Sensing very strong homoerotic tendencies from Fantômas (1964) between Commissaire Juve (bottom left) and Fandor (bottom right)
#ok but hear me out#Fandor and Fantomas are played by the same actor#and Juve spends the entierety of the three (3) movies chasing after Fantomas#so technically he's chasing after Fandor as well#louis de funes#jean marais#fantomas

I’ve been watching some Louis Feuillade (<- French director, known mostly for his 1910s pulp crime films)
#louis feuillade#Les vampires 1915#fantômas 1913#fantômas#judex 1916#judex#my art#all of these have been fun! I do think Édouard Mathé should have played fandor in fantômas#doodled this because I’ve been having trouble finding fanart of my fav weird old films. be the change you want to see etc etc

I'm watching Nandor Fandor and the talking mongoose, and it's wonderfully silly. Did you have as much fun playing Gef as it sounds like you did?
I suspect I did.

I just watched the first cinematic masterpiece of 2024, Hundreds of Beavers, chronicling the life of American trapper Jean Kayak, from visionary director Mike Chetnik.
Available for rent on AppleTV and Prime Video, but you can watch it free with a one week trial of indie film streaming service Fandor. The less you know going in, the better, imo, so just start the movie already.
PS - Eat your flipping heart out, The Revenant. 🦫🦫🦫

Celebrating Su Friedrich!
"By candidly confronting personal struggles, Friedrich’s films invite reflections on broader, often universal concerns."
Read more in Fandor's Su Friedrich in the Swamp of Images.
I Cannot Tell You How I Feel (2016)
"Its candidness about dealing with aging relatives is an engaging antidote to the usual myths, cartoons, and melodramas about aging so common in movies and on television. As participant director and narrator (in both voice-over and visual text), Friedrich is by turns wryly good-humored, self-involved, and self-aware, pained, frustrated, and compassionate." — Scott MacDonald
Sink or Swim (1990) Sink or Swim was chosen in 2015 to be included in the National Film Registry. David Sterrit, The Chronicle Review wrote of the film, “I regard it as one of the most intellectually lucid, aesthetically accessible, and emotionally moving avant-garde films produced in the past twenty-five years.”
The Ties That Bind (1984)
“The film is an original: a moving and courageous tribute from a child to a mother’s beleaguered memory.” — David Edelstein, The Village Voice Find out more about Friedrich's work on her website.
