I was rethinking about how important the use of cultural details is when doing fairytale reinterpretations or adaptations. It is a way of adapting that people tend to forget due to some sort of general agreement that fairytales should escape any type of time-space setting and feel just like a "generic pseudo-medieval pseudo-European" world (except of course if they are set in modern day America, because for the US media the USA is, of course, a setting deemed "universal" enough that should speak to everybody... *cough cough* americanocentrism *cough cough*)
It was something I was already thinking about some times ago, ever since I discovered the Royal New Zealand Ballet's Hansel and Gretel, which has lots of very cool references to various states of German culture, ranging from cinema (the aesthetic of the setting, characters and special effects is meant to evoke the classic mute expressionist movies such as "Nosferatu" or "The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari")...
Tumblr media
... to folklore (the show made the insanely clever decision of replacing the bird eating the crumbs in the forest with schnabelperchten brooming them away).
And more recently I have been looking into a 1930 black-and-white French movie called "Cinderella of Paris", that transposes/twists/parodies the Cinderella story within the context of the realistic 1920s Paris.
Tumblr media
And the main ball, the equivalent of the titular Cinderella ball, is made into the Sainte-Catherine dance. Which is absolutely fitting and perfect for a Cinderella within an inter-war Paris. If you don't know, up until the mid-20th century, in France Saint Catherine's day was the time of a great popular ball/public dance whose entire purpose was to allow girls of 25 years old or more, yet without a male companion, to find a suitor/husband/boyfriend/fiancé. It was the big time to "solve the problem of the old maids", of which Saint Catherine was the patron - and it was THE big "love day" long before the overwhelming Americanization of Saint Valentine's Day.
All of that to say, I really love the inclusion of little cultural details and elements within fairytales retelling or transpositions - either of the original fairytale's culture, or of the culture in which the fairytale is transposed. Not only does it make the product quite cool, clever and/or interesting, but it also shows that you put a lot of thought into the tale's original setting and the point of moving up to another time period or geographical era. It is the opposite of just slapping a "That's X country" or "That's X time" sticker onto a fairytale without doing much more work.

Jojo how are you? I just stumbled upon Tokyo revengers YouTube channel and found this, their own transposition of Momotaro, you gotta see it 😂
Link
Ah yeah!!! That's the first episode out of three they're doing for the new fairytale revengers series (it's not yet clear if they'll cover more stories after momotaro or not). It's such a fun little animation and they look so cute in it! Thanks for making sure I was aware!

Marcel Proust’s Lost Gay Love Stories to Finally Be Published
Tumblr media
Nine gay love stories by French author Marcel Proust are set to be published this fall for the first time. The stories take the form of “fairytales, fantasy and dialogues with the dead.”
The Guardian reports: “Touching on themes of homosexuality, the stories were written by Proust during the 1890s, when he was in his 20s and putting together the collection of poems and short stories that would become Plaisirs et les jours (Pleasures and Days). He decided not to include them. In the 1950s, they were discovered by the late Proust specialist Bernard de Fallois, whose publishing house Editions de Fallois will publish them in French in October, 97 years after Proust’s death, under the title Le Mystérieux Correspondant (The Mysterious Correspondent).”
Tumblr media
Wrote Luc Fraisse of the stories: “A question arises from the outset: why did Proust dismiss Plaisirs these texts that were mentioned in the initial summary entitled ‘The Castle of Eve’ and left some in a state of relative incompleteness? It is obviously necessary to weigh the answer with the greatest circumspection. No doubt he considered that because of their audacity they could have hit a social milieu where a strong traditional morality prevailed. Without recourse to biographical erudition, this interpretation is certainly not arbitrary if one thinks of the rigor of the ‘people of Combray,’ as evoked in the first part of Swann’s Side , for example. Indeed, the dominant theme of these works is the analysis of ‘the physical love so unjustly decried’ ( Swann ) in terms that announce and foreshadow Sodom and Gomorrah , either directly or through transposition.”

KUWKUWTK S17E8: “Rumor Has It”
I first started watching Keeping Up With The Kardashians on a study pill binge at the end of my Freshman year of college. I would wake up at 9am, pop a pill or two, drink a cup of coffee, and work nonstop until 2am. Study pills are so strange to your body. They distance you from generalized ideals of time and make Enlightenment-era dialectics of mind/body actually apparent in a physical way. So when my mind had turned to word gobble but my heart was still thumping at appalling rates, I realized I needed a way for my mind to sleep. Therefore, KUWTK. That finals week, I watched the first 6 seasons, up until episode 14: “Kim’s Fairytale Wedding pt. 1.”
How strange that all episodes have names, as if naming scripted banalities deserve a type of chapter-like commemoration. They are geniuses, was my takeaway. Easy on the camera, they were born to be watched but then also to watch themselves back. I wondered: do the Kardashians keep up with themselves? How involved are they with the editing process? How does the concept of a family secret or the familial banality of talking behind someone’s back work when it is projected to millions each Sunday for primetime television?
Anyway, about a year ago, I got back into it when I realized they were still strong in season 16. Now it is season 17 and I am still hooked. And awaaayyyyy we go…
In last night’s episode, “Rumor Has It,” there was a Freudian return to childhood and early adulthood trauma-- namely, Khloe went to prom with a highschooler, Kris and her friend reminisced about their deceased friend Nicole, and Kim, Kourtney, and Scott (with others) returned to Costa Rica because North wanted to and it was her birthday.
The episode was one of memories and how to move with and beyond memories of hurt in order to establish yourself in the present. Perhaps like the Kanye-ed editing techniques of nostalgia, both with the credit sequence of the iconic image of all the Kardashian/Jenners innocently crawling upon one another on their old couch in their old house and the vintage-esque camera cuts between scenes.
On Mourning, Freud writes that “the ego wants to incorporate this object into itself, and, in accordance with the oral or cannibalistic phase of libidinal development in which it is, it wants to do so by devouring it” (Freud Reader, 587). He posits that by making the loss of someone or something into an object, by rendering it an object, the ego wants to get it back via eating it. So how very intriguing that Kris and her friend voyage to the very same restaurant where, 30 years ago, they dined with their friend Nicole… only for the waiter to coincidentally announce that, seeing as this week is the 30th anniversary of the restaurant, they have reverted their menus for extra nostalgia… at which point Kris and her friend break into tears. Oh, this is exactly what Nicole would have seen! I remember exactly what she ate! Oh Kris, what photographic memory you have!
