Liliana Porter and Ana Tiscornia’s “Untitled with Sky” (2010) at MNR Scarborough station explores illusion and truth, depicting a sky in faceted glass panels and sculptural seats clad in mosaic, all the while set on an outdoor platform surrounded by sky. The swirling, curved shapes in blues, purples, and rose serve as an expressive extension of the actual sky as it changes from morning to evening.
Porter’s continued exploration into fiction versus reality is on view in her solo show “Untitled with Her” at Bienvenu Steinberg & J through October 14.

honestly shout out to faceted black glass buttons. one of my favorite front-closure options for tops
like, look at these little gals:
Tumblr media
understated, but with undeniable visual interest! not too bland, but not going to distract from anything else on your jacket, blouse, or bodice! a bit of sparkle that's cheaper and less fragile than bead appliques! not plastic, which is key purely because fuck plastic beyond medical/safety applications!
some have fancier designs in the faceting:
Tumblr media
some have gold lustre, which pulls a BIT more focus but still not too much:
Tumblr media
(I got a full set of 6 with little gold butterflies on them. it was fate. I love them so much)
she's carrying the entire Black Or Jewel-Tone Tops world on her shoulders and we should all say Thank You, Faceted Black Glass Buttons

Sommerso vase in burgundy-yellow Murano glass, Italian manufacture, dating back to around the 1960s.
The burgundy red and yellow colors are obtained thanks to the 'Sommerso' technique; developed in Murano in the 1930s and very popular in the 1950s and 1960s. The result is a glass with contrasting colors covered with a transparent layer.

Took some pictures of the finished piece in the sun, I finished it a while ago, just haven't gotten around to taking pictures. It can be hard to get good ones that show off all the facets well enough. I'm pretty happy with it, the little rainbows and flecks of blue it throws off are very pretty.

Celebrate National Book Lovers Day with Béatrice Coron’s “Bronx Literature” (2006) at Burke Av (2,5) station. The colorful faceted glass artwork honors the rich literary heritage of the area and the popularity of reading as an activity for subway riders. The Bronx has been the home and inspiration of numerous writers, and in “Bronx Literature,” Coron portrays four great writers' works: Edgar Allan Poe's “Ulalume and other poems”; Sholem Aleichem's “Mottel, the Cantor's Son”; James Baldwin's “The Fire Next Time”; and Nicholasa Mohr's “El Bronx Remembered.” According to Coron, "These authors tell the story of the borough from colonial times to suburban and contemporary community developments. Their works help us travel through time into different social classes and communities, making each of us an insider."

Cutting a larger marble into a d20, so far it's looking really good, it should end up being about the size of a standard d20. I'm still working on a setup for numbering, but this will be a good practice piece before I move on to more expensive materials.

And speaking of expensive, here's a peek at my next project, a pear cut sapphire. I got some of this beautifully colored lab grown sapphire pretty cheap because it was cracked
