So a lot of what I said is just speculation of what might happen. It's hard to say completely because there haven't been any major celebrities to come out as lesbian, specifically. Also, the petitions to the blue house are a fairly recent thing, established by the previous president to allow the public to communicate directly with the government. But not all petitions are "serious." I think one time, EXO and BTS fans were feuding, and they filed petitions against each other to the Blue House haha.

I think like in most other countries, there are a good amount of liberals who are absolutely accepting. It's just that the people who don't like homosexuality will be the loudest. And I believe that while same-sex partners have rights, you still cannot officially marry in Korea.

This is an anecdote but I have a family member who's a high school teacher in Korea. They asked me for American shows they could show their students so they could build their conversational skills. When I brought up Modern Family, they were hesitant because even if homosexuality isn't illegal and more people are accepting of it nowadays, they knew that there would be complaints about a gay relationship being shown to students.

Indian Horse, Richard Wagamese - This book is not fucking around. Powerful and -fully melancholic and poignant.

Discworld (yes all 7 I've read), Terry Pratchett - @suspicious-bovine was right, I shoulda read this shit a decade ago. Masterful fantasy.

Giovanni's Room, James Baldwin - Don't look at me. Don't talk to me. This book took me a week to read because of how many times I spent ten minutes staring at the page + having a crisis.

11. How do they cope with confusion (seek clarification, pretend they understand, etc)?

omen is very often confused, and generally prioritizes different ways of handling it depending on the situation. there's a whole swathe of customs and social norms and references that are impenetrable to xem, and xe will just leave those as mysteries to be observed but not waded into. there's simply too many of them to bother with. if something is actively unfolding and xe doesn't understand what's going on or why it's happening, the best thing to do is sit back and observe

it's conversations that get tricky, and xe will pursue clarification to an exhausting level sometimes (yet another reason xe wouldn't do well under the vanguard. what do you mean you don't want your strike setup questioned until xe can accept all the reasoning for it). mostly xe wants to get at why something is being said to xem specifically - what is the relevance, why is this a part of the conversation. as soon as xe grasps a connection, xe backs off

32.  Do they have a go-to story in conversation? Or a joke? 

not so much a story (xe isn't a story-teller and relates things a little too abruptly to be entertaining, though boon can and will prompt xem into relaying xyr experiences sometimes if they think it's valuable or interesting) but Many, Many Anecdotes about anything local xe has been observing. usually these are ranked by what xe has most recently been studying, proximity to their current location, and the season, and alien flora and fauna are of course also counted

not that most people want to hear about xyr latest findings on hive borer worm patterns when left unattended in the cosmodrome but -

J) Did you have to manipulate or exclude canon factors to allow them to create their character?

I am excluding every oc from the canon plot at all times, to start with

I can't remember if I'd decided on omen being an AI before felwinter was revealed, but even before I'd conceptualized that, I definitely thought of xem with an emphasis on not acting like a typical exo. not needing to move or even idly fidget for very long times, eating and sleeping far less than usual. admittedly I don't even have a good reason for why omen sleeps at all, so perhaps it is some sort of hard-coded body requirement even without the threat of DER looming, or helping cycle all xyr systems and prevent sensory overloads...?

of course I am also stretching the seed of silver wings to fit my cool ideas, even if so much of it is not written out yet outside of tumblr and discord posts

this momentous yet transient plot object can fit so much weird shit in it!!!

but I didn't have to really bend history or canon events given how loose the timeline is. saying ishtar experimented with AI exos and having omen as an early dark age risen easily slots in

Private Matters by maokun

Changing up the structure a bit for a few reasons: this fic is ongoing, updating every week, so this episode would sort of be like a teaser ish? to have readers be extra excited for the fic and get to take a peak into the author’s beautiful mind, one that birthed this fic.

In between, we will have some questions for maokun, who will grace us with her response.

We thank maokun for participating in this podcast, thank you mao, we love your writings and thank you for saying yes to being part of this podcast.

Now for listeners who are not aware, maokun started off as a reader, and now, a writer. Maokun’s first fic was Morning Sickness back in 2014. And from 2014 to today, maokun has authored about 35 fics and counting. A bit more on maokun before we get the episode going proper, maokun has been an EXO-L since 2012, mama era, that's about 12 years. The pull factor that got her into the fandom was Jongin’s debut teaser, and eventually Kyungsoo. They were also the reason maokun got pulled into the ficdom as well. 

We are all following the beloved maokun’s latest abo fic, Private Matters. And to have it with a little more pizzazz, it is royalty au. 

Already just by looking at the AU, it is quite attractive: omega prince kyungsoo and president's son alpha jongin.

Private Matters by maokun, is predicted to have about 20 chapters, and we are currently in the 8 chapter mark. And as of chapter 8 there are about 35k words. We will definitely see the word count go up as the fic updates.

The summary from the fic is as follows: The law states only an alpha could sit on the throne; omega Prince Kyungsoo is left with no choice but to wed one and he chooses the president’s son, Kim Jongin. 

Well well well, we see maokun setting up the context of the fic by showing us the meeting with the palace secretaries and advisors, followed by Junmyeon presenting alphas to Kyungsoo. And to no surprise Kyungsoo is against all of them until we meet Jongin… Why does Prince Kyungsoo choose the president’s son Jongin? Why is Jongin adamant on saying no? and that, dear listeners, is how their story begins.

The story unfolds in a slow burn manner. And seeing that it has been tagged as childhood trauma, i can sort of see hints of it because there are certain parts in the eight chapters that are already out.

In chapter two for example, when both readers and Kyungsoo are first introduced to Jongin, President Kim shares that this is not the first time the two meet. It is a shocking fact for Kyungsoo, and it makes readers curious as to why Kyungsoo has no recollection of those moments with Jongin. 

