I have been listening to the Ithaca Sage almost none stop since it came out, and I gotta admit. I want AU's based on it for basically all my favorite pairs. Lovers separated for years (decades), only for the one missing to return and find a nest of vipers trying to marry the other.

And as much as I would love to see different pairs, I think of all my ships, the one it works best with is Merthur. Because you could have Arthur and Merlin in either role.

An Arthur that had to leave Camelot just after he and Merlin marry, before they can finalize the ban being lifted. And Arthur is gone for years, while Merlin tries his best to do the work Arthur left him, while the council blocks him at every move, because he's not real royalty and just the consort not the king. And eventually, the council declares Arthur dead, despite Merlin's protests, and suitors start showing up, because if they can marry Merlin, they can become king. And Merlin is constantly hiding his magic, being watched too closely to try and sneak away or use magic to look for Arthur. And so, when he feels that tingle in his magic meaning Arthur is near, Merlin reveals THE CHALLENGE. Arthur proved himself as king, by pulling the legendary sword Excalibur from the stone. And, well, Arthur left it behind, stuck in the floor behind the thrones. If anyone can pull it out, well, that would be Merlin's husband. And Merlin hides himself away, because he knows when they fail, the suitors will try to kill him. So the Suitors fail and plan to murder Merlin, because they've had enough, and Arthur can't stand it. He's been lurking at the edge, and fires a bolt from his crossbow straight into the leaders throat. He stalks through the throne room, giving his own 'I have had enough' speech, until he reaches Excalibur and pulls it from the floor. He's known to be near invulnerable when wielding it, and the suitors try to run, but the servants lock them in. Arthur, once known for his kindness and mercy, slaughters the men that have terrorized his husband and people for years. And finally, when it's all over, Arthur goes to his and Merlin's chambers, and asks Merlin if he could fall in love with him again, after everything he's done. And Merlin just calls him a stupid prat and kisses him senseless.

But! It could also be Merlin that's been away! Arthur and Merlin fall in love and are courting in secret while Uther is still king. Then Merlin is discovered to be a sorcerer, and is chased out, but Arthur knows and still loves him. And so Merlin spends years, as this boogeyman of Camelot, being hunted like mad dog by Uther. And then, war breaks out and Uther tells Arthur to stay in Camelot, and goes to fight, but its a trick! While Uther is on the battlefield, a second army lays siege to Camelot, putting Arthur in danger. And Merlin tries to tell Uther, finds him on the battlefield, and desperately tries to tell Uther that Arthur is in danger, only for Uther to attack him, and Merlin to mortally wound him trying to escape. The Camelot Army has to retreat, and Merlin sneaks back into Camelot among them. Then, helps the army break through the army outside Camelot, only to find that he was too late and the enemy is in the castle, Arthur having locked himself in his chambers with anyone that matters (Leon, Morgana, Gwen). Merlin takes out the enemy, planning to escape before Arthur sees him. But Arthur knows its him, and they reunite, and Merlin asks if Arthur could still love him, knowing he was a sorcerer and had done so many things, and Arthur just tells him he always knew about the magic, before they go to see Uther on his death bed. And Arthur tries to have his own 'I cant help but wonder' scene with Uther, only for Uther maybe has a change of heart (and its all happy and he apologizes for not being able to see the world Arthur will build) OR, Uther refuses, and Arthur leaves the room, planning to let his father die alone with his prejudice, only for Merlin to say, telling Uther that "when Arthur has calmed, he'll be so upset that he let you die alone".

And yeah, I just want these things, and have these ideas, but the chances of me actually getting to them is slim to none.

Could we one day be training in the courtyard and shooting with a bow and arrows and just pull on it little too hard that the arrow goes right through the target walls and the other people training starts to avoid being anywhere near the target when mc is there. And Arthur gifts them a crossbow so they won't break it with their strength

So there are enchanted weapons made specifically for battle mages, but they are very rare and even more difficult to find. Still, Arthur would take it up on themself to do it.

A little excerpt because I'm bad at summaries: (full disclosure this is the only bit that's Regina's pov, everything else is Emma's)

His heart beat in her palm. It was a familiar sensation, though one she hadn't felt in years. Regina looked down at him, on his knees before her, and felt powerful. She shoved the feeling aside and focused on Emma.

