i think my biggest. not issue but like. hurdle? i have to get over when it comes to kingdom hearts is the disney stuff. i love the og characters and storyline but given the choice i would ditch the disney stuff in a heartbeat. and that's like. not to say i don't like disney stuff. i enjoyed plenty of disney stuff growing up. but i wasn't really a Disney Kid. it was just like "oh i like this movie" and it happened to be disney. and like if i had played kh as a kid i think i would've been more excited about it but as i am now it's like "came for the og story and characters, stayed for the og story and characters. and donald duck is also here i guess"

Yeah, that's right, I caved in.

Basically the exact same show except its established lore and setting is more largely inspired by archive compilations of popular vintage arcade games of the 80s and 90s such as Pac-Man’s Arcade Party, as well as the different takes within the sci-fi / fantasy genre by the likes of Wreck-It Ralph, Tron: Legacy, and Infinity Train.

= BACKGROUND (in a nutshell) 💿 =

In an attempt to save their dying business, C&A developed and manufactured the first hybrid arcade game of its own kind that combined other popular arcade games and home console games with virtual reality. However, just as the company’s luck was turning around, numerous lawsuits from game companies by the likes of Nintendo and families were filed against the company for their product, from apparently “ripping-off” Super Mario Bros. in its entirety to causing many children to either inexplicably fall unconscious or suffer from amnesia after the cabinet’s headset was put on. Just then, as C&A announced they’ll be temporarily recalling the product to fix its issues, a shocking discovery was already made by investigators that would soon bring the company to its demise: the game’s AI had gone rogue, and once a human mind dies from losing one of the games in any way, they are either permanently reincarnated as a personified cartoon character of themselves or just straight up die in real-life depending on the outcome.

"Are there any plans to make a full webcomic out of this?" - Uhhhh, mayyybe? I'm not entirely sure, honestly. While there may be a few side comics and artwork from my head I want to get out sometime, I don't really have much plans for this AU that'll be worth telling a full story right now since I feel there is plenty of things that I've yet to figure out and develop in a matter of time, particularly the setting and characters (especially considering the OG show itself has only 2 episodes out as of writing and I only have mobile apps like ibisPaint X to make this all possible at the moment).

"Can I make fanfics and OCs for this AU?" - Of course! I've seen a lot of incredible things from the community, especially in regards to alternate universes, so you're absolutely more than welcome to share whatever's on your mind as long as your heart's in the right place. I can't really guarantee I'll see every bit of it since I do have some personal biz of mine to take care of at any moment, but I'll be happy to reblog them whenever I get the chance. Just tag me and we all good. :)

"Are there any canon ships in this AU?" - Yes. Yes, there are. Well, only BunnyDoll (Jax x Ragatha) to be specific. HOWEVER, you are free to ship whoever you want here! Showtime (Caine x Pomni), ButtonBlossom (Pomni x Ragatha), it's all okay. The choice is yours, a romantic buffet! (Plus, depending on the quality of my writing, I'm not even planning to dwell too much into it for now, aside from the side comics that will.)

I'd like something similar for Tron except going back to 80's design and the original Tron aesthetic instead of what it became because of Tron Legacy.. except refurbished with modern effects..

rubs my eyes seeing some vagueposts on the dash. tron legacy Is neat and works as a standalone film, but there are a lot of elements that make it a disservice of being an actual “”sequel”” for tron 1982 and its core themes, as legacy’s weaknesses are the result of being a product of the times from people rehashing sci-fi cliches instead of building off the source material And unintentionally perpetuating racism in said cliches

stuff like “it’s a bad idea to have a story focusing on programs exiting the computer even though quorra did it” is valid for lore/worldbuilding concerns and being inconsistent to 1982, but i also think most fans are unaware legacy and quorra’s deal are inherently yellow peril racism in sci-fi 😭😭😭 “we fear this corrupt, advanced alien society and its technology imperializing Us Good White People, however there’s One Good Sexy Alien Lady who’s the exception and can help Our Good White Society, so have the white male lead whisk her away as they escape the evil corrupt alien society beyond saving”

hooooo boy okay, some of this is about the franchise and some of this is about the fandom (which I love with all my heart okay please no one throw rocks at me lol)

