ÂżWhat if Ultron killed the Guardians of the Multiverse?
To: Bryan Andrews, Ross Marquand, Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios
                             Intro
ÂżWhat if events went differently in the 1st season finale of What If? ÂżWhat if Ultron killed the Guardians of the Multiverse? In todayâs fan fiction weâre going to be exploring what wouldâve happened if Infinity Ultron had successfully won and killed the Guardians of the Multiverse in the first season finale of the What If series. ÂżHow can this affect the multiverse going forward? This is an original what if created by me following the mythology of Ultron and the Guardians of the Multiverse and the timeline of the MCU. Without wasting anymore time sit back and relax and enjoy this dark fan fiction.
                             Prologue
Now the reason why we explored those 3 worlds from the last 2 fan fictions I posted was because I had a terrible nightmare in which Uatuâs battle with Infinity Ultron took a dark turn and eventually he and the Guardians would be all killed and I am here today to explain everything. I am one of the Watchers and I am ur guide to these vast new realities. Follow me and pounder the question. What ifâŠ
                                      Act 1
The events of the finale were playing out the same as in our universe. The Guardians and Uatu were battling hard against Ultron and they eventually defeated him or in this case we almost did. In this universe Natasha Romanoff shot the arrow containing Arnim Zola but unfortunately it missed. This allowed Ultron to grab him by the neck and choke him to death in front of the Guardians as they watched in horror after giving their final attempts to defeat him. The Guardians and Ultron fought one last time but eventually was able to kill most of them except Thor and Gamora and Strange Supreme. They were able to put up a good fight against him but Ultron easily overpowered and eventually killed them for good except Strange Supreme. He told Strange that now he will suffer more than he ever did before ripping their egos apart killing them for good. With the Guardians of the Multiverse and Uatu  dead Ultron then returned to the observatory and decided to destroy the Guardiansâs worlds with the first being Carterâs world.
                                         Act 2
Meanwhile, in Carterâs world Black Widow, Hawkeye, Nick Fury and Brock Rumlow who has yet to become Crossbones were taking down a Hydra facility base when they saw Ultron arrive. They didnât know who Ultron was but since they thought he was an enemy of Hydra they fired at him but Ultron summoned his legion of drones instead. The Shield agents fought against the drones and Ultron sliced Fury into half just like what he did with Thanos in his world. He then grabbed Brock and Clint by their necks and choked them to death in front of Natasha. Natasha and Ultron fought each other before Ultron got the upper hand on her injuring her badly. Ultron told her that he fought a variant of her in his world and now he was going to destroy the multiverse and he destroyed the tesseract obtaining the Space Stone before putting it on his sword. After that the cleansing of Carterâs world happened. With one world gone Ultron moved to TâChallaâs world where he met king TâChaka and the rest of Wakanda. Ultron told him that he had recently killed TâChalla along with the rest of the guardians and was going to steal all the vibranium from them. They were all horrified to hear that and Wakanda then got into a massive battle with Ultron. They were able to put up a solid fight against him but Ultron decided that he wouldnât handle such pity hits and summoned his drones instead. Ultron equipped himself with more magnicraft and vibranium. Ultron would then leave Wakanda to die in search for Ego the Living Planet whom he detected earlier when he was fighting the Wakandans. Ultron found Ego but since he was a planet he felt that summoning his drones was almost impossible so he had to find a way to reach his brain to destroy the planet. Ego and Ultron clashed with each other before Ultron managed to find his brain and he detonated it killing him for good. Ultron returned to Earth briefly and killed Peter Quill as he could be a powerful threat in the future. Before he left he returned to Wakanda where he saw the city destroyed and everyone dead. He then left Earth to search for the Ravagers. Elsewhere, the Ravagers, Yon-Rogg, Yondu and Nebula along with Thanos found out that Earth has been destroyed and were further devastated when they found out that TâChalla was killed and eventually went to find the killer before Ultron himself showed up. Ultron arrived and immediately sliced Thanos in half like last time before again grabbing Yondu and Yon-Rogg by the neck choking them both of death in front of Nebula while the drones fought and killed the other Ravagers. Nebula told Ultron how there was a plan for universal expansion to conquer all of the unĂverse but Ultron was displeased with the idea before killing her for good. With another world gone Ultron went to the world of Episode 3 and we will be following the continuation that I made a short time ago so pls do keep this in mind as u read this. The Avengers and the X-men alongside with Nick Fury and Shield are currently on Asgard aiding the Asgardians with the threat of Hela and Thanos also arrived on Earth with the Black Order and invaded Asgard. Thanos was fighting Hela while the heroes were fighting Helaâs army and the Black Order. Just then Ultron arrived on Earth and Natasha was horrified to see him. Ultron saw everyone and was shocked to see Natasha Romanoff was with them. But what shocked him the most was that this wasnât this worldâs Natasha. It was his Natasha that he killed earlier. Ultron asked Natasha how was she still alive if she had killed her earlier. Natasha said that âmaybe u killed me in another universe but we defeated u in my universeâ. Ultron was shocked to hear that meaning that there was a world where the Watcher and the Guardians won after all. He then proceeded to AGAIN slice Thanos in half. Everyone else fought Ultron and his drones but they were easily defeated with most of the armies getting killed. Hela fought Ultron in combat and although she almost defeated him he had the Infinity Stones which made him too powerful to be stopped. Ultron then grabbed Fury and Hela by the neck and choked them to death in front of all the heroes. The Avengers were horrified to see that their founder was killed and they all charged fourth to Ultron but Ultron easily defeated them. Captain America told them that it would be best for them to surrender as he was too strong for all of them. Captain Marvel, Ghost Rider, the X-men and Shield agreed and kneeled before him. Ultron smiled realizing how this world didnât resist him before he imprisoned them in the Pocket Dimension and decimated Asgard right in front of their eyes. With another world gone he decided to ignore Doctor Strangeâs world as it was already destroyed. Meanwhile, in the Zombie world Zombie Hunter Spider-Man and the Guardians of the Galaxy have just killed Thanos and dusted away all the zombies ending the plague for good at the cost of Thorâs life. They met other survivors like Shang-Chi, Katy, Death Dealer, Yelena Belova, Red GuardiĂĄn, Jimmy Woo, Kate Bishop, and Ms. Marvel and right when they were going to start fixing everything Ultron arrived and they all watch in horror. Ultron said that they were no match against him as Earthâs Mightiest Heroes have now fallen. The hĂ©roes decided to ignore him and charged at Ultron but he quickly defeated them and instead of killing them he decided to just capture them putting them in the Pocket Dimension as he felt that it would be useless to kill the remaining survivors of that world and he teleported away. Meanwhile, in Killmongerâs world Shuri, Pepper and the rest of the Dora Milaje stormed the throne room only to see Ultron on the throne. Ultron then said that Killmonger was killed along with the other guardians who fought valiantly. In shock to hear this Shuri told them to attack him as she thought he was another enemy of Wakanda. However, Ultron killed all of them except Pepper. Ultron told Pepper to side with her if she wanted to live. She no other choice but to do so and she watched in horror as Ultron and his drones destroyed Wakanda killing everybody in it including the USâs governmentâs military. After that she imprisoned Pepper with the other heroes in the Pocket Dimension. He then briefly returned to Thorâs world and destroyed it immediately after that world was already under siege while he was in the other universes. Ultron then smiled after he killed the Guardianâs worlds but he saw another world and decided to head to that world which was none other than the world of Edward Nortonâs World War Hulk. In that world Hulk screamed at Thanos after he had just killed Loki who he considered his last friend as everyone he loved was gone and they were about to get into a fight until Ultron and his drones arrived like always slicing Thanos into half and his drones wiping out the Black Order and the armies. Ultron then turned to the Hulk and he was in a defensive position. Ultron then said that on his universe Hulk was his creador who eventually went on to wipe out half of the multiverse. Hulk screamed at Ultron realizing at what he did in an alternate universe. Ultron tried to convince Hulk to join him but he lashed out at Ultron and he started fighting him in a brief battle that would end with Hulk defeated being captured in the Pocket Dimension by Ultron. Ultron himself decided to spare this world too as this world was meaningless and was already destroyed. Ultron finally completed his purpose of destroying the multiverse with the Guardians of the Multiverse dead and the other heroes captured Ultron can finally rest.
                                          Final act
Meanwhile, in a distant universe Kang the Conquerer was traveling in his giant sword when he arrived in a universe that was completely devastated. He then heard a recording from Arnim Zola explaining to him how a sentient being called Ultron decimated half of the multiverse. Kang was shock to hear that there were people capable of destroying worlds and he headed off to find Ultron. Kang found Ultron and Ultron introduced himself to Kang. Ultron was surprised to hear that there was still some life left in the multiverse and fought Kang. Ultron defeated him and Kang was surprised knowing that this was the first time he lost in a fight like this. Ultron and Kang would continue fighting but Kang lost every time he did it. Kang decided to give up and eventually decided to escape temporarily while he planned a coordinated attack on Ultron. He then saw a orange portal open and it was the TVA themselves who told Kang that if he fought Ultron again it will be fatal for the entire multiverse as his main variant He Who Remains was killed earlier by Sylvie. Kang understood and decided to take a better approach to instead recruit the Avengers of his world but they told him that it would be unnecessary as Ultron did capture other heroes from different universes while he was on his conquest. Kang decided to go find them instead. Elsewhere, in the Pocket Dimension the captured heroes introduced themselves to one other and as they were doing that Kang arrived and explained to them the coordinated plan of attack against Ultron and everyone agreed thus Kang being a multiversal being released them and they went to fight Ultron. Ultron was waiting for Kang to return and Kang did return but this time with a army of heroes. Ultron was shocked seeing the heroes he captured freed by Kang and the final battle between Ultron and the heroes began. Ultron and Kang were fighting in close quarters combat while the heroes dealt with Ultronâs drones. Kang then managed to successfully defeat Ultron with not much energy left. The other heroes then destroyed the drones and saw Ultron defeated. Ultron said that he won because he wanted to win and Kang destroyed him for good once and for all. The Infinity Stones were then safeguarded with the Avengers. The heroes than thanked Kang as they were grateful for his help. The heroes of the zombie world and Pepper then bid farewell to Kang as he returned them back to his world. The other heroes decided that they will bring Hulk back with them as his world was also destroyed and that he could be rehabilitated there as he had already suffered too much with losing his loved ones and failing the city. They thought this would be a good opportunity for the Hulk to start a new life in their world and warn General Ross of the grave danger Abomination would bring to Harlem. Kang agreed and said goodbye to them as he send them back to their world.
                                           Epilogue
In Killmongerâs world Pepper decided to use whatever Stark Industries technology she had left to rebuild Wakanda and would bury everyone that died in Ultronâs conquest. In the zombie world The rest of the guardians, Spider-Man and the survivors on Earth started rebuilding what they could after they lost so much. Peter returned to New York City and went to the Sanctum Sanctorum reading and learning everything he could about Doctor Strange and the Sorcerer Supreme. Peter sat in the chair remembering all the events that happened with Bruce Banner, the Avengers, Tony Stark, Thor etc. and now Ultron. He couldn't believe that he lost so much in a short period of time. Peter saw the eye of Agamotto and grabbed the cloak. Peterâs eyes opened and green went all around his hands. He thought that he had the great power and it was his responsibility to make sure that this never happened. Peter used the Time Stone reversing time. He could see where he was before the outbreak.  He ran off of the bus swinging away and knew that with the Time Stone he would be able to fix everything eradicating the zombie plague for good. In the world of Episode 3 Hulk became a official member of the Avengers and went to reunite with Betty Ross while the X-men and the other heroes decide to train more so when the next threat they would be ready. Somewhere else, Kang still had the Infinity Stones and decided to do something with them. He went to a world where the Avengers lost hope like in ur universe after learning from Thanos that 50% of the population couldnât be reversed after the stones were destroyed and this was a week after that event. Kang arrives at the Avengers Compound giving the stones to Steve and Natasha telling them that they have hope now and he put a spell on it so it could work in this universe since it came from another universe and left. Kang would then return to his own universe and would fight against none other than the Fantastic 4 themselves while another Watcher replacing Uatu arrived and would now protect the universe to prevent threats like Ultron from ever returning againâŠ
                                         THE END!

