Okay, I'm going to be real with you:

Fae AU is an endgame poly. I purposefully kept it ambiguous in my summarization of the AU since I wasn't sure how people would react to ships outside of Shadowpeach and Iceflower. Count me pleasantly surprised by how everyone likes the Celestial Monkey poly.

Macaque and Shanzha were happily married pre-kidnapping and are proud (adopted) parents of Yue. Macaque's love for his wife and child is what drives his determination to return home. RinRin (a total wingwoman and a supportive wife) decides to take out the competition (Shanzha) and bring over the child (Yue) so Macaque could stay forever.

RinRin sneaks into the mortal realm and the loser ends up falling in love with her target. Cue slowly wooing the mortal disguised as another mortal before luring her into a fairy ring.

I'd have to say that the Warlord AU is messy, but it isn't toxic. At least not compared to the Fae AU, which gets really toxic if Shadowpeach's beginning wasn't a sign enough. Fae don't play nice or fair. While Wukong is head-over-heels for Macaque, he's also selfish and possessive. RinRin shares his traits. They're not kind and their sense of morality is VERY different from mortals. This AU doesn't have a happy ending (for the mortals). The Fae Lords, on the other hand, are very happy.

Using her familiar, Eugene, some of the surrounding nature can be pulled towards his body, morphing into what is essentially a black hole. Once absorbing enough material, Eugene can transform into a pitch black beacon. This solely alerts other magic users in a twenty-five mile radius to her location, and those who are around the beacon during its activation receive is a significant boost in power, along with less blot accumulation. However, the spell cannot be activated while she and Eugene are separated.

A sputtering, gooey, feline familiar with a tendency to absorb anything and everything.

Despite her typically serious and down to earth personality, this has landed her in trouble a good handful of times. She's no stranger to chaos, or the cops for that matter, but despite all of this, she is a gentle old soul with an endless capacity for care. She believes magic is the perfect means to keep her friends and family out of trouble. "No magic" seems like a stupid law in comparison when it could keep them all happy, healthy, and safe.

This belief does come with more downsides than simply breaking the law, though, as her abilities are quite... limited. While Salem has an unending passion for the craft, she also tends to overestimate herself. With her main focus being on fortune-telling and clairvoyance, she will often find herself extremely paranoid by the little things, given the (more than likely) chance her predictions are incorrect. Even with how much this may drive herself and her close ones crazy, she is, in the end, just trying her best.

Author's Note: Salem has been around for awhile- though I never quite use her as often as I should. It felt like everytime I tried to insert her into some new AU, something would come up :P Anywho, She is a rather neutral character. She doesn't care a bunch about morality as long as it follows her own code- which, hey, I guess explains how she could end up with and be exes with Yuu Shi. Aftermath of doomed yuri? ya. There is simply no need to analyze anything in ACOTAR because it's simply not complex writing that requires such efforts? Readers are easily able to understand her writing, whether they have a degree in 14th century English language and composition, or if they just picked up ACOTAR because they saw it on BookTok.

It's easily digestible. That's why it's so popular.

It's why I always am so utterly perplexed anytime I see a PowerPoint presentation or line by line analysis of scenes from these books. It's not that deep? The message of her books is easily understood.

The people diving into her pages, posting line by line analyses and adding their personal interpretation, claiming it as law are so crazy. I've seen so many posts in this ship war saying "oh welllll I have a degree so therefore I know exactly what SJM truly meant to say" are absolutely delusional at this point. Because honestly, how are you going to say you have a degree in English lit and not understand only the author's interpretation and intent is the true authority?

*giggles, kicks feet, twirls hair* Mal... Anyways! Some of y'all probably been waiting for this one! My silly fae prince, whose identity may or may not be based on my own. Sue me, this bitch is hella relatable.

- So, onto the headcanons, I felt like Mal wasn't all that intimidating when he first popped up outside our house. Idk, I see a cat-type personality and all my self preservation is thrown out the nearest window. She's just a big meow. But I wanted them to actually look rather intimidating, making his bangs cover his eyes a bit more, darker makeup, whatnot.

- I know Mal is canonically taller than the rest of the cast but Imma make her even taller. Its 6'6" without the horns and like 6'11 or 7' with them. I want them to be a cryptid!! Also the height difference with Lilia bout to be crazy.

- I like the idea that my prefect made her some lil Howl's Moving Castle earrings, even though it obvious doesn't exist in their world. Or maybe it does??? Who knows.

- *scientist voice* The autism is this subject is astronomical. *cough* Yeah, it's also not up for debate. The gargoyles, the general demeanour. Yuu is their favoured person.

- Malleus and my prefect would probably interact a little differently than Yuu does canonically, as we're both silly little autistic people, but I'll save that for my Yuusona post lol.

- Really tempted to throw in that it has a forked tongue. Does have fangs but Mal and Jamil probably both have forked tongues, j st for funsies.

- Loves to read sappy romance novels, is giggling and kicking her feet at soulmate stuff in particular. Has a whole list of little date ideas in a notebook (totally not saying this because /I/ have one or anything)...

Not mush else to say give I've only canonically interacted with her like three times but now for everyone's favourite grandpa!

- Teehee! So I saw someone headcanons Lilia as Indian and I was SO here for it, though I think he's be half Indian, half Mexican or smth.

