cpn time: yibo’s new songs 🎧
here we are, two songs and a bunch of short video clips later, but this post will be more about the lyrics. if you haven’t listened to the tracks then please enjoy bystander and everything is lovely first before anything else. i’m so thankful that wyb has kept his promise to fans of bringing us a new song every year and also performing it during nye. he may not be the most obvious when it comes to appreciating his fans but this is the best example of his commitment to sharing himself to fans and treating us.
i will start with some minor clues before we get into the lyrics and all that clowning interpretation. 🙇♀️
1. The first 3 photos that yibo-official released as soon as it turned 12:00, one of them was color pink, or you can say, very light shade of red. His photos released before had a more solid red like that from a traffic light but this one leans more towards pink.
A very nice choice of color knowing how he relates pink to being the color of love and and all the other symbolism we attached to it.
& when yibo posted it, he placed the pink one in the middle vs yibo-official’s who placed it on the right.
2. Same choice of words between their studios, especially with reference to the gap of time. We are definitely looking closer than a normal fan would when it comes to their studio’s captions, edits, posting time etc and to a normal fan this would just fly over their head. but the amount of coincidence between the two is too much!
3. QQ released parts of the lyrics and this one, the chorus of everything is lovely ( up to the part talking about love of coming home ), the word love was mentioned 23 times. Love Zhan. I mean, we all know this boys loves 2 and 3 😂😂😂
4. The timing of release for their projects this day. Another example of how they don’t overlap with the day or time. XZ’s marie claire was between 10-12 and then WYB stuff of course started coming out at 12:00. this follows their pattern 👀
5. I really like what this bxg discovered, the way everything is lovely was written, if you turn in upside down it may read wyb loves xz. 🤯🤯🤯
for those of us who have been subjected to xz’s artwork and the little things he hides, this should be believable to you. he is known to do these things, even without the cpn intention.
==================
BYSTANDER
I gotta say, i’m leaning more towards this song, i didn’t expect it! I just love how it sounds and i’m with those who felt nostalgic while listening to it. it seems familiar and brand new at the same time. The melody of the first few lines got me thinking of words ( bee gees ) and the guitar/drums played are excellent too! I hope he sings this with a live band please! 🙏🏼
I often watch, listen and feel like reaching out to touch.
Holding a handful of seawater to see it’s dreamlike color.
this is more of a song ( atleast to me ) that speaks of who WYB is as a person. a bystander/spectator/onlooker. he is someone who observes people and keeps quiet first before engaging. but that doesn’t mean he is indifferent, in this song, he talks about admiring the things around him.
i’m also thinking of a wish to be a bystander. XZ/WYB repeatedly said that the super power they wish to have in invisibility so they just roam around without people noticing them. in a way, it’s wyb’s ( and by extension xz ) wish to be able to do this.
Embrace all the joys and sorrows of life. Listen to the plucked feathers speak, wings aiming for the vast sky.
Watch a fallen leaf repeating until the four seasons bring it back to the branch. I cannot see another galaxy but believe in me in a more distant place.
i see this as basically yibo and zz’s view in life, they are willing to go through the good and bad. their lives may seem ideal because they are celebrities but it’s far from that so they just have to focus on the good.
Don’t ask me what i’m looking for, let life pass through.
it’s him just wanting to be left alone, to allow him to go through his life without people watching his every move. or maybe there isn’t anything he is looking for or aiming for, he is just enjoying and going through his life. This line speaks to me so much! There’s really no need to be constantly trying to achieve things and be exhausted by the end of it. Sometimes, it’s okay to sit back and enjoy the simple things.
EVERYTHING IS LOVELY
I have discussed this song before, especially the chorus that covers a lot of the CPNs. I feel the same way about my interpretation of those lines even after learning the lyrics of the whole song.
My hands, accustomed to patting my head, opening up the memory of the river and pond. There are always a few good friends by the side.
Listening to the cicadas, watching the fishing boats.
