Been talking about 2gether here-and-there for a while but seeing your attitude towards it has got me itching to talk a bit about my thoughts on it. Because god, do I have thoughts.

So, I went into 2gether with low expectations. I heard it was subpar from MDL and I don’t like fake dating that much. But with a combination of curiosity over one of the biggest BLs historically and my personal interest in Bright and Win coming off the Bright cameo in Enigma and my enjoyment of Good Old Days, I went into the show. (Probably a different path from most to go from the non-BL to the BL but ahaha)

First thing. The show is very cheap. This shows even moreso because it’s BrightWin? Like, this was their first GMMTV show (and first for Win) so the company definitely didn’t have the drive to put as much money behind the show as they would for a show like F4 Thailand, but goddamn. Second thing. The music in this show was… huh. Were the guitars just not tuned sometimes? What are some of these? I say this as someone who actually loved BL singing, so it was a massive letdown I only enjoyed a few of the (very numerous) musical scenes. The OST for the show was great! But.

Sarawatine are character archetypes I really enjoy in general. I like weird, panicking, cheery bisexual losers (got me through Kiekoi!) and kind of grumpy and cold but devoted to their love interest guys. But the way the show wrote them was so disappointing? I would have expected so much more from the show for its main couple? Like, make me care about the characters, not just hope I’ll ogle at the hot actors and get through the show thanks to the scenarios, please. I usually don’t harp on physical intimacy between characters, also, but 2gether was so uncomfortable. And it sticks out like a sore thumb when the famous line of the show mentions kissing until dropping. There is NO kissing until dropping going on in the Sarawatine apartment, that’s for sure. And seeing some of the subpar acting between them just generally… I wasn’t enjoying myself much.

I actually found the show quite funny in certain scenes. Comedy is hard to judge a show on objectively, but I’ll say I did laugh. But I did not get emotional with the show, even when it wanted me to be. The Mil nonsense was hard to forgive, as was the “girl Sarawat liked!” Oh no! (My sarcasm could not be more embedded here) I genuinely started to feel pain watching the show because of how frustrating I found how Sarawat was dealing with the situation and how Tine was reacting. Like, I don’t care. Please. No one here wanted this cheap emotional climax. Especially after the weird time skip post-getting together.

And. The portrayal of women and the stereotyping of Green. All the women in this show are bland (but cute, thanks to the actresses, at the very least) or actively such a “girl who gets in the way of our BL boys!” that it hurts. And Green. I don’t enjoy when a show uses a feminine gay character as a source of ridicule. Green is seen as lesser by Tine and the others, and yeah, he acts like kind of a creep sometimes in the beginning. But the show writes him like that with a purpose. Of course the one who is openly gay and feminine is also the one pushing boundaries and being a predator. Amazing representation, 2gether. It got worse when it turned out Dim was abusive, and Tine just lets him in? And they get back together? No???? Like. Why. What. Who? Watching Still 2gether, I tried to pretend that whole scene never happened and DimGreen was just a tumultuous on-again off-again relationship, because I actually did find some of their Still 2gether scenes funny, but no. I could not forget. I appreciate the attempts at saving them by Aof, but no. Could not be undone. Green was funny as hell in the second season for me, though, so I’m hoping he dumped that abuser’s ass for good after the show ended.

MilPhukong was… fine. I felt absolutely nothing for them, despite the time invested. I actually quite enjoyed s2 ManType, just for the established relationship of it all and seeing them get along well, so I forgive them, but the s1 plotlines for them were questionable (Man, stop being a creep. Type, what are you doing with irt your brother? Really?)

I think Still2gether was an improvement (director change, yay!) but the emotions still didn’t work for me. I enjoyed the more slice-of-life style of the series and I felt the characters were more likable, but it was a short series with little actually going on. It did leave me off with a much better taste in my mouth, and better scenes all around, though. I imagine I could watch this season again and not groan my way through it. I’d probably even enjoy it if I take it as it is. The foundation can’t be forgotten, though. It is ever-present as a problem.

Oh, and here are some of my (very ineloquent) thoughts on 2gether as I live-blogged it:

This is stupid. Side couple on screen rn is stupid. Tine being a crying cannot communicate uke is stupid. Sarawat is being stupid.

Do not enjoy this simplification but I was very frustrated at the time. I still am.

Okay, now to pull back a little. I can totally understand why people would’ve loved this show. Because I’m 100% sure if I had watched 2gether before other shows, back in 2020, I’d have ignored most of the flaws out of my excitement for a show with cute scenes and pretty boys. Especially at the beginning of the pandemic, and especially if this was my first BL drama. I think that if you just settle into it with that mindset, you can find enjoyment in the show. And honestly, I’m very happy about that. That we’re at this point, with shows like Not Me, Last Twilight, etc. If 2gether is a show that seems horribly outdated now, in just a few years, I think that spells great things for the future of GMMTV BL, even if it isn’t a steady thing (looks at the tournament we’re in). And despite my words on them, I did in fact end up with a soft spot for Sarawatine. I think they’re neat in theory. In practice, not so much, but here I am anyway. The two of them definitely are important to BL, especially in GMMTV, and I respect them for that.

