I had a nice talk with @teriiblog about my aokabu being married fic, and although we got kabu's hand placement wrong in our excitement, it still got me thinking: what if, after aokabu got married, kabu changed his battle pose by laying his left hand (with his wedding ring on!) over his heart, instead of his right one (which showed the galar league symbol on his glove)? It could become a way for kabu to show his devotion for larry, even if they could still live in their respective regions after tying the knot? 😭💖

Kabu could keep this very same battle pose, just that he'll exchange his right hand over his left one! 🥺🥺🥺 the galar league might not mind it too, especially if this change in kabu's pose takes place in leon's leadership! 💗

WHAT THE FUCK. WHAT THE FUCK. WHAT THE FUCK. WHY DID IT DO THAT. WHY DID THEY [GAMEFREAK] DO THAT.

Long Answer Re: Thoughts About Terapagos [SPOILERS FOR THE SCARVIO DLC naturally. i havent seen Horizons so i dont rly know whats goin on with this little guy in the anime, just what we've got in the games]:

When the last little batch of new Pokemon in Indigo Disk leaked, about 12 hours or so-ish before the DLC dropped, I was at dinner with my bestie and we were looking at our phones like we were reading breaking world news. And I was looking at this tiny ass png of Terapagos's full Tera (Stellar) form.

And I immediately blurted out "holy SHIT it's turtles all the way down."

If you're not familiar with the phrase, check out its wikipedia page; here it's most relevant as a saying thrown around with regards to the philosophical concept of infinite regress, i.e. a series of elements (or questions begging an explanation) that that goes on infinitely with each member producing the next. So let's say the world rests on the back of a giant turtle--well, then, what does that turtle stand on to keep it from falling into the void? Why, another, bigger turtle, of course! But what about that turtle? Well, you're not gonna believe this, but it's turtles all the way down.

And here's the other thing about infinite regress: it's a logical fallacy, it's circular reasoning--honestly it's a little bit of a cousin to the "which came first?" chicken and egg argument. The question in these cases never truly gets answered, it just goes on and on forever. Bigger turtles on top of even bigger turtles.

It's a paradox. :)

So Stellar Terapagos, just look at that thing. Even its dex entries talk about how it looks like a planet, how it resembles "the world as the ancients saw it"--it's very much not only trying to evoke the World Turtle concept, but the symbolism of a classic paradoxical saying. So we've already got that going on with it, that already makes me bonkers. AND THAT'S JUST THE SURFACE LEVEL.

Cuz when we look at how Terapagos behaves, things start to go from "well isnt this guy a little weird" to "oh. oh this thing is kind of fucked up and terrifying, hello, what the hell is wrong with it" REAL FAST. Its two most stressed features we see in Indigo Disk are A.) its crystalline nature and how its the progenitor of Terastalization, but also B.) it is ferociously powerful and borderline uncontrollable. It's violent. It bursts out of a Master Ball and almost kills Kieran for daring to try and control it. Heath's illustration of its Stellar form in the Scarlet/Violet Book looks so otherworldly and almost cosmically horrifying. It has Weird Fucking Powers the game does NOT elaborate on (but I will; see more below.)

And also, hey, yeah, its Stellar Form looks like a stack of world turtles, but why the FUCK does its Terastal form also look like a goddamn dream catcher.

Personally I've been a big fan of the 'imagination theory' re: the Professors and the Paradox Pokemon and Area Zero, and folks have been arguing that Indigo Disk debunks that, but honestly I feel like we're loitering around some untold explanation that's even more bizarre. Terapagos is at least on some level tied to dreams and existentialism, and I really feel like there's more to Tera Crystals and Terapagos's relationship with them than what we've been told. Hell, its cry is even the noise we hear all game when we Terastalize our Pokemon, which produces its own myriad of questions (Are the Crystals some degree of alive? The Tera Crowns all do have Terapago's little turtle head at their base, too--does Terapagos physically or spiritually connect with a Terastalizing Pokemon? And what about that weird crystalizing the AI Professor does during its big boss fight? MUCH TO THINK ABOUT.)

Oh, speaking of Crystals--yeah. I can't NOT talk about the Indigo Disk Crystal Pool Postgame Secret when talking about Terapagos. ONE MORE SPOILER WARNING FOR THAT--SERIOUSLY GO TO THE CRYSTAL POOL AFTER GETTING THE DLC CREDITS. IT WILL BLAST YOU TO BITS. anyway.