WYB who likes to pat his head as an example 😂 so this is really from his POV and a more personal touch to start this song.
Listening to the cicadas and watching the fishing boat? This paints a picture of them during CQL shoot and hanging out.
I’m cackling tho at bxg interpretation of the lines that talk about river & ponds and then him having friends on the side. So who are the friends by that pod? Turtles? LOL. 😂😂😂😂
How to distinguish between people, whether post-00s are young or very mature.
This is so WYB. Reminding us of when he always made a point to say that GG looks so young or that they have no age gap 🥹🥹🥹
Under the mud, lotus roots finally grown. Please, lotus flowers do not look back.
Lotus roots/ Lotus flowers. What a peculiar choice to include in the song. Maybe there is some deeper explanation here that has something to do with culture or what but as a clown, our minds went to CQL.
It’s a part of the story and who can forget that behind the scenes of WYB pulling out those lotus seeds for XZ? 🙃
I tightly hold on to the people i once lost.
I like the way some people have interpreted this line. If what we think is true, that they lost each other at some point after the cql shoot then this line makes sense. They had some time apart after that shoot and XZ went to Japan to clear his head. The people around them also encouraged to take this time away from each other and get out of character. But they still found their way back as XZ/WYB. 🤍
The main thing in this song tho is— everything is lovely because you (xz) are in everything. 😭😭😭😭
-END.

I'm in a transitional moment right now. We're on the brink of fall. My kid is starting kindergarten, and I spent enough years in academia that fall always feels like the start of the year anyway. New routines and rhythms are taking shape. And I'm gathering my strength to make some difficult, necessary changes in how I approach my life- resolving to actively use this transition to improve things, rather than just hoping that new circumstances will magically make everything better. (A tempting thought!)
I'm rearranging my studio for more light, more flat surfaces to spread out on, and easier cleaning. I'm organizing my deep hoard of materials. I'm scheming and working for next year's garden as I enjoy the last blooms of this year's. I'm updating my website and finally adding a shop. I'm thinking about scary things like career paths and mentoring and sales and coursework. I'm thinking about self-accountability, about what it would take to really challenge my stubborn fears and resentments about trying and taking risks, about what it means to really appreciate and take advantage of the rather privileged life I've stumbled into.
I'm thinking about growth and stagnation, trauma and agency, memory and heritage. How we are like the forest floor, seeming whole at a distance, but formed of the tiny fragments of our past and our environments, still identifiable if you look closely enough. How beautiful that is- but most beautiful when that conglomeration becomes a new thing, a living thing, a thing that brings forth more complexity and more beauty and more life.
I'm also getting back in the habit of hiking regularly, and taking lots of photos to remind myself of what I saw that inspired me. I'm always behind on processing stuff from my "real" camera, but here are a few quick phone photos from this past week.
(From the top: A ripening Jack-in-the-Pulpit seed cluster. Interesting leaf damage. A gorgeous American Giant Millipede, in the special spot that's the only place I've ever see them. A lost wing, maybe a cicada's. A mushroom emerging from a crack in a wood railing. A hairy-looking fungus on bark. A gloriously big praying mantis. A fallen oak gall (I'm obsessed with galls) that looks like a starry sky. And two more bits of interesting leaf damage and early fall color.)

Where's Grunty Boi?
I finally write something! It's for a fandom that no one I know cares for! It's got a terrible title! Something's never change <3
AU: None Words: 687 Pairings: None. It's platonic Mikey and Grunty Boi. Warnings: None. Let me know if there is anything!
Summary: Grunty Boi missed the sponsor segment and Mikey goes looking for him.
“Okay… well, that guy’s probably not coming back any time soon…” Mikey muttered under his breath as he shut the door to the studio. The most recent look-a-like had just finished his filming session and it had left him with just a slight headache. If he had to hear that guy say his stupid catchphrase one more time, Mikey may have committed a crime live on camera – hopefully it would have been edited out, but whatever, it didn’t happen.
