yourusername: so it’s the australian grand prix and i’ve spent the start of the week exploring this old city. one of my stops was the historic old melbourne gaol. this now museum was once a prison that housed some of the most feared criminals in australian history. constructed in 1839, the old melbourne gaol saw 133 hanged for their crimes between 1845 and 1924. it was briefly used during world war two but ceased operation as a prison in 1924 and was renovated to be part of the RMIT university and the museum it is today. a definite must if you’re visiting melbourne !!

yourusername: though miami may be known for it's partying (it's all about the U), charles and i took our monday to take a stroll around st bernard de clairvaux church, one of miami's hidden gems. the church was originally built in spain all the way back in 1141 to the style of cistercian romanesque architecture for alfonso vii. the monastry's cloister was illegally purchased by american william randolph hearst in 1926 and in order for the church to be transported it was dismantled to 11,000 pieces and sent to the us where it was rebuilt and still stands to this day.

i feel so high school (au) pt 2. charlos

anyway here are some high school aus for my fav f1 rpf ships and an exploration of who knows how to ball, and who knows aristotle

(based on american high school setups cause of the song)

theatre kid!charles/stage crew!carlos: probably goes without saying but carlos knows how to ball, charles knows aristotle (though maybe not in the traditional sense). so here we’ll have carlos as the stereotypical jock, plays like four sports and is the team captain in all of them, lowkey giving frat boy energy and is honestly the only reason the school has won a game in the last four years. he’s probably known for being the only guy who’s both like a jacked up gym-is-life bro and also an utter gentleman, he’s always the one holding open doors and giving up his seat. and he’s usually pretty quiet/disengaged but if anyone disrespects a female teacher you know for a fact he’s death staring them into a puddle until it stops. the only fight he’s ever gotten into was with a guy who was harassing a girl at a dance and wouldn’t let her go when she tried to pull away.

charles is like the school heartbreaker, because he can never seem to make a relationship work no matter how many times he tries… and it seems like he’s a player and he’s got a different girl every week which isn’t entirely false but he also just doesn’t know how to say no to anyone which is the root of the problem. anyway so yeah i’m making charles a theatre kid, like one who can fit pretty much any role but he prefers the classics (he’s the kind of guy who knows a shakespeare quote for pretty much any situation). he usually gets cast as the love interest whether he wants the role or not but he does get a lot of stage time which he’s happy with. he’s way more comfortable on stage than when he’s actually with people, and his looks get him pretty far but in reality he’s just really awkward and kind of shy and gets flustered so easily.

carlos is on stage crew because he needed to fill the “arts/language” requirement to graduate and stage crew counted as performing arts even though it’s all behind the scenes. so he’s there almost every day, spending more and more time as the shows approach helping build sets and man the ropes and (insert lots of other cool and technical stage crew activities here). so even they know of each other this is the first time their paths really cross and they meet.

this is going to be the most cliche romance ever. charles having breathless pearl-clutching moments of gay panic when carlos gets paint all over his shirt and stops to take it off, or lifts giant sandbags or ladders or planks around like they don’t weigh anything. except ofc charles is way too shy to say anything or make any kind of initiative move so he just finds excuses to stay longer after rehearsals, maybe he starts helping paint the sets/designs cause he’s not bad at visual arts (emphasis on alternate in this alternative universe). bonus if he makes friends with one of the stage crew girls and all of the sudden he’s got a new handler (“look around twink! everything in this office is either dead or dying even the therapy dog killed itself”) who is constantly rolling her eyes at BOTH of their inability to take a hint

this would be the kind of hc that involves dressing rooms and unexpected moments behind curtains etc.