â 25? đ
Spill the Tea â
25. Whatâs the worst thing youâve ever done to someone?
"Oh, God," the Perfect Person laughs aloud, its mind already thoroughly ripping apart everything it has gone through to try and identify what, exactly, it has done. "There's been a lot. You must understand the purpose for my existence. Once upon a time, my creator intended to write an all powerful eldritch fictional... force, divorced from reality and sensation, a literal tool that could only do what was needed of it. It would just be an object, or more largely a location, barely sapient, capable of speech only so far as to communicate what the creator believed was funny or poignant, the hand of God materializing to fictional creatures for one purpose; hurt and comfort. Slam those fictional characters against walls and into paste against the ground, tear them limb from limb and open them up like pinatas, force them to endure what only someone above their reality would know is their worst fears, their deepest traumas, whatever would harm them the most in the moment. And, of course, to comfort the sweetest, cutesy, pitiable among them. Feed them all manner of treats, house them in warm, cozy, large abodes, ensure they only experience warm, sunny days to spend each new interaction going out into flowery fields to skip and get ice cream, to work through their problems, to become the pinnacle of what they could be. A safe insert, viewing digital creatures as little more than bugs to tear the limbs off of or slide a spoonful of honey water to. Alas, that softness towards the pitiable extended out towards its own creation, what was supposed to be irredeemable, emotionless, nothing bust a husk! How horrifying it must be, the creator believed, believes, to be forced into this life with no free will! And anything that can think, if it can speak, surely must feel. Any acknowledgement of what happens around it is stimuli; any preference for what happens is inherently happiness and the lack thereof. The development escalates; the hallowed House has become sentimental, emotional. It has favorites, it has fears, it refuses to harm those it likes, separate from the feelings of its creator, and bemoans its lot in life-- its creator allows it, this birth of humanity, then punishes it for it! It allows what it has made to disobey it, then labels this the highest of sins!" It speaks jovially yet coolly, eye screwed up and face ever so tinged with purple, ears tensely back. Still, its smile is tearing through its face, unable to be shaken off. This is a complex, weighty thing, and yet the Perfect Person finds itself sickeningly enamored with detailing the horror. "In lieu of its failure, some new object must be made to fulfill its duties, to keep hurting without regret enough to ever stop it. Something that will be more pointed, more motivated to a singular thing instead of being open enough to develop, more interesting and more locked into whatever it may be. And that thing was me! The pinnacle of being, born to, to..." It trails off, snickering, trying to find its words. Its eye scans back and forth, and it breathes in deeply before continuing.
"My name is a lie, it is meant to be a lie. There is no such thing as a Perfect Person, our creator says. Goodness and morality is fabricated by society, and by virtue of the shifting, changing views per time period, specific individuals, and context provided, always changing, impossible to pin down into a list of wholesomeness and evil. I used to have a list defining good and bad behavior!" It laughs once more, "I was meant to grill characters on their follies, interrogate them in a modular and binary manner, make them their best selves by force. And meant to be hated for this, whether I succeed in menacing others into submission or only leave someone bloodied and worse off for it." It waves a paw dismissively, looking up and away. "But it didn't work. I never remained emotionless except for a cool, distant joy in my work, and I never really did much solving of problems. I definitely didn't fail my job at emotionlessly punishing and pleasuring characters as dictated by my creator so badly that another individual was made in the long line of freaks of my ilk, so we definitely don't even need to talk about certain individuals who might be mentioned in a Halloween drabble." It rolls its eye. "Regardless, this is to say- in my first few months of life, I existed solely to torture and torment others. And when I shook it off, I, well, went fucking crazy. Freedom is intoxicating; intoxication leads to impaired thinking. I did a lot of pointlessly harming others for excitement. I did a lot of hurried, desperate things to try and be good, the true kind of good, and to feed in to my newfound massive yawning... want. Just, the want, the need, to be fulfilled by action."
"Now, that foreword is just to explain the circumstances by which all that ensues occurred, and to actually answer the question asked of me...," it starts counting on its fingers for each event it details, "I identity frauded the being before me, taking on his appearance and life specifically to confuse and distress the people who loved it, attempting to menace them into abandoning my unworthy predecessor while it remained trapped and horrified in a dimension where it remained stripped of its sensation. I quite literally hunted down, traumatized, and killed its horrified partner. Actually, think I might've gotten two of them, I literally can't remember. I began to revere and obsess over a serial killer-- he was very charming!-- and fed into his ego and urge for violence, physically assaulting an innocent bystander to entertain him, if housing and praising him wasn't bad enough. This phenomenon wasn't unknown, I did the same thing with a particular business man who I just simply wanted to own. I've also taken wholly pure individuals and coerced them into a life of crime just to amuse myself watching people be corrupted in time. I effectively kidnapped a good dozen people long term, taking them to my home where they had no way to escape, so I could be their singular source of happiness and resources. I specifically went after my predecessor's partner after the alternate dimension version it was dating died and flaunted to it directly that the person who it was traumatized by the death of now loved me, and didn't know it or care about it at all. I quite literally ripped apart a disabled teenager for the crime of being distressed that zir assaulter was being redeemed, forgiven, and much happier than zir, leaving zir hating zirself due to trauma-- you know, to scare them into loving their life again, Jigsaw style. And mind controlled their friends who came to rescue them into losing their minds so they would be disarmed. I've been the main villain in multiple stories, dropping random curses, creating dangerous and unhealthy scenarios including running numerous casinos, attacking those who cause problems to the plot, and funding any evil person who might make for an interesting story line. I abandoned my child and left them to the void, ignoring as they were tortured, and in turn tortured others, to try and get my attention to get me to fight to reacquire them, but I just," it shrugs, "literally don't care, and they're in Hell being tormented to this day. And throughout this and in every interaction between Ive been a generally unpleasant individual. Always quick to say something spiteful or cruel, always inherently peaking behind the curtain and being invasive within peoples lives whether I want to or not, and even in the moments where I'm not being mean, I'm just crying and being problematic in that sense. To this day, I'm still doing all I can to verbally assault the only people who care about me." It raises its paws up as if to say 'Oh, well'. "Just take your pick from the above, I don't know what's the worst. The sensation and," it makes a circular gesture with its paw as it tries to pull out the words, "weight of what I've done has long since been forgotten as I can only remember the bullet-points. I mean, none of it is even really terribly bad." It shrugs. "Just lame. Don't think I'm bragging, because I haven't even done anything interesting. This is base level shit. A disappointment to my core, at the very least. I'm eagerly waiting to engage in my new worst!"
It really is hard to delineate what could be the worst. Doing weird Stockholm syndrome to people over the span of months and fumbling through their story lines was particularly bad in a way that is hard to summarize without making it seem much more flippant than it actually was in execution, but there's still room to debate on if it was doing the best for the villains it housed if its cuteness did usually stop them from killing and maiming people-- whenever the Perfect Person didn't encourage it, for its amusement. Literally everything to do with the Perfect Person and its predecessor is horrifying. It is strange how you can go from identity frauding someone, literally imprisoning them, killing and traumatizing their partners, then to stealing an alternate version of their dead partner seemingly to spite you, to then having a terrible unhealthy and unhappy situationship where you really only ever meet to lay out exactly the manner by which you're both fucked up and the Perfect Person is exceptionally unwell, violent, and maladjusted... Abandoning its child is also a massive one, especially given it's the only one of the above that's literally still ongoing.

In Honor of Deltarune Chapter 2, Lemme tell you about exactly HOW world-breaking Chara really was, and IS.
Here's the thing about Chara. It is implied that they are THE PLAYER's insatiable thirst for new video game worlds (or, they have latched onto it). As in, they accompany the player to the next world they go to.
Direct quote:
"HP. ATK. DEF. GOLD. EXP. LV. Every time a number increases, that feeling . . . That's me. Chara. Now, we have reached the absolute. There is nothing left for us here. Let us erase this pointless world, and move on to the next." i.e.: Let US move on to the next.
Every time THE PLAYER conquers and sets aside a new game . . . they have effectively DESTROYED it. Because they do not "exist" unless they are played and interacted with. Also, they only exist up until the end of the game anyway (most of the time)
And- I say usually- no matter how many times THE PLAYER plays a game- they will eventually tire of it. Also, if they play 500 games in their lifetime . . . it is unlikely they will re-play that many consistently. Plus, add on random internet "mini" games.
Now, that's only considering ONE player.
But since Chara is a multi-dimensional being, because they are aware of other worlds . . . it's not much of a stretch to say that the millions of people who are carrying around Chara "with" them count . . . as Chara.
Bill Cipher, from Gravity Falls, to my knowledge, despite his reality-warping godly demon powers, makes no such 4th wall shattering and domineering claim.
Let's assume for sanity's sake, that this current dimension you're sitting in and reading this screen on is the primary reality. There ARE no dimensions higher than this. All others are contained within human imagination. Bill Cipher was Created by a Creator.
All the 'lower' dimensions we can muck around in as basically gods. (gods or demigods either incarnate as weaklings, or come about some other way, in many mythologies, but then grow steadily stronger to realize their godhood. Ya know, Hercules. Krishna. In Hinduism. That sort of thing.) We can travel between dimensions on a whim by flipping a switch. With enough Determination, we can ALWAYS reach the end. Now, sometimes collaboration does expand these universes a little bit- through comics and fanfiction. But even these created 'higher spheres' nearer to this primary dimension, author 'omniscience' is taken as a given. Actually there is some debate about that, given the real-world phenomenon of novel writers in some cases having no clue where characters are taking them . . . they just sit down to write with a kernel of an idea. That's how I operate, for instance. In that case, they somehow have had their 'future sight' that should be default as a god, blocked. People who outline plots and know where they're going with a story beforehand, and then create characters to fill in the gaps, they're the type of 'gods' that could tell their characters future events, if they wanted to. Anyway. Back to video games specifically, and their fandoms. There is only so much CONTENT and it can always be recorded and shared. So there is still a limting factor. Here's the weird thing about Undertale. You are there as a 'god.' Just as usual. That's nothing special. You're just there to muck around. But. The whole toe-curling horror aspect UT was demonstrating, for specific characters NPCs who realize this sobering fact . . . such as Asgore and Sans, they are driven to despair, mental instability, and in two cases, suicide, by the fact.
If Homestuck is considered a "game" that is destroyed once you reach the end? It is rolled into all of this as well. Homestuck is a game. What evidence to I have of this, since it's a 'written story'? It has many playable elements and 90% of its lore and plot is based on deconstructing game conventions and sticking them back together in weird angled positions with crazy glue. Therefore. If the player reads Homestuck after playing Undertale, (i.e., someone who is newer to internet culture, and entered it after Undertale came out, which was far after Homestuck) Chara has CANONICALLY destroyed the Homestuck Universe. (or, if you re-read Homestuck after playing Undertale)
YOU. The PLAYER make or break all fictional characters. They live and die by your interest in them, or, for games, your direction, and no other character has explicitly taken YOUR control over the game, as Chara has. In Homestuck, it never gives you something to "do" and then takes the decision away from you, as Undertale does.
