permanently terminated due to him killing Hody Jones and Vander Decken IX to liberate Fish-Man Island from their tyrannical rule.

But that’s okay because she has eyes on Prince Ryuboshi or Manboshi for herself.

She relentlessly tries to persuade her king brother to settle down and have kids for the “greater good”.

Her helmet was designed in honour of their late mother and father. It resonates qualities of their beauty and tenacity–both admirable and dangerous in their own ways.

She is the main reason as to why Monopoly is banned from game night. Her bargaining and BS game is on point. A lot of expensive furniture did not survive the onslaught of their collective family rage.

Ichiji

Ichiji is known as the Warmonger Prince from the North.

He acts as Sanji’s High General and is in charge of strategizing for and controlling Germa’s military forces.

He has the second highest bounty among the Vinsmoke siblings, amounting B2,250,000,000. He purposely exposes himself to the public to take some of the fire off Sanji and his siblings.

He refuses to upgrade his Raid Suit and helmet, stating that he’s taking it upon himself to redeem his family's regrettable actions for abusing Sanji the way they did. Sanji thinks this is stupid but respects his decision anyway.

Because of this, he is completely uncontactable during missions unless it’s through means of a transponder snail or letters by post.

He’s become so powerful that he keeps burning off his own outdated cloak, which needs replacing every now and then.

His siblings hate playing chess with him because he never loses.

He has semi-regular orgy parties throughout the Grand Line and the New World. Private invitations only. Bookings are essential. BYO towels. Complimentary champagne on arrival.

Niji

Niji is Germa’s Chief Scientist and Lead Engineer. He oversees all scientific progress for the family.

He gets along really well with Caesar Clown but he refuses to call him his friend.

He is considered a master swordsman but he doesn’t actually need swords when out on missions. “More tools for the arsenal” he says. In truth, he just thinks they make him look cooler.

An exception was made for him to be the only one whose helmet doesn’t cover his entire head as he likes to tinker with it on a regular basis, making it the most technologically advanced out of the four. This makes him the most emotionally sensitive as well.

As he is the fastest among the five, he often swoops in to rescue his siblings out of tight situations.

He sometimes works as an Informant and Undercover Agent along with Reiju.

Such missions include being Sanji’s doppelganger every now and then, much to his dismay. He curses the fact that Ichiji and Yonji both have “gorilla bodies”.

He has been crazy in love with Cosette for many years but doesn’t know it.

Niji likes to use Yonji as a guinea pig to test out new Raid Suit upgrades and not at all to get his attention and spend more time with him because he doesn't know why he hates him now.

Sanji

He is the crown king and ruler of–

Niji: Damn it, Sanji! You have to wear your Raid Suit to join the profiling!

Sanji: But I look hotter like this~

Niji: No, you don’t! Fuck off!

Yonji

He refuses any sort of promotion from Reiju and Ichiji as he prefers to keep his military rank as Major, commanding only a select few elite soldiers under his wing.

Physically, he’s considered the strongest out of the five.

He doesn’t like wearing his helmet so his siblings work hard on making it look as rad as possible to encourage him.

If he was being completely honest with himself, he doesn’t know what to do with all these “feelings”.

Aside from Ichiji, he prefers to work with his comrades in arms rather than his own siblings.

He secretly hates Reiju for enabling Sanji to do whatever he wants to do.

He secretly hates Niji for winning over Cosette’s heart.

He secretly hates Sanji for stealing his best friend.

But what he does like is to read Sogeking comics on WENP and has his full anime and manga collection.

He dislikes a lot of things but secretly thinks Ichiji is cool.

Because of his tendency to turn down missions, Sanji and Reiju refuse to give him extra allowance so he works a part-time job of being a model for Pappag and Camie’s Criminal fashion line.

Cale Thames, formerly known as Cale Henituse, is the current Saint of God of [REDACTED]. Currently, he is running an errand for God of [REDACTED] by working as a temporary assistant for God of Mystery.

He has the appearance of an 18-year-old young man despite his real age that is over 100 years old. It was due to him gaining the trait of Immortal from the World Tree of [Nameless ?].

APPEARANCE

He has beautiful red hair and reddish-brown eyes. He looks like a mischievous young master rather than a trashy one.

Cale prefers to dress up in simple yet elegant clothes that still remind others of his origin as a noble. He also carries a red blade inside a black scarab.