They dine, they remember, and then Kris surreptitiously adds in the one-on-one interviews that it is so sad that their friend is remembered for her death instead of her life. Which brings me to the absurdity of the situation: her friend is none other than Nicole Brown Simpson, famed ex-wife of OJ. She was murdered by her ex-husband and, of course, Rob Kardashian, patriarch, defended him. We begin to understand this is a rather on-the-nose incident of emotive cathexis. I was like… wait, WHAT!? Did Kris introduce OJ and Nicole? How is this part of the story not the first thing we hear? Of course, in the narrative of the rich and famous, the gossip and the murder only follows the banal remembrences of oh, what a great friend she was, how much life did she bring to the party, etc. They dine together to eat the same thing their dead friend ate, and then Kris announces later in the episode she is suing the Daily Mail because OJ is now spreading a rumor he fucked her so hard she had to be hospitalized… The anniversary of Nicole’s death calls for another hospitalization story, this time with OJ bragging about hurting a woman. How compelling and how narratively intertwined that this episode redeems the social plight of Kris not once but twice: She is such a great friend to still cry over Nicole’s death and to remember her exact lunch order, and also, she was NOT fucked by OJ and decides to once and for all END the rumors and to SUE.
More on Freud: the melancholic is an interesting character because their relationship with their ego supersedes such of the one in mourning. It is not only that Kris eats her old friend, but, “we perceive that the self-reproaches are reproaches against a loved object which have been shifted away from it on to the patient’s own ego” (Freud Reader, 586). Perhaps Kris is tormenting Nicole by her prolonged suffering, as does the melancholic. Freud’s conflict of love which pulls together ego and object in a relationship not of direct switching, but of metaphor or comparison, botched, in a sense, like too much botox or a nose job done too well.
Or, what really strikes me about Freud’s turn to the melancholic is the contradictory association of ego and object. What he means is this: you love an object (for example: Kris loved Nicole), but then this “narcissistic identification with the object… becomes a substitute for the erotic cathexis, the result of which is that in spite of the conflict with the loved person the love-relation need not be given up” (587). Basically, Kris’s identification with Nicole, though she seems to mourn her, is one of ego-transposition. With Nicole, Kris experiences the trauma of loss, sure, but also, more importantly, it is the trauma of responsibility which drives her, 25 years later, to still be moved to uncontrollable bouts of emotion at mere remembrance. Which makes sense: Kris Jenner was propelled into fame, which then propelled her daughters, her daughters’ daughters, and her entire billion-dollar empire into even more extravagant fame by the OJ trial where her then-husband, Rob Kardashian, defended the man who had killed her friend to such an extent that OJ went free and Nicole’s death remains unavenged. Kris has transferred her own guilt of narcissism into the action of public, televised mourning for Nicole, not unlike the power reserved for Kim to self-heroise when it turns out the name of her brand is deeply rooted in western imperial structures of market, fashion, and gaze when she makes it out that she had no idea that Kimono was the wrong call for her shape-wear brand. More on that later.
Meanwhile, Khloe also imbibes heavily whilst craving heady high school nostalgia. A long-time KUWTK fan invites her to his prom and she goes. Equipped with a stretch limo, a ball gown, and what seems to be a sippy cup full of forbidden teenage cocktail, she empties it quickly. Calls her mom: Mom what do I do I’m scared for prom. Kris: Oh don’t worry hunny, drink some more. Which she does. In tipsy rambles, Khloe reveals she was homeschooled so never went to prom. Long story short, she picks up this guy and takes him to prom with many fluffed up girls in wedding cake dresses. Khloe is drunk but still slow dances. She is filmed the whole time and her name is chanted. She leaves early because she’s too drunk and “was starting to not be able to remember…” Basically, Khloe has a typical prom minus heartbreak but hey, she goes home to her child whose father was too busy sleeping with another woman to see her born… heartbreak intact!
The Costa Rica trip becomes a redemptive few days for Scott who, last time in Costa Rica, got a drink poured on him by hero Khloe because he flew out another girl to fuck while on (a filmed) vacation with his ex-girlfriend, three children, and his about 10 ex-in-laws. This time he does better and plays daddy shark in the pool. The REAL drama plays out because Kim, who wants to be a good mother, is absent for her LA photoshoot of Kimono, her new shapewear line. Yadda yadda yadda, she envisions a vintage take of an infomercial to commemorate her mother's first foray into the reality scene…
But the REAL REAL drama comes at the end of the episode with that deliciously juicy “To Be Continued…” cut because… apparently… Kim is accused of “culturally appropriating” the Japanese outfit known as the “kimono.” The mayor of Kyoto even calls her to voice his complaints. Note that the first assistant we see when Kim’s Kimono meeting is shot is Asian. She doesn’t bring anything up, herself, creating a narrative of: why did we need to worry. Anyway, better wait until next time to see how this unfolds. Though we already know: Kim renames her line “SKIMS.” How lucky is she to have such a versatile name to fit into any brand!
My number one takeaway is this: memory conforms only to present reactions in relation to the past. In other words, going back to a place becomes a redemptive stance. If only I could return to that time and do it again… this can be done and is done three times over in this episode. We return to places of loss, confusion, major wrongdoing, and each time, we leave revitalized by the knowledge that we have grown, even if just in relation to the odd fact that such places have not….

