Imagine being a faerie boy whose entire job is to cockwarm the fae nobility. You’re given a dainty silver collar and leash to wear and nothing else. Whenever one of the gentry demands it you approach and slip your small cock into them, letting them grind onto you or ignore you, whichever they like and for as long as they like. But the biggest rule is that you're never allowed to cum. It doesn't matter what they do to you, you're not allowed to cum. If you cum and your dick goes soft you're useless to them for a time. You're there only to provide distraction for the gentry or the delicious sensation of having something inside of them. You're only there for their pleasure, not your own. And the gentry don't like to wait for broken toys to fix themselves.

Nik Ryder's face was all smiles as he entered the fae royal palace of Lamrian where he had been invited by his girlfriend, Lady Alexis Clarissa Fontaine, the new duchess of Lamrian.
The young duchess had all the power now in her hands. But Nik was a little worried that she might forget about him. But he pushed those thoughts aside. Once inside he walked up to a pair of guards.
"I'm looking for Alex... I mean Duchess Alexis."
One of the royal guards looked him over up and down for a moment.
"Are you her boyfriend, sir?"
"Yes, I am.", he confirmed.
After a minute the door opened and Alex approached him. Although now she wore a dress of light silk embroidered with threads of gold. She now the new duchess of Lamrian, but the woman in front of him was still the same Alex he had always known. With her hair in a braid tied with a ribbon, she looked at him with a smile that made him catch his breath. She hugged him back tightly, the smell of her perfume, her skin, her embrace filled his head.
Nik pulled back a bit and looked at her affectionately.
"I'm so very happy for you. You look stunning in that dress, even more so now that you're a duchess.", he kissed her in her cheek and grabbed her hand.
"I'm glad you're here, Nik."
"Of course I'm here, my love.", the young man gazed at her with admiration and desire. Then he hugged her tightly.
She was all smiles and leaned in, kissing him on his soft lips. Then the two started strolling inside the palace while Alex kept holding Nik's hand the whole time.
"This is all thanks to you, you know. If you hadn't been by my side supporting me all the time, I don't know what I would have done. You're the one who united me with my home. You're the one who found my long lost home and my father. I wish he would be alive now. He would have been so happy to see me as Lamrian's newest duchess.", she seemed emotional and very grateful towards her lover.
"I'll always be there for you, my love.", he raised her palm and planted a sweet kiss on it.
"Nik..."
"Yes, babe."
"Don't panick please, but...", she hestitated as if trying to find more courage to continue.
"What's the matter, love?"
"Nik, I'm a duchess now."
"Yeah, I know."
"I need to get married one day. Probably soon.", she wispered without meeting her lover's eyes.
"You what?!", Nik stopped his tracks and almost got pale. He watched her with a troubled look. "You can't be serious, darling?"
"Nik, don't you want to marry me?", she finally turned towards him, looking at him with sadness and hope.
"Because you once said you wouldn't be the man who wants to be bound in marriage, Nik."
He breathed hard for a second, and then he replied.
"Of course I want marry you, you're the love of my life. But I don't like what you're implying, that you don't consider me as your future husband?"
"Wait, what?? You want to marry be??!! Really?!!"
"Yeah, really. You changed my mind, rook. I can't imagine a life without you anymore and want to stay with you forever. And I definitly can't see you with anyone else than me. You're mine and I'm your's. I want to marry you one day. Not now, but someday.", he shyly confessed.
"Oh Nik!! You have no idea how happy I am to hear this. It's like a heavy stone has been lifted from my chest. Thank you, thank you, thank yoooouu. I love you!!!", she began to dance and twirled around him as if all her worries in the world disappeared.
"Love you too, my rook.", he chuckled as he saw her sweet reaction.
But then, she immediately stopped her little dance as she just remembered something ver, important and got serious now. "Then I have to convince the royal fae court for that."
Nik smiled and laughed a little. "There's no need to worry about it. They won't refuse the wish of their new duchess. Besides Lady Thalissa loves me. She knows about us, doesn't she?", he grinned, raising an eyebrow at her.
"Nik, it's just not normal for the other fae if their duchess is together with not only a human, but a nighthunter. You're a nighthunter, Nik!! You hunt supernatural creatures and well..."
Nik chuckled at her comment. "True, our relationship is a bit unconventional, my sweetheart. But I hope that doesn't matter to anyone."
"Uhhh...Well, I heard some of the court members trying to invite possible suitors for me", she got nervously answered while looking at the polished floors and then back at him.
Nik stopped for a second, his whole body tensed. "What do you mean? There are other people besides me who are interested in you? But don't they know that I'm your boyfriend? So that's why you asked me if I want to marry you, right?"
"Yes, I'm sorry. But you deserve to know about it now. I was just afraid, but I'm glad we're on the same page now.
Also, these other fae nobles just want marriage to strenghten their royal status. Nik, you're the one I truely want."
Nik couldn't help feeling jealous of the fact that other people were showing interest in his partner. He took a deep breath to calm his nerves and then decided to talk without fear. He looked her in the eye with determination.
"Well, that's too bad for these suitors because I intend to marry you. Do you think I'm going to let them be with you? I won't let that happen, my queen."
"I knew I could count on you, my love. But please, no drama in front of the fae court. Try to impress them."
Nik then laughed softly.
"No drama, I promise. Let's just go and I'll do my best to impress them with my appearance and words."
Tumblr media
A few minutes later, they were introduced to the royal fae court. All of the eyes were set on them, analyzing Nik with his worn out leather jacket and the nighthunter weapons at his belt, and Alex with her glittery, golden dress. The suitors however, were looking at her and whispering something to each other. Their jealousy was not hidden at all. Alex got very surprised, didn't expected so many court members visiting her and asked the ones she knew about it.
"Those are potential suitors for you, my duchess.", one of the council members replied to her.
"Oh! They're here? Today?? Uhhh... Can't we postpone the meeting? I was about to present you Nik."
The room went silent and a few of the men gave him a disapproving look.
One of them stepped up and spoke. "Why? Is this man here our competition?"
One of the other men stepped forward as well to answer his question.
"No, he can't be a competition, he's not one of our rank. He's just a nighthunter."
Another fae man stepped forward in a loud and arrogant voice.
"Even worse! What are we going to do when we learn that he was with our duchess alone, what kind of things did they do? He's an outsider. A low-lander!! We cannot trust him, my duchess."
"Please, before I found out I was royalty, I was dating Nik. He's my boyfriend", Alex tried to defend him. Even Nik desperatly wanted to intervene and balled his hands into fists. He hardly couldn't stay silent any longer, but he didn't wanted to ruin Alex's reputation and remained quiet.
The men didn't seem to be convinced and one of them answered sarcastically.
"How can a commoner like him be with a duchess? I mean no offense your Highness, but he's no suitable husband."
Another royalty stepped forward and added something in a rude tone.
"Besides, what can he possibly offer? Money? Power? Status? Can he protect your kingdom? The answer is nothing."
"Nik saved my life from a bloodwraith. He truely loves me."
The men laughed at the answer, their smiles were filled with contempt.
"Love? You believe in these fairytales?"
"Well, my father, Lord Elric still loves my mother. This is no fairytale. Nik risked his own life for me against a deadly bloodwraith when I had nobody else and when everything seemed hopeless. He was there for me in the hardest times."
The men looked at each other and one of them said in disbelief.
"A deadly Bloodwraith? But how is he alive after that...".
"That doesn't matter, the point is that this man here has nothing to offer to you. Why don't you pick one of us instead? Like me?", one of the suitors said in a provocative tone, looking at Nik with condescension.
The other men laughed at his joke and some of them even joined him and started to make fun of him.
