Into, Across and Beyond!: Shared Universe Mentions
So just yesterday, I got praise from @robovoidfrog for the inclusion of their character in IAB!, and I'm honestly chuffed to get this feedback! So through this post, I just wanted to talk about the prospect of the shared universe idea between this project, Funkinverse and the original Spider-Verse trilogy.
NOTE: None of the mentioned points are canon to either of the projects outside of IAB! unless stated otherwise.
So first off, as you saw through the aforementioned post, The X not only had a run-in with this project's Quill Society, but he also seems to be the most remotely aware of the nature of film fics based around Spider-Verse. A lot of these indeed kick off with that world's iconic hero dying and someone else having to take their mantle for them, which leads them into quite the whacky crossover situation.
In this continuity, some things are different for the Funkinverse storyline due to what goes on with the base FNF universe here. For instance:
Boyfriend died long before through the events of Mario's Madness, and a universal reboot is what gave way to Benjamin.
Though, like in canon, BF's WI and Twinsomnia incarnations are generation counterparts in the base FNF universe, they're also separate counterparts in Funkinverse (Twinsomnia's BF being Brooke's little son).
Softie/Benjamin Fairest's counterpart in Funkinverse is separate to the one who's linked to IAB!'s FNF universe.
As Benjamin had befriended several of the other BFs and GFs (those from B-Sides, D-Sides, Neo, Minus, B3 and Arrow Funk specifically), any of those that are linked to the Funkin' Society are quick to understand after Cam's hostilities that Salty's in the right for aiming to save his legal guardians from The X and quickly switch sides against Agent Blueballs' ideals for canon events.
The Sky counterpart encountered by the Funkin' Gang is a more hostile variant compared to ErrorSky, who changed her ways after enough time.
As mentioned above, The X was successfully detained and neutralised by the Quill Society post-Funkinverse, but the fact that it took FOUR of its members to detain him, compared to just two (Pana and SS!Amy) detaining Speedy in his Chaos Emerl guise, speaks volumes of how he is indeed a threat on par with The Spot and Crimtake.
As Beyond the Spider-Verse isn't out yet, we still don't know whether or not The Spot was successfully beaten.
Sunday ending up with protanopia after their encounter with The X didn't sail well with Carol, Benjamin OR Grace, hence why Benjamin calls him out on it. To think it was all because of a little disagreement about breakfast foods.
The Childhood Memories universe canonically NEVER encountered the Corruption (which is apparently a canon thing, according to Agent Blueballs), and even if it did show up, it'd never effect any of the children's shows. Yeah, get lost, Pibby kids.
In the IAB! continuity, Lexi Robin ended up defecting from the Funkin' Society after seeing just how wrong everything is, and she was rooting for the Funkin' Gang and Benjamin's crew from the sidelines.
After Cam's clash with Benjamin, Soft Pico and Neo GF (their original counterparts) sided with Benjamin in a bid to get their boyfriends back out of the Funkin' Society and back to doing the right thing in general.
Identically to Funkinverse, there's a lone repeat customer that the therapist of the bunch dislikes. For Funkinverse, it's the Boyfriend/Keith from Earth-666 (I Can't Sleep) who Softie dislikes, whereas in IAB!, CD Alt Ending Sonic's disliked repeat customer is Charlie (the Sonic from the god-awful "Sonic 2 Lost Prototype" fangame). That said, he does try to bear with the guy's emotional turmoil, though the other major therapist of the Quill Society, Sara, seems to have caught on as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In terms of the Gangs' members having possible canon interactions:
Miles, Salty and OMT!Tails would definitely help learn from each other on how to better protect their respective worlds, and also find solace in the fact that they were all treated as anomalies at different points.
Peter B., Brooke and CR!Sonic would be the doting dads after their first outings and talk quite a bit about their sons/daughters.
Gwen, SNS GF and OMT!Mina would be a sort of comfort group to each other, considering their rough pasts and how broken each one is deep down. Gwen, having been most successful thus far, would definitely be the beacon of light girl the other two clearly need.
Noir, Toon BF and Mini Sonic would interact quite a bit about the Rubik's Cubes that they were given as souvenirs, and their different reasons for admiring the cubes.
Spider-Ham, Mobian BF and Mr. Needlemouse are definitely the kind to goof around with their cartoon antics. That said, with the lattermost being the biggest prick, he is prone to being called out for it by the other two, though barely giving a care about it.
Peni, Aloe and EX!Alice are the tech geeks of their respective dimensions and would love sharing their robot-building (maintaining, in Aloe's case) knowledge with each other.
Hobie and the D-Sides versions of BF and Mighty would find common ground in their ideals of screwing over intended consistencies and going their own way in life.
Pavitr, Golden BF and Black Knight Amy would have a way with each other being the naïve newcomers of their respective teams, and BK!Amy, harbouring the most experience, can share some tips for her companions.
The Sonias and CR!Manik would be happy to look after Mayday and Twinsomnia BF, due to them both being toddlers. Them being children sporting superpowers makes it click more.
Margo, Boom, Nicole and Nine could bond from their computer-based knowledge, and the majority could also aim to lift Nine's spirits if he's feeling a bit down.
So that's pretty much the basic gist of things. Another few tidbits:
Of those instigating the canon events, between four candidates: - Melanie / MP (the kid pictured below), despite having tried this himself, didn't do it willingly, and was forced into it by so-called "superiors" who got the short end of the stick big time from Nitro, even after their passing made it look like they could get away with it. - Miguel and Agent Blueballs, despite their cruel methods, at least have good intentions in mind for their approach, but go about it the wrong ways that alienate those around them. - Lost Memory Sonic is the only one of these four to stoop lower than the others would've done, and actually tries DESTROYING universes to maintain the status quo.
