Introspection: I want to break free.

Sometimes I wish my art was more expressive, livelier if you will. It's almost always clean, smooth, sharp edged. Technical, a teacher once called it. I guess that is a fitting term. I lack the freedom of just going for it, adding a splash of colour, disregarding the proper outlines for a more animated expression, being messy.

I need to be in control of every line, every brush stroke, every spot of colour. It's like creating with a safety net.

I think it says a lot about me and I'm not sure I like it. I do like my style, I do like experiments with new themes and materials and for most of my recent works I can say that I like what I created. And yet I admire artists like @wisesnail @cliopadra @mistysblueboxstuff and so many more for the freedom in their works. They know their stuff and have fun with it.

The same goes for abstract art. I simply can't come up with motifs that are not based on the physical plane. If I can't see it out there i can't imagine it. It doesn't feel right or artsy, more like doodling along, passing time and a way to occupy my idle hands. I can't comprehend it either. Although I could stare at a Pollock for a long time, many abstract works don't really "do it" for me. They leave me cold.

Sometimes, it confuses me a bit. Why can't I let go, why does it make me uncomfortable if it isn't "perfect", why is it so hard to free fall into art although I've been drawing since I can hold a pen. Why am I still not even close to where I believe I should be after all this time.

And why does it matter anyway? Why do I compare myself? Do I actively work on my skills or am I just bumbling along? I know some of those answers, I can guess a few more.

In the end, I just adore looking at art. I marvel at the skills and hard work artists put into their art. I admire fan artists (that includes writers , cosplayers and crafters as well) for their incredible output while maintaining a whole different life outside fandom. The dedication and attention to detail always gets me.

I hope one day I'll be free. Either to enjoy and accept the art I do as good in its own right or to add that extra splash of colour, that special dynamic to it. Preferably both.

I found someone else who draws Goblin Bane, @fat-tasty-krogan. XD How is it possible to take a cartoon character and make him even MORE of a toon? Somehow the OP did it. He's 70% legs in the left image. I'm digging the red jacket. You know, I think he looks good in red.

2024 – An incredible year! It’s new for me to have enough for an art recap, let alone an animated one. For years I'd been in “survival mode”, too burnt out to create anything unless it was for work.

Since the latter end of 2023 and all of 2024 I've been kinder to myself. I understand how I work better, figured out what works for me more. Embraced more of what I enjoy and found that spark again. I'd like to build on all I've learned, but if I fall short that’s okay too.

Thank you to everyone who’s found my little corner of the internet and showed immense love and support. I’m glad so many have enjoyed my lil animations and really appreciate everything so far. Unintentionally made this a Sonic-focused account, but I love all the fun and friends that’s brought along. Gives me an immense boost to keep going into next year, so I hope y’all stick around a bit longer!