Don’t think I’ll ever rewatch 2gether, though.

I wanna preface this by saying that even though I really don't like 2gether, I don't rembember it in nearly as much detail as you do. I know I don't like it 'cause I immediately didn't while I was watching it and right after when it was still fresh in my mind.

Now, that said, some of the things you mentioned did spark recognition and in general I tend to agree with you. The Green thing, oh Iord! And the guitar........ Unlike you, I tend to shudder when BL boys bring out the guitar so for me that whole show was a real test.

Honestly, I don't need to go into detail more than this 'cause you already put it so eloquently yourself and I also understand what you mean about watching it back when it aired. I'm probably going to regret mentioning it but TharnType also aired in 2019 and is extremely beloved by some. I'm not saying I agree - and I'm generally wary of people who say it's their favorite BL ever - but I certainly understand it and my personal feelings about it too are so complicated I don't even know if I'd be able to put them into words.

What I'm trying to say is that while I have specific preferences and opinions on every BL in this list and many others not on this list, I respect that some of the judgements others have on them come from a very contextual and personal place. As is also the way I feel about the shows I hold dearest! Still, I appreciate the conversations we've been having on all of them 🩷

I think ppl who are waiting w watching Not Me could maybe consider the fact that actors are still filming the series, it's not finished yet and they and the director are checking out each week what ppl say, what are the responses to the new episodes, how many viewers there are. So I'm sure it would definitely feel nice for them to see many ppl are watching it and hear appreciation... just... maybe something to consider?

oh absolutely anon! I'm not one to force anyone to watch stuff when they don't want to, but I would encourage anyone who's waiting to watch not me later or simply wanna encourage the show to watch the four parts of every episode, at least in the background while you do something else to give them more views. gmmtv has been absolute garbage at promoting the show by:

airing it at the same time as the two other biggest gmmtv 2021 shows, bad buddy & f4 thailand (granted covid did force them to so it's not the worst thing they've done, but they could've waited a bit tbh)

airing the show on sunday instead of friday which is bl day for everyone in the fandom

giving the streaming rights to ais play that's an exclusive platform to thailand instead of wetv which is way bigger & watched in many other asian countries

no effort to promote it whatsoever

taking two weeks to put the ost on spotify which means that most people who would've added it right away have already forgotten about it, and frankly just making the main ost of the show not the one offgun sing so obviously making it less popular than if it was the offgun song

not putting english titles on behind the scenes & bonus content which makes it so the majority of the gmmtv fandom (international fans) don't click on it

I could go on & on but I'm tired lol

I do think some of it might be bc gmmtv has already taken a big risk by releasing such a political show, especially in the very unstable political scene in thailand atm, so much so that they had to censor some scenes for the show to even be released in the first place. I do understand that if that show blew up like bad buddy or even bigger like 2gether, it might really piss off the government & put gmmtv in trouble. that being said, I so fucking wish this show would get more love bc again, it's revolutionary just for its political aspect & I'm not even talking about its amazing director, the incredible cast, the very inclusive themes explored in it & the queer storylines of it as well. so yeah, watch not me when you want but giving them your views now is definitely something you should do bc this is by far the most important bl show ever released!

can you believe it!!! i'm back to watching kdramas after some time! 1. Business Proposal I LOVE this one to bits...... it is extremely rare that i like the 2nd leads in any drama at all but this one... i ship both the main and second couple. love this drama and all the cute and heartwarming bits so much. lighthearted and warm; easy to watch. feels like it's so nice to be in love. l find myself getting envious watching this drama. Also AHN HYO SEOP.

2.Crazy Love Started on this one because I love the 2 leads. The starting part was incredibly tough to sit through because i think it's so damn lame and exaggerating.. a little too unrealistic and over the top lol. After the first 4 epis I was a hair's breadth to giving up but somehow i decided to continue ep5 maybe because i was too bored & because i really like the 2 leads so much and i can somehow start to see where the story is going again and I like it! the story line is starting to warm up and love is starting to bloom lol excited for what's about to come and see our cold and prickly ceo fall in love. Also a pretty light and funny drama.

3.Forecasting Love and Weather oooo this drama.. started this because of song kang and a little bit of park min young. the leads play a huge part in why i choose to start on any drama. started off pretty steamy but i'm a little disappointed the steam kind of died down in the later episodes lol feels like climax and kinda meh.. but the story line is pretty steady i would say.. i like that there is always something you can "takeaway" from each episode, almost like a lesson to learn. a drama that makes you reflect in one way or another, makes you think about things. there is always some kind of change every episode, just like how unpredictable the weather is lol also im not extremely into the weather which is kind of a little meh for me but this is a show about the weather, right?

