My Stance on AI Art

This year I've noticed a huge influx of AI artwork and fake images posted for fall, winter, and christmas aethetics. I find it incredibly disappointing to see these as the true beauty of these seasons are the real, human and earth aspects. The AI takes the humanness and real world qualities out of the photo.

Because of this, if I see a photo that seems to be AI, I will leave a comment on that post. If I see a creator continuously posting AI artwork I will block them. AI art is not welcome on my blog or dash. Everyone is entitled to post what they want, but this is my stance.

what do you think of purists, analog people at the time who didn't like and criticized digital cameras specially now over a decade later where there seems to be revival/ interest of the aesthetic of digital cameras from 2000s

generally they fell into two camps

digital cameras really hadnt caught up to film at that time. especially cheap ones so it was a very legitimate point that film usually did have better quality, medium and large format especially was not reproducible digitally. Also there are many great compact film cameras, where as most decent quality digital cameras at the time were large expensive slrs that were annoying to lug around.

But also a large amount of people shooting film at that time, especially point and shoot film party pics, were just like the people now shooting point and shoot digital camera pics. mostly just fun/cheap nostalgia for an aesthetic they experienced in childhood and missed out on in adulthood that became trendy again. it'll seem cringey in a couple of years but teens and people in their early 20s cant help but fall for that kind of empty aethetic nostalgia. I definitely did at that age too

This is mostly to talk about my book, but I’ll probs be showing my creative process and complaining about writing while im on there! possibly also just shitposting lol

I'm a HUGE musical enthusiast. I like the theatricality of musical song, their narrativeness. They don't sound like any other type of songs. But Cages's songs are on a whole other level.

Cages is about a love story in a world where people's hearts are locked away in cages, suppressing their emotions. The main character, Woolf, falls in love with Madeline (if I'm not mistaken with the name). This musical is somewhat experimental : it relies heavily on visual effects and uses noise as well as actual sounds. By that, I mean that the songs mix melodies with dissonances, which results in a very interesting-sounding soundrack.

I would describe this musical's vibe as futuristic victorian : the universe is clearly inspired by victorian aethetics and the songs are reminiscent of dark cabaret music, however the use of very modern sounds and effects in the music adds a twist. As I said earlier, dissonances are used generously thorough songs. I think it makes them more powerful, emotionals. Overall, it's a mix of electro, cabaret, pop for the gentler songs, and noise music.

Unfortunately, I am not able to actually see this musical. It is only live in Los Angeles and no recordings have been made. I would pay all my savings and my right kidney to see this live. There are trailers on youtube which shows how intricate the visuals are, and seeing this live seems to be such an immersive experience. A recording would loose its immersiveness, but it's better than nothing. The album alone is more than enough to understand the story, so it is a perfectly viable alternative. I have no means to know, but according to the album it is a sung-through musical, meaning that you'll probably won't miss much if you only listen to the album.

So I started watching The Mandalorian season 3. ep 1

I am bracing myself after the train wreck that was Boba Fett but I'm hoping that maybe they dont want to fuck up a very popular series.

Firstly I'll admit i was very afraid of the cinematography as Boba fett vomited in some of the scenes but here everything is in frame and in shot. Again only ep 1 but i will call it out it if i see it because it was awful in Boba Fett and disney can do better. But ahem... yes... good to see some descent camera work.

However we seem to be back into pointless scenes that do nothing but add run time. Honestly if you can't write a 45 min length show. DONT. I refer to the scene with the robot. Why did we need 2 repair scenes? this could have all been done with the little repair guys. (who we will likely never see again, or if we do it will be for a 30 sec cameo)

The scene with the other mando's seemed utterly pointless as his quest to redeem himself was given to him when he was dubbed an apostate. Now i appreciate that maybe people did not watch boba fett and need a catch up but that could have been done through flash back (disney could have litterally re run that footage) or when he was talking with the magistrate explained his situation and new quest.

The pirates!! Honestly I had to laugh as it seems they are trying to piggy pack of the success of the clone wars cartoon nostalgia. It worked with Asoka because Jedi plot line (and we know she survived order 66) and I dare say it worked with Boba Fett because Fett worked with the bounty hunter before (and for all Boba Fett's faults the western aethetic worked so well here). But the Pirates were mostly an Obi-wan thing so it feels forced onto Din.

Finally Bo Katan. Now I aint a lore buff so wont say much but season one we were introduced a rival character who was dripping with ambition and she looses it off screen. What a god damn waste.

Overall the episode jumped about so much with forced action scenes it felt more like a kids action flick than a 45 minute sci-fi episode. seriously cut out the mando scene -which seemed to only show him as an action hero which, we know and have had 2 seasons to know that- condense the repair the droid scene and use that extra run time to stick to important plot points. Maybe dramatise the Bo-Katan scene more. For example they could show Din as confused that there is no mando fleet at this empty castle. Maybe an old retainer share the woe of his mistress' fall from grace. (but they are probably not doing that so they can hype the Bo Katan spn off series).

Honestly i'm not expecting much from this series. They are going to have to make every disjointed element of this episode relevent to his quest for attonement. The robot, the pirates, and Bo... and make it feel natural. But i think the pirates are just going to be there for run time filler action scenes.

welp lets see where this show goes and hopefully i can like star wars again.

There are sadly a few reasons why these double standard exist.

One of them is Medusa, more specificly Ovid's Medusa. For a lot of "feminist" (most of the time they are only in the marketing)/modern retellings it's much more easier to show her as a "sad character, a victom, who's life is a tragedy, and did nothing wrong in her life", if they simply ignore the original myth.

It's "easier" to make the reader, or viewer like Medusa as the main character if the writer, ignors Danae and how if Perseus doas not bring Medusa's head, she will have to marry a man she doas not want to (baicly ignoring a woman's story, in a story that claims to give the women in Greek mythology a "voice"). Similarly writng Andromeda and Perseus's realetionship as bad, unhappy, and abusive will make it easier for the writer to make the reader/viewer to belive that "Seee how bad he is?! He did not just killed our precious little Mary Su- Medusa! He also horrible to his wife!" (agein ignoring why Perseus killed Medusa).

Igrnoring the original myth is also a reason why Persephone and Hades is this popular and romanticised.

A lot of people ignore the context in order to cereat they "pastel aethetic girl x dark aesthetic boy", or the "Younge naive and posibly shy female lead meets the dark mysterious older posible yandere male lead, and the fall in love, but the female lead's overbearing and hobbyless mother is against it!" type stories. And not to mention that things like Lore Olympus playd a big part in populasing it.

So what did we learn? People should start romaniticising Perseus and Andromeda's realetionship.

I’m so fucking mad that there were multiple plays (both Greek and Roman) about Andromeda that expand on her character and her relationship with Perseus and her parents but they’re all lost or fragmented and now ppl can’t view Andromeda as anything more than a damsel in distress with no agency bc they wouldn’t bother to read between the lines with the sources we do have and do their research about her.
