“Hey,” Hinata asks you one day, as you both sit on the bed in your dorm, “have you ever been kissed?”

The sudden question startles you, causing you to raise your eyebrows at him. “Huh? What brought this on?”

He shrugs. “Eh, Atsumu talks about kissing sometimes. I’ve never done it.”

“I haven’t either.” You tell him a little quietly. It’s always been a spot of insecurity with you, your lack of experience, especially since people say college is supposed to be the perfect place to experiment and have fun.

You haven’t done any of that, and the only person you hang out with regularly is Hinata, and he’s not too keen on partying either.

“Maybe we should.” Hinata says, a bit obviously.

You roll your eyes. “Yeah, okay Hinata. Let me know when you find someone, and then come back and set me up too.”

He nudges you playfully. “No, I mean maybe we should. You and I. Kiss.”

Feeling like you’re dreaming, you pinch yourself a bit, then turn to him with wide eyes when you don’t wake up. “You want to…kiss each other? Why?”

“Practice.” The tone in his voice indicates that it should’ve been obvious to you, but you’re still not convinced you haven’t been asleep or in a coma.

But on the other hand, he’s right. And practice is good, because it’s be embarrassing if you didn’t know how to kiss. No other reason.

You set your textbook down and turn your body towards Hinata. “Okay. You’re right. Lay one on me.”

“Me? Why don’t you do it?”

“It was your idea.”

“But I don’t know how!”

“Neither do I!”

It takes about ten minutes of bickering and researching on the internet for the two of you to figure out what to do. It makes you feel a little silly, looking up how to kiss, but Hinata is looking at you with a fierce determination in his eyes that only rivals the look he puts on when he’s playing volleyball.

“Okay, are you ready?”

He doesn’t really give a response, as it were, he just…kisses you. He’s not bad, if you were being honest, not that you have anything to compare it to.

The two of you kiss for what feels like ages and when you pull away, Hinata’s face is flushed.

“I think we need to do it again.” He tells you. And you agree.

It becomes a thing. The kissing. Every time Hinata is over, he always wants to kiss. And you don’t argue! You like it, you do. But it’s also been stirring up feelings in your chest.

You know you like Hinata, you’ve always liked Hinata. You’re of the opinion that someone would have to be an idiot to not like him. But the fact remains that you don’t know how much longer you can take all of the kissing without shaking him so hard his brain falls out of his ears.

Like now. You’re kissing and his hands are sitting very politely on your waist, occasionally twitching and causing you to laugh because it tickles. Your hands are on his cheeks. The swelling in your chest is almost painful.

You pull away from the kiss abruptly and Hinata frowns. “What’s wrong?”

“I understand for the first time. Maybe the second and third, too. But it’s been weeks since then, and we kiss almost every day.”

“I thought that’s what people who date do.” He tells you, a bit confused.

“What do you mean by that, Hinata?” You feel a bit dizzy.

“Aren’t we?”

“No! I don’t think so?”

You think back to every interaction you’ve had over the past few weeks, and more and more the pieces start clicking.

“Oh my god.”

Hinata hands you some water.

You take it, still a bit thrown. You’ve been dating him for ages.

“Can we kiss now?”

He’s lucky you don’t throw him out the window.

You met Sakusa a few years back and while he’s definitely an acquired taste, you didn’t think he was as bad as everyone made him out to be. The two of you became roommates, and then it transitioned into dating naturally, which always raises eyebrows.

People always ask you how you and Sakusa could live together even though the two of you are polar opposites. Most of the time it’s really code for “but you’re so nice, and he’s such an asshole.” The truth is, so are you. You’re just more subtle about it. Besides, even if you weren’t, you love him.

Even now as he leaves you to fend for yourself while you have the flu. You’re whining as he packs a bag, nose stuffed and coughing.

“Kiyoomi.” You wheeze out.

“I love you,” he starts, “but if I get sick….”

