Dean Obeidallah at The Dean's Report:
Donald Trump’s idea of being patriotic is not about supporting the United States. It’s about supporting those who help him. That’s why Trump has long praised and defended the Jan 6 terrorists who were helping him attempt to remain in power despite losing the 2020 election. Now Trump is taking this support to a new level by welcoming to his exclusive country club in New Jersey an awards show called the “J6 Awards Gala” created to honor those who attacked the Capitol—including those who brutally beat police officers. This is akin to Osama Bin Laden holding an awards event four years after 9/11 to honor those who waged that terrorist attack. And it’s just as vile and anti-American.
The website for this Sept. 5 event--organized by the Stand in the Gap Foundation--boasts that Trump has been invited to speak—although reports are he’s not expected to attend. But the event website notes other visible Trump allies will be speaking including Rudy Guiliani and former advisor Peter Navarro—who was released in July from prison after serving three months for refusing to comply with the House Jan 6 committee’s investigation. It's no surprise that this event is being held at one of Trump’s marquee properties given his track record. The GOP’s 2024 presidential nominee has hailed the attackers as “patriots” and vowed to pardon those convicted of crimes— including those “who assaulted officers.” And last year—to little media attention--he spoke at a fundraiser at this very Trump golf course in support of the Jan 6 insurrectionists. Trump has even kicked off campaign rallies with an announcer asking the crowd to “please rise for the horribly and unfairly treated January 6 hostages” followed by a recording of the national anthem performed by people incarcerated in connection with the attack. Indeed, it’s these Jan 6 prisoners who sang that song--which Trump lent his voice to--who will be honored at the upcoming event at Trump’s golf course.
[...] In addition, the organizer of this J6 awards ceremony is Sarah McAbee, the wife of Ronald Colton McAbee, a former sheriff’s deputy who was sentenced to nearly six years in prison for assaulting police officers on Jan. 6. As DOJ detailed, McAbee despicably held down another police officer who had been “knocked to the ground, kicked, and stripped of his baton by other rioters” enabling the crowd to viciously beat him. As a result, “the officer sustained physical injuries, including a head laceration, concussion, elbow injury, bruising, and bodily abrasions.” These are just some of the Jan 6 attackers expected to be honored at Trump National Golf Club in New Jersey. Interestingly, the country club’s website explains that for large events like weddings or galas, organizers need to contact the club management to utilize a “membership sponsored program.” Did Trump sponsor this event? Did he waive this requirement? It’s unclear but one thing is certain: Trump has not denounced the event, called for it be canceled or demanded his photo be removed for the website promoting the “J6 Awards Gala.” At this point, even if Trump were pressured and ultimately denounced the J6 awards gala, it would ring hollow given his record of praising and defending the attackers. These are Trump’s people and Jan 6 was his attack. As the House Jan 6 committee’s final report summed up well, “the central cause of January 6th was one man, former President Donald Trump, whom many others followed,” adding, “None of the events of January 6th would have happened without him.”
At the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, NJ, Donald Trump is set to welcome the domestic terrorist-honoring J6 Awards Gala on September 5th.
Trump himself is invited to speak but currently isn’t confirmed; however, Peter Navarro, Bo Loudon, Colby Covington, and Rudy Giuliani are just a few of the confirmed speakers.

bestie…. i fear i need finlay match recommendations 😗
Bestie. I have loaded you up with 20 matches. I told you if you give me an inch where Finlay is concerned, I will take a mile.
Now, first things first. All but three of my recs are on NJPW World (and two are free to watch without an account). If you don't have an account, I'm more than willing to share my login with you in the name of spreading the gospel of Debbie Chan.
That being said, if you think you might want to sign up for an account, now is a GREAT time to do it because they're actually launching a brand new website this Thursday (11/9), complete with apps for Android and iOS, which they didn't previously have. It's only $9 USD/month, so I think it's well worth it. However, you won't be able to sign up until Friday, after the new site is live. Additionally, as part of the overhaul, they're upgrading a massive portion of the archive footage, and, unfortunately, nothing from prior to 2021 will be available to watch until they put it back up. (All my recs except for one on YouTube are from 2021 on.)