“You won't do it,” Arthur sneered from the ground, “you're too scared; you'll lose your pathetic little family.”

Emma's eyes flashed, the darkness inside her showing.

Regina crouched down to his level, the cut he'd made on her neck with Excalibur bled, leaving a dark streak on her red dress.

“You have no idea what I'm capable of.”

She heard Snow scream behind her, heard her sister beg her not to do it, heard Robin's no. But it was easy, to tighten her fingers around the heart, feel it give way in her hand, watch Arthur's eyes widen in panic and pain.

Dust ran between her fingers and she stood, staring down at the corpse of the man who'd tried to hurt Emma.

“Regina,” Snow's voice reached her from far away, her gaze still on the Dark One’s.

“What have you done?” Snow asked, reaching her and taking her arm. Ever her conscience.

Regina clenched her jaw.

Emma stepped towards her, ignoring everyone else, ignoring Killian's hand on her forearm.

“You're bleeding,” she said, touching her neck.

Regina inclined her head and let the Dark One look at the wound. It was a small one, barely a cut.

“It's nothing, I'm fine,” Regina said.

Emma healed her with a touch, the warmth of her magic spreading through Regina. It was still light magic.

It was only later, as she walked through the forest, that Regina realized what she'd done. The grit on her palm reminded her. Arthur's eyes widening and going blank. His body hitting the dark earth with a thud.

She'd killed again.

And she'd liked it.

Yes, she'd done it for Emma. Yet, she couldn't deny how her heart had jumped when she'd taken his heart. How her blood had sung in her veins when she'd seen the fear in his eyes.

She reached Granny's first, having left the rest of her family to walk behind her. She'd needed space to think, to clear her head.

Granny greeted her with a crossbow pointed at her chest.

Regina raised her hands and her eyebrows.

“Where's Snow White?” Granny asked her. No longer the kind and sympathetic old woman, but the hardened hunter Regina had known well, once.

“Coming,” Regina answered, just as Henry walked out behind Granny.

He glanced between them.

“What's going on?”

“Stay away from her, kid,” Granny said, “I can smell the stench of death on her.”

Regina pressed her lips together, and inclined her head, “and you couldn't before?”

It was the closest she'd ever come to admitting her past in front of her son, and fear flashed across his face.

“Not fresh, no,” Granny said, stepping closer to her, “so, I'll ask again, where's Snow White?”

“I'm right here,” Snow stepped out of the forest, just behind Regina, the others with her. All but Emma.

“I'm fine, Granny,” Snow said, walking past her and putting a reassuring hand on her arm, “you can put the crossbow down.”

A more shadowhunter based question - what do you think his favourite weapon will be??

Every shadowhunter has a favourite weapon, Julian with a crossbow, Emma with Cortana, Livia with sabres, Cristina with her butterfly knives.

For me I see three possibilities for Kit and which ones he’d like best. Bow & Arrow, Katana, or similar to Cristina, butterfly knives (or any kind of dagger)

Ngl im lowkey rooting for Katana. I think he would really enjoy that. I know in SOBH we learn that Kit just lives a normal-ish life, but I do hope he gets to go on shadowhunter missions every once in a while!

Get to know my characters

Hi, I'm still here! If you've ever wanted to know what kinds of characters I write here's a brief rundown of the main characters from my novels and my current works in progress.

Willow – The protagonist of It’s All Magic to Me, Willow is a twenty-something balance family and friends along with university studies. Coming from a mixed-race background, predominantly Scottish and Malaysian with some other unmentioned nationalities thrown in, Willow is closely bonded with her family particularly to her grandfather who lives with them. Asexual and Aromantic, Willow has no interest in dating but adores spending time with her two best friends – Miri and Sam. At university she is most of the way through a Bachelor of Arts with a History major and is considering further study. Her hobbies involve nail art, she has over thirty shades of nail polish in her cupboard, and training her newfound magic abilities.