Translate: The definition is to express the sense of words or text in another language, be expressed or be capable of being expressed in another language, or perhaps to convert something or at be converted into another form of medium. Translation is almost like a journey except trying to get somewhere to another place usually within the human language and communication between one another. For example another definition of it translation is actually move from one place or condition to another, and then it also goes into the idea of cause a body to move so that all its parts travel in the same direction without rotation or change of shape. Like I was saying the journey is all about change, whether it's physical change or change in our language world. The identity and the idea to turn it into a ones own or another language, nowadays it's an ideal talent especially in the workplace to be able to form sentences in other languages meaning that your communication skills are strong in other forms than your own. a dictionary that translates words from one language to another, as a bilingual dictionary; or to several languages, as a multilingual dictionary. This idea can help educate and teach a new version of a language or a completely new headset of skills in further educating them and and pushing them on on with what skills they already have and gaining more. to practice translation or make a translation also : to admit of or be adaptable to translation a word that doesn't translate easily, to undergo a translation. These are the ideas of a translator a person who has taking up the opportunity at to communicate others in a different language after already have heard what they are supposed to say. You will normally find people who have this job description will have multiple language opportunities to share with you. In art I can imagine a painting always has its definitions meanings and contextual information hidden inside whether it's it's straightforward or something that's not quite so obvious. To translate a piece of artwork is to create and between it and figure out what they are at work mean, finding it meaning and successfully stating it. Translation in itself involves interpreting the meaning in text or when it comes to art, imagery and the subsequent production of a new meaning, equivalent to the original but in another language or in this case imagery . It is, in fact, a written transposition of concepts from one language into another. Translation must be sensitive to the moral, spiritual values associations of the words and symbols in the language to find meaning equivalents. The values dimension is where some of the worst translation confounding takes place. It is exactly the same in sense of art form and nature as it proposes itself a definition.
Tumblr media
These are some images I was able to find looking into imagery produced by the idea of translation, translate. The idea of how something that is a full form can change into another identifying as a different source I especially liked the almost glitched photography and that is produced in the the lower left corner above. This shows that there can be two sides of the same thing program or the language which is also expressed in the middle of the the right side column where the dark figure appears to be bleeding out or someone peeling out information from any part of the body that they can. This idea seems very graphic and horrific however I think it works really well at with the idea and theme of translate. And then going on to looking at the idea of the bottom right corner I found this expression of translate to be actually quite intriguing because it's the idea of the inner animal the spirit that lies within and maybe rebirth. The idea of what is meant to be. Identity in the human spirit represented by the face. This idea means that we have two ideas are humane and are animalistic that each lie within our identity is our bodies ourselves we need these forces to act as one as they are 1-in us together they produced the best part of ourselves. If I'm perfectly honest this idea and concept seems very like and it reminds me of the Indian civilization back in Australia all those years ago I still find that the ideas that they have produced pop up every once in a while.
Tumblr media
Generating a few more ideas I have looked into synonyms and what other ideas are generated from translate it was quite interesting how the same word but put differently can infuse the brain and generate more ideas, it also has engaged me more into the idea of using the theme translate because giving me a deeper understanding each word that has been produced into the mind map below. And the inspiration that I have been given a by the imagery above is quite unique to its qualities.
Tumblr media
Environment: To define the word environment means that it is primarily about the idea of surroundings or conditions in which a person or animal or even plant lives and operates in, the main idea is about survival for the living creature whether it is a plant or a being. it means the setting or condition in which a particular activity is carried on and this idea particularly focuses on the idea of living like I mentioned survival. the surroundings or conditions in which a person, animal, or plant lives or operates, focusing mainly on  the setting or conditions in which a particular activity is carried on and  the overall structure within which a user, computer, or program operates. However I particularly review the word environment to mean the natural world, including this whole idea as a whole or in a particular area, especially affected by human activity. impact and incredible definition we have created into the world is really quite frightening to me and it is often. we have shaved the landscape. I'm finding this idea incredibly fascinating, the way the world can contain is living organisms through its own environment. Such a heavy impact on any living organism, storm microscopic to global in extent. This idea shows the extent of the organisms living here on earth, how some can survive the same environment and others need their own. It also shows the incredible differences of survival in all these things, take the tree frog at for example... able to survive a couple of hours, doubtful it would. What if we looked into the idea of the composition of an environment. The compression of the environment is quite interesting and we can classify it into two main categories which are, firstly the natural universal resources like surroundings built up of things such as trees or stone or this could even be snow it depends on where the environment is based, but these are resources that are not man-made and this includes water, climate, air, electric charge, magnetism, radiation, as well as physical phenomena such as lack of boundaries or land. For us our environment would be an  environment can facilitate or discourage interactions among people for example, an inviting space with comfortable chairs and privacy can encourage a family to stay and visit with a patient. The environment can influence peoples' behavior and motivation to act. earth is our environment as well as many other creatures. I love the idea that we actually need everything that surrounds us including all things that echoes in everything that is.I look at this idea as if we are a community home need each other to be able to survive. Survival is all relative when it comes to this subject and the truth is we do in fact it need each other. I think this is quite a harmonies fact.
Tumblr media
I don't view a sense of reality in this. I find the colours so incredibly playful and vibrant feeling each one of these illustrations or even joy and perfection in character that it no longer is real. To  put it ever so simply I just don't find any sense of reality within these illustrations above, I see the colours and how much joy and vibrant they bring into the illustration, me incredible playfulness and vibrant feeling each one of these illustrations or even enjoy and perfection in character that it is no longer real. It looks like it's made of a fairytale world, a lie that you would tell your children to get them to drift off to sleep it looks too magical and perfect and as we know that nowadays the world is simply not this. Although they are a joy to look at a simply aren't what I would call a real and this idea with bugging me so to find a piece of imagery that I could personally work from I decided to look into an environment more fit for a human being or what we believe we should be living in. Ended up looking into at the idea of buildings and structures. This is a familiarity to me but unfortunately it isn't as a bright and peaceful and though looking at the building in the middle on the very top row it is a very beautiful the way the lights twinkle and the peacefulness that you can feel on the street of the middle picture at the bottom. Because it this is a familiarity to us we have a sense of tranquility towards it.
Tumblr media

And the inspiration that I have been given a by the imagery above is quite unique to its qualities.