Again though, I will absolutely share my login with you (and you'd be able to log in right away and watch as mine is an existing account). Just let me know!
Okay, now that that's out of the way, onto the recs! And my apologies because this... is long.
FYI: I've listed these in chronological order, and they're best viewed in that order as it really helps to tell the story of how Finlay became who he is today :)
FinJuice vs. G.o.D (YouTube) - YouTube comes in clutch for a pre-2021 match! This is good viewing because 1) FinJuice was a well established and fairly successful tag team, and don't even get me started on all the messiness of Juice running around with Jay in Bullet Club Gold while Finlay is literally leading real Bullet Club now; and 2) Since overtaking Bullet Club in March, Finlay has almost exclusively feuded with G.o.D. (he finally put an end to it this past weekend at Power Struggle). And it's crazy seeing Finlay's evolution from then to now.
2021 New Japan Cup Quarter Final vs. Jay White (3/18 show) - This was a HUGE win for our boy because, going into this match, Finlay was on an 0-12 losing streak against Jay. And he and Jay will be forever intertwined because they came up in the NJPW dojo together and were roommates and best friends and everyone constantly compared Finlay to Jay (they still do now), and that created a MASSIVE chip on his shoulder that lead to him clocking Jay over the head and subsequently taking control of Bullet Club. So yeah. V. important match in the lore of Finlay.
2021 New Japan Cup Semi-Final vs. Will Ospreay (3/20 show) - I hope you're ready for a lot of Ospreay, because he and Finlay have history. Back in 2021, Ospreay defeated Finlay in the semi-final of the NJ Cup and then went on to win the tournament and the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. This plays into why Finlay is gunning for Ospreay now.
Resurgence 2021 vs. Jay White - This match was for the NEVER Openweight Title. Jay retained... but Finlay eventually went on to win that title after taking over Bullet Club, which also used to be Jay's.
G1 Climax 32 vs. Juice Robinson (7/26), Will Ospreay (8/2), and El Phantasmo (8/10) - Finlay returned to Japan for the first time in over a year for the G1 Climax 32, and he had a really strong showing. This was when I first started to get the brainrot for him. I really recommend watching all his matches from that tournament... but these three are the most important to Finlay's character because of his history with Juice and Will and what would come later with ELP and Bullet Club.
Burning Spirit 2022 vs. Will Ospreay (9/25 show) - This match was for the IWGP United States Championship, the very one and same that Ospreay currently holds and that Finlay destroyed with a giant mallet at Power Struggle this weekend. Ospreay retained back then. But I have a feeling (and sincerely fucking hope) that there's a new title in Finlay's future.
NJPW World TV Championship Tournament vs. ZSJ (YouTube) - After coming up short in the G1 Climax 32 and against Ospreay (again), Finlay still had a chance to win the newly created NJPW World TV Title; and then ZSJ eliminated him in the second round. I really think this loss was the straw that broke the camel's back and really set the stage for Finlay's frustration and his comeback as the leader of Bullet Club.
2023 New Japan Cup vs. Tomohiro Ishii (3/6 Anniversary Event, free to watch without an account!), Tama Tonga (3/19), and Sanada (3/21) - And we've reached Bullet Club Finlay! Finlay's match against Ishii was the first match of the tournament, and no one―absolutely no one―expected him to come out in Bullet Club gear with Gedo, of all people, in his corner. And not only that, but he handily disposed of Ishii. He made it all the way to the final where he lost against Sanada, but he sent a loud and clear message during the entire tournament that this was a new David Finlay (and I was a goner).
Capital Collision 2023 vs. AR Fox (YouTube) - I think you've seen this one? But including it because it's a good match and also the night Finlay recruited Clark Connors, the first member of what would become Bullet Club War Dogs (and I was there!).
Wrestling Dontaku 2023 vs. Tama Tonga (5/3 show) - Remember how I said that Finlay eventually won the NEVER Openweight Title after taking over Bullet Club? This was when he did it.