90% of program/user ships give me the ick

continuing on the shipping train of thought, I don't actually find the Encom trio (Alan/Lora/Flynn) all that compelling as an ot3. and a lot of it is a personal pet peeve I've come across in a number of fandoms, but honestly most m/m/f ot3s feel like they're just a way for people to focus on the m/m dynamic while patting themselves on the back for "including" the female character instead of sidelining her completely........ even though said female character is rarely if ever a major contributor to the dynamic or a focus of whatever fanwork. but on a less meta side eye note I just find the perceived sexual component of Alan and Flynn's relationship to be the least compelling thing they could've had going on

and I know she's barely brought up in canon outside of Betrayal but uhm Jordan exists??? and perhaps it is an unpopular opinion but I would like to see more of her in things instead of relying on Lora to be the only human woman in the Tron universe

once again I might not be so harsh on Uprising if there was more to it, but taking it for what it is and how much of it exists -- a lot of the episodes were boring filler to me. also I don't like how they drew Tron

actually I don't like how Tron has been drawn in any rendered/animated media with the exception of maybe Kingdom Hearts

I don't think of Rinzler as a standalone character, and he's not at all interesting to me when removed from the fact that he is Tron with the serial numbers filed off. I feel like I've increasingly seen people portraying Rinzler as his own thing and it simply does not work for me. I think the whole point of his character / existence is that he doesn't have thoughts or feelings or any real personality of his own. he's a backflipping blank slate whose only real character moments are when Tron's overwritten personality peeks through

to that end I can't conceive of an ending where Tron or anyone around him would allow him to remain as Rinzler, and I can't imagine that Rinzler's capable of forming an autonomous opinion to not want to be Tron again

the fandom collective spends too much time talking about how hot the live action and animated men are and not enough time talking about how hot the Sirens are. or how hot Yori is especially in the deleted love scene. or how hot Paige is. or

Daft Punk (rightfully) gets a lot of hype for the Legacy soundtrack, but Wendy Carlos's soundtrack for 82 is unfairly slept on. love that those funky robots got to cameo, but we should be giving Carlos just as much credit for her work

for as much as it pains me to say it, I don't think Tron ever would've been a tentpole franchise for Disney even if they had treated it better. and it's mostly because of the sad fact that the general public has never been that into Tron. I see it tossed around a lot that Disney ditched Tron in favor of focusing on Star Wars and Marvel. A New Hope -- an original sci fi movie that had absolutely no brand recognition, so to speak -- made over $400 million in 1977. the original Tron made $50 million in 82. the first Iron Man movie -- which sure had comic fan recognition but was still a very early comic blockbuster -- in 2008 made over $500 million. Legacy made just over $400 million in 2010. and Disney advertised the shit out of Legacy, they didn't set it up to fail. yes it sucks that things like Uprising were dealt a bad hand (a garbage release schedule that lead to poor viewership that definitely killed the show), yes it sucks that capitalism impacts what art gets made, but the fact of the matter is that Tron has always had niche appeal, and niche appeal does not a successful franchise make. and while it'd be nice to live in the universe where Tron blew up, I look at what's become of Star Wars and Marvel and maybe I don't lament it all that much

It takes place in an AU of @proto-actual's Finite States, many thanks to them for reading it and discussing it with me! <3!

I meant to canon review and read the Fortnite comics before I jumped in to writing fanfic, but I needed to write NOW at the time, so I'm considering this a very rough draft that'll need some work to double check that the dialogue fits.

Summary: Ark is startled by an Occupation program that knows more about her past than she'd like and they get into an argument

Ark had settled nicely into her current life working with Siv. Like they had said, it was much different than what she was used to, but as long as she was helping people and making a difference, that's all that mattered to her.

She still enjoyed a good fight and kept up her usual routine of exercises, to make sure that she kept sharp. Despite the odds, she still had the staff she was programmed with, and she planned on keeping it that way.

Living in the lab had taken some getting used to, but she had slowly adjusted to the change of pace. She didn't have the know-how to lead any projects herself, but she lent a hand where she could, especially with moving and lifting things.

At the moment, she was relaxing and listening to the low level chatter and the various machineries. It was one part rest and another part visibly being available if anybody needed a hand. Plus, it was much more pleasant than holing up in her room alone, she had had more than enough of that.

Her calm demeanor was interrupted by a tall Occupation soldier strolling in. She never could get used to how casual they were - and that they rarely posed a real threat to the lab and its people. Yet another difference between here and just about anywhere else.

Ark rested her hand on her baton as he made his way through the lab. He likely wasn't going to cause trouble, but she preferred to be prepared.

Unfortunately for her, he had been sweeping the area with his eyes, and she had caught his attention. Her circuits were different, but there was no mistaking her face. He addressed her in shock, "Mars?!"

At that single word, that cursed name, Ark's circuits ran cold. She glanced around them, trying to figure out who, if anyone, had heard.

She got to her feet and grabbed him by his upper arm and started dragging him towards the back, where there were more private areas.

