"All art is political"

No the fuck it's not. Art for the sake of art/decoration/love of subject, has always been the majority. Fanartists aren't drawing political cartoons. They're drawing they're favorites doing beach episodes and riding go-carts and getting fucked stupid and everything in between. Nothing about that is freaking political. Nor should it be. Fandom is an escape, not activism.

As far as representation goes: this is the most America/west centric view, istg

the things mentioned are shown, but by dint of proportionality will always be in the minority. Because people with X handicap or LGBT, are the minority in the US and EU.

Asians are 6% of the country, and less if you split it by east/west/south Asian communities. 13% of the population is Black, just under 20% Hispanic, and about 2% Native. Of course there's going to be less of them in media.

It wasn't political until people politicized it. Some of the top earning actors and comedians in the 90s were black. Some of the most popular shows had 50-90% Black casts. Children's shows with real and animated casts were diverse as all hell with race and ability differences just accepted and spoken about normally and explained in ways kids easily understood and accepted and Literally No On questioned it outside of people that were rightfully considered crazy fundies.

Then the 2010s happened and someone decided it had to be freaking highlighted and made into a big deal and all of a sudden it's an issue when before it never was.

There is a ton of media out there with Latinos and Asians and every other group you can think of. They're just in different languages. Because the world doesn't stop at American/European TV. Branch out. Show the execs you don't want an empty check box character, but actual stories like They're doing overseas. Because that's what will get things shifted, not just demanding X media needs Y type of person just because, especially not when changing the race or sex or ability of a character would actively change the character and the story because they're a whole different person and will have different history and perceptions that will by default change the narrative.

On one hand, it shouldn't be considered a political statement to include an abundance of queer people, disabled people, and/or people of color in a story; it's just representing the world as it is. On the other hand, all art is political, but that includes both works that have 90+% cishet abled white people as well as works that have an abundance of queer people, disabled people, and/or people of color. Meanwhile, the vast majority of people claiming an abundance of queer people, disabled people, and/or people of color is automatically political, while their status quo of cishet white abled people is apolitical."

If it shouldn't be considered political to include representation because that's just how the world is despite those people often being politicized, then art itself should be given the same respect and not politicized too. Someone just drawing ship art or pretty plant splatters is not political, is just people living in moment and engaging with a hobby and/or job that has existed long before any governments. Not all art is political. And yes, I know, it can be made with political intentions, and/or later interpreted through a political lens, and/or contain unlearned biases that are politicized, but it is not anymore inherently political than queer people are inherently political. You can not say that queers aren't inherently political because they just exist, then turn around and say art is inherently political when it's an inherent human activity that existed before politics even became a thing. Both things have existed and will continue to exist with or without governments and politics. Is talking about a story idea with a friend political? Is sharing bed times passed down from parent to parent political? Is making a quilt for a grandchild political? Is designing a home political? Is drawing with a stick in the dirt political? Is building sandcastles on the beach political? Is kissing a mirror with lipstick on political? Because those are all acts of art. Art isn't just drawings or writing. It is a huge medium that encompasses pretty much nearly all of human creations and/or expression

I get what you're trying to say, or at least I think I do, and it is all well intentioned and comes from a place of good faith, but that comment about art = politics is wrong and I just wanted to point that out

My all time favorite show is a chinese one. Legend of the white snake, i believe it can be found on netflix but idk if its expired since i last watched it

You could pirate it but the episodes are about 45-60 mins long

And theres a LOT of them you definitely cant binge it in a day or two

Acting in different countries are all different from each other, so it can be confusing to watch them, but it's also really refreshing to see something new. But if you can watch stuff like anime with subs then you can watch any foreign movie/show with subs. Just look for them, start asking around im sure all the people from other countries you want so badly to be represented in western media could tell you whats good to watch

Infact it would probably help alot for directors and actors in other countries to have their movies sold more in the west. Some do, but not many. But just buying one movie would benefit the people who made it and that would probably help them a lot more than harassing anime/manga authors and artists to start including darker skinned people.

Its such an indirect way to help those people. Just spend 5-20 bucks on a movie and help people more directly. Go over seas if you can. Like... Actually watch what people in other countries make lol