Dominion 6.4 in Osaka-Jo Hall vs. El Phantasmo - This. This is the match and night that ruined me forever. After kicking ELP out of Bullet Club (basically because he was and is close with Jay and didn't respect Finlay), Finlay defended the NEVER Openweight Title against him and proved that he could back up all the shit he was talking. But besides that, this was the night the War Dogs were formed. I highly recommend also checking out the end of the IWGP Junior Tag Title match just so you can see Drilla Moloney turn on United Empire and join Bullet Club. It quite honestly altered me forever.
G1 Climax 33 vs. Tama Tonga (7/26), Eddie Kingston (8/8), and Will Ospreay (8/10) - Did I mention that Finlay has spent most of this year feuding with Tama/G.o.D? They tried to kill each other in this year's G1, and it was fantastic. He and Eddie also tried to kill each other. But Ospreay beat him in the quarter-finals. Just more fuel for why he's going after Ospreay now.
12-Man Elimination Match: Bullet Club vs. G.o.D. and Intergalactic Jetsetters (10/1 show, free to watch without an account) - Because I would be remiss not to rec a match with all the War Dogs (and Chase is there, too). This is a fun one, if not a bit of a clusterfuck. (And shout-out to Kevin Knight, who I also adore.)
Destruction in Ryogoku 2023 vs. Tama Tonga (10/9 show) - This is the last of Finlay's singles matches against Tama, and unfortunately he lost the NEVER Openweight Title back to him (which I don't think anyone expected). But it's a good match and Finlay looked strong despite his loss. And now that I know he likely (hopefully?) has a new belt coming to him after the start of the year, I'm honestly okay that he lost. (Because Tama doesn't even have the title anymore, believe it or not).
So there are my Finlay match recs. I'm well aware this is overkill lmao, but I really am excited that you want to know more about him, and I want to do him justice. Because he really is my favorite guy, and he deserves to be recognized as his own wrestler and person not just in relation to Jay or Juice or anyone else.
But I won't blame you if you don't watch all of these, because I know I went insane 😂
#david finlay#bullet club#match recs#i... really do have the brainrot huh#this is my magnum opus#this and hit me like bang#asks

LETTERS FROM AN AMERICAN
August 10, 2023
HEATHER COX RICHARDSON
“Good Lord, Who Among Us Hasn’t Paid For A Clarence Thomas Vacation?” David Kurtz of Talking Points Memo asked this morning. Kurtz was reacting to a new piece by Brett Murphy and Alex Mierjeski in ProPublica detailing Justice Thomas’s leisure activities and the benefactors who underwrote them.
Those activities include “[a]t least 38 destination vacations, including a previously unreported voyage on a yacht around the Bahamas; 26 private jet flights, plus an additional eight by helicopter; a dozen VIP passes to professional and college sporting events, typically perched in the skybox; two stays at luxury resorts in Florida and Jamaica; and one standing invitation to an uber-exclusive golf club overlooking the Atlantic coast.” The authors add that this “is almost certainly an undercount.”
Thomas did not disclose these gifts, as ethics specialists say he should have done. House Democrats Ted Lieu (D-CA), Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), Bill Pascrell (D-NJ), Gerry Connolly (D-VA), and Hank Johnson (D-GA) have said Thomas must resign. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), who has led the effort to extricate the Supreme Court from very wealthy interests for years, commented: “I said it would get worse; it will keep getting worse.”
Thomas’s benefactors, Murphy and Mierjeski noted, “share the ideology that drives his jurisprudence.” That ideology made Trump lawyer Kenneth Chesebro, who has been in the news for the release of his December 6, 2020, memo outlining how to steal the 2020 presidential election, speculate that Thomas was the Supreme Court justice the plotters could count on to back their coup. “Realistically,” Chesebro wrote to lawyer John Eastman, “our only chance to get a favorable judicial opinion by Jan. 6, which might hold up the Georgia count in Congress, is from Thomas—do you agree, Prof. Eastman?”
Last Saturday, Republican leaders in Alabama illustrated that their ideology means they reject democracy. After the Supreme Court agreed that the congressional districting map lawmakers put in place after the 2020 census probably violated the 1965 Voting Rights Act, a lower court ruling that required a new map went into effect. But Alabama Republican lawmakers simply refused.