Tumblr media
Identity: This is a massive concept especially newer days for human beings because of the intelligence we can produce identity becomes an overcomplicated and worked concept that a lot of the time it has became human nature to work on and struggle with because it is defining who you are. the idea is simple but thanks to the unique qualities of each of us we very quickly complicate the idea to the point of misperception. The fact of being who or what a person or thing is but like I have said this is no longer that easy, the characteristics determining who or what a person or thing is. characteristics are known as  a feature or quality belonging typically to a person, place, or thing and serving to identify them, then there are physical characteristics. A quality or feature that is characteristic of someone or something is one which is often seen in them and seems typical of them. The characteristics of a person or thing are the qualities or features that belong to them and make them recognizable. Genes determine the characteristics of every living thing. …their physical characteristics. A quality or feature that is characteristic of someone or something is one which is often seen in them and seems typical of them. But everyone has their own special individual characteristics because it is apart of everyone and everything's identity. It can also mean  serving to establish who the holder, owner, or wearer is by bearing their name and often other details such as a signature or photograph or  a transformation that leaves an object unchanged. An element of a set which, if combined with another element by a specified binary operation, leaves that element unchanged. Or perhaps it can belong to a group , the awareness that an individual or group has of being a distinct, persisting entity. The fact or condition of being the same as something else for an example a couple and this idea goes hand in hand with  The fact or condition of being associated or affiliated with something else. identity nowadays involves your details  like contact details, name , marital states, anything tat others can use to identify you, email, usernames and passwords are extremely common in this modern age. But there are also different types of identity, numerical identity, which is the property of being one and the same individual,  qualitative identity, the state of being the same in nature, quality, etc. then you have the idea of foamily which relates to what I said about couples, that relation that holds only between any entity and itself, an assertion that that relation holds. If I'm perfectly honest i view identity not so much as a state but more rather a belief that someone holds about themselves. Symbols help shape and communicate the beliefs, values, and knowledge of a culture or an individual. Understanding how identities are formed helps promote understanding and respect for different perspectives. If we look into symbolism of identity the idea if the face appears a lot Identities are sometimes indicated by the triple bar symbol ≡ instead of =, the equals sign which for me is unusual because surly a person= their identity. Anyway going back to the idea of the face I think this leads us to the expiration ‘The eyes are the windows to the sole‘ This popular phrase is related to the Bible verses Matthew 6:22-24 that says, “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light.
Tumblr media
These are some pieces of imagery I have found displaying the idea and concept of identity, the reoccurrence of symmetry is the face and the distorted features which signifys the idea of unknown identity or uncertain. A lot of the artwork that I see involves hidden identity I particularly like the illustration of the two faces crossing over. The idea of overlapping identity is one I think many people are inflicted by. This idea almost acts as an optical illusions diverting the eye back and forth as you try to identify what face is the original. I then went on to the idea of the bleared face, lacking of identity for hoiden one. this ideas lead to a lot of questions and i find them realy quite mysterious. a face less person is a scary idea because it is the face that you use to identify a person and it is unnatural along with unsettling. but below the bright colours bring them back from this idea a bit. the word silenced comes to mind.
Tumblr media
Generating a few more ideas I have looked into synonyms and what other ideas are generated from identity it was quite interesting how the same word but put differently can infuse the brain and generate more ideas, it also has engaged me more into the idea of using the theme identity because giving me a deeper understanding each word that has been produced into the mind map below. And the inspiration that I have been given a by the imagery above is quite unique to its qualities.

Revolution: To me is an act of war, closely relating to the idea of a civil war, a forcible overthrow of a government or social order, in favour of a new system,  the class struggle which is expected to lead to political change and the triumph of communism. a dramatic and wide-reaching change in conditions, attitudes, or operation. In political science, a revolution  is a fundamental and relatively sudden change in political power and political organization which occurs when the population revolts against the government, typically due to perceived oppression (political, social, economic) or political incompetence. Revolutions have occurred through human history and vary widely in terms of methods, duration and motivating ideology. Their results include major changes in culture, economy and socio-political institutions, usually in response to perceived overwhelming autocracy or plutocracy. Scholarly debates about what does and does not constitute a revolution center on several issues. Early studies of revolutions primarily analyzed events in European history from a psychological perspective, but more modern examinations include global events and incorporate perspectives from several social sciences, including sociology and political science. Several generations of scholarly thought on revolutions have generated many competing theories and contributed much to the current understanding of this complex phenomenon. Revolution, in social and political science, a major, sudden, and hence typically violent alteration in government and in related associations and structures. The term is used by analogy in such expressions as the Industrial Revolution, where it refers to a radical and profound change in economic relationships and technological conditions. Though the idea of revolution was originally related to the Aristotelian notion of cyclical alterations in the forms of government, it now implies a fundamental departure from any previous historical pattern. A revolution constitutes a challenge to the established political order and the eventual establishment of a new order radically different from the preceding one. The great revolutions of European history, especially the Glorious (English), French, and Russian revolutions, changed not only the system of government but also the economic system, the social structure, and the cultural values of those societies. Revolutions do share common features, however. One is that they are fast-moving. In a short time, often just a few years, a revolution can bring about significant change and upheaval. Most revolutions are driven by people and groups inspired by hope, idealism and dreams of a better society. These revolutionaries attempt to change or overthrow the old order while the old order strives to maintain its power. The outcomes are confrontation, conflict, disruption and division, which can lead to war, violence and human suffering. Eventually, the revolutionaries emerge triumphant and set about trying to create a better society. In most cases, this proves much more difficult than they had anticipated.  All revolutions are unique to their times, locations and conditions. They do not follow a single plan or model. Despite this, several revolutions have followed a similar course: they have unfolded and developed in stages or phases. Some of these phases are discussed below.
Tumblr media
looking at this artwork you can see that this is very clearly surrounded by the concept of Revolution and pulling people back letting the community find what they really need out of the government, it is also showing the idea of voicing concerns and how they feel they are being controlled it's happening to their emotions towards this idea has a very powerful affect, however I don't particularly see alarge comparison in these ideas they are all very different and this is primarily because of the idea of Revolution each Revolution is different and unique to the own situation that the community and has been involved in. however I don't find these ideas very fascinating they are a little bit predictable. Too easy to understand I like the figure of little bit of mystery in my work and let there be some hidden meanings which can later be discovered and make my heart work a little more fashionable in the idea of focus. Level these designs don't fit in properly with the type of work that I would be very dirty get me thinking about the idea of how people can voice their concerns especially the concerns of the community very dirty get me thinking about the idea of how people can voice their concerns especially the concerns of the community, I began looking at the graffiti art because it's a type of communication between the community because it stains the walls of the community it's a canvas that provides a bigger audience. Whoever by looking into this idea I did find that it was quite a lot of typography involved and still not my style of artwork therefore this concept still does not interest me into you using it in my final project.