Sphynx – In lieu of a MMC, It’s All Magic to Me has Sphynx. Full name Synphineuous Abydian. A copper coloured Abyssinian cat whose been around for a few hundred years. He’d retired as a familiar up until he discovered Willow but was more than happy to pounce back into the role. Patient, kind, fiercely protective, and a little stubborn. Sphynx enjoys teaching magic and talking about his previous owners, he also loves sleeping in laundry hampers and hiding under the bed.

Millicent ‘Milly’- NPC energy, main character of Customerpocalypse. A bit of a pessimist, stuck working in customer service, Milly is a disillusioned twenty-something before the apocalypse hits. After the apocalypse Milly bounces between self-loathing and general boredom with how despite a world changing event, she’s wound up in a customer service position again. She does not appreciate her boss’ secret hiding places, the mutated creatures of the wasteland, or the general weird nonsensicalness of the survivortopolis. What she does like is rabbits, (Hunky) Crossbow Larry, and her weirdo friends/former co-workers.

Selby – One of the three MCs of the Venatores de Mythos trilogy. Hailing from Darwin, Australia, Selby comes from a mixed racial background but predominantly gives off white girl vibes. Eighteen and studying an undergraduate medical degree at Bond University when Book 1 starts. Upon joining the Venatores de Mythos organisation she is assigned to Team Excalibur. Selby has been practicing Muay Thai since she was a child and is a proficient fighter, she bonds quickly with her teammates and with Shahrazad and Roque (the other MCs).

Shahrazad – Lowkey my favourite of the Venatores de Mythos trilogy’s three MCs. Born in Marrakesh to a French father and Arab mother, Shahrazad is multilingual fluent in both her parents’ languages as well as English. Her family moved to New South Wales, Australia during her early teens. Twenty-two years old and studying Stage Management at NIDA, when book 1 starts Shahrazad is uncertain of the path her life is following searching for a sign. Eager to reembrace her French heritage, having had it completely shut off to her after her father’s death some years ago, Shahrazad wholeheartedly embraces joining the Venatores de Mythos. She’s also a lesbian and she gets a happy, positive, romance subplot throughout the series.

Roque – Venatores de Mythos trilogy’s MMC! Roque is a twenty-year-old, engineering student at the university of Buenos Aires when book 1 starts. Fascinated by machines, architecture, and history. Roque is extremely close with his family, constantly trying to find ways to support his mother and younger siblings. He takes the opportunity offered by the Venatores de Mythos in honour of his deceased uncle, and because it allows him to financial support his family. Over time he comes to consider Selby and Shahrazad as his second family.

Ginny – FMC for Chimera. Ginny is the Chimera in question, a witch with various mythical creatures interspersed in her genetic and cultural heritage. Twenty-something years old and in hiding from creature specialists who want to dissect her and her family, Ginny struggles with her newfound lack of freedom desperately longing to return to the time before the incident. Fiercely protective and loving towards her family, Ginny has the gift to see death omens.

Adrian – MMC for Chimera. An only child, Adrian is the adopted son of creature specialist Caspian. With innate magic, Adrian wants to learn how to control his power and become a fully recognised warlock or at the very least he’d like to have a little freedom in his life. Ever since he was a child he’s been under the constant watch of Charity, a ghoul contractually bound to his father’s service. If the only way to obtain a modicum of freedom is to prove to his father that he has what it takes to be a creature specialist then that’s what he’ll do.

'Big' Jack Horner is one of several main antagonists in the movie Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. His brutal nature, warped sense of humour and lack of morals quickly turned him into a unique character for the fandom, as did his enormous, disproportionate frame and penchant for magical weaponry. Although the Wolf enjoys most of the internet's lascivious attentions, Jack Horner somehow manages to eke out quite a few admirers of his own.

Basic Information

A heartless, sadistic collector of magical artefacts, Jack used to be known as 'Little' Jack Horner from the nursery rhyme of the same name. Now a huge, intimidating adult, Jack runs a criminal empire under the guise of his inherited pie company, and uses hired guns to procure magical items for his collection, which is housed in a "trophy room" in his factory. Throughout the film, Jack seeks the fabled Wishing Star, a fallen star able to grant one wish to whoever finds it, hoping that it will make true his ultimate dream: to become the Master of All Magic, and to own and control all of the magic in the whole world, not sharing any of it.