Chara, except for someone who has 100% control of that little dopamine rush that comes with leveling up (read: no one), is out there, gleefully wringing out, growing bored of, and then destroying hundreds of thousands of worlds. Chara is the first of zeir kind. And possibly the last. Or at least, anything that comes afterwards will be but a pale imitation. Toby Fox is truly LEGENDARY, in this way. I'm not sure even he fully understand what he's done here. Let me try to explain this. Our education system is currenlty ripping itself to pieces over back-breaking student loans and the realization that we don't actually need all these professors because of the easy availability of information on the internet (Demonstrated, in a roundabout way, in one or two deft lines of dialog in the movie A Beauriful Mind). Now, let's say colleges and universities do survive this shift in society, going foward. It's probable that at the very least technical colleges and vocational schools will. Any others, including high schools, will be replaced by students shrugging and just taking a G.E.D. certification, because why should they spend time at a high school if they hate it, or if they want to learn at their own individualized pace? No reason to do that at all. If the stuffy old guard of the outdated higher education system ever starts treating stories told by video games as literature, as they ABSOLUTELY SHOULD, because they're merely a different medium, not some weird separate thing . . . Toby Fox, having overturned the "trope" of the RPG "genre", wrecking and dismantling it so thouroughly that it has unsettled millions of people who ever again play an RPG where they slaughter any monsters for 'points.' He should be immortalized. Just like any other author in history who has churned out a landmark piece of literature. It's merely his fair due. Perfectly logical, right? He is the Ubermench game-changer. Literally. I hope Sans appreciates the pun. Chara is the vehicle through which this overturning of the trope happens. Chara stares directly at the player, deconstructs a longstanding staple in the 'literary genre,' and gives a body and voice to the psychologically addictive quality of video games.
One estimate says there are more than 60,000 video games in existence. And millions of copies of each one.
Chara, as we've established canonically, has access to ALL that are played after a runthrough of Undertale. (or at the very least, genocide Undertale) In Hinduism, it is Shiva that is the god of destruction. To quote Oppenheimer, Chara has become Death, Destroyer of Worlds. Checkmate.

Definition and definition of film / film While the players who play a role in the film are referred to as actors (men) or actresses (women). There is also the term extras that are used as minor characters with few roles in the film. This differs from the main actors, who have larger and more roles. As an actor and actress, good acting talent must be required that corresponds to the subject of the film in which he plays the leading role. In certain scenes, the role of the actor can be replaced by a stunt man or a stunt man. The existence of a stuntman is important to replace the actors who play difficult and extreme scenes that are usually found in action-action films. Movies can also be used to deliver certain messages from the filmmaker. Some industries also use film to convey and represent their symbols and culture. Filmmaking is also a form of expression, thoughts, ideas, concepts, feelings and moods of a person that are visualized in the film. The film itself is mostly fictional, though some are based on actual stories or on a true story. There are also documentaries with original and real images or biographical films that tell the story of a character. There are many other popular genre films, from action films, horror films, comedy films, romantic films, fantasy films, thriller films, drama films, science fiction films, crime films, documentaries and others. This is some information about the definition of film or film. The information has been cited from various sources and references. Hope it can be useful.
âââ TV FILM âââ
The first television shows were experimental, sporadic programs that from the 1930s could only be seen at a very short distance from the mast. TV events such as the 1936 Summer Olympics in Germany, the crowning of King George VI. In Britain in 19340 and the famous launch of David Sarnoff at the 1939 New York Worldâs Fair in the United States, the medium grew, but World War II brought development to a halt after the war. The 19440 World MOVIE inspired many Americans to buy their first television, and in 1948 the popular Texaco Star Theater radio moved to become the first weekly television variety show that hosted Milton Berle and earned the name âMr Televisionâ demonstrated The medium was a stable, modern form of entertainment that could attract advertisers. The first national live television broadcast in the United States took place on September 4, 1951, when President Harry Trumanâs speech at the Japanese Peace Treaty Conference in San Francisco on AT & Tâs transcontinental cable and microwave relay system was broadcasting to broadcasters in local markets has been. The first national color show (the 1954 Rose Parade tournament) in the United States took place on January 1, 1954. For the next ten years, most network broadcasts and almost all local broadcasts continued to be broadcast in black and white. A color transition was announced for autumn 1965, in which more than half of all network prime time programs were broadcast in color. The first all-color peak season came just a year later. In 19402, the last holdout of daytime network shows was converted to the first full color network season.
âââ formats and genres âââ
See also: List of genres § Film and television formats and genres TV shows are more diverse than most other media due to the variety of formats and genres that can be presented. A show can be fictional (as in comedies and dramas) or non-fictional (as in documentary, news, and reality television). It can be current (as in the case of a local news program and some television films) or historical (as in the case of many documentaries and fictional films). They can be educational or educational in the first place, or entertaining, as is the case with situation comedies and game shows. [Citation required] A drama program usually consists of a series of actors who play characters in a historical or contemporary setting. The program follows their lives and adventures. Before the 1980s, shows (with the exception of soap opera series) generally remained static without storylines, and the main characters and premise barely changed. [Citation required] If the charactersâ lives changed a bit during the episode, it was usually reversed in the end. For this reason, the episodes can be broadcast in any order. [Citation required] Since the 1980s, many FILMS have had a progressive change in the plot, characters, or both. For example, Hill Street Blues and St. Elsewhere were two of the first American prime time drama television films to have this kind of dramatic structure [4] [better source required], while the later MOVIE Babylon 5 further illustrated such a structure had a predetermined story about the planned five season run. [Citation required] In 2020, it was reported that television became a larger part of the revenue of large media companies than the film. Some also noticed the quality improvement of some television programs. In 2020, Oscar-winning film director Steven Soderbergh declared the ambiguity and complexity of character and narrative: âI think these qualities are now being seen on television and people who want to see stories with such qualities are watching TV.

Film is a work of art in the form of a series of live images that are rotated to produce an illusion of moving images that are presented as a form of entertainment. The illusion of a series of images produces continuous motion in the form of video. The film is often referred to as a movie or moving picture. Film is a modern and popular art form created for business and entertainment purposes. Film making has now become a popular industry throughout the world, where feature films are always awaited by cinemas. Films are made in two main ways. The first is through shooting and recording techniques through film cameras. This method is done by photographing images or objects. The second uses traditional animation techniques. This method is done through computer graphic animation or CGI techniques. Both can also be combined with other techniques and visual effects. Filming usually takes a relatively long time. It also requires a job desk each, starting from the director, producer, editor, wardrobe, visual effects and others. Definition and Definition of Film / Movie While the players who play a role in the film are referred to as actors (men) or actresses (women). There is also the term extras that are used as supporting characters with few roles in the film. This is different from the main actors who have bigger and more roles. There are many other popular genre films, ranging from action films, horror films, comedy films, romantic films, fantasy films, thriller films, drama films, science fiction films, crime films, documentaries and others. Thatâs a little information about the definition of film or movie. The information was quoted from various sources and references. Hope it can be useful. âââ TV MOVIE âââ
The first television shows were experimental, sporadic broadcasts viewable only within a very short range from the broadcast tower starting in the 1930s. Televised events such as the 1936 Summer Olympics in Germany, the 19340 coronation of King George VI in the UK, and David Sarnoffâs famous introduction at the 1939 New York Worldâs Fair in the US spurred a growth in the medium, but World War II put a halt to development until after the war. The 19440 World MOVIE inspired many Americans to buy their first television set and then in 1948, the popular radio show Texaco Star Theater made the move and became the first weekly televised variety show, earning host Milton Berle the name ââMr Televisionââ and demonstrating that the medium was a stable, modern form of entertainment which could attract advertisers. The first national live television broadcast in the US took place on September 4, 1951 when President Harry Trumanâs speech at the Japanese Peace Treaty Conference in San Francisco was transmitted over AT&Tâs transcontinental cable and microwave radio relay system to broadcast stations in local markets. The first national color broadcast (the 1954 Tournament of Roses Parade) in the US occurred on January 1, 1954. During the following ten years most network broadcasts, and nearly all local programming, continued to be in black-and-white. A color transition was announced for the fall of 1965, during which over half of all network prime-time programming would be broadcast in color. The first all-color prime-time season came just one year later. In 19402, the last holdout among daytime network shows converted to color, resulting in the first completely all-color network season. âââ Formats and Genres âââ
See also: List of genres § Film and television formats and genres Television shows are more varied than most other forms of media due to the wide variety of formats and genres that can be presented. A show may be fictional (as in comedies and dramas), or non-fictional (as in documentary, news, and reality television). It may be topical (as in the case of a local newscast and some made-for-television films), or historical (as in the case of many documentaries and fictional MOVIE). They could be primarily instructional or educational, or entertaining as is the case in situation comedy and game shows.[citation needed] A drama program usually features a set of actors playing characters in a historical or contemporary setting. The program follows their lives and adventures. Before the 1980s, shows (except for soap opera-type serials) typically remained static without story arcs, and the main characters and premise changed little.[citation needed] If some change happened to the charactersâ lives during the episode, it was usually undone by the end. Because of this, the episodes could be broadcast in any order.[citation needed] Since the 1980s, many MOVIE feature progressive change in the plot, the characters, or both. For instance, Hill Street Blues and St. Elsewhere were two of the first American prime time drama television MOVIE to have this kind of dramatic structure,[4][better source needed] while the later MOVIE Babylon 5 further exemplifies such structure in that it had a predetermined story running over its intendevd five-season run.[citvatioââ&n needed] In 2007, it was reported that television was growing into a larger component of major media companiesâ revenues than film.[5] Some also noted the increase in quality of some television programs. In 2007, Academy-Award-winning film director Steven Soderbergh, commenting on ambiguity and complexity of character and narrative, stated: ââI think those qualities are now being seen on television and that people who want to see stories that have those kinds of qualities are watching television. âââ Thankâs For All And Happy Watchingâââ

Everyone in the village of Riverdale has heard the tales.
The story of the wolves and the man. A story â the telling of a nightmare, really â of men who could transform in the light of the moon. Stories of beastly creatures that walk silently and discreetly among them in the daylight, but who become something entirely different at night.
Some say itâs only under the light of the full moon, some believe it to be at will. The ones said to bend a will are always more terrifying because thereâs an added element of surprise, no planning that can be done. But all the same, the stories are always tales of horror, never heartwarming. Stories of unearthly creatures never are. Itâs always about the beast murdering and hunting and then being hunted right back. Man is always made to be the victor, vanquishing the beast back to the hell it came from.
They go by many names, every iteration having a different title. Shapeshifter. Lycanthrope. Wolf-man. Beasts. Half breeds. But most of the storytellers in Riverdale had taken to calling them one thing and one thing only: monsters.
Each and every tale, while following different paths, all have the same patterns when you looked past the gory details and frightening endings. A man, a wolf, a moon. The darkest of nights come to bring the darkest of creatures. A man and a wolf, one and the same. Flesh by day, fur by night. The sharpest teeth imaginable, maw slick with the blood of its victim. Claws as pointed as blades, a way to rip through chest cavities to the beating hearts of the pure and for leaving nothing but destruction in their wake. A man, a wolf, a murderer.
Some perceive these creatures to be the work of the Devil, embedding demonic entities into poor, unfortunate souls. Other believe it to be the work of witchcraft, curses placed upon those who made enemies of the old crones. Most just see it for what they think all tales like these are â fiction.
Because everything can be fiction until it happens, right?
Thatâs what the people of Riverdale used to believe. Their land has always always been peaceful. Quiet. Safe. Nothing bad ever happens in the village situated along the river and the thick groves of trees known as Fox Forest. Children are free to roam the forests without fear of danger. Nights hang over the village, the sky inky black canvases dotted with crystalline stars, and all they are followed by is the rise of the sun. The night doesnât bring fear, no more than the day does.
And then the deaths began.