He took a brief look through all the footage, skimming to ensure everything had been caught when he realised. Mikey glanced around, “Where’s Grunty Boi? I know we definitely have a sponsor for this one…”
Mikey quickly looked all throughout the space, just in case Grunty Boi had simply gotten distracted playing the latest mobile game or whatever, but he was no where to be found. “That’s… mildly concerning.” Mikey said to himself, stepping out the back door.
“Is it?”
Mikey jumped upon hearing a voice down beside him. Sat on the step, hunched over was Grunty Boi, looking dejected.
“There you are. Have you been out here the whole time?” Mikey took a seat beside the grunt on the concrete step.
Grunty Boi let out a hollow laugh, “Only just realised? Nice to know someone cares…” he snarked, his words having no bite to them at all.
“I didn’t mean it like that, I just…” Mikey trailed off, unsure of how to deal with this situation. Sure, Grunty Boi had been upset and mad over the years, but never had he seen him so defeated. After a moment, Mikey tried again, “What’s going on? Why are you out here alone?”
Grunty Boi sighed, “Oh, I don’t know. Maybe I just didn’t want to be mocked, shunned and or ignored again? I may be the sponsor guy, but I do have feelings, y’know?” He shot a half-hearted withering glare in Mikey’s direction.
“I know that.”
“At least someone does…” Grunty Boi sighed again, now picking at a small leaf that’d fallen onto his knees as he sat there, “All those other guys… they all hate me. I just,” Grunty Boi paused, searching for the right words, “I’ve tried to ignore it, but it just gets to me. When everyone you work with immediately jumps to yelling at you or making fun of you, it gets to be too much.”
The pair sat in silence for a moment. Mikey was at a loss. Sure, Grunty Boi’d been in a bad mood for the last few guests, but he’d never thought it would be cause for concern. Grunty Boi seemed to shake off anything that came his way, he always seemed to be able to continue with the sponsors and then move on. Even then, it didn’t seem like it was all that common for a guest to be rude to him, but then Mikey cast his mind back over the last year and realised he was quite wrong.
“Sorry, Grunty Boi. I suppose, I just lost track of things over the past couple years…” Mikey eventually broke the silence, only to be answered with a huff from the man next to him, “How about this? I’ll try my best to get whoever comes in to be… better, I guess.”
Grunty Boi simply shrugged, “Whatever. Anything’s better than nothing…”
“Hey, c’mon. Most of these guys don’t have hardly any staying power. Look at you, you’ve been around for long enough to basically be a mascot at this point. People love you.”
Mikey’s attempt to cheer him up did bring a small smile to Grunty Boi’s face, “True, I am the best look-a-like. I even surpass the original in popularity.”
“Okay, I wouldn’t go that far.”
“Y’know what? I do feel better.” Grunty Boi stretched out his arms above his head and stood from the step finally. “I am better than all of them!”
Mikey shook his head, brushing the dirt off of his legs from the step as Grunty Boi preened in front of him. His ego was certainly another cause for headache, but Mikey could deal with this one.
--
It's short and something probably only I think is cute, but I've wanted to write something about Grunty Boi and Michael being friends for a while. No taglist bc I'm p sure anyone who was on it a) wouldn't care for this and b) barely even remember who I am anymore lmao

Chapter 3: Midnight Serenade at Sun Studio
________________________________________
Tinsley stepped out of the hotel, her heat racing. She needed to get to Graceland—the place where she had left her precious notebook. She spotted a taxi nearby and quickly hailed a cab. “To Graceland, please!” she said, her voice urgent. The driver nodded, and they sped through the streets of Memphis.
When they arrived, Tinsley’s excitement turned to dismay. The bench outside Graceland was empty. Her notebook, filled with lyrics and dreams, was nowhere in sight. She searched the area frantically, hoping it had fallen or been moved. But fate seemed to play a cruel trick—the pages remained elusive.
