"Yes bambina, I'm coming up to your place now. I can't wait to see it! And this new man! From your pictures, I know he's gorgeous, but I need to make sure he's good enough for you. See you in ten." Stella told Kelly as her car pulled up the the address. The flight had been long but ultimately fine. She could desperately use a hydrating facial though. Maybe they could grab all the girls, she thought Kelly's new guy had a sister, and go to the spa. With that thought, the car pulled up to a large house with beautiful landscaping. That was a benefit to California, though Stella didn't care much for gardening. She exited the car while the driver grabbed her bags. She had tried to pack light, this was only a few days' trip, but Stella liked to be prepared for any possibility. Plus she brought presents! She saw a figure emerging from the doorway and waved. "Hello, I'm here! Let me tell you the flight seemed to take forever, I forgot how long New York to LA really is."

Your Rights to Wear a Mask in Public in Nassau County - Published Aug 14, 2024
Follow the link to help or take action!
Politicians across the country, including Governor Kathy Hochul and Mayor Eric Adams, have voiced support for enacting mask bans under the guise of stopping crime. On Long Island, Nassau County has already enacted a broad, overreaching mask ban. This comes as COVID-19 continues to surge and protestors face continued, unrelenting doxxing and targeted surveillance.
Here’s what you need to know.
Are there mask bans currently in effect in New York State? Nassau County’s “Mask Transparency Act” was signed into law on August 14, 2024 and went into effect immediately. Ballston Spa, a village near Albany, has passed its own mask ban targeting protestors. It remains legal to wear a mask or other face covering elsewhere in New York State.
Mayor Eric Adams and Governor Kathy Hochul have both publicly expressed support for enacting mask bans, and New York Assemblymember Jeffrey Dinowitz introduced a statewide mask ban in May, but the bill has not yet proceeded through the legislature and is not in effect.
What types of face coverings or masks will be affected by this law? Nassau County’s mask ban language is vague and does not differentiate between medical masks like N95s, KN95s and surgical masks, and other types of masks or “facial coverings” including niqabs, burqas, wrapping a scarf or bandana around your face, and costume masks.
What is the penalty if I am arrested for wearing a mask? Violating Nassau County’s mask ban is considered a misdemeanor, and those arrested can be subject to a $1,000 fine, one year imprisonment, or both.
Is there an age restriction in the Nassau County mask ban? No, a person wearing a mask or other face covering of any age, including children, can be charged with a violation of Nassau County’s mask ban.
Can I be stopped by a police officer just because I am wearing a mask? In Nassau County, yes.
Officers are supposed to have “reasonable suspicion” that you are engaging in, or intend to engage in, criminal activity in order to stop you. However, Nassau may try to apply this broadly to include wearing a mask while driving, wearing a mask while gathering in a public place – such as a bus stop, block party, or protest – or knowingly allowing or helping people who are masked to gather in a public place.
Do I have to remove my face covering if an officer asks me to? Police cannot force you to take off your mask unless you are stopped in a vehicle or they have reasonable suspicion that you are engaging in or intend to engage in a criminal activity in Nassau County.
Can I be arrested just for wearing a mask in Nassau? Law enforcement officers need probable cause to arrest you – meaning they must have solid evidence based on objective circumstances that you have committed, are committing, or are about to commit a crime. However, Nassau’s broad bill language could allow police to interpret probable cause to include something as banal as wearing a mask while gathering in a public place – such as a bus stop, block party, or protest – or knowingly allowing or helping people who are masked to gather in a public place.
Are there exceptions for people wearing masks for health or religious purposes? Yes. The Nassau legislation states that it:
“…shall not apply to facial coverings worn to protect the health or safety of the wearer, for religious or cultural purposes, or for the peaceful celebration of a holiday or similar religious or cultural event for which the wearing of masks or facial coverings are customarily worn.”
The “health and safety” exception applies only to those who are masking to protect their own health and safety, and does not apply to those who wear a mask solely to protect others. For example, someone who wears a mask for the sole purpose of protecting a family member who is immunocompromised from exposure to illness is not legally permitted to wear a mask in public under Nassau County’s mask ban. It also doesn’t allow those who are sick – with a cold or flu, for example – and may be contagious to wear a mask to protect others and prevent the spread of illness.