The Assistant

During his appearance as The Assistant of God of Mystery, Cale has white hair and wears a black mask with golden trim that covers the upper part of his face.

PERSONALITY

Cale is a rather mysterious figure. He appears to be a cheerful and mischievous young man but he is quite calculated and good at acting. He also is a vengeful person and has a very sharp tongue.

Despite his youthful appearance, Cale is over 100 years old and has spent many years living through wars. These days, he feels rather tired and wishes to not have more works.

HISTORY

Cale Thames was actually an original Cale Henituse who had turned back time but failed to prevent the destruction of his original world.

His first life is similar to the life of the Original Cale Henituse aka the Current Kim Rok Soo of [Earth 1] up until his deal with the God of Death. Because there was no deal for Cale. It was his own one-time used Ancient Power, Hourglass that turned back time and made him a Regressor. However, due to his lack of information about a lot of events that happened in the past, he didn't manage to reduce much destruction of the war.

Cale however, did become an important figure in Roan as a young Swordmaster, the Crimson Blade. He also developed a different relationship and dynamic with Choi Han’s group and Crown Prince Alberu. He also gained two new relationships with Mary the Necromancer and Clopeh Sekka.

After the destruction of his world the second time, Cale spent his time working for the God of [REDACTED] both as his Saint and as a semi-Wanderer. He also adopted the name Thames and started to continue the study of life and time of the House of Thames around the same time.

ABILITIES

Cale Thames is a Swordmaster with a Crimson Aura. His Aura is quite unique as it contains life and time attributes. He later became a Dragon Slayer after reforging his plate and receiving all the Ancient Powers of Dragon Slayer.

As a Saint, Cale also has a healing ability, however, albeit weaker compared to the healing ability of the Sun God's Saint. However, he can strengthen his healing using his blood to increase the vitality of the healing.

Hourglass is a one-time used Ancient Power that was formed by Cale himself. He already used it once to regress.

Life Ending Blade is [REDACTED].

RELATIONSHIPS

God of [REDACTED]

Cale is the Saint of God of [REDACTED]. However, unlike a typical Saint, he operates more like an employee, similar to how Choi Jung Soo used to work for the God of Death. Cale cares for the God of [REDACTED] like a friend to a friend rather than a Saint to his God.

Choi Han

In his first life, Cale didn't interact much with Choi Han after being beaten up by him. They barely exchanged more than 2 sentences every time they met which is less than 10 if Cale had to count.

However, in his second life, Cale got over his bias and managed to develop something akin to a friendship with Choi Han. A part of it was due to Cale throwing away his pride and asking Choi Han to teach him more about swordsmanship. Later, Cale also considered Choi Han as his teacher.

Rosalyn and Lock

Similar to Choi Han, Cale didn't interact much with them in his first life. They are friends in his second life but he isn't close to them as he is to Choi Han.

Ron Molan and Beacrox Molan

Due to their departure in his first life, Cale mostly avoided or ignored them in his second life.

The Henituse Family

He tried, he tried so hard yet in the end, he failed to protect them even with his second chance.

Alberu Crossman

Cale respects Alberu a lot because of how he managed to gather people and lead the Roan Kingdom through the war in his first life.

In his second life, Cale managed to form a deal with Alberu at the start. It was the foundation for their companionship that developed later when the war started.

Mary

In his first life, Cale only met Mary briefly. However, it was by chance that he encountered her again in his second life during her journey trying to see the outside world. He decided to help her and they ended up with a close friendship. Out of everyone, Mary probably is the one closest to Cale. She also is the only one who he talked about his regression and his first life with.

Clopeh Sekka

Cale hates Clopeh. He can never forgive the Guardian Knight who had attacked his home and family in his first life. But Cale also can not forget about the Clopeh who has saved Mary and Cale, a Clopeh who for some reason, treasures Mary a lot. In the end, as long as Clopeh swears on his life to protect Mary, Cale will tolerate him.

God of Mystery

Due to a deal between the God of Mystery and the God of [REDACTED], Cale is currently working as a temporary assistant for her. He finds her company rather pleasant despite all the work he has to do.

TRIVIA

Cale only reached the level of a Swordmaster after his regression.

He is an excellent actor and schemer.

He is an Immortal.

He enjoys making tea, a habit he picked up from Alberu.

He actually is quite scared of Choi Han.

