Thinking about Luisabel/Lumira during Surface Pressure and how Mirabel is so clearly Luisa's priority the whole time.

I'm just surprised Disney allowed any mentions of incest in their movie. It's common in latino telenovelas, so it's not out of place, but hearing a Disney character talk about it really shocked me, especially since it's on Disney+ (they butchered Deadpool to make him family friendly despite his movie being on Star, so them okay-ing incest mentions was surprising to me).
As I learn more about "100 Years of Solitude," which was likely the source material for Encanto, the more I believe that the aunt/nephew comment by Bruno was meant to be a nod to this novel. And Disney frequently has varying levels of subtle adult jokes in their movies, but I have heard from a couple different people (shipcest shippers and non-shipcest shippers alike) that this joke was shocking to see.
Part of what makes it so shocking, I think, is that it's not just an incest mention. It's a protagonist (the writers intended that all 12 Madrigals are main characters) admitting that he likes the forbidden incest love trope enough that he writes about it in his solitude. (He's literally writing for himself. Why would he use a trope he doesn't enjoy?) And yeah, I think it can be played off as something like, oh Bruno’s been isolated from human contact for 10 years, so he’s into weird taboo stuff because he’s crazy from the isolation haha, and it plays into the family weirdo idea. But he is still a likeable main character who immediately began rambling about his incest telenovela to the first person he saw in years. It’s weird and makes me think the writers probably didn’t think about the implications of this joke.

am absolutely dying to hear any thoughts about the madriga/ triplets nobody ships them enough and I'm lonely
You know, over the last couple weeks I have been thinking about them more and more. A word of warning, though. The way I ship them probably makes them my most toxic Madrigalcest ship.
And just to be clear, this is purely me running with headcanons for these three. I don't think my thoughts are heavily based in canon because I have not really thought about these three through an analytical lens. But I'd be happy to do that if that's what you're looking for. Just let me know.
Basically, I want their story to end in tragedy. I know I could have Bruno, Julieta, Pepa, and their husbands being in one happy polycule, but I am much more interested in exploring the evolution of the Madrigal triplets' relationship growing up followed by their inevitable separation as Pepa and Julieta begin dating.
The basic premise of my thoughts for them stem from my headcanon that Bruno and Pepa quickly became feared in the town because of their gifts, so they were ostracized and unable to make friends. I think Julieta would willingly ostracize herself in a move of solidarity with her siblings, so they would very much develop an "us against the world" mentality.
I think we can include a lot of classic sibcest tropes with these three. The ones I'm thinking of include mutual pining in the earlier years, followed by the three of them sharing all their "firsts" in the mid to older teen years. Not to mention trauma-bonding and codependency. I also really like the idea of them having really enmeshed personalities when they are younger. Just really terrible boundaries of self.
I kinda want to see them as the local town cryptids, where yes, their mother is essentially the head of the town and has a good deal of control over her children, but ultimately, the triplets are this weird group of supernatural children that the town absolutely does not and should not trust.
Within that, there are definitely some softer thoughts about them. They are deeply loyal to each other and care about each other, so there can be a lot of tenderness amongst the three of them, but it's all surrounded by some very unhealthy dynamics that I don't think would begin to clear up until the introduction of Felix and Augustin in their lives. And when Felix and Augustin enter the picture, that's where the real Bruno angst starts in my head because that's when everything falls apart, in his eyes, among the three of them.
Sorry for being vague about this. I'm still in the process of fleshing things out for them, but I would also love to hear your (and others') thoughts on them, even if they widely differ from mine!

antis: shipping mirabruno is disgusting incest in fiction is wrong and this is disney
encanto: is heavily inspired by an incestuous colombian book where incest isn’t frowned upon, mentions incest in the film itself
disney: has had numerous mentions of incest and one even being of a disney channel show having twins mention marrying each other but not as an incest gag but just as a sad pining moment (shake it up is the show)
like fr even aside from us knowing it’s just fiction and not condoning irl incest, it’s not like we pulled this outta nowhere tbh lmfao
Went to look up what you were talking about from Shake it Up. Very interesting and full of sibcest potential. For those not familiar, the twin brother, Gunther, offered to take his sister, Tinka, on a date, and she declined because it would not be a "real" date. And apparently, Gunther looked very disappointed/upset when she also pointed out they would not be getting married.
I also find it fascinating when some antis are able to understand that Bruno writing an incest plot does not necessarily mean he condones real life incest, and yet they cannot wrap their heads around the fact that that can apply to real actual people interested in problematic tropes, like incest.