Tumblr media
(Art will be updated when @mcgamejolter finishes it)
Of the major protagonists between the three universes, OMT!Tails is the only one that's rarely had to use his nanomachine gear to disguise his identity with. That said, he has used it when he visited the dimension of the Hues of Metal (Dimension HoM-2023), and the suit's robotic sheen actually FOOLED the robots. At least, until LM!Sonic was driven away from their base (apparently for, as Rocket Metal put it, being a stereotypical Australian tourist).
In the above point's case, Metallix is the one to catch out OMT!Tails when they're alone, though is ultimately overpowered... from OMT!Tails mentioning that a certain web series isn't officially canon, causing Metallix to go poof from existence. Again.
Despite being a supposed "canon event", Sonic.EXEs are surprisingly quite rare to see in universes that aren't meant to have them, like with the Corruption, Darkness and Venom Symbiotes. That said, the first documented case of one showing up in a Sonic universe in the Quill Society logs is in the Sonic Robo Blast 2 dimension (Dimension SRB-1998), a universe that doesn't even have a canon appearance of the demonic entity.
After "Rivals' Madness" (my unofficial expansion/sequel to Mario's Madness/Vs. Sonic.exe (RERUN)), several of the worlds encountered are their own universes, so the characters within are not solely bound as digital slaves to Ultra M, Xenophanes OR 2011!X.
Related to the above, pretty much all the major cast of FNF ended up dealing with the mess of Ultra M and Xeno in that one adventure, most of which put up with one enemy each; Sophie from Left Behind for Tankman, Mr. L, X.nes and Requital for Pico (the lattermost he fights again later), Stranger for Skid and Pump, OMT for Mommy/Martha Mearest, Awe's Chromophobiac for Senpai, and NMI (No More Innocence) for Daddy/Daniel Dearest.
There are alternate versions of Heaven AND Hell in the IAB! multiverse that aren't solely bound by the Christian bible's depictions. For instance, there's a genuinely friendly community in my version of Hell, which an alternate version of Benjamin dubbed "Keith" discovers after his passing.
Akin to @thestrongestjewel's Eepytale, the Frisk, Chara and Asriel of the IAB! continuity have been living together for some time, albeit independently from adoptive parents like Toriel. Kris also spends some time with them as the biggest sibling of the group, akin to their role in @akanemnon's Twin Runes series.
The full list of those lives lost to the "canon event" theory are as follows:
OMT!Sonic, OMT!Vanilla and OMT!Sally (OMT!Tails)
Uncle Chuck (Crossover Realm Sonic and Extraterrestrial Encounter Sonic)
Sonic and Tails (OMT!Mina)
Caffrin (EX!Alice)
Marc Smith (Nitro; he couldn't even avert this in the Rewritten universe)
Sonic (Antho and Mobiverse Tails)
Amy (ChaosIIUniverse Sonic and Sonia)
ALL of his friends (Hog)
Silver (Lost Memory Sonic)
Tails and Amy (CD Alt Ending Sonic)
The original Boyfriend and Girlfriend (via the original FNF universe's events that led to its rewrite)
Cassandra (both from a tactic Pico pulled to end his school's terrorism early in the new timeline, and for good following the Corruption's events)
Proto Man/Blues (alongside Wily, Bass and Treble) (Mega Man/Rock; these four lost their lives to a rogue Zero build who remains shut down to this day)
For now, that's all I can really discuss. Took me some time to think about all the stuff I could mention here. Until the next post, have a great day/night!

last three movies you’ve watched: so the Important Cinema Club podcast hosts 24 hour movie marathons on Twitch and the latest one was specifically movie musicals, the only one I saw in full was Cats on Park Avenue/Kôendôri no nekotachi which is a 1989 Japanese movie about a neighborhood’s street cats and a group of girls trying to put on a musical about the cats and it is Perfect. besides that I didn’t watch any of the movies in full but the ones I saw the most of were The Haunted Castle/Das Spukschloss im Spessart which is a 1960 German film about a young woman who lives in a castle with ghosts and apparently the beginning is batshit insane but I showed up like 10% in. And the one I saw maybe an hour of was Winter Evening in Gagra/Zimniy vecher v Gagrakh which is a 1985 Russian movie about a guy who wants to be a tap dancer. If we’re not counting the ones I didn’t see in their entirety then it’s The Color of Money and Holes lol
four movies on your watchlist: I need to FINALLY watch RoboCop, and also need to watch The Wrestler if only to see fuckin Necro Butcher and also Claudio with hair in a movie. and then uhhhhh I’ve heard good things about I Saw the TV Glow. and speaking of important cinema club I wanna watch one of the Farley-Roxburgh movies, probably Magic Spot
last three songs/artists you listened to: Nineteen by Charly Bliss, Little Chaos by Orla Gartland, and I Just Think I’m Smart by Wild Party
four songs/artists on your to-listen list: I want to listen to Sydney Sprauge just from hearing her lyric “stone cold stunner, homestar runner”, I keep meaning to listen to Redveil, I mean I listen to Everything Everything but I need to listen to their newest album, uhhhhhhhhh I can’t think of anyone else atm
last three books you read: I have fallen completely out of the habit of reading for over like seven years i think it’s all stuff for the podcast. Checking storygraph yep it’s Holes, Wide Sargasso Sea, and Fairest
four books on your tbr: okay so I’m reading two books I need to finish so I think they count as tbr, I need to finish Lady Audley’s Secret by Mary Elizabeth Braddon and So Many Beginnings by Bethany C. Morrow. Zoë recommended Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko to be and that looks cool, and I also have an ebook of A Far Wilder Magic by Allison Saft that I’ve never gotten around to
I’ll tag @reyantilles @all-chickens-are-trans @sirenofthetimes @greatestvoyageinhistoryofplastic and anyone else who wants to do it!

