AU we deserve: Caranthir saving Aegnor/Andreth by giving Aegnor the angriest pep-talk in history, going off at length about how the women of the Edain are valiant and honourable and deserve fucking better, fucking sons of Finarfin, most useless fuckers on this side of the Sea or the other, I don't give a damn what Finrod thinks, you are going back to that woman and you are going to do the right thing by her. It ends with him dragging Aegnor by the ear back to Ladros and dumping him at Andreth's feet like "This idiot has something he wants to say to you." >:[

imagine if the Sons of Fëanor decide to try and fulfill the Oath another way...And, like, they become this band of ninja elves. They tell themselves that they can't completely fulfill the Oath if they can't get the Silmarili from Morgoth, and the elves of Sirion and Doriath could help. They need more power to defeat Morgoth. And Fëanor would've considered Morgoth's defeat more important than the Silmarili.
So they train in stealth and fighting and Maglor learns songs of hiding. Caranthir steals away funds to pay for the missions that the High King shouldn't know about. Celegorm scouts ways in and out of hidden cities, even if he can't get through Melian's Girdle, and hones his snipery skills. Curufin allies himself with the Dwarves to try and get inside Doriath. If that fails, he tries to sneak in with, like, Finrod or something. Finrod would love to be a ninja. Unfortunately, he is (canonically) horrible at being undercover. Fingon pretends he knows nothing of this.

Lúthien, Dior and Elwing: (don’t hand over the silmarils despite knowing that would probably prevent the Fëanorions from killing anyone cuz they’d have no reason to)
Also them: why do they keep committing kinslayings????
Hot take
The first Kinslaying was the only unjustified one.
The Teleri were innocent people who just didn't want to give up their boats.
If the Noldor wanted to go to Middle Earth so bad they should have tried harder at convincing the Teleri, built their own boats, or tried the Helcaraxe.
Luthien, Dior, & Elwing had NO RIGHT to the Silmarils however. Stealing stolen goods doesn't make you any less of a thief if you know who the rightful owner is and CHOOSE NOT TO GIVE IT BACK.
While I love Elwing, the Feanorians absolutely had the right to fight her and her useless nepo baby father for something her ancestors stole from the guy who stole if from their father and killed their granddad.
The Silmarils belonged to Feanor and his heirs PERIOD.
If you want to fight me about light or whatever not being theirs, let me tell you this, if you pick a leaf off public property, can you not keep it?
Of course you can, the light of the trees was public property.

The first sons of Maedhros
Tumblr media
Excerpts of “Pre-Numenorean Elves and their Influences on the Blessed King Elros, Volume 3” by Idril of Dol Amroth, under the Stewardship of Thorondir.
“The descendants of Nelyafinwë “Maedhros” Fëanorion are a matter of great confusion and consternation to the histories of the First age. This confusion and consternation is only made worse by the fact that Maedhros claimed to have no children at all. Throughout his long life, we have no record of a wedding or dalliance whatsoever, as the Annals of Numenor, preserved by the blessed King Tar-Minyatur, list him as childless and wife-less. However, there have been many individuals who either claimed to be his children, or were rumored to be such. In this study, I intend to parse out the truth of these claims. Thirty two letters addressed to “Atya Nelyo” commonly translated as “Father Maedhros” have been uncovered in the archives of Rivendell, and I have gone through the great effort of having my assistants travel there to transcribe them.” pp. 14
“The earliest of these letters are somewhat of a curiosity, as they are attributed to elves whom by dominant account already had a father. The twin sons of Fëanor, Amrod and Amras who’s valinorian names are lost, only the shared epessë Ambarussa survive to us, were the earliest figures to claim Maedhros a their father. The common knowledge places the Ambarussa as the sixth and seventh sons of Feanor, but interestingly enough, these letters are not the only time that the Ambarussa have rejected this parentage. In an argument between Amras and Curufin, recorded by a scribe in the planning of the second kinslaying, Amrod is reported to have interjected, say “I recognize no father but the one who raised me. The madman who named me forteit his claim on the banks of Beleriand.” Other letters, in dealings with the elves of Ossiriand, have Amras signing as Amras Nelyion, likely in reference to Maedhros’s Quenyan name.” pp. 68
“I feel confident in saying that even if all speculation about the Ambarussa’s actual parentage is erroneous, they, and Caranthir to a lesser extent, conferred onto Maedhros the respect and deference owed to a father, rather than onto Feanor. This role as the patriarch of the house of Feanor, and a father-figure both to his siblings and a number of fostered thrall-children previous to the blessed king Elros and his brother Elrond, raises questions upon the exact conditions, and emotional situation surrounding this period of the king’s life." pp. 205
"Lord Elrond has declined to comment. Repeatedly.” pp. 209
Translation notes
“It’s quite cute, really, the way that they address each other. Lots of little nicknames, though I find it strange how few of these letters have been signed. One can only assume that it went without saying for the recipient.”
“The thirty second letter is nearly unreadable, by what seems to be water-damaged. It is addressed to Ambarussa, and likely authored by Maedhros himself, and thus unsent, since these were letters in Maedhros’s possession before his death. Tentatively dated to 539 Y.S. based on a smudged date at the top left of the page.”

