A lot of the anti-Zionist crowd reminds me of the Che shirt kids from high school and undergrad.
You know the ones I'm talking about.
In high school they'd talk about how the "system was evil" while purposefully being disruptive in class, would barely pay attention or pass a class cause the material was all "propaganda", and would wax philosophic about their teenage comprehension of Communism and its associated leaders. Any history class would eventually end up with them arguing with your teacher. Yes, they would have some good points, but at the same time their understanding of the material would be juvenile at best.
In college they'd get worse. Some of them might continue wearing the shirts and paraphernalia, but others would go all out and start wearing the black beret and/or associated dress of Che and other leaders. They now have a college vocabulary and use it to drive every discussion towards their political ideology. Almost nothing exists outside of their political framework and talking to them is exhausting.
They're also not seen as a disruption anymore, but more as that annoying Tankie who has to go "um, actually" and then go on a monologue about the CIA in class. Professors will either let them do this or tell them that it's not the time or place and that they have to teach. The former gives a small sense of triumph as they "subvert the system" (and we do this because if we don't you become more annoying), the latter causes them to grumble and complain about being "silenced".
Yes, we're aware of the CIA's actions. Yes, Che had some very good points about the role of neo-imperialism in the Global South. Yes, the USA has done some absolutely horrid shit. But what makes everyone keep these people at arms length and/or ignore them is the refusal to acknowledge the atrocities that the man on the shirt did. It's the black and white juvenile reasoning that colors everything they talk about and putting him and other leaders on a pedestal.
If you talk to anyone in the Cuban diaspora they, their family, or someone they know within the community will refer to Che as a butcher. They will tell you about the absolutely horrific things he did as a leader. They will tell you about how this man that young adults are idolizing would imprison and execute them for any number of things that they enjoy simply because he objected to them. The same thing goes for anyone who has family members that survived the USSR or any other 20th century authoritarian country that called itself Communist.
It's the refusal to acknowledge that the world exists in shades of nuance. It's the refusal to acknowledge that these authoritarian Communist governments would imprison, exile, and/or execute all of them and their friends for being queer, speaking out, their writing, their taste in music, their manner of dress, etc, etc... That countries, governments, leaders, ideologies, and people are multifaceted and not this idealized fantasy that can be argued for with whataboutisms.
We see this same behavior in the current batch of anti-Zionists. Some of them are the newest cohort of Tankies who are just repeating the same behaviors we've seen time and time again. However, in this current situation we all have access to information and are able to address things for what they are. The disruptive misinformation isn't as tolerated any more because Che shirt kids are no longer just marching around on the college green in their Communist LARP gear, but are instead coopting a war and its suffering for their Glorious Revolution accelerationist rhetoric.
The adherence and defense of Cold War era tactics, the almost rabid want to implement them, the use of whataboutism to defend your blorbo and the refusal to acknowledge their atrocities, plus the additional antisemitic laden screeds, all the while the world is attempting to move forward from this is downright regressive and juvenile.
And keep in mind, I'm an old alt kid. I've been part of counter culture for decades now. I have patches older than most of these college Tankies. I remember the Che shirt kids and how we stayed away from them because they often spouted rhetoric that was both fantastical and extremely violent. If you're unaware, Che himself believed that to achieve the socialist utopia that extreme violent revolution was necessary (sound familiar?). Not mentioning the fact that often this process gets stuck at the authoritarian step after the violent revolution.
Meanwhile, we just wanted to be accepted for wearing all black, chains, and just being "creepy". We weren't actually violent as most suburban moms believed. So we often stayed away from people who actually believed in violent rhetoric. Not only would it not look good for the alt community, but it was simply antithetical to what we believed. We wanted to be accepted in society and help improve it, not burn it down (and look where we are now, everyone wants a goth mommy. Mission achieved).
The two groups are counter culture in essence, but extremely different. So when I say the current batch of anti-Zionist protesters are just Tankie Che shirt kids, believe me. I've known their type for years.

