On this day, Bataan fell. Filipino and American forces in the peninsula, after relentless attacks, surrender to the Japanese.

In commemoration of the brave actions of the men who fought in the Bataan, the Philippines marks the day as Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor).

Have you seen the bright fireball of asteroid 2024 RW1 (#CAQTDL2) that entered the Earth's atmosphere near Cagayan (Philippines) earlier today?

When the small asteroid entered the atmosphere at a very high speed, friction with the air caused it to heat up and burn, making it glow and creating a visible meteor or shooting star.

The green glow is typically due to the presence of metals like nickel and magnesium.

The short orange tail is caused by other materials burning at different temperatures.

As the asteroid exploded closer to the horizon, its orange glow became more intense due to the lower altitude.

In this denser part of the atmosphere, the remaining fragments burn cooler, shifting the color towards a reddish-orange.

Atmospheric scattering near the horizon, similar to how sunsets and sunrises turn orange, further enhances this orange color.