Law enforcement must respect the religious practices of everyone they come into contact with. If you wear a niqab or burqua, you should not be required to remove your religious garb unless absolutely necessary – for instance, should you be arrested, law enforcement can mandate your face is unencumbered if your photograph must be taken. If you are made to remove your niqab or burqa, you can request that you be able to do so in a private room with female officers, and where male officers are not present. Currently, Nassau County does not have codified policies governing how law enforcement must engage with people wearing religious garments such as niqabs and burqas, and decisions about religious head and face coverings are left to the discretion of the police department and sheriff’s office.
Do I have to prove my religious or health reasons for wearing a facial covering to law enforcement? No. Law enforcement cannot make you provide a doctor’s note proving your health reasons for wearing a mask, nor force you to disclose private health information.
They also cannot make you provide evidence of your religious affiliation or religious practices.
How can I fight back against mask bans? Get Involved and learn more:

Chapter One:
The Only Living Boy In New York
"Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world."
~Marilyn Monroe
Song: Manhattan by Ella Fitzgerald & Buddy Bregman
Present day.
The perfect ringlets that form naturally at the ends of Harry's hair, which were there this morning, have metamorphosed into effortless beachy waves most people envy. The usual result from Manhattan humidity and overly fussing about with his fingers. It's a shampoo commercial moment as it falls against his back.
Harry squeezes the bridge of his nose, a temporary relief from sinus pressure. "Are we done?" he asks with his eyes closed.
He wonders if Zayn would notice if he took a kip on the chaise by the toilets.
“Never,” Zayn responds whilst his nimble fingers sort through a display of Celine totes.
He would.
To Zayn's dismay, Harry's met his limit of consumerism for the day. He typically loves to shop; specifically when it's time to restock his art studio. Although, he's accustomed to leisurely drifting in and out of thrift shops and vintage boutiques. He allows clothing and accessories to find him. This… this has been an Olympic event. Zayn warned him beforehand that his rookie status wouldn't be tolerated today.
After an extensive marathon of pampering and excess, Harry's eager to go home and decompress from their shopping extravaganza. He loves Zayn fiercely, but Harry's borderline fatigued. This is the sixth or tenth store they've been to; he's lost count. Each one, serving a different purpose. Zayn had to explain this to him, like he did at the last three stores.
"This isn't one of your nifty thrifty's, darling. There's no one-stop shop for all our needs. Well, maybe Bergdorf's."
A crash course in fashion's utility as such has been mentally and physically strenuous. If they’d concluded this field trip after facials at the spa and mimosa brunch, Harry’d be in complete nirvana.
However, the tranquil mood a much needed massage had granted him has now been replaced with extreme tension in his muscles. His sciatica keeps jolting his nerves into spasm and his toes are most definitely numb. He would've worn trainers instead of his beloved boots if he knew it was going to be this intense.
"It costs a lot to be this beautiful," Zayn throws some more fortune cookie wisdom his way as he picks up a Louis Vuitton bum bag.
"I lost my soul somewhere between Mercer and Broome," he responds dryly.
"We can't all be as cool as you."
“Matt got this shirt for me in Tokyo,” Harry tugs at the end of a vintage Queen t-shirt from the eighties.
Zayn looks up at him and smiles softly. “He had the best finds. I know it's sentimental, but I also know for a fact that Matt would've told you to buy whatever the fuck you please after selling out your first exhibition. This is a triumph for you. You're allowed.”
"I've bought some things since then."
"Interior design excluded." Zayn's mouth twitches.
“Yeah, yeah,” Harry concedes. "So, what's on the menu here?"
There's no other option than to swim with the current force that is Zayn.
He looks at Harry, contemplating his wardrobe journey. "This place has phenomenal denim…" He holds his hands in the air, scanning the store, like a director setting up their next frame. "Thinking of some new washes. You'd look fabulous in a mid-blue rinse." Zayn turns back to him and tilts his head. "There are other colors besides black."
"What's wrong with black jeans?"
"Nothing. Doesn't mean you have to wear them every day. You're not Superman."
Harry arches an eyebrow. "Aren't I?"