The way we played hot seat was either part of a larger drinking game when a certain card was pulled from a deck, or just on it's own. You sit in a circle, everyone has a drink, usually a beer or cider. In the card pull version, the one who pulls the card gets asked a question by every person playing and if they refuse to answer they drink from their drink. In the standalone, you do that but everyone gets a turn being asked until people get bored and leave. Fun way to find out shit about people. Usually the unwritten rule is that you can't lie. I imagine everyone sitting on shitty chouches and chairs in a semi circle around a table full of cups and bottles playing it

Questions i have been asked: are you a top or bottom? Do you like anal? Wheres the weirdest place you've fucked? Body count? Favorite position (sexual)? Max: is part of the hockey team he will go pro, also actually studies, got into gaming because of Charles, has the nicest car, is serious until he gets a couple drinks in him, he and Daniel are close and roomed together at some point, owns like 30 sets of the same outfit a white tee and jeans, knows reader through Dan and they get dragged by him to some of the same stuff

Lando: is a pledge or new member his big is Carlos, undeclared major, just happy to be here, gaming squad, used to play lacrosse or something equally obscure, king of knowing where the good snacks are, weirdly good at beer pong, growing into a fuckboy wholesomeness level tbd, probably sweet with reader as she helped him through a blackout or something, met her because she's basically house mom for some of the new boys (the kind of mom who will teach you to do laundry or iron ONCE)

Carlos: hockey flow but does not play hockey, actually studies and is smarter than what people give him credit for, came from a private high school and uni really opened his horizons, also good study buddy, gets along with most people, goes to office hours the most out of the actually studies gang, fun at parties, owns the frat dogs, he and reader met at Office hours (they were the only students) and found they had mutual friends too

Lewis: is/was president of frat, great grades greater bod, did full evolution from fuckboy to good man, has the back tests and the moral support, up for late noght talks about life, definitely was a D1 athlete, best fashion game, implemented no hazing policy, fits into notable alum or PhD category

Nicky: a good boy, part of the walks people home squad, sets up designated drivers for parties, good snack game, future in medical field, good listener, pretty good study buddy, midnight snack enabler, met reader through frat and his gf he and reader are on babysitting duty together sometimes when others get too drunk/high

Yuki: also a pledge or new, majoring in games or computer science as they gave me the same energy as him, games squad, bit of a mad lad, has several stolen street signs, good, met reader through frat and Yuki is the only one patient enough to explain some games to reader, they cuss people out on mic

Alex Albon: another full scholarship guy, somehow gets along with everyone, switched majors due to an asshole professor, electrical engineering or computer engineering, actually studies, helps with frat pets,will show you pictures of his cats at home, sweetie, another contender for will hold your hair or walk you home, probably met reader through a class or club and found they had mutual friends and that reader is friends with his gf

Notable alums:

Checo - dad, successful in finance somehow (he looks like an really successful accountant of CFO to me idk why)

Kimi - dad but people forget he is, holds the record for most drinks in 24 hours that will never be come close to by anyone else, shows up on random alum weekends with 2 kegs, legally cannot tell you what he does or he would actually have to murder you

Valterri - was good at a sport when he was there, now a very effective lead engineer at an architectural firm

Seb - environmental or mechanical engineering, all around good guy with someone the best grades in frat history

Anyone I put as actually studies is probably the type reader would hang around for more serious stuff/schoolwork and would probably be closer to, with the exception of Dan bc I feel like he'd be like we're friends now :)) we shall hang or Charles bc he will just show up. The weirdest development of the year is that me 9 months ago: daniel is too fratty for me, truly frat boy supreme, not compatible with the lesbian agenda

Me now that daniel genuinely seems like one of only a handful of sane people in the paddock, the only driver besides lewis who is still talking about blm in november, still talking about mental health along with lando, says there is no shame in admitting he found moving teams tricky bc he's affectionate and gets emotional and emotionally attached easily, the only one to point out the crash porny turn the broadcast took after the red flag: my son.

Still think people wank over him to hard but there is definitely a glow uo

I agree with this - at the start of this season (as in, the original start) I really had fairly minimal time for Daniel because he was the last of the Coulthard fraternity and boy did he try hard at it. He smiles and he’s handsome so he used to get ascribed sort of Lando-esque qualities when he was new to the sport, about whether he was taking it seriously enough, whether too many girls liked him to be credible (sigh but like, this was and still is a thing) and whatever. Daniel could shrug it off by being the ultimate dude’s dude, which fit very smoothly to Red Bull.