Suddenly, her cab pulled away, its light turned off, leaving her stranded near the Graceland mansion. She had been so engrossed in searching for her notebook that she hadn’t noticed the driver’s sudden departure. Panic surged through her veins. The bench where she had sat early this morning seemed to mock her. Tinsley scanned the area, her eyes darting from tree to tree, hoping for a glimpse of the yellow cab. But it was gone, swallowed by the Memphis streets.
She clenched her fists, determination replacing fear. The streets stretched out before her, their asphalt glistening under the moon’s feeble glow. Shadows clung to trees like forgotten memories, and the air held a chill that whispered secrets. It was the kind of night when reality blurred, and the boundary between the mundane and the mystical wavered.
Tinsley’s footsteps echoed, amplified by the silence. Every rustling leaf, every flicker of a distant streetlamp set her nerves on edge. The notebook, still missing, weighed heavily on her mind. Its pages held more than research; they held a promise—a connection to something beyond herself.
Her resolved solidified. The cab was gone, and Graceland’s enigmatic streets held no answers. She turned away from the mansion, her footsteps echoing in the quiet night. The air tasted of uncertainty, and the moon watched her with indifferent eyes.
Her hotel lays miles away, a distant beacon. Tinsley squared her shoulders, embracing the solitude. Each step felt like a pilgrimage—a journey through her own doubts and fears. the city whispered its secrets: tales of love lost, melodies fading into the ether, and dreams that lingered beyond the dawn.
The roads stretched ahead, winding through neighborhoods where porch lights flickered like distant stars. Tinsley walked, her mind unraveling like the thread of a forgotten song.
Tinsley’s legs protested with each step, and the weight of her disappointment settled on her shoulders. The city had transformed from mysterious to oppressive—the moon now a cold witness to her struggle. She needed a break.
A nearby bench beckoned, its wooden slats worn by countless souls seeking respite. Tinsley sank onto it, her breath ragged. The night sounds—distant sirens, rustling leaves—wrapped around her like a melancholy lullaby. She wondered if Elvis had ever felt this bone-deep weariness, chasing dreams through the same streets.
Tinsley’s eyes snapped open, the weariness forgotten. The moonlight revealed a silhouette—a figure shrouded in shadows, watching her from the edge of the park. Her pulse raced, and she wondered if this was another twist in her Graceland adventure.
The stranger made no move, but their presence hung heavy in the air. Tinsley’s instincts screamed danger. Her heart raced as she resumed her journey, each step echoing in the stillness. The figure remained in the shadow, neither friend nor foe. She didn’t dare look back; fear had way of twisting reality. The streets stretched endlessly, and Tinsley willed herself not to glance over her shoulder. The stranger’s presence clung to her like a haunting melody. Perhaps they were merely a curious passerby, but doubt gnawed at her resolve.
Tinsley’s breath hitched as the footsteps behind her matched her own rhythm. The stranger was no longer a mere shadow; they were real, tangible, and dangerously close. Panic surged, urging her to run, but her legs felt like lead.
Just when despair threatened to consume her, a low hum filled the air—the distant purr of an engine. Tinsley turned, her eyes widening as a blue Cadillac pulled up alongside the curb. The driver’s window rolled down, revealing a face she’d recognize anywhere; Elvis.
His eyes held a mix of curiosity and concern. “Need a ride, darlin’?” His voice was velvet and smoke, a melody that wrapped around her like a warm embrace.
Tinsley hesitated, torn between fear and awe. The stranger’s footsteps had vanished, replaced by the promise of safety in the car. She nodded, her voice barely audible. “Yes, please.”
Elvis leaned across the seat, pushing open the passenger door. “Hop in.”
As Tinsley settled into the plush leather, the Cadillac glided forward, leaving the mysterious figure behind. The night held more surprises than she’d ever imagined.
Elvis glanced at Tinsley. “You had me worried, darlin’. One minute we’re talkin’ and the next, you vanish like a ghost. What kind of adventure are you on?”