i have been non stop thinking about schizophrenic latula again. of course i could always repeat the same things i always say, latuda is a mood stablizer and it doesn't make sense that a pyrope would become anxious out of nowhere because their family line never implies that pyropes ever have a "shy" phase and are entirely more likely to fall down the line of obsession and depression and spiralling over minor things. but i was talking to my friend about the alternian economic system and we came to the realization that alternia is likely a much more scripted planet than we initially assumed, since it's essentially a planet that focuses on pumping out child soldiers i believe that their economic system is almost completely falsified by the HIC and higher powers, each caste is set up with a projected job, a certain amount of money, a specific living situation and lusus to groom them into the perfect position they'll take as an adult once exiled from the planet and gaining their title. ive already spoken about how i believe that the beforan trolls are all essentially encouraged to pick a persona to "brand" themselves as in a show of personal expression that is expected of them by the government, but it got me thinking about how these two things interact with eachother. flarping is such a popular game on alternia specifically because all the kids are, essentially, larping as their projected adult counterparts until they leave planet. thats why there doesn't seem to be any ACTUAL job structure, the janitors are all kids pretending to be janitors until they leave planet, and highbloods commission people with their government allotted money, which funds the economy as well. there are mentions that if you don't "play your role right" you'll be culled and its because they figured out a system to learn who is willing to play the right role and who isnt BEFORE they have the power to actually harm the empire, which is NOT ON THE PLANET. drones kill anyone who steps out of line and its called culling because theyre still little kids. its like taking out the "bad actors" in a play, they arent needed, itll stall the progress of the machine. all of the characters essentially have a pre-determined role and persona they can fall into, and if they refuse to play along or start to look at the fact that theyre in a roleplaying game for too long they'll be culled.
anyways. this leads me to believe that because beforus is a planet without the exiling system, that means it's likely a system where no one ever stops playing "pretend." due to there being no expansion, the only thing that matters is appearance. It doesn't exactly matter how good you are at something, culling doesn't need to mean killing, it just means you lose your right on how to present yourself. You were clearly unable to play your part because you were too dumb or too pitiable and need someone else to ensure youre able to be presentable as the persona they choose for you.
this leads me back to latula. i believe that as a knight of mind, latula likely was able to see right through the pretend games that they were all playing extremely fast, but due to a knights innate questioning of themselves and their own thoughts, she was likely easily convinced that the problem was not the system but HER actually, for scrutinizing the system. calling people fake or invalid or implying they aren't what they actually are i'd imagine is a very strong offense in a society exclusively centered around always wearing masks. i also feel like this is exactly why all of the dancestors show that they are deeply disconnected from who they truly are, with mituna being the only one who couldn't keep up appearance and therefor had to have his autonomy stripped not just by beforus but by the narrative itself, disconnecting him from who he used to be by force. latula likely takes medication not for social anxiety but because she quite literally ruminates too much, i can see her being anxious in a paranoid and pointed way specifically at forces that be, especially considering how mind players act, but i cannot for the life of me ever see latula being the shy socially anxious fluttershy type i constantly see (or at least SAW) her be portrayed as. while this doesn't specifically point to schizophrenia, due to what latuda actually treats, it's my favorite headcanon to apply to her.

i'm so tired of antizionists saying that zionists have made the word antisemitism meaningless as a way to brush off accusations of jewhate when they're doing their level best to rob zionism of any coherent meaning. in 140 years of jewish zionism (or 2000+ if one thinks of pesach as a form of zionism - ie jews returning to their indigenous homeland after years in exile), there have been nearly 100 years of nazis and communists using zionism as a dogwistle slur to politicize their jewhate and christians appropriating the word zionism to larp out the end days on top of the many different zionist parties that have grown in israel itself, and modern antizionists acknowledge NONE of that
i've never considered myself a zionist except in that most ancient sense, but 7 months ago when i saw former friends start really complaining about "zionists", the hair on the back of my neck stood up. i talked myself down, sure that they were just ignorant and blurring the lines between the likud party and all self-described zionists, but that ignorance has become so much worse, because sure enough it's come right back around to be used as a cudgel against any jew who poses a threat to The Party Line
if antisemitism has become meaningless, then i'm going back to good old fashioned jewhate, and i think anyone who can't give a reason to be antizionist that doesn't acknowledge the many uses is full of it. opposing zionism "in all its forms" is jewhate, plain and simple

this isn't really about who the best writer is but rather whose version of Dean you like the best. like Robbie tends to use a nerdy Dean, Adam Glass focuses more on how Dean is good with kids, etc
also not including Edlund or Kripke for any of these because that's too easy sorry