- Gave this girl SO many piercing. I feel like she got them 'cause she was bored. Idk, 500 years is pretty old, ya gotta spice things up some how.

- Some scars from 'ye old days'(tm) and I made his hair a bit wavy and added a green gradient to the ends, just to mimick Malleus' hair. Also, this bitch stands a proud 5'3" on a good day (aka with heels).

- He's the kind of dad that makes his kids wear matching pjs during the winter holidays and while he knows his kids like the back of his hand, chooses to give them silly gifts most of the time. Also, he spoils Mal and Silver rotten.

- Absolutely tries to get Malleus to properly flirt with MC but it never works out like he plans. Silver just watches with mild amusement.

- Yes, I was mad he doesn't canonically have a last name. I figured that Lilia would have officially adopted him at some point or another and typically you need a last name for a lot of things so I just gave them Lilia's.

- I think that Silver's gray hair is natural and once it gets to be a certain length, it just becomes gray. Additionally, Lilia's a cool dad so Silver got dyed ends and piercings too.

- I actually headcanon that Silver's blind and has narcolepsy (though that's pretty much canon). It was likely from birth or manifested early on and as a result, Malleus is a bit protective of Silver (and Sebek is too but he'd never admit it lol). He has a service dog, which is probably a cute golden retriever named Aurora, and records lectures to listen back to. He, Kalim, and Ruggie have little study groups as second years. Also, Silver's autistic. Lilia really out here collecting autistic children lmaooo.

- He really likes to knit. Don't ask why but I think he'd enjoy the rhythym of it. (He's made Ruggie and Kalim scarves and both treasure them a ton) He likes to make blankets for Malleus and Lilia as well as himself. He loves to work with the chunkier and softer yarns, especially because it makes keeping track of the stitches easier.

- Owes SO MANY plushies. His bed is half dedicated to them, most probably give to him by Lilia for birthdays and holidays. He loves soft things so all the plushies are like squishmellows and stuff.

Ah, I love Silver. Onto our last canon character,

🐊Sebek Zigvolt🐊

(he/him) - Achillic

Oh boy, this design was such a pain. I literally had to redo it because I didn't like it. Though, in the end, I think it turned out pretty neat.

- On with the physical stuff, I fucked around with his skin tone a bit because it did not look right with his hair in my og design which had a more lime, yellowy green instead of the mint. I made it warmer and ditched the yellow green for the original design's mint, just darker. Finally, I thought I needed a kick of something so I gave him some violet streaks and eyes and BOOM! A Sebek!

- I gave him a bit of a rounder face, I feel like he wouldn't have outgrown his baby chub yet, and a single dimple. I thought it'd be super cute, sue me. Cute lil freckles, the works.

- One thing I am super proud of was his Lichtenburg scar (I believe that's what it's called, I've only really heard in in TMA oops). While I certainly didn't do it justice here, I'll be fleshing it out at some point. I think it's a cool addition to the character based on lighting, maybe his magic accidentally hit him or damaged him at some point idk.

- He is, wait for it... also autistic. Shocker, pun intended. He's actually AuDHD to me and has issues with volume regulation, which is real idk. Would actually also be sensitive to loud noise, as backwards as that sounds. Has noise-cancelling headphones courtesy of Idia. Malleus is his favoured person and he looks up to him a lot.

- Grew up loving dragons and thinking they were like the coolest fcuking things then met Mal and was in awe. Was a totally nerd about dragons as a kid and still has figures and posters and whatnot.

Third Year - (they/she) Genderqueer - Pansexual

She looks like Zelda. I know... but she's pretty!

- Thumbelina is 'twisted' from the loom in the story of Sleeping Beauty. IF EPEL IS LITERALLY AN APPLE, she can be a loom. Anyhow, I made her a fae as well, likely one of the craft fairies, just taking on a more human-sized form. She takes a ton of inspo from the og story of Thumbelina, as a tiny little fae she got separated from her kin and raised by human parents. That's why she doesn't have the 'ick' about humans that most fae have.

- When she got accepted to NRC, Crowley gave her access to a potion that changes her size so she'd be able to attend school easier. Her parents were tailors and so she grew up around sewing but could never do it because of how tiny she was. When she changed sizes, she immediately wanted to try her hand at sewing, official joining (or maybe founding) the sewing club.

- After intially joining Diasomnia and seeing Lilia's piercings, they piqued her curiosity and she got some.

- As a fae, she loves to be outdoors and tends to a garden outside of the dorm. She also rather oblivious when some expresses interest in her as she's not familiar with human courting. Lilia adopts yet another autistic child lmao.

Second Year - (they/he/she) Genderfluid - Asexual Aromantic

- Munkh is my character for the thorns that encircled Aurora's castle. Minorly abstract but hey, cool ass character design.

- They're Mongolian and I wanted the spikey aspect to really shine through, giving them liberty spikes thanks to my friend's suggestion! Wanted to go really punk especially because I haven't really done so in a character design before and I LOVE IT!

- She was originally going to have a Maleficent colour palette for the spikes but it was getting too close to some of the other designs so I made it black and red to emulate roses.