Rules: share the first lines of ten of your most recent fanfics and tag ten people. If you have written fewer than ten, don’t be shy and share anyway.
Thank you for the tag @amethysttribble!
In a shabby tent at the end of the world, there was a carpet spread across the ground. (in the breaking)
Angrist was forged by the greatest of the Dwarf-smiths in the master-workshops of Nogrod. (the fairest stars if that counts)
He stands, the cold grey sky above him, the wind carrying the scent of salt and smoke and blood, his sword held loosely against the throat of a small dark-haired boy. (but two remain)
Sirius Black was a beautiful child. (Toujours Pur)
Charlie woke to find his mouth was intolerably dry and his tongue felt like sandpaper. (After the Funeral)
The first time is the worst; of course it is, this is it, this is the moment that will forever divide his life into before and after. (Deathbeds)
Faramir sleeps. (The Manner of His Return)
Everything else I already have published is very old and not really worth reading so I'll share three opening lines from upcoming WIPs instead!
In the great stone hall of Himring Ever-Cold there had been, of late, an uncommon level of bustle and activity. (a currently untitled thing)
Idril is staring at the ground when the light comes. (all the world lay then in wonder)
Fingon had a tent to himself in Araman – a modest little thing, as far as they went, with none of the finery of his father’s, nor the spaciousness of Turgon’s, who was sharing with his wife and daughter. (The Unburied)
Ten people sound like a lot to tag, especially after this has been going on for a while, so here are 7 since I only technically did seven of these: @arrivisting, @cycas, @pearlescentpearl, @leucisticpuffin, @that-angry-noldo, @tathrin, @potatoobsessed999 (no pressure, and sorry if you've already been tagged!)

Tough Love (The Villains Lair) (Minecraft Villains Version)
Alvar:
Ever since I was a boy my own father vowed I must find the way to power through a noble brow I married once for love, then my senses came I must marry for the stature of my wife's name Onto marriage number two I knew what I had to do And my poor wife was killed in a year or two Solved problem number one, now to problem number two Her doe-eyed little boy with gentle point of view
Would I ship him off to school? No! I told him if he stayed that he'd have To earn his keep and so he became the maid
Charlie and Joey:
He was lazy He was crazy He was talking to the mice
Alvar: Janis was hopelessly naive, so he had to pay the price I moved him to the attic out of sight and out of mind I could have thrown him out, but I'm benevolent and kind
Charlie and Joey:
Sire, your heart's too big for you!
Alvar:
I knew what I had to do After all, difficult children will take advantage of your good nature
So you lock them up from away the key There's one on every family tree
Charlie and Joey:
Ungrateful Hateful Vile too, the things he put you through
Break their spirit so they obey Now they'll do anything you say Maybe you'd call it cruel but others would call it love Tough love
I ask you, is it a crime to strive for perfection in all things?
Walda:
Oh no, they're so cute when they're little but Then they grow up and just ruin everything
I never wanted children, life was better on my own All the screaming, nagging chilled me to the bone But then one day I came across a flower growing free It's magic kept me young, so I kept it all for me But someone dug it up, now a baby held the power So I "borrowed" him, locked him up and hid him in a mansion, Years went by, Oh, the sacrifice And against my better judgment, I fed him once or twice Teenagers now I know I wild eat their young But that's messy Manipulation's easily more fun A little guilt, a lot of force of course you have to lie Remind them that without you, they'd shrivel up and die
They only have themselves to blame If you'd been there, you'd do the same
Walda:
So work them hard 'til they fall in line There's one way and it's only mine The children are lazy Spoiled too
Alvar and Walda:
But we know what to do Govern them with a heart of stone Lock them up, so they're all alone Maybe you'd call it cruel but Others would call it love, tough love
Herobrine:
Ugh, his own room with a water view and He runs away, the first change He gets?
Alvar:
These wretched brats think the World owes them something, but it doesn't..
Herobrine:
Far and wide I rule the kingdom with a heavy hand But there was more, I had in mind a greater plan I never cared to share, so my brother would have to fall But his "child" blocked the way to me and "Fairest of them all" He was chubby, He was dumb And grotesquel optimistic He needed structure in her life He wasn't realistic I give him chores and took away the things that he'd enjoy But then I caught him singing songs with birds and then a girl Love? Was I just sit by and wait? For him to take my crown? No He had sealed his fate He had to go, and so he did and you know what They say, "An apple once a day keeps your enemies away"
All:
Don't be fooled by their tender smile Give an inch and they'll run a mile
Our idea for a happy home Is one where we live all alone Dark Depressing Desolate Now let's all drink to that Call us wicked call us mean Cruel and everything in between You could say it's unjust Turning their dreams to dust This is what we call love, tough love!

This is going to take a while to unravel, so bear with me. Everything is so intertwined, it is difficult to split into sections. This sequence will be in two or more parts.
Galadriel’s arc in season one revolves around her task.