Villain lovers, fat men enjoyers and artists alike have rejoiced at Jack's unique design, utter contempt for the notion of villainous redemption, and his generally hilarious attitude. Considered a breath of evil fresh air, you won't have to look far to find ravenous fans wanting a taste of this pie man's sweet, tasty filling.

Archetypes

4th Wall Blurring

Although it is not explicit in the film, it is widely accepted in fanon that Jack allegorically represents Disney, or at the very least large media corporations absorbing smaller properties. Jack sticks out in the narrative as explicitly not having a character arc, and instead doubling down on his awful nature when given the opportunity to justify his behaviour through his backstory. He seems quite aware of the fairy tale tropes surrounding him, but throws them away to focus on becoming more powerful.

Brick Shithouse/Tall

Jack is currently the tallest villain in the Shrek franchise - spin-offs included - and he is almost as wide as he is tall. Jack breaks the traditional Sexyman mold by being a fabulously fat man with a super long torso, gigantic hands, and comparitively tiny dancer's legs. The elegance with which he moves combined with his staggering physical size and strength are prime reasons for Jack becoming an object of lust.

Capitalist

Jack is incredibly wealthy; he lives in a mansion, owns a thriving baked goods empire, and has a large staff of loyal, trained assassins under his control (The Baker's Dozen). Likewise, he has plenty of money to hire mercenaries to hunt down his desired magical artefacts. He is even shown to own the still-functional severed hand of King Midas himself.

Chaoslord

The methods of violence Jack employs are all magical in nature, and involve a great deal of randomness and chaos. Whether it's beating up The Three Bears by golf-smacking them with Excalibur or exploding people into confetti using a crossbow loaded with unicorn horns, Jack revels in chaos and enjoys destruction and bloodshed.

Controversial

He's probably the most evil character in the entire Shrek franchise.

Criminal

Jack is a through-and-through criminal; our very first introduction to Jack even shows off his wanted poster! Using hired guns to obtain magical artefacts through a great deal of murderous activity, Jack's possessions are largely obtained by unethical or illegal practices, or are otherwise morally bankrupt by nature. This includes his collection of baby unicorn horns, which appear to have been harvested from the 'horses' that pull his carriage, his ship-in-a-bottle containing many still-living Lilliputians, the severed hand of King Midas, and a phoenix that he keeps in a birdcage and uses as an unwilling flamethrower.

Cosmic

Jack is obsessed with finding the Wishing Star: a fallen star capable of granting anyone's wish. In the climax of the film, Jack participates in an epic final battle with Puss, Kitty, Perrito, Goldie and The Three Bears, using the Wishing Star as a platform. After being defeated, he is swallowed by the collapsing star and presumably dies.

Dealmaker

Jack is shown to make deals with his hired guns in exchange for traditional payment. For instance, Jack agrees to give The Serpent Sisters their weight in gold for their finding the map to the Wishing Star, but Jack tricks them by using King Midas' hand to turn one sister into gold, thereby technically fulfilling his end of the bargain.

Distinctive Voice

Jack is voiced by John Mulaney, and his whiny, aggressive, high-pitched voice is extremely distinctive. His voice adds a great deal of humour to his character, but also provides an interesting contrast when he becomes threatening.

Dominating

Perhaps the most significant contributing factor to his Sexyman status; Jack dominates everyone around him with ease. He boasts an army of trained assassins (in particular his 'Bakers Dozen') who are all willing to lay down their lives for Jack (often doing so), as well as enduring tremendous physical and emotional pain for him. In a literal sense, Jack is huge - canonically the tallest villain in the whole Shrek franchise - with a Kingpin-like, broad-shouldered frame, a large gut, and enormous hands. Jack also interacts with the world around him in an aggressive manner: he shows little care for his coveted magical objects, swings about extremely heavy weapons with ease, and is not above shooting puppies in the face with a crossbow.