- He's a part of the music club as well, likely a vocalist or drummer. He loves the energy and the people are really cool, plus obviously his vice housewarden's there.

- They're also on the athletic side and enjoy various sports, namely Spelldrive. Also, she does own her own blastcycle and immediately bonds with Deuce over a shared love of them. Deuce and Munkh like this 🤞.

- Kyra's my oc twisted from Tick Tock, the alligator(?) from Peter Pan. I gave her the yellow-green from my original Sebek design and it looks way better here.

- I think as a reference to the clock and like 'ticking', she'd have Tourette's. It sometimes flares up more than others so she has an agreement with the teachers about class times where it's acting up.

- I think she'd have like mild beef with Josephina because they met on a wrong foot during orientation but it's not a huge deal. Probably sleep-deprived Josephina said something insulting Diasomnia and Kyra was like, "What the hell?". They have a friendly competition going on now, every gym class.

- She's a part of the track and field club and is one of the fastest on the team. That being said, she's not a huge fan of physical activity and prefer to read in the library or study.

I remember being kinda nervous about introducing scar way back when in welcome to the circus, because I wasn't sure how he'd be received -- I mean, he's basically introduced as an antagonist right away, and he feels so different from his typical characterization. well. he's not that different, but I certainly lean wayyy more into the intimidating, scary image. and when you don't know a character's motivations for that... depending on the writer executes the writing, you could either be Incredibly interested, or you could write it off as out of character/bad writing. so welcome to the circus was absolutely a HUGE gamble. hell, everything that followed was a big gamble!

but I am so happy with how scar's development went. I think I could've added maybe one or two more one shots right before enchante to add a bit more pacing of scar's development, but overall I really am pleased with it.

arc 2 was heavily focused on scar and his betrayal (which like,,, yeah, obviously @ myself GJFHJFG) my biggest goal when writing arc 2 was showing the readers that there was more to scar than just his cold personality. that there was a reason for his behavior. it's kinda similar to how mumbo was first introduced. mumbo was off as well, though granted his true personality came about a lot quicker than scar's did.

so this arc was about exploring scar's character (and his understanding of/warming up to grian) and his growing internal conflict between betraying grian and mumbo and keeping tubbo safe. I really wanted to get across that at first scar had no remorse for what he was doing. but when he started getting to know grian, being given his kindness, when scar started to let down the walls around his heart, that's when the guilt kicked in.

I love scar's whole battle with his identity -- it's one of my favorite pieces of his character, and something that'll be explored a TON more in arc 3 (and perhaps the reason why that battle is there to begin with 👀) the way I've always looked at is: scar isn't human, but he's not quite fae either. so he's had to carve out an identity for himself; the grim reaper, a monster, it's all the same to him. he's not just standing at the cross between two worlds. he's carving a path between these two worlds -- he's creating a third world, specifically for himself

and I think scar's struggle with his identity is something the fandom as a whole doesn't touch on nearly enough as we should. scar is a man who's constantly wearing a mask, and that mask is everchanging. there's some seriously fun concepts to be played with there! which is exactly what I want to explore in songbird and this upcoming arc.

I also feel really insane about all of the backstory crumbs I've left in arc 2 for him. this one in particular drives me crazy:

if you've ever seen in anime where a character has like. some ominous shadow figure looming over them and they look really afraid or panicked, that's exactly the kind of image I was picturing when writing this scene. and that's kinda what happens here! (one day when mumbo and scar's backstories are revealed, I would love to like. comb through songbird for all of the crumbs I've dropped and explain them)

but scar's character is so complex, and I think that's what makes him so fun. he doesn't operate on human morals, but he very much does have human emotions and a human heart that he buries and AUGH!!!

and I can't talk about scar's character without mentioning enchante, because C'MON. IT'S LIKE. THE SONGBIRD SCARIAN FIC HFGJDFGHJ

enchante is SUCH an interesting turning point for scar and grian's dynamic. mumbo and the boys have been kidnapped, scarian are forced to work together and they don't entirely trust one another, and they're running on limited time. and it's through this situation that they're forced to learn about each other. scar learns just how far grian's kindness goes, how he views the world. and grian starts to get some insight into why scar behaves the way that he does.

we see scar step in to defend grian against taurtis the first time under the guise of being offended at taurtis' bad negotiation skills, and not even knowing himself why he steps in! it's the first time scar sees the depth of grian's humanity and his guilt and his care for the ones that he loves. and then in turn, grian learns why scar is so apathetic and uncaring and there's some sort of understanding the two of them reach. it drives me SO insane fae. I cannot express.