I know we'll probably never know, because it will probably never be plot-relevant, but I would love have a flashback of when TAS Morph joined the team. Especially because, out of all the characters, they don't have a comics "joining the team" story that would work for TAS.
Changeling had his whole "reformed villain dying of cancer impersonate Xavier and die heroically" thing. I can't imagine TAS Morph ever having been a part of Factor Three, unless they were coerced into it (like Banshee in the comics), or they were somehow tricked into thinking that Factor Three was just a super-villain LARPing group running around in silly costumes. ("Wait, you guys actually want to hurt people?!") If nothing else, if TAS Morph had ever been a bad guy prior to joining, it would have come up when they came back brainwashed and evil.
Exiles Morph was a New Mutant, and the New Mutants don't exist as a group in TAS, despite Roberto and the shape-shifting Illyana cameo.
We also don't know how long Morph was with the team before the unfortunate Sentinel incident, although I think there is evidence to suggest that they've been there awhile. They were there long enough to cultivate a strong friendship with Wolverine, and to know all the team well enough to imitate them perfectly and poke at their weak spots. And in "Courage," the way Morph and Wolverine talk to each other ("Feels like old times," "See you haven't lost your touch," etc.) sounds very much like two people who are used to working together and have probably partnered up on missions many times. I can't imagine Wolverine talking like that to someone who had "died" as a newbie.
Given that Morph originally took the place of Thunderbird as the short-lived character, I headcanon them being recruited around the same time as Wolverine and Storm, as part of TAS equivalent of the Giant Size team. So after the O5 + Lorna, before Rogue and Gambit. Of course, given the shaky continuity on the show (like Cyclops and Xavier acting like they don't know Angel, Pyro and Avalanche not knowing Rogue), you could really retcon Morph in anywhere. Maybe "Angel" in the O5 was actually Morph the whole time, and that's why Warren, Scott and Xavier act like they've never met before.
#x men 97#morph#morph x men#kevin sydney#I hope someday we can agree on a tag for X-Men 97 Morph#because the “morph” tag gets used for a lot of different things#and I think most people don't know the name “kevin sydney” since they haven't used it on the show

Winners
Daniel Penny - Full acquittal. Dismissed charges. He walks a free man. Case never should have been put before a jury.
Pete Hegseth - The media dug into his past with a fine-tooth comb, West Point lied about him but he had receipts. This helps frame all the media hammering as a witch hunt.
Sunnis - Bad stretch for Shia Crescent and now they get to rampage across Syria.
Israel - Hamas is wrecked. Hezbollah decapitated and now cut off from their patron. Iran looks cucked. Assad is gone. Neocons had a mantra, “the road to Damascus goes through Baghdad”. Who is left to cause them concern?
Losers
Assad - Exile. Luckier outcome than his supporters left behind who will be beaten, tortured and executed.
Syrian Religious Minorities - Dark days ahead. The erasure of Christianity in the Middle East in the 21st century is a crime.
Kurds - Unlikely they get a state and unlikely a Turkish backed Syrian junta lets them LARP as sovereign in northeast Syria.

Raven Lair Treasure
Rescued from storage exile, I present my boxes full of shiney treasures to make your corvid/goblin/gremlin/dragon brain go brrrrrrrrrrrrr...
The boxes.
Well the blue Sun&Moon box is empty, but the box itself is a treasure, and will be filled with shines soon...
The light brown roundish box contains a bunch of treasures that usually reside in a space dedicated to faeries. Some of the treasures will find their way into the Sun&Moon box.
The cigar box with decorative elements is a creation I made for a Steampunk event I participated in; the event was also the inspiration for a character creation andnthe name Korva.
My group created a steampunk themed natural history curio tent, and I also created the character Dr. Korva Tempus; a time traveling, dimention shifting naturalist.
I imagined Dr. Korva Tempus as a cross between naturalist Charles Darwin (but like a badass Chuck D) and Alice from Alice in Wonderland; with some Wizard of Oz vibes thrown in the mix. Steampunk was the first aesthetic I fell into, but I feel like my inner corvid was peeking out through when creating and collecting things for Dr. Tempus.
This piece is ment to be a time traveler's watch/compass, given to Korva by the Queen of Hearts.
I made several pieces that acessorized my LARP as Korva, and had variety of items that worked as props for Korva's character. I attended the Handcar Regatta event 3 years in a row. It was wonderful. But I think what O got most out of it was the chance to make altered art. I still love steampunk, and cyberpunk for that matter, but my home is amongst the creatures ans cryptids.
And last, but not least, the black wooden trunk. My adventure trunk. My treasure trunk. My pride and joy...lol. But seriously, this trunk holds many of my best curios and adventure artifacts. And I promise to make a proper post about the contents of my black trunk.
Thanks for letting me share my treasures. 🖤