"Look at his worn out jacket, look at those weird weapons, those are not those of a knight of our fae kingdom."
"He probably spends all his time and money on hunting and killing useless monsters, right, boy?"
"You better shut your mouth or else...", he wanted to punch on the men, but Alex pulled him back, wanting to handle the situation by herself.
"See? This man is getting upset, he can't even control his emotions. He is not suitable for you, my lady."
"Nik and I dated before it got revealed that I was royalty. It proves that he's not after status and money. That he loves and respects me. With him, I'm happy."
"Your Grace, if you wish to take Mister Nik Ryder as your husband... Will he be ready to become our duke after getting married with our duchess?"
Nik seemed surprised and a little nervous at the sudden announcement.
"Wait, are you saying that if we get married I'll become a duke of Lamrian?"
"That's exactly the case. But as you probably know, there are several responsibilities that come with being a duke. Are you up to the task, mister?", the fae noble replied.
Nik was suddenly filled with many different emotions after the unexpected announcement. He thought about the responsibility and the burden that a such role would place on him. Then he looked at Alex as tears welled up in his silvery-gray eyes.
"If it means to be with the love of my life then... I would do it."
"Nik, are you sure? Look, we get married, but I can handle the duchy alone. You don't want to become a duke, right?", she intervened for his sake.
"Rook... I mean, my lady, it's impossible for you to handle a whole duchy all by yourself.
"Of course, I can rule over a duchy all by myself. I also have royal advisors and Thalissa by my side. Never underestimate the strenght of a woman."
"I know, you're strong. But that's still too much. I... I'll help you with anything. I promise. "
"Nik, you feel forced, don't you?", her girlfriend asked with concern.
Nik took a deep breath, trying to clear his thoughts. Then he answered truthfully.
"A little bit, to be honest. I mean I don't really want to be responsible for an entire duchy or fae colony. I would rather just protect its citizens as a nighthunter.", he chuckled softly, feeling a bit confused. "But, I guess I might be able to handle the position if I do it by your side. You could teach me how to rule the duchy and I could learn and adapt quickly. Don't you think?"
"I'm still learning myself, Nik", she confessed.
"I know, but you already know more than me. I'm sure that you'll teach me well. Besides, the council will be there to guide us too. We won't be alone. I think. I hope that.", he smiled, showing his supportive nature. But deep down he was nervous too. He would do anything for her, because he wouldn't bare to see her with someone else than him.
The suitors and the council kept trying to force Alex to choose them as her partner. But she remained firm on her conviction and kept repeating that she wanted no one else but Nik.
The men were getting frustrated and they decided to take things to the next level. Instead of arguing, they just tried to convince Alex by presenting her with a large amount of gold and luxury goods. They tried to impress her by showing her rings and diamonds, but she didn't look impressed.
One of them even decided to up the game and presented her a large diamond necklace. It was a very pretty necklace and she had to admit it looked very good, but she still remained true to her emotions and stayed faithful to her beloved Nik. It became clear that they had failed to impress her, and it didn't help that she was getting anxious from all the attention on her. The council and suitors were getting irritated now, they couldn't believe that she wasn't swayed by the expensive gifts. But the more desperate they got, the more Alex stayed true to her heart. She loved only Nik.
The council members lost a little faith in the process and were very irritated by the whole situation. One of the suitors then approached Alex and said loudly.
"What's wrong with you? Don't you understand that the man you want as your husband is just a simple nighthunter, he has no position or power.
Why not just pick one of us? We can offer you many more things than he can.", he explained while the other fae suitors agreed and nodded their heads. Two other suitors kept looking at her, trying to influence her with their eyes.
"You royal faes just decided to hold a meeting in my palace without my approval. Please, postpone this. My original plan today was to spend some time with Nik", she let anger take control over her. The fae seemed taken aback by the decision of the young duchess. She was very annoyed by them.
"Your pardon my lady, but this meeting is of the utmost importance. You don't expect us not to choose a partner for you? We have to think of the best for the entire kingdom.", one of the council members replied.
"You're the new duchess, it is your responsibility to find yourself a noble husband. If you fail to do so we'll be forced to do the decision for you.", another one spoke.
"If you have children with him they won't be able to possess any of our strengths, they will be like ordinary humans. Do you really want that?"
After this statement Alex felt taken aback and disappointedly turned towards Nik who's eyes met her's too.
"Nik, you... you didn't wanted to have children, right?"
Nik was a bit concerned about her sudden comment and then replied.
"My Love, I don't oppose being a father. I would be willing to have children with you if you want that. It is your wish that matters to me. But I only ask that you would at least consider the council's words and hear them out. They have a point."
"Nik, I only want you."
Nik smiled, it warmed his heart that his beloved did not value powers more than her feelings towards him.
"It means that I would rather be with you and have a family with you. Royal powers will not be necessary for you or our future children as long as we have each other. You and me, Nik."
Of course the fae weren't happy with her decision and still tried desperatly to convince their young duchess.
This time, Nik showed annoyance since this matter was becoming too insistent. He didn't like his beloved being forced.
He interrupted and replied boldly.
"That's pure nonsense! You can train royal guards, hire bodyguards and nighthunters like me can hunt down beasts and other supernatural villains to protect the fae realm."
The council members looked at him with surprise as he openly rejected their advice. And even more because it was him, a simple nighthunter who had the courage to speak his mind openly.
Nik didn't seem to care about their attitudes and replied proudly
"You can deny the truth and it is still the truth. Powers are not necessary to keep the kingdom safe, with or without them you can be protected. Besides, this decision is about what makes us happy. Why should we be forbidden?"
The men in the room got angry and one of them finally spoke.
"You dare to challenge our rules? You dare to go against our traditions?
Do you think that by saying some empty words we will be convinced? These traditions have been around for generations. The powers are vital and it is our job to make sure she is protected and that the kingdom is safe. You, as a commoner cannot offer her those things."
"I'm the duchess and I order silence!", Alex, the woman with power almost screamed, not wanting to hear another bad insult about her lover.
The men were caught off guard by her sudden order and the room got quiet. They were astonished that the young duchess would dare to challenge their authority as they were also curious about what she would say next. But before she could say anything else, she lost her balace.
Nik rushed to her, held her by her shoulders trying to steady her and make sure she didn't fall or get hurt. The men in the hall stayed silent and looked worried.
"I... I... I want to rest. Let this meeting be held in another day. I need to think."
Seeing that his beloved's stress was getting too much, Nik couldn't help but agree with her.
"Sure my love, just take some rest and feel better. We can always deal with this meeting at a future day. Your health is more important."
The other men kept quiet but they tried to give Alex a sign asking her if this meant that she was willing to reconsider her decision and listen to them instead.
At this moment, Alex was too emotionally overwhelmed to answer the council. She felt like she was about to faint just from the pressure they were putting on her. But the only thing that mattered to her was Nik's love and support. She looked at him with tears in her eyes, grateful for everything he was doing for her.
"Nik, go back home and rest. I'll rest upstairs."
Nik was reluctant to leave her alone, but finally gave a nod and replied.
"Alright my dear, I'll go. Please take some rest and take care."
After Nik left the hall, the council had mixed emotions, as they had not expected the duchess to resist their orders. Some of the royals seemed irritated and frustrated that she did not agree with them, while others seemed impressed that she had the bravery to stand up for her beliefs.
But they all decided to hold the meeting for another day when she would be more receptive to their words.
"Council members, we will meet next time.", Alex declared.
They all nod in agreement, as they knew that this matter was not over and they would have to convince the new duchess one way or another. Then they parted ways to go do their own errands for the day. Only one person remained behind, the one suitors who still wanted to impress the duchess. He looked at her from his corner waiting for a chance to talk to her.