AND THE GRIM REAPER STUFF MMMMMMMMM WE'RE GONNA COME BACK TO THAT. IT'S GONNA BE GLORIOUS. I've got some scar story that are gonna make people go INSANE when I drop it. it makes me want to gnaw on my arm man

songbird!scar is just so delightful to me, and I really love writing him a lot. his relationship to mumbo and then to grian is SO fun to examine, and we'll definitely be doing more of that in arc 3. I'm really glad that people love him as much as I do because <3333

God sorry for the oncoming ramble but just thinking about Superna-troll Floyd has made me crazy. I love Changelings, you have no idea, mostly because of my irish grandmother. But like anyway, Floyd's story is so TRAGIC in so many senses. Like first of all, Changeling's typically replace children taken by fae, so the original couple already lost their real kid to the fae, and then they even lost the Changeling replacement to Brozone's parents, so they're just left with no one at all. At least if they had been able to keep Floyd, there would have at least been a CHANCE that they could have been a happy family, even if raising Floyd would have been difficult (I'm a big believer in the power of a loving family overcoming a changeling's flaws, because lets be honest, that's where the whole concept of changelings probably originates in--families looking for an excuse for their children acting out when it really probably stems from mistreatment and/or a lack of patience from the parents). But like it's also sometimes believed that changelings are placed in a family so they can have a better life than they would have otherwise, so the idea that Floyd was placed with one troll family that might have actually given him at least a decent life, but then he was stolen and ultimately abandoned and left in the worst possible scenario he could have ended up in just because of Brozone's parent's selfishness and greed??? Geeeeez. Poor guy :( I'd love to see someone, maybe Branch, confront him about his mischievous/problematic behavior only to have Floyd absolutely snap at a certain point because literally nothing he has ever done or will ever do will ever be good enough for someone to actually love him, will it? So why should he even try? Okay, I'm done, sorry.

YEAH ITS CRAZY especially because all the brothers struggle with that identity of like. their parents going “okay this one will be the Perfect Child”. floyd’s is also something he struggles with because like. his parents literally STOLE A BABY just trying to get a Normal Kid. and yeah he feels like they were assholes and he wonders who he might’ve been given to but also it tears him in two that his parents were desperate enough to steal a whole ass baby but somehow he still wasn’t good enough for them. they gave up on him the quickest out of the 4 too so it really hit him hard

This game, horse life on Roblox, is nutty

Not only is there a dysfunctional economy but there's also genetics in this game which can change the likelyhood of certain mutations being carried to the offspring, and there are folks who spend hours breeding horses to get a horse with a very specific mutation/color/etc (or all of the above)

Rn there's "glow" horses which look like they took a vacation to a nuclear power plant and went into the glow stick hot tub, and they're priced at 450k-600k which is AVERAGE

10k for a horse is like pennies

The economy is terrible because most of the time these mutations are only acquired through boss fights, usually tier 3 bosses, and you gotta donate a hefty amount of horses to the boss in order to even get a chance to get these glowing freaks

Plus waiting for the foal to be born can take up to 18 real life hours (or if you do what I do,which is spend two hours gathering as many harvestables as possible then feeding it all at once to my horses to make the time go from 18 hours to 2)

God help you if you want to pass down the wing mutation, I kept breeding my winged horse for three days and only got one foal that carried the gene

Best way to make money in the game is to buy a shit ton of woven lassos, catch as many horses as you can hold, sacrifice all of them to the boss, then use the lassos you earn from the rewards to catch more expensive horses

Equuis horses earn you nothing don't bother with them

Bihorses are midrange

Perytons are great for earning, selling them normally is around $200+ a pery

Unicorns are average, I typically sell em for $200 but not much more

Faes are bastards and hard to catch, but worth a lot if you breed them and sell them on the player market

Gargoyles are okay, but hard to come by

Kelpies can be bred for crazy colors and are really popular in the player market

Pink horses used to sell like hot cakes but now don't, ig people got bored of them

Glow horses may sell for alot but nobody gives a fuck about glow perytons, I've been trying to sell two glow perys for days, went from 10k to dropping it to 5k just to get rid of them and not a single buyer

The reason behind that is because it's so easy to breed the glow mutation with them, so they kinda became overpopulated

Though if they have Sakura wings, they sell for a LOT, 20k at least

I can’t help but think about Elain when I listen to Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?

I can’t help but be reminded of the things she endured and the nasty things this fandom has said about her while I listen to this song. So here are some lyrics from the song that is just so Elain coded:

Most people often disregard Elain’s trauma. I’ve read people defend Nesta’s nasty behavior towards other people, they always say that it was because of her trauma. But they would tear Elain to shreds because she spent months in her room, withering away after they had been turned into Faes. That she should’ve just told her sisters what she was seeing instead of babbling poetic nonsense to them and wasting away.

If you could understand Nesta’s response to trauma, why couldn’t you understand Elain? Nesta wasn’t the only one who went through tons of trauma. In fact, it is explicitly stated in the book that Elain was the one who had so much to lose. She was engaged to a human, she was supposed to marry and have a future with that man even if he was a fae-hating human. She wanted that future with him and was looking forward to it. But suddenly she’s kidnapped, dunked into a massive tub, turned into a fae after who knows what she experienced inside that tub, and then she suddenly kept seeing things she couldn’t comprehend.

Of course, Elain would grieve for her human life. She did not only grieve the death of her humanity but also the death of her future family that she was looking forward to create. She grieved silently and she was miserable.

The scandal was contained… At all costs, keep your good name. You don't get to tell me you feel bad.

Now, this might be a little bit of a head cannon. But in my mind the scandal in this line would be that fateful night with Azriel which Rhysand stopped when he caught them. It would have been a scandal, an issue if they were caught by Elain’s supposed mate. There would have been repercussions that may lead to another conflict or war. But thankfully, Rhysand had contained that scandal by ordering Azriel from ever pursuing whatever they had.