Yeah so that's what I mean with Why Did It [Terapagos] Do That. The fact that you dont even need to have it in your party for the postgame Crystal Pool cutscene to trigger and for Terapagos to just pop out of the PC boxes on its own accord and warp space and time (and maybe even reality itself) to irreversible consequence, implying once again some great and uncontrollable power within this beast. Crazy Ass Moments in Pokemon History for CERTAIN.

And the thing that makes me most insane, thinking about Terapagos twisting time to allow you to meet the Professor, the Real Live Professor, to swap notes with them so to speak, the way it facilitates all of that, is the position it now puts the player and Scarvio itself in. If the Professor's research rests on the back of a white book given to them by a child, then what does the research of that white book rest upon? Ah, well, the expedition of Area Zero spurred forth by the fallout of the Professor's research. And what did THAT research rest upon, again...?

Turtles. The whole way down. Chickens and eggs and a paradox you're now responsible for. At the hands of a Normal Type Pokemon that tried to kill a 14 year old.

Terapagos scares the shit out of me. I love it so much. Why Did They Make It Like That <3

Hiii I hope this is okay! This is the first time I’ve written for Hassel!

You’re afraid of loud noises; thunder, fireworks, balloons popping, all of it. While some of it you can’t get away from, such as thunder, there were times you could get away from it, like now, when there are planned events with fireworks at the end. You had heard about a festival in which there were going to be fireworks involved, so you knew you had to leave for the night, but to where? Well, none other than your boyfriend’s house!

“I’m sure he won’t mind.” You said aloud as you were packing up a bag for the night. Your Lycanroc only nodded as they helped you grab a few things you were missing.

“Oh, thank you, buddy.” You pat their head and grabbed your bag, putting it on your shoulders before walking outside with your Pokemon hot on your heels.

“Sorry, buddy, but I’m going to have to put you back in your pokeball for now.” Lycanroc pouts a little, but nodded in understanding as you returned them to their ultra ball.

As you were locking up the house, you called a taxi to bring you to your boyfriend’s house. As you were leaving, you decided to call up Hassel.

“Hello?” He answered after a couple rings.

“Hassel! Hello!” You responded with a smile on your face.

“Oh! Hello, my dear. Is there something you wanted to talk about?”

“Yeah, actually, I wanted to tell you that… I’m on my way over to your place.”

“Oh? Did something happen?”

“Oh, no, nothing major, just there’s a festival by my house that will have fireworks and… you know how I am.”

“I am aware. Well, don’t you worry, I’ll be waiting for you.”

“Thank you, Hassel, I really appreciate it.”

“You’re welcome, my dear Y/n.”

“Well, I’m almost here, I’ll see you soon.”

“Very well. I’ll see you soon.” And with that, you hung up, looking out the window now. It didn’t take you much longer to reach your destination, as you waved the driver and pokemon goodbye, you walked up to the door and knocked, smiling faintly as Hassel opened up the door.

“Good evening, Y/n.”

“Good evening.” Hassel moved to the side to let you into the house, you walked inside and he shut the door behind you.

“Have you had dinner yet, Y/n?”

“No, not yet. I figured by the time I finished the festival was going to start, and I wanted to get over here before then.”

“Go set your things down and I’ll make dinner, okay?”

“Sounds good to me.” You went to the spare room, where you would usually stay when you slept over at his house, and set your bag down. While you were setting your things down, you heard a loud noise from behind you all of a sudden, making you yelp in fear before you were pulled back… into the arms of Hassel’s Baxcalibur, who looked happy to see you.

“Goodness, Baxcalibur!” You chuckled a bit as you shook your head. “I’m happy to see you too, but you can’t just sneak up on me like that!” He let you go from the hug and followed you back into the living room, then into the kitchen.

“Are you alright, Y/n? I heard a noise.” Hassel asked you, a slightly worried look on his face.

“I’m fine, love, just your Baxcalibur gave me a scare by sneaking up on me!”

“Oh goodness, I’m sorry about that, my dear.”

“It’s alright, he wasn’t trying to scare me, I know he was just happy to see me.” You gave the dragon type a little pat on the head as he leaned down for you to do so.

“Well… that’s good. Anyways, dinner will be ready in just a moment.”

“Thank you, Hassel, for everything.”