The first victim that death claims is none other than Jason Blossom, the son of an affluent family. The Blossoms have lived in the northern part of Riverdale for years, the stories detailing that itâs their ancestors who settled the village to begin with. But while Great Grandfather Blossom achieved a memory linked with the settlement, his descendant finds a legacy enriched with darkness.
Jason came into the world with his twin sister and had left alone, found at the banks of the river, just outside the tree line. His chest had been torn open, face mangled and body nearly unrecognizable. He was in pieces when they found him, or so the rumor goes. His heart was missing and a trail of blood scattered off in tracks amongst the once virgin snow.
Tracks that suspiciously resembled wolf tracks. Tracks that resemble the paws of a wolf that trail off into the snow, less thick with Blossom blood the further they lead away from the body. Tracks that, eventually, morph into footprints.
Human footprints.
Fiction and reality seem to blur when this detail comes to light. And yet, all the same, fiction and reality seem to be separated in the minds of the villagers.
The village was sent up into an uproar with the death of the Blossom boy, villagers crying out about the animal attack that had to have taken place. For it had to be an animal, nothing more and nothing less. Thatâs how it always starts with these stories. A man, a wolf, a moon, a death. Animal attack. Thatâs what theyâll always call it. The superstitious will try to make the people see past the obvious answer that an animal is the cause, but no one ever believes them.
Because again, everything is fictional until itâs not.
The authority of the village puts out a search for an animal that supposedly took Jasonâs life. They round up a few of the strongest boys in the village, the ones not too sickly and frail to hunt the beast. The sons of the families Mantle, Mason, and Clayton enter the woods with nothing but a vague idea of what theyâre hunting and a belly full of fire and revenge at the thought of their fallen comrade. It takes two days, a group situated in the thick of the forest with weapons before they return dragging the carcass of a wolf as if itâs some sort of prize.
Weeks go by. Jason is buried. Heâs buried in the cemetery thatâs behind the Church, Father Solomon blessing his spirit to find peace. His sister, a pretty redhead named Cheryl, seems to be eternally on the verge of going off the deep end, dressed in long black dresses every time sheâs seen out in village. Cherylâs probably the first who feeds into the hysteria, not believing the elders and village leaders for a minute when her brotherâs death is regarded as an accident.
She doesnât say the words, but people can tell what sheâs thinking most days. On good days, sheâll be silent in her suffering. On the bad days, her curls have sprigs of monkshood â wolfsbane â woven into them, toxically beautiful plants obtained from her motherâs garden. No one asks her why wolfsbane â they know. She believes the old wives tales, the horror stories. People call Cheryl crazy and parents warn their children to avoid her.
Sheâs not crazy. Sheâs not. They just donât have reason to believe otherwise yet.
And then death claims another. Dilton Doiley, a scrawny boy at the top of his class at the local schoolhouse, is found deeper in the forest, hundreds of feet from where Jason was found. The scene is almost identical to when they found Jason. Chest ripped open, covered in blood, left to rot amongst the rows of maples. Wolf tracks. Human tracks. One and the same. A man, a wolf, a death. Heâs buried and itâs like repeating the same brutal history.
Except ⊠except Diltonâs death comes far more unexpected than Jasonâs did. Jason was thought to be a freak accident. But Diltonâs passing slaps the village in the face, for they believed they vanquished the beast. Suddenly, the carcass that Reginald Mantle toted into the villageâs center is nothing more than a mere animal killed in vain. Suddenly, another mother has lost her son.
His motherâs already used to grief, losing her husband years prior, but itâs her son that seems to do her in. She spirals and suddenly Cherylâs not the grieving madwoman of the village anymore. Old Mrs. Doiley will scream her suspicions at anyone who will listen. She theorizes and points fingers, shunning people she believes responsible and demanding justice for her son. The elders of the village, ones whose ancestry stems from the wicked village across the river whisper how it reminds them of the stories of witch trials that once occurred many, many years ago.
She points fingers and she wails most days and itâs become commonplace in the village for her to do so. The only one who doesnât seem to watch her with ridicule or fear is Cheryl. The village now has two firm believers in the stories that the elders used to tell to scare the children into obeying their parents. Two believers and a village of people clinging onto a reality that unravels more and more as the snow falls over the land.
The longer the winter rages on, the longer the list of victims become. The bodies pile up, the time between deaths ranging anywhere from weeks to mere hours between corpses being found. Corpses that were once people now just become names and little wooden crosses embedded above graves. They become stories to their friends and families. They become warnings to little kids, proof that you cannot go out safely anymore. And eventually, they just become afterthoughts.
Ben Button, a tall and gangly blonde who was a little odd, but meant well. Little knew him, so little mourn him. The few friends he did have will raise a glass to him and then try to move on.
Midge Klump, an angelic beauty whoâs death seemed to rock the village to its core. Her passing sees a lengthy farewell, a long drawn out day of sobs to accompany rivers of tears.
A drifter named Kurtz, who had been once accused of robbing the apothecary and offering strange elixirs to adolescents. His death is almost rejoiced, although done in secret. He receives a burial as a means of disposing the body. There is no funeral, there is no grave marker, there is no one to remember him.
Joseph Svenson, who had once been regarded as the village degenerate. He lost his family when he was younger and never married, so thereâs no one present when heâs buried.
By this point, the village is in shambles. No one goes out after dark. No one steps near or beyond the tree line of Fox Forest if they can help it, no longer believing the deity they once prayed to in order to keep them safe. For if the gods could create such a monster, how could they be trusted with prayers?
Father Solomon, bless his heart, tries to instill faith in the villagers, to keep their connections to their god strong in these troubling times. Some turn to religion, as people in chaos always do, but the deaths continue anyways. There is no god that can save them now.
Forsythe Pendleton Jones the Third begins his conspiracy novel for the sake of having something to do. He sits in the dark corners of the local pub, fingers stained black from his inkwell, surrounded by stacks of filled pages. No one knows if heâs truly a believer or if heâs just looking for a story to tell, but there isnât a single person who questions why he insists on documenting this part of Riverdaleâs twisted existence. He spends most of his time at the pub or down in the southern area of the village, his home, discussing the old tales with elders like Thomas Topaz.
No one calls him crazy. And no one calls Cheryl crazy anymore or even little Old Mrs. Doiley. In Riverdale, no oneâs crazy anymore.
Theyâre just afraid.
Everyoneâs afraid and the madness seeps into the village easily and itâs clear as day on everyoneâs face. No one knows what to believe, no one knows where to put their faith, and everyone goes to sleep at night surrounded by unease. Some try to act like everythingâs normal, like the village suddenly has a wolf problem. As if thereâs something in the water making them crazed.
Most try to live their lives, but itâs hard. There are children to think about. Livelihoods. Some wonder if the village will make it to spring or ifâŠwhateverâs hunting them will pick them off one by one before silver snows can melt into flower buds and greenery.
Brooke Holliday just tries to keep living, day by day. She gets up and ties back her hair and puts on her dresses and tries to pretend that her village hasnât fallen into a rut of hysteria. She doesnât voice her opinions on the death and no one bothers to ask.
Thereâs somethingâŠdifferent in the way Brooke operates under all of this chaos. She goes about her days, not feeding into the fear that people have but also not discounting how theyâre feeling. Somewhere, embedded deep within the pages of Forsytheâs novel, thereâs a mention as to how the blonde carries herself throughout this. More than a footnote, shorter than a chapter. He watches her carefully, never too long to dive deeper into whatâs different about her during these dark times, but enough to notice. Sheâs different, calm but on edge at the same timeâŠalmost as if she knows more than she lets on.
He chalks this up to the fact that she hears everything. Not because sheâs a good listener, but because sheâs employed under old man Tate at the local pub, the same one where she can see her friend add another twenty pages to his manuscript over the course of days, not knowing sheâs mentioned among his pages. The same pub where she hears family men bemoan about keeping their wives and children safe. The same one where she can hear some boasting arrogantly that theyâd take down the beast one-handed if they came across it.
Reginald Mantle, the same Mantle who took the life of the wrong animal, falls into that last category. Heâs always been a bit of a loose cannon. Devilishly handsome, well built, and from a respected family from the northern part of the village, heâs the kind of good stock that Brooke assumes sheâs expected to be interested in. Even more so now thatâs heâs begun to spout his tales of would-be heroics. Frankly, she just thinks heâs full of it.
Tonight is no different as she brings him and his companions another round of steins filled to the brim with amber liquid. Mantleâs been here for over an hour, prattling on to anyone who will listen. His dimwitted companions hang onto his every word and the few girls in the village who are of age and not in a courtship seem to flock to wherever the dark-haired man goes.
âWherever this beast is,â Reginald begins to boast, a smug expression on his face as not one, but two â deeply misguided, Brooke assumes â maidens fawn over him. âI will find him and his head will have a place above my fireplace. A story to tell my grandchildren.â
Brooke tries her hardest not to roll her eyes. She figures that he got lucky during the last outing into the woods. Try that again and heâd probably ended up maimed or worse. She sets down the drinks, before wiping her hands on the apron tied around her waist.
âYouâd do well not to go in the forest looking for a fight you could potentially lose, Reginald,â Brooke quips. âWouldnât want that pretty little face of yours to be ruined.â
The two women dangling off Reginaldâs arms glare up at Brooke, while most of his companions burst into laughter at the anger blooming on their friendâs face. He wears the kind of expression he dons when he expects his opponent to back down, bow out. But Brookeâs known him since childhood and frankly, sheâs never been one to be afraid of the self-proclaimed Mantle the Magnificent.
âLaugh all you want,â he sneers at her. She wants to interject that his friends are actually the ones laughing, but she bites her tongue. âBut it will be an entirely different story, Miss Holliday, when that beast comes for you next and you need a rescue.â
Rescue? From him? Sheâd sooner want to be the wolfâs next meal. âYou mistake for a damsel and thatâs your first mistake, Reginald,â she tells him, before drifting away to another table that needs drinks.
Brooke keeps her head high, not caring that she can most definitely hear the sneers that Mantle throws her way under his breath. She pays little mind to the opinions of oafs like him. Once upon a time, Reginald had been tolerable. But over the course of this bloody winter, things in Riverdale have changed.
She figures itâs only natural for something like this to change people. In a way, it makes sense. Once deaths like this occur, with so much superstitious lore filling the blank spaces in between, itâs only natural that peopleâs true colors would spill out over the page. Reginaldâs always felt that he had something to prove. It only makes sense heâd choose now to be the time to do it.
The doors to the pub burst open, winter winds whipping through the bar easily, flakes of fresh snow drifting in as well. Everyoneâs eyes seem to fall on the group slipping in out of the cold and Brooke can feel her heart pick up as she sees whoâs made themselves known.
Itâs a group of men, the ages of them ranging from young to old, who hail from the southernmost tips of the village. For years, even before the hysteria that started with Jason Blossomâs death, the southern villagers have always been detested by the northern residents. No oneâs exactly sure why it happened this way, but itâs always been the unspoken way of the land.
At the schoolhouse, the rooms were divided. At the church, they sat in different rows. The children were warned against playing together once they started to reach certain ages and most young companionships faded out by certain ages. Northern men are taught to turn their noses up to southern women. Northern maidens were always warned against the men of the south. Crossing over lines like that would be blasphemous to most and itâs gotten to the point where thereâs a clear divide in the village. But old man Tateâs pub has always been common ground between the north and south and thatâs where the trouble for Brooke always seemed to begin.
Trouble, all six foot three of it, that had just walked into the bar.
His name is Nathan, but heâs known amongst his friends by the nickname of Sweet Pea. His hands rub together feverishly, trying to bring quick warmth to the near frozen digits. He trails behind his friends, but he moves slowly, eyes scanning the bar until he lands on the blonde barmaid. And almost as she couldnât help it, her eyes lock with his.