Egotistical

Jack has a very high opinion of himself and what he deserves. When Gemini Stewart (the knock-off Jiminy Cricket who judges Jack's character) attempts to prod for Jack's backstory, Jack tells him all he wants is to own all of the magic in the world, and not leave a bit for anyone else. In addition, the way Jack treats others - that is, with a complete disregard for the value of life - signifies his general egocentrism.

Hot-Headed

In no time at all, we are introduced to Jack's famously short temper. He has no tolerance for people who get in his way, and routinely becomes irate with those who work for him when they are not quick or efficient enough, or if they do not live up to his standards.

Intelligence

Jack's intelligence is of the sinister variety. He runs a criminal empire as the underside to a seemingly legitimate pie business, and is able to accrue a great deal of priceless magical artefacts whilst cheating his hired guns out of their promised pay.

Knife murder

Jack is nothing if not a blood-hungry, weapons-adept, murder-happy monster of a man, and has been praised as one of the first unapologetically homicidal villains seen in a big-budget animated movie for quite some time. Whether he's threatening to shoot Perrito, a literal puppy, in the face with a crossbow or allowing his own men to be devoured by carnivorous flowers, Jack is incredibly comfortable with murder, and even seems to take a sick pleasure in it at times.

Power

Power is the cornerstone of Jack's identity. Following his being snubbed as the central character of the Little Jack Horner nursery rhyme, Jack rebuilds his identity as 'Big' Jack Horner: a physically huge and intimidating man with an incredible amount of control, and zero conscience concerning his terrible actions. He actively hoards powerful magical artefacts for his own personal gain, and explicitly does not want anyone else to partake in the power of magic. Whilst seemingly motivated in some part by wealth according to his flashback, it is power which Jack craves the most.

Upper-Class

Jack was raised in a mansion in a wealthy family, and inherited their lucrative pie-making business. He views these things as "worthless crap."

Urban Legend Aesthetic

A little bit of a deviation, but Jack's origins within the Little Jack Horner nursery rhyme qualify him for folkloric status, which is urban legend-adjacent.

Villain

In a movie with multiple "bad guys," it has been hotly debated by the fandom as to who counts as an actual villain as opposed to an antagonist: seemingly the only thing that everyone can agree on is that Jack is indisputably a villain. He is callous, devoid of morals, quick to anger, utterly without remorse and loves causing pain and suffering. fantasy weapons hc's!

nancy - bow/crossbow. i think this one is kind of obvious tbh, but i think that nancy can use a sword when she needs to. it's not her weapon of choice, but she'll use it if she has to. (nancy also secretly has magic, but that's a separate thing entirely) in the 'real' world, nancy of course has her beloved guns. (though she does keep an extra bow and quiver in the closet just to keep herself from getting rusty.

robin - torn between magic and sword honestly. robin to me definitely seems to be the one who would lean more into the magic aspect of everything, but i do like the idea that she has a sword that's specifically for her. like Riptide for percy jackson. or Excalibur. it's a broadsword made specifically for her, she's the only one who can wield it. (nancy does however, teach her how to use a bow. gay panic ensues.)

steve - big swords. montante sword. anything that has to be wielded in two hands is his specialty. (this includes baseball bats). he's also pretty skilled at close unarmed combat. (he doesn't always win the fights...but he tries!)

jonathan - i do not think jonathan is the type to use a sword, at all. unless it was to protect will, then i could see him picking up a sword. the most i think he has is a short sword that joyce asks him to carry with him, especially if he's travelling with will, or even just travelling alone. he's also a skilled unarmed combat fighter (as we've seen...) and he can fight, but i don't think he is a fighter. i could definitely see him with a big ass shield though.

argyle - once again i do not think he's a fighter. in fact he's the LEAST likely to be a fighter. but he does know the forest, and he's definitely the one who's patching up everyone. collecting the herbs to make salves and creams and the occasional potion to heal any cuts/infections. he also helps them relax. (nancy needs that purple palm tree delight im so serious) in the 'real' world, argyle runs a pharmacy.

eddie - daggers and rapiers. he's good with smaller/sharper weapons. throwing knives too. he finds other types of swords to be too big and clunky. i'd like to imagine he's also pretty skilled with shields too (as we've seen). in the fairytale world, he and wayne were blacksmiths, so eddie knows his way around weapons.