In addition to that as well, we have President Kim on some occasions apologising to Kyungsoo and saying things like: “Anytime, Prince Kyungsoo. It will be my pleasure to be of any help to you. Though, I’m years late.” and even Junmyeon cautioning Kyungsoo when he speaks to the president.

Now from this section onwards we have some comments and questions and answers for and by maokun.

Talking about childhood, there is a request from an anon in maokun’s curious cat if you would mind adding little anecdotes of KaiSoo's childhood, maybe as a bonus chapter. Those bits and pieces of how baby Soo used to cling to Jongin hyung, the constellation mapping and diaper change.

Maokun’s response was that she most definitely has those in the story plot. She has yet to reveal their childhood past. And there is a lot to tell! Maokun plans this to be included in bits, a little bit of here and there when Kyungsoo is digging into his past. And she will probably add a bonus chapter when the fic is completed.

Trusting the writer’s choice, we will definitely see how it all comes together eventually. And we pause here for a question for maokun: We see many hints of Kyungsoo’s childhood trauma already in the first few chapters, could that be the reason behind why Kyungsoo’s personality can be quite unpleasant to the people around him?

Maokun replied that yes, Kyungsoo’s personality is intertwined with his past and childhood trauma. Readers may have noticed that he doesn’t trust anyone and believes that no one is on his side from the very first chapter. Hence, explaining his hostility towards everyone and how he always has his guard up. But without him realising it, he starts to open himself up to Jongin, thinking that for the first time, thankfully for kaisooists, he actually feels safe with Jongin.

Following the same train of thought, another tag I am excited to see unfold is the Character Development tag. Kyungsoo can be quite bratty and I hope slowly we will get to see pleasant exchanges between the couple because… as much as I love bratty soo I want to see the characters in love. I know we will get there, so we are patient and we trust in the author’s writing choice.

Touching a bit on the relationships and how the characters intermingle with each other:

Kyungsoo and his subordinates, Junmyeon and Baekhyun as the secretaries and Chanyeol the bodyguard. Where we are now, these relationships are very… well the prince asks and is delivered? But there are boundaries thankfully, especially when Junmyeon is involved I think mainly because he is one who is able to see the bigger picture of how people are connected to one another and works in the prince’s best interest, whether Kyungsoo sees it or not.

I think another interesting relationship dynamic explored would be between Kyungsoo and Sehun. And the thing is, Sehun is very pleasant, treats Kyungsoo respectfully but also happens to be pleasantly unaware of Kyungsoo’s true intent, which is to wed Jongin.

But im also weary of Sehun’s and Jongin’s affection to one another…but after the last two chapters, chapter seven and eight, i am kind of relieved that it seems that Jongin just likes Sehun platonically. 

Now, Kyungsoo’s and Jongin’s relationship starts off by them meeting in an opening ceremony. Jongin teases Kyungsoo to no end. We next see Jongin in the palace where all the other alphas are and that is the start of their… I guess you could say this was their enemies origin story… it gets quite tense as well, their arguments are a bit unpleasant to watch at first then hopefully as the fic continues, I trust in maokun that it will be better.

And the latest chapter, oh my kaisoo! The whole chapter i had my mouth open and giggling and gosh the build up from when that bastard Myungsoo is in the scene and fucking dares to put his palm on Kyungsoo’s cheek, to that abrupt confession from Jongin with his big reveal… 

There are so many tension points from his relationships with Junmyeon to Sehun to Myungsoo and to Jongin of course, so many layers to think about… now my question to our dear maokun is, without giving too much of the plot away, what is the next cause of action? Could you give us a snippet of who will be involved in the next conflict?

Maokun tells us to expect political conflicts, primarily between President Kim and The Royal Family while gradually revealing their past. The conflicts will revolve around convincing the people and stakeholders that Kyungsoo and Jongin’s marriage is not political, which in fact it is. Other than the conflicts, you can definitely look forward to Kyungsoo and Jongin putting up a good show for the cameras! And oh well, catching feelings and all that.

Oh myyy! That would be so dramatic! I love maokun’s mind, i really admire how maokun is able to give so many little bits of tension, then slowly string them together. From the beginning till where we are now, we don’t really see President Kim as much as… Jongin, for example, so it will definitely be interesting and dramatic and all things intriguing to see how that will unfold.

Now i asked maokun, how close are we into getting to the climax of the story? I can sense that we are somewhere near it. 

And dear listeners, I was pleasantly surprised to find that we readers are most definitely not anywhere near the climax. There is still a lot to build to reach the climax and maokun believes that it will exceed 20 chapters.

Smelling the angst during the build up oh my this is going to be legendary. Following up with this I have another question: now from chapter 8 onwards, does it get better in terms of the characters liking one another? or does it get more complicated and tension filled as we go along? Because there are several layers of the characters we still need to see to fill in the plot to get the full picture, several tags that have yet to fully pop out like: childhood trauma and character development. So i guess to rephrase the question to maokun: are we in the middle of the conflict, or is this just the beginning?

Maokun responded that it can go both ways depending on the stage of their relationship. We have passed the reuniting with your childhood friend stage, making him my husband and now we’re entering the stage of getting to know him. They will start to warm up to each other, but of course the bantering won’t end. It’s too good to pass! In chapter 8, Kyungsoo saw pictures of Jongin and him when they were children which will drive him to dig into his past which he doesn’t have recollection of. And this will lead to, well, more conflicts.

Okay last question for the day before we reach the final comments, now,  we are able to see the expressions clearly in kaisoo because maokun’s writing is very vivid and of course, this being fanfiction,  it also has taken reference from the actual real lives of kaisoo as KAI Jongin and D.O. Kyungsoo of EXO. So my last question here is:  which moments of kaisoo in reality did you take references from?