Zayn ignores him while admiring a Givenchy satchel. He adjusts the collar on his gorgeous Alexander McQueen gunmetal leather jacket. It's not nearly cold enough yet for the biker chic inspired hide, but as he declared before they left Harry's flat, “We must suffer for fashion the same way we do for art."
Zayn glances over at him. "I do adore your vintage, starving artist tees and ripped jeans." He offers some reassurance. "Even though you could do with a little glam rock." Though he often makes fun, Zayn's admitted in the past he approves of Harry's style choices. No matter how eccentric they are. His eyes land on Harry's boots. "Starting with those."
Harry looks down at the worn out brown leather boots he found at one of the first thrift shops he visited in the city. He treasures them. They've given him so many miles. He'll never part with them.
He looks back up. "No."
“Veronica!” Zayn calls out and, like a best laid plan, a tall sales associate appears with silky raven tresses styled into a long bob haircut. Veronica approaches them wearing a stunning bordeaux Bowie inspired jumpsuit. Lipstick the same shade. It captures Harry's eye instantly.
She walks over and magically produces a large box with the Saint Laurent Paris logo printed onto it. Ignoring the box, Harry scans the details of Veronica's ensemble as he admires her whole look.
Zayn catches Harry's eye and asks, "Who makes this?" As he brushes a finger over the fabric of her sleeve.
"Custom," Veronica responds vaguely.
It's unique and Harry can understand her discretion.
"H, you'll sympathize as an artist. When anything innovative or gorgeous as this is mass produced, it usually turns to shit. There's something about a piece being one of a kind that's priceless."
Veronica nods her head once.
"I wouldn't share either." Zayn nods back and brings the focus back to Harry, who automatically shakes his head at the box he's holding.
Zayn clears his throat, ignoring his stubbornness and signals for the big reveal. Veronica lifts the lid and Harry swears a little golden light appears, leaving a glow shining from the box.
Zayn tilts the box closer to him for the full effect. "Harry, let me introduce you to your new friend, Chelsea."
He holds up the gorgeous, buttery tan suede heeled boots. "Classic and a forever staple."
"My mother, grandmothers, and aunts all passed down their retail D.N.A. to me. These," he gestures to the boots, "are an investment." Zayn imparts some more wisdom.
Harry ignores his rising heart rate and briefly hesitates. Inevitably he gives in, running his fingers along the soft leather. The sensation is divine and smells heady in the best way possible. Boots have always been his weakness. He succumbs.
"Fine," he says like it's an imposition and grabs the boots.
He sits down to try them on and takes off his old boots while placing the faded leather comrades next to a plush chair beside him. He's wearing his Hello Kitty socks today.
"Precious," Veronica comments and walks away towards another customer who's borderline distressed.
Song: Get On Your Boots by U2
Harry meticulously takes out all of the cardboard and packing paper. The boots slip on like a second skin. He stands up, beaming.
"Yeah. Thought so," he smirks. Zayn's super hero sixth sense always prevails. He knew Harry would eventually buckle for the gorgeous footwear.
Harry spins around in front of the mirror and does a little jig with his toes pointed.
Zayn shakes his head as he walks away. "I'm going to look for some jeans."
Harry gives him a salute and walks around the store, enjoying the boots that have already changed his life a little bit. They even have a slight heel. The soles produce a satisfying clacking sound against the stone floor as he strolls back to his old boots. They look so sad, slouching against the chair, out of shape and worn with holes. Harry frowns and picks them up. He knows it's corny but, "Still love you the best. Thank you for taking me where I needed to be," he says quietly.
Someone within his ear shot snorts, and he gently drops the boots. Harry looks up slightly embarrassed.
☆ This was definitely more than a snippet. A snip deluxe. I'd love to one day finish this fic I started seven years ago. All the inspo to my fellow writers and creators who have started something and life has gotten in the way or time is not of the essence. I empathize and relate on all levels.
Shout out to my Beta, Lau @nyxdaughterofkhaos , nothing but love and respect!!! Looking forward to continuing this journey with you ❤️
As always, if anyone has any art to share.

Auto renew the vicious loop
When it comes to removing friction, some companies have gotten extremely good at it. However, becoming good at it does not mean higher customer satisfaction. Think of all those amazing membership auto renew deals we have gotten sucked into. Yes, those are extremely frictionless, but they mostly benefit the company, not the customer. There is one examples particularly that comes to mind of a membership that sounds great but is extremely difficult to exit, leading to endless hours on customer service calls just to make the monthly draining of your account stop.
