In celebration of 10 years of The Bright Sessions (+me starting uni and needing a new backpack) I made a bag inspired by The Infinite Noise by Lauren Shippen.

I've loved this book since first listened to the audio version as a thirteen year old (and read/listened to it wayy too many times since) I've done two school projects involving it and, while I have made a bag inspired by it before, I really wanted to do it justice by incorporating more than just a colour palette and a quote.

For the outside of the bag I used a primary colour scheme, with the yellow and blue for Caleb and Adam and the red drawn from the front cover of the book. I distressed the denim to create white patches and then dyed them.

I used liquid radiance to do all of colouration on the bag. For the front pocket I used the light reactive nature of liquid radiance to create a warped grid pattern like the tiles on the floor of the front cover. It took many skewers, much blu tack and three attempts but I'm happy with how it came out.

The embroidery on the bag flap has a lightbulb, inspired by The Bright Sessions logo and a pair of headphones. The headphones are a reference to the podcast source material and also how music is used throughout the book. I really appreciate how important music is in The Infinite Noise, despite neither character being in a band or studying music or anything of the sort.

The sides have snaps and a water bottle pocket for practicality and I included little loops so I could attach these little adorable heart shaped carabiners for keys and keyrings

FINALLY GOT THESE DAMN PANTS BACK FROM THE TAILOR, the pants from this post lads and ladies!

damn maybe I shoulda ironed them, haven’t been washed in forever, they look rougher in these photos then they actually are

My stiches have slightly gotten a bit more orderly, this pair was like the first I ever started messing with a few years ago

They look kinda small but are actually super nice and worn in, so they have nice stretch, especially in the crotch area. Very roomy and baggy! They are pretty short tho so they don’t cover my ankles

basically my ideal jeans are baggy in the crotch and tight in the legs, thats why I used to buy a lot of girl jeans (which was/is always hubris because not a lot of baggy in the place I want the most)

oh yeah and these and anything else I’ve posted are also hand dyed because I fucking can never find anything I want in fun colors. I use fabric pens, acrylic paint/leather paint/spray paint/nail polish for everything else you see on these jeans

Calling for help from whatever crafting Gods exist on tumblr. I have a white 100% polyester comforter that I want to dye. It’s a size queen and obviously I can’t fit it on the stove like it’s required for dying polyester. I was praying I could use a washing machine but the sources are mixed. My ideal color is a light purple and I don’t want to ruin my sheets on accident. Any advice is very welcome 🙏

Update on my Campbell Bain hoodie if anyone is interested.

Cried because getting the colors exactly right is impossible (I can’t find good quality references pictures and than match a fabric dye to it)

So these colors will have to do.

Every part is dyed now.

But the yellow ish sleeve is still drying.

And I may or may not have lost the black panel……

I’ll find it again at some point. Hopefully.

Also the hoodie was a white hoodie I got at a local store, I took of the pocket (and used that fabric to test the dye), cut it up, and dyed it.

The dye I used is Rits all purpose dye, black, marigold, tangerine and brown

I mixed a little bit of brown into the tangerine to make it a bit darker.

The purple is from a tie dye kit from Amazon.

The beginnings of some experimentation with the dyeballs! Found 3 suitable friends in the park this morning and heres a look at the prepping process.

I used only one for this first test (2nd photo) using them fresh. The rest will be dried and tested in future experiments. They were thinly sliced and any excess spore powder on the older one was cut away. Its the black colored flesh around the peridioles (the lil yellow bits, they're like packets where spores are produced) that imparts the pigment. Then they were simply boiled in 4 cups of water!

I'll post updates on how the tests go and give details on fabric types and timing!!

a little bit of an old project (from late 2022)

It's a satchel inspired by Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas (the design on the front), The Infinite Noise and The Bright Sessions by Lauren Shippen (the colour scheme and the quote on the inside) and finally Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender (the flower design on the side)

The inside's kinda janky but I still like it. This was the biggest project I had ever done at the time

I will admit that it sucks to lose a lot of the color they had pre-dye, but i really love the way the green harmonizes everything

somthin i realized today is that i miiiiiight have fucked up a little. I wanted to experiment with this pair and create the perfect roomy hip/groin situation, but all even after all this stitching i realize i might not be able to get that huge waist-line to shrink much more😅

i'm gonna do the best i can with trying, but 4 the next pair I'm gonna slice up the inside of the legs instead of the outside, and add extra fabric there

either way i absolutely am not doing this anymore with cheap lowriding girl jeans! I'm gonna hafta wear these with suspenders no matter wat, so next time its gonna be higher waisted man jeans dammit

Pros and cons of dying my denim jacket black with paint and nail polish remover:

PROS:

Two sections of my jacket are now (somewhat patchily) dyed black without having to go to michaels and buy a (7$) container of dye :]

CONS:

My bathroom smells like nail polish remover

I broke a sponge brush

I just realized that the nail polish remover is flammable

I have significantly less paint then when I started

My bathroom does really smell like mail polish remover