Alexander Willis of the Alabama Daily News reported that at a meeting of the Alabama state Republican Party on Saturday, the party’s legal counsel David Bowsher applauded the lawmakers, saying, “House Speaker [Kevin] McCarthy doesn’t have that big a margin, that costs him one seat right there. I can’t tell you we’re going to win in this fight; we’ve got a Supreme Court that surprised the living daylights out of me when they handed down this decision, but I can guarantee you, if the Legislature hadn’t done that, we lose.”
Paul Reynolds, the national committeeman of the party, went on: “Let me scare you a little bit more; Texas has between five and ten congressmen that are Republicans that could shift the other way,” he continued. “How could we win the House back ever again if we’re talking about losing two in Louisiana, and losing five to ten in Texas? The answer’s simple: It’s never.”
Alabama attorney general Steve Marshall added: “Let’s make it clear, we elect a Legislature to reflect the values of the people that they represent, and I don’t think anybody in this room wanted this Legislature to adopt two districts that were going to guarantee that two Democrats would be elected…. What we believe fully is that we just live in a red state with conservative people, and that’s who the candidates of Alabama want to be able to elect going forward.”
The determination of Republican officials to hold onto power even though they appear to know they are in a minority is part of what drove even Republican voters in Ohio to reject their proposal to require 60% of voters, rather than a simple majority, to approve changes in the state constitution.
Meanwhile, today’s July consumer price index report showed that annual inflation has fallen by about two thirds since last summer, a better-than-expected number suggesting that measures to cool the economy are working without hurting the economy. Real wages have outpaced inflation for the last five months, and unemployment is at a low the U.S. hasn’t seen since 1969.
At the same time, the country is ending one of the last pieces of the social safety net put in place during Covid: the rule that people on Medicaid could remain covered without renewing their coverage each year. That rule ended in April, and states are purging their Medicaid rolls of those who they say no longer qualify. In the last three months, 4 million people have lost their Medicaid coverage, mostly because of paperwork problems. (Texas dropped an eye-popping 52% of beneficiaries due for renewal in May.)
Biden officials have tried to pressure states quietly to fix the errors—including long waits to get phone calls answered and slow processing of applications, as well as paperwork errors—but yesterday released letters it had sent to individual states to warn them they might be violating federal law. Thirty-six states did not meet federal requirements.

Learn from the Best: An Exclusive Interview with JustEVN, the Up-and-Coming EDM Artist in New Jersey and New York
INTRO
Some musicians stand out as trailblazers in the dynamic realm of electronic dance music (EDM), influencing the nightlife and thrilling audiences with each beat. One of those artists is JustEVN, a newcomer to the NJ and NY EDM scenes. Originally from my hometown, he has transitioned from DJing frat parties at Rutgers to organizing clubs and events in busy urban settings. I chatted with JustEVN today to learn more about his career, which included making a reputation for himself in the competitive music scene and spinning songs for college pals. This is a narrative that speaks to anybody who wants to make their passion their career, not only aspiring DJs. Here is our conversation!
Vinny: JustEVN, nice seeing you again! To start, can you tell us a bit about how you first got into DJing?
JustEVN: What's up, Vinny. Music has always appealed to me, especially deep-beat music. I used to mix music on my laptop for fun when I was younger. However, things didn't truly come together until college. To be honest, I initially started DJing at frat parties just for my pals. Seeing how everyone responded to my sets at those gatherings gave me the realization that this was more than just a pastime.
Vinny: Haha I bet those frat parties were a pretty fun time! How did those early gigs shape your style as a DJ?
JustEVN: Undoubtedly crazy! (Giggles) I learned how to read a crowd a lot from playing in that sort of setting. Everyone is there to have fun at a frat party, and if a song doesn't work, they'll let you know. I thus learnt to combine fast and maintain the energy. I first became interested in trap and bass-heavy music—music that just gets people moving—there. Even after I began playing in more "professional" situations, I continued to rely on that foundation.
Vinny: It's amazing how those experiences paved the way for bigger stages. As someone from our hometown, did you feel any particular support or challenges when starting out here?
JustEVN: As someone from a tiny community, I had to work extra hard to make an impression. To be honest, though, there was a lot of local support. Friends would tell others, and I would be hired for home parties, small gatherings, and more. However, landing performances in larger places and escaping that cocoon became a hurdle. It's been a combination of hard work and community support; when people have faith in you, they encourage you to take greater chances.