Occasionally, I treat myself to a pampering session and get a facial treatment done. On one of these experiences, I stumbled across Skin Spa New York. They are a skin care clinic with various locations in major cities in the US, which provide various treatments. After my treatment, as I was checking out, the receptionist informed me of their membership offering. In theory it sounds great, a discount on a monthly facial, sign me up! The benefits include a monthly facial (from a choice of five treatments), a free treatment on your birthday, various discounts on further purchases and even discounts for friends.
However, what they fail to inform you of, is the terms and how difficult these can be to keep up. Ultimately making it extremely difficult to end the membership. Membership fees are automatically billed on the 1st of each month, cancelable at any time they say, however, you must email them to request a cancelation before the 20th of each month, after 3 months of membership. Unused Membership treatment can be rolled over up to 60 days but no refunds or credit for unused months or lesser value service will be issued. The list goes on and on about policies you need to follow to be able to qualify for the promised services. This just shows how what is frictionless for the company is an actual added pain point for the customer. If you read some customer reviews, they discuss the difficulties for refund on services they were mischarged for. The automatic payment system does indeed remove friction for some parties but adds it for others.
What ends up happening is that once you opt into the membership it can be extremely hard to exit, creating that lobster trap scenario: easy in, hard out. This leads to the monthly payment and accumulation of credits that are never used. Finally, when one wants to cancel one is faced with the option of either canceling and losing all credits or trying to fit multiple treatments into one month. A process that seems frictionless for the customer is only frictionless when it comes to aspects that benefit the company. On the other hand, the aspects that the customers care about are riddled with friction; think back and forth emailing to cancel the membership, difficulty booking and rescheduling appointments. When we think of automation and erasing of friction, we must remember for whom we are removing that friction and for whom might we be creating a lot more friction.
The introduction of new technologies will only further increase this discrepancy if we are not attentive. We can all agree that the process of paying for a service is time consuming and can be seen as a pain point for both company and customer. But when introducing a technology to streamline that process, we must be very attentive as for who it is benefiting. We could also think of that pain point of a great opportunity to change the narrative. Why not make this a last impression touch point? Imagine instead of a simple paying transaction, you are given an infused water and a warm towel for your hands as you exit the establishment. Instead of simply trying to remove pain points, we must focus on the customer experience and look for ways to translate those pain points into memorable experiences.

It was radium— “my beautiful radium” as Marie called it—that seemed the most promising of these new materials. Polonium was too intensely active, burning itself away within a year. Uranium was more stable but less energized, dribbling its radiation comparatively slowly away. Radium, on the other hand, glowed with promise. It decayed slowly; its half-life was sixteen hundred years, yet it spat and sparked with a steady release of energy. The Curies had measured radium’s intensity at some three thousand times that of uranium. It was rather like finding a tiny star buried in the dirt. A very tiny star—the Curies had isolated only 100 milligrams of pure radium from some three tons of uranium ore. But that gave it the allure of something truly rare. Within two years physicians had learned that the application of radium salts to a tumor would shrink the cancer. “Radium therapy” was introduced into hospitals shortly after the turn of the twentieth century. Physicians reported healing effects that seemed miraculous, especially compared to the therapies of old. The newspapers compared radium’s magic to the golden healthful rays of the sun. Everyone wanted to stand in what seemed a naturally healing light. Radium use spread quickly into consumer products. There were bottles of radium water (guaranteed to make the drinker sparkle with energy), radium soda, radium candy, radium-laced facial creams (to rejuvenate the skin), radium-sprinkled face powder (in four clearly labeled tints: white, natural, tan, and African), soaps and pain-relieving liniments and lotions. Researches discovered that the European hot springs, famed for their healing powers, contained radon, a gas greated by the decay of radium, released as water dissolved in minerals in the rocks that lay beneath the springs. Perhaps, scientists suggested, the health effects of the mineral hot springs came from radioactive elements in the ground. Spas in upstate New York rushed to compete by dropping uranium ores into their swimming pools. A New Jersey company grew rich selling hundreds of thousands of bottles of Radithor: Certified Radioactive Water as a tonic that guaranteed new vigor and energy. Radiant health, the ads proclaimed—beautiful skin, endless vigor, and eternal health—ingesting radium seemed the next best thing to drinking sunlight.