There are only two moments maokun took references from.  First moment was when Jongin’s dogs crowded Kyungsoo’s at the lake which was based on the actual moment when Kyungsoo met Jongin’s dogs at COEX. And of course the second moment is this: 

“Kim Jongin, Prince Kyungsoo is going to melt” was from the fancam where the fan shouted PLAY AUDIO “he’s going to melt”. Of course, we fans find that Jongin was staring at Kyungsoo.

Aw what sweet moments!

Any final comments you want to give us readers and listeners, maybe something to look out for as you slowly unravel their characters, and their bond of love and how they will eventually rule the kingdom?

Maokun started this fic with monarchy in mind. The concept of monarchy is understood and accepted differently by everyone. We heard of how the monarchy ended, how it is still thriving and celebrated, and how people are fighting to put an end to it. But maokun will not get into the specifics in this fic, just grazing the surface. As to not get too political! Now that Kyungsoo and Jongin will officially step into the life as a married couple, the king and queen, you’ll see how much and far it will affect both of them, as they juggle between rulers and husbands, which actually, spoiler, what Jongin fears the most.

might be cherry picky or way too anecdotal but i think i finally cracked the code on one of the ways kpop mvs haave changed. it isn’t really the over saturation or a more fast paste which i thought it previously, though that is also present. I think narrative has completely disappeared from MVs. It’s been replaced by at most a “concept.” kpop has always been mostly empty visuals, but older videos had at least something they tried to express. EXO’s love me right is incrompehensive, but it’s very clearly narrating a ”lost boys�� aesthetic part in the longer form exo suoerpowered-alien-beings-or-smth story. same thing BTS used at the same time with INU and Run. Excluding the fact that bts went on to write and actual story about the underlying lore in their MVs, these videos differ from modern kpop vids by how you could write a story from them. Nowadays I’ve been looking at NCT 127 and Stray kids MVs which clearly hold no story. the visuals have a very strong and clear “concept” but there is no narrative to be squeezed from the content, it is purely just , well just exactly what is being presented. which is not a bad thing at all just and interesting change! kpop is interesting as fuck because it’s more constricted so the continuum every piece of it exists in is way easier to analyze / recognize

It has for a long while been very clear we’re not going to get actual literal story MVs anymore, things like 2ne1′s Come back home, Monsta X’s All in or Big bang’s Haru Haru, but it’s interesting to see how kpop’s movement away from strictly teenage demographic has made writing a visual story unfitting for an MV.

Advice for ask blogs starting up?

You’re asking for advice~? I’m both flattered and honored to be able to get this question. I’ve decided to answer and post today for Mun-day. This post will be a bit long as I like to give thorough advice, or at least offer insight into what I’ve done, but I’ll do my best to break text up into palatable sections and keep topics relevant. 💜

I’ll be going over:

how to set up your core values and image

how to interact with blogs and keep audience awareness

how to keep your passion alive.

If you’re interested and in for a long read with some mun anecdotes, feel free to continue below!

♫ Core Values and Image ♫

When you’re starting up, I really encourage you to have three things in mind to make sure you cultivate a proper image and platform for your blog: Content Focus, Presentation and Goals. These are things you don’t want changing too much throughout your blog’s runtime, as they should be your “Core Values”. In other words, these are the special traits that will differentiate your blog from others out there. I’ll discuss each of my big three below, but don’t be surprised if they blend in together, as that should be the point and how they function.

♪ |---- Content Focus

This is probably one of the most essential parts of a blog and truly what makes you the most unique, along with Presentation. Find out what part of a character/muses’ personality you’d like to focus on the most. 

For me, this was a focus on Ji-Woon (and Yun-Jin) with a large nod to Korean culture and K-pop music, putting them near the forefront. This is because I grew up learning the culture through popular media and was confident in how to honor it, or even have a desire to learn more of it.

Personal Mun Ramblings, will be referred to in Goals but not mandatory to read) It was so special once I learned my favorite game and scene for so long was bringing another part of life that I enjoyed. I was a year 2 player of DBD since I play on console, and I’d gotten DBD the same year of Console’s release date; roughly a few months before Nightmare on Elm Street DLC was announced. So to me, this was a blending of fandoms/cultures that made me excited and brought me back into the DBD scene after a small hiatus following other passions, because now two of my passions were mixing. To preface, I’d been a fan of K-culture: Watching K-dramas and even being a generation one/two K-pop fan; around since BoA, BigBang, Girls Generation etc.’s relevancy along with even seeing EXO and BTS’ debuts (Roughly a fan since 2000s, in my pre-teens/teens). 

I wanted to cultivate and pay homage to that for my blog. Ultimately, that’s why I chose to have the name Idol-Trickster. Because I wanted my characterization of him to be immersed as an idol in k-culture. After all, that’s what differentiated him in the Dead By Daylight roster, so I wanted to reflect it. ( semi-relevant: I was a fan of Japanese-drama/pop so I knew the difference and similarities between the scenes. I’m still learning and differentiating between cultures though, and enjoy it quite a bit.)

ANYWAY, back to how to apply this advice- It’s good to look at the blog scene and see what’s out there. Understanding other personifications and know where you want to go with your own ‘version’. In Trickster’s case, maybe someone would want to play up in his narcissism a bit more, or maybe the fact that he’s a bit insane, or even making him completely evil and kill obsessed. This depends on how you want to portray and spice up the character to your liking and will ultimately give you an advantage on your blog.