Vinny: What’s been one of your most memorable gigs so far?
JustEVN: My first New York club show, I'd say. Of course I was anxious. People were anticipating something more sophisticated than a shabby party set because the gathering was larger. However, it felt amazing after I settled into the flow. It seemed as though all of the preparation and effort had paid off that one evening when you saw the crowd move and heard them applaud. I realized then that I wanted to keep improving and developing in this scene.
Vinny: I love hearing how passionate you are about performing! Especially in such varying venues, how do you strike a balance between being true to your original approach and accommodating other audiences?
JustEVN: That’s a good question. As I perform for new audiences, I strike a balance between remaining loyal to my roots and developing. Although I've learnt to be versatile with genres, my approach is still high-energy and heavily influenced by bass. For instance, I'll move a little while maintaining the same vibe if I'm in an area where people are more interested in houses or garages. No matter the location, I want people to know that it's a "JustEVN set," you know?
Vinny: Absolutely. So, what's next for JustEVN? Any big plans for the future?
JustEVN: I'm in the process of putting out some unique music. I've been concentrating more on live performances up to this point, but I believe it's time to start producing. I want to contribute something fresh to the scene that combines all of the inspirations I've absorbed throughout the years. In the future, I hope to tour—possibly even outside of the United States—and introduce my sound to a worldwide audience.
Conclusion
As our discussion came to an end, I couldn't help but be eager to see what JustEVN will do next. His path from small-town college parties to the stages of big clubs is a testament to the strength of perseverance, dedication, and maintaining one's composure. JustEVN's narrative serves as a reminder to people who are motivated to follow their own aspirations: every great artist begins somewhere, and with commitment and community support, they can make a lasting impression. So, stay tuned—JustEVN is only beginning, and if his story is any indication, the best is still to come.

Satisfied Lyrics
words and music Andrew McKee
It was twelve days ago in a pub. Night was near. I was on me fourth pint of their best Irish beer When a thought quickly struck me of all I hold dear. So I went on outside to the hill with my beer.
Well, I smelled all the flowers all the flowers. I've left none to behind. I've told more the truth than I've told fib or lie And I hope when you find me in the hills where I'll lie That it'll always be said that I died satisfied.
Well, I took both the good and the bad in me life. And I made the most of it in a home with me wife. And I raised me two kids both a girl and a boy. And they made all me life, oh, a gift to enjoy.
As for friends I've had many I ne're walked alone, And a few were like family just as much as me own They helped in times troubled and made happiness known. And they gave me a young heart I've never outgrown,
Well, the evening was leaving and the sun said goodbye. I thought of me past and I smiled with a sigh. Oh, I had no regrets nay a reason to cry. So I drank me beer down 'till the glass all was dry.

The Pretenders Share New Song; New Album “Relentless” Out Sept 15
The Pretenders have shared “A Love,” the new single from their forthcoming studio album, Relentless. An official visualizer – featuring exclusive footage of the legendary band’s recent live run at small UK clubs – is streaming on YouTube. Relentless arrives via Rhino Records on Friday, September 15. Pre-orders – including digital download, baby pink vinyl, black vinyl, and CD – are available now. “I suppose ‘A Love’ is the most traditionally Pretenders-sounding song on the album,” says Chrissie Hynde, “in the vein of ‘Kid’ or ‘Talk of the Town’ or any of the mid-tempo ones over the years. I often see love/relationships almost in the same vein as drug addiction. UNDER FIRE
1915
Under Fire is a play by Roi Cooper Megrue. It was originally produced by Selwyn & Company and co-directed by Megrue and its star, William Courtenay. The original production also featured Violet Heming (above), Frank Craven (who played an American reporter named Charlie Brown), and, in the ensemble, Edward G. Robinson.
The play was presented in London the previous season. At the time of production, the United States had not yet officially entered World War One (aka ‘The Great War’) which didn’t happen until April 6, 1917.
The play was billed as “a new play of today, tomorrow, and yesterday.”