"[Sauron] sees Galadriel, and knows that what she needs more than anything else is to find the evil that has plagued her for so long, and save Middle-earth." JD Payne, The Rings of Power Podcast 1×08
Remember that according to Patrick, “character after character in the show” tells Galadriel that her obsession is not a good thing. One thing we know with certainty: Vengeance cannot satisfy it.
Her task is directly associated with two things: 1) the dagger, and 2) the mark that Sauron carved into Finrod’s flesh.
Tumblr media
While it makes sense on the surface (or to someone like me, who had not read the books before watching the show), there is much more than meets the eye. From Galadriel’s perspective, the dagger is special because it was Finrod’s, and (it is assumed) she views it as a symbol of his task—now hers. However, on The Boat, we see a peculiar attachment as she struggles to let go.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The reason behind this is simple. “The most important truths often are,” says Finrod, but we must learn to discern them for ourselves; JD and Patrick will not always be there to speak them to us.
First, we trace this back to the source.
Tumblr media
In response to this, Sauron poses excellent questions, with which we may begin. He most certainly knows the answers to every single one by this point, which means each question is rhetorical. It would not be the first time he interrogates in this manner. But what is he trying to accomplish in the workshop conversation, specifically?
He is trying to make her think.
Tumblr media
Referring to the season finale, Charlie Vickers reveals that Sauron wanted Galadriel to figure out who he was.
Do you think he wanted Galadriel to figure it out? "Yes. He’s ready for her to see him for who he is, and he thinks she’s ready to know it." Charlie Vickers, The New York Times
We will return to this idea later. Now that we have established that every question is rhetorical, let us thoroughly answer each one:
Tumblr media
“What do you know of darkness?”
Galadriel first touched the darkness as she mourned over her dead brother; but for her, ‘touching the darkness’ was more than figurative.
Tumblr media
Yes, Sauron could have seen (or perceived) this memory as it flashes through her mind, but he somehow knew about this moment before. He triggered this memory for a purpose: to make her stop galloping, and give herself a moment to think.
He is trying to tell her something, while giving her room to figure it out, herself.
Tumblr media
“And there, in the darkness … “
Tumblr media
” … his vow … “
Tumblr media
” … became mine.”
Next question. It is no wonder that Sauron knows who the dagger belonged to, but to mention it as a follow-up seems like an answer, in and of itself. It is as if to say: “This is what you know of darkness.”
Tumblr media
“Whose dagger was it, Galadriel? Who is it you lost?”
Answer: Her brother, Finrod Felagund, who was the High King of the Elves at the time of his death.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“What happened to him?”
Wow. We have suddenly been asked an extremely loaded question. Galadriel gives the short answer:
Tumblr media
“He was killed in a place of darkness and despair, by servants of Sauron.”
This is a wonderful summary, but even Galadriel asks, “Is that enough for you?” She knows (as well as we), how long it would take to explain.
… But Sauron asked for it.
Tumblr media
We must make an attempt. This is one of the most crucial pieces of information. A gander in The Silmarillion answers this question more fully; (and oh boy, is it a long one). We shall delve deeper into the story of Beren and Lúthien.
WHAT HAPPENED TO FINROD?
There is so much to cover, but we will dissect as much as we possibly can. Let us begin a bit before Beren’s arrival in Nargothrond, for a little background (taken from The Silmarillion: Of Beren and Lúthien).
King Thingol loved and cherished his daughter, Lúthien, above all things. When she brought Beren before him, he said “in scorn and anger”:
‘Who are you, that come hither as a thief, and unbidden dare to approach my throne?’
Insults were exchanged, lives were threatened, and at length, Thingol said to Beren:
‘Bring to me in your hand a Silmaril from Morgoth’s crown; and then, if she will, Lúthien may set her hand in yours. Then you shall have my jewel; and though the fate of Arda lie within the Silmarils, yet you shall hold me generous.‘
To which Beren laughed and responded:
‘For little price do Elven-kings sell their daughters: for gems, and things made by craft. But if this be your will, Thingol, I will perform it. And when we meet again my hand shall hold a Silmaril from the Iron Crown; for you have not looked the last upon Beren son of Barahir.‘
Thus, Beren undertook a daunting task, indeed. A while after his departure, he saw Nargothrond afar off, and “being destitute, without hope or counsel, he turned his feet thither.” The Elves of Nargothrond were aware of Beren as he traveled through.
But knowing his danger he held ever aloft the ring of Felagund; and though he saw no living thing, because of the stealth of the hunters, he felt that he was watched, and cried often aloud: ‘I am Beren son of Barahir, friend of Felagund. Take me to the King!’
The Elves surrounded him, but spared his life, and bowed to him upon seeing this ring. They led him by night “lest their paths should be revealed […] to the dark gates of their hidden halls.”
The stage has been set, and we switch gears momentarily. Galadriel explains what she thinks is Finrod’s vow in the beginning of episode one:
Tumblr media
“My brother vowed to seek [Sauron] out and destroy him.” Galadriel
Considering that Galadriel has a habit of assuming things, and jumping to conclusions in the first half of season one, it is understandable that this is not Finrod’s true vow. [Sauron also has a habit relevant to this, which will be discussed later.]
Finrod did make a vow, though, and it came “upon him for his death”; just not for the reason that Galadriel thought. She had to have gotten her belief from somewhere (there are some possibilities, but let us not get sidetracked). This part of the story was not changed for the show; there is a purpose for this. [I do not believe the Tolkien Estate would have allowed something like this for no reason. You will see why.]
Tumblr media
First, we must go back to Dagor Bragollach: The Battle of Sudden Flame.
