Just rewatched Amadeus for the first time since college. It was an old movie when I first saw it. Fuck, it’s still one of the best I’ve ever seen. I’ll never get over F. Murray Abraham’s performance as Salieri. His microexpressions while those snippets of Mozart’s music are playing fucking destroy me. He has hundreds of them. Weirdly, IWTV is responsible for this rewatch due to Assad Zaman’s mastery of microexpressions—his use of them kept reminding me of something, I couldn’t put my finger on it, and then I saw today on Twitter that it’s the 40th anniversary of Amadeus, and I was like…ohhh. It’s the guy who played Salieri. He did that shit. Okay, that’s why I need to rewatch, got it. My thoughts fishbowl-circle the weirdest resonances sometimes. Men who commit heinous emotional crimes with their captivating faces, ugh.

i definitely make jokes about daniel being a “cokewhore” on occasion but i feel like some of y’all didn’t grok that he was actually for real real prostituting himself for drugs and it’s kind of an import detail about his character that’s been alluded to throughout the show.

idk i’ve just been seeing a lot of posts about daniel’s sexuality lately and like. in addition to Older Queer Male Repression Classic Flavor, it kinda thunks your thinker that the time when Daniel was most sexually involved with men he was also in a really terrible place mentally and physically, and that sexuality was intrinsically related to his drug use and poverty, and now he does not openly acknowledge his obvious hOmOpHiLe status huh?