Granted, I was one of the first blog runners for this character, but even then I had a solid game plan on what I wanted my focus to be. I wanted Trickster to be charming. An Idol (denounced or not in lore with his final ‘real-world’ killing). I wanted him to try to hold onto that small bit of humanity and people pleasing, despite his twisting and figuring out what that meant for him. It made for an interesting ‘plot point’ in my mind, and I figured others would like to see that.

♦ |---- Presentation 

Now that you got your ideas in mind...How are you going to present them? Think of the big picture first, since it’s the easiest and most generalized. I always start out with a general theme. Like I said above, I played on Korean/Idol culture a lot. Which meant looking through blogs for existing idols or groups/band fan pages. Fun fact, the blog theme I use for Idol-Trickster was based on a One Direction fan-blog template. (Not K-pop but definitely ‘boy group sensationalists’) My tumblr theme even has header text sections like this (it made me solidify my choice):

Which reminds me a lot of BTS’ 

As funny as it sounds, I even use Cookie Run font for Hangul/Korean text (Popular mobile game developed in South Korea) along with Manga/Manwha  text.

This is because I knew I wanted to pay homage to K-culture from text to even in my art style choices. I enjoyed reading manhwas and webtoons, and noticed webtoons are arguably been the biggest trend in Korea. (Like what Manga is to Japan, comic books to America etc.). In fact, I even remember my first webtoon when the platform was just starting (I feel so old reminiscing on these things). I knew if I could bring a bit of that in my posts, I’d be happy and would add a layer of ‘immersion’ to fans. Granted, I knew it wouldn’t be possible to go all out webtoon style for every ask, but I did want at least an art style that looked like it could fit in or was heavily inspired by them, even if I only did big comic pieces on occasion.

All of this to say, starting out big can help focus on the aesthetic and presentation. It brings interest. It makes everything feel developed and keep you closer to your Focus. If you want a scary blog, go for scary themes, etc.

Now of course, you don’t have to change your whole art style or be particular in your font choices. Those were just BIG PICTURE things to separate from the others. 

You should also focus on how you’ll make your character act. What is their aesthetic. How are they going to speak to readers or others visually. Will they voice all their thoughts and talk out loud? Do you want them to stay quiet on certain topics and not monologue those? Full sentences or Short curt ones? Large vocabulary or limited? These are all important to try and keep consistency in your characterization. Make sure you have an understanding of your character and how to present them. (This will get explained more in the Next big section “Interaction and Audience Awareness”)

☆ |---- Goals

Finally and the last of the big three, one of the most crucial elements to have that ties in everything else above is your goals for the blog. Having something you want to achieve or strive for. It’s okay to have some change or add more as time goes on, but they should always stay fairly solid. I can’t tell you what exactly these should be, other than they should fit your interests, or how you wish people looked at a character.

Sharing my goals: I had major goals seeing how the fandom handled the release of Trickster, and k-pop culture/fans in general. 

I firstly wanted to cultivate a space safe for k-pop enthusiasts. A welcoming introduction to people either wanting to get into k-pop previously in the dbd fandom, or vice versa of new faces to the game/scene.  > I was aware of preconceptions towards K-Pop fans or ‘kweebs’, and wanted to make it apparent that they shouldn’t be ostracized. Alternatively I wanted to explain idol/k- culture to DBD-enthusiasts while remaining ‘in-character’ if possible.  > Hearing that DBD fans were concerned the game was going to cater and bring ‘those’ types of people (k-pop enthusiasts) made me a bit sad, because I was one of those people! I’d just been a sleeper agent ✨. So it was a way to prove we can be normal DBD fans too. No gate-keeping here.

Show why Ji-Woon was indeed a good killer/horror icon, and why All-Kill has some of the best writing in the game, as a cohesive story line.  > People upon initial impression thought it was a marketing scheme. “Why is a pretty guy showing his abs. DBD is just catering!” When in reality that reaction was exactly what made Ji-Woon a good and scary killer! I Jokingly like to say this is the ARG effect. Audience reaction is so fitting to how they would perceive him as a real idol serial-killer. No one would suspect him, it’s so dramatic. (To me All-Kill does this fantastically in homage to the cultural awareness)

Make people who were fans of Ghostface into fans of Trickster.  > This one may seem a bit silly. Admittedly though, ghostface is a fan favorite in the DBD roster. No one questions why he was added, in fact a large majority of the fandom was asking and wishing for him to be added in before he was. People liked the charming narcissistic side of him that DBD created, and enjoyed seeing him interact with others. > While Trickster isn’t an exact copy, in fact I think they’re more Day and Night of each other, he had all the traits fans enjoyed about Ghostface. Ambition towards their chosen art/production, god-complex/narcissistic, an iconic appeal that only they bring. The thing that makes them charming and likeable to fans. > I knew if I could get any type of die-hard fan to see the ways of liking Trickster, it’d be the Ghostface enthusiast. It’s good to remember the good ‘ol waffle: What would Ghostface fans like. Nothing will be seen as cringe on this blog. > I don’t know how to explain this other than It’s for my own sanity and comes with safe space territory. It’s welcoming. You want broken Korean while I’m learning? Deal. You want that OC shaped like a 8? Got it. I’ve got limited energy and I’m not wasting it on if I think something’s cringey or not. 

I don’t know if I’ve reached these goals on a big scale, but I do hear that I’ve achieved small successes through some friends, so I’ll take the win. I still try to implement these and think about them when I make posts, so they’re pretty fundamental in what I hope to achieve on my blog. 

♫ Interaction and Audience Awareness ♫

This was touched on a bit from my goals, but I wanted to talk about how your blog will interact with others and how to be aware of your general audience. I’ve never really struggled when interacting with blogs, so I may either be the best or worst person to speak on this matter.

