The outstanding Cedrus libani (Cedar of Lebanon) at Forty Hall & Estate! It is believed that the celebrated Enfield botanist Dr Robert Uvedale planted this specimen around 350 years ago! This makes this tree one of the oldest surviving examples of its kind in the UK! This evergreen conifer is native to the mountains of the Eastern Mediterranean basin. It is the national emblem of Lebanon - used on both the country's flag and coat of arms. Cedrus libani has been mentioned several times in the Old Testament - the tree's timber was also used in the construction of Solomon's Temple! This amazing succulent is native to the mountains of Lesotho, South Africa. It is know as the Spiral Aloe, but its botanical name is Aloe polyphylla. . This interesting plant is called Hymenocallis sp., or Spider Lily for short. This genus of tender bulbous plants contains over 60 species. They are native to southeastern USA, Mexico, the Caribbean and the likes. The flowers are usually white or yellow and have a lovely fragrance, which is often strongest after dusk.