He likes all kinds of luxury, always wanting the best of the best, especially for food and clothes.

He usually carries a golden pocket watch. The pocket watch is a Divine Item of God of [REDACTED] that he uses to communicate with the said God.

He adopts a lot of modern slang after spending time working for the God of Mystery.

The Joy of the Paragon

Alya Cesaire has never doubted doing the right thing was its own reward. She grew up with the tales of heroes in her ears and their lessons in her heart.

She didn't need to put on a cape to be a hero. Even within her family she shone, grabbing the 'middle child' role with both hands and making the most of it. With two parents working long hours, a big sister more suited towards violence than domestication, and not one bit two little sisters, Alya took on the role of 'mom' because it needed to be done. She didn't do it for attention or praise. She did it because it made her family stronger and happier.

Reporting was a means for Alya to help those with powers better do their part. Majestia might be able to stand easily against any threat, but she only had two eyes to watch for crime. For all his her cunning detective work Night Owl was only one man woman. By ferreting out evil wherever it might lurk, even a as a civilian Alya might make a difference.

And then she moved to Paris. And then Ladybug Arose. And then a chance meeting. And now Testudine can protect the innocent, both behind and in front of the mask.

It is important how each hero came to their powers:

Marinette was Chosen for potential.

Nino was called on in a time of need.

Chloé grabbed power with both hands.

Adrien was gifted power because he was the one in need.

Alya uniquely was given power to help her be the hero she already was. She would have faced down Darkblade's soldiers, armed with nothing but a rock and the knowledge that Jade Turtle couldn't protect himself, not because she thought she fould win but because it was the right thing to do.

Some writers bemoan Paragons as boring. Those writers suck. The role of Paragon is a vital one. They remind us that good is worth doing for its own sake. Helping others isn't a burden, it's a fulfillment. Heroics isn't about grief, it is about joy. Fighting evil isn't about winning, it is about the fight.

In the team Testudine is the one who keeps them from being simply participants in a super powered struggle. Refrain is the gentle pragmatism of the team, Testudine is the explosive optimism. She is second only to Purrge for charging in headlong, but her goals and methods are almost diametrically opposed to the Cat holder's.

The two will become closer though, mutual antagonism bleeding quickly into frenemy rivalry and impromptu brawls.

Ladybug will benefit greatly from having Testudine on the team. 'Ladybug's got the best head on the team. Sometimes it just takes my boot on her butt to get it in the game.'

Refrain is often relieved when Testudine is around. She requires the least 'care', but her ability to get him into trouble is uncanny.

Outfox and Testudine don't get along well. There's no overt antagonism like with Purrge, but she just can't trust a hero with that many secrets about them.

I hope this little insight into Alya Cesaire from my Chloé goes back in Time AU was enjoyable to read! She's a character I love to include in fics.

I see a ton of people in the TWST fandom mischaracterize characters so here is the first of possibly multiple character profiles + analysis I have done on TWST characters to perhaps help those that want to write fics about them.

I’ll start with one character I have written a lot for (some analysis borders on theory):

Riddle Rosehearts

General Overview

- 17 year old male

- Upper or Upper Middleclass

- Raised in a two parent household with parents who have marital issues.

- Only Child

- Both Parents have achieved higher levels education and are Doctors

- Second year high school student

- Attends four year boarding school, students ranging from ages 15-20

- Born and raised in the Queendom of Roses (An Archipelagic Country with what appears to be one main island)

Source Material

- Riddle is inspired by the Queen of Hearts from the Disney adaptation of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carole, Alice In Wonderland.

- Both Lewis Carole’s original writings and the Disney adaptation portray the Queen of Hearts as a childish woman with a quick temper and a penchant for punishing people by ordering that their head be chopped off.

- It’s shown that the Queen of Hearts is unreasonable and quick to act without thinking, as she resolves all conflicts with her orders of beheading.

Beliefs and Values

- Rules-> Riddle strongly believes in the upholding of rules, any breaking of a rule, big or small, should be punished.

- Education-> Riddle places emphasis on education, people should strive for a thorough understanding of subjects and maintain high marks throughout schooling.

- Relationships-> Riddle does not have many friends, but he wishes to have more, he’s exceedingly loyal to those he deems friends, and gives them his trust. He also has a strong loyalty to his family and the values his family has instilled in him.

