To any fellow followers of Christ out there, I don’t know if things have gotten as tough for you as they have for me, in regards to fighting against the enemy, but I think we could use some encouragement.

Do not give up, do not give in. God promises to fight for us. We know who wins in the end, we will have victory. If God is for us, who can be against us.

Allow me to share some individuals and groups who inspire me, as a Christian.

Remember that we are not fighting against flesh and blood. Our fellow man is not our enemy. We know well who our enemy is, and we should show everyone Christ’s love, they are just as deserving of it. Treat people like Jesus died for them. Because He did.

Keep praising, keep serving, keep worshipping, keep loving. To quote a very good friend of mine, joy rebukes the enemy. Praise through the storm. I love you all, saved and unsaved alike, and so does Jesus.

PSALMS S.O.A.P. ~ PSALM 30

Wednesday, 8/30/23

SCRIPTURE:

I will extol You, O Lord, for You have lifted me up,  And have not let my enemies rejoice over me.  O Lord my God,  I cried to You for help, and You healed me.  Psalm 30:1-2

OBSERVATION:

Extol - praise enthusiastically, lift up, raise...

He has "lifted me up..." - through Jesus and His being raised...

He has kept me from the enemy's rejoicing at my stumbling and failures...

He heard my cry for help...

He healed me from my sin... 

APPLICATION:

(adding verses 4, 12)

Extol Him...

Sing praise to the Lord, you His godly ones, 

And give thanks to His holy name. For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for a lifetime

Sing praise to Him and do not be silent.

Give thanks to Him forever.

PRAYER:

Favoring Father - I lift up, I raise, and give thanks to Your Holy Name, singing Your praises for Your forgiveness of my selfishness and sinfulness, through Your Son Jesus, and ask for Your Holy Spirit to guide and direct my words and actions this morning and throughout the day... In Jesus's Name, Father, and for Your glory in all things...

Thankfully yours - in Him...

One of the things I love about Mistborn is that Ruin isn’t inherently evil, he’s just a guy, who’s also a force of nature. And the protagonists don’t beat him by being inherently good; they beat him by targeting the *guy* instead of the darkness and explosions and whatever else. Ati is barely even a person by then, thoroughly possessed and 2000 years imprisoned, but they still manage to find that one weakness, his one insecurity that has made Ruin’s understanding of humanity incomplete, and exploit the hell out of it.

Of course Ati doesn’t understand trust. His entire self was destroyed by a power he chose to accept, and not too long thereafter, his co-parent and (presumably) close friend betrays him out of nowhere, and imprisons him completely alone. Ruin isn’t fundamentally stupid when it comes to good people… he just can’t bring Ati to believe that Elend would let Vin go, days before the end of the world, without her explaining what she was going to do.

(Also. Ati. Absolute cinnamon roll. So excited to LOVE this guy in Dragonsteel in 40 years. What kind of powerhouse-level sweetheart is hit with the full entire force of God’s smiting obsession, has most of their personality and soul wiped away, and undergoes an awful betrayal like that… and still, after all that, can make the Force of Primordial Destruction learn thermodynamics?)

It's just fascinating to me the way Vex's trauma, first from Syldor and Syngorn and then from the poachers who kidnapped her, is so relatively mundane and yet so resonant. Her and Vax's only real recourse from the abuse and racism they suffered was to leave, but living on their own meant they were also perfect targets. Statistically it's not your average suburban kid gettin snatched in a parking lot that makes up most kidnapping or trafficking victims; it's the kids who've been tossed around the system, who have slipped through the cracks in some way, who are already vulnerable—the people who no one will miss.

And Vex freeing herself from the poachers still gave her trauma, just a different kind of trauma than she'd have had if she'd actually been trafficked. Leaving Syngorn meant freedom from its cruelty, but it also meant being at the mercy of the rest of the world, and it meant a final admission to herself that no matter how hard she worked she would never get the acceptance and the home she longed for. It's an experience that's unfortunately all-too-common among so many oppressed and marginalized peoples. She spent so much time in situations where there was no way for her to win or get out unscathed, and it's no wonder she closed herself off from the world.