This was the second of Megrue’s “Under” plays. The first was 1914′s hit Under Cover, and the third, and least successful, was 1916′s Under Sentence. All three were produced by Selwyn and Co. The first two were seen in Atlantic City featuring William Courtenay.
Megrue, however, denied that the use of the ‘Under’ titles was intentional. The plays are thematically unrelated. However, creating a third title containing ‘Under’ makes it difficult to claim it was not intentional.
"Under Fire" concerns itself with an adventurous and lovable young Irishman, (William Courtenay), who, finding himself in England at the beginning of the war after several years of foreign service, goes to Belgium with the first expeditionary force when England declares war. In England, he rediscovers the woman he loved, whom he had left years before because his poverty prevented him asking her to exchange her life in the most exclusive London society, where both her wealth and her charm placed her, for the nomadic existence of the wife of a young officer. By a striking chain of events, she finds herself In a position where she cannot accept his suit, nor tell him why, but she promises that in the great war game he is entering she will help him. The very circumstance which prevents her from becoming engaged to the Irish captain sends her into Belgium almost as soon as he goes. They meet, and to all appearances, are on opposite sides of the great struggle.
It was claimed that the company for the played number 150 with 50 speaking parts.
Under Fire premiered in Atlantic City at Nixon’s Apollo Theatre on the Boardwalk on May 24, 1915. Unusually, the play held an invited dress rehearsal for actor and managers who could not be away from New York City on its opening night.
On August 5th, the play was seen at the Broadway Theatre in Long Branch NJ.
Under Fire opened on Broadway on August 12, 1915 at the Hudson Theatre (141 West 44th Street).
About the Venue: The Hudson was bult in 1903. It was most often used as a TV studio in the 1930s, 40s, and 50s. In 1974, it was a blue movie theatre. In 1980, it became the Savoy, a rock club. In 1987, it received landmark status, so it was incorporated it into the adjacent Millennium Broadway Hotel as a conference center and auditorium. The venue re-opened as a legitimate Broadway theatre in 2017.
Like Under Cover, a novelization of the play was published in 1916, It was co-authored by Richard Parker, published by The Macaulay Company. The book was serialized for newspapers.
“In order to discourage the audiences at the Hudson Theater from taking sides during the performances of Roi Cooper Megrue’s ‘Under Fire,’ Selwyn and company have inserted a notice in the program requesting that no member in the audience indulge in any unpleasant demonstrations which might be offensive to others in the audience, or to those on the stage.” ~ BROOKLYN DAILY EAGLE
"’Under Fire’ may well be Judged by German sympathizers as out-and-out anti-German propaganda. With probably the best Intentions in the world, and with an apparent effort to be fair at least, Mr. Megrue has nevertheless moved a load of dynamite into the Hudson Theater and placed it under fire.” ~ BROOKLYN DAILY EAGLE
“’Under Fire’, while dealing with certain phases of the Great War, attempts to be neutral, although its characters being English, Belgian, French, and German, are naturally partisan.” ~ Samuel French Acting Edition of the Play, 1918
“[The trench scene] is a masterpiece of the stage architect. As one critic put it, ‘A sky brilliant with stars, a soldiers’ game of cards, the sentries on watch, the bursting of bombs and signal lights, and finally the aerial mine that ends all —Belasco never created anything more perfect.’” ~ BRETT PAGE, AUSTIN AMERICAN STATEMENT
Although Belasco was noted for his plays’ technical proficiency, he did not like Megrue’s writing. He must have changed his mind, however, because he produced Megrue’s play Seven Chances, which ran concurrently with the third ‘Under’ play Under Sentence in the second half of 1916.
The Broadway production of Under Fire ran for 129 performances, and then decamped to Boston’s Park Square Theatre. From there it embarked upon a tour of the North East: Massachusetts, New York State, and Pennsylvania.
In early 1916, a production opened in Sydney Australia at the Criterion Theatre.
In April 1916, the play was presented in Brooklyn, first at the Shubert, then at the Montauk.
On May 1, 1916 it was presented at Philadelphia’s Forest Theatre. The role of Charlie Brown, formerly played by Frank Craven, was taken by Frank Morgan. By this time, Megrue and Selwyn began planning production of their next Under play, Under Sentence. Also in 1916, Edward G. Robinson made his film debut. It would be the movies, not the stage, that catapulted the actor to fame. In 1973, he posthumously received an honorary Academy Award, accepted by his wife Jane.