Tinsley shifted in her seat, feeling both sheepish and exhilarated. “I—I’m looking for my notebook.”
“Tell me,” Elvis said, his voice low, “what’s in that notebook of yours? Love letter? Lost songs?”
She hesitated, then confessed. “Both. And more. It’s my compass—a guide to something bigger than myself.”
He nodded, fingers tapping the steering wheel. Tinsley’s cheeks warmed, and she averted her gaze. The notebook held more than just notes. It cradled love letters, penned in moonlight and inking with longing. Letter meant for Elvis, the man beside her. She stole a glance at him, his profile etched in shadows. Did he suspect? Could he hear the echoes of her heartbeat?
Elvis hummer a tune, the melody weaving through the car. “You’re blushing, darlin’. What’s on your mind?”
She swallowed, her voice a fragile thread. “Nothing… I just… need to find my notebook.”
The Cadillac glided toward the hotel, its headlights slicing through the night. Tinsley’s anticipation grew—soon, she’d be back in the safety of her room. But Elvis slowed the car, his eyes narrowing. Outside the hotel, a sea of fans gathered, their faces illuminated by the light from inside the hotel.
“Great,” he murmured. “Looks like word got out that I’m staying here.”
Tinsley shifted in her seat, glancing at Elvis. “Do you have another place to stay?”
Elvis chuckled, the sound warm and familiar. “Well, darlin’, I’ve got a few hideaways scattered around Memphis. Places where the world quiets down and the music still plays.” He winked. “But tonight, I reckon you’ll have to stick with me. Wouldn’t want the press seeing you with me and you get into a mess.”
Elvis glided the car toward Sun Studio, away from the clamor of fans. Tinsley’s pulse quickened. Elvis parked, and stepped out of the car and came around to open her door. His hand extended towards Tinsley. The night air held a hint of magic, and she accepted his gesture, her fingers brushing against his. As he helped her out of the car, their eyes met.
Tinsley’s heart fluttered as she met Elvis’s gaze—a connection that transcended time and circumstance. But beneath the thrill, doubt whispered like a ghost. Could he truly be interested in her? After all, she was just a girl with love letters and moonlit dreams. Her inner monologue waged a silent battle. Elvis had been kind—offering her a ride—but it had to be mere courtesy.
“He’s just being nice,” she told herself. “A celebrity can’t possibly care about a girl chasing shadows.” Yet his eyes lingered, and his words carried a melody she couldn’t ignore.
“No,” she countered. “He’s Elvis. He’s untouchable.”
Elvis’s gaze held hers for a suspended moment—a question, an invitation. Then, he broke the connection, turning toward the Sun Studio’s entrance. Tinsley followed, her heart a fluttering bird.
Inside, the studio lay empty, its walls echoing forgotten harmonies. They entered the main room—a sacred space where music had been born. And there, beneath the soft glow of a lamp, sat a futon. Elvis gestured for her to sit, and as she sank onto the futon, she wondered what the plan was.
His eyes held sincerity. “Well, darlin’, it seems we’ll have to spend the night here. Hopefully the crowd at the hotel will be gone in the morning.”
Tinsley’s heart raced. She nodded, her voice a whisper. “All right.” She shifted on the futon, her fingers playing with a loose string. The studio’s silence felt both intimate and overwhelming. And there, leaning against the soundboard, was Elvis—curiosity etched into his features.
He tilted his head, studying her. “You’re a puzzle, Tinsley. What’s hidden behind those eyes?”
Tinsley blushed, her awkwardness laid bare. She wasn’t just chasing dreams, she was unraveling her own heart. Elvis’s gaze held a promise—one that whispered of moonlit nights.
Tinsley’s words tangled like guitar strings, and she blushed harder, her cheeks matching the studio’s warm hue. Elvis stayed leaning against the soundboard, his smile both amused and genuine.
“Well now,” he drawled, “ain’t that the cutest thing I’ve ever seen in a while?” He chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. “Darlin’, you’ve got the deer-in-headlights look. It’s cute.”