Childhood and Upbringing

- Riddle’s mother and father fight often, and Riddle himself is aware of this, it is unknown if these fights have been occurring all of Riddle’s life or if this is a more recent development.

- Riddle’s Mother is a controlling woman who micromanaged her son’s life up until he attended Night Raven Academy. She is known to have made schedules for his entire day, manage his education by giving him lessons when he wasn’t at school, manage his meals and calorie intake, and isolate him from children his age.

- Little is known about Riddle’s father beyond the fact he is a doctor and that he fights with Riddle’s mother, but it can be assumed he was aware of Riddle’s mothers treatment of their son, and was either unable to stop it, uncaring enough to stop it, or complicit in it.

- Riddle was seen to have very little free time as a child, the only known free time being when Riddle was delegated time for independent study.

- Riddle was not seen to have gone outside much as a child, but it can be assumed that at some point he was either signed up for horseback riding lessons or taught riding by his mother based on his skill shown in his ceremonial robes vignette. (As it’s unlikely a teen who’s also busy with being a Housewarden and classes would be at a skill level high enough to impress Royal knights, who have likely been riding for years, with only one year of practice)

- Due to being isolated in his early life, Riddle grew up without friends, as a child he met Trey Clover and Alchemi Alchemivich “Che’nya” Pinka, who convinced him to go outside and play with them as well as try a Strawberry tart, when caught, Riddle was taken away and berated for not listening to his mother. He also had his individual study time taken away as punishment for breaking the rules. Riddle also witnessed Trey’s parents being berated for allowing Trey to be such a bad influence on Riddle when this happened.

Behavior

- Riddle is short tempered, he’s extremely focused on his goals and extremely dedicated, when things get in the way of his goals he can easily get irritated.

- Riddle has a tendency to overreact to things, when he sees people who’re breaking the rules he gets unreasonably angry and often reacts with his unique magic “Off with your head!” which forms an ornate collar around the neck of the target which restricts the target from using magic.

- Riddle is displayed to have a compulsion or compulsion like need to follow rules, even going so far as finding ways to follow rules that seem impossible, such as figuring out how to “dry off by taking a walk in the ocean” by walking around in the Octavinelle dorm until he was dry.

- Riddle is prideful, but also aware of and working on his shortcomings, he’s shown to be shameful of his rashness and how he has harmed his classmates, but he still upholds his ideals such as pushing himself and his house to get high grades.

- Despite being strict and short tempered, Riddle is very kind and dedicated to the others in his house and and other students who ask him for aide, he exhibits this many times in dialogue lines where he offers to help people understand material they’re struggling with and instances where he shows support for his underclassmen, such as attending Ace’s basketball game when invited.

Analysis and Interpretation

- Riddle Rosehearts was raised by a controlling mother who would emotionally abuse him when he went against her rules, this instilled a deep rooted fear within him. If Riddle breaks a rule, something bad will happen. He cannot break a rule, it terrifies him to break a rule. Riddle also wants to protect those around him from this as well, since he saw how Trey and his parents were treated by his mother. Riddle enforces the harsh punishment of temporarily taking away peoples magic in order to protect them from the worse consequences of their actions and stop them from committing more offenses.

- Riddle wants to be liked by his peers. He’s not purposely trying to separate himself from them by punishing them as Housewarden nor does he necessarily think himself better than them. He wants to make friends with people, he’s only ever been able to make friends with Trey and Che’nya. He wants to be a normal kid, but he can’t, he doesn’t know how to interact with people his age and that makes it hard for him to make friends.

- Riddle could have OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)-> people with OCD have three main symptoms, Intrusive Thoughts/Obsessions, Compulsions, and Anxiety. The intrusive thoughts of someone with OCD pair with a compulsion, creating the anxiety: “If I don’t (carry out the compulsion), (Intrusive thought) will happen.” OCD is more likely to develop when someone experiences trauma or when their parents exhibit similar behaviors, and Obsessions and Compulsions usually have themes. Riddle has experienced trauma from his upbringing, watched his mother make such meticulous schedules that he had to follow, and has an apparent belief that breaking the rules will end in something bad happening, which leads to the possibility that his need to follow the rules is a theme of his compulsions, especially since he goes to extreme lengths to follow them and gets upset when others don’t.

