I have three words for you: Install Pretendo Network

I wanted to make a post about Pretendo for a while but I did not have the time. So thank you for reminding me to do as such.

With the shutdown of the Wii U servers for Mario Kart 8, not all hope is lost. Previously I said that perhaps fans will restore online play to its former glory. Fortunately that project has already been in development for some time, by name of Pretendo, not to be confused with the fake Nintendo logo font on dafont.com.

I have yet to use it myself but Pretendo is available both with and without a modified Wii U. The latter method uses an SSL exploit to access limited Pretendo features while the former requires homebrew software to be installed but gives full access. We at Mario Kart 8 Wii U do not condone nor condemn the modification of Wii U systems, as we believe the system to be perfect as is. Regardless, modifying hardware is something of a legal grey area which I don't have full authority to speak of.

Going off of their website, Pretendo has support for most Mario Kart 8 features, with the exclusion of tournament features and direct uploads to YouTube. I suppose the soulful Miiverse integration is a tough nut to crack for those who wish to know what the genious minds at Nintendo were doing in 2011-2014.

While it hurts that Nintendo no longer cares about it, it gives me a spark of joy to see those who do. If you are itching once again to get some online races from the best Mario Kart, give it a try and let us know the results.

A piece I made in 2019 for a Splatoon zine called "Splashback", which was a zine to celebrate those Splatoon 1 memories! The theme I chose was "Ancho-Games", so naturally I went for an NES-vibe, featuring the Vid-Squids!! I had a lot of fun packing a bunch of NES game references/visuals in here.

(Plus a fake Miiverse post that went along with it- only '90s squids will remember...)

I know I don’t post much on Tumblr that much, but, here’s a little something I’d like to share:

I remember I was conversing with a friend of mine on DeviantART (MegaToon1234, also known as Ethan in case any of you ask and yes, I've known him from Miiverse as well since around 2015]) and how I wanted to do my own Vinesauce AU (Alternate Universe) where Crash's universe is like Mario's universe, Mario's universe being like Crash's universe, Spyro's being like Sonic's universe and Sonic's universe being like Spyro's universe. Speaking of Crash's universe being like Mario's universe, here's what I mean for the character roles:

Crash Bandicoot - Mario

Coco Bandicoot - Luigi (cause they're younger siblings)

Tawna Bandicoot - Princess Peach (cause they're the kidnapped victims)

Dr. Neo Cortex - Bowser (they're both evil)

Nina Cortex - Bowser Jr. (suggested by MegaToon1234)

Fake Crash - Wario (cause they're doppelgangers of Crash and Mario)

Rilla Roo - Waluigi (due to them being debuted in 2000)

Anyways, here's what my friend, MegaToon1234 did on DeviantART

^_^ He did Crash Bandicoot in the SMB1 style and did Spyro in the Sonic The Hedgehog 1 style. I freakin' love this a lot I'll be honest with ya.