AUDIENCE AWARENESS: Firstly, I would say keep a general audience in mind when making your blog (especially your first blog in a community/fandom) and posts. While I see some people vouch for “+18 blogs only, minors DNI” I think it marginalizes your audience, and personally I’ve never been a big fan of it. Mostly because I like to keep things comfortable for the general populace, especially on an open social-media site. If +18 interactions happen, I’d say take it off blog or put it under a ‘keep reading’ “spoiler”. Intimate or gore pieces can scare away casual enjoyers; but if you’re adamant in your character portrayal to interact with others of that caliber and you’ve already found your community, the use of tags should definitely be your priority, as well as making a list of them easily accessible and understandable. This is keeping Audience Awareness in mind and stops anyone from feeling discomfort. It’ll allow people to feel safe interacting with your blog.

In the same vein, I understand that my characterization will be interacting with others, anons or blogs. This means that despite how much of a jerk my character would be, always make sure it’s spoken about to others before hand or explained OOC or in tags why they act that way. We don’t want hurt feelings amongst the blog community or to make someone think they did something wrong. It simply allows us to have insight into the character. 

Alternatively, I’d say try going for a less intense characterization, unless you want to intentionally be the edgy blog. Edge is more palpable in small doses over a constant assault of it with only some moments of levity. We want the blogs to be a good enjoyable experience with interesting variation in the character, not a threatening one. Overall, I’d say make sure you show a full range of emotions and knowing roughly how your muse will react, and reasoning behind it. Being well-rounded makes things dynamic and keeps viewer engagement.

INTERACTIONS: Don’t be afraid to talk to other people in the fandom/community. I hear often that blogs are shy on approaching others, and it causes an anxiety of wanting to interact, but never doing so and not knowing what to ask (this section should help). We can’t expect people to just see us and come talk to us like popular kids. An effort should be made on reaching out and connecting to others first. If you want someone to talk to you, then talk to them first. 

Now this comes with some loose rules of comfort though, especially if sending in asks. 

Speaking for the DBD community: If you chose to interact with other blogs and run a blog, make sure you send relevant asks. Try to think of something that’s unique to your character/characterization only. Something no one else will ask. Why? Because there’s anons who can catch the basics, and you can easily get overwhelmed by people asking the same question from different blogs. This makes the mun worry over which iteration to answer, and may end up not picking yours. Simply because it wasn’t unique enough to catch interest. If you’re certain no anon asked a certain question yet, and know it might just be a quick response that won’t leave room for a response, then ask on anon, not on blog. It’s good to remember that when you send an ask, you’re not only trying to find out more about the muse being asked, but taking a chance to show off characterization of your own muse as well. Something that could potentially lead to an actual interaction over a quick answer. A well thought out ask can spur relationship building between blogs, and that’s, in my experience, truly what people are most interested in seeing. Chemistry and relationships between characters/blogs. Not entirely just a single characterization on it’s own.

Most importantly though, try not to be afraid of the community. We’re here to entertain them and have fun with them, not stand around like an awkward kid in the corner of class. This ties in to our last section:

♫ Make yourself Happy ♫

We’re ultimately making an ask blog to make ourselves happy. It’s good to cater to an audience, but make sure you don’t sacrifice your Core Values or what you want to get out of your experience running an ask blog. Alternatively, if something isn’t working and you’re unhappy with it, it’s okay to change ideas. I’m constantly learning new facets of my character and building on them, and sometimes I wonder if it’s hypocritical, but I’ve realized it’s just growth as both muse and mun. If it can naturally happen over the course of the blog, then that means you’re doing a great job building a ‘story’ or ‘dynamic experience’.

We muns do this for fun and it’s good to try not to take ourselves or the blogs too seriously. (Alternatively, try not to make it all a joke either. We do like some character depth.) Like I said, a dynamic blog is fun and seems safer and more enticing to interact with. This is all a fun social-platform and ask blogs are just another way to stay social. 

Admittedly it can get overwhelming some times, but being open about this or even knowing when to close an ask box or step away can help keep your passion from burning out. Set boundaries and limits. Maybe just try changing something up and do a meme or personal art/comic if you want to keep nursing your muse but don’t want to feel indebted to doing asks/responses or keeping a certain style. 

Don’t wait for the perfect ask or interests, it’s okay to create content individually and share what your ideas are without being asked. In doing this you can draw people’s interest. So long as you keep yourself happy, you’ll do good running a blog, and will be able to maintain your run-time and passion much longer. Most importantly don’t look at numbers. I never mentioned them anywhere, but that’s one way to not have fun. If you’re doing your blog right, you’ll get big numbers.

Create for yourself firstly, and others secondly.

Bet you weren’t expecting this much. I just had so many thoughts... Still, I truly hope this helped anyone curious in wanting to start up a blog, or even help those looking to polish up theirs.

Thank you everyone for 750 followers never in my life had I ever dreamed of coming till here. So many followers still feels like a dream to me. It means a lot to me and I want to thank each and every single of my readers and moots thank you guys for staying with me and supporting me for so long.

I kinda had written a short anecdote on how I started writing here but I fugured no one would be interested so I deleted it LMAO.

Anyways for this milestone I kind of prepared two events because:

a) I actually didn't want to do any writing because I still haven't completed my 500 followers event or my 250 followers event thanks to all the things that decide to pop up in my life.

b) chances are that the first event would flop so I still kept a writing event too cus you know...

EVENT I

Its a question answer session where if you guys ever had any questions for my characters...you can ask me...(this is pretty dumb idea but it sounded fun and I really wanted to do it-)

This is pretty simple. Just choose a member I write for from SHINee, EXO, NCT and any of these aesthetics and send me a request! EXO Chanyeol: Oppa?