The current situation with Wizards is yet another reminder of why I think it’s good for the hobby that people explore other kinds of tabletop games. There’s no one end-all be-all game that fits every player, every group, or every scenario. There’s a wide variety out there designed to do everything from play a funny one-shot to organize a whole campaign.
Spend an evening with your friends playing a round of Fiasco. Get up to some action-movie nonsense with a night of Wu Shu. Play a night of Dread, a game whose primary mechanic is a Jenga tower. Try one of the many PBTA-framework games out there--City of Mist! Scum and Villainy! Monster of the Week! Make up your own with the framework, if you like.
Fall in love (as I did) with the storytelling potential of the Genesys system, which can be adapted to all manner of genre (most famously in the fantastic FFG Star Wars series of tabletop games). Again, you can build your own world off of this system, and there are conversion rules to get around the biggest stumbling block, which is their proprietary dice (and free resources to replace physical dice like skyjedi in-browser and RPG Sessions on discord).
Explore (one of my personal favorite) sci-fi settings in Eclipse Phase, a game that’s distributed under Creative Commons, so you can get all the source material you need free and legally. ...I wanna recommend Shadowrun because I do like some of the stuff it has going for it (less so others) but god I’m still recovering from 5th ed. Hopefully the new edition is better. I haven’t played the new edition of Traveller but I remember it as being a delightfully weird but very fun experience.
If you want something a little scarier, there’s always Call of Cthulhu (my personal first TTRPG ever and what got me into the hobby), the newer more action-packed Pulp Cthulhu, or the 20th-century cosmic horror explorations of Delta Green. World of Darkness’s latest edition has done some interesting stuff if you like classic monsters, and the WoD LARP scene is still going pretty strong if you want an “extended cast with a vague murder mystery parlor vibe” kind of experience.
There’s a ton of stuff out there to suit all manner of sensibilities and play-styles. At the end of the day, it’s all about telling a story, whether that story is happy, horrifying, intrepid, or silly as hell. There’s more than one way to tell it.
I’ll wrap this rant up with my own personal experiences. Technically, the game series I’ve been playing the longest, continuously, is Exile Studio’s Hollow Earth Expedition. Me and my pals have, at this point, about a decade’s worth of storytelling, worldbuilding, and (most importantly) inside jokes from the several campaigns we’ve run from it.
It’s a defunct system now, and we’ve adapted our latest campaign for the Genesys system. We never got the third sourcebook we were wanting, so we’re making it on a WorldAnvil with our group. As a system, it was imperfect, and clearly not designed for the long campaigns we preferred. As a setting, it was compelling but definitely needed some tweaking and brushing up from players. HEX itself was a mere blip, and Exile Studios doesn’t even have a website anymore. Pretty sure they got snatched up by Studio2. Despite all that, though, it was the one that worked, somehow, for all of us.
You genuinely never really know which system is going to be the one that clicks in a way that lasts. Don’t hold yourself back from trying something new.
#ttrpg#idk man just my two cents#most of my current extended irl friend groups i met in SOME WAY#through ttrpgs#i hate to see the state the big names are dragging it in#a rant

the funniest thing to me about the hotel thing is as a once citizen of dA you would know as well as any furry on the site at the time that this series is like she took the loudest fan fave elements from two separate works of hers which were both more technically involved and more like mature (an episodic webcomic about a woman learning to over come her fear of animals after sexism in her field of work has manifested physically into an island she's exiled on/and a crime noir reservoir dogs style thing with the dead coming back as animal demons because they were so good at crimes) into one loud key jangling money grab and has been larping like its her magnum opus always intended