I sometimes think about Fingolfin being the sole Uncle looking after all his nephews/niece/kids. Like, there’s 16 children. Before taking the Helcaraxë he no doubt promised Finarfin that he would take care of them. And I feel like once he found out about Fëanor, and especially saw the state of Maedhros, he silently promised his half brother he’d do his best to look after them too. Not that he wasn’t going to anyway.
But the burden that must have been, especially with how volatile and independant all these kids are. Oh they might be grown. But he’ll never see them as such. Even now he remembers Nelyo’s birth and how the baby would toddle after him, crying when it was time to leave. Curvo going through all his mechanical devices, Turukano right behind him as Fingolfin explained where each came from and listened to the children tell him all about the workings. Carnistir carefully running little hands over the embroidery of his cloak, Anairë laughing quietly and explaining the techniques that went into it. Ambarussa and all the chaos they caused, enough so that Fëanor and Nerdanel would dump them at his house for days at a time, usually a couple of brothers tagging along. Tyelko and Irissë wrestling in the mud, neither group of parents knowing what to do when they trudged in, a sticky trail behind them.
Findekáno’s duets with Makalaurë, the little musician quietly asking to play before his uncle and cousin to make sure it was perfect before he showed his father. Finno, Nelyo, and Findarato encouraging him with whoops, Fingolfin and Anairë applauding with wide smiles at the end as he was swarmed by his cousins and brother. The four’s ‘secret’ sleepovers whenever they were in the same place. Aikanaro and Angamaitë raiding his kitchens, Fingolfin joining in with a finger on his lips, helping steal pastries in the middle of the night. Artanis insisting she could join in whatever game his boys were playing, Ireth backing her with a scowl until they were let in. Little Orodreth and his own Arakano, friends since birth. The screams of delight whenever they saw each other.
Despite everything, or maybe because of everything, he doesn’t know. All of them are now his children. He couldn’t stop the Fëanorions from taking the most dangerous lands because he had no argument to give. He can’t stop Turno and Ingo from making hidden kingdoms and taking Ireth and Artaresto with them. He couldn’t save little Arakano. He can’t stop Artanis hiding in Doriath, although he’s grateful at least one of his kids is safe… even if that safety comes with disowning the rest of her family.
He can’t even protect little Tyelpë and Itarillë who never asked for any of this.
So when the Dagor Bragollach comes and he hears Aegnor and Angrod are definitely dead, Curufin, Celegorm, and Celebrimbor might as well be for the trail of bodies leading to Doriath and the mass murder at the Girdle, Maglor’s land has been burned so far beyond recognition, they can’t even *find* bodies, Turgon, Idril, and Aredhel he wouldn’t even know if they were killed, and he hasn’t heard from Finrod in months-
He can’t.
So he makes a last ditch attempt because maybe, just maybe, he can make their battle the slightest bit easier. Give his kids if any of them survive a weakness to exploit. A slight advantage to turn the tables…
A stab to the foot does the trick. Morgoth will be limping on that one for millennia.
He hopes his brothers can forgive him.

Ok I know that absolutely nothing in canon supports this but can you imagine how funny it would be if Bombadil was Maglor? The sheer number of crack fics that could be made on that idea, oh boy.

Fëanorions and fam go to the ren faire:
Maedhros: basic tunic and cloak with a hood. Leather boots and belt, a giant bag with a first aid kit, snacks and water for everyone.
Maglor: cliché jester outfit in clashing colours with extra long shoes and obnoxious bells on his hat and the point of his shoes. Carries a ukulele and plays earworms the whole time
Celegorm: Spirit Halloween Robin Hood costume (yes Nelyo, the leggings have to be that tight), Huan is dressed like the Sheriff of Nottingham in the Disney cartoon
Caranthir: painstakingly reproduced by hand a historical outfit from a Byzantine mosaic, sourcing the most historically accurate fabrics he could find. Yes, these are real pearls and gems. No, he won’t say how much the whole thing is worth nor how long it took him to make.
Curufin: borrowed old stuff from Maedhros. He put all his time and efforts making Celebrimbor’s garb
Amrod: front part of a dragon puppet
Amras: back part of a dragon puppet
Celebrimbor: asked his dad if he could dress like a knight and Curufin made him real plate armour and a sword out of aluminium so it’s not too heavy and roped Caranthir into making a tiny gambeson to wear under the armour
Fëanor: black t-shirt and jeans, spends all his time critiquing other people’s outfits
Nerdanel: Merida cosplay, having the time of her life beating the shit out of buff guys at strength games