Tinsley’s confusion deepened. She hadn’t expected this—Elvis, the enigma, finding her awkwardness charming. She hesitated, her gaze dropping to her feet. “Elvis,” she began. “I appreciate the compliments, but I don’t think I’m cute. I’m just a girl with a notebook and a wild imagination.”
Elvis chuckled, stepping closer. “Well, darlin’, sometimes it’s the wild ones who leave the deepest footprints.” His hand brushed against hers, warm and reassuring. “And trust me, you’re more than cute—you’re intriguing.”
Tinsley’s heart fluttered and her eyes narrowed. “You say that to all the girls,” she said.
Elvis’s smile widened, his eyes twinkling with a mix of mischief and sincerity. “Now, Tinsley, if I did, wouldn’t that take away the charm?” He took a step back, giving her space, yet the electric connection lingered. “But you,” he continued, “you’ve got that spark—like a firefly in the dark, impossible to miss and foolish to ignore.”
Tinsley felt a laugh escape her, despite the nerves dancing in her stomach. “A firefly, huh?” She shook her head, amusement lacing her tone. “I suppose there are worse things to be compared to.”
“Much worse,” Elvis agreed, his voice low and smooth as velvet. “But none of them would be right for you.”
Tinsley’s breath caught in a silent, sorrowful sigh, her shoulders drooping ever so slightly under the weight of a shadow that had suddenly clouded her bright spirit. Elvis, attuned to the subtle shift in her demeanor, paused and turned to her, his brow furrowed with concern.
“Hey,” he said softly, reaching out to tilt her chin up so their eyes could meet. “What’s wrong? You went quiet all of a sudden.”
She hesitated, biting her lip, the streetlights casting long shadows that seemed to echo the darkness stirring within her. “It’s just…” Tinsley began, her voice a mere whisper, “sometimes I feel like I’m not… enough. Like no matter what I do, I can’t shake the feeling that I don’t measure up, especially… especially when it comes to how I look.”
Elvis’s expression softened, the playful spark in his eyes replaced by a gentle warmth. “Tinsley,” he murmured, “you’re more than enough. You’re extraordinary, and not just in looks but in spirit, in courage, in everything that truly matters.”
She looked up at him, searching his face for any sign of insincerity, but found none. In that moment, with his earnest gaze locked on hers, Tinsley felt a glimmer of hope—a hope that maybe she could see herself through his eyes, as someone worthy, someone beautiful, not just on the outside, but on the inside too.
A flicker of doubt crept into Tinsley’s heart, dimming the newfound hope that had just begun to blossom. She pulled back slightly, her eyes searching Elvis’s with a hint of skepticism. “You say that now, but I can’t help wondering… do you tell all the girls they’re extraordinary?”
Elvis’s face fell, and he shook his head, his hands reaching out as if to bridge the gap her doubt had created. “No, Tinsley, I don’t,” he said earnestly. “When I speak to you, it’s from the heart. You’re not ‘all the girls’ to me; you’re the one who stands out in the crowd, the one I noticed from across the room, the one I’m here with now.”
Tinsley offered nothing more than a noncommittal shrug, her eyes betraying the turmoil of emotions still swirling within her. Elvis watched her for a moment, a knowing smile playing on his lips. Without a word, he turned and reached for an old acoustic guitar that had been resting against the nearby wall.
With a gentle strum, he began to play, the soft melody floating through the air like a tender whisper. The notes were sweet and melancholic, weaving a song that seemed to speak directly to Tinsley’s soul. He sang of moonlit paths and star-crossed lovers, of finding beauty in the shadows and strength in vulnerability.
As the last chord faded into the night, Tinsley found herself wrapped in the warmth of the music, her earlier doubts washed away by the river of Elvis’s song. Right there, under the canopy of the night sky, she was serenaded into a world where fears were silenced and hearts spoke louder than words.