Tumblr media
Generating a few more ideas I have looked into synonyms and what other ideas are generated from Revolution it was quite interesting how the same word but put differently can infuse the brain and generate more ideas, it also has engaged me more into the idea of using the theme Revolution because giving me a deeper understanding each word that has been produced into the mind map below. Interior/exterior: Interior Design is the definitive resource for interior designers, architects and other design pros, featuring groundbreaking projects, innovative new products, real-time design industry news, exclusive in-depth research and more. Offering print, digital and events, Interior Design is the design authority in the B2B design market, constantly focusing on the idea of homes buildings and environments that are suitable for a human being. It is all about space movement and flow of a person to understand a person you can understand this space this concept sort of links to and the idea of environment what makes people happy in the hands and how they want their homes to feel. First, it is essential to understand user behaviors and desires to create functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces. The organization of movement is a starting point, which can be achieved through basic layout manipulation. This division of space can be accomplished through walls, but also through furniture and even objects. At the same time, interior design must pay attention to comfort conditions (whether thermal, lighting or acoustic), as well as ergonomics, which dictates the best dimensions for furniture and objects. Finally, the specification of coatings and materials constitutes the most visible and superficial part of interior design, but is no less important. This final touch composes the face of the project, transmitting the designer's vision as well as the desires and needs of the users. There are so many details and that provide more and more evidence that why interior design works the different types of people for example I have previously mentioned about the lighting and different attitudes of people everything plays a part in how a home should feel. Each colour that is presented in a roof can represent different things to different people and show a display of emotions that work for some people and not for others. If it's lovely how interior design can be so unique because it is adapted to specific people. The layout of a project is, briefly, the positioning of equipment, furniture, and objects, whether fixed or mobile, in the space that is being designed. An adequate distribution can organize the flow of space, create places of permanence, and generate hierarchies of space. It is especially in open architectural plans, where the designer has more freedom, that interior layouts are most essential for the proper functioning of the project. Exterior is the complete opposite of interior it means forming, situated on, or relating to the outside of something, the outside surface or structure of something relating to the concept that we previously looked at, surface however is a mainly related to the word outside, it is an out of being. Exterior designers are professionals, who produce ideas to make your outdoor design unique, practical and aesthetically pleasing; whilst remaining within budget. Exterior design provides a sophisticated compliment to the architecture of a dwelling, or space. By integrating Nature and man-made structures, the home can be expanded into the outdoors. Exterior design is the process of designing the buildings. It is one of the most important areas which needs experts to take care of the home. Exterior can be just as creative and artistic as the interior.

Looking into at some imagery in the idea of interior design and exterior design of course I found some designs of homes and the exterior of some homesI find the idea of interior and exterior design really quite special because it's going to be unique to each person however I was not surprised by any of the imagery I found because it was predicted or just ab houses and layouts of them.the exterior design was about space yet making sure there was a lot of greenery and freedom in that and and I just wasn't surprised. So then I began to think what if the exterior designs made their way inside. What if we could bring the outside world in in. I managed to find a few installation artworks that have managed to do just that one of the installations I've already used in the imagery known as environment the top left of the images below is an art installation that shows the outside world been brought in I think it's very fresh and beautiful idea I have also previously looked at the installation on at the bottom right-hand corner I found this a very intriguing idea and quite inspirational all of these images that I've been able to collect. I believe by looking at this injury has inspired me quite a bit and this has the potential to be one of my 5 words or perhaps at my final word for my concept of this project, simply because of the inspiration I gained from it and the familiarity I have towards it because of a course it can involve my own home.
Tumblr media
Generating a few more ideas I have looked into synonyms and what other ideas are generated from Interior/exterior it was quite interesting how the same word but put differently can infuse the brain and generate more ideas, it also has engaged me more into the idea of using the theme Interior/exterior because giving me a deeper understanding each word that has been produced into the mind map below. And the inspiration that I have been given a by the imagery above is quite unique to its qualities.

Manifestation: The word ‘manifestation' means to create something or turn something from an idea into a reality. In psychology, manifestation generally means using our thoughts, feelings, and beliefs to bring something to our physical reality. But even this definition of manifestation doesn't fully get at what manifestation is. This definition allows us to rely on both science-based and more spiritual practices, which can really help us when we're trying to figure out how to manifest what we want in life. The ability to create something from just idea very closely with the idea of artwork manifest teen into something especially in the centre of installation artwork. Manifestation Art, or MA for short is the use of creative faculties such as poetry, illustration, painting, music, design, sculpture and just about any other mode of creativity with the intention of bringing into being a deviceful representation of something which you desire to be, do or have in your life. We use MA as a gateway to create a feeling, or an actual physical representation of something we wish to acquire in our near or not too distant future. To truly understand how MA can work in your life, you need to first understand what is often called “The Law Of Attraction” or “The Art Of Manifestation". The idea is that by creating this mental image and feeling the feelings associated with having that which is desired, you create a sort of emotional link between the not here yet and your present state, you begin to act as if you already have that which you desire. Then because you have such a strong mental image and emotional connection to it, your subconscious begins to attract that which already is, and a path to your desire is created, synchronicity and “luck” move in mysterious and amazing ways to bring you closer to your desired object. But going back to just the idea or manifestation, it means an event, action, or object that clearly shows or embodies something abstract or theoretical, the action or fact of showing something and  a symptom of an ailment, a version or incarnation of something or someone, and then it can mean an appearance of a ghost or spirit. A manifest indication of the existence or presence or nature of some person or thing; a manifestation of disease, indication of something that serves to indicate or suggest; an indication of foul play, indications of strain, symptoms are the prime indicants of disease. Usually, we want to manifest things that improve our happiness and well-being. People generally talk about manifestation as the process of using thoughts, feelings, and beliefs to bring something into reality, but given the science behind manifestation, it seems important to also include actions as a key part of the manifestation process. Of course it is the same in art nothing can happen without you acting on an idea that you have whether it's drawing painting or maybe modelling you need to take action onto your Ford's so it manifest into more than just an idea. There actually is science behind the idea of manifestation—that is, turning an idea into a real thing, research by Dr. Carol Dweck clearly shows that believing you can do something makes it more likely that you'll successfully do it. Importantly, this research suggests that if we truly believe we can achieve something, we are willing to do the hard work to achieve it. There has also been research showing and supporting the idea that our expectations, positive or negative, tend to be confirmed. This is what is known as a self-fulfilling prophecy. So if we expect to bring our idea to life or reach our goal, we're more likely to. It makes sense when you think about it, we prefer to be around positive, optimistic people. And being around people with a negative attitude, It's off-putting and doesn't lead us to want to help these people. It is all about the positivity.