🌀 What would be the first thing you'd lose a Holosuite for?
LARPing - We've got a small local LARP group and it's INCREDIBLE fun, but I can only imagine what we could get up to with the effects that a holosuite could provide, the holographic monsters, the scenery and castles and caverns and yeaaaaaah. It would be SO cool!
❤️ Your ST comfort character/s
I actually have a "Council" of Trek characters to help me with my anxiety - my therapist worked on building a "compassionate voice" with me, where you need to imagine four people to embody the different components. Mine are:
Wisdom - Spock - he's the best because he'll just be like "logically, Andi, that's not true" and it's extremely comforting to just have him shut down anxieties like that
Non-judgment - Bones - he'll be like "okay, you messed up, but everyone does and that's alright" in his grumpy but fond way :3
Warmth - Julian - he's there to remind me that people still like me and that I should still like myself, and to prod me to go and get a hug from my housemates if I need one
Strength - Jim - he'll be like "okay, that happened - what do you intend to do about it? Where do we move on from here?", I love in the show how he just keeps carrying on and he helps me to, too ^^
📚 Favourite ST fic you've read
At the moment my absolute fav is the series Escapees of Exiles by @kittenwriter - it's a gorgeously detailed AU where Julian gets revealed as an augment during the Academy and finds himself on Terok Nor during the Occupation. It has so much world building and so many feelings and the characters - canon and new - are all so vibrant and alive and yeah 🥰🥰
There are so many more I could mention, but I'll limit my cheating to just one more because I cannot not mention this one: "so. wē spacemen in geārdagum"
It's a Spirk fanfic written in Old English, with a Modern English translation AND explanation of the word choice and it's so interesting and fascinating - and a whole lot of fun to use my German and Latin to half-make-out some of the words! The story itself is a small missing scene from The City on the Edge of Forever and it is *deliciously* beautiful.