Release: October 26, 1984
Lyrics:
Wild, wild, boys, boys
Wild boys
Wild boys
Wild boys
Wild boys
The wild boys are calling
On their way back from the fire
In August moon's surrender to
A dust cloud on the rise
Wild boys fallen far from glory
Reckless and so hungered
On the razors edge you trail
Because there's murder by the roadside
In a sore afraid new world
They tried to break us
Looks like they'll try again
Wild boys (wild boys) never lose it
Wild boys (wild boys) never chose this way
Wild boys (wild boys) never close your eyes
Wild boys always shine
You got sirens for a welcome
There's bloodstain for your pain
And your telephone been ringing
While you're dancing in the rain
Wild boys wonder where is glory
Where is all you angels
Now the figureheads of have fell
And lovers war with arrows
Over secrets they could tell
They tried to tame you looks like they'll try again
Wild boys (wild boys) never lose it
Wild boys (wild boys) never chose this way
Wild boys (wild boys) never close your eyes
Wild boys always shine
Wild boys
Wild boys
Wild boys
Wild boys
Wild boys
Wild boys
Wild boys (wild boys) never lose it
Wild boys (wild boys) never chose this way
Wild boys (wild boys) never close your eyes
Wild boys always
Wild boys (wild boys) never lose it
Wild boys (wild boys) never chose this way
Wild boys (wild boys) never close your eyes
Wild boys always
Songwriter:

SongFacts:
Director Russell Mulcahy wanted to make a feature film based on William S. Burroughs' 1971 surrealistic, sexually-oriented novel The Wild Boys: A Book Of The Dead. According to his idea, the band should contribute a contemporary soundtrack, like Queen later for the film Highlander - There Can Only Be One. However, the Wild Boys feature film was never realized.
For the Greatest compilation, released in the fall of 1998, EMI commissioned the band to produce remixes, including two of 'The Wild Boys', which were only released on promo CDs.
'The Wild Boys' was released as a single on October 26, 1984 and is one of the band's most successful tracks.
The track was featured on the albums 'Arena' (1984), 'Decade: Greatest Hits' (1989), 'Night Versions: The Essential Duran Duran' (1998, US only), 'Greatest' (1998) and 'Strange Behaviour' (1999). The B-side, the live version of the track '(I'm Looking for) Cracks in the Pavement' was recorded at the Maple Leaf Gardens sports arena, where the video for the Duran-Duran classic 'The Reflex ' originated.
The video for the song, which was directed by Mulcahy himself, was intended to show his performances for his feature film 'The Wild Boys'. It was shot at Pinewood Studios and cost over a million dollars to produce due to the lavish set including a metal pyramid, a windmill in front of a pool of water, prosthetics, make-up effects and what was then state-of-the-art computer graphics. The clip won Best British Video at the 1985 BRIT Awards.
The band members can be seen as prisoners in a dystopian future world who are finally able to free themselves.

Fieldwork in Mt Eden
Ashley Singer, Research Image, 2024, Fieldwork: from a Mt Eden walk
My reflection:
Walking on the way to the casting foundry earlier in the week, I noticed vegetation that I remember seeing last year in my honours fieldwork- varieties of browny leaves, small seedpods and sticks. I went back to study further, taking images of what I was noticing. It's funny to me how nature arranges itself on the 'floor'.
It can be seen, in the research image above, varieties of seedpods, leaf litter, sticks, moss, grass tuffs and soil (and I'm sure many crawling bugs).
Yet, this is not waste. These fallen 'items' from the tree are key composting tools that add energy back into the soil, into the plant's root systems, into the trunk and into the plant itself.
Type of matter, ones that hold energy, are interesting to me the most. Inside themselves, this matter stores spare energy from the trees they have fallen off of, and re-digest themselves into the tree through decomposition. The capacity for this type of renewal is abundant. Life does not end at a fall. It does not stop when matter reaches the ground. Apart from being homes for bugs and bacteria, small ecosystems in themselves, this type of matter (pictured) is hopeful.