Tumblr media
Looking into imagery on manifestation I expected a lot of spiritual looking into the way of the universe and and God like presents, however I found quite a lot of fun little pop art ideas. Doodles that explore a lot of colour and a lot of fun possibilities and ideas which I quite enjoyed however they weren't quite my style of art then I came across the idea of the the female form and what the female form can produce ie a baby. The thought that a woman can birth a baby is a very powerful idea how to humans can create another life however I still didn't gain a lot of inspiration from this idea, it was in fact the top right image that I found quite inspiring how a lifeless planet is surrounded by the imagery of life. I like the idea of what if all of a sudden life could manifest on the moon and what is actually stopping the change. I also liked the exploring colours that were able to pop and surround the cold surface of the moon. I feel at these ideas are quite lovely and and I couldn't really work well from the inspiration they're providing.
Tumblr media
Generating a few more ideas I have looked into synonyms and what other ideas are generated from Manifestation it was quite interesting how the same word but put differently can infuse the brain and generate more ideas, it also has engaged me more into the idea of using the theme Manifestation because giving me a deeper understanding each word that has been produced into the mind map below. And the inspiration that I have been given a by the imagery above is quite unique to its qualities.

Daily reflections:
today I have a continued my research on to the 10 concepts to find the one in particular that I want to use for my project. The ones that really caught my eye today was the idea of environment, and interior/exterior. They are very similar concepts however I think I can find some large differences and explore them if I went into these ideas even further with research. I like the idea of home because it displays such differences about each individual person. And the imagery that was given to me when I explored the idea of interior and exterior has it give me a lot of inspiration for some installation art works absolutely. This can absolutely boost my grave into the one that I desire by going into the idea of installation off works. I have the inspiration to create a massive project and my own wallpaper decorating a room. I've always been interested in the idea of interior design because I like the idea of how other people can feel comfortable in a alienated space for another.

Sanctuary
Acrylic on Canvas
January 2016
After several months of stress and the biggest art block of my life so far, I decided to go back to the start, before the block began and recreate a piece that I had to destroy. This is my inner world, a place where I can go to inside myself to calm down and create new ideas, with the difficulties that are added onto my life because of my Aspergers’ Syndrome it is a nice relief to disappear into this world when the real one simply becomes too much, the idea came from a life long obsession fairytales and fantasy world’s such as, J. M. Barrie's Neverland, and similar works. The waves in the piece are transpositions of Katsushika Hokusai’s The Great Wave off of Kanagawa.

and you’re probably thinking well yeah a lot of fairytales were incredibly short and you could really fill in the blanks a lot or characters weren’t fleshed out (lots of fairytale characters ARE 2D) or at no point did they strictly state that x was a y. Or whatever you want. The point is when there isn’t much material you can play around with extending and changing it in a lot of ways while still keeping like essential things that are associated with that particular fairytale in order to adapt it into something else
And you’re right. But it’s not just fairytales. It’s older books too, often things that are considered ‘classics’ like romeo and juliet or pride and prejudice (there’s more I just don’t read these types of books so I’m not as familiar). It’s fine to turn pride and prejudice zombie but how would you react if they turned the hunger games zombie as the main adaptation into film?? you know? That’s so interesting to me. Most people would NOT be happy.
What’s also interesting that I just realised is it’s almost like fanfiction has filled in the spot of anything other than transposition adaptations. Because if I do a quick search on ao3...I can find multiple hunger games zombie au’s. Something to think about.
adaptations are so interesting bc you can change pretty much any fairytale however you want and people are like yeah cool gonna go see cyclops zombie Cinderella interesting concept but with books/films coming out these days people are like iF YOU EVEN CHANGE ONE SCENE I’LL REFUSE TO WATCH/READ IT

By the way, speaking of the erasure of actors with dwarfism... Right after I have been hit by this Time Bandits mess, I have just watched the trailer for the live-action Disney's Snow-White. And... honestly all of the problems talked about and issues raised before seem truly non-significant compared to what I actually got out of this trailer. Which I think is the real problem with this movie.
The feeling of... unecessary. I watched the trailer, and I was left with nothing out of it, except a neutral "Why would they make that?" coupled with a tired "Why would I watch it?" Because there was nothing in this trailer that encouraged the audience or gave the audience the desire to go watch it if they already knew the original movie.
Here's my point: when the whole Disney live-action movies trend started (I am going to say "live-action remakes" to differentiate it from older live-action movies like the excellent 101 Dalmatians live-action movie), it worked with an immense success. Why? Because these movies had something to them. Yes they reused classic movies and stuck to them... but in their own, unique way and they didn't hesitate to change things up, to differentiate themselves from it. The most obvious being the Maleficent movie, which was a literal "perspective flip" with a ton of new stuff (moral reversal, backstory given to a villain, anti-villain situation, etc) ; but even the Cinderella live-action "remake" worked hard on having its own style, not hesitating to change the design of some key characters (Lady Tremaine would be my main example). Thus, they worked extremely well. Whether you like them or not, you can't deny they're their own thing and stand up on their own.
Cut to today. I am going to use mainly Disney's remakes of The Little Mermaid and Snow-White (though I could also use stuff like Aladdin or other movies). What's the difference? These movies are remake. Absolute remakes trying to stick as closest to the original as possible: same story, same shots, same designs. They are basically... transpositions. Sure there are some changes (in The Little Mermaid, making Ariel a different skin color and having a whole Caribean style) but they still feel very minor compared to all the efforts made to stick to the original animated piece. Compare the Lady Tremaine case above with Ursula or the Evil Queen in those live-action movies - there isn't an effort to reinvent the character to better fit a live-action universe or a different style of story. They are both created as an attempt to reproduce the original cartoon design as faithfully as possible. And this is what I mean by how "unecessary" these movies are feeling right now. They are literaly just retelling the same story, with minor changes. It feels like so much money and effort and special effects and acting is being thrown away at just... a repetition o what we already have instead of creating anything new.