You wince as you remember the last time he got sick because of you. Atsumu and Hinata banging on your door, demanding Sakusa’s presence. And they did that until he was well enough to go to practice again. You also remember how miserable Sakusa was, and you definitely don’t want to put him through that again.

You roll your eyes playfully. “I understand. I’ll just be here alone, wallowing in our bed.”

That earns you a small laugh, before he tells you he loves you and walks out of the door. You miss him the moment the apartment is quiet. You’ve always been clingy when you’re sick, a downside to when Sakusa doesn’t like being near sick people. He cares in his own way, you know that. When you’re sick its constant texts, asking how you are, if he can send Bokuto to the store to get whatever you need.

You sigh a little before rolling over and going back to sleep. The sooner you can get better, the sooner your boyfriend can come back home. The bed smells like him, like mint, amber and lemon. You snuggle deeper into it, sleep greeting you soon after.

A day later, you hear the frantic knock that can only belong to Hinata so, with a groan, you shakily walk through the door to greet your favorite member of the Black Jackals.

He beams at you from underneath his mask, hands so full with tupperware containers you wonder how he even managed to knock on the door.

Hinata greets you brightly. “Hope you feel better soon! Omi stayed up a little late making all this food for you. He asked me to bring it by.”

Your eyes well with tears. “He did? Tell him thank you for me.”

As you take the containers, Hinata beams again. “I will! Make sure to get lots of rest.”

You bid him farewell and take out your phone, sending Sakusa a picture of you and the mountain of tupperware he made his younger teammate bring.

He messages back with a simple: “you look gross” which is then followed back with a heart emoji.

You roll your eyes. What a loser( your loser). You send back an I love you.

A/N: This is maybe the second time I've posted a post like this. My first one was about Haikyuu and a Hispanic partner. Check it out if you'd like :) Anyway though, I've had this in my mind for so long and it's been in my drafts for so long. I just was a bit self conscious about posting it. It was inspired by the song "Bombs on Monday Morning" by Melanie Martinez because I've been obsessing over her for some reason. It's meant to be the ending of one of the stories I'm writing. If you'd like to hear about it, send me an ask. I will say, I still don't have a character for the story. Let me know, if you'd like, who you think would be the best suited for this. It can be from any fandom but I tagged the ones that I have been more in touch with. I hope you enjoy 🩵

Third Person P.O.V.

C/N was on their way to the hospital as they had made it a routine since that day. Ever since they met Y/N when visiting a sick family member, it just became something they needed to do everyday. They stumbled into her on the way to the room and he was thankful for that day. Even for being in there because of their condition, they were always so bright, like a ray of sunshine. Even after their sick family member had gotten better, they still went to visit Y/N.

Flashback

As C/N walked into the hospital with a small gift, they had asked for the floor level of their sick relative. They had taken the elevator up until they heard the ‘ding!, signaling their arrival to the preferred floor. As they were on their way out, they bumped into someone and stumbled back a bit. Just as they were about to say something, their eyes met Y/N’s eyes. A beautiful shade of E/C that could persuade anyone into their wishes. Just as they were about to speak, Y/N beat them to it.

“Oh, sorry. I didn’t mean to bump into you. Did I hurt you or anything?” Y/N had asked as they looked at C/N.

“Oh, um, no. You’re good. I shouldn’t have come out so quickly. So, I’m sorry.” C/N replied and Y/N smiled softly. Just as they were about to enter the elevator, a nurse came rushing around the corner and sighed softly.

“Y/N! You know you can’t just bolt out of the room like that! Come on now. You have your treatment soon and you can’t consume anything. It will affect the results.” The nurse had said and Y/N sighed softly. They nodded before turning back to C/N.

“Sorry again for bumping into you. See ya.” Y/N said before walking towards the nurse and walked with her back to their room. That was the first time C/N ever felt any sort of emotion towards anyone that they didn’t consider family, yet.