Announcing the Winners of the 2019 McGingerbread Hell Competition
Wow! It was another great year for the McGingerbread Hell Gingerbread House Competition! The judges had their work cut out for them selecting between so many fine selections. Congratulations and great job to everyone who submitted an entry in this year’s contest. However, only six houses could make the cut.
Let’s start out with announcing the winners for Honorable Mention.
Honorable Mention: Priced to Sell! by Tina B.
The judges were wowed by the impressive nub, the tumorous turret, and the fantastically mismatched windows.
Quote from the Project Description: A true GEM of a house! 6,738 SF beautifully set on .23 parklike acres. Mediterranian villa in front, stately Federal in the back; it's the mullet of houses!...Entertain in your beautiful backyard featuring a real StoneTek(TM) patio! The heavily pruned weeping cherry tree will be a real showstopper in 30-40 years! The largest roof in the neighborhood has Chex shingle roof in molasses brown. 4 BR / 5.5 BA / $899,000 / Days on market - 923
Honorable Mention: Festive Roofline Soup by Jessica C.
The judges LOVED the complexity of the roofline, the absurd gabling, and the 3 car garage.
Quote from the Project Description: Features include: • Flaked almond shingles covering a roofline so complex that it required trigonometrical expertise from my math teacher father to work out measurements...[and] A low maintenance yard as the house takes up almost the entire block! Now accepting offers; the sellers are motivated as the couple are in the middle of divorce proceedings.
Honorable Mention: Vinyl Vanity by Joseph & Kayla S.
The judges were impressed by the impressive garage to roof ratio, the roof detailings, the candy-cane columns, and excellent lawyer foyer.
Quote from the Project Description: This 2 square foot, two and a half story Craftsmen Tudor Post Classical Revival estate is the luxurious home that your friends and neighbors never wanted...The car is truly the heart of Tudor England, so we put the garage proudly up front, where the yawning chasm of the door greets the outside world with disdain...Be sure to schedule your private tour soon, this edifice is sure to not last long. On the market. If you're curious about the price, you're probably too economically responsible for this property.
And now, our top 3:
Third Place: A Jersey Thing by Nùria O.
Judges were impressed by the size, shape, and meticulous detailing of the project, which is reminiscent of a truly terrible McModern. Anjulie, seeing the size of the huge roof said “this is some sustainable sh*t.” This project captures the true McMansion ethos in truly making us say “what the hell is going on here?”
Project Description: Inspired by a beatiful RealLife™ McMansion™ in Beach Haven, NJ, this year’s featured McGingerbread mansion is a modern 5-bedroom, 16-bathroom home made entirely in construction-grade gingerbread and held together with royal icing made from free-range egg whites. The nonpareil- and sugar-crystal-covered walls provide both isolation from stormy weather and give a vintage air to counterbalance the futuristic lines of the design...On the back of the house, you can walk out to a large deck (perfect for entertainment) boasting a valuable one-piece handrail. From there you can access the beautiful mediterranean garden, set in candy charcoal and stones, environmentally friendly as it’s practically maintenance free. Don’t miss your chance to visit this unique home—feel the sugar rush!
Second Place: Victorian Opulence by Beth & Tina C.
Reigning McGingerbread champs Beth & Tina C. returned to the scene this year with yet another gorgeous gingerbread. Judges were wowed by the complexity and scale of the project. Sarah was impressed by the intricate piping and lots of frilly details, and the homage to the traditional Victorian gingerbread form. Anjulie described it as “unbearably neat” - she loved the uncantilevered bay window, the detached garage that makes entryway irrelevant, and the hilarious-front balcoiny with half-wall (not code compliant). Kate was impressed by the detailing and the extensive cantilevers which too serious structural engineering to pull off.