[…] King Finrod Felagund, hastening from the south, was cut off from his people and surrounded with small company in the Fen of Serech; and he would have been slain or taken […]
Tumblr media
[…] but Barahir came up with the bravest of his men and rescued him, and made a wall of spears about him; and they cut their way out of the battle with great loss. Thus Felagund escaped, and returned to his deep fortress of Nargothrond; but he swore an oath of abiding friendship and aid in every need to Barahir and all his kin, and in token of his vow he gave to Barahir his ring.
The Silmarillion: Of the Ruin of Beleriand
What was Finrod’s true oath? It was one of “abiding friendship and aid in every need to Barahir and all his kin.” What is the token of his oath? Not the dagger. It is his ring, which he gives to Barahir. It is eventually passed down to Aragorn.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Knowing Finrod’s true oath, let us return to Beren’s arrival in Nargothrond (again, taken from Of Beren and Lúthien).
Thus Beren came before King Finrod Felagund; and Felagund knew him, needing no ring to remind him of the kin of Bëor and of Barahir. Behind closed doors they sat, and Beren told of the death of Barahir, and of all that had befallen him in Doriath; and he wept, recalling Lúthien and their joy together. But Felagund heard his tale in wonder and disquiet; and he knew that the oath he had sworn was come upon him for his death, as long before he had foretold to Galadriel.
Tumblr media
“But you must learn to discern them for yourself. I won’t always be here to speak them to you.”
Tumblr media
“You won’t?”
Tumblr media
Ow.
“Behind closed doors they sat,” it says. A crucial detail. Finrod’s conversation with Beren was in secret.
Beren, being the son of Barahir, fell under the ‘kin’ category in Finrod’s oath. Finrod had to help Beren with this task (which was to retrieve a Silmaril from the Iron Crown of Morgoth, and bring it to Thingol), and knew that it would spell his own death.
He spoke then to Beren in heaviness of heart. ‘It is plain that Thingol desires your death; but it seems that this doom goes beyond his purpose, and that the Oath of Fëanor is again at work. For the Silmarils are cursed with an oath of hatred, and he that even names them in desire moves a great power from slumber; and the sons of Fëanor would lay all the Elf-kingdoms in ruin rather than suffer any other than themselves to win or possess a Silmaril, for the Oath drives them. And now Celegorm and Curufin are dwelling in my halls; and though I, Finarfin’s son, am King, they have won a strong power in the realm, and lead many of their own people.’
This next statement is the key.
‘They have shown friendship to me in every need, but I fear that they will show neither love nor mercy to you, if your quest be told. Yet my own oath holds; and thus we are all ensnared.’
Finrod basically said: “If we tell anyone about your task, your life is in jeopardy. If your life is in jeopardy, I must protect you. Thus, revealing the details of your quest would start a war.”
It is interesting that this scene cuts from Finrod’s statement straight to this:
Then King Felagund spoke before his people, recalling the deeds of Barahir, and his vow; and he declared that it was laid upon him to aid the son of Barahir in his need, and he sought the help of his chieftains.
Finrod did not say what Beren’s specific need was. Yet, Celegorm still repeats the oath of his father (because a ‘great power’ was moved ‘from slumber,’ by Thingol simply mentioning the Silmarils in desire). The following statement shows that if the details of their mission were revealed, the outcome of Finrod’s announcement would have been far worse.
Then Celegorm arose amid the throng, and drawing his sword he cried: ‘Be he friend or foe, whether demon of Morgoth, or Elf, or child of Men, or any other living thing in Arda, neither law, nor love, nor league of hell, nor might of the Valar, nor any power of wizardry, shall defend him from the pursuing hate of Fëanor’s sons, if he take or find a Silmaril and keep it. For the Silmarils we alone claim, until the world ends.’
Proof of the threat of war:
And after Celegorm Curufin spoke, more softly but with no less power, conjuring in the minds of the Elves a vision of war and the ruin of Nargothrond.
Then, their land was darkened, and the sons of Fëanor (having their hearts darkened) wanted to usurp the throne from Finrod.
What does all of this entail? It means that there was room for rumors to be spread, and assumptions to be made, as to why Finrod helped Beren, and what the task was. Finrod’s was an oath of friendship; why did Galadriel say something that was rooted in vengeance?
Threat of treason did not sway Finrod from fulfilling his oath. “I must hold my bond,” he says. He and Beren, with ten (very) loyal companions set out. They came upon a company of Orcs, slew them, and by the arts of Finrod, thoroughly disguised themselves as Orcs. They came “far upon their northward road, and ventured into the western pass, between Ered Wethrin and the highlands of Taur-nu-Fuin.”
But Sauron in his tower was ware of them, and doubt took him; for they went in haste, and stayed not to report their deeds, as was commanded to all the servants of Morgoth that passed that way. Therefore he sent to waylay them, and bring them before him.
In other words, Sauron noticed some suspicious activity from these twelve supposed Orcs, and had them brought to him. Thus, the contest of the songs of power took place between Finrod and Sauron, and “the King was very great; but Sauron had the mastery.” Finrod lost, Sauron stripped them of their disguises, and “they stood before him naked and afraid.”
The question: ‘What happened to Finrod?’ will be answered in a few moments. As you read the following, ask yourself why he died.
But though their kinds were revealed, Sauron could not discover their names or their purposes.
He cast them therefore into a deep pit, dark and silent, and threatened to slay them cruelly, unless one would betray the truth to him. From time to time they saw two eyes kindled in the dark, and a werewolf devoured one of the companions; but none betrayed their lord.