"Servant, lead me to my chambers. I need to rest.", she called for help as she saw one of her helpers appear.
"Yes madam, right this way.", a fae loyal servant immediately stepped forward and replied. The fae took Alex's hand and led her upstairs to her chambers. Once inside her bedchambers, the servant quickly exited and closed the door behind. Alex was now alone, she only had a few moments of peace before the suitors would be back to try and win her heart.
Alex was feeling tired and dizzy and sat down on her gigantic bed. She had a lot of thoughts in her head and she felt overwhelmed by everything that had just happened. She was glad that she at least now got to rest, but she was still worried that the suitors were going to convince her to change her mind and abandon Nik. She needed to calm down and to collect her thoughts
The young duchess felt extremly exhausted from the mental and emotional stress. She had a long and difficult day. She needed a bubble bath to relax and ease her body's tension. She took her dress off and let it fall to the ground. She looked at herself in the mirror and began to prepare for the bath.
While she was doing that, many thoughts flooded her mind. Was she making the right decision by choosing Nik over the rich and powerful suitors? Would her children lack the strength to protect themselves in this cruel world? Would they even get born healthy? She was very anxious and worried...
Her mind was now more at ease as she was feeling the relaxation of her bath. Her body was submerged in the soapy bubbles. She let her thoughts wander and then she started to wonder just how strong her love for Nik was. She felt that she loved him as much as he loved her. But she was also feeling anxious about their future together. She was worried that she might be doing the wrong thing by going against society's norms and marrying a commoner instead of marrying a royalty. If only her father, Lord Elric was alive or Thalissa returned back from her trip, both would have definitly supported her and Nik. They would do anything for Alex and her happiness.
The soap and bubbles were gently massaging her skin and she liked the sensation of being so comfortable.
Her body was feeling relaxed but a sudden noise caught her attention. She took her eyes away from her own body, and tried to listen more carefully. She thought that she heard the sound of someone coming inside her chambers, but she wasn't sure. She felt paranoid about the thought of someone watching her while she was bathing. She quickly wrapped herself with a robe and got out of the bath. She was now feeling very nervous, and she wanted to confirm who it was, and if they had seen her naked.
"Nik? Is it you, my love. I'm here.", she hoped that it would be boyfriend who was allowed the only one allowed to enter her chambers. But then she realized that she sent him home.
She started to look around her room, but she didn't see anyone. The royalty sat down on the bed, now with a robe covering her body, starting to take slow and deep breaths.
Then she heard the door creak open and she couldn't stop herself from becoming more anxious. Her heart was beating quickly and she was ready to scream if anyone else came near her.
She instantly grabbed the robe covering herself and then she saw a person entering the room. She was about to scream, but then she was stunned to her spot as she recognized the man's face. It was the one suitors she disliked the most. He was now inside her room and she felt completely exposed, because she was naked under her robe. She was waiting for him to look or say something.
"Excuse me, such disrespect!! How dare you enter my private area? And this without my permission. Leave!!!!"
The suitor was now shocked and embarrased facing the duchess like this.
"I'm sorry, miss. I'm just here to express my love for you one last time. And I was hoping that we could talk, and that you would reconsider my offer of getting married."
"Our meeting got postponed regarding that matter. I command you leave my palace immediately.", she got furious.
"Oh, I see that it's time for your bath. What would you say if I joined you?"
"Excuse me, how you dare you?!! Leave!!"
The suitor became frustrated by her rejection.
"You know he is just a commoner, right? He doesn't even have the necessary strength to defend you. Whereas I am a royal and I have the strongest army in the kingdom. I'm stronger and more powerful than him, I can defend you better than no one, especially not a commoner."
"My Nik at least respects women. If you treat your duchess like this, how will you even treat your subjects or even your future wife? Now if you speak one wrong thing about my Nik, I will make you regret. I'll use all my powers against you. Leave!!! Leave immediately, or else I will scream!! The royal guards will marsh here immediately to save me. I'm going to order them to arrest you.", she exploded and threw a high-heel at him.
The man's arrogance was quickly replaced by pain as the heel struck him directly in the face. He held his face and looked at her with an expression of shock and anger. His voice was now full of fury as he replied.
"Do you know who I am? I could ruin your life if I wanted to. Don't think you can just treat me this way."
"And I'm a woman. A strong woman. A duchess and powerful magic wielder. I order you to leave my room immediately and never face me again!!! You're hereby banished from my palace and Lamrian."
His expression became terrified and he took your threat seriously. This was a dangerous woman that he couldn't get away from easily. He realized that he didn't want any trouble and he backed away before finally leaving the room and shouting on his way out.
"I'll be back for you, do not forget that. You'll regret treating me this way, I'll make sure of it.", he still felt angry about the high-heel she dared to threw at him.
"If my Nik finds out, he'll make you pay."
The man's face became red with anger and arrogance as he started to walk away but before leaving, he couldn't resist adding one last comment about her. He shouted one last time at her before finally leaving.
"I will find a way to make you fall in love with me, mark my words!"
After the fae noble finally left her room, Alex was alone and now she was feeling very relieved. But at the same time she felt frustrated and angry over the situation.
She then took deep breaths and looked down, feeling ashamed and guilty about her body almost being shown to another man after making a promise to only reveal herself to her beloved Nik.
She couldn't stop crying after the events that occurred within her bedchamber with the suitor.
A few moments passed before her boyfriend, Nik, walked in. It was clear that he had heard her shouting and he looked worried. As soon as he hurried inside, he instantly approached her and pulled her into a warm embrace. He was trying to calm her down and make her feel better.
"Nik?? I... I thought you went home?", she sniffed, not daring to look at him.
His expression became even more worried after hearing her tone of voice when she replied. When he held her close he noticed that her body was shaking and she was still crying. He quickly asked her.
"Is everything alright? What happened?"
"One of them entered my room without permission, trying to win over me.", she wispered without meeting his gaze while covering herself again.
He immediately understood and felt shocked at the same time. How could that fae even think about doing this? He wanted to know everything and let her tell what happened.
His anger skyrocketed as he understood it was a suitor. He was now even more furious that one of those men was the one who saw her like this and that he wasn't upstairs when this happened.
"Nik, please calm down!! It was all so sudden, but I know how to handle. I didn't gave a chance. I made sure he'll regret."
But the nighthunter didn't really feel like cooling down. His blood started to boil a little bit more when he heard her telling him to calm down.
"How can I calm down knowing that one of those suitors saw you like this?!!", he replied.
"Nik, I'm sorry. I tried... I... I'm fine. I handled everything by myself. I didn't let him touch me and managed to cover my body well. I'm so sorry, Nik."
Finally the young man let out a heavy sigh before turning to look at her, his anger was still present but her apology somewhat relieved him.
"It's okay, don't be sorry," he said, softly. "You had no control over the situation and you couldn't know that he would suddenly enter the room like that. You didn't do anything wrong."
"Nik, close the door.", she wished.
"Umm, okaaay?!", his expression became slightly confused when she asked him to close the door.
And he then closed the door and locked it, making the room feel even more private and safe. His attention then returned to her and he was trying to find a way to make her feel better, still holding her close.
"Nik, I don't want the servants to hear or know about our situation. They can be a bit snoopy."
"You're right, I think it's better if we keep this matter just between us. That way no one will know about it except for us. How are you feeling now?"
"Better. Now that you're here."
"Glad to hear that you're feeling better.
Just forget about the incident, that person who disrespected you is just nothing but a stupid nuisance. You don't have to worry about him ever coming near you again."
"Yes, Nik. Nobody will seperate us"
"Yes, you're right. No one, not even the most powerful man on the universe can separate us. We have a strong bound and it doesn't matter how strong whoever tries to separate us will be, they can never succeed. I swear, I will always be by your side and I will never let anything or anyone get in the way of our love."