Background: Second son of King Constantine Rys and Queen Eleanor Rys, Liam is a kind-hearted, polite and sophisticated man with impressive diplomatic skills. Though he wasn't raised to be king, he was prepared from a very young age to serve the Cordonian Crown taking etiquette lessons, politics, philosophy, learning different languages (aside from English, he's fluent in Greek, Spanish, French and Italian) and even dancing and survival skills. While growing up, he was a free-spirited kid and had more opportunities to enjoy his childhood with his friends and the Walker family than his older brother.

After his mother's tragic passing, Liam became a reserved person, taking his role in the Royal family more seriously. With time, Liam grew apart from Drake (who left to the US to go to college) and joined the Royal Air Force to please his father. A few months after, the Royal family suffered an assassination attempt. Liam developed signs of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, avoiding social interactions, having trouble sleeping, being easily frightened/startled and showing some physical symptoms of panick (sweating, nausea, trembling). Leo asked Drake to return to the palace to help Liam, both encouraging the young prince to seek therapy.

As he got better, Liam enrolled in the University of Cordonia to study History and returned to the Royal Air Force. Liam had plans to follow an academic career when Leo abdicated the throne. After Liam got his major degree, he was formally introduced as the Crown Prince and officially prepared to rule the Kingdom. Though it was a drastic change of path in his life that required many sacrifices, Liam adjusted to the life of future monarch quite fast, undeniably enjoying the perks of using the many skills he had developed over the years to make a difference as a politician.

What's his family like?

Constantine wasn't a present parent, nor a father who easily showed affection towards his sons. Liam was mostly raised by his mother and a few nanies and tutors. Eleanor constantly talked about the importance of Constantine's role as king and father not just for their family but for the entire country, which is why Liam always looked up to his father.

Eleanor was a loving mother to him and his brother, but also disciplined them when necessary. She shared her love for reading, writing and History with Liam. Her passing had an enormous impact on Liam's life and personality. He still misses her dearly and visits her whenever he can. He always takes a bouquet of jasmines to her grave on Mother's day and on her birthday.

Being six years younger than Leo, the brothers always had divergences, often teasing each other, Leo and Liam played pranks that usually led to getting both of the. in trouble while growing up. Yet, Leo always knew Liam was a better fit for the Crown and has always been a protective of his baby brother, taking the blame for himself whenever Liam did something wrong, defending his brother from malicious comments and insults, helping him during his first months as Crown Prince and teaching him self-defense and mixed martial arts. Liam looks up to his brother and fully supports the lifepath and choices his older brother makes.

Regina entered the Royal family a few years after Eleanor's passing. Despite her usual commanding presence towards her stepsons, she cares for them deeply. Liam has great respect and fondness towards Regina.

Liam doesn't have a long list of relatives he's truly close to. The only exception are the Foredales, specially Lady Daphne.

Favourite childhood memory: Playing with Drake and Maxwell around the palace, trips to the Walkers ranch and summers at Applewood Manor.

Favorite TV shows: Liam enjoys watching anything that gets his mind out of his life. He grew up watching The X-Files and Firefly with Drake and Maxwell. A friend introduced him to Death Note during his teenhood and it blew him away. Nowadays, he likes watching Stranger Things and Arcane by himself, but he often watches comedies like Friends and Parks and Recreation with Jade.

Biggest guilty pleasure: he's getting addicted to watching videos of people building things from scratch like furniture, houses or doing crafts. In any spare time he has, he will watch people building furniture out of bamboo, small cabins in the woods and intricate craftsmanship like jewelry design, intarsia and pastry sculpture.

Dog lover. He loves strolling with the family corgis. But he also likes Jade's cats and encourages his kids to have any domestic animals as long as they actually take care of them.

Early bird. But he can't deny he loves late nights with his wife.

How does he relax after a bad day?

It depends gon how bad the day was. On a not so bad day, half an hour listening to music (he has a soothing playlist on Spotify) when he needs to slow down will do. He goes horse riding or walking when he needs to clear his head. But on really tough days, he'll go to the gym to practice any sort of martial arts. Muay Thai and Krav Maga are his favorites.

He took Jade a few times when they were newlyweds (it involved a lot of begging and persuasion on her part), but there was always an aircraft pilot team on board just in case.

Lydia is the youngest of the three Corvin siblings. Her magic manifests "normally", and she begins her time at Hogwarts for her first year during Elsie's sixth, where she is sorted into Ravenclaw.