First Chanyeol Scenario! And have you heard his ‘Without You’ ? Damn it got me stunned when i listened, i didnt know it was going to be the one by Mariah Carey. I mean ofc chanyeol doesn’t speak perfect English but what can get more attractive than him playing the electric guitar😭 His film’s gna be released globally soon, wish him the best! 

Also I took so long to write this, that by the time i’m done, he has enlisted:,) Sigh, Chanyeol, see you the 27th of every month!

Characters: Chanyeol x reader

You caught Chanyeol’s attention, but… You’re not so into rowdy guys. How will it turn out?

Ding Dong!

You were outside EXO’s dorm with a bottle of Cola. You didn’t really know EXO, in fact you only actually knew Jongin. The story goes where one night you saw a really sick man swaying side to side along the streets. Being the nice and kind soul you were, you went up to help. And that person turns out to be jongin, which at that point you didn’t know was an EXO member until much later when your friend showed you an EXO poster.

You helped him to the apartment building and you left your number with him out of worry because he insisted he head up alone. After that you guys somewhat became friends. And ever since you knew he was a celebrity, you occasionally ran errands for him just to save him some trouble.

‘Annyeong y/n! Thanks for buying the cola!’

‘Sure Jongin oppa! I’ll be leaving then !’

‘WAIT!!!’

Just as you were about to leave, a shout came from inside the house 

‘Annyeong Jongin Chingu! Are you free? Wanna join us? I wanted to play a 2v2 switch game but we are short of 1 person. THERE’S PIZZA HERE TOO, ARE YOU INTERESTED?!’

Honestly, you haven’t even spoken once with chanyeol but here he is, trying to aggressively convince you to play games together. Not exactly an extrovert yourself, that overpowering energy was quite a turn off for you. You raised a brow at Jongin, trying to ask him to get you out of this situation

‘Erm.. Actually, i...’ In your mind ran a 1000 different thoughts on what’s the best way to politely reject this but you just couldn’t think of any, just then jongin finally cut in, only to say

‘Yeh come join us! It’s going to be fun, plus I’m sure you haven’t eaten dinner too’

Although you were a still a little reluctant, you relented for the sake of Jongin and entered the house. Seeing Sehun was also in the house, you both greeted each other politely and you proceed to sit quietly by the dining table. 

‘LET’S EAT QUICK CANT WAIT TO TRY THE NEW GAME’ Chanyeol just sounded overly excited about this. 

Over dinner, Chanyeol in particular was really friendly with you, probably just trying to make you feel comfortable as he tried to get to know you. But after a while, the conversation floats back to him talking about himself. You weren’t complaining though.

‘Okay so that day..’ Chanyeol begun his 5th or 6th anecdote during the dinner but couldn’t stop laughing before he could even get started on it.

He was laughing so hard he started hitting jongin beside him and his exaggerated movements actually hit the table so hard it toppled your coke glass over onto you

‘oh my gawd!’ you reacted in reflex and got up immediately from your chair.

‘HYUNG! SERIOUSLY?!’ Jongin reacted with shock then laughter. He quickly passed you some tissue 

‘Let’s just clean up right now and start the games’ Sehun added calmly 

‘Y/N I’M SO SORRY. LET ME GET YOU SOMETHING TO CHANGE INTO, IM SO SORRY’ 

You could tell Chanyeol was really feeling sorry when you saw that panic in his eyes when the coke spilled. Though it’s really weird to be wearing some other guy’s clothes when you just knew him for hours, you couldn’t be possibly telling him you would only wear jongin’s and not his... So you followed him to grab something to change into 

Stepping into his room you can’t help but get abit wide eyed. His room was almost like what you would imagine a musician’s to be. Guitar, piano, bass, iMac, subwoofer etc. You were so amazed you couldn’t stop glancing around as he tries to uncover some clothes from the depths of his cabinet.

Finally finding it, chanyeol turned around and caught how your face literally wrote ‘amazement’,  he couldn’t help but laughed beneath his breath before handing a sweater to you.

‘Why do you look so amazed? Your expression made it look like you just walked into a museum.’ Chanyeol asked

You felt embarrassed from his question and was absolutely tongue tied. Looking towards the corner of the room you caught sight of a basketball and a miniature basketball hoop. You quickly switched the topic

‘um you play basketball too?’

‘Yes I do! Like in my free time, once in a while. Outdoor activities keep me sane when I feel like I need a break, apart from jamming of course, as you can see. Why, do u play too?’

‘Oh I see, haha. And yes I play basketball too.’

‘I wasn’t expecting that! You really dont look like it though! What’s...’ before he could finish his sentence, jongin came into the room to check on you.

Breaking off that small talk with chanyeol, you changed out of your dirty top into the sweater. Sigh, the game hasn’t even started but you were almost already drained.

2 hours into the game, you were getting really really sucked out of energy. Looking at chanyeol still so engrossed in the game, you wonder how could he still remain so fired up.

Just then the bell rang and the boys looked at each other, 

‘Who’s that? Any of you got delivery ?’ Sehun asked as he walked towards the door. Looking through the peek hole before opening the door.

‘Ah Suho Hyung, why did you not open the door on your own’ Sehun asked

‘I left them in the car, too lazy to grab it. Oh, hi y/n, what you doing here?’

Feeling really tired now, your honesty got the better of you and you replied without thinking 

‘Hi Suho-ssi, I got called to play some games, but now i’m stuck here’

‘Ya, you punks , it’s really late now you know. It’s way past 1030, Y/N still needs to walk home. Just shut off the game right now.

And Chanyeol didn’t you say you were meeting your high school friends tonight?’