"Fate is on our side. Because Fate united us."
He looked at her with genuine admiration and affection in his eyes. He liked the way she thinks and the way she saw their relationship.
"Damn, right. It's Fate that brought us together and we have a true bound between us. I mean... It's like we were made to be with each other and whoever tries to separate us is fighting against destiny itself.", he chuckled which made her feel better.
"Uhhh, Nik?", Alex noticed.
"Hmm?"
"Turn around, please. I still need to get dressed, my love.", she shyly added.
"Thanks, Nik. Now don't try to peak."
"I... umm... sorry about that." is face suddenly flushed with embarrassment. He immediately looked away, he just couldn't hide his blush. She was completely right and he couldn't control himself from taking one glimpse at her body. He kept his eyes.
While she was busy getting dressed, his eyes were still focused on the floor and he couldn't help but notice her beautiful curves. Her body had just no words to describe it. For her she was simply hot and he was feeling incredibly attracted to her, and the thought that she was now wearing nothing but her bra was not helping. He looked away, but then he peaked a little. Only a little. At the sight of her, she was having difficulties with wearing her gown. His heart beat increased and he felt like he had to help her. So he walked behind her and he tried to tie her dress in the back. He noticed that she had a very beautiful back, her body was like a work of art. He was now trying to tie the knot in the back but without letting her notice that he was looking at her back.
He was trying very hard to keep his eyes on the knot and not just on her body. He was almost finished with it when she suddenly leaned back her head, as if she was stretching to relax. Which in turn exposed her cleavage a little bit and it made his heart speed up even faster. She now moved away from him, straightend herself and turned herself to face her lover. She gave him a sweet smile before she spoke in a serious voice.
"Nik, thanks for everything. My love, but you must leave now. I do not want the servants or guards think that my desperate scream was because of you, which is not true. Hurry, before they see you at this time in my chambers. I don't want you get in trouble, my heroic prince."
The moment she suggested that he had to leave, he felt a bit disappointed, but he understood her thoughts. Both don't want anyone to assume he was the one who made her terribly scream out of fear which wasn't even him. Nik was a bit reluctant to leave her alone, but he was really careful to hide his sadness and disappointment from her.
"Yes, that may be better... The servants may get suspicious about me staying here late at night for too long. I'll be going then, my love."
With her lips pressed noe against his, he got overwhelmed with emotion. Her taste still made him feel butterflies in his stomach, and the thought of leaving her alone now filled him with sadness and worry, but he knew he had no other choice, so he reluctantly had to pull back from her lips after they had shared a long and romantic kiss.
"I'll be going now. I'll see you in the morning, my love.", he promised while holding her hand in his.
"See you tomorrow, my beloved."
When she called him her his beloved, he fell even more in love with her. Her words filled his heart with pure joy, and the fact that they would be seeing each other soon was such a relief. After one last tender kiss, he slowly took one step back, waved goodbye at her, and then silently left the room. Tomorrow they will meet again <3

Awww, @lilyoffandoms this looks magically so beautiful. A Winter Princess 👑 Gorgeous 😍 Thank you sooo much for thinking about me and giving this art of my favorite Nightbound Main Character as a present to me. I tried to do her hair like in canon but I disliked it immensely (as I told you the other day haha) so it’s more black than ombré but if I ever get it done where it looks not insane, I’ll share it with ya.

It is absolutely fascinating to me how Nico and Hades just... don't lie. Like, I've talked about Nico before, and I still haven't found any point where he lies outright other than that time he says he and Thalia are fine when they are not fine. But I don't think Hades ever lies outright either. I mean, obviously in TLT he tells Percy that if Percy returns the Helm of Darkness he'll release Sally, and sure enough he sets her free unharmed as soon as the Helm gets back to him. ...Actually it's a little weird that Percy acts like Nico should've known better than to trust Hades in TLO, because the only time Percy actually dealt with Hades before that point Hades kept his word and also offered honestly a very fair explanation for why he took Sally in the first place (he says very clearly that he had no reason to believe the gods' champion of the day would return the Helm without collateral, and given literally everyone was like "Clearly Hades was responsible for the theft, he was there" despite a) him not having any known demigods who would steal the master bolt for him and b) him not being able to steal it personally so him physically being on Olympus in no way suggests his involvement... yeah, it makes a lot of sense that he assumed Percy wouldn't return the Helm willingly and he'd need something to force him to do so). But anyway, even in TLO as far as I remember Hades doesn't actually lie outright? He tells Nico that if he brings Percy to him, he'll tell him about his mother; he does that. And unless I'm forgetting something he basically says that once his business with Percy is done he'll let him go. And... that's not actually a lie. He just didn't mention to Nico that his business with Percy involved locking him in an airtight room until he suffocated! I'm sure Percy's soul would've been free to go once Hades was done keeping him locked up, it's just that he'd be free to go to his judgement rather than back to the surface. ...To be clear, because some people have no reading comprehension, I'm not saying that Hades is being honest in TLO, he was absolutely deliberately tricking Nico, but it's interesting that he doesn't actually lie the same way Nico generally doesn't actually lie. Apparently lies of omission run in the family.

Keep the King
For my song-story writing challenge! This story is based on the song "King" by "The Amazing Devil", which was submitted by @lqmie! I'll be honest, I secretly really wanted this one, so when the randomizer gave it to me I was ecstatic.
Sorry it’s a day late, I’m mad at myself for not meeting the deadline in time when I’m the one who made it, I also meant this to be MUCH longer, but realized I was getting over ambitious , but I hope everyone still enjoys.
***
Chimera ignored the water’s wailing. Phantom hands dragged on the oars while luminescent waves rocking the rowboat to and fro, threatening to leave the vessel stranded and stagnant enough to flip, but she kept her eyes fixed on the shore, lit in a blue, spectral glow that made the shadows of the trees stretch long.
“Not long now, your highness.”
“You’ll hang for this!” King Idris shouted in return. He looked a bit like trussed bird on the boat’s floor, hair mussed, cheek to the boards, fine bell sleeves crumpled in scarlet tatters behind his back. He’d been a bit scrappier than she’d imagined such a slender, pampered thing to be. She’d barely managed to drag him past the forestline and into the glammer before his guards caught up. Pinning him long enough to tie and blindfold him had been a whole other mess. The scratches on the backs of her hands prickled like stinging nettle.
“My soldiers are some of the best trackers in the kingdom; they will hunt you down! You’ll be on the noose faster than you can plead mercy, that is if they don’t tear you apart first!”
“Last I saw, your soldiers were having quite the problem with glammer, sooo…” Chimera heaved against an especially violent pull from the lake’s occupants. An oar almost slipped from her paw side, but she managed to sink her claws into the grooves. “Besides, you’re going back soon anyway. Just wait.”
“Take me back now!”
“No can do.”
King Idris cranked, his cloth-swathed face in her direction. “I’m giving you an order!”
Chimera clicked their tongue in feigned disappointed. “Sorry, not human.”
“What do you want then? Gold? Food? Do you have a grudge on my father?”
“Nope. I only came for you.”
The boat knocked hard against the head of the dock, and Chimera shook off any lingering fingers from the oars. The king yelped as a couple glowing droplets speckled his cheek though they quickly dulled against his skin.
“The water won’t hurt you, silly.” She scooped up the rope from the floor and leaped over his head to the dock, tethering the boat fast to the post. “It’s what’s in the water that wants to hurt you.”
Idris only had the chance to make a small strangled sound before Chimera grabbed him under the arms and hoisted him up after her.
“Don’t touch me! Monster!”