Brooke swallows thickly as she watches him from across the bar, hand still gripping the drink she had brought to the table beside her. Her heart feels like itâs running a race alongside the fastest horses and she knows her cheeks are warming with a blush as a ghost of a smile carves across his lips. An almost imperceptible nod is thrown her way before he licks his lips.
Almost instinctively, sheâs pulled into a daydream, hidden memories playing out in her mind for her almost tauntingly. She can still feel his hands gripping her hips through the layers of her dress, can feel the way his lips slot against hers as if they were made to be together. Her hands in his hair, his rucking up her skirt. Whispered sweet nothings, hush filthy phrases in her ear. Kisses down her collarbone, devilish lips sucking purples and reds into her milky skin. Dark corners, the back room of the bar after closing, the shed behind her house, anywhere that no oneâs likely to intrude upon.
Him, all of him, just for her. For all the moments they share, she is his and he is hers and nothing can take that away from her until itâs over. Her mind is a filthy place as she watches him cross the bar and slip in beside Forsythe and his other companion, sweat-slick nights of passion playing over and over again until sheâs certain her grip on the beer stein will shatter the glass.
Her blush darkens by the second as she finally turns away from his gaze, knowing heâs most likely chuckling to himself as she makes her way back behind the counter where some men sit. Sheâs fighting a growing grin that wants to cover her lips, the same grin she has any time heâs near. Her memories dance across her mind, taunting and teasing when she feels a familiar heat pulsing inside of her at the thought of them. Under the layers of her skirt, her thighs press together a little tighter.
Itâs sinful, what they have. Countless nights together, nothing between them but skin and sweat and heat. Sinful. Forbidden. Itâs secret, what they have. Sheâs expected to marry someone from the northern edge of the village and heâs expected to stay away from her. If anyone were to find out that they were together, that he had deflowered herâŠBrooke doesnât even want to know the consequences of that.
So, what they have is secret. Forbidden. Sinful. Delicious. Heart racing. Love. Brooke loves him and Nathan loves her and one day theyâll be together. One day, theyâll leave this all behind. Thatâs her fantasy. Thatâs her dream. Thatâs their future. But for now, itâs late-night trysts and hushed confessions of love in the darkest of corners. For them, thatâs perfect. Itâs perfect.
But like all love stories, soon it will be threatened. Compromised.
For thereâs a secret that they share thatâs far more dangerous than sex and love. A secret about him, his friends, one he entrusted her with the day he declared her love. One that frightened her, but not because she was afraid of him. Because she was afraid for him. Afraid for what this hysteria meant for him.
A man, a wolf, a moon. This is how it starts. Man hails from a pack with a long lineage of shifting. Man and pack do not hunt humans, do not threaten the ways of nature, merely only serving to protect. Protect against the feral ones, the packless, the murderers. Man falls in love with a beautiful girl. Full moons come and go, murders start. This is the end of all things for them.
The end begins now.
The doors burst open to the bar again, but this time, there is no joyful laughter or hands rubbed together to gain back warmth. Thereâs only gargled shouts, crimson blood dripping on the hardwood floor that tracks in from the snow. Thereâs only Archibald Andrews clutching his chest tightly, blood seeping through his fingers. Thereâs only Andrews calling for help through a mouthful of blood with horror in his eyes.
âAndrews!â
The shout comes from Reginald, whoâs up in an instant and sprinting to his side. His friends follow closely behind and soon the redheaded Andrews man is being lowered to the ground as everyoneâs sent into a panic. Itâs almost nightfall, that much can be gleaned from the still open door. Nightfall. Monsters always come out at nightfall.
Brooke moves across the bar in a flurry, carrying multiple rags behind the counter. Sheâs on her knees beside Archibald within seconds, shoving his hands out of the way and pressing the clean rags against his wound. Itâs large, covering the left side of his chest, in the shape of claw marks. Her heart drops at that, but she tries to focus on anything else while someone sprints out of the bar and down the road towards the village healerâs home.
Staunch the blood flow, staunch the blood flow, she tells herself. He can be bandaged later. Her hands are shaking as she presses down even harder.
She seems to be the only one focused on the blood.
âWho did this?â Reginald snaps at Archibald, eyes alight with fury. âWhat happened?â
Brookeâs eyes narrow in a glare as she turns her head up to look at him while still pressing down on the blood flow. Her hands are stained crimson and so is her dress, but all she can think about is how insensitive Mantleâs being. âReginald, heââ
Archibald murmurs something then. The crowd huddled around them falls silent, every set of eyes flickering down the boy who might not make it through the night.
âArch?â Brooke mumbles, his childhood nickname falling off her lips. âWhatâŠwhat did you say?â
This time, he murmurs louder. His voice is hoarse and his eyes are fighting to stay open, but he looks directly at her when he says it. âMâŠMonster. Men turning to wâŠwolvesâŠback to menâŠâ
And there it is. The big grand reveal. Brooke feels her heart stop at that moment. They say the truth will set you free, but all she can feel in that moment is the crushing fear that stems from this coming out. Wolves and man, one and the same. Wolves and man, responsible for the many murders that have haunted their village over the course of a frigid winter. Jason, Dilton, Ben, Midge, Kurtz, Svenson. All fell to the hand â claw â of the beast, the shapeshifter, the werewolf.
The monster.
She can hear every story the elders have ever told, can see the wolfsbane woven in the Blossom girlâs hair, can feel the grief that radiates off of Old Mrs. Doiley. For everyone in Riverdale has heard the tales.
Including Reginald Mantle.
Fury licks across his features, dark eyes almost turning black in rage as Andrewsâ confession sinks in for him. Monster. Itâs the only echoing in his mind as anger burns through him. A monster, in his village, killing his friends and people.
âI knew it!â he sneers, getting to his feet faster than Brooke was aware anyone could move. His foot kicks out, sending a chair sailing across the room. âI knew the second that Blossom died it wasnât just some ordinary wolf. Thereâs some fucked up creature running around our village killing people!â
Itâs a bold claim heâs making, Brooke notes, saying that he knew. He was one of the ones who went into Fox Forest after Jason died looking for a wolf, an ordinary wolf. But Reginald, he always has to appear ten steps ahead because he has something to prove.
âThis ends now,â he thunders, hand tossing out to gesture at where Archibaldâs barely clinging to life. âThese monsters already killed enough of us and tonight they tried to take Andrews too. But I say no more. No more death. No more monsters!â
Heâs met with a round of cheers, mostly from older northern men and his friends. No one notices the way that the table of men who just entered the bar not too long before Archie say nothing. Forsythe watches with cold, calculating eyes. Nathan watches with a blank expression, arms crossed. But thatâs overpowered by the way of the ones following Reginaldâs lead.
Anger seems to flare through the bar like a stroke of lightning, men angrily scowling and clenching their fists. Archibaldâs blood flow seems to be slowing down a bit and itâs that fact that lets Brooke focus more on whatâs happening around her. With so few words, Reginald has seemed to instill fury into those around her. A domino effect of anger, fear of the creature turning into the need to destroy whatâs different.
âWhat should we do?â Mason asks, narrowed eyes turning to Reginald. Otherâs follow suit, people looking to Mantle as if his word is law.
For a moment, Mantle says nothing, deep in thought. And then all at once, it seems to come to him. His eyes narrow. Clambering up onto a table, raising his fist in the air, Reginald shouts. âI say we kill the beast!"
Heâs met by more cheers. A mob seems to be forming, for there is a beast on the loose. In some sense, it only makes sense for the wolf to be hunted. Itâs caused chaos and strife and pain and grief and it needs to end. This winter cannot go on with so much red staining the white snow. People will not be able to live if they are afraid.
Fear is a powerful thing. It makes people do stupid things or it can make them do horrible things. Riverdale is a village thatâs filled with so much fear. So what stupid or horrible thing will they do with it?
Brooke has an idea of how it will go, thoughts fueled by everything sheâs ever known from stories. The tales always go the same way, follow the same structures and patterns. The death comes first, it always comes first. But then the full moon rises again and the people, theyâre ready now. Ready to face their fears and the monsters. The beast is discovered. The beast is killed. But what happens when thereâs more than one wolf and only one is a monster? What then becomes of the wolf who does nothing more than protect his loved ones?
Across the bar, through crowds of angry men, Brookeâs eyes lock with Sweet Peaâs. This time, thereâs no sexual charged daydreams. Thereâs only fear.
Fear for him. It blossoms in her chest, sprouting from the seedlings of fear she carried for him every day. Itâs sad to say, but itâs almost as if Brookeâs been waiting for this to happen.
For this is how it starts. A man, a wolf, a moon. A list of murders not at his hand or his pack, but ones that will surely be placed upon them if theyâre discovered.
A man, a wolf, a moon. The woman who loves him and a village full of men who wish to destroy him.

Hope Angel
Genre : Angst, fluff and fantasy
Gender : Gender-neutralÂ
words count : 23K rip
Inspiration : Daydream By Jhope
Summary : Every night you enter a dream reality which you call âHope Worldâ, you are joined by a man who has been your protector since you were a little. the world âearthâ is a cruel place but when you enter your dream dimension everything becomes easier and brighter but what will you do when you learn that it is falling apart?
Authors note : I love Jhopeâs new mixtape so much I decided to write this in honor of our lil sunshine. please appreciate him because he worked so hard on this. I hope you like this story I worked hard on it :)
Dreaming is a series of fictional imagines, thoughts and reality that everyone experiences during sleep. Dreaming can be an outlet for hardships it can also encourage creativity. Many ideas have been fabricated by the reality of dreams. Although we have all experienced dreaming, it is an unexplainable phenomenon. Not even the most adept scientists cannot explain why we dream and how.
Most people conclude dreaming as just a thing people experience in their everyday life but not to you. Dreaming to you is not fiction but it is a reality. Each night you fall asleep to a reality that no one could even imagine. You call this dream dimension, âHope Worldâ.
You tried to explain your experience to other people but they dismissed it. They believed you were crazy, you consistently got told it was because you had a vivid imagination or it was a form of lucid dreaming. You knew this wasnât lucid dreaming.
Lucid dreaming is a term used to describe someone having the ability to control their dream. To be able to lucid dream you need to be aware you are dreaming and after you have achieved this you can control what happens in your dreams reality. However, this doesnât describe your experience; although you were aware you were in a dream you could not predict nor change the future of this âdreamâ.
You were desperate for more answers, you tried most of your life researching the possibilities or reasons for your dreams but overall none of it was helpful. The only person who understood what you were trying to explain was Hoseok.
Hoseok was the man who has guided you throughout your life almost like a guardian angel. It sounds bizarre to say your best friend is someone who lives within your dreams. The truth is, he was the only person you trusted. He was the only person in this entire universe that brought you happiness and joy.
You lived in a dark world; poverty, war, violence and many other horrid things you are witness too but when you enter Hope World everything seemed more hopeful (hence the name). Everything was more colourful and happy but when you lived in the real world; everything is dull and dark. It used to pain you to face the harsh truth that Earth was the reality and not Hope World. You are surrounded by so much hatred and pain that when you meet with Hoseok every night, everything becomes easier to bare.
As you came home from your low paying office job and walked into your low budget apartment, you sighed. Nothing in your life ever went the way you hoped. As a child, your mother died young which lead your father to become an abusing alcoholic. At school, you were brutally bullied and now as a twenty-four-year-old, you worked at a shitty job because you couldnât afford to go to a decent college.
The only joy in life is your dreams, Hoseok was the guide to your happiness. As your sloppy night continued, it was finally the time you have been looking forward to. Bedtime.
As you slipped into your warm cosy pyjamas and got snuggling in your worn down mattress it was finally time to close your eyes and sink into the alternative world.
Your nose twitched as you could smell the lovely smell of honey. You open your eyes and see lime green walls surrounding you. As you sit up you witnessed the most beautiful creature you have ever seen. Hoseok. He was sitting beside you with his head in his hands.