“It’s not a problem, Y/n.” He smiled softly as you made your way over to him, hugging him, but also taking a look to see what he was making. It was your favorite, (insert favorite food here)! Your eyes lit up at the sight before letting go of Hassel.

“You made my favorite..!”

“I sure did. Now go take a seat and I’ll bring you a plate/bowl.” You nodded and went over to the table before taking a seat at the table. You watched as Hassel brought you a plate/bowl of your favorite food, setting it down in front of you before he kissed your forehead.

“I hope you like it.” You waited a few moments for it to cool off before you cautiously took the first bite.

“Have you been taking lessons from Saguaro? Because this tastes absolutely amazing! So much better than last time!” Hassel chuckled a bit in response, and you could’ve sworn you saw a faint blush on his face.

“You caught me. I asked him to help me, as I told him it was for you, and of course he agreed to it.”

“How sweet.” You two talked for a little while as you finished up your dinner, him taking your plate/bowl and taking it to the sink to wash and put away. You were about to say something when you heard a rather loud noise from outside, in which you made a noise of fear in response, your eyes wide.

“Y/n?” Hassel looked back at you, setting the plate/bowl in the sink before he rushed over to you, pulling you into a hug as there was another loud noise outside, one that sounded like a firework.

“Hey, it’s okay, I’m here..” Hassel held you close to him, bringing you to the couch before sitting down with you, wrapping a blanket around your body before pulling you back to him.

“It’s okay..” he kissed your forehead and looked out the window, seeing a few bright colors light up the sky before the noise rang out, making you tremble in his arms as you practically buried your face into his chest. Hassel gently runs his fingers along your back, holding you close to him to help calm you down.

“It’s okay, they’re gone now. It must have just been a few stray fireworks from the festival.” How was that even possible? Unless some jerk took a couple fireworks and set them off away from the festival. Hassel thought to himself but shook his head as he focused on helping you calm down now.

“Y/n.” He said softly, having you look up at him. “Focus on me, and my voice, okay?” You don’t say anything as you now focus on him, instead of the commotion outside.

“You’re okay, just breathe, sweetheart.” He breathed with you to help you calm your breathing. “There you go.” He smiled softly and went back to lightly rubbing your arm in a gentle, soothing motion.

“…I’m sorry.. for panicking like that..” you suddenly said once you felt you were calmed down enough.

“There’s no need to apologize, Y/n. Practically everyone is afraid of something. You’re afraid of loud noises, and that’s okay. It’s not a silly fear, and you know I’ll always be there to help you.”

“…thank you.” You mumbled, just loud enough for him to hear as you were getting tired after your little panic attack.

“You’re welcome, my dear. Now let’s go get some rest, I’m sure you’re exhausted after all that.” You slowly nodded in response, resting your head on his chest as he stood up, making his way to his room.

“You won’t be sleeping in the guest room tonight, I want to be there with you just in case.” You don’t even argue with him as he carried you into his room and set you down on the bed.

“I’ll go grab your bag, and you can change into your night clothes, okay?” With that said, Hassel left the room, coming back a few moments later with your bag, handing it to you. You took your night clothes out of the bag, which was just a simple shirt and shorts with (design of choice) on them. Hassel grabbed some clothes to change into as well, stepped out of the room and left you to change.

“You can come back in now.” You softly called out to him once you were done and now lying in bed. Hassel stepped back into the room, now changed as well, before crawling into bed beside you, pulling you close to him. You closed your eyes as you rest your head on his chest again. You were pretty tired after the day’s events, and you were just happy to have Hassel there beside you.

“Sleep well, my love.” Was the last thing you heard before you drifted off to sleep, Hassel making sure you were asleep before falling asleep as well.

rahhhh i haven’t felt like drawing for it (i miiiight after work today?) but i have some teams picked out for the p3 pokemon au and i feel like babbling about them since ive been replaying heartgold. under da cut. a lot of the team configurations are based on a mixture of persona parallels and just vibes.

femc/kotone/minako/etc

I’ve literally redone her team a million times because I’m never satisfied with it but i forced myself to compromise on this particular configuration (she’s probably got a ton in her pc though. members that didn’t make the cut include bewear, raticate, musharna, dragapult)

blaziken represents orpheus, and duskinoir represents thanatos. the remainder are more like “i think she’d have these”. storywise in particular, plusle is a childhood pokemon matching with yuki’s minun (the protags are twins in this au as always).