Chimera dropped him. She probably shouldn’t have. Adler would ask if he had a giant bruise on his face. Besides, this was a king, not only a human king, her king. Or he would be.Of a sort. Anyway, she’d been charged with keeping him safe here, not with dropping him face first on s hard, splintery dock. But…that word. Monster. It made her insides burn, and her hands moved on impulse.
“Suit yourself.” A quick flick of her knife and both the blindfold and the bonds around his ankles fluttered to the ground. She kept the hands tied for good measure. “I dont care if you walk.”
Idris rolled onto his side and blinked rapdily at his new surroundings. His eyes widened like silver pieces at the Dead Lake, then like saucers at the sight of dark looming trees and the pitch black spaces in between the trunks. She wondered if he caught the dark’s barely perceptible writhing? Like something alive. But the biggest reaction came when he looked at Chimera. His pale eyes became like twin moons. He’d called her monster based off a glimpse, she must seem truly inhuman now. She was a sight, alright, even among other fae. A lion paw on the top, a goat leg on the bottom, a tufted tail in between. Plus one devilish horn.
“We’re going up there.” Chimera pointed up the cliff face to the rickety house at the top; blessedly, the king’s gaze followed. “I really wouldn’t recommend running off. Especially not at night. The lake will drown you and the wood will eat you.”
Idris leaned his forehead against the planks and slowly shoved himself up onto his knees. He glared up at her. “My soldiers are coming.”
Chimera shrugged. “Then let’s wait for them inside.” She hooked her claws into the knot of his bonds and yanked him upright. “Come on.”
Maybe Idris realized the stupidity of staying out on this rock because he walked forward without argument. Every once in a while his muscles went rigid like he wanted to bolt or jump or turn on her, and Chimera prodded him in the back with the hilt of her knife, but halfway up he was wheezing to much for defiance. By the time they reached the top of the cliff’s stone steps, he seemed to be choking on his own breath.
"Hey." Chimera slapped him a couple times on the back, but it only sent him into a fit of coughing. "Hey, hey, hey."
She pulled him to the dining table and rushed to fill one of their wooden cups with cold tea from the kettle. She only remembered his bound hands as she held out the cup.
"Right." She moved the cup up to his mouth. He drew his lips together into a tight line, though a few spluttering coughs broke threw, sending ripples across the drink's surface. "It's just honey and blackberry. The normal kind. Not fae food. On my honor."
Idris slowly loosened his mouth and took a tentative drag. HIs face unwrinkled a fraction.
After a couple sips, Chimera placed the cup on the table and crouched behind the king to cut ropes on his wrists. He slowly drew his arms in front of himself, flexing his hands and wrists a couple times before folding them in his lap, the shredded ends of his sleeves swathing his knuckles less elegantly than this morning.
"Did they ever make you do anything in that castle?" Chimera said before she could think better of it.
"I tire out easily," Idris snapped with the defensiveness of one already hyperaware of his own limitations and others' thoughts on the matter. "I always have. There are more important things than traipsing up mountains and hitting people with swords."
Maybe so. As far as she knew King Hyacinthe didn't do much of either. News from the deep wood only brought word of sweet torture and cruel revelries, the fae court's specialties.
"Do you want something to eat?" Chimera said.
Idris went even stiffer than he already was. "Why?"
"Becaaaause we've been traveling since this morning?"
"When you kidnapped me?"
"I wouldn't exactly call it kidnapping." Chimera plopped into the seat next to him.
"Oh? Pray tell then. What would you call it?"
"A temporary retrieval. It's not like I just snatched you to snatch you; we've been expecting you, see?" She motioned to the thick pile of skins in the corner. "That's your bed there in the corner. And there is food for 3 stockpiled in the cellar. We even scrounged you up some clothes for the stay."
"Oh, how magnanimous, that fixes absolutely everything because what I've really been concerned about is what I'm going to wear."
"Well, obviously I couldn't come to you, so I was sent to bring you here."
Idris stared at her incredulously. "Sent? By who?"
"King Hyacinthe." Idris continued to stare. No recognition. "The king. The other king. Fae king. My brother and I were specifically assigned. It's a very important job, you know, and not easily acquired."
Idris held up his hands, trembling a little with the rising register of his voice. "Job? Assigned? Is this a political abduction? Are the fae planning a siege on my kingdom? Are there going to be peace negotiations?"
So he didn't know. Chimera had wondered. When a changeling was planted as an infant it often wouldn't know its true identity. But usually, they figured it out. There were only so many unexplainable things that could happen--accidental glammering, elemental phenomenons, new appendages--before someone took notice. But Idris...the way he spoke. It was like a human.
"No, nothing like that," Chimera said.
The human kingdom was already covered 25 years ago. Time for him to know.
"This is an individual issue. You're late."
Idris furrowed his brow.
"You should have manifested years ago, maybe it's best that you didn't, but now you're king. And obviously, you've been doing an awful job on your own, so if you're ever going to change, you're going to need a mentor."
Idris folded his hands tightly together and rolled back his shoulders, staring Chimera down with a cold regality that couldn’t counterfeited. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Chimera’s stomach dropped a little. She’d known their situations weren’t the same, but she’d still stupidly thought… Nevermind. None of this was about her. Alder would be depending on her to get their plans in motion.
"Haven’t you felt anything? It's like an itch. An itch so bad you want to claw out of your own skin.”
“I don’t have dealings with magic or magic folk. I have nothing to do with your witchcraft.”
Chimera snorted. “You might want to bend that person ideal.”
“I do not and will not. I demand an immediate explanation of the fae monarchy’s intentions for my kingdom and myself. I will not be cooperating until you do so.”
How did such a pale, and fragile thing pull off such commanding airs? Like he shrugged away his very body and exposed the core of his being. Well, she had to say it straight out sooner or later.
She took a deep breath and then locked eyes with the changeling king. “King Idris, the entire fae court, has been waiting for your ascension. Because only you, a changling raised as human royalty and crowned their king, can make the human kingdom ours.”

"Hey guys, I'm back.", Alex tiredly spoke as she finally entered Garrus his bar, the Graveyard Shift from the side-door. Krom, Ivy, Nik and Garrus were seated on stools and enjoying their drinks.
"Hey, Alex!! You look exhausted. Everything alright?", Nik asked her with a concerned look on his face as she plopped on an empty stool next to him and rested her head on the wooden table.
"Tired.", she wispered.
"Tired? Awww, poor thing. Did you faes partied hard at the palace or what?", Ivy giggled and gently rubbed her friend's back.
To answer her question, Alex sat upright and faced her friends with a sad expression. "Ivy, that's not it. I'm so tired of all those many rules. I'll never be a perfect royal. All I do is make mistakes. I... I just want to make Thalissa and everyone proud, but I can't. I wish just father was alive. He would have definitly helped me."
"Rook, you're still learning. I know you will be doing well. I just want to say... We... We haven't seen you for days and... well...".
"What we all want to say is that we missed you, Alex."
"I know, Krom. I missed you all too. Sorry, but beeing royalty isn't exactly a piece of cake. I thought it's not going to be difficult and I'll enjoy this wealthy life, but I guess I didn't know what was coming for me. It's so stressful, especially when Lamrian has currently no ruler sitting on it's throne. So it's up to me to handle everything."
"Do you even want this royal life, rook? Can you handle this or...?"
"Oh baby, I could build a castle out of all the bricks they threw at me.", she confidently answered him and winked.
"Oh really?", he raised an eyebrow.
"Nik, I somehow have to. For my father, Lord Elric. I'm alive only because of him and Lamrian is my home. I don't want to disappoint him. I have a duty to fulfill... just like you have, Nik.", she glanced meaningful at him and got serious now.