Flashback Over

‘Bombs are falling. On Monday morning. Waiting for the news together. An explosion, any moment. You make moments last forever and ever. (You make moments last forever)’

It was Monday morning when C/N was walking into the hospital with Y/N’s favorite flowers, F/F, as they knew the ones from a few visits ago would be wilted by now. As soon as they walked into the hospital, however, they felt a different kind of atmosphere. It was almost like something was wrong. The nurse at the front desk gave them a pitiful look but C/N brushed it off. They went up to Y/N’s room, number 501  and knocked on the door. They didn’t hear anything which was odd to them. Knocking again and no answer, they walked in to find no one in the bed. The room was completely bare of Y/N’s things. They had looked around the room and didn’t find anything. Walking back out with the flowers still in hand, they found Y/N’s doctor, who recognized C/N.

“Oh, C/N? What are you doing here?” The doctor asked as she looked at them.

“I came to see Y/N. Did they move rooms?” C/N asked and the doctor gave them an awkward look.

“No, not exactly. I thought their family would’ve told you this…” The doctor said which made C/N more confused.

“Told me what? Wait, did Y/N’s treatment work?! They got better, right?! That’s the only reason they wouldn’t be here! Oh god, I better go see their family! See ya doc!” C/N said with excitement. They rushed out of the hospital without letting the doctor tell them what was actually wrong. They ran as fast as they could to Y/N’s home to see them. On their way, they couldn’t help but remember the time they had met Y/N’s family.

Flashback

C/N and Y/N were too lost in their conversation to realize the two adults stood in the doorway. A throat was cleared and both Y/N and C/N looked over with a faint red tint in their cheeks.

“Mom, dad? I thought you guys were coming later?” Y/N said as they awkwardly scratched the back of their head.

“We were but I was able to get off work early and your dad’s appointment finished sooner than he anticipated. So, we came to surprise you with some lunch. Who’s your friend?” Y/N’s mother asked.

“Oh, well, remember that day I ran into someone just before getting onto the elevator. This is them. Mom, dad, this is C/N. C/N these are my parents.” Y/N said softly with a small smile. C/N stood up and held their hand out to them.

“It’s nice to meet you, Mr. and Mrs. L/N. Y/N is such a lovely person. They are so kind and sweet. I’m so glad I met them.” C/N said with a blush on their cheeks, causing Y/N to blush and their parents to chuckle softly.

“Would you like to join us for lunch? We usually eat in the cafeteria of the hospital.” Y/N’s mother said and C/N’s eyes widened a little.

“Are you sure? I don’t want to disrupt any sort of tradition you guys do or anything of that sort.” C/N said and their parents shook their heads.

“No it’s okay, hun. Come on. Let’s go before lunch is over.” Y/N’s mother said as they walked out of the room. C/N looked back at Y/N who got out of their bed and smiled.

“At least they like you. Now come on. Let’s go.” Y/N said before taking C/N’s hand and dragging them along.

Flashback Over

‘Never thought that something. Something so tragic. Could ever happen to. Our peaceful, little perfect family’

C/N reached Y/N’s home and knocked on the door with excitement. When Y/N’s mom answered, she was shocked to see C/N. Her eyes were red and puffy which confused C/N.

“Mrs. L/N, where’s Y/N? She’s not in the hospital. So, her treatment must’ve worked right? She’s home, right?” C/N said and Y/N’s father appeared in the doorway too. He also had puffy red eyes which confused C/N more. “Mrs. L/N, Mr. L/N…What’s going on?”

“Why don’t you come inside dear?” Y/N’s mother said softly as they both stepped aside and let C/N inside. C/N was confused but walked in anyway. They led them to the living room and sat them down on the couch.

“I thought the doctor might have told you but it seems like she didn’t. So…You know the disease that Y/N had, right?” Y/N’s father said softly and C/N nodded.

“Yeah, Huntington’s Disease. They were doing a research study and trial on Y/N for a treatment…” C/N said as they looked at Y/N’s parents. Both parents nodded and sighed softly. Tears filled their eyes as they tried to keep a calm head.