It's not like Disney run out of fairytales to work with! Imagine that, we could have had a whole new range of live-action fairytale movies! But not it is just... recreating the exact same shots, over and over (I was particularly puzzled by how they worked so hard to recreate the shot of the Evil Queen going down the stairs while having her cape float behind her. You put a lot of effort to recreate this old animated shot, okay... But what's the point? Why would I pay to watch this same shot in live-action when I already did tons of time animated?)
In fact this is why these live-action remakes are bound to feel inferior to the original animated pieces - precisely BECAUSE they are trying to recreate and stick to the original... while being limited by budget and real-life physics and visuals, meaning they will have to tweak it slightly in unsatisfying way. If they had decided to go with their own style and stuff it wouldn't have been a problem (again, Disney's Cinderella live-action, the two Lady Tremaines feel like different characters and thus it is easier to separate these things and look at each on their own).
(It also doesn't help that Disney has been working a LOT of doing live-action versions of their own characters before, from Once Upon a Time to Descendants, so again... trying to recreate exactly things is just bound to cause unpleasant comparisons).

Fairy tales in BD: Les Racontages de M'Sieu Perrault
Tumblr media
The title of this youth BD is extremely hard to translate. It means "Les racontars de monsieur Perrault", "The gossips of mister Perrault", but with the words badly written, as a young kid would tell them, with on top a pun with "racontage" mixing "racontard" (gossip) and "contage" (telling tales, as in "fairy tales").
Created by Pog and Stéphanie Léon, this "cute/feel-good" BD reimagines famous fairytale characters as children belonging to the only class of a bizarre school lost in the middle of vaguely magical woods. And Mister Perrault (named after Charles Perrault) is the newly hired teacher who must adapt himself to his quite excentric students: Greta, a miss-know-it-all (Red Riding Hood), Garou, a mute boy who was raised by wolves (Big Bad Wolf), Flammèche, the pyromaniac daughter of firefighters (Little Match Girl), the Goret brothers with quite unfortunate names - Fart, Burp, Smelly (Three Little Pigs)... Hopefully he is himself a bit of an excentric man.
The various interactions, incidents and events that take place during the "school year" (purposefully out-of-time in an anachronical world) are transpositions of the characters' various fairy-tales ; but everything is of course very softened since it is a "feel-good" BD aimed at kids. The teacher and his students learn to cohabit with each other and work as a peaceful and fun school-class, learning and accepting each others' difference, while mutually helping themselves get through hard times.
There are currently four volumes, each one focusing on a different season (the first one is called "Autumn Marks" because it deals with the beginning of the school year/return to school, after the summer vacations, in autumn). I haven't read this BD (and I don't intend to), but I will point out how infuriating it is when all the reviews of this BD present the fairytales in the story as being written by Perrault... when almost all of them come from Grimm, Andersen, Collodi and more.

The Mother Goose Mystery (2)
So… what about Mother Goose in fairytales? And what’s her relationship with France? And where does she come from?
Tumblr media
You see, before the English reused Mother Goose for nursery rhymes in the second half of the 18th century, she was known only as a fairytale figure.
The real apparition of “Mother Goose” in the world of literature was through the most famous French fairy-tale author, Charles Perrault, who published at the very end of the 17th century his set of fairytales under the title “Histoires ou contes du temps passé, avec des moralités” (Histories or tales of past time, with moralities) before renaming it afterward “Contes de ma Mère L’Oye”.
“Mère” is mother. “Oye” is the old spelling of “Oie”, the French word for “goose”. “Contes” literaly means “tale” but also means “fairytale”, as in a “fairy tale” is a “conte de fée” in France and by extension “conte” became a word synonymous with “fairytale” as a whole. So the title of this book could be translated as either “Tales of my Mother Goose” or “Fairytales of my Mother Goose” depending on the level of anachronism you wish to have. When Perrault’s tales were first translated in England in 1729, the title chosen was a mix of the previous two: “Histories or Tales of Past Times, Told by Mother Goose”. So Mother Goose did hit the English shelves BEFORE the apparition of the nursery rhyme book. But Perrault’s translated text would only be published in the United-States in 1786 – around the same time the nursery book was published.
Tumblr media
Another interesting fact about the long history of the “fairytale mother”: Charles Perrault was not the only fairy-tale teller of France at the time, and he was not the only “most popular and famous one”. There were two famous and popular fairy-tale tellers: the other was Madame d’Aulnoy. She was much more prolific and just as well-known as Charles Perrault in her time, but then history kind of forgot about her and she became lost to mainstream media and public knowledge, while Charles Perrault took the entire spot (again, another woman erased from history – even though today everybody works to bring her back to the spotlight). Now when HER fairytales were translated in English, mysteriously, for a strange and obscure reason, they were translated as the fairytales of a certain… Mother Bunch. Mother Bunch, a fictional folkloric archetype of the old woman that told youth all the traditional secrets and advice to find a husband or a wife, or the grandmotherly storyteller of pleasant humoristic stories or folkloric tales – based on a legendary alehouse keeper of Elizabethan London renowned for her great age and very strong ale. Why this transposition? For two reasons. One is that when Madame d’Aulnoy became very popular in the English-speaking world, historians looked at her life which was one hell of a ride (basically she tried to murder her husband because he was a violent piece of shit, had to flee with her mother through all Europe to avoid prison, and there was much more scandals at the time that made her a very extravagant character). This led people to compare her to the folkloric “Mother Bunch”. The second reason was that, as she was paralleled to Perrault, they needed a counterbalance to “Mother Goose” – and so they used Mother Bunch. Mother Goose and Mother Bunch were the “fairytale duo”. There’s also a lot more reasons analyzed and studied by university articles, but I’ll let you search these on your own.
Now, if we return to “Mère l’Oye”, the original French figure… Where does she comes from? A Wikipedia search won’t help you much because you’ll find that the expression “comme un conte de la Mère L’Oye” (like a tale of Mother Goose) did appear in French chronicles in 1650, several decades before Perrault would publish his fairytales, proving that la Mère L’Oye was a common expression in 17th century France and already associated in common culture with “contes” (tales/fairytales). Fun fact: “Mère L’Oye” doesn’t exactly translated as “Mother Goose”. If you want to be hyper-precise, you’d have to translate as “Mother The Goose” because that’s what the “L’” stands for. “Mother Goose” would be “Mère Oie”.