Sauron obviously knew of the existence of Finrod. However, he clearly did not know that this particular Elf was the High King.
One might say that Finrod’s task is one of the most important things in the show, considering Sauron tortured and killed to know it (along with his identity). Even though he never found out, he still sees things, and therefore perceived something.
In the pits of Sauron Beren and Felagund lay, and all their companions were now dead; but Sauron purposed to keep Felagund to the last, for he perceived that he was a Noldo of great might and wisdom, and he deemed that in him lay the secret of their errand.
Unfortunately for Sauron, saving Finrod for last meant that Beren would have to go first. This brings us to Finrod’s end. Why did he die? Because his task (and identity) were kept secret, and he was bound by an oath.
In answer to your question, Sauron …
Tumblr media
“What happened to him?”
Here is the long answer.
But when the wolf came for Beren, Felagund put forth all his power, and burst his bonds; and he wrestled with the werewolf, and slew it with his hands and teeth; yet he himself was wounded to the death. Then he spoke to Beren, saying: ‘I go now to my long rest in the timeless halls beyond the seas and the Mountains of Aman. It will be long ere I am seen among the Noldor again; and it may be that we shall not meet a second time in death or life, for the fates of our kindreds are apart. Farewell!’ He died then in the dark, in Tol-in-Gaurhoth, whose great tower he himself had built. Thus King Finrod Felagund, fairest and most beloved of the house of Finwë, redeemed his oath; but Beren mourned beside him in despair.

It's nice to have someone interested for once. ”
@themosthatedbeingg Hazbin Hotel Prompts
Tumblr media
What a very weird choice of words. Michael can’t say he was… interested in the way that Lucifer wishes he was, but he was interested in general. In the answers that it can give him, in the things he might be able to understand just by studying the place. Or, perhaps, did his brother mean he was interested in Lucifer himself and not the Hazbin Hotel? Because that would be more accurate, but he was always interested in his twin. Just because they had a fall out (if that is what that can be called), doesn’t mean he ever lost interest in him.
If that was the case, he wouldn’t have Lucifer’s violin and sewed duck in his office. He would have gotten rid of anything that reminded him of his siblings. Instead, he kept those things and buried himself underneath his work to try and ease the pain in his chest.
The thing about his reason for being down here, was it–was kind of selfish. The questions that all of this had risen in him, that continued together in layers beneath him, he wanted to find the answers to them. No, not wanted, needed to find them. He was hoping that the answers he got down here would help direct him back onto the proper path. He trusted himself to be able to do that, but he needed to find his answers first. Which was the reason he was interested in the hotel and down here.
Lucifer didn’t need to know that though. Part of which was his fear of confessing to the literal devil that this entire situation had caused doubt in him over things in Heaven. Not a very good thing for the Leader of the Archangel to confess.
Which left him in an awkward situation of not entirely knowing what to say to his twin. Which was something that wasn’t unfamiliar between the two of them, that empty silence that Lucifer himself tended to fill with ramblings. He was good at that, finding words for the both of them, but in this case–surely he wanted something. Surely he wanted Michael to convey that he was actually interested. In listening to him, listening to his daughter, trying to understand everything that was going on out of the kindness of his heart.
Tumblr media
Taking a deep breath he adjusted his papers in his hands and curled them up against his chest. He shifted forward in the chair he was in and raised his gaze to his twin. They were in his office, Michael had been asking some general questions to understand the hotel, and–things dissolved into this.
He wondered what was going through his twin’s head. He didn’t trust him, right? There was no way that he would open up to Michael again. Want to get to know him and have him close again. Trust after what was broken between them, wasn’t so easily repaired like that and he understood that. He would honestly expect, until the end of whatever end there was, that Lucifer wouldn’t ever trust him again.
   It was entirely warranted.
“I–” he pressed his lips together and shifted in place. “My interest is purely selfish, Lucifer.” Honesty, and admission to a sin more or less. “Let that be what it is, I will still give Charlie the fairest assessment of this that I can. No matter what the end result will be.”

2024-04-27: Dockery Farms (Town)
Dockery Farms (sometimes called Dockery Plantation, but usually just simply “Dockery”) was founded in 1895 by Will Dockery. It’s located just inside the western edge of Sunflower County and about 2,000 tenant laborers grow cotton on its 28,000 acres. Though Will Dockery didn’t much care for the music of his tenants and shared many of the prevailing beliefs of white men of the era, he had a reputation as one of the fairest men around when it came to wages. Pay at Dockery was consistently higher than at the other farms in the area, which in turn attracted many laborers.
However, the pay was usually made in company scrip that was only accepted at Dockery. Scrip could be exchanged for cash, but almost never at face value. Payday happened once a month and was known as “Furnishing Day,” and saw thousands of people lined up outside the commissary to collect their pay. There are grumblings about the unfairness of being paid in scrip, but any legislation that might stop the use of script is still a few years away (the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938).

Points of Interest
Cotton Gin
Tumblr media
Housed in a barn-sized building with corrugated metal siding, the cotton gin is a roaring monster of wheels, belts, and teeth. Few people who deal with the gin regularly manage avoid losing at least part of a finger during their years of tenure there. It’s a machine to be respected and feared. The ginning process spits out fine clouds of cotton lint that settle on the sweaty skin of the workers, leaving them looking like fuzzy ghosts by the end of their shift. Without the gin, the money doesn’t come to Dockery; and without money, there is no Dockery.