“Well…T-The treatment was helping for some time as you know. But then…T-The treatment started to not work anymore and her condition was getting worse. The day we told you to not show up anymore…It wasn’t because we don’t like you, dear. We like you very much. You’re like our own child to us. It’s because…They started to lose their thinking abilities and their movements were starting to get out of control. They were starting to have seizures again and they were starting to act out irrationally. They were getting worse. A-And then…They were starting to not be able to speak or swallow without help…Eventually, they weren’t able to process anything as well as they could and slowly, their heart rate was dropping…They..They flatlined this morning…I’m sorry, C/N…Y/N passed away this morning…” Y/N’s mother said through her tears. Y/N’s father rubbed their back as he tried to hold back his own tears.

It felt as if C/N’s world came crashing down. The person they cared for the most, the one they loved and cherished dearly had passed away and they didn’t get a chance to say goodbye. C/N’s tears slowly cascaded down their face as the information had processed. A sob escaped past their lips until they couldn’t stop them anymore. Y/N’s parents went over to C/N and held them tightly. For several minutes, C/N had cried into Y/N’s parents arms until they had managed to calm down. Y/N’s parents informed them of the funeral and that they would like for them to join. C/N agreed and left after some time to their home.

Three Years Later

‘I promise, Promise to love you’

Walking down the flat grass pathway, C/N held a small bouquet of flowers until they reached the spot they were looking for. It was Monday morning, the same day that everything changed for C/N. They stood in front of the headstone and stared at it for some time. Squatting down, they changed the flowers in the small flower holder next to the stone. They sighed as they sat down and prayed quietly for a few minutes. C/N opened their eyes and stared at the headstone. “L/N Family Grave”. C/N felt tears fall down their cheeks and they tried to calm them down.

“I’m sorry…I didn’t mean to cry Y/N…I just…You’re the first person I’ve ever lost that I can’t get over…I wish we had more time together. I really miss you. I know you’re probably thinking that I can just find someone else but…I can’t…I don’t think I’ll ever be able to move on…I never got the chance to tell you…I love you, Y/N and I won’t ever stop even though you are gone.” C/N said as they wiped their tears away. A small breeze brushed through their hair as they looked down to try and stop their tears. They felt a sudden small pressure on their head and looked up. They squinted their eyes as a bright light was in front of them. They gasped softly as they saw how it looked as if it was the spirit of Y/N.

“I love you too, C/N…But you need to move on. I wish we met before I had my condition too…But I promise…There will be better people than me. I’ll always hold you deep in my heart just like you do to me…Bye bye, C/N. I love you…” Y/N said softly before the bright light disappeared and C/N had more tears streaming down their cheeks. They sobbed softly for a few minutes before taking a deep breath as they stared down at the ground.

“Pinky promise. I'll still love your garden. Even with no flowers. Even with no flowers. Doctor's orders. Don't be brokenhearted. Time will still be ours. Time will still be ours…” C/N said softly as they remembered the song that Y/N always listened to. Maybe it was their way of telling C/N that they didn’t want C/N to be brokenhearted because no matter what, the time they had was still theirs. And they would always be together.

You’re the only person that can comfort Bokuto after he’s lost a match, something that just adds to the fact that he’s in love with you.

Bokuto is always tired after a long volleyball match, the adrenaline finally wearing off, leaving him a sweaty, exhausted mess. Luckily, every time a match ended, he had you to look forward to. You are always there after every match. Ready to congratulate him even if he'd lost.

Like right now, you stand by the gym doors, arms open and a smile on your face. Just seeing that smile fills him with energy. He walks into your waiting arms and you envelope him in a warm hug.

You were one of his best friends and had been with him through it all. Bokuto wondered what he would do without you. He wouldn’t be in love with you, that’s for sure.

"Bokuto," you say to him, hugging him tighter, "you did so good."