He protested as they went, sputtering and squawking, but, even though it would be easy for him to break out of her one-handed grip, he didn't even try to do so.

For anybody watching, it was probably a ridiculous sight, as he was over a head taller than her.

When they were out of the lab, Ark fumbled for an unlocked door with her free hand. Once she found one, she opened it and pulled him inside, closing the door behind them.

The room was pitch dark, except for the glow of their circuits, hers blue, and his red.

It took just a moment to get used to the change of lighting, and Ark realized to her horror that they had accidentally ended up in someone else's room. Great, another thing to worry about.

She could think about that later, as for right now, she had an Occupation soldier tilting his head, clearly waiting for her to explain herself.

Ark hissed at him, "Where did you hear that name?"

The Occupation soldier replied, "I was stationed at the detention center for a while. All of the other prisoners came and went, except you. You were always there."

Ark snarled at him, but her tone grew more upset with every word, "That wasn't me, I'm not her, I can't be her!"

He looked down at her with a frown, "I'm sorry." He paused for a moment, before letting his curiosity take over, "You're definitely not her now, how's that even possible? I've never seen that before."

It was Ark's turn to shake her head, "All I know is that a Medic fixed me, but even if I did know, I wouldn't tell an Occupation jerk like you."

He looked hurt, "Hey, I didn't mean to be a jerk."

Ark snorted, "It comes with your occupation. You're not rectified," she let a silent 'unlike I was' hang there for an uncomfortable moment, before continuing, "so you had to choose to join. Which means that you're a jerk."

The soldier scowled and snapped at her, "What makes you think I chose this?"

Ark was slightly taken aback, but her irritation won out over her common sense, "It's obvious, isn't it? You're free to go where you please and do what you want, so you had to have sold yourself out to them."

He glared at her, "You don't know anything about me, so don't even start. I don't want this any more than you do, you've made that clear. I had a choice to make and I've got to stand by it. It was either this or my friends' lives, and I'd choose to save them again every time. Wouldn't you do the same?"

Ark grew silent, not sure how to respond to the glowering soldier, because he was right. She'd sacrifice herself for the people she cared about, even if the end result was terrifying for her.

With the sudden quiet, a muffled voice spoke up from the other side of the door, "Can I go into my room now?"

Ark quickly snapped back without thinking, "No!"

The voice on the other side said a quiet, dejected, "Okay," and there was an unmistakable sound of somebody sliding down the wall and plopping on the floor.

Ark and the Occupation soldier turned their attentions back to each other, looking away from the door. A wide grin played across his face, and he could barely get out a few words before laughing, "Now, who's the jerk?"

She stood there for a moment, looking baffled, but his laughter was infectious and she gave him a light, playful shove, "Hey!"

"'Hey' yourself, now we're even," he smirked at her, pleased that he had managed to turn the tables of the conversation.

He then tilted his head at the door, "Come on, let's get outta here so we both can stop being jerks and hogging somebody else's room." He couldn't resist a playful jab at the bizarre situation.

Ark sighed, "You're right." She opened the door, holding it so that he could follow her.

He gamely trotted after her, unable to resist a bit of light, teasing snark, "Thanks for letting me walk out on my own accord."

Ark dryly replied, "You're welcome."

The soldier laughed in response, and as soon as he cleared the doorway, Dylan, the waiting program scrambled to their feet and darted to the door, quickly closing it and locking it behind them.

Ark glanced at the door and the soldier grinned again, "I guess that's all sorted out. Now, are you gonna let me get on with my business, or are you gonna lock me in a room with you again? Not that I'm complaining, but I'm on the clock and there's gonna be questions if I don't get a move on."

She blinked several times, "Uh, no. Go ahead."

He grinned, "Thanks, I appreciate it." He couldn't resist teasing her again one more time.

A moment passed as they each waited to see if that was the end of their little adventure, after a beat, he broke the silence first, "Well, that's that, I'm guessing that I'll be seeing you around?"

Ark nodded, "Yeah, I'm staying here for now."

He beamed in return, "Good! Hopefully our next conversation will be a little friendlier."

She cracked a smile, "Hopefully."

He dropped his own smile to be more serious for a moment, "Don't worry, I won't tell anyone that you're here. And, I won't speak that other name again, I promise."

Ark gave him a just-as-serious nod, "Thank you, that means a lot to me."

He returned her nod, then turned and walked off to go speak to Siv, giving her a casual wave without looking back.

Ark stood there in stunned silence, gave him enough time to get ahead, and then made her way back to her usual post, hoping that there'd be something to work on or something heavy to lift, she'd been distracted enough as it was, and it appeared that this wouldn't be the last of it.