Big Lou’s
Big Lou owns a house just past the one-lane bridge over the Sunflower River. On Furnishing Day (always a Saturday), the bluesmen pay Big Lou to move all the furniture out of his house and set up mirrors and oil lamps so they can perform. While this was happening, the bluesmen would play music for the captive audience of people waiting in line. Although the musical performances while waiting in line were free, the best and most popular music was saved for Big Lou’s house, and you had to pay a toll to cross the one-lane bridge to Big Lou’s house. The toll was split among the musicians who performed that night.

Rail was the best way to get cotton shipped around the country, and cotton farms that weren’t located near big rail lines had to make their own branches. Officially known as the Kimball Lake Branch, nobody calls it by that name. It’s just the Pea Vine, named for its indirect and circuitous route that resembled the unfurling vines of a pea plant. The station in Dockery runs southwest to Boyle, a community about 2 miles south of Cleveland, to connect the Yazoo & Mississippi Valley Company tracks to the Illinois Central. The Pea Vine runs twice a day, making a round trip each time, and functions as a convenient way to reach the entertainment options of Cleveland.
Trulight Baptist Church
Pronounced like “True Light,” this is an all-Black church with a graveyard where many of the laborers would end up being buried. The church was first established in 1906, and the graveyard holds the remains of Annie and Bill Patton (the parents of legendary bluesman Charlie “Charley” Patton).

Honestly, though, that's the fairest criticism I've heard against Tress. Like, I definitely agree that the curse breaking felt kind of hand-wavey and anticlimactic, and even if he didn't want to go there Tress and Charlie both read as very aspec to me anyway. Definitely not worth giving the book only one star, though
I just found a 1-star book review featuring my all-time favorite piece of literary criticism:

Charlie Prince ❦ Fairest
"Oh, I can't give you this," Charlie said, reaching behind herself to leave the script on a side table, "are you kidding? That's only for people in the show. Are you a people in the show?" "You play dirty, Charlie Prince." Ivy chuckled, and for some reason she didn't lean back when Charlie moved even closer than before. "All's fair in love and war, right?"
❦ THE BASICS ❦
Full name: Charlotte Floriana Prince.
Known as: Charlie, almost exclusively, since she chose her stage name at 18. Her parents and siblings still call her Charlotte.
Age: 32.
Birthday: August 15.
Zodiac: Leo ↬ Creative, passionate, generous, warm-hearted, cheerful, humorous, arrogant, stubborn, self-centered, lazy, inflexible.
Sexuality: Lesbian. Out and proud since high school.
Hometown: Greenwich, Connecticut
Family: parents, four siblings (she’s the middle child, and A Middle Child), her dog/soulmate Irish Wolfhound aptly called Horse.
Occupation: actress. She used to be a dancer, but that's been set aside to focus on her acting career. Her online D&D guild friends have no idea TheTiddyPaladin is actually the Charlie Prince.
Height: 5'4''
Build: Naturally slim, though she couldn't tell you if it's genetics or the fact that she's been constantly on the move since she learned how to walk. She's a professionally trained dancer and has the muscle definition to show for it. She will neither confirm nor deny she sticks her favorite thirsty tweets from fans to her bathroom mirror to get an ego boost in the morning.
❦ THE BACKSTORY❦
Charlie Prince is the apple of Hollywood's eye. She showed up seemingly out of nowhere, wearing a spandex suit and a cape for what was supposed to be a minor (very minor) appearance in one of the biggest superhero franchises in the world. Her character was so inconsequential she wasn't even given any rules or recommendation as far as PR and her public image. After all, why would anyone even interview someone who was in the movie for a grand total of five minutes?
Charlie flew out to Vancouver, shot her scenes, and immediately went back to her job at the NYC Ballet. She was almost twenty-five, and she was so close to her first solo at the ballet she could almost taste it. And then the movie premiered. Charlie was invited out of politeness and (she suspected) a need for the cast pictures on the red carpet to look a little less male and white. Charlie was walking the red carpet, happy as a clam to enjoy the glamour of a premiere as one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences, when a journalist stopped her to ask her a question: was the handsome gentleman by her side her boyfriend?
Charlie laughed and then laughed some more, and then she said the words that would turn her life upside down:  "No, no, that's my brother, and I'm really gay. If you wanna come to the after party, though, hit me up."
The flirty wink that followed those words went viral within minutes. By the time the premiere ended, Charlie Prince had become an icon, a social media sensation, and a very real problem for a very large media empire. Her acting career (what acting career?) was on the line, they said, and Charlie nodded politely and went back to her pointe shoes and her rigorous work schedule. Hollywood had been fun for a night, just like the nice reporter whose name she couldn't quite remember anymore. But she was now ready to go back to real life.
But Charlie's words and her wink and her five minutes of screen time simply refused to go away. She started rehearsing for her first solo one week before her action figure hit the shelves of all major retailers. There were petitions for a solo movie, invitations to talk shows and podcasts and fan conventions. An ever-increasing amount of fans -- fan-fans, mind you, not ballet aficionados -- crowding around the stage door every night. The most surreal experience of her life in the form of her own face printed on the lunch bag of a little girl walking to school.
Charlie Prince was famous, and she still had no idea how.
The months that followed were a flurry of experiences Charlie honestly wasn't prepared to process. Everyone knew her. Most people loved her. Some people hated her. Both groups were loud and relentless and seemingly everywhere. She took a leave of absence from her job to spend some time holed up in her family home back in Connecticut with her parents and siblings, who were delighted to remind her she was still the same old Charlotte. Still getting into trouble for not thinking before she spoke. Still so very different from her quiet, academically-oriented family.