yukari

these are pretty outright i think. decidueye for the obvious archery reasons (have joked that i think it’d be cute if yukari’s decidueye actually used to be very poor with its aim until she started helping it practice)

miltank being (sort of???) representative of io, and togekiss being (SORT OF???) representative of isis. (there are only so many cow/bull pokemon and a few of which im reserving for other teams)

the rest are mostly vibes based! porygon in particular is a pokemon passed down to her from her father after his death. she has a very tight bond with it.

akihiko

magnezone represents polydeuces and golurk represents caesar

the rest are mostly vibes based. aki comes off as the type of trainer who would literally fistfight his pokemon as training. his pachirisu was his sister’s first and only pokemon before she passed.

mitsuru

ceruledge represents penthesilea. empoleon Somewhat represents artemisia.

she has somewhat noble/rare pokemon to fill her team. gardevoir is a reference to her mild navigational abilities (it would be kinda funny if she was mildly psychic like sabrinabut to a lesser extent). indeedee is a pokemon she picked up at a young age, one of the first few she caught herself.

fuuka

fuuka is a coordinator as opposed to a trainer, so her team isn’t super battle-capable. lapras and musharna are meant to sort of rep lucia/juno.

i dont have heavy thoughts on her selection but i think quagsire is very close to her.

aigis

this is one of the teams that has a great number of members that relate to her personas. bastiodon, escavelier, and iron valiant are meant to represent palladion/athena. silvally is pretty much a perfect fit narratively as a partner for aigis. ninjask is there because well i think she likes it. pikachu is a match with the rest of the moonlight bridge quartet, each having an electric mouse pokemon

she’s still a robot btw. scarvio is my enabler for that being a thing within the pokemon universe

I think chidoris are pretty self explanatory. very vibes based. tauros/houndoom representing medea. mesprit because we’ve been imagining each member of strega being in possession of a member of the lake trio.

I have the most painful idea for a scarvio au. So like, imagine this. The player wakes up by the lighthouse with no memories; only vague bits like a smile, something soft, and the smell of baked bread. Nemona on the way to school is like "whoa you okay? and then they both encounter Miradon blah blah blah, but for some reason, Miradon recognizes the player. They head to school and Director Clavell reveals that the player is allowed to attend due to Professor Turo's recommendation. Things play out as normal, but as they enter area zero, the player starts remembering bits and pieces of... something. Everything seems like deja vu. Eventually, everything is revealed.

Turo's research into time travel, he had seen glimpses of other timelines. And in one of those timelines, it was of Arven having to defeat the AI Turo. Not wanting his son to suffer the pain of hurting his own father, he creates another AI: A pokemon trainer around his son's age. He sends this trainer into the future, along with setting everything up so his plan would succeed, and continues with his experiments guilt-free, knowing that his son won't have to suffer. Unfortunately for him, he had made a fatal error. He overshot when the AI would arrive in the future, leading them to end up at the exact time Arven would be fighting AI Turo. So the Ai throws itself into the time machine and goes back in time to before the start of the school year. Now the only way to keep the timeline from collapsing in on itself is if the player goes back in time to when they first woke up, creating an endless loop. AKA: Turo made a paradox by complete accident! The player, of course, cares too much for their friends to risk the timeline breaking. So, they fight Turo, and instead of Turo being the one to enter the time machine, its the player The last thing they see is Nemona, Arven, and Penny, and they try to hold onto their memories with them. Nemona's smile, Penny's soft jacket, and how Arven smelled of baked bread.... They wake up by a lighthouse.

Guzma looked over at you from across the battle field as he took his final pokemon back into its ball. He was both amazed and furious as the dust began to settle and his large stature began crossing the terrain over to you. Your starter pokemon went to shield you in case he tried to hit you, but you knew better. Guzma wouldn't be that much of an idiot...hopefully. Besides there were witnesses around and Nanu would have no issue arresting him on the spot for attacking a trainer physically.

He got right in front of you, leaning into your face. He was about to spit out some rude words and insults, maybe a threat or two your way. Then he got a good look at you. You held your head high, pride seeping off your very bones as you glared at him. You weren't scared and something about that amused him.

The biggest thing he noticed, however, was the fact that you were cute...just his type actually. He smirked as he bent over, his mouth grazing your ear, "Mind if I put you on my to-do list, cutie?" you froze in your spot and glared at him.