Reasons Why You Should Be Careful About Each Fëanorion
*reasons gathered by Nolofinwëons and Arafinwëons, listed in order of most to least dangerous.
Nelyo/Maedhros: his smile can disarm anyone in an instant. No matter who you are, you WILL like him and you WILL develop an embarrassing crush everyone will tease you about. Treat with extreme caution: don’t look into his eyes, don’t notice how tall and strong he is, and definitely don’t be near to hear him laugh.
Tyelko/Celegorm: multiple reasons: one, he’s married to a vala. Two, he knows how to cook and if he will not feed you if you anger him. Three, he knows how to cook and he will poison you if you anger him. Four, Irissë likes him and they will team up to destroy you. Pretend his obnoxious behaviour doesn’t bother you and pray for your safety.
Laurë/Maglor: he can and will compose extremely embarrassing songs about you that will inevitably become number one hits because he’s famous. Even worse, he’s a minstrel, he will get into a fistfight with anyone and will do anything and everything with far more drama than required. Never insult his singing, but never ask him about his singing either.
Moryo/Caranthir: he may be the quiet one but if and when he opens his mouth he will show you the true meaning of “ripping you to shreds”. Don’t ever tell him he’s wrong, don’t ever try to debate him, it does not work.
Telvo & Pityo/Ambarussar: they know everyone’s business, even your business. You haven’t told anyone? Too bad, they know and they will blackmail you as necessary. Always separate a budget to buy their silence in case of emergencies, don’t ever snitch on them or you will have all their brothers on you.
Curvo/Curufin: mostly harmless, he can never be taken seriously after The Incident. Fire at will, but be careful of going too far, he is Tyelko’s favourite and Tyelko is far more dangerous.

Heraldic devices; Fëanorions
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maedhros: It was quite a challenge to design Maedhros' device. He is the heir and therefore it must show, but it also have to contain his personality. Which I always interpreted as more elegant and simple, neat. I wanted to incorporate the motif of rose. Since I connect Maedhros (and Nerdanel) to roses. I wanted to incorporate both the star of Fëanor and rose of Nerdanel.
I. the first picture shows the device of Maitimo as he used in Valinor
II. Maedhros after Fëanor's death, high king of the Noldor in Beleriand. Used briefly of course. I believe it was designed by Maglor and he used it during Maedhros captivity. Maglor was not thrilled to be a king and so I can imagine he would use Maedhros' a lot. It has 16 points, just as Finwë's heraldic device.
III. Maedhros after his abdication, lord of Himring.. a lot of point for a lord, right? Fingolfin had 8 as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I. Makalaurë, I remember holly leaves were mentioned in Return to Aman (written by @cycas ). Since then they stuck in my head as Maglor's heraldic device. Of course they are golden. Picking themes for Maglor was not hard at all. The red circles are supposed to signify the berries of holly.
II. Maglor after Maedhros' capture. I am not sure if he was crowned the high king of the Noldor or not. He is not listed anywhere as one, it seems to me he managed to escape the kingship. After Maedhros' rescue, the golden circle was reduced in size as to not touch the sides. Maglor used this device in Beleriand and never used the Valinorean one again.
Tumblr media
Celegorm, I was a little unsure what to choose, but it have not took me a long time to pick silver pine cone. I could not find any suitable animal-related theme, everything looked wuite ridiculous. I suppose even this look a little ridiculous. I was also unsure if I should go all the way and use the green or pick someting more inline with his siblings. However, Celegorm is odd one in the group really. He is Fëanor's third son and still deserve distinct design, not to be confused with any other. 4 points obviously, his device follows the conventional rules.
Tumblr media
Caranthir, oh Caranthir, I always have a problem with him. Caranthir is the one I do not know much about. I do not have headcanons about him, I just do not know. I could not pick anything personal for him and there are not informations about him. We know Celegorm, Amrod and Amras were hunters, Maedhros is the heir, Maglor is golden and musician, who is Caranthir? He is known for his temper, the dark Finwë.
I chose dark moody colours and many many stars. Instead of one central star he has 7 of them. His device is wuite formal. Of course the reason is that I did not know what to do with him. Yet what is the in-story reason? Maybe he used to have different device in Valinor, but began to use this one in Beleriand. He must have some very good reason to slap so many stars in. Maybe because he managed the trade, he used this neutral, formal and very "Fëanor's son" screaming device?
I think that his Valinorean device might have some moths. Moths are suitable dark and moody.
Tumblr media
Curufin, it was not hard to design. I wanted his device to be similar to Fëanor's, yet it shall not outshine Maedhros. Technically the device break rules as there are 8 sides touching, but Curufin was never a king. I think the yellow can be ignored as a "point." After all the same motif is featured in Maedhros'. I wanted to reapeat the Maedhros theme, because although he is the oldest, Curufin is most similar to his father.
For Curufin I had chosen gems as symbols. I think diamnods are very fitting for him. I had it on my mind the entire time from the beginning. The question was only where I am going to place them. I think the inspiration by Fëanor is also clear. I am not sure how Curufin felt about it later... he is always Atarinkë.
I have to do Celebrimbor too, but I think he had more than one device.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Amrod and Amras, I went a little wild with them. They are the youngest and therefore can have some fun. As such I chose more creative devices. Red maple for Amrod (because aesthetic, not really for the meaning) and oak for Amras. Oak is in many cultures regarded as the kingly tree. I think the devices are both similar enough and different enough to denote their relationship as twins while maintaining separate identities. Honestly Amros' device and Maglor's kingly Beleriand device are my favorites.
I would like to do Fingolfinwean and Finarfinwean devices as well, but I am not sure I'll have enough creativity in me.