At this Chanyeol loudly cursed then exclaimed

‘AH RIGHT I FORGOT! I GOT TO GET CHANGED NOW’ 

Phew, Suho surely is a life savior. More than happy to be out of this situation, you quickly packed your stuff and thanked the boys

‘I’ll be leaving, thanks for having me today and the free pizza.I had fun. Jong-in oppa please tell Chanyeol ssi i’ll wash his sweater before returning to him.’

At the same time chanyeol came out from his room hastily,

‘Y/N wait for me! Let’s leave together!’

You would have preferred having some quiet time by yourself right now, but you didn’t want to make things awkward by saying no. Seeing how Chanyeol got comfortable with people so quickly was beyond your understanding.

You were always took really long to warm up to new people unless you could really click with them, just like jongin.

‘Ah thanks for waiting, let’s go! Where do you stay? Is it near?’

Trying your best at a comfortable and casual tone, you replied ‘Uh yes it’s just about 5 to 10 minutes away if I walk. Where you going to?’

‘Oh just meeting my friends for supper. Let me walk you home since it’s not too far, anyway my friends are still on the way

So you were saying you play basketball do u watch nba or something ? What position do you play’ Chanyeol naturally strike a conversation with you

‘I DONT really follow, but yeh I check out the highlights and stuff. I play the Center position’

‘SERIOUS?! YOU’RE NOT VERY BUILT FOR A CENTER!’ You must be really good then!’ Chanyeol seemed to genuinely be amazed 

Chuckling a little, you just shrugged and said

‘Erm yeh but the coach just thinks I’m pretty tough I guess.’

‘Oh and i heard from jong-in you didn’t know EXO until recently, so what music do you like ?’

Feeling a little self conscious about the fact that a musician is here asking you bout your music taste, you answered hesitantly

‘ R&B, acoustics, ballads , those sort? Ed Sheeren , AKMU and some other English oldies’

‘Then do you know ‘Without you’ by Mariah Cary? I’ve been listening to it lately and it’s been stuck in my head!’

Laughing at how random that was, you softly started singing along with him as he started. 

At this hour of the day, at about 11 pm your mind isn’t too functional to overthink, you felt like you were loosening up towards him. Though he was a little too over enthusiastic and animated, you somehow liked that he seemed to have this innocence to him.

Just as your short jam ended, you have also reached your apartment

‘I’ve reached! Thanks for walking me back. Bye, drive safely later!’

You flashed a smile, bowed politely and was ready to head in, but chanyeol actually called out before you could head off

‘y/n! Wanna exchange numbers? We could go shoot some hoops at arcade someday or just ball.’

You were not too keen actually, wanting to just keep your relationship with him as simply acquaintances.  Thinking bout how to put the rejection across nicely , you said

‘Oh, thanks for offering. But I’m really not a night person . And you know, you guys being EXO and got to be stealthy , everything goes on at night. Really not my thing though, I don’t think we can ever match a time.’

But turns out he was more insistent than you thought

‘Oh then I could invite you for games or a jam session ! I wouldn’t say we have exactly similar tastes in music but I do like the music you listen to and you sound great singing!’

That made you blush a little , partly embarrassment partly being shy at his straightforward words.

‘It’s fine chanyeol-ssi, I’ll just see you at your dorm when I pass by to see Jongin oppa and return your sweater. Bye’

For the next 2 weeks, you somehow got more frequent calls from Jongin to run errands for him. But when you turned up at their dorms and Chanyeol was in, he would either be the one to get the door or be inviting you in for whatever they were doing. 

Today afternoon, you were over at their dorms again, but just with jongin and chanyeol. You had bought tteokbokki and corndog for yourself and decided to buy some for EXO too, but turns out it was just the 2 that were in. 

‘ah, y/n thanks for the food. i’m going to change and leave for dance practice soon’ 

‘you’re welcome jongin oppa, i’ll leave soon too’

just as jongin headed to the room, chanyeol took the chance to ask

‘y/n are you free? Do you want to hangout together instead? Since i’m free today and you’re already here.’ Chanyeol asked expectantly. 

You were already much more comfortable with him, but together in the house? You wouldn’t even with Jongin.

‘Erm, Chanyeol-ssi, it’s okay. I’m not too comfortable staying in the house with another guy ..’ you said it hesitantly, feeling a little bad for rejecting him. 

‘Oh actually, I meant to head out, there’s this place which I thought both of us will like’

oh shucks, that was embarrassing. In an attempt to cover up your embarrassment, you laughed abit harder than you should and agreed more enthusiastic than you would normally

‘OH ! HAHA! Ok, sure then let’s go!’

Almost instantly, you saw Chanyeol’s eyes brighten up. He got up immediately got changed and you both headed out.

In the car ride, you finally calmed your senses down and became sane enough to realise

‘Chanyeol-ssi it’s still pretty early right? Wouldn’t you heading out with me like this be really dangerous?’

Stopping his incessant rap and singing ever since you got in his car, he replied

‘There’s this arcade I used to go to when I was a student. It’s really old now and no one really goes there anymore. It closes around 5pm everyday , but I know the boss! I’m gonna ask him to just let us use the place for a short while’

With one hand on the steering wheel, he looked at you and was bubbling with excitement as he explained. You laughed seeing how excited he was, somehow also making you look forward to the fun to come.

Being really chatty as usual, he spoke the whole ride about anything and everything, slowly without even knowing, you dozed off.

The next moment you woke up, the sun was already starting to set and you’ve both reached the arcade, which was on the second floor along a shophouse street.

It looked so rundown and shady from the outside. The signboard was unlit and had completely yellowed. The window panes were blue tainted and so dusty you could see the dust from the streets.

‘Chanyeol Ssi are you sure about this? Please don’t bring me to a haunted house’

‘Ya, trust me, you’ll be surprised’

Together you headed towards the dark staircase that led you guys to the arcade. You struggled to catch up with his pace as he went up the stairs. The narrow and unlit staircase made you so jumpy that when the lights suddenly came on, you quickly latched your hand onto chanyeol’s sleeves without thinking.