And like: he can be a sweet person, I have no doubt but he’s very strategic, he’s very political - as all the best drivers have to be - and he didn’t used to use that for anything other than his own gain. He’d also done some great stuff at grassroots level like Ricciardo Kart and he’s not totally divorced from being a nice guy but it definitely wasn’t his agenda to use his clout for more than contract negotiations, until recently. 

That’s fine, that’s how F1 is - and it doesn’t reflect on who Daniel is as a private person.

The whole frat thing in the paddock, also, is just... bad. That video of him and Hulkenberg (in their late 20s) getting teenage Max so drunk he passes out on a plane is not hilarious if you imagine Max is a girl. Teenage boys shouldn’t be subject to weird hypermasculine hazing from older people - even if they themselves are likely millionaires at the time - any more than girls should but y’know, that’s how the paddock is and was. I’m sure Coulthard and Webber probably did the same to Daniel at some point and he never reflected on it - or likely, neither did Max.

This year, I like that new, reflective Daniel has appeared. That he’s decided to be more of a leader and less of a bro along for the ride, that he’s using the same decision-making and political skills he’s always had to put together sensitive, thought-through things like his newsletters and like the interviews where he’s spoken up.

Did he maybe have to grow out of getting hazed by older drivers and find new ways to be himself? Probably, it’s not like Lewis didn’t do something very similar. But it’s really good to see a more reflective Ricciardo, more analytical and focussed on the future - which he always was but he projected that fratty YOLO energy instead of the more considered and considerate approach he’s now showcasing.

Like, keep listening to Funeral For A Friend and wearing tank tops and laughing at the word balls by all means - all the better for it, it’s not like he needed a personality transplant - but I am glad to see a more mature, inquisitive and ultimately educated side to Daniel not just exist but get publicly aired and demonstrated as he grows in it. I think he’ll be a really good GPDA leader or even FIA person in a few years, now, which I would not have said in 2019.

“some of y’all talk about f1 drivers is literally no different from frat bros” fuck man there really needs to be a phrase for the types of straight girls that fetishize gay men (none of the drivers have publicly stated their sexuality at all) through their own fantasies and covers it up by saying ‘representation’. Have you noticed how the couple almost always becomes one dom and one sub, one masc one fem.....straight girls can’t conceptualize gay couples any other way. Plus I think that there’s something....that they’re taking advantage of when drivers don’t explicitly state their sexuality which 99% of people in a professional context just don’t do. Last summer there was a post asking ppl not to make F1 pride edits with drivers as LGBTQ members seeing as the drivers themselves bar Lewis have never stated any sort of support for the LGBTQ+ community or identified as part of the community.....and people ripped into her saying ‘well you don’t know that they’re not they never said anything!!!!!’ Like they know damn well that most of those drivers are straight, I’ve seen Carlos fan fiction who is a literal fascist, you think he’s not also a homophobe??? Like I feel for the people who want representation but this ain’t the way, show your support to out athletes instead!! There are out women in the W series!!!! Idek where I went with this, it does hurt sometimes because I know who some of these drivers support politicians that are actively far right (Carlos, Max, Kimi) and probably couldn’t give a crap about people like me who suffer under those politicians if they get elected, and it doesn’t matter to the straight girls who write that fan fiction either because it’s just a fetish and a game to them

anyway i’ve said it before and apparently i’ll have to say it again: drivers’ sexualities are absolutely none of our business. if any of them are gay, they are under no obligation whatsoever to come out. yes representation in the pinnacle of european single seaters would be great, but at what cost? since several of these drivers allegedly support far right ideologies, there’s no way an LGBTQ+ driver would feel safe being out in that environment and i personally would NEVER want someone to put themselves in danger for my own benefit. i have a hell of a lot of respect and appreciation for queer athletes who are out, but especially in motorsports, i completely understand and do not blame those who stay closeted for their own safety & peace of mind. 

and on that note: why the fuck would a queer driver come out knowing how fangirls treat gay men in fanfiction lmfao. and if you think drivers aren’t seeing your shit, or don’t even know about the concept, you’re a damn fool.