Unlike Elsie, Lydia tends to speak her mind and isn't afraid to wear her heart on her sleeve. Her mischievousness and curious behavior can cause people to mistake her for flighty, but she is very mentally rigid - when she's set on something, there is no convincing her otherwise.

Lydia doesn't do well with being scolded by authority figures and will shut down if she senses conflict. However, she very much knows what she can get away with and may subtly push depending on who is chastising her.

Even though her older sister tends to parent her, she's very supportive of Elsie and wishes only to see her sister happy - unfortunately, sometimes to her own detriment.

Freedom is intoxicating. Sidestep plastered all over the press; people love the allure of a mystery. A vigilante good enough to work side by side with the Rangers, an underdog to root for. But she is only celebrated as long as she wears the mask, only human as long as she plays along.

If she suffers and bleeds enough for the people will she finally be worthy of their acceptance? When she saves their lives, over and over, doesn't that make her deserving of her own? The world is a messy and complicated place, beautiful and ugly in ways Vivian hadn't anticipated. People are too. Sidestep wanted to be human, believed she could be, believed society would accept her once she was. She was a hero and a martyr. Most of all, Sidestep was a fool. Vivian isn't human, she never was and never will be, and damn the world that abandoned her because of it. She would never be good enough for them despite everything. She wasn't worth saving. He didn't come. No one came.

How could she have been so naive to think that she was the problem. The world hated her: parasite, cuckoo, but she was only ever what they made her. Heartbreak wanted her dead and she obliged -though she didn't stay that way. Why was she trying so hard for people that didn't even know her, know what she was? People who would have gladly pushed her out that window themselves if they found out! Vivian is a mirror, it's not her fault if they see a monster. They will rue every moment they let her live because human Vivian is not but alive she very much still is.

Sidestep, on the other hand, is dead, but she still thrives in the hearts and minds of the people. No, she can't just be dead, she has to die, and Vivian will be the one to kill her. That good natured smarm and charming bashfulness, that humble underdog spirit, that flattering reflection made of hope, ignorance, and The American Dream that people so loved will be shattered to make room for something new, an ugly truth.

Sidestep is a vengeful corpse climbing out of the coffin to interrupt her own funeral and point an accusatory finger at the crowd. Sidestep was who people looked to when they couldn't look at themselves, but she won't let them look away now. Sidestep might as well have been a ReGene: artificial and owned, a weapon, a sacrificial lamb.

Sidestep is dead, long live Sidestep.

If the world can't accept what she is, Vivian cannot accept this world. She is free from The Farm, she is powerful enough to flout the law, and she has enough money to provide whatever material comforts she desires, but it's all feels hollow knowing she's still property. So many of the people around her are. Do the Rangers know they're no better than her, tools of a different kind, but tools none the less?

If Vivian could show the people their strings and chains, puppets and prisoners, would they rise up with her? Are ReGenes so different from humans? Are villains so different from heroes? Vivian died and was reborn, so too has Los Diablos. Maybe they can both change for the better.

Better. Is this better? A funhouse full of selves, distortions so familiar Vivian doesn't remember what she looks like anymore. Breaking Sidestep just left her with shattered glass revealing angles she didn't know she had. Does she need these illusions or is she just scared of what she'll see when she finally looks herself in the eye? Maybe she doesn't want to liberate Los Diablos, maybe she just wants to be the one pulling the strings. She may long for vulnerability, but Vivian would never allow herself that until there was no one left that could touch her. Is this about clarity or is this about control? Control is weapon and defense, if she controls the people she wields their power.

Introspection can come later, what is important now is that the truth must come out, things can't go on like this. She can't allow The Farm to operate unopposed, can't allow Ortega to be killed for biting the hand that feeds him, can't allow Chen to be replaced piece by piece until nothing is left, can't allow Argent to go down the path Vivian's on now, can't allow Herald to suffer the way Sidestep did. The truth is a dangerous thing, it may destroy everything she's fighting for, but it may also destroy everything she's fighting against with it. While the people aren't free neither is Vivian, even if they never accept her.

People are Vivian's weakness, after all, and her strength. They don't know how much she is them. She is changed by them, their thoughts become her actions, that's who Sidestep has always been. They don't realize how much they are her, repeating her words, seeing her vision, sometimes without even needing her powers.

The city's mind a mental music of the spheres that she dances along to. It's something she and Los Diablos have always shared, but this time Vivian is ready to lead.
