like i should not have to say in the notes of my fics on ao3 'this is a gen fic, it is clearly marked as a gen fic, it is not meant to be shippy, please respect that' when the fic is already clearly marked as gen and with tags indicating the dynamics are not romantic/sexual.

and then it still doesn't work. people still do this shit, no matter how loudly or clearly people say that on their fics. nobody can make you read and interpret a fic a certain way but what is it gonna take for you to understand other people's gen fics are not about your ship and you absolutely should not be saying things about your ship to the author based on their gen fic. most of fandom is already about you and what you're interested in can you not be happy with that and leave me and my fics and every other gen fic out there the hell alone.

I don’t deserve to be coddled, they bite their tongue against answering, curling into a smaller ball where they sit with their shoulder pressed against Puck’s, their knees to their chest. It isn’t fair that he has to comfort them when they were the one who lied. They made the choice to hide it all from him, manipulate him. All in a futile, foolish attempt to erase their past, and themselves along with it. It was always their fault. 

“I failed you in so many ways, Puck,” they respond quietly, looking at their hands as they worry and pick at the same hole in their cloak that they mended just the night before.

It’s hard to talk so openly and honestly for a number of reasons. One of them being that Puck and Iago, as close as they’ve always been, as important as they are to each other, stopped talking a long time ago. Even before the Bhaal temple, so much was left unspoken and so much was never truly addressed. They were stuck with a horrible, rotten life and only had one person in the world to turn to - and they often failed to do even that, mistaking codependency and obsession for support. 

Now, they’re finally trying. Iago insists upon it, as difficult as it is. They have to be better.  

“I was not a good sibling,” they continue, stating it like a fact. It is a fact, in Iago’s eyes. Puck won’t ever be able to remember all the ways they let him down. He won’t remember playing lanceboard or wearing matching bows as kids, either. 

A hole rips beneath their shaking fingers and they start to wind a thread around their pinkie. 

“I shouldn’t have lied. I know that’s no way to fix that, but…” they have to add before they go on, their thoughts choppy and disjointed as they chip at the truth. They’ll never be able to apologize enough for what they did to him, but it must be said anyway. 

“But I was scared that you wouldn’t want me as I was,” their voice has devolved into a mumble, losing steam quickly as the lump in their throat grows. “I thought that I would be better left forgotten. Sometimes I still do. Maybe if you remembered what I was like -” they’re already shaking their head as they interrupt themselves.

“No. You wouldn’t agree, you’ve always been patient with me. Kind. But the truth is, you deserve a better sibling than what I was for you.” That shouldn't have been your choice to make, Iago.

Listen. I was a Harry Potter kid. I read those books over and over again for probably a decade. I get it, okay? But any and all virtues that people ascribe to them are true of countless other children's book series. Many of which are less intensely bigoted. Obviously, the fact that Harry Potter became so insanely popular is indicative of something in them, whether that be engaging characters, entertaining worldbuilding, whatever, so I won't say that they're totally bad with no redeeming qualities. But they simply aren't that unique! Stop saying that they're groundbreaking or complex for whatever reason! They aren't! And like, if you have the books and want to keep rereading them or whatever I'm not gonna tell you to stop, you aren't hurting anyone. But I am begging people to recognize that the reason they like them is nostalgia, and that they are not the fucking holy grail of fantasy or children's writing. You want kids books which tackle the way adults can be wrong and hurtful and ignorant? Read A Series of Unfortunate Events. You want the escapism of being whisked off to an extraordinary world underneath this one? Read Percy Jackson. You want magical boarding school? Read A Wizard of Earthsea. There are so many other series to choose from stop fucking praising JKR her books aren't that impressive

Things like stage doors and cons that are focused around meeting actors are so alien as a concept to me because as somebody who spends a lot of my personal and professional life with actors there is nothing I want to do less than seek out actors when they are fresh off the pique of their ego trip lmao.

I mean it genuinely when I say some of my best friends are actors, but I can't think of anything I enjoy less than spending time with them in that space when they are literally buzzing off themselves

See, I was watching Extra-Ordinary You, and I wasn't sold on Lee Jae Wook's acting. Not that I didn't think he was doing a good job of being the reddest flag ever, because wow he was, but I wasn't like, blown away. Probably because for the vast majority of the show Baek Kyung doesn't show a great deal of variety in his facial expressions. Until.

Until.

At the end of Episode 28, when he removes Dan Oh's oxygen mask. The face journey that happened. The way he fell apart as he resolved to do something horrible, and then the devastation as he processed the realization that this isn't the first time he's killed her. That he really is a monster.

I saw his face during that scene and went, literally, "well shit now I have to watch Alchemy of Souls, don't I"

So stay tuned for that I guess. Gosh Dangit.

I bought and read the novelisation of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (the book based on the movie based on the comic book based on classic Victorian literature) and it’s facinating to see the difference between movie Jeykll and this version of Jeykll. people in the fandom joke about him being kind of wet and pathethic in the film, which is definitely an exageration, but in the novelisation... it’s a tad more accurate.

Shaking with weakness and personal misery, the scrawny figure arose, blinking his nervous, saucer-wide eyes. He was a slight man who easily slipped his entire hand out of Hyde’s wrist shackles, leaving the torn chains on the floor. His ashen face reflected his ordeal. His large Adam’s apple bobbed up and down as he gulped.

“Henry Jeykll, at your service. And I would very much like to earn my pardon and return to London.” He swallowed hard. “May I have a glass of water, please?”

“Liar. I’m a good man.” Jekyell whimpered.

Jeykll blinked his saucerlike eyes, then swallowed hard in his scrawny throat.

“I’m going inside there.” Jeykll’s voice was a mere squeak amid the choatic noise.

I wish I could make gifs because I would love to have a side-by-side comparison between this description and Jason Flyming’s actual performance.

Then his body began to change. Bones lenghened and thickened, muscles swelled and bulged. [...] He convulsed and spasmed, clamping his lips shut to hold in the air. Every time he suffered through this, the transformation brought him more and more agony.

Finally, Jekyll could not help himself. He screamed underwater, but let out only a mouthful of bubbles as his back arched and limps thrashed. His eyes began to bleed.

not actually connected to the ‘wet and pathetic’ thing, I just really like how the book described the transformation here. it really leans hard into the body horror on top of the horror of drowning.

Skittish Jekyll slipped on the slick coating of fresh frozen ice that covered the armored upper deck, but Quartermain caught him.

Someone had way too much fun with alliteration here.

[Skinner] looked like a frozen corspe, but at least he had stopped shivering, unlike Henry Jekyll.

‘Skinner might look like a zombie but at least he isn’t shivering like a loser.’

“Look out!” Jeykll cried in a thin squeak. He shoved Nemo aside just before the icicle spike spintered into chips on the chimney floor.

“I thank you. I would have been killed.”

Jeykll blinked, then smiled. “I’m glad that... I can be useful, too.”