Laughing at how scared you were, chanyeol slowed down his pace, walking side by side with you instead.

‘Why you so scared! We’re reaching soon, don’t worry, it’s hella cool place!’

Not really having the capacity to respond now, you continued holding on to his sleeves until you reached the end of the stairs.

Letting go, you awkwardly said thanks and entered the arcade, finding that it was certainly better than you thought but not fantastic.

‘Lee Soo Hyung! I brought my friend here today , could you let us use for about an hour + after you close?’

‘Chanyeol ah! It’s been a while! After all these years I finally see you with a girl. Hello Agassi, why did you come here with him? Be careful he doesn’t slaughter you like how he does when he plays games with his friends’

Not knowing to whether tears of joy or sadness would fit this situation, you raised your brows at chanyeol.

‘Alright I’ll leave this place to you guys, I’ll be back in about 2 hours after I eat and run my errands’

2 hours passed by in a flash. And you sure had lots of fun, shooting hoops, playing Daytona, Mario kart , and even challenging him to dance on pump it up. All of which u lost rather miserably cause you were just horrendous at games.

As you both left the arcade, you thought back in realisation that you didn’t see that annoying over competitiveness today in him today. Instead it felt Chanyeol wanted to make it fun for the both of you rather than winning you.

Internally feeling a little touched about this, you thought to subtly show your gratitude by treating him later.

Walking out of the stairs to the streets, you saw Baskin Robbins just right across, below a dancing school.

‘Chanyeol ssi! Let me buy you ice cream ok! Let’s cross the road to Baskin Robbins’

‘Haha, y/n why the sudden treat? I’m not complaining though, I want Choco mint in a cone’

You went into the shop and placed the order for the ice cream. But when you came out, there was a commotion right outside the shop and realised chanyeol was in ‘trouble’. 

You panicked internally , where did the fangirls come from? They all surrounded chanyeol and were squealing and asking for pictures.

You headed back into baskin Robbins, not too sure what you should do. It’s not going to turn out well if he is seen with you.. Should you head off first? Or should you help him?

With one hand holding on nervously to the ice cream you looked intently at the situation outside, with a total mind blank.

Only about 15minutes later, you saw chanyeol managed to escape back to his car as the crowd in this secluded area eventually died down.

You didn’t head out to find him, worried that if any Fangirls were left, you would land him in trouble.

You stayed at in the shop, looking at the melted ice cream you bought for him, should you just dump this away? Do you head off yourself soon?

Just then a call came in

‘Y/N! Where are you? I’m so sorry I got caught by those dance school girls. Are you alright ? Where did you go ? In case you’re wondering, i got your number from jongin to contact you’

‘Chanyeol -ssi...? Are u ok? I’m just waiting at baskin robbins .. just head home without me, I’ll just find my way back..’ feeling still at loss about the situation, you replied with a heavy heart

‘Ah, no, just head down to the alley behind I’ll pick you up from there. This place is too secluded , I’m not going to leave you here alone’

‘But ..’

‘Just meet me there’

Feeling down and guilty that this was kind of your fault. You walked mindlessly to the alley with the half melted ice cream. If it were not for you, chanyeol wouldn’t even be heading out in the afternoon right?

As you entered the car, you kept quiet not really knowing what to say. But Chanyeol started apologising repeatedly, and telling you about the whole situation earlier

But all that ran through your mind was how risky the situation was and how bad you felt. You were still quite in shock as you processed that just happened

‘Chanyeol ssi, why did you bring me out today? Seeing that made me realise the severity of how dangerous it could have been for you if you were caught together with me.. and I can’t help but feel it’s my fault you got surrounded by those fan girls..’

Pausing before continuing, you added

‘Let’s never do this again. I’m really sorry’

‘Don’t be sorry, i am not even blaming you or anything! Plus i was the one who wanted us to hang outside together. I knew this might happen, but i still wanted to have fun with you’

‘Why Chanyeol-ssi?’

Without thinking, he answered almost immediately 

‘Because i just find you cute’ 

You blanked out completely as those words, you could feel blood rushing through your cheeks. 

You started externally processing your thoughts out of nervousness and panic

‘i know this sounds ridiculous but are you like interested in me? i know i am blushing like mad right now but im not really into loud guys. and though i had lots of fun with you just now i think you should just give up if you are even thinking of anything’ you went on rambling not even knowing what in the world you just said

He looked at you seeming to have something to say. But then looked at the messy ice cream and decided to reached for it instead.

‘thank you for this ice cream, and y/n whatever you said…honestly, can i just have 1 thing from you?’

‘uh what is it?’

‘can you just call me Chanyeol Oppa instead?’

Your heart skipped a beat at what he said and you could feel his gaze was still on you.

After a few moments of silence that hung heavy in the air, you shyly and softly asked

‘Chanyeol oppa shall we go back now?’

Still feeling shy to look at him, you stole a glance at the rear view mirror and saw Chanyeol smile the widest smile you have ever seen since you guys met. 

Finishing off the ice cream, he started the engine, ready to drive off. But before stepping the accelerator, he looked up at the rear view mirror and you both caught each other’s eyes and both looked away almost immediately smiling shyly when your eyes met briefly. 

As the car speeded off, you kept your eyes on the side view mirror, and you were glad you weren’t the only one smiling like an idiot the whole ride back. 

Was this a little boring? I read through it multiple times and can’t really tell anymore. i hope it was fun for you guys who read it for the first time~ though i must admit if i read a fanfic with such an ending i might feel lowkey unsatisfied :p