"If you finish as fast as our battle I doubt I'd get any satisfaction out of it." You spat back and Guzma snarled before getting to his full height. He flipped you off for good measure before stuffing his hands in his pockets and walked off. As Kukui came over, asking what he said, you couldn't help but look at Guzma's ass.

You were freezing cold as you watched Grusha finish up his battle; the poor trainer challenging him failing miserably with their underleveled team. You shook in your spot, teeth clattering and you cursed not getting a thicker jacket. There was a reason Grusha wore mitts, a scarf, and a huge jacket. The top of the mountain was frigid.

Grusha recalled his last pokemon and pocketed the ball before turning over to you. The crowd was dispersing and he was able to easily make his way over to you.

"You're cold?' He asked, despite it being obvious. You shot him a small glare as you frowned. Grusha couldn't help the small smirk under his scarf as he lifted his jacket a bit.

"My jacket is probably big enough for you to fit inside." He mentioned and you paused. Was Grusha, the so call cool kid, was offering to let you crawl into his jacket? You didn't want to miss the opportunity as you shuffled over to him and crawled under the jacket. He unzipped the top enough to fit your head.

Your arms wrapped around his toned waist and you smiled, enjoying the warmth his body was giving off. "It's big enough." You chuckled, feeling his arms settle on your lower back.

"You know this is seriously uncool." He commented.

So I've had this hc in my head ever since I got to the part where Arven called player chara 'little buddy', but I hc that Arven could totally just pick up and tuck the player character under his arm like a doll. In this particular hc, pc is a little gremlin.

"I'm bored...do something entertaining!" You whined over at Arven. The boy looked over at you with an unimpressed look. He was currently trying to get through one of his research books to help further your adventure. Still, you were never good at sitting still.

"And what exactly do you want me to do?" He asked, putting a dog ear on his book and closing it. You hummed, looking around the cave you two were chilling in.

"We could race or something? I dunno. Something fun. Balance a sandwich on your head. Really...anything please." You whined again and Arven shook his head at your antics.

"We're not children." With that, you scoffed. Not children, but very bored teens in a cave doing nothing crazy fun. "And why would you suggest balancing a sandwich on my head?" You shrugged at that.

"I don't know Arven, but we gotta do something. Wanna battle?" You asked, sending out a small Pachirisu you had caught earlier today, "I bet my Pachirisu could totally beat you in a battle." You called.

"We're not having a pokemon battle." He said and you frowned.

"Oh no, I meant you battle Pachirisu. Not your pokemon." You said with a sinister smirk, "Zap zap, Arven, let's dance." Needless to say, another idea was shot down.

When you originally approached the idea of birthdays and asked Arven what he wanted to do, he just told you not to worry about it since he didn't care much about his own birthday.

When questioning him some more, you found out the cold hard truth. He hadn't celebrated his birthday in a very long time. Even when he lived with his parent, they would sometimes forget about it. Not on purpose, of course, they would just be too into their research.

Needless to say, it kind of ruined birthdays for Arven, and he didn't much care about celebrating his own. He'd be more than happy to do something for his friends, but not himself.

That's when your plan hatched with Nemona and Penny at your side. You were going to throw him a surprise party.

Nemona kept trying to say the best way to celebrate was with a surprise battle tournament, but both you and Penny had to shoot her down. This was for Arven, after all.

You managed to rope some of the staff in as well in the preparation. Mr. Saguaro had helped a lot with making some good foods for you guys to have for the party. Clavell even reserved the cafeteria just for the party so you guys had a big space.

You had asked to borrow Mabosstiff from Arven and put the pokemon in a little party hat.

When Arven came in, he was shocked to see the party poppers. All his friends were there, ready to celebrate the big day.

He was sheepish and scratched the back of his head, but admitted that Mabosstiff looked adorable in his party hat.

The party went well and by the end, when clean up was all done, Arven asked to speak with you privately.

He thanked you but you could see the tears threatening to leave his eyes as he did so. You did the only thing you could do, and it was to hug your friend and let him cry on your shoulder.

This was the first time in years he got to celebrate his birthday, and he was so grateful to have his friends there with him. He's just happy he was able to hold it together until the end and not cry in front of the others, how embarrassing would that be?

Arven swears he'll do something even better for your birthday, and it might have turned it into a bit of a competition between you two to try to one-up the other on birthday party throwing.