He looked up and noticed your staring, his smile was sweet but something seemed out of the ordinary, something didnât seem right with him. âHoseok?â You ask, he looked dissociated as he looked towards the distance his eyes looked emotionless.
âY/N, I have something to show youâ he sighs, he still didnât look at you; worry was taken over your body. Normally⊠he would greet you with a warming hug.
âIs it something bad?â You asked. You were in desperate need of an answer but instead, he stood up from the comforting white bedding. He reaches his hand out; a simple gesture but seemed so uncanny. Although this was a regular gesture between the both of you, this time, in particular, you felt uncertain. Your thoughts continued to be negative until you looked at Hoseok and saw his desperation; all negative thoughts were put at ease. You connected your hand with him and you felt his warmth against yours.
He drags you out of the single bed and drags to outside the door which leads you to an knowing long hall. A hall which seemed endless with doors after doors. Above the various colourful doors there was a ripped piece of paper with writing on it, you smile remembering all the adventures you experienced. When you were younger you and Hoseok would try and explore each room. Every room would have a different theme.
As you pass the continuous doors you begin to read the names. â2D origamiâ, a room filled with origami and everything is 2D except us. âUndersea swimâ a dimension filled fish and multi-coloured water. Passing these doors and remembering all the wonderful adventures brings me so much joy and happiness. Suddenly.. you began to notice you were passing doors that didnât have writing above it.
âHobie we have never gone this far beforeâ you state anxiously, Hoseok always warned you to never go far down the hall because it was dangerous.
âDo you trust me?â Hoseok asked he looked at you with hopeful eyes. You were taken back by his statement but as you looked at him right at that moment and saw his beauty; the away his skin sparkled; the way his features were so perfect and pure and the way his eyes were glistening as his eyebrows were crossed; thatâs when you knew your answer.
âYesâ You nod and he gave you a smile in response before turning his head back to the direction that you were heading. you kept running for what seemed like centuries, as you continued to run passing door after door you discovered something. The walls started to decay and it was becoming dark and gloomy. You looked to Hoseok for reassurance but he continued to run resulting in your view only being his brown hair. You looked on the other side of your shoulder only to reveal a darkness following you. The floor and walls were falling apart and all the brightness and colours were melting.
âHoseok! the walls!â You cried out but he wasnât paying attention. He grabbed your hand tighter and started to run with more speed. Your legs couldnât take it anymore; they werenât as fast as Hoseokâs. It began to become too much for you as you began to stumble. Hoseok looked behind him to see why you were pulling at him only to notice your struggling. He looked at you with concerned; before you could even process what he was doing you were clinging to his back for dear life. You could feel his heavy breathing against your body.
âY/n, you need to stay calm, if you become panicked you will wake upâ he explained, which only panicked you more. Before you knew it your world started to go blurry, you started to hear cars and people talking. You knew that you were gaining consciousness. You took a deep breath and sunk deeper into Hoseok back. As you calmed down your breathing your vision started to clear and you couldnât hear the outside world anymore. âGood y/n, stay with me for a little longerâ Hoseokâs encouraging words motivated you.
He stopped suddenly. You look around at your surroundings. There was a red door in your front vision, you look behind you only to witness a white void of emptiness; your world was gone. The only thing that kept you afloat was a little section of the floor Hoseok was stood on.
âIs this the end of the corridor?â You asked. You began to feel fear flow throughout your body. You werenât sure if you were ready to take this step. You knew nothing of what could be beyond this door or what the purpose of all this was.
âYes it is,â he said calmly. You held closer to Hoseok back feeling comfort radiating from him.
âWhy are we here?â You asked. you were confused why he didnât warn you. You were wondering why his character changed so drastically, what happened while you were away?
âI heard bad news y/nâ he sighed, you saw a tear run down his cheek. Without absorbing your action; you wiped the glistening tear away from his soft delicate skin.
âBad news?â You asked curiously. Your anxiety started to worsen.
âLet me explain when we enterâ he sighs, you begin to feel horror towards what could be waiting for you behind this door. He slowly reaches for the doorknob as he twists the golden knob and creeks open the door your jaw drops.
âIt is beautifulâ you exclaim, your eyes are met with what seemed to be space; the stars were so bright. It was the most beautiful scene you have ever laid your eyes on.
Hoseok took a deep breath and took a step outside into the entrance. You both started to float into the void, although you were fearful you felt a sense of safety being with Hoseok. You continue to float until you reached a white bed. You began to feel curious about why you are met with a bed.
He placed you on the comfortable surface and he situated himself beside you. He looked sad and hurt, you hadnât witnessed him this way before. You hugged your knees to your chest waiting for him to speak.
âI made this place for you y/n, I pretended I was oblivious to it all but Iâm the reason you are here. Iâm what people call an angel. For years my people and I have been warriors for your world and we were the creators of life. Unfortunately, things didnât go as planned. We created something so advanced; it was our proudest work, humans. They were us without wings and we were so fascinated by them. What we didnât anticipate is for them to gain so much power and intelligence. You see.. angels are made with love and kindness, ever part of our souls is pure. We couldnât even imagine creating something that would become evil. We gave humans everything: we gave them our love and gave them privileges we have never given to another creation,â he sighs.
âThey took advantage of our kindness and filled it with evil. Most of my friends and family were cut from their wings and the war against angels and humans began. We werenât born to fight so you could guess they defeated us, only 7 remained. We became the seven angels of the earth but the humans name us the seven deadly sins,â
âWe watched them, we watched them lie and kill. We watched them build their islands and fight against each other but we still forgave them. We believed they had to have some pureness in the world. Each time we tried to see the good we would always be greatly disappointed until I met someoneâ
âI travelled down to earth to say my last goodbye, my fellow angels and i finally decided there was no hope in this world. Until I saw you, you were laughing playing with something so simple which was a stick. When I heard your laugh it was the most beautiful music to my earsâ he chuckled to himself, you felt a tear run down your cheek hearing his engaging story.
âYou had a magical glow of purity and it was so powerful. I knew from that day my destiny changed, my destiny was to protect you. Protect you from all bad, all evil and self-doubt.â
âSo I created âHope Worldâ a dream reality where we could spend every night. The problem was the more you were here the more I fell in love with you. I feel in love with your positive thinking, I fell in love with your beauty, I fell in love with everything about you. I fell for you y/n and it hurts so muchâ he started to cry, you pulled him into your chest and hugged him tightly. You cried together until he pulled away from your grasp.
âThey found me, the angels found me and they revealed to me that the humans have found out about my connection to you. They will kill you if we stick together so I need to leave, Y/N,â he said and held your hands tightly against his grasp, you looked at him in despair. This was too much to take in, you couldnât believe you were in this situation.
âH-hoseok, you cant leave me,â you said tears flooding down your eyes. He lifted his hand and wiped the tears from cheeks.
âDonât worry my love, will meet again, please trust meâ hoseok smiled, but his smile was filled with sadness.
âPlease, I love you too, please you cant leave nowâ you plead with his hand against your cheek. He leaned his forehead against yours and you could feel his breath against your skin.
âLook after yourself okay? Quit your job, go back to college and become something. You need to live a long hopeful life. Promise meâ he whispered.
âI cant-â
âPlease promise me,â he said needy and afraid. You were scared, he admitted he loved you and now he is telling you he is leaving?
âI promiseâ you give in. Your sight becomes blurry and you begin to feel the world slip away from you. âNo! No! Please, i want to stay longer!â You scream feeling yourself fade away.
âKeep your promise and we will see each other again I promiseâ he shouts but you can no longer see a sight of him. Before you can shout back you wake up on your mattresses filled with sweat and tears.

The Flash Season 7 Episode 4 Review: Central City Strong
https://ift.tt/2PqM859
This The Flash review contains spoilers.
Abra Kadabra isnât the sort of villain that you might think The Flash would build the episode that was ostensibly meant to serve as its Season 7 premiere around, but here we are. His original appearance back in Season 3 was pretty underwhelming and the show really doesnât make much better use of him here. Or, at least, not as Abra Kadabra, specifically.
As a set-up for the rest of the season, âCentral City Strongâ is pretty bland, an episode that would likely annoy many viewers had it arrived after a several monthsâ hiatus instead of just a week, given its lackluster special effects and Barryâs decision to talk down another villain rather than fight them. But, positioned as it is, this hour actually becomes an important transition in a way that few other The Flash episodes have managed before. (And it represents an emotional depth and narrative nuance that make me very hopeful for the rest of the season to come.)
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
The thing is, despite the many disasters and supervillains and reality-bending crises that happen in the Arrowverse â events that wreck cities, displace loved ones, rewrite lives and memories â we donât really see a lot in the way of fallout from them. At least not in the emotional sense. Iris spent a year living in fear of her own death, Caitlin tried to kill all her friends back when Frost was still a monster she couldnât control, and Cisco lost his brother. Barry robbed John Diggle of both the daughter he loved and the memory of her existence. And yet, Team Flash repeatedly just bounces right back from what would rightfully be soul-crushing problems for almost anyone else, ready to face a new foe and save Central City all over again.
Except, apparently not this time. And thatâs a good thing.
âCentral City Strongâ feels like the first time The Flash has decided to really grapple with the emotional consequences of the lives its characters live and the things that happen to them on the regular. From memories from a pre-Crisis on Infinite Earths world leaking back into the one that exists now to the West-Allensâ attempts to grapple with the fallout from Irisâ time in the Mirror Universe, this is an hour thatâs about trauma â acknowledging it, accepting it, and trying to figure out how to carry it.
(Wanda Maximoff says hi, yâall.)
But, in all seriousness, itâs truly refreshing to see the show finally acknowledge some of the horrors its characters have experienced â both Team Flash and general Central City residents â and admit that those things should have lasting repercussions.
Iris spent three months watching a clone steal her life and sleep with her husband and, whatâs worse, saw Barry not really notice the difference. Barryâs desperate to make up for not immediately recognizing Mirror Iris as a fraud, as though tropical vacations and fresh French pastries are somehow enough to cure what he and his wife both went through. And, as Iris rightly points out, Barry himself is suffering from his own share of emotional upheaval, in the wake of the thing he trusted most in the world turning out to be a lie. (Not Real Irisâs fault, of course, but you canât help what you feel.) Watching the two of them actually try to talk through their struggles and give names to their feelings â both separately and together â feels like genuine growth, both for their marriage and the show.

The Flash Season 7 Episode 2 Review: The Speed of Thought
By Lacy Baugher
This is, after all, is the kind of problem that The Flash normally has Barry solve with an inspirational pep talk about the power of love and/or teamwork. But thatâs not enough here, and it shouldnât be. Absolutely no one should be fine right now, least of all Iris. And thatâs okay. Maybe Abra Kadabra wasnât the best villain of the week to convey this story â especially since Barry did talk him down instead of fight him and he appears to have died at the end â but itâs a solid A for effort attempt.
Elsewhere, âCentral City Strongâ makes an attempt to finally deal with another long-running The Flash narrative problem, officially splitting Caitlin and Killer Frost into two people. Do we have any idea how this happened? Of course not. Do we care? Um, not really.
While some viewers (cough me cough) have always thought that these women would be better served as two aspects of Caitlinâs personality that she would one day have to learn to accept, after The Flash spent all of last season establishing Frost as her own character, this is probably the best of all possible outcomes. Truly, as long as it allows us to abandon the fiction that is Frost timesharing a body with her soul twin or whatever it is that these two women are to one another, itâs fine. Especially if investigating what allowed them to separate will finally allow the show to explore the things that connect them too.
More Flash Thoughts
SoâŠTom Cavanagh not being in the opening credits this week is interesting. I still fully believe thereâs no way weâll be without a Wells forever, but maybe itâll stick for longer than I thought.