Please read the whole post before commenting. I’ve never made a public post like this before so bear with me if it seams long-winded.

Recently @hg-aneh has been bombarded with extremely upsetting comments since they confirmed that they do ship Crowley and Muriel.

First off, it is never okay to dog pile on someone who is not already in the wide scale public eye. Calling someone a pedophile because of fictional ships is never okay. Lashing out at someone is not going to help them see your point of view, it automatically puts them on the defense and no one makes any progress either way. If you see someone has commented the same thing you were going to say, don’t. It is a terrible feeling to see 100 notifications and know they will all be people tearing you apart.

Quelin Sepulveda is an adult. Muriel is canonically thousands of years old. They might find solace in Crowley, who I know would deeply care for them. Crowley is a character who fosters curiosity and wonder in other characters. Muriel has that inherently, and it is logical to assume that as Crowley is alone they would naturally come together in some way.

From Muriel’s perspective, Crowley is one of the first people to like them for simply being themselves. He is going to be their first constant in 6000 years that isn’t demeaning or critical. He will introduce them to earth and all the beautiful things within. (Just like he did with Aziraphale.) For the first time they will experience affection compassion; they will be important.

Crowley would have someone who needs and loves him. Muriel is also someone who isn’t critical and would see Crowley for who he really is. Muriel mirrors pre-fall Crowley in so many ways, it would be imposible for him not to care for them. They won’t shut him down like Aziraphale would, it would probably be easier to tell what they want.

Crowley also knows more about earth, heaven, and hell than any other being has except God and The Metatron. He understands the inherent traumas that heaven and hell inflict on everyone. He knows what’s coming. He knows what is at stake.

Throughout their life Muriel has only spoken to people once every 300 years. Yes they take records so they probably know some things, but only from Heaven’s point of view and without context. Most of those they do meet are unkind as they see Muriel as the lowest in their ranks. You can see how nervous they are when Saraqael brings them to speak to Uriel and Micheal about Gabriel’s matchbox. Muriel knows so little about earth that they have to be taught how to drink tea. They do not have any idea how to interact with anyone because they never got the chance to. During the season they are in an entirely new place with new people and they have no experience with any of it, so much so that they are easily manipulated twice. Once about Aziraphale and Crowley’s secret meeting, and again when Crowley gets them to “arrest” him. They don’t have enough experience to know that they even could be manipulated or abused. They think that everyone has their best interest at heart.

The knowledge gap between Crowley and Muriel’s is reminiscent of that of movies like Tron Legacy, Fifty First Dates, Fifth Element, the original Planet of the Apes, and Splash. If you have made it this far Pop Culture Detective does a great job at explaining it.

Muriel is definitely autism coded and autistic people are frequently infantilized, but most of us know basic things about the world. We haven’t been stuck in an empty room for thousands of years. It is common for those with immense trauma to find a romantic connection for the first person who was truly kind to them. That’s why doctors can’t date their patients, teachers can’t date their students, and therapist can’t date their clients. Muriel doesn’t even know what romance is or what it entails for them or Crowley. (Aziraphale has also been super autism coded this season so we don’t just have Muriel)

But that’s only the case for the current cannon. It’s okay to retcon things in your own works, to go through different scenarios with characters that would allow them to interact differently. It’s okay to wonder about different characters and see them as a couple. It’s always important to take a step back to see the whole picture before commenting on something like this. I love the Good Omens fandom, it has allowed me to be myself and meet new people. I don’t want this fandom to become a toxic place. We already have to deal with homophobia and transphobia bearing down on us from the outside. We just want to make and experience art together.

hear me out: spirealm but make it tron legacy au except it's also sorta canon divergence

everything is pretty much the same except everything is pretty fucking real and not some fever-induced hallucination from getting hit by a car

jiushi's friend did create the game for him and lanzhu was created in the image of the protagonist that jiushi had envisioned during their years in university

i imagine how jiushi gets into the game is still through the hard drive that was sent to him (presumably by his old/ex-friend) and the plot remains unchanged

the ending also stays pretty much the same, but here's where the canon divergence comes in: jiushi doesn't wake up from the accident (because there was no accident!) but is instead pushed out of the game because they've done the whole resetting the game shebang except the game is destroyed instead

jiushi does manage to scrape enough data from the drive to rebuild the game and the ending can go one of two ways: they both decide to stay in the game or, much like in tron legacy, they decide to bring lanzhu out of the game and into the "real" world (which, if you squint hard enough, is also exactly what happens in the novel with the exception it was all thanks to nanzhu's door god powers)