Now, Elain must keep her good name, be the good little girl she is, and play as a pawn in this little political chess game that Rhysand and the other high lords are playing. But in my head, they don’t get to tell Elain that they feel bad for her if they ever see her act negatively, or even act sad because of what happened between her and Azriel. They don’t get to tell her they feel bad when they had caused it. (I’m looking at you, Rhysand.)

In this line, I am reminded of the people who always complain about Elain’s character, how boring she is because she’s not the typical strong warrior-like female protagonist like her sisters. But really, you wouldn’t last an hour in the asylum where they raised her. You wouldn’t last an hour in Mama Archeron’s grooming. You wouldn’t survive being controlled all your life like Elain.

This reminds me of that dream Feyre had in ACOWAR where Elain had been lured by this image of Graysen, only to be captured by Hybern. Yup, that’s the only thought I have here.

“You caged me,” everyone caged Elain to be this sweet, soft, kind, and gentle woman. She was caged by the expectations of other people. She is expected to follow the image that was set upon her at a younger age. She was often stifled by the people around her.

And then, when she acted differently, when she started babbling nonsense and just staring with a glazed look, the same people thought she was going crazy.

Again, readers may find Elain boring and so bland. But she is this sweet, gentle, and soft lady because she was trained to be like this. She is like this because she was groomed. How would she break free from this mold if all her life, she’s been taught to be like this? If she was never given a chance?

I’m sorry that Elain was a victim of grooming, that she couldn’t fit the standard you created for a female protagonist. I’m sorry that she doesn’t fit the mold that you created for an exciting protagonist.

I love Elain and Lucien as a pairing because both have / had these pre-conceived notions about the others race that created this drama in their setup (it's all so very Pride and Prejudice!). Not to mention they both started their journey accepting of their stations in life rather than pushing for more (he as Tamlin’s second and she as a lady of a household).

Lucien was under the impression that humans had no interests “Don’t you have any … interests?” “No.” Not entirely true, but I wasn’t about to explain the painting to him. So typically human" and that they matched the picture that Feyre painted in her head about life with Tamlin, their only concern, finding a Fae suitor who would provide for them. Maintaining that belief only to be given a human turned Fae mate and to find out that he was wrong about it all, that she wanted no part of a "handsome faerie lord to wed". 😂 Elain might have fit certain criteria of his stereotype but they weren't the things that mattered considering he ate his words on the rest of it.

Elain was fixed on the notion that the Fae were cruel and were out to hurt them, “We are raised this way. We hear stories of your kind crossing the wall to hurt us. Our own neighbor, Clare Beddor, was taken, her family murdered …”

And while Lucien never hurt her and is actually the least "fae-like" or violent of the fae we've met so far, her initial impression of him was this crazy bond snapping into place, creating this animalistic draw between them. And feeling that pull whenever they're together and hearing any snarls from him would probably be intimidating when she was taught to fear the Fae her whole life.

SJMs endgames couples mostly revolve around the females growth but what I love about Elucien are there are major things they've both already had to change in their thinking since being made mates. They're both having these individual journeys and working their way towards changes in their thought process which I think she'll go over once we get to their book and we'll see a continuation of that in their own POVs.

It seems she wasn't kidding when she mentioned the tension, growth, and healing (together) that they'd have.

A Late Hello to 2024

It's been a hot minute since my last journal post so I'm feeling particularly inspired to write one up. It's 2024 and a lot's been going on irl between school and activism. So taking a moment to chill out on the blog is therapeutic.

Finals are next week and I'm looking forward to having those out the way so I can just enjoy a break and chill out. At least in terms of academics before the Fall semester starts up. Because of school, I haven't been as active with spirit work as I would like outside of my core group of spirits that I spend most of my time with. Same with astral travel, lately I've really only been going to my astral home.

I love the place, don't get me wrong. It's full of my favorite people but I do miss the days where I pretty much did nothing but astral to different places. So this summer, with the excess free time I will have, I will use that extra time to do more astral travel.

For one, visiting pop culture worlds more often is on the list.

For me personally, as long as you can inherently distinguish and separate the character from the show vs the entity you're meeting astral-wise, there's nothing wrong with dabbling in pop culture astral travel. It's not fair to put those expectations onto the entity you've met. And if you don't think you could handle those expectations being met, then you definitely shouldn't do it either. That aside, through the astral I've befriended an Orihime Inoue and she's a real gem! I don't see her often but maybe I'll plan a visit soon once finals have come and gone.

And I think I'll visit a different location and see what happens. Nothing too crazy, I want to enjoy whatever I see.

I also want to start interacting with different types of entities I've always had an interest in but have never taken the plunge into reaching out. It's time to expand the horizons, complacency is my biggest opp. I hate complacency, I always want to stay learning.

That aside some crazy shenanigans have happened recently but since that is something private to my path, I won't be talking about it here on this blog. But it was definitely a very unique event that I won't be forgetting about. I'll be working hard to hone my craft even further now that this event has transpired and I look to seeing where my skills are a year from now in death witchery.

I'll be working even more closely with the death fae in my life because of it.

Speaking of death fae, I think I'll be making another one of my mini introspective reflection posts soon. This time about how I feel I've changed or grown since working with banshees. In terms of number, the species I work with most often are selkies, floral demons and banshees so reflecting on my experiences working with all three of them is something I'd like to do.