Part 2 ot my collection of DnD characters! Today we get a lesbian trauma baby!
Tw! Child abandonment, child neglect, ptsd, trauma, slight gore(?), gruesome depictions, imprisonment
Picrew : Baby carrot character maker
Legia Hardweaver
(I have a typical medieval setting campaign that she is in but i also have one thats modern so ill just use the medieval for now)
- a cold and closed off Goliath with more than enough trauMA OH GOD PLEASE NO! SHE HAS ENOUGH ALREADY STOP-
-a draconic bloodline Sorcerer (Silver dragon) who was forced to multiclass into a path of storm Barbarian during her years of "Training"
-She is a selective Mute who only really communicates through sign language, morse, or writing. The people that have heard her voice have known her for 5+ years. And even after that she still doesn’t do it much unless absolutely necessary.
-her face is very rarely uncovered. Her right eye and mouth are practically never visible. Though there are times where she will take off the eye patch around certain people.
- Her size and strength are her key attributes. Being able to dig a tunnel through a mountain with your bare hands in under an hour is no easy feat and her party doesn't plan to forget that seeing as she had to make it big enough for herself as well. Though her party ain't complaining. They get scary dog privileges in the form of a 9'11 (kinda thinking about changing that-) Ripped Female Goliath following them around.
- But her reason and need to be so big and scary is a bit less of a fun story. Legia is a very private person due to trust issues and past traumas. Her largest scars left over are her explosion burn scars that are very close to covering the whole right side of her body. Poor girl has been injured so many times from her time as a military weapon, that she has frozen like a deer in headlights at the sound of sparks.
-She was abandoned at an extremely young age and forced to navigate the mountain tundra that her tribe resided after waking up on the forest floor. She would have not survived if not for the silver dragons that randomly found her curled up under a tree. After the first encounter, around 8 years later she was found by the militia and taken in.
-her time in the milita is very fuzzy, atleast thats what she tells people. She remembers the more gruesome bits of time. Her training regimen, her testing process, the smells and sounds of the lab, the overwhelming smells of gunpowder as well as the unnerving quiet after a battle, the sights of victory in the form of bloody corpses and broken skulls, and things of that nature.
- her time there led her to meet her first love, A young woman named Evangelica, whom was the daughter of a very prominent aristocrat in the city. Having to keep their relationship secret both for Evangelicas sake as well as Legias. They were together for around 8 years when Evangelica proposed they run away together. Legia agreed. Though that little fantasy would come to an end quickly as Evangelicas father had found out of her little escapades and lectured her. Only 12 minutes of yelling and screaming were needed before Evangelica was finally convinced that Her father's words of Legia were true. Through this experience, Legia learned trust and loyalty is never guaranteed and that years of love and admiration mean nothing in the eyes of the wealthy.
-After this she swiftly escaped the confines of her "Instructor" and ran off into the world where She was able to quickly establish herself as a mercenary. She wanders with no real purpose other than to forget.
-Her current group consists of a orc boy who has fire magic but is deathly afraid of fire, a Larping Monk who is excessively exroverted, the Larping Monks emotionally tired Paladin sidekick, and an Old War veteran Elf Fighter who was exiled from his home town.
- Her relationship with the Monk never was great. When she first saw him in a town yelling about his faith, she immediately despised him. He had then noticed her looking, approached, greeted her respectfully, tried to shake her hand, and then woke up in an infirmary with 8 broken bones , a severe concussion, and the strong will to find her again.
-The Paladin and her get along fine. They both are pretty quiet so they prefer to just talk about the little things and then get on with their day.
-The Elf however... they are actually fairly close. They met while they both were just wandering and came across each other in the woods. Upon the sight of someone dressed a kin to that of the milita, legia immediately began swinging. When he had finally got her to stop and listen, they just kinda stood there staring at each other and then as she turned around, about to walk away, he noticed her limp and offered help which she hesitantly took as she was low on supplies.
-In the beginning of their partnership, legia was doing what she normally does which is practically NEVER communicate. Alexander (the elf) was not too shaken by this as his first encounter with her told him a bit on her stance with him. Over time, they developed a very tight knit father-daughter relationship. Around the 3 year mark was when he had first heard her voice, 2 years before he saw under the eyepatch, and 5 years before he first saw under her mask. All in all, it's a very good relationship between the 2.
- The Orc, Bastion, they found when clearing out an old iron mill. He was chained to a work station and in horrible condition. Legia was the first to find him, the room was full of loose coal, lit ovens, and random fires. When she first walked in he was paniced and uneasy. While trying to conversate with him a fire burst out beside her, her reflective response was her ice magic which completely killed the flame almost instantly. This caught Bastions attention very quickly and made him feel a lot safer with the large fire killing lady.
-He was so shaken up by everything so after they had completed their mission and got him out of there, he became completely inseparable from legia. If he had lost sight of her, he would go into a panic induced rage trying to find her. Legia sees him as a baby duck that just follows her around but she doesn't mind at all. If she can be the person she always wished to have while in the milita to this young orc, then she would be happy to help him.

Every lunchtime in primary school we would pull the branches of the willow tree and weave garlands which we wore as part of our class-wide LARP game system consisitng of different factions each with different philosophies and fighting styles. I was a wheat-gatherer for the Minimen, as my wrists were lissom enough to fit between the chain link fence to grasp at tall featherreed grasses, which I along with my fellow Minimen spread across a sandy spot beneath the Sun to dry, and then we split the grain into a small hole dug by the Irrigators with their toolsticks to be ground into a coarse flour. I once was tasked by our chief to hide the grasses for the weekend but forgot and was almost exiled when the grand magus Harry was visited upon by our god the Megaman who revealed that this was part of the divine plan. By leaving the grain out it had baked in the heat of summer and would nourish us. I was promoted beyond my station and became a merchant. We did not walk across the field or playground for fear of vultures, we kept to the shadows of the trees. I went to the Mittens, our hesitant allies, and for their loyalty in battle offered them grainshare. They were a feline people - the Ringmen and Sabers spread rumours that they were the abhorrations caused by a necromantic Vampire-cat, but we knew better - they did not eat wheat but saw its value, and took it from us. They betrayed us in the end, and gave victual to the Ringmen when a flood destroyed the Trim-Trail farms and the Village of Cress, but justice was done when they invaded the Mittens' own territory. Through it all the Meadows of the Willow were sanct. There we came together around the blue stone in the grass and wove our garlands and sang our songs.