4. Soundtrack #1 decided to start on this purely because i was bored.. not a huge fan of both leads but decided to start on it because i wanted to see how hyungsik was doing and i don't mind the female lead.. i like it because it has A LOT of tension lol unrequited love between 2 bestfriends oooooooooooof unfortunately it is only a short drama with 4 episodes.. also the vibe is pretty soft and mellow which is comfortable.. excited for how their love story is going to play out!!!

1.余生,请多指教 The Oath of Love the drama i watch every single night right before i close my eyes and go to bed. sweet, cute and lighthearted. makes your heart feel full warm and fluffy. a 2019 film but still relevant i guess lol i like that the male lead is just a stuffy wooden block but is warmed by the female lead's warmth just like a ray of light lmao a drama that makes me happy. extremely sweet also with some tension also a little funny.

2. 与君初相识 The Blue Whisper a strong female lead drama which i live for!! sometimes i fear watching this drama because of the heart wrenching storyline. but i still love it because of how pure it is. love both the leads esp reba. i like ren jia lun's acting also ever since i watched 周深如故 and 一生一世.. love those 2 shows to BITS. funny enough this is also a 2 part drama.. as i type part 1 is about to end which makes me so sad and part 2 starts airing on 6 april i believe. love this storyline though, because both leads have nothing but unchanging love for each other and will rather be hated by each other than bear the cruel truth to the other. excited for part 2 also where they will reunite after the female lead dies and is reborn. love this drama!!!!!!!!!! also the ost is everything

3.大约是爱2 About is Love 2 loved the first season so i'm on this... nothing much to say about this drama though, just watching it because i loved the first season.. pretty mediocre storyline but i like it. i just dislike that there is more of the 2nd and 3rd couple in the 2nd installment of this drama. MAIN LEADS ONLY!!!! lol

1. F4 Thailand: Boys Over Flowers ooo damn i LOVE this entire franchise.. i think my #1 so far is still the japanese version.. the visuals of f4 in this drama though.. i would say probably my fav in all the renditions of this franchise. i ship the main leads also.. just for the record i have never shipped the rei and makino in any of the versions; not this one too. I have never thought rei was cute in any of the versions too but THIS THAI VERSION REN IS SO QT!!!!! I think he is even cuter than the main lead. dew y u so qt lol. this version is pretty soft as compared to the others somehow.. i hope they keep riding on this franchise though; whichever country. i hope this drama gets endless remakes lol

2. You are My Heartbeat have not started on this but just keeping this here because I am intending to start on this.. no idea what the story is about but i saw the main poster(?) and I like the male lead so im intending to start on it! phew.. that's quite a bit.. been some time since i've updated so i thought i would.. i'm not ded, just not gif-ing.. i love business proposal and intend on gif-ing it but then again maybe not.. idk.. don't feel like it is a must gif yet lol. i also feel like gif-ing blue whisper omg but then maybe not again lol let's see which drama makes me gif it first... or ultimately none at ha. also i'll probably get bz gif-ing soon because big bang is coming back!!!! so i'll probably not gif any dramas in the end lol what are you watching? let me know if i'm missing a good drama that you think i shouldn't be! also, hope all of you are well, and as always, thank you for being here x

Hmm, I really don’t want to stir any dispute on your blog, but I’m still low-key pissed tbh. 😤

Not Me, a revolutionary series that combines unconventional romance with a critical inquiry into society, gets a meagre 2 original OGs. Meanwhile F4 Thailand (which in honesty I do watch for entertainment, as a slightly public guilty pleasure 🤭), which to me still seems a little bit like Thai 30rw (but without anybody dying and a lot less deranged), seems to get one original OST per 2 episode! 😒 I guess we can thank capitalism for that… 😐

Again: I loved your analysis. I hope that at one point I feel confident enough to write long content such as that. 😊

hi! lmaooooooo listen I've already triggered some bad buddy fans, let's not trigger the f4 fans too :'))) I'm not watching f4 (yet, many people have told me it's great, but a close friend I trust told me only the female lead's acting is worth it, and now you comparing to 13rw frankly might've completely turned me off from it lol), but I don't think anyone can deny the special treatment this show is getting, with a new ost seemingly every week, a literal behind the scenes documentary, and even now a second trailer out of nowhere. I'm not surprised bc the show contains brightwin & is a highly anticipated remake from a beloved original show, but like... imo it just sucks that covid halted so many productions & made it so gmmtv couldn't release most shows for a good 6 months, forcing them to release all of them at the same time in december. not only has it felt incredibly overwhelming for us viewers, but most of all, before that each major gmmtv show got the 3 months it aired where all eyes were focused on it & only it. now though, with the constant releases, shows just don't have the momentum they used to have, and I'm afraid with the high number of gmmtv 2022 shows it's only gonna continue down that route... but anyways, I'm over it all tbh... and gmmtv has always been know for its preferential treatment anyway. also glad you enjoyed my analysis though! ♡♡♡