I've done so with the first two, now it's the turn for the third.

I mentioned it before in my faerie witchcraft post, but your experience as a faerie witch/fae worker really is going to be quite unique to you. Your relationship with the fair folk will look different from fae workers A & B depending on the type of relationship you have with the faeries in your life, the type of faeries you typically interact with, if you stick to the fae local to your area or if you go out of your way to interact with fae that normally don't frequent your locale.

I tend to stick with selkies and banshees tied at no. 1 with dullahan as a close second, so that's a bit of an interesting mix I think. It honestly works wonders for avoiding fae politics. Selkies, in my experience, tend to not be affiliated with any Court and death fae tend to be far removed from it as well. It's drama free which is how I like my spirit work to be.

I've talked extensively in my selkie post and probably a few asks I've gotten in the past concerning selkies, that I think selkies are quite great prospective friends to have in your life because of their family-oriented 'once you're in, you're in' mindsets... but I also think that death faeries make great friends as well.

They understand the cycle of life and death very well and because of this, they cherish those they associate with and call their companions dearly. I think it's a very rewarding experience, I look forward to getting my mini introspective on banshees posted. I'll wait til some time after finals.

And just because I can toss this in here at the last minute, here's a bit of an altar pic. To be honest when it comes to spell work, I just go to my dresser and whip out what I need but I do have a miniature altar tucked away on a book shelf I have.

I have the deer vertebrae and leg for literal bones but I have a seashell (a bone of the sea) and a pretty stone I found (a bone of the earth). It's nice, it's simple, and I'm fond of it. It's nothing fancy compared to some of the posts you'll see of altars but I like the one I came up with and that's all that matters.

Normally when Michael found himself dead he could just bugger off for a while so he didn't have to see what was being done to him, if the circumstances happened to be worse than an accident. He never went very far, after all, he had to get back inside his body before anyone saw him. Especially Death... or even whoever the hell the crazy woman was who just loved to show up at the worst times, he didn't exactly understand her deal, but she sure did love to yell at him.

Maybe he should have rethought that policy a while ago, but lessons aren't typically learned until something goes terribly wrong. This time, the "terribly wrong" had happened.

When he had returned to the scene, his body was gone. The only other time when he had been jumped in an alley, they had taken what he had and left his body be.

"Ooooooh no! Oh shit! No, no, no, no, no!" The half fae ran his fingers through his hair, looking around as though maybe his body might just be in front of his eyes and he just wasn't seeing it.

"Shit, shit, shit!" He ran out of the alley to look down the street, nothing. He ran down to the other end. Nothing again. "Who the hell steals a body?!" His large wings ruffled in frustration.

Rayven's Revenge- Chapter 12

Summary: Rayven is the younger sister of Rhysand in the Night Court. She was banished 64 years ago for the murder of her sister. This is the story of Rayven earning her place in Prythian and finding out what it means to be family. We all know how her story ends...but how did she get there? I don't want to forget the demon princess with bat wings. Do you?

Rahne winnowed them into the skies over Autumn. She couldn't risk approaching the Forest House, but she needed to be relatively close to reach out for Eris. If he was even here. 

Eris! 

Rahne went another layer of wind below her to listen, but the Vanserra’s would never announce themselves to her. 

Dammit.

Rayven’s boots crunched on the leaves of the autumn court floor. She held the parchment she swiped from Emerie with two words she’d written for Eris and burned it in her palm. 

Even if she couldn't reach his mind here, the fires would deliver her message. The sun was setting and she was due back at court any minute, but she just needed to see his face.  

Come on, she begged the whispers of the winds to sing his safety. 

Leaves crackled behind her. 

“Oh, thank the gods,” she turned expecting Eris, but was met with the face of a beautiful stranger. 

“Who are you?” Her fire roared to life.  

The dark-skinned female tilted her head to the side and made no move to counter. Her tightly curled dark hair spilled over her shoulders. 

“You're Rayven,” she said. 

“And you're dead.” 

She held her palms up. “My name is Jesminda, but my friends call me Jess.” 

“Don't care.”

“Eris is coming,” she said. 

Her fire skidded. This could very well be a trap.  

The stranger’s lips formed a thin line. The flowy lavender of her skirts spread as she sat atop a boulder. She moved with a casual grace so much like...

“You’re one of Lucien’s.”  

She nodded. “I am the one who told him to warn you about Eris. Apparently, you did not listen.”

“Never will. Where is Eris now?” Rahne was not circling her ankles when she looked down for her. She was hovering the air above her head, which usually meant she was pissed. Another Autumn court fae that deceived her senses. 

“He sent me first, he won't have much time. He is expected back for departure.”

“To Spring?” Autumn’s shift was directly after hers, they were going too early.

“To Night,” Jesminda said. “You did not know?”

“You know my name, but not my position in my court? Who are you really?”

“A friend,” she attempted a cordial smile. 

“She doesn't have any of those.”  

Rayven gasped at the bloodied face of her best friend.

“What the fuck-” she braced herself for the rest of the ambush, but he held his hands up. 

All clear, he sent her and collapsed in the dead leaves before she could catch him.  