Word of mouth is still one of the best ways to find great barbers in town. So, ask your friends and family who they go to for their haircuts and get recommendations from them on where you should go. This way, you can be sure that you will get the cut you want and have a familiar face at the salon.
iii. Look for other services:
Not all barber NYC service hops are created equal, so look for one that offers additional services such as beard trims, facial treatments, and products. This way, you can turn your simple haircut into a full spa day and make sure you leave looking and feeling like a million bucks!
iv. Consider Your Budget
Barbers services vary in price depending on the type of cut or style you're looking for. So before getting a new haircut, set a budget to ensure you get the most bang for your buck.
v. Location:
The location of the barbers NYC shop is also essential to consider. If you're a busy professional and only have a little time to spare, then choose a barbershop that is close to your home or office so you can get in and out quickly.

Mini Facelift Cost: What to Expect in 2024
A mini facelift is a popular cosmetic procedure designed to rejuvenate the lower face and neck, offering a more youthful appearance without the invasiveness or long recovery times associated with a full facelift. The procedure targets sagging skin, loose muscles, and wrinkles, usually around the jawline, neck, and cheeks. However, one of the most common questions potential patients ask is: What is the cost of a mini facelift?
Factors That Influence the Cost of a Mini Facelift
Geographic Location The cost of a mini facelift can vary widely depending on where the procedure is performed. Major metropolitan areas or high-demand cities, such as New York, Los Angeles, or London, generally have higher prices due to the cost of living and demand for aesthetic procedures. Smaller towns or regions with fewer practitioners may have lower costs.
Surgeon’s Expertise and Reputation Highly experienced, board-certified plastic surgeons often charge more for their expertise. Surgeons who have a reputation for delivering high-quality results may command a premium for their services. While it's tempting to choose the least expensive option, the quality of the results and your safety should always be a priority.
Procedure Complexity The extent of the mini facelift can affect the cost. Some patients may require only a minor tightening of the skin and muscles, while others might need additional contouring or liposuction in the neck area. The more complex the procedure, the higher the cost.
Anesthesia Fees Mini facelifts are typically performed under local anesthesia with sedation, although some patients may opt for general anesthesia. The type of anesthesia used can influence the overall cost of the surgery.
Facility Fees The setting in which the surgery takes place—whether in a medical spa, a private practice, or a hospital—can affect the cost. A surgical center with higher-end facilities and equipment may charge more.
Post-Operative Care After a mini facelift, you’ll need follow-up appointments and possibly post-surgical treatments like compression garments or lymphatic drainage massages. These additional care costs should be factored into your total expenditure.
Typical Price Range for a Mini Facelift
In 2024, the cost of a mini facelift in the United States typically ranges from $4,000 to $8,000. However, prices can go as high as $10,000 or more in major cities or for particularly complex cases. In other countries, the cost may differ significantly. For instance, a mini facelift in Europe could cost between €3,000 to €7,000, while prices in countries like Mexico or Thailand may start as low as $2,500 to $4,000.
Additional Costs to Consider
Consultation Fees: Some surgeons charge for initial consultations, although many offer free consultations or apply the fee toward the cost of the surgery if you decide to proceed.
Medications: Pain relievers and antibiotics prescribed after surgery may not be included in the initial price.
Recovery Supplies: You might need to purchase special creams, bandages, or facial masks to help with recovery and minimize swelling or scarring.
Insurance and Financing Options
In most cases, a mini facelift is considered a cosmetic procedure and isn’t covered by insurance. However, many clinics and surgeons offer payment plans or financing options that can make the cost more manageable. These options typically allow you to pay for the procedure over time, with low-interest rates or flexible repayment terms.
Conclusion
The cost of a mini facelift can vary depending on a range of factors, but it generally falls within the $4,000 to $8,000 range in many locations. While the price is an important consideration, it’s crucial to also focus on the qualifications and experience of the surgeon, as well as the overall quality of care and results. Be sure to do thorough research, ask for multiple consultations, and choose a provider you trust to ensure the best possible outcome.