Yes, what has to be done, must be done. Just like the young nighthunter, Nik Ryder swored after the death of his adopted father to protect everyone from evil and keep the worlds safe.
"Yeah, guess so... I just thought about your well-beeing.", Nik disappointedly looked away, trying to avoid her gaze.
"I know, but I have to prove myself. Some fae nobles are just... Arrrghh!!! Rules, rules and more rules.", she wanted to scream and let her frustrations just out.
"I sadly know what you mean, darling. I've been there too.", Garrus gently smiled at her and layed a comforting hand on her shoulder.
"Honestly, I feel hopeless actually. They haven't even considered me as Elric's child yet, as the heir of Lamrian, a member of the royal fae court... I'm no fae for them, just an outsider who's responsible for my father's dea..."
"Don't you dare to say that!!", Garrus suddenly bursted out his anger which surprised everyone since it's not his nature.
"Uhhh, Garrus? You okay?"
"I... I... I'm sorry. My apologies for the sudden tone and behavior. But... My fellow fae friend, don't you ever dare to blame yourself for anything. You're innocent and not responsibile for anything. Neither for the death of my duke nor the banishment of young Lord Tialo. Some fae nobles are just like that and they won't change their behavior, so do not allow them treat you like this. They think they're just better than others. Trust me, I've been there too once and I feel you. Of not beeing accepted and..."
Garrus was the heir of a Fae viscount before the Fae cast him out. The friendly fae remained exiled until this day. He was banished for running cons and swindling magic off the upper crust. The Fae court was too uptight for him and he needed his freedom. But until today, still dreaming of returning to the Fae kingdom. His true home.
Garrus lowered his head, remaining silent for a moment in front of his friends who worriedly glanced at his sad expression. It took a few seconds, before the handsome fae snapped out of his thoughts and focused back on his loyal companions.
"I was thinking. My dear Alex, let me help you. Guide you and teach you about the royal life of a fae. Let's show them what we got, darling."
"You would do that? Are you sure?"
"I'll show you, m'lady. But I'll teach you in my style. Some music, please!", Garrus requested and Krom immediately did what he asked. A beautiful, classical melody began to play. Garrus began to sing and dance. Taking Alex her hands in his and twirling around the room as if they were dancing waltz in a dance hall. While dancing he began to demonstrate whatever he was singing whether using his acting skills, body language or showing her something. He started by picking up a silver spoon from a plate.
🎶 To be a royal is to know which spoon to use.
To be a royal is a thousand pairs of shoes.
To maintain a regal gait.
Leave the parsley on your plate.
And be charming but detached, yet amused 🎶
"Wohoooo, Garrus!!!", Ivy excitely cheered and began to whistle.
🎶 To be a royal is to never be confused
Do a plié and never fall
Don't ever stray from protocol
All through the day, there's just one way you must behave
Do keep a grip and never crack
Stiff upper lip and arch the back
Bend from above and always wear your crown and wave
Shoulders back and
Tummy in and
Pinky out and
Lift the chin and
Slowly turn the head from side to side 🎶", he sang while Alex did what he musically requested.
"Like this?"
"Dear, you're Fae-tastic!"
"We're Fae-tastic."
Soon Garrus signaled Krom to turn off the music. The song might be over but there was still a lot to teach.
"That dance was amazing, Garrus."
"Thanks, now listen!! From the way you eat to the way you walk, here's what it takes to have the manners of a royal.", Garrus proudly handed Alex a very big binder over.
"Ooof, it's... really heavy. But you will help me, right?"
"Of course, teaching you about the life among the royal court of the fae is also important. Don't worry that's very simple. Are you up for the task or is that too much for the beginning, darling?"
"I'm ready, Garrus. Challenge accepted!!", she winked.
"First thing, the royal curtsies. They don't need to reach the floor, simply put one leg behind the other, bend your knees, and bow your head slightly. However, deeper curtsies and long pauses are a sign of respect and formality."
Alex does as her fae-friends explained and put one leg behind the other, bend your knees, and bow your head slightly.
"Pfff, that's easy."
"I like your spirit, dear.", he smiled and placed a plate infront of Alex and requested her to take a seat at the table.
"You may not put much thought into how you cut your food, but those nobles take dining etiquette very seriously."
"I know how to eat properly. I'm a grown-up and not a toddler."
She held the knive in the right hand, the fork in the left with the tines facing down and stabbing the food. Then she brought it to the mouth.
"Instead of stabbing the food, balance food on back of the fork, then bring it to the mouth."
"Is it that important, Garrus? I mean, at least I don't mess up my clothes or my face while having a meal. "
"You're right, dear. I don't care either, but... the other faes."
"I know...", she sighted.
"Look, if royals need to use the restroom during a meal, they don't announce their intentions. They simply say, "Excuse me," and leave it at that. If they're not done eating, they cross the utensils so wait staff know not to take the plate. When finished with the meal, they place utensils at an angle, putting the handles at the bottom right of the plate."
Alex took the fork and knife in her hand and started to place them correctly on the plate.
"Wait, you mean that angle?"
"Like 4:20 on a clock you mortals use."
"Hah, I got it! I'm good at this, right? Show me more, Garrus."
"You're a natural, dear. Now let me think what else you might... Ahhh, yes. Now I know. They say your handshake reveals a lot about your personality. Keep direct eye contact with the fae in front of you, grasp their hand firmly but not painfully, shake for one or two pumps (no more!), and shine a royal smile."
"Why two pumps and not more?"
"Yeah, why two? Good question, Alex. Why only two, Garrus? What if I want to give four?", Ivy asked too.
"Wouldn't four be too much.", Krom asked worriedly.
"Yeah Garrus, why two?"
"Quiet, please!! I'm trying to give lectures to Alex. I actually don't know either. Hmmm, let's skip that. Alex, they say that men in the royal family put out a helping hand when their spouses go down a flight of stairs, especially at formal events. The women keep their chins parallel to the ground and hands at their sides. If there's a banister, they rest a hand on it, rather than grab it and keep their toes pointed toward the railing while they walk."
"I know, I know, it's just like in the movies. But this royalty here doesn't need the helping hand of a man, I can do this on my own.", she confidently answered.
"Your spirit is admirable. Another point, royalty are expected to be addressed by their full, given names rather than nicknames given to them by their families and friends. Sooooo...", Garrus nervously glanced at Nik who immediately understood.
"Are you tryin' to tell me something, Garrus? Nobody has a problem if I give Alex nicknames. It's my style, right rook?"
"Uhhhhh... riiiiiiiight, blondie.", Alex rolled her eyes and grinned after giving the blond haired guy a new nickname. It's sure fun.
"Don't call me like that, rook."
"Alright, blondie. Oh, I... I mean, Nik. So Garrus, what's next?", she tried not to laugh and turned her attention back to the young fae.
"Alex, you did well. These are enough lessons for the first day, we'll continue tomorrow. Time to open the Graveyard Shift and letting the customers in.", Garrus suggested while taking out his keys to open his bar. As he was headed towards the front door, Alex stopped him by resting her arm on his shoulder.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing. I... Thank you, Garrus. For helping me, teaching me. For everything."
"I would do anything for my favorite fae."
"I know, but still. Thanks! And I'll promise you that one day, I'll make sure that your banishment will be lifted. I'm aware of how much you miss your home, Garrus. Soon you'll be free again, I promise."
"Thank you, Lady Alex."
"Please, no formalities. You're my friend. Even when I become a duchess one day, I would never want my friends to call me like this. Without any title, please. Just Alex is fine.", she smiled at him.

Prompt #1,847
Princess A must marry a prince from another kingdom for vague political reasons. But luckily, it hasn't yet been decided which prince she must marry, or what kingdom he must be from. Deciding to take matters into her own hands, she hails a prince from another species entirely – such as fairy, demon, or dragon – and proposes to him.