Bokuto buries his face into your neck. "But I lost. How can I be a good Captain if we keep losing?"

You run your fingers through his hair. "You're a good Captain. You always try your hardest even when you're exhausted, and even if you didn't win this match, there's always the next one."

He hated relying on you for comfort. He didn't want to make his problems yours, but maybe just for tonight, he would be selfish.

He whispers your name, still in your comforting grip. "Can I come over?"

You nod, finally letting him go. "Of course, but I won't let you get into my car all sweaty."

Bokuto cracks a small smile before quickly rushing to the locker room to change.

The drive to your apartment was silent, save for the radio, but not awkwardly so. It was a content silence and Bokuto wasn't willing to break that. He just loved being in your company, loved to watch your facial expressions as a song you liked came on or when something inconvenienced your driving.

It was nice being with you. And for a second, it was almost like he could ignore the feelings he had for you and pretend that he felt so normal about you. He’d hold his feelings for you back before he’d ever make you uncomfortable.

When you pull into your driveway, you turn to him and smile. "I hope you're not too tired from your game, I was hoping we could watch something together. Or just hang out.”

Bokuto was never too tired for you. "Don't worry! I'm still full of energy!"

You laugh and get out of the car. "Okay then, sounds good."

He walks up with you to your door and then steps inside. Your house was always so quiet, he liked it. Most quiet places made him itchy, but he felt relaxed here.

"You know where my room is, we can sit in there," you tell him as you walk to the kitchen, "I'm just grabbing us something to snack on."

After telling you he understands, he makes his way into your room, taking it all in for the millionth time. It was cluttered, but not in a messy way. Papers were spread out on your desk, a few pencils laying over them. Pictures hung on the wall and book upon book lay neatly on a shelf near your bed. It fit you, in a way.

"Alright, I got you a water and we can share this bowl of grapes." You say, entering the room after a short time.

"Thanks."

You grin. "Well? Take a seat."

Bokuto sits so carefully next to you on the bed, the butterflies in his stomach going wild. Butterflies is such a shitty term, they feel more like wasps.

"I'm proud of you."

He blinks owlishly at you. "Why?"

"You always try your best, even when the outcome doesn't look good. It's one of the reasons I come to your games.” You lean closer to him, he can see all the colors in your eyes like this.

Gulping shakily, he dares to hope that you feel the same way. "What's the other reason?"

"I like you. A lot."

He laughs nervously. "At least take me on a date before you take me to your room."

You turn bright red and turn away from him, clearly embarrassed. "I wasn't-Bokuto don't be mean!"

Bokuto grabs your hands and turns you towards him. "H-hey, I'm sorry. You just make me so nervous."

You look at the untouched bowl of grapes between the two of you, not meeting his now steady gaze. "I make you nervous?"

"Yeah, because I like you a lot too and I'm afraid of fucking it up."

He kisses you softly after he tells you that, taking your face gently in his hands. Bokuto could kiss you for the rest of his life and never grow tired of it.

It was a good kiss and it left him feeling warm, even after you pulled away. It was an addicting feeling, kissing you. So he does it again. And a few more times, just to be safe. Kissing you might be his new favorite thing.

"Wow." You murmur, the softest of smiles on your face. He loves the sight of it.

“I like you.” He tells you again, even though he thinks you might know that now, he wants to make sure there’s no room for error. He wants to make sure that you know, wishes he wasn’t so bad with words.

You just smile and wrap your arms around him. He breathes in your familiar scent, the one that always calms him down even when he has his worst days.

Bokuto kisses the top of your head, content. "Hey."

"Yeah?"

"Can I lay my head on your shoulder?”

You smile. "Yeah."

And that's how he fell asleep, cuddled next to you with the sound of your voice in his ear. He wants to fall asleep like this forever, if you’ll let him. Bokuto wants to be with you forever. It’s not as scary a thought as people make it out to be, it’s just something he knows without a doubt. You’re it for him.