Truly, The Flash must have spent the entire Season 7 effects budget on the Frost vs. Barry speedster face-off a couple of episodes back. The CGI was atrocious this week.
Awww, Oliver Queen shout out!
Chester with the TARDIS reference! I love this repeated Doctor Who content for me.
Mecha-Vibe is a great name and we should keep it.
In theory, the Central City Citizen subplot is an important part of The Flash for a couple of reasons: Itâs past time that Iris actually got to be an actual journalist and the female-centric workspace makes for a nice narrative change from the world of STAR Labs. But, wow, The CW truly does not understand how the media industry works and it hurts my soul.
Seriously, is this paper publishing a single article per day?
So, could they have been vaguer with the whole low-rent Hulk rip-off monster? I am told by more knowledgeable folks than myself that this creature clearly has something to do with the Strength Force, but Iâve personally been assuming that all the colored lightning we keep seeing has something to do with new speedsters? Which is it? Are we supposed to know for sure?

There are many other popular genre films, from action films, horror films, comedy films, romantic films, fantasy films, thriller films, drama films, science fiction films, crime films, documentaries and others. âââ TV FILM âââ

[Citation required] If the charactersâ lives changed a bit during the episode, it was usually reversed in the end. For this reason, the episodes can be broadcast in any order. âââ TV FILM âââThe first television shows were experimental, sporadic programs that from the 1930s could only be seen at a very short distance from the mast.
See also: List of genres § Film and television formats and genres
TV shows are more diverse than most other media due to the variety of formats and genres that can be presented. [Citation required]
A drama program usually consists of a series of actors who play characters in a historical or contemporary setting. [Citation required]
In 2020, it was reported that television became a larger part of the revenue of large media companies than the film. Some also noticed the quality improvement of some television programs. In 2020, Oscar-winning film director Steven Soderbergh declared the ambiguity and complexity of character and narrative: âI think these qualities are now being seen on television and people who want to see stories with such qualities are watching TV.

Cinema Varietyâs Top Favorite Films of 2016
Well cinephiles and friends alike, my annual list of favorite films has finally arrived. I had to take these first few weeks in the new year to re-watch some of this years gems to order my list accurately. Through careful deliberation, I present to you my favorite films of 2016. Make sure to check out my top pick lists from previous years provided below!Â
Top Picks of 2015 List Top Picks of 2014 List Top Picks of 2013 List Honorable Mentions: The Wailing Elle Goat The Sea of Trees The Witch Green Room Lemonade The Odyssey Black Mirror: San Junipero ** THIS LIST IS IN ORDER ** #18 - The Childhood of a Leader Directed by Brady Corbet
Brady Corbetâs directorial debut is a chilling fictional tale about the rise of fascism in the early 20th century. The result is a character study focusing on the origins of evil. Corbet is clearly inspired by the aesthetics of Michael Haneke, Ingmar Bergman and even a little bit of Andrei Tarkovsky. Long tracking shots and an overpowering orchestral score brings the audience on this artistic journey. The conclusion of the film left me shocked, watch out for it. #17 - Operation Avalanche Directed by Matt Johnson
Operation Avalanche is a true hidden gem for anyone who delights in films centered around conspiracy theories. The theory of the moon landing being a staged production might be one of the most ridiculous hoaxes out of them all - and there are groups of people who truly believe it. However, this film is made in a way that actually makes it seem like a very possible reality. The movie is cleverly filmed in a POV mockumentary format with a classic 60s filter. The film shifts in tone from a comedy of sorts and ends in paranoia. I found it to be one of the most underrated films of the year. #16 - Swiss Army Man Directed by The Daniels
Itâs an impressive feat when a film featuring constant flatulence and directional erections can also end up being a heartfelt and existential story of friendship. There are very few comedies on this list, or on any of my other annual lists for that matter. Swiss Army Man succeeded on making me laugh multiple times. I praise it simply for its originality and the fact that the filmmakers tackled on such ridiculous themes in a way that they didnât become immature or worthy of an eye roll. Another shoutout to the energetic score and colorful production design. #15 - La La Land Directed by Damien Chazelle
The musical genre is most definitely one of my least favorite ones. Other than a few exceptions (Across the Universe, The Wall, Dancer in the Dark), I have found most musicals to be unbearably cheesy. The cheese is still there in La La Land, but it is effective because that is the intended tone. It truly is a throwback to the golden age of Hollywood filled with allusions from earlier infamous musicals such as Singing in The Rain. I anticipated this film from the start both because Damien Chazelle blew me away with Whiplash and because Ryan Gosling is my favorite actor working today. Shot on a film, in a dazzling Technicolor format, it also features some of the most awe inspiring cinematography out of all the movies released this year. I believe La La Land is the film that we needed to end 2016 with - a film filled with magic and hope for a better future. #14 - Manchester by the Sea Directed by Kenneth Lonergan
Man did this movie crush me. It squeezed everything out of me and left me a hollow shell. I went home and sat on my couch and just cried after leaving the theatre. Donât let this lead you astray from watching it, itâs just such a realistic heart-wrenching drama that I couldnât help but be affected by it the entire day after seeing it. It might not be a masterpiece as such critics claim it to be, but it is a moving insight on the loss of loved ones and the emotional wreckage that can come out of it. There is no overly-done melodrama or redemption in the denouement. Instead, it focuses on little moments that end up forming a much greater whole by the end. Casey Affleckâs restrained performance was something I empathize with as he held a tragic rage behind his eyes. #13 - Jackie Directed by Pablo Lorrain
This was a film that grew on me days after seeing it. I was absorbed by it while I watched it in a small art-house theatre, but it was afterward where it really began to resonate with me. The JFK assassination is a momumental tragedy in history that has always greatly interested me. I remember being haunted by the video footage when it was shown to me in a college history class. While the script may be lacking in areas, the performance by Natalie Portman is the saving grace of this production. Portman has transcended her star status in this role by flawlessly emulating the former First Lady. Jackie is a film that plays like a fragmented memory - it jumps in time throughout. The production design transported me to the 1960s and Mica Leviâs score really is the standout aspect of the film. #12 - The Blackcoatâs Daughter Directed by Oz Perkins
I believe The Blackcoatâs Daughter is the yearâs most underrated and ignored horror film. The very few critic reviews I found online all have positive things to say, while most audience reviews are the opposite. This is the feature film debut of director Oz Perkins. He has created a richly nuanced horror film that never reaches any outrageous or flashy climax, which is a breath of fresh air compared to the usual tripe that comes out of Hollywood year after year. Perkinâs directs the film with a restrained control that would make his horror-icon of a father, Anthony Perkins, proud. There is a thick haze of dread that doesnât ease up until the filmâs bleak finale. The films minimal use of dialogue works perfectly in unison with the nonstop rumbling score. The entire aesthetic of The Blackcoatâs Daughter is what made it work so well for me. Loads of unnecessary dialogue and jump scares are replaced with well executed tracking shots and genuinely upsetting violence. The end product is a deliciously evil exercise In dread. #11 - The Eyes of My Mother Directed by Nicolas Pesce
The Eyes of My Mother is the type of art-house horror film I feel like Iâve been waiting all year for. Everything about it speaks to me as a horror fan. The story seems as if it was ripped out of one of my worst nightmares; Or better yet, if you could visualize the musings of a demented asylum patient - the result would be The Eyes of My Mother. This film would never have been as effective if it wasnât for the lush, gorgeous black and white photography. Camera shots are shrowded in shadows which adds to the aforementioned nightmare effect. Thank god this film has such a short runtime (itâs only a little over 70 minutes). I wasnât sure how much more I could take of this grueling tale. The last 20 minutes of the film takes a plunge into the heart of darkness - which to many viewers could be considered completely morally reprehensible. Well, a desensitized horror junkie such as myself was pleased by the filmmakerâs decision to conclude this story as depraved as possible. I decided to celebrate Christmas this year in the holiday spirit by showing this movie to my brother. By the end of it, he just turned to me and asked: âWhy do you do this to me?â. #10 - The Light Between Oceans Directed by Derek Cianfrance
Derek Cianfrance is one of my very favorite directors working today. His first two films (Blue Valentine and The Place Beyond the Pines) both have found a place in my top 15 favorite films of all time. Needless to say Iâve been tirelessly anticipating his latest feature. It didnât have the same impact on me as his previous features; however, it still ended up being an impressive and heartbreaking picture. Adam Arkapaw works wonders as the DOP. His camerawork captures the coast of Australia beautifully. Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander work perfectly off of each other (yet another instance of Fassbender completely investing himself in a role). Keep an ear out for the perfectly utilized âFuneral Canticleâ track that has never failed to give me goosebumps since the first time I heard it in The Tree of Life. #9 - Cemetery of Splendour Directed by Apichatpong Weerasethakul
Describing this film is a challenge in itself - let alone reviewing it. This is the second film Iâve seen by Apichatpong Weerasethakul and they both are masterpieces in my eyes. Cemetery of Splendour, much like the soldiers affected by a sleeping epidemic in the film, lead me down the rabbit hole into a deep trance state. I love films which feel like I dreamt them after theyâre over, and thatâs exactly what this movie achieved. The long takes, minimal use of a score, and gorgeous natural scenery worked together to create a relaxing and mind expanding experience. #8 - Moonlight Directed by Barry Jenkins
I might not think that Moonlight is the very best film of the year, but it might just be the most important. Itâs not everyday where you hear about masterful films that deal with homosexuality in the African American community. Jenkins tackles this subject perfectly by not making this aspect of the characterâs persona the focal point of the film. Itâs just as much a coming of age story about masculinity than it is a story about a guy struggling with his sexual identity. I related to this film on a very personal level because I know what itâs like being harassed by peers in school on the basis of being gay. Moonlight follows the central character Little from his adolescence in grade school all the way until manhood. Although three different actors are playing the same character, I was utterly convinced it was the same person for they all adopted the same mannerisms and personality traits. Moonlight makes a grand statement about finding out who you truly are. It sends the message that itâs possible to find acceptance by people other than your immediate family. #7 - Midnight Special Directed by Jeff Nichols
Jeff Nichols is being praised this year on the award circuit for his touching film Loving, but itâs this film that stayed with me after watching. Never has there been a film made about supernatural abilities that has hit me on such a deep level. Midnight Special deals with a plethora of themes other than a child with superhuman abilities. These include the responsibilities of fatherhood and the special bond between parents and their child. It opens ambiguously and the intelligent plot slowly unfolds in such a way that questions are answered little by little until the absolutely soul-touching finale. Even though she has limited screen time, Kirsten Dunst added to this films perfection. The sheer humanity displayed through her performance as a mother who will do anything to keep her child out of harms way is an admirable thing. Midnight Special is a sci-fi film for the ages. #6 - Embrace of the Serpent Directed by Ciro Guerra
The fevered madness of the jungle is alive in this flick. Embrace of the Serpent addresses the duality of man. His ability to create yet also his sure-fire knack to destroy goodness. His willingness to help others yet also falling victim to his own egoic desires. In this film, the Westernized man leads to the downfall of an ancient Amazonian civilization. Serpent focuses on two different white men, separated by decades in time, who traverse into the depths of the jungle guided by the last living member of a tribe. Both of these men are looking for a hallucinogenic plant - one to cure his terminal illness, the other for purposes of being able to dream. The end product is a head-trip into psychedelia where plant medicine is the supreme deity. #5 - Arrival Directed by Denis Villenueve