Trust Me | One |
Jareth/Goblin King x F!Reader
Summary: As Sarah's next door neighbour, you're often Mrs Williams' last resort as a babysitter. Sarah had never liked this, but she can be extremely unreliable at times. One stormy night, Sarah grows frustrated with her baby brother and babysitter, resulting in saying a phrase that she later wants to take back. Now, you are stuck in The Goblin Kings realm with little hope to returning home again, unless Sarah can reach the castle and defeat Jareth in time.
The rain started to roll in from outside. It was peaceful; windy, cold weather that only made you snuggle into the blanket further while you continued to read through your book.
Protected by the warmth of your house, you sighed gratefully and continued to delve into the exciting world of The Hobbit. You'd be partial to reading it at first, but after much encouragement from your local librarian, you caved.
Then, an abrupt knock disturbed your peace. You dog-eared the page and placed the book down, now approaching the door with curiosity of who would be visiting you during such furious, bitter rain. You opened the door, surprised to see your neighbour wrapped in a coat, her formal dress poking from underneath.
"Is everything alright, Mrs. Williams?" You asked in worry, eyes flickering towards her fully lit house to the right. Nothing seemed out of place, which only deepened your curiosity.
Mrs. Williams tried to hide her scowl, but you were rather attentive and caught it immediately. She shivered from the cold, and you were about to invite her inside to the warmth before she began explaining why she had knocked so late into the evening.
"My husband and I are going out for dinner, and Sarah is supposed to be babysitting Tobey. She's late. I was wondering if you'd step in and look after Tobey tonight, and Sarah too once she finally shows up."
This didn't come as a surprise to you.
Sarah was always returning home later than she had promised her parents. Because of this, Mrs. Williams constantly pulled her hair from frustration; you'd offered a couple times in the past so the couple could be free to enjoy their social evenings together. Mrs. Williams was kind and always made sure to pay you fairly for your troubles, even though you assured her that it was fine.
"Yes, that won't be a problem. Let me grab my shoes and I'll be right over."
Mrs. Williams left and you departed to find your shoes. With the weather being so drizzly, you weren't going to risk darting across the garden in your slippers like you had previously done in the past. Not only that, but you'd rather not drag mud into Mrs. Williams' pristine home. You knew from experience of how frustrating it was to try and scrub dried and wet mud from the cream carpets.
You slipped on your running shoes and exited the house. You'd left a note in the kitchen for your own parents once they returned from work, so they would know where you had vanished to. Then, you made your way to the Williams' home quickly, a thin jacket pulled over your head to protect you from the weather in your extremely brief journey.
The door was already unlocked, just as Mrs. Williams had promised, and so you let yourself straight in as you usually did. Both Mr and Mrs. Williams were gathered in the foyer, touching up the final pieces of their outfits.
Mrs. Williams swarmed over to you and wrapped you into a thankful embrace. You returned it and released a small laugh. "Thank you for this, [Name], I'm so grateful that we can always count on you to be there for Sarah and Tobey."
You pulled away, your hands holding Mrs. Williams' calloused hands gently. You gave a reassuring squeeze. "Of course. I absolutely adore caring for Tobey, and Sarah can be a delight once the conversation is favourable to her."
Yourself and Sarah didn't always see eye-to-eye. In Mrs. Williams' eyes, you were the perfect example of how Sarah should act and behave. You were always punctual and never without a kind word spoken for anyone. Unlike Sarah, who despised Tobey, her annoying step-brother who consumed all the attention and, therefore, affection.
Despite this, you held no grudge for Sarah. She was simply a hormonal 15 year old with a deeply rooted passion for theatre; while you were a 19 year old with simple aspirations for life. You were a fresh-faced, young adult with the world ahead of you, and yet you idolised your parents marriage and desired for a love life so similar.
Mr and Mrs. Williams then swiftly departed with minimal instructions, seeing as how you babysat Tobey and Sarah frequently. There weren't many house rules that you needed to remember, as a lot of them were similar to your own. They were reasonable—don't make a mess, clean up after yourself, be respectful, and don't go in their bedroom.
You waved Mr and Mrs Williams' away and closed the door once they were out of sight. Then, you headed up the stairs and down the hall to Tobey's bedroom, where he was awake and smiling fondly from his crib.
You reached in and pulled him out, tapping your finger playfully against his little button nose. He squealed in delight and nuzzled into your warmth, and your heart melted at the motion. It would be a dream for you to have a child one day, and if they were as wonderful as Tobey then you'd be satisfied.
"What shall we do this evening?" You asked Tobey with a curious hum. You gently patted his bum as you held him, taking note of how red his eyebrows were and how droopy his eyes had become. "Perhaps we should settle you to sleep."
And so you lay him down in your arms with one of the many picture books from his room, then settled yourself into the comfy rocking chair across from his crib. You skilfully opened the book with one hand and began to read to Tobey.
Within seconds, his eyes fluttered shut and his soft snores filled your ears. You placed the book onto the shelf next to you and continued to rock Tobey for a little while longer before settling him down into the crib. You placed a bear into his hand and tucked a blanket under his arms, then you stroked his head and blew him a loving kiss.
You slipped out of the room and closed the door with a soft click. Then, you headed downstairs and into the kitchen, where you began making yourself a cup of tea. You made your way into the lounge and cosied yourself onto the sofa, flicking on the TV and searching through some of the channels.
The door opened half an hour later, the rain only getting heavier, with Sarah dripping wet and her shoes thick with mud. You jumped up to greet her, a smile lighting your face, but Sarah's immediate scowl caused you to freeze in the doorway.
"Let me get you a towel," you offered, gesturing to her dripping hair, which clung to the sides of her face. You entered the downstairs bathroom and pulled out a fresh, clean towel, then you headed back to Sarah where she kicked off her shoes in the foyer. You tried not to grimace at the mud that was now stained into the beautiful carpet.
You approached Sarah and held out the towel for her to take. "Here."
Sarah huffed and practically snatched the towel from your hands. You retracted your hands awkwardly and lingered next to her as she roughly began drying her hair. "Why are you still here?" Sarah asked as she lowered the towel, her 'thank you' nonexistent.
You tried not to frown, but your lips twitched at the abruptness of her words. "Mrs Williams asked me to stay until they returned home later. I won't be a bother. I'll just care for Tobey and stay out of your way. You won't even notice I'm here unless you need me."
Sarah nodded slowly. It was obvious that she was trying to not feel overstepped with her babysitting abilities, but at the same time she was grateful that she didn't have to think about Tobey for the night. This way, it meant she could continue with her passions and read through the play she'd been hooked into.
Without another word spoken, Sarah handed you back the towel and headed up the stairs. You watched and sighed heavily as she disappeared, her door slamming loudly throughout the house. You flinched at the noise, paused and waited for Tobey to wake up and start crying, but the quiet continued much to your relief.
You immediately placed the dirtied towel into the laundry basket and set to work gathering cleaning supplies to clean the mud from the foyer. You pulled on some marigold gloves and began scrubbing, watching with a slight grimace as the mud barely started to lift from the carpet. It was such a thick carpet, meaning it absorbed 90% of everything; that didn't mean you were going to half-arse the task and leave a smear, you'd have it spotless by the time you were done.
You didn't need Mr and Mrs Williams returning home to mud on their carpet. It would only cause an argument between them and Sarah, and you knew Sarah was having enough troubles with her emotions as it was; she didn't need the added pressure like this.
Then, breaking your thought and task, Tobey's cry rang out from upstairs. You immediately pulled off the gloves and left them on the floor, by the bowl of warm water and cleaning fluids. You hastily hurried up the stairs to get to Tobey before his cries could disturb Sarah.