Hey! So I’ve recently started getting into Madrigalcest and honestly I think I just like any and all ships pertaining to Mirabel.
So I’m incredibly thankful for you and your blog filled with more Bruno/Mirabel than one girl could ever dream of!
But, I have to ask, do you have any romantic headcanons for some ships with Mirabel and other characters? Maybe Camilo or Isabella or Pepa?
No pressure(ha) but I’m just looking for someone to brainrot with.
Hello! Yes, this accidentally became a Brumira blog, but I enjoy most Madrigalcest pairings. And I'm with you there; I really enjoy most ships that include Mirabel. She had great chemistry with a majority of the characters in the film, so it's just easy to ship her.
I love the popular Mirabel ships, like Camimira and Isamira, but I am also a huge fan of Luisabel (Luisa x Mirabel). Right now, they're kinda like the blorbo rotating in my mind, so I don't have a lot of fleshed out thoughts about them, but I have some quasi-romantic thoughts:
I think Mirabel would start embroidering and making clothes for Luisa that represent her personality a little better. I'm thinking about the fact that Luisa apparently loves plush animals. I also think Luisa's clothing in the film represents how she is trying to fit within the role/archetype she was assigned because of her gift. I think after the film, part of developing self-care practices, Luisa would want clothing that fit her better, so Mirabel would make her things that fit her style. I'm thinking embroidered puppies, unicorns, and pastels specifically.
I think Mirabel would also try to be the big spoon as often as she can because Luisa likes being the little spoon but is sometimes afraid to ask. They're both massive cuddlers so it works out.
They do each other's hair and even makeup when the occasion arises.
In fact, I think both Luisa and Mirabel are acts of service people, so they would be very compatible, and Luisa would finally have someone attuned to her needs and help her stand up for herself. And Mirabel would have someone who wants to take care of her.
And if you like OT3s, I am also very into Isabela/Luisa/Mirabel (tagging them as Madrigal Sisters on my blog currently) and Julieta/Pepa/Bruno (tagging them as Madrigal Triplets currently).
For the Madrigal Sisters, I have some domestic, fluffier thoughts relating to the headcanon that they eventually move away from Casita and live together on a farm.
For the Madrigal Triplets, my thoughts about them are much more angst-driven, focusing on their bonding, shared trauma,* and exploring what happened to their codependency when Augustín and Félix entered the picture (my thoughts are very Bruno-centric).
So definitely chat with me about any of the ships listed and mentioned in this post. The Madrigalcest brainrot persists.

*edited to fix incorrect use of term trauma bond

Maybe ship, maybe platonic but once Luisa is able to open up about feeling overworked, Isabella likes to take her out for fun nights on the town so they could just relax and hang out, maybe get spa treatments and manicures (anachronism or modern AU? idk but manicures is like THE ultimate girl bonding activity according to TV so lmao). They could just cut loose and Luisa doesn't have always be working and Isa doesn't have to always be perfect. Sometimes they'll bring along Mirabel or Dolores too (and at least once Camillo on accident while was posing as one of them), but mostly it's just the two of them.
Someone might still ask a favor of Luisa and she'll start to do it because she's so used to it but then Isa will go "ACTUALLY this is her day off, I think you can manage it by yourself :) ".
Yes! Luisa deserves all the spa days she wants! If you don't want a Modern AU, maybe there is a naturally occurring hot spring within or nearby the Encanto that they can go to. Oh! Or like in the concept art, they could go to Isabela's garden. Regardless, yes, Isabela would definitely make Luisa take days off and treat her to something nice.
What works so well about Luisa and Isabela (ship or not) is that Isabela would absolutely help Luisa maintain healthy work/life boundaries. As the older sister, Isabela is probably especially protective over Luisa and wants to make sure she takes care of herself.