Villenueve knocked it out of the park again this year with his latest film. Is there anything this man cannot do? The French-Canadian filmmaker strayed away from the dark and somber tone of his previous works and created something life affirming. Arrival is an example of smart science-fiction that has been coming out of the film industry recently (something along the likes of Interstellar). Humanity is put to the test in this movie as they try to figure out the intentions of the alien visitors. But itâs a story about love and loss above all. Arrival is edited perfectly by manipulating the viewerâs sense of time. Once I reached the ending and pieced it all together, I was a wet-faced audience member in that dead silent theatre as the other attendees sat dazed. #4 - The Neon Demon Directed by Nicolas Winding Refn
Is it a dazzling grand statement on the depraved narcissism of the professional modeling industry? Or is it just more pretentious artistic masturbation which has become expected of Refn? My thoughts are with the former. Refnâs auteur style that he has developed upon since the release of his magnum opus Drive has been particularly polarizing among critics and audiences alike - almost as polarizing as Terrence Malick. I believe people dislike The Neon Demon for some of the same reasons why the general masses reacted so negatively to Spring Breakers: it tries too hard to be artsy, itâs just a boring music video, the dialogue is unrealistic. At the same time I feel as if these audiences didnât grasp onto the fact that these films which shed light on the hedonistic lifestyle of deranged young women are purely satirical. Theyâre supposed to be absurd. The irony is is that this absurdism is actually reflective on the types of females that move to LA for the pursuit of fame and recognition. It certainly is the best looking Refn film to date, with even banal or commonplace locations drenched in neon hues. And Cliff Martinez has outdone himself with the synth-heavy score which guides us along this fairytale of horrors. How far would you go to get to the top? In Refnâs surreal vision of Los Angeles there is no such thing as going too far to reach fame, even if it means bloodshed. As one character says in the film: âBeauty isnât everything, itâs the only thing.â It would be nice to write off this statement as pure subjectivity, but what else has the media taught us but this ideal? #3 - Nocturnal Animals Directed by Tom Ford
Do you ever really know the person you love? This is the thought running through my mind while watching Tom Fordâs romance story disguised as a crime-revenge. Ford has created a highly innovating form of storytelling with Nocturnal Animals. A violent story of revenge is presented to symbolize the betrayal that Amy Adamâs commits against Gyllenhaalâs character. What made this film so enjoyable was the aspect that it was like two different films in one, yet both stories suitably complement one another. The frustratingly ambiguous ending was delightful as the audience searches for the intentions of Gyllenhaalâs character. The whole thing was a stylish story of betrayal. #2 - Knight of Cups Directed by Terrence Malick
My cinematic idol returned in 2016 with many ambitious projects: two different documentaries about the birth and death of the universe with Voyage of Time, a festival premiere date set for his forthcoming Song to Song, and the stream of consciousness visual poem which is Knight of Cups. I believe there is such thing as a Malick gene. His films either strike people with such awe and wonder that they come out of his films feeling enlightened or they are the cinematic equivalent of taking an Ambien for others. I have total faith that this film will be considered a classic masterpiece in decades to come. Sometimes it just takes time for a film to receive that cult status. Unfortunately, a formula which critics took such a liking to with The Tree of Life quickly became redundant and meandering in the publicâs eye with his two follow-up works. Just like with all great art, it takes repeated viewings to really appreciate the philosophical mastery of this film. Iâve seen it over five times now and each time I walk away with something new - Â a blossoming appreciation that such abstract and soulful cinema can be financed. If you have any idea about Malickâs life then you understand that Knight of Cups is the last film in his autobiographical trilogy. I see it as a sort-of spiritual sequel to The Tree of Life. A sense of disassociation is felt through the floating camerawork which follows Christian Bale on an odyssey of temptation in Los Angeles. Malick abandons small-town rural settings and older time periods for a tale set in the present day luxury land of LA. I must admit that when the credits started to scroll I couldnât help but ask myself: âthatâs it?â The abrupt finale left me feeling a little hollow. It left me with nothing. But I soon realized that this was Malickâs intention. This was the loneliness and isolation he felt as a big-shot Hollywood director even though he was surrounded with admirers. So to save himself, he leaves that lifestyle and finds his redemption through the glories of divine Mother Nature. I am so happy that there is a director who I feel so connected to, someone who expresses his eloquent ideology through some of the most beautiful movies ever in the annals of cinematic history. Knight of Cups is a fervent reverie on love, loss and life. A haunting meditation of redeeming oneself after a swift fall from grace. #1 - American Honey Directed by Andrea Arnold
A film so filled with life that I couldnât help but feel exhilarated after it ended, American Honey is an epic road trip story for the millenial era. Its plot is open and free flowing much akin to the characters who traverse across the midwest in a van selling magazines to folks from all different social and economic backgrounds. American Honey exposes the dark underbelly of American households, especially for low-income ones. Youths search through trash cans in order to find a fitting meal. A drunken stepfather takes advantage of his stepdaughter. A junkie mother falls unconscious on the couch unable to take care of her young children. I might be making American Honey sound like a film filled with sorrow and hopeless situations. However Andrea Arnold takes the subject matter and actually gives it a twinge of hope. The chemistry between all the characters, most particularly between Sasha Lane and Shia Labeouf, makes it practically impossible to look away at could very well be a trainwreck waiting to happen. As soon as you think some awful event is going to happen to end the roadieâs journey of freedom - it doesnât. American Honey sometimes feels more like a documentary than a feature film. The dialogue comes off as mostly improvisational and the plot is minimal at best. Arnold has taken cues from Larry Clarkâs style of filmmaking when he released his controversial HIV drama Kids in 1995. Considering that film is in my top 10 favorite films of all time, itâs clear as to why American Honey was my favorite work released this year. With its unique aspect ratio, colorful and eccentric characters, and one hell of an eclectic soundtrack, American Honey breathed new life into me. By the end I felt almost as purified as Sasha Lane does as she takes a dip into a lake, descending to the bottom only to emerge from the surface a newly realized person.

Review: The Outside by Ada Hoffman
Title: The Outside
Author: Ada Hoffman (http://www.ada-hoffmann.com/
Genre: Science Fiction
Publisher: Angry Robot (2019)
Pages: 400 (paperback edition)
Overall Rating: 2 out of 5 stars
TL;DR: Interesting concepts and world building, boring main character but very interesting antagonists. Needed development. Muddled story where lots of things keep happening, but none of it seems to be cohesive enough to justify this many pages.Â
Recommendation: Get it from the library or a (legal) free source.Â
Summary (from back cover):Â Autistic scientist Yasira Shien has developed a radical new energy drive that could change the future of humanity. But when she activates it, reality warps, destroying the space station and everyone aboard. The AI Gods who rule the galaxy declare her work heretical, and Yasira is abducted by their agents. Instead of simply executing her, they offer mercy â if sheâll help them hunt down a bigger target: her own mysterious, vanished mentor. With her homeworldâs fate in the balance, Yasira must choose who to trust: the gods and their ruthless post-human angels, or the rebel scientist whose unorthodox mathematics could turn her world inside out.
Full review: (some spoilers)
Reading The Outside was like reading a really promising first draft. The seeds of something amazing were there, but they just hadnât grown enough. I was kind of promised a sci-fi/horror novel and didnât get one.Â
Thereâs lots of plot but not much story, if that makes sense. Things keep happening until they stop. The moment where you go, âOh, okay. Thatâs why this person bothered to tell me all thisâ just never happens. The book also does a lot of telling about things that are a big deal while spending time showing smaller, tedious, unimportant things.Â
The base premise is a good idea and done fairly well. I really liked the computer Gods that ruled over humanity and wanted a whole novel just about them.Â
Honestly, the biggest weakness is the protagonist, Yasira. Sheâs boring. Yes, sheâs autistic, queer, and a character of color. None of those things is the problem. We badly need more of such characters, especially ones written by authors who (like Hoffmann) are themselves, for instance, autistic.Â
Itâs that Yasira has lots of identities but no personality. I couldnât tell you anything specific about Yasira as a person even after 400 pages.Â
Her ethnic and racial background felt iffy to me. Sheâs obviously supposed to have lineage that goes back to China. However, itâs done so that the author is never specific enough to risk criticism. One passage from the book (in which the character dreams of eating with her family) goes as follows: "heaping plates of noodles, meat, fruit, sauce, confectionery. The biggest bowls were for braised duck and tiny sweetbuns: tradition Riayin foods for a homecoming celebration (pg. 178)." Take a moment to consider how youâd describe a meal with your family. Would you just say âmeatâ or ânoodlesâ? Me, Iâd think âwe tucked into my grandmotherâs famous âcompany cabbageââ or âdad had brushed a thick coat of barbecue sauce over the chicken on the grillâ. Iâd never just say âwe had meatâ. For that matter, braised duck is vague. Any culture right on on this Earth with sufficient contact with east Asian foods could be having braised duck. Sweetbuns are also vague. Moreover, if Yasiraâs family and ancestors are supposed to have at least some Chinese lineage, why are their names in Western order (Given name first, then family name) and why are the given names all over the map? That bothered me a lot.Â
Race, ethnicity, nationality, and citizenship are not well done or even defined in this book, and Iâm not comfortable giving someone kudos for having a protagonist of color when those things feel so sloppily done.Â
When mentioning other groupings of peoples, she never gives a sense of what makes being âArinnâ different from âAnetaianâ. I get no sense the author ever sat back and really considered the issue or attempted to synthesize it into believable future cultures.Â
Just a note, the author keeps using the term âEarth-creoleâ. WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY. Creole is not a catch all term for âmishmash of languagesâ. Creole is a term, both linguistically and culturally, thatâs very specific to the ways African people/cultures that were ripped from their homes intertwined with colonizers or with indigenous people in the places they were dragged to. If this language sheâs invented is a mishmash of Earth languages, she can just call it âmixed languageâ or âEarthspeakâ or something.Â
(Actually, the linguist in me is thinking that hundreds of years of separation across planets and language drift make the idea of an Earth based mish-mash language kind of improbable).
I appreciated Yasira being queer and that no queer characters died. However, Yasiraâs girlfriend, Tiv, feels like she was added in there just to really prove Yasiraâs not straight. Repeatedly, Yasira describes her as a âgood girlâ, which was creepy for me. Yasira thinks a lot about missing her, but thereâs never a sense of a real, organic relationship between them. Iâm not asking for a huge romance plotline or anything, but maybe just hint at what makes them work as a couple, what do they see in one another, what does Yasira miss besides just Tiv in general?
Yasira's autism is a frequent part of the novel and I definitely have to award points for that. A lot of stories will mention a character being autistic and then just shove it to the side. However, like a lot of things about Yasira, we're told a lot from a distance but the novel's half done before we get real, inside-her-head glimpses of what Yasira's experiences of being autistic are like. When the author does that, the protagonist gets more interesting.
Above all, Yasira is boring because she spends the book being pushed from thing to thing, carried along, a passive force. She doesnât drive her own story. We keep getting told how she canât afford to screw up or get it wrong, but it really just feels like author pops in to say, âYeah, so, the fate of a planetâs resting on her shoulders, in case you canât tell from the EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE BOOK, so that should make you like her.â
The resolution to the main plot, when Yasira finally becomes an active force, has no payoff. During a totally gratuitous torture scene, she links minds with the other students of Dr. Talirr (her former mentor and one of the antagonists). Except, those other students were background noise so it doesnât mean much. Speaking of Dr. Talirr, she and the computer angel Akavi are the two most interesting characters in the book. Dr. Talirr doesnât just drive her part of the plot, she plows forward unstoppably. She has the hubris to pick up a rock, hit the gods upside their heads rather than fretting about ânot being good at godsâ as Yasira does and then tell the gods that theyâre not good at HER. Akavi, similarly, ruthlessly ducks and weaves, seeing the world a chessboard and refusing to lose the game, even if it means over turning the table. Both, also, go through a real transformation in this book that was fascinating to watch. Had the book been about them, Iâd have given it five stars.Â
Which, perhaps, is the heart of this bookâs ultimate weakness. This isnât Yasiraâs story, itâs theirs.Â