However, you were startled to see Sarah already standing in the room, towering above Tobey with one of her collection bears clutched in her hand. She glared down at the infant child, spewing words of hatred at him.
You pushed yourself in front of Tobey and scooped him up from the crib, holding him in a loving embrace to give him the reassurance that he very much needed.
"Sarah," you said in exasperation, "why did you wake Tobey up? He was fast asleep—"
"He stole Lancelot!" Sarah interrupted harshly, pointing an accusing finger at Tobey.
You gently caressed his head and began gently bouncing him in your arms. His cries began to calm into the occasional whimper. You tried not to get angry with Sarah and her accusations; how could a baby steal something from another room? He couldn't even walk properly yet!
"He didn't steal your bear," you corrected, "Mrs Williams probably gave it to him for comfort. I don't understand what the big deal is. You could have taken it back without waking him up."
Sarah let out a bitter laugh. She threw her hands in frustration and began moving towards the door. Then, she paused. Her shoulders went stiff, and slowly she turned around to face you again, something dark crossing her face.
You shifted uncomfortably at the expression.
Then, she began to chant something absurd and lyrical. "Goblin King, Goblin King, wherever you may be: take this child and its keeper far away from me!"
You blinked rapidly, flinching as thunder crackled n the sky behind you. You whipped around, watching as the wind somehow forced the bedroom windows open. You scurried over to them and closed them fast with one hand, double-checking that the lock was securely in place to prevent it from happening again.
Outside the window, you saw an owl sitting ominously on the branch in the tree. It flapped its wings in the wind, and you automatically moved away from the window as lightning flashed in the sky.
You turned to face Sarah, feeling hurt by her words. Surely she didn't actually want some fictional character to come and steal her neighbour and brother away? But the seriousness on her face only confirmed the cruelness of her word.
Tobey began crying loudly again. You attempted to calm him while confronting Sarah. "You don't mean that," you said, frowning as heart spread throughout your chest, "I understand you're angry and upset, but there's no need to—"
"I wish the Goblins would take you far away from me. Right. Now."
Sarah spun around and fled the room, slamming the door shut behind her. You flinched and held Tobey closer, bouncing him and shooshing him as best as you could while you felt so upset yourself. You'd just have to settle Tobey and then try and have a civil conversation with Sarah without her—
—A shadow moved quickly from the corner of your eye. You turned around to look at it, only to see that nothing was there. Your heart skipped a beat at the thought of a rat or rodent residing in Tobey's bedroom. So, despite him still crying loudly, you placed him into his crib where he was safe, and you gently stepped over to the spot where you had seen something move.
You pushed the rocking chair to the side. You moved the curtain. You looked down the side of the changing table. There was nothing to see; no holes, no scratches; no sign of a rodent or any evidence that there ever was one.
You chuckled to yourself in relief. You weren't a fan of rats and creatures so small; their little teeth frightened you. Who knows how you would have reacted if there had actually been a creature there?
Adding on to your settling fright, the bedroom lights flickered rapidly before suddenly going out. You glanced up at the dead bulb, then curiously to the window where the thunder continued to boom loudly. You chewed your lip in frustration, now knowing you'd have to deal with a power outage, an angry teenager and a crying baby.
A crying baby.
The quietness of the room suddenly dawned on you. You looked over to Tobey's crib, dread washing over you at the abrupt silence.
Why wasn't he crying anymore?
"Tobey?" You whispered, unsure of yourself. It was possible that he had fallen asleep, but Tobey was the type of baby that needed help in doing so. You started to step slowly towards the crib, the hairs on the back of your neck standing on end, goosebumps forming along your arms.
You peered into the crib.
It was empty.
Your chest tightened in panic. You stumbled back and rapidly glanced around the room in search for Tobey. But he wasn't there. There was no sign of him anymore. You breathed heavily and immediately made your way to the door, questioning the reality of the situation.
Perhaps Sarah had taken him when you weren't looking? But why would she have come back after storming away like that? Did she feel guilty for the things she said?
You reached the door and twisted the handle. It wouldn't open. You twisted again. And again. Only to be met with the same results. Tears filled your eyes as the panic really started to settle in, and then you found yourself pounding your fist against the door to try and catch Sarah's attention. You even started calling her name.
Did she lock you in? No, there wasn't a keyhole in the door to begin with, how could she possibly do that? And the door opened inwards, meaning stacking something from the outside wouldn't trap you effectively.
Maybe, just maybe, there was some sort of reasonable explanation for all of this.
After another minute of pulling and pushing at the door, you decided to try and escape through the window. It was your best bet at getting back into the main area of the house, where you could begin your search for Tobey again.
You froze immediately, now suddenly aware of the person sitting and swaying in the rocking chair. Your breath hitched in your throat, your mind overwhelmed with the thought that somebody had broken into the house and was watching you quietly in the corner.
You didn't dare speak a word, afraid of what would happen if you tried to make a noise.
"Sarah," the person, a man, suddenly called out. You tensed at the name, wondering how much of you he had observed. Had you just placed Sarah in danger? Now that this man knew Sarah was also here, surely he'd hurt you first and then go after her.
"Sarah!"
Confusion settled in as he continued to repeat Sarah's name, like he was some sort of parrot. The way he said her name, in a desperate tone, as if he were calling her name in hopes that she would come and help. Then it dawned on you that he was mocking you. He had heard you call Sarah for help, and now he was rubbing salt in the wound that Sarah must be actively ignoring you.
You tried to summon your courage, but found that your entire body shuddered in fear. Still, you resolved yourself enough to be able to squeak out a pathetic: "who are you?"
It's not the question you truly wanted to ask. You were in despair of where Tobey had vanished off to. You were desperate to know why Sarah hadn't answered your frightened yells. But it's the question that you managed to ask.
He stood slowly from the rocking chair, now rising above you in height. You had to tilt your head back to see his full length, and you gasped at the fact that he had at least a head difference. You tried to swallow your fear, but you knew you weren't brave enough to do so.
He reached out, his fingers tucking underneath your chin in such a delicate way. He caressed your neck as though you were fragile, as if you would break if he prodded you too hard. You tried not to shiver as his fingers traced your jaw.
"I am Jareth, The Goblin King, and I have come to take you away."
The Goblin King. Your mind instantly raced back to the plea that Sarah had spoken earlier that night, the one where she begged that fictional entity to come and steal away Tobey and yourself. Though, you were starting to feel as though her plea may have truly reached the ears of The Goblin King, and that your fear wasn't just playing a cruel joke on you.
"Take me away?" You repeated dumbly, your mind going blank at the very thought.
Take you to where?
You managed to tilt your head away from Jareth, your eyes trailing towards the bedroom door. "But... Sarah..."
Jareth gently guided your head back to face him, and you allowed him to do so, feeling rather useless and weak in his presence. "But, Sarah," he openly mocked, his twisted smile reaching his dark, sparkling eyes. "Sarah is the one who wished for this, and I cannot ignore it."
Then, the room began to morph around you. The walls curled inwards, the furniture cracked and groaned. You remained perfectly still as this change occurred, unsure and too frightened to truly try and flee.
"Good girl," Jareth whispered, his head leaning down so he could whisper in your ear. "You must be tired..."
You weren't feeling tired before, but with all the emotions now washing away, you definitely felt the fatigue creeping in. You blinked slowly, sensing that the drowsiness was more than just your body craving sleep; this must be some strange effect that Jareth was having on you.
Then, you felt your body lean forward, your head pressing into Jareth's shoulder. His arms encircled your body, trapping your frame against his. And as you closed your eyes, letting sleep consume you, you heard him cackle loudly.