When her agent called her to talk about a solo movie and a recurring role in the big franchise crossovers, her parents laughed and told her to not be silly -- ballet was her life. She'd devoted twenty-five years of her life to it. She had the skill and drive to make it. Who in their right mind would give up a chance to become a soloist at the New York City Ballet for the glitz and glamour of a Hollywood life?
Charlie Prince, as it turned out.
Once she made her choice and jumped fully into acting, Charlie was an instant star. She was flirty and witty and naturally charming in a way that made every talk show appearance go viral within minutes of it landing on YouTube. She was bold and confident in a way that would absolutely have come off as arrogant in most people, but she somehow made it work. She led blockbuster after blockbuster, and her name became synonymous with box office hits.
If there's one thing Charlie's missing, it's that feeling of being respected for her craft. Superhero movies may make billions, but they're not exactly the kind of credits that give you Serious Actress points. So when they offered her a chance to work in a Broadway show, opposite legendary actress Rhiannon Braeburn? Charlie didn't even think twice.  Live theater is serious enough -- prestigious enough -- to push Charlie from superhero actress to actress actress.
And if it helps distract people from that pesky little lesbian heartbreaker reputation she's earned (and deserved, if she's being perfectly honest) over her seven years in Hollywood?
Well. She's definitely not going to complain.

I was tagged by the awesome @saltwaterbells to make the ladies from Fairest using this picrew:
On the top row we have Ivy Whitely and Rhiannon Braeburn, who both came out looking about 20 years too young. Rhiannon would be delighted to be 30 again, and Ivy would be starting kindergarten.
And on the bottom row, we have Han Forrest and Charlie Prince, done with everything and ready to steal your girl, respectively. I mean Han would steal her too, she just wouldn’t be as enthusiastic about it.
My character creation process is basically my brain swinging wildly from one end of the bright and shiny/dark and twisted spectrum to the other, clearly.
I don’t currently have a tag list for games, so please consider yourself tagged if you want to do this and have fun! (And let me know if you’d like to be tagged in the future!)

The Year of the Fests
Last year (2019), I launched fully into the Damione ship and embarked on a personal 10-fest challenge. I scraped by at exactly 10 fests and 2 drabbles. Yesss. And now for a year of no fests. (Does it count if I committed to one due in 2020 before the year ended?)
10. KyoDreams In Another Life Fest: The Making of Draco Malfoy
Meet the Honourable Mr. Draco Malfoy, rich, entitled, and bored, and the adventures that just might turn him into a reluctant hero. Regency England AU featuring the Napoleonic Wars.
*Runner-Up for Best Fluff in Granger Enchanted Awards*
9. Salt and Pepper Fest 2019: Hot in the Himalayas
Revenge is a dish best served cold. In the icy reaches of the Himalayas, years after their ill-conceived affair, Hermione plots out the steps to her revenge with a few old friends. It just so happens that things don’t turn out exactly the way she plans, not when tempers are running so hot.
8.  DFW's Nikita Gill/Never Apologising For Our Wild Challenge: Coiled, Falling
She's locked in a tower when he finds her, bewitched and imprisoned. Dark Rapunzel retelling.
7. Riddikulus Fest: Boys Over Magic, or Hermione and the S4
The War's over, but not at Hogwarts. Meet the S4, and the Muggleborn witch who's determined to go up against their leader. Dramione inspired by Boys Over Flowers.
6. DFW’s First GOGO Fest: Tempo
Draco's good deed is punished. How bloody typical.
On the verge of a suitable marriage, a chance meeting with a mysterious time witch gives Draco a chance to review his options.
5. TheMourningMadam’s Once Upon a Time Fairy Tale Fest: How to Date an Idiotic Pureblood Wizard
Hermione just knows Draco's up to something in the Ministry-mandated Muggle Awareness Class. She's not going to let him, not if it's going to interfere with her plans to take over the world, starting with one Pureblood at a time. Crackfic tribute to My Immortal.
4. HP Drizzle Fest: Where the Light Breaks
The War was over, and things should have been better—but they weren't. Or maybe they could be. Repeated encounters with an old classmate puts old wounds into perspective.
3. Dramione Remix Round 10: Spinning the Stars
Because of course Hermione Granger would find a way to stopper time if she set her mind to it.
What happens if you manage to solve the mystery of immortality? It's not as wonderful as it sounds when you return to find that the world has continued spinning without you in it, and that everything is changed forever...
*Winner of Reader’s Choice Award*
2. DFW Trope Fest: Pinned
Draco doesn't know what he's expecting when he follows Blaise down a dark alley, but it certainly isn't this. For a man with an addictive personality, this isn't going to turn out well. Assigned trope: Voyeurism. Heed the trigger warnings. WIP.
1. Twistmas - A Dark Xmas Fest: Mirror, Mirror
1999. Eighth year. Something's different about Draco Malfoy. He's kind and courteous, and he even smiles. Ginny is convinced something's wrong with him, but Hermione would rather believe the best of him. He's changed for the better, right? Or perhaps it's something a bit more sinister…
AND two Fairest of the Rare RarePair Drabbles:
Urban Legend
It's just an urban legend about Muggleborn witches, isn't it? Cormac really, really wants to know. Cormac x Hermione. Word count: 500.
Girl of Sun and Summer
There's tragedy at the Dragon Reserve this winter, and Charlie would prefer not to have any visitors, especially not his beloved, meddling younger sister and her tendency to set him up with her friends. Charlie Weasley x Luna Lovegood. Word count: 800.
Now for an entire month of sleeping and slacking off...