Project description: New from the creators that brought you a true monstrosity last year: The Victorian Opulence! Featuring a lovely wrap around porch, adorable detached garage, and a truly magnificent waterfall in the backyard, this monolith of a house features thee decks overlooking somewhat patchy but still rescueable landscaping. Other features include an outdoor patio, a tower for all your princess capturing needs, and a truly cursed facade featuring a curved roof of all things! With several nubbins featuring windows, there is no angle on this house you can't see out of! Standing at nearly 2 feet tall and with an approximate total floor area of 550 square inches-excluding outdoor seating area-this Victorian style home will surely be the envy of all the gingerbread men in your country club. (Snow removal not included as part of HOA membership fees.)
And finally...
First Prize: Simply Having a Wonderful Building Crime by Erin E.
The judges all agreed: this house was outrageous - its execution was fantastic, and its design was full of so many delightful, humorous details. Sarah remarked: “This one is perfectly McMasion-scaled, with weirdly placed windows and gratuitous features to boot.” Anjulie couldn’t sing the praises enough: “I was particularly taken with the garage that is so far detached it makes the front door totally irrelevant...it's a castle of grand sadness. The Pete Buttigieg sign is the literal icing on top.” Kate loved the details: the Pete sign, the ridiculously diverse selection of windows, the piped on invasive plants and basketball hoop, and the glass and siding effects. Part of the competition lies in its absurdity and humor, and in that particular category, this house took the cake.
Project description: This home Defies the Ordinary. Located on a 2.3 acre lot, you'll be the envy of all your neighbors--and can watch from the top of the turret to be sure they're suitably jealous! Enjoy sitting al fresco under the portico above the garage, or on the hand-laid M&M stone patio! The two-story entryway accounts for just a few of the more than 60 sugar glass windows! All of the walls join up exactly where the architect expected them to, and no windows were covered up on accident!!!
Constructed over two weeks, out of ten pounds of flour, four pounds of powdered sugar, and more than half a gallon of corn syrup, this modest four-story house will surely stand the test of time. It’s been meticulously decorated with royal icing vines, wreaths, and Christmas lights, and landscaped with gingerbread boulders, definitely-naturally-this-green icing grass, and coconut macaroon topiary. The roof stands at 17 inches high, and is crafted from waffle cookie shingles over gingerbread rafters. For sale for just $1,895,000, this house is just perfect for new families or young professionals just starting out!
Special thanks to everyone who entered this year and to our judges Sarah Archer and Anjulie Rao for their contributions in pulling off yet another successful entry our search for the Gingerbread McMansion Hall of Fame!

Okay but like the idea of having a place that is no humans allowed would probably be comforting for some androids who had been through shit. Maybe less of a nation tho, more like a self-governed area where they can have their own laws. Idk
I understand for sure what you’re saying, and I’d love my fellow writers input on this, but, I suppose, I don’t see in a post peaceful!rev world there being many exclusively android locations, despite the spirit of them being entirely different from the similar, but hardly the same, concept of keeping androids out of certain establishments. Android only spaces would be for safety and solidarity and for androids traumatized or abused by humans who need separation from that. But I feel that-... they’d run into legal quagmire and be accused of discrimination by humans and it would be horrible mess.
I think that is where the idea of android shelters comes into play ( @wasscared for that). They provide relief and housing to androids exclusively. They are designed for androids, run by androids, etc. Still in their case there might be human technicians who volunteer there to teach androids how to do android repairs or to offer that service, etc.
I do, firmly, believe that in an extended post peaceful!rev world there would be android ‘bars’, android clubs, and android cafes, etc. They are catered toward androids, serve androids, and are mostly patronized by androids as well as employing them. They’d likely be established and owned by androids as well. Would they serve humans? I definitely see that being the case, but as with many spaces that are entirely patronized by a certain group (in this case species), humans probably rarely go there, because well... they are 90% android spaces. Either that or they only serve androids, but allow humans in the building, etc.
So I think there would be resources for androids much in the vein of allowing them to avoid human contact, though I think as far as laws, they’d likely be unable to have that separately, though policies, enforced policies, would be a different matter. NJ is definitely a place for safety, and they do offer housing, therapy, etc and (in my headcanon, though this is all straying toward headcanon ya know) one of, if not they, most robust android infirmary in Detroit. But humans do come to NJ, regularly, for business and negotiations and to see/be with android loved ones, so.