I don't know where you want to take the FE flavored bits in your Pokemon AU, but in the Pokemon Anime there are some side plots involving modern/vestigial royalty. (Dawn's or Chloe's doppelgangers come to mind.) So, if Al and Shari are still descended from royalty in this AU, the Honedge line could be an Ancient Royal Family Tradition. I can picture Gustav using Alfonse's Aegislash or lack-there-of (still a Doublade?) as a point of contention, even if the family "kingdom" is just an old castle estate now. If Al doesn't have one/evolved his later than normal/non-traditionally than he is still Immature and Not Ready etc. Which would kinda fill in as a decent plot translation for their Bad Paternal/Filial Relationship.

But that's just a thought, since Aegislash really is just a strangely "Alfonse" pokemon. I hope however your ideas take form they bring you joy.

OHHH THIS IS FASCINATING.... I'm def most familiar with the game lore, and even then it's been a while since I was Deeply in The Interest so I'm rusty! The idea of the Askr family still being royalty here just wasn't a possibility in my mind!

For the lore of it, I was definitely gonna start with referencing the Aether Foundation, and go from there (esp since gen 7 has my ENTIRE heart story/character lineup wise, DEF left the deepest impression on me back then! 🥺🫣 ScarVio def matches it though). But my thought process was, translating royalty into being the head of a big important foundation or company... esp one like the Aether Foundation where it's benevolent on the surface, just. Has one crazy motherfucker behind it corrupting things from the inside 🧍. WHICH... wouldn't be a one-to-one, but I think also the politics of different organizations could easily translate to evil team plots and whatnot (esp in the case of Embla, maybe a rival to whatever Askr has going on?)

But as you can probably tell, none of this has even been thought about yet LMFAOO 😅 I DO really like the approach here though... where the "royalty" is just some old tired but emotionally significant tradition. The rivaling families can still exist too. Just on a much, MUCH smaller and petty scale. WHICH IS SO FUNNY TBH.... imagine being just some guy, who gets tangled up in this. Stupidest most oddly compelling family drama ever, that spans generations. Which surely won't explode into something catastrophic.... if...... general rules about evil teams in Pokemon and Embla itself is anything to go by.... (LIKE. USING "evil team" as a BROAD descriptor here. In my head I'm imagining what if Team Aqua/Magma weren't extremist environmentalists and instead had like an XY old royalty family rivalry plot. Something to that effect!)

BUT!!!! BUT!!!!! I DO REALLY LOVE THE AEGISLASH IDEA........ the Foreshadowing of it...... but also the characterization!!!!! With Aegislash's offense form/defense form gimmick!!!!

I am ALWAYS thinking about Alfonse's characterization of being someone who may play defense for a little too long. During the Flavia FBs, he guards and blocks to his detriment, not making any real progress in the sparring. Then there's the promo/introduction of that PVP mode, demonstrated by Alfonse battling Veronica -- wherein, Alfonse starts off strong, but because he played too defensively as the game went on, Veronica got the upper hand and won. (THAT EXAMPLE. IS ALWAYS SUCH A FUNNY ONE TO PULL FROM FOR ME.... but the AMOUNT. Of characterization you get from it, even if it's not in-game material and is a promo/demo of a new mode. It's fascinating to me, and you see so succinctly how it plays out!)

But then you have the offense side of it!!!! Where there are just as many moments it seems (or, as time has gone on and Alfonse has gained more confidence), where he acknowledges that a defensive approach won't work. He thinks it through. He comes up with A Plan. And that plan usually involves going ALL out, All or Nothing, FOR THE THROAT, putting his whole pussy into it!!!!!! The reckless factor, the "calculated risks", ect ect!!!!! Get em, Alfonse!!!!! You crazy bitch!!!!!!

I JUST THINK. THE WAY YOU CAN DO STORYTELLING IN POKEMON. IS ALWAYS SOOOOOO FUN AND FASCINATING. You have 1000+ mons to pick from, with HUNDREDS of little quirks that make up all of them. From dex entries, to playstyle, appearances ofc, typings, and game mechanics (age old tried and true storytelling device of the friendship evolution Pokemon, AND EVEN!!!! TRADE EVOLUTION POKEMON!!!!! Which could inform you about a character's connection to other trainers, even if that other trainer isn't a character themselves... the implication, that maybe a loner type trainer has a trade evo Pokemon that they WERE able to evolve... who helped them do that? 👀). That's just a handful of the things you can work with! The amount of depth you can go with is astounding!!!! And perhaps... overwhelming 😅🧍