Tumblr media
Anyway, so as I said, a quick Wikipedia search won’t help you at all because it lists ALL the theories people had across time about the so called “historical identity” of Mother Goose, with nothing conclusive.
In the 19th century, Jacob Grimm (of the Grimm Brothers) identified Mother Goose with a series of goose-grannies and swan-women often called “Bertha” or a variation, found across German, French, Latin and Italian culture, and being a good German-centric folklorist, he claimed that the root of this figure was an old German legendary figure: Perchta also known as Berchta, who shared all the characteristics of spinning/weaving (I’ll come back to that later), being close to children and being close to geese. However Perchta was a much darker take on this archetype: Perchta was an old goddess of the Alps, from German and Austrian culture, whose name meant “the bright one” (or maybe “the hidden, the covered”) and that was a spinster-figure tied to the twelve days of Christmas and the feast of Epiphany. Known by many different names (including the poetic “Lady of Ember days” she could appear either as a beautiful white-as-snow maiden, or as an elder haggard hag, but she always had one large foot similar to the one of a swan or a goose. She roamed the land during midwinter and entered homes during the twelve days separating Christmas from the Epiphany. She was a keeper of the domestic and social taboos: she checked if the children and servants of the house had behaved well and worked hard during the year, to reward them with a small silver coin, or punish them by slitting their bellies open and replacing their guts with straw and pebbles. She also thoroughly checked if girls had spun all of the flax or wool they had to spin during the year, and punished those that ate forbidden food during her feast day. This notably led birth to a midwinter-cult where people left food and drinks for her in hope it would bring abundance and wealth.
Of course, the fact that the fairytale Mother Goose might be a descendant of Perchta can be seen as a bit of an outstretched conclusion – especially when you know that for the Grimms everything had to be German and Germany was at the center of everything. But there might be a common cultural ground, somewhere. In fact, Katherine Elwes-Thomas, in the 20th century, proposed another theory a bit more grounded than the one of Jacob Grimm but that forms the “missing link” between Perchta and Mother Goose: she theorized that la Mère L’Oye might have been based upon a historical queen of France (which already makes more sense that fetching a German goddess to explain French expressions). Berthe de Souabe, known in English as Bertha of Burgundy, who was also called “La Filandière” or “La reine fileuse” (The Spinster or the Spinner Queen). Queen of the Franks, wife of Robert II the Pious, there was a whole iconography about her spinning thread (in fact a common expression in medieval and Ren            aissance France was “of the time the queen Bertha was spinning”, which means “in an old, past time”).  Elwes-Thomas pointed out that in the legend of the spinster-queen, some tales claimed the queen was also “spinning” wonderful tales that charmed children, and that another nickname of Bertha was “Berthe pied d’oie” (Bertha goose-feet).
It should be noted that the “goose-feet” of Bertha of Burgundy (which I found nowhere else mentioned beyond Elwes-Thomas’ report) actually feeds a confusion between her and another Bertha queen of the Franks: Berthe de Laon, Bertha of Laon, also nicknamed “Berthe au Grand Pied” (Bertha with the Big Foot, in English “Bertha Broadfoot”), so called because she apparently had a clubfoot. It is commonly agreed that Bertha Broadfoot is tied to the legend of Perchta, but how is unclear. Did the historical figure influence the goddess, or was the nickname given to the queen in reference to the goddess? (As the Franks, partial ancestors of the French, were Germanic tribes whose empire went from Germany to France). Wife of the famous Pepin the Shot, Bertha Broadfoot was most notably the mother of one of the most famous figures of France history (and European history as a whole), Charlemagne, king of the Franks, founder of the Carolingian Empire, the first emperor to rule western Europe since the fall of the Roman Empire, and starter of what would later become the Holy Roman Empire.
This are all the theories about a “historical” Mère L’Oye, courtesy of Wikipedia, but to be honest, they are all just unclear theories that keep circling. The most probably explanation is that “Mère L’Oye” was never based on one specific figure, but just born of a wider cultural background of which Perchta and the Bertha queens are just ingredients. Hell, some people even want to claim that Mother Goose comes from the Queen of Sheba, the Biblical figure, due to one legend claiming that, as she was part-djinn, she had an ugly animal foot under her dress… That’s a really crazy theory.
Tumblr media
Now, given I am studying French fairytales at the university, I actually have by my side a professional, expert-edition of Charles Perrault’s fairytale by a renowned authority on fairytale literature (Tony Gheeraert). So let’s look what he says about the whole “Mère L’Oye” topic, shall we?
So, what Tony Gheeraret explains is that the choice of the title “Contes de ma Mère L’Oye” was part of an editorial strategy to make it seem like those literary fairytales were directly taken from the “countryside repertory” and the “grandmothers folklore”. Indeed, in the Dictionnary of the French Academy of the time, when you look at the article “conte” (tale) you have a mention of “those ridiculous fables that old people use to entertain children” and we have a list of their names. ”Tale of the old wolf”, “tale of the donkey skin”, “stork tales” or… “tales of my mother goose”. And in the article about “oie” they do precise “Contes de ma mère l’oie” as “the tales to entertain children”. And Gheeraert concludes that… the origin of those expressions is actually unclear. We don’t know where those names comes from for certain. We have medieval traces of “tales of my mother goose”, and Rabelais did use the term “stork tales”, but to be fair “Mère L’Oye” wasn’t an actual character or figure in French literature of French culture. She was just an expression… until the British turned her into a character.
Another very interesting fact: I wrote earlier that Perrault’s tales were originally called “Histoires ou contes du temps passé” (Stories or tales of the past time) before being reprinted as “Contes de ma mère L’Oye”. This is what Wikipedia claims, and it is true. But it oversees another important detail… “Contes de ma mère L’Oye” was the original name of Perrault’s text. It was the title of his manuscript, before he changed it for the official publication as “Histoires ou contes du temps passé” – but while he changed the title for the publication, he didn’t had time to have the illustrations of the book changed, and they still bore the title “Contes de ma Mère L’Oye”, which resulted in the title surviving and replacing the other in future editions.