“I should've come sooner.” Rayven knelt next to her friend and made her own assessment. His cheek was caked in fresh blood from the gash at the cheekbone. His breaths were shaky between broken ribs. For him to look this bad an entire day later, Beron must've salted the wounds, so they'd linger. 

“I will roast him alive,” her flames scorched the vegetation around them. “I will kill him.” 

Jesminda didn't even flinch. 

There was nothing fatal, Rahne reported, but he had to be really hurt because Rahne wiped at his cheek and he let her. 

Beron was perhaps the least deserving highlord out of them all on most days, but this was unacceptable. 

Eris just shook his head and inhaled brokenly. “He can't know about you.”

“He did this to you because of me?” She decided fire wasn't the right option. She was going to take each layer off of his rotting corpse. 

“I knew he’d never believe it was nothing. When I didn't return with a body, he wanted a name.”

“You should've just told him it was me.”

His wild eyes met hers. “Are you crazy? He will kill you.”

“So instead you'll let him kill you? What name did you give him?” 

She tried to wipe the blood off of him but he swiped her hands away. “Don't.” 

“What do I do? Tell me.”

“You leave and never come back.” The blood on his face was thinned by a single tear. “If you come here again he will kill you. I only came to tell you we cannot meet here again. Don't send me messages anymore. You've never met me. I don't know who you are.” 

No, no, no. “I'm not leaving you here. Come with me,” she begged. “I can hide you in Ironcrest.” She was scrambling for a solution, and he knew it. She announced Ironcrest in front of this stranger. If she became an issue she’d roast her too. 

He shook his head. “I told him I caught a lesser scouting the Forest House. They got away, but he said if I returned defeated by a lesser fae unmarked then...” His body shook. “I should've had you hit me harder before you left.” 

Rayven couldn't help her scoff. “Broken nose wasn't enough for you?” 

He winced when the smile he forced pulled on his skin.

“So because you didn't kill someone, he beat you?”

Eris didn't respond. He didn't need to. Beron was the worst father in Prythian. Hers was cruel, but if he ever laid a hand on her it’d be the last of him having hands. 

Eris wasn't in the same position as Rayven. He was the oldest. He had six brothers to protect. Rayven only had herself and Rahne. 

“What's her deal,” her chin jerked to the female fixing her hands on her skirt. Her body language was relaxed, but a spy was always collected. 

“You may have the spymaster, but these woods have eyes. We’re lucky it was Jesminda that saw us.”

“And who can see us now?” She didn't really want his answer.

Jesminda was the one to respond. “These woods have been cleared. It is just us.”

Rahne was certain the area was clear as well, but Autumn and its inhabitants were slippery creatures. 

Rayven snapped her attention to the female. “Full offense, but I don't know or trust you.”

Eris’ cold hand wrapped around hers. “She’s okay,” he coughed. “She told me where to find you.”

“My message went to you?” 

“I think you mean, thank you Jess, for intercepting the obvious message before Beron could.” She was as smart-mouthed as the fox. 

“It was two words?” She was going to hurt that pretty face. 

“Meet now,” she quoted. “The exact day after Eris was punished for a mysterious encounter in the woods. Are you stupid or just that careless?”

Yeah, I’m going to hurt her. 

Before she could slip in her mind and convince her she was burning alive, Eris squeezed her hands. 

“You have to leave and promise to never return.”

Rayven’s heart cracked. “Don't say that to me.” 

He pulled himself upright and readjusted his bloodied tunic. “I’ll be fine,” his eyes didn't meet hers. 

“But I won't,” she cried to her friend. “I can't do this without you.” 

He pulled her into an embrace. She couldn't even wrap her arms around him before he was pulling away. “Go,” he said. 

“Eris.”

“I’ll find a way to see you tomorrow outside of Velaris.”

“I can't come to Autumn, but you can come to Night?” He never made any sense. She was about to give him another bloody nose. 

“He is meeting with Keir in the Hewn City tomorrow afternoon.” Jesminda answered again.

“I am free no matter what,” she said. She didn't have the flame, but something in her roared under the surface. “I’ll see you later,” she said to Eris and didn't offer Rayven a parting quip when she receded into a deadend Rahne had already scoped. 

“Why is Beron coming to Night?” 

“I don't know,” he said. “He’s only taking me and my two younger brothers.” 

“I met with the Highlord earlier, he didn't mention any of this.” 

“Keir requested a private audience,” he bristled.

The lord of the Hewn City wanted to meet with the Highlord of the Autumn Court. 

Her blood chilled. Keir was kept at the Court of Nightmares for a reason. 

“We have a very small window before I am missed. I’ll find you tomorrow.”

“Swear it,” she said. 

“I swear it, on my favorite little demon,” he fought the wince of his genuine smile. 

“If you don't, we’ll be right back here tomorrow, you hear me? I’ll march right into the Forest House. That's my swear.”

“Go,” he said again. “Don't come back to Autumn.” 

“Don't tell me what to do,” her threat fell short. She risked a kiss to his cheek and one last squeeze on his icy hands. 

Then Rahne was shooting into the sky, Rayven behind her.

Hey fellow Shade enjoyer! Do you have anymore lore about him? Or headcanons? Or just random stuff you wanna share about him that you haven't gotten the chance to?

