"MONSTER MAGNET" 6/18/02 11" x 17" #offsetprint! . WOW...today marks the 20th anniversary of the @monstermagnetofficial poster I designed...way back in 2002! . #MonsterMagnet was one of my favorite bands growing up! What set them apart from other bands in the #postgrunge #stonerrock genre was that they sang about comic books and drugs! And they also took the #satanicpanic paranoia and had fun with it! . I designed the poster with that in mind. A lady with a tab of acid (with the face of the singer of MM) on her tongue and cosmic #kirbycrackle popping off in the background. . I remember going to this show at the @thetroubadour. Living in LA in the early 2000s was an exciting time for me and I was one of the regular "poster guys" for #theTroubadour! . I was so stoked to see Monster Magnet but also the amazing @Brant_Bjork & the Operators(who was a founding member of #KYUSS) and the #BunringBrides. They were touring to support their album #FallofthePlasticEmpire which you should check out! . After the show, I was outside of the venue where #DaveWyndorf and @EdMundell (who was also in @the_atomic_bitchwax !!!) were hanging out so I introduced myself and showed them the poster I designed for their show. They were very cool and even signed a poster for me. I got to meet one of my favorite bands and they were actually very nice. I was about to head home when some guy ran up to me and said "did you see this poster?!" I thought he was fucking with me. I told him that I designed it. And then I realized the guy I was talking to was #KeithMorris of @CircleJerksband!!! He was doing A&R for V2 records (I think) and was there to support the Burning Brides. Once I got over my disbelief I talked to Keith for a bit and invited him to an art show I was going to be in later that week. . To my shock, Keith actually showed up at the art show!!! Friends that were there kept asking "How do you know him?!" I felt pretty cool that night. . So that's my memory of designing this poster for Monster Magnet! . . Burning Brides ” Fall of the Plastic Empire” LP. Got hip to these guys after I found a fully autographed original issue of this on CD in the dollar bin of this record store I worked at, about a week after they’d come thru town in 2001. Took me a long time to track this down. Solid stoner rock. You can see my hands in the female skull. Stupid shrink wrap.