This escaped me so it's mostly world building but surrounding Shade, sorry. This is so stupid, but like here is the elaboration on the whole phantom! Shade thing, as well as the split personality headcanon. Thanks @purplecherryuwu for roleplaying with me lmao, that really helped me flesh this out a lot

Trigger warnings: Trauma and violence mentions, nothing in detail but yeah. I'll warn for more if need be. Also, slightly incoherent ramblings. I wrote this at midnight.

So in Ninjago there are a bunch of different types of fae (creatures who can manipulate magic and need it to survive). These include fairies, sirens, elves, giants, and phantoms.

They lived in communities with mages (what magic users are called), and they tend to have kids with mages if they have children with humans.

For this post, since it focuses on Shade, we're gonna focus on phantoms.

Phantoms are typically connected to death and violence, and phantoms are considered to be very good at fighting, due to having enhanced strength and senses. Considered to be very intelligent, especially in terms of strategy, almost like their brain is hardwired for it. However, in exchange for book smarts and battle prowess, they tend to be very volatile and resort to violence as the first move to a solution.

They are considered 'disturbing' to look at, due to having humanoid faces but they are cool colors such as blue and grey and covered in feathers with the bottom of their face elongated out similar to a beak, with it being hard like a beak.

They also are skeletal and covered in feathers, with massive elliptical wings that have feathers detached in order to be use as weapons, in tandem with their massive talons.

(If you wanna seea bit of the inspo, here is one. No real clue what it's from but you can check out the blog if you wanna. Also, the feathers being weapons comes from Hawks from My Hero Academia).

Anyway, they tend to have a lot of bird traits, like always being in motion (ex flying, hopping) and chirping and wanting to grab shiny things and hunt small things. They can't eat birds, cows or pigs, but they can eat fish, vegetables, small creatures, and other fae/humans, including dead phantoms.

They always have the whispers of Lady Magic in their head. Lady Magic is basically the First Spinjitzu Master for mages, and she gives people magic if they don't wanna be crazy from it (like Clouse is).

Phantoms are considered rare by those who don't have magic, but they just tend to be reclusive from non-mages since there was a bunch of hunts for mages (similar to the Salem Witch Trials I think) after the Serpentine Wars that wiped out a good portion of mages.

Anyway, Shade is part phantom, and he hides a lot of the traits on a day to day basis, especially when he isn't with people he knows very well. He can detach the feathers on his body and magic away his wings, and he always has gloves on and cuts his talons to the bone in order to hide them. And being pescetarian isn't that weird. So the only real trait that is always present is the grey skin and the instincts.

Which, whoo, they are not fun for Shade. He always want to grab shiny things (when he was younger he would grab people with a lot of jewelry since they were shiny to him). He never can sit still, always hungry and he likes to be high up.

The worst part is actually his phantom. Basically, for a normal fae/human hybrid with 50% or more creature, they have a distinct voice in their head of their creature trying to encourage them to do things based on their instincts. Examples include for siren hybrids running away to live in the ocean or singing in order to hypnotize someone to escape, and fairy hybrids to fly around instead of walking and manipulate nature to their benefit. They tend to be very defensive and want the body safe at all costs.

This is because Lady Magic trying to be nice and giving them a bit of a step up in the world.

Normally the creature is only a voice in their head, and it doesn't have any real control over the body. It also doesn't tend to have much of a personality and tend to be a similar age to the human. If you read Harry Potter fic, it's like how Moony is portrayed in regards to Remus.

For Shade, and other hybrids who experienced trauma as a child that caused dissociate, however, their creature can take over the body. It's a defensive mechanism, in order to prevent the mind from breaking. This causes the creature to start to form a personality, and age oddly in comparison, since they aren't always present, unlike normal hybrids.

So for Shade, his phantom goes by either Phantom/Phoenix, depending on the au I write him in. Pronouns are he/it, but most people refer to it as he. He tends to be a few years younger than Shade, but I tend to write it more childlike if I call him Phoenix, since that meant he started to come out when Shade was a kid and therefore stopped aging normally as a kid. It is very protective over Shade, to the point of attacking anyone who tries to come close to him that he think he can fight and that Shade won't care if it killed.

(Also, shoutout to @purplecherryuwu for helping me come up with Phoenix as his name because before it was just Phantom)

However, it also is very traumatized, due to sometimes not being able to fight his way out of some situations, so it stayed out and experienced it all. When it's out, Shade doesn't know much, if anything, of what happens if Phoenix/Phantom doesn't tell him.

In some aus, Phantom/Phoenix starts to come out when Shade isn't dissociating, because Shade can give control to him if he wants to, but he doesn't like doing that since he likes to have control. In these aus, he does start learning more about the world and he starts to be less volatile and get help, as well become closer to Shade's age mentally.

Anyway, I have so many angst ideas relating to that whole headcanon you have no idea.

Also, to clarify, this is not applicable to every fic I write. Sometimes Phantom/Phoenix doesn't exist, sometimes Shade's a regular human, and sometimes the magic system works completely differently. This is just something I have spent a lot of time thinking about, and wanted to share!

I am aware this is probably not what you expected but like I wrote this all out and I'm not apologizing, so do with this what you will.
