Kwannon (Revanche / Psylocke) Reading Guide

Were Kwannon's body is well known she herself had been dead for decades after her time with The X-Men as Revanche. Coming back to life Kwannon took the name Psylocke and has joined an array of teams using her lethal fighting skills alongside her telepathy and telekinesis. This reading order follows her appearances throughout the years.

Bolded: she's a main character/part of the team or it is an important issue for her. Italic: she's not necessarily a main character but still has interesting moments. Normal: She appears but it is not entirely important to her character.

Hey, I finally finished putting this together! (its just tv stuff, i missed any twitter tweets)

I've supplied (brief) summaries, hyperlinks, and timestamps for each show, mostly to fite/triller where you can directly watch them if you have an AEW+ sub. If you don't, I tried to include some youtube/twitter alternative links where applicable. I've also left the bilibili video ids from before I got fite/triller, they're in blue.

The feud begins. The first match of the show is Best Friends vs FTR. Kip and Penelope are… playing… on an arcade cabinet in the arena. Trent accidentally destroys the cabinet while fighting FTR. Kip and Penelope to run off. After the match ends, they return with Miro who beats up Chuck and Trent. After a commercial break, Miro/Kip have a tag match (squash) against Lee Johnson/Sean Maluta and then do a promo about the broken arcade cabinet.

MKP then reveal that it was merely a halloween trick™ and beats them up.

Excalibur interviews Trent and Miro ahead of their upcoming match on Wednesday over webcam. It’s 6 minutes long, and mostly Excalibur bearing witness to Trent and Miro arguing. Gonna give a shout out to their distinct webcam setups, lol (Trent is using workout earbuds and sitting in what has to be a large dim empty room, Excalibur is in his bedroom, and Miro is in his gamer office with a headset)

Miro scares them off and then defeats Trent with his submission hold. After the match, Miro puts Trent back into his Game Over submission and Chuck runs in to save him. Kip was following close behind. Chuck and Trent get both of their asses kicked. Orange attacks MKP and the two sides split off.

MKP interrupt the interview– Kip’s mad that Orange’s beef with the Dark Order caused them to show up at the Trent vs Miro match, and that they could’ve hurt Penelope. He asks for an apology from Orange and then immediately slaps him anyway. Best Friends get mad on his behalf but Orange casually says everythings cool and walks with the two of them offscreen. Everyone is confused at how chill he is.

Best Friends fight with Miro & Kip, but the refs get them away. Miro proceeds to kick the shit out of every security guard.

Over the course of 2022 you’ll occasionally see a guy in the crowd with a cardboard box on his head. That’s Kip Sabian, out of kayfabe he was dealing with recovering from a shoulder injury? It lasted a while and when he recovered he came back as a my chemical romance lookin’ dude who may or may not have thought the cardboard box was controlling him? The gimmick didn’t get over so it got dropped pretty fast. He also had a short feud again against Orange Cassidy in 2023 when Orange had the All-Atlantic Championship– he got under Orange’s skin so bad! Anyway thats neither here nor there. I took advantage of the lull pre-Dawntrail and snatched up a small Shirogane house! After endless tinkering (and a bit of surreptitious floating and glitching) I have a nice little retreat to call my own. Housing is addictive, isn't it? Getting all your furniture placed just how you want it can eat days even if you don't use the glitches to abuse the system.

I figured that a Lalafell, especially one like my cranky little dumpling, would really like Doman-style furniture because they don't need to scramble up onto it like a Hyuran toddler.

Who is.....Jonothan Starsmore | Chamber? - A Reading Guide

Jonothan "Jono" Starsmore is an X-Men affiliated mutant from Marvel comics first introduced in 1994. A native of London and explicitly connected to the grunge scene, Jono has always been the pinnacle of the "bad boy with a heart of gold" trope- the only difference being that in place of a heart he has a furnace of psionic energy. Jono is best known for being part of Generation X (the team he was introduced with) but has also been an official member of the X-Men. The manifestation of his powers left him disfigured and destroyed many of his internal organs as well as his jaw, leaving him unable to speak verbally, requiring him to utilize his psionic abilities to communicate telepathically. Jono's story chronicles one of self-acceptance and is one I'd highly recommend!

If this doesn't sound like an X-Men plot that's because it's not, but the X-Men sure did get a tie-in and Jono's in it.

Trevor Hawkins, also known as Eye-Boy, is a mutant whose entire body is covered in a total of 57 eyes. These eyes give him enhanced visual abilities such as telescopic, microscopic, night, and x-ray vision, as well as allow him to very accurately read micro-expressions, body language, and nonverbal cues. ok so. i study medieval literature for my degree and i 10000373939201% agree about merlin being a huge sack of shit and just gross and awful. my question is how you feel and navigate retellings where merlin is. like actually a fairly okay character. not morally pure by any means of the imagination but i.e he’s aged down, he’s more of a friend to arthur, he’s a little less of an evil madman. like the T.A Barron novels (don’t quote me on this exactly bc i haven’t read all of them) where he’s actually a semi sympathetic character who doesn’t just terrorise women

I highly recommend Mary Stewart’s Arthurian Saga with a Merlin trilogy followed by a Mordred book.

There’s a tv show/movie thing called Merlin of the Crystal Cave (1991) which covers book one and it’s great! Baby Merlin is so sweet and his mother’s casting is perfect. She was fierce and beautiful. I loooove Merlin in The Adventures of Sir Lancelot (1956-1957) he’s very sweet and quirky. Helps Lancelot out, beefs (good natured) with Kay, advises Arthur in ways that actually make sense, honors Guinevere (who has a seat at the Round Table!) and has an affinity for birds. I also love Merlin (1998), his romance with Nimue is beautiful!! They met as teenagers but don’t really get together until they’re middle aged and I just adore them. A very different Merlin, but I like him in Starz Camelot (2011) as well (even though he did follow through helping Uther get to Igraine pretending to be Gorlois and then later sleeps with Igraine. Yikes!). So that’s a morally gray example for you.

Movie-wise and another morally-gray example is Excalibur (1981) which everyone knows is one of my favorite films ever. Merlin helps Uther cross the mists to rape Igraine and then takes baby Arthur away while she’s screaming. In fact I commend Sir John Boorman for portraying it like this, without glossing over it, as many filmmakers turn away from it (which is fine and valid but I respect a creator who can depict these things in a way subtextually sympathetic to the woman). Later, Merlin is silly and wise and often comedic, making quips about Arthur eating Guinevere’s mystery pastries and tripping into the water while Arthur battles Lancelot. When Merlin returns at the end in dreams to Arthur and Kay, it’s touching. Boorman has created an extremely compelling character, capable of both evil deeds and bidding for Uther as well as genuine compassion and affection for Arthur, even extending that to Kay. Another great example is Merlin and the Sword (1985) (where my pfp is from<3) where he’s significantly older than Ninianne (Merlin’s actor was 26 years older than Ninianne’s). She’s brought to court by Pellinore since her own dad is too sick. She and Merlin play with tarot cards and he materializes flowers for her and they make out in the crystal cave. It’s very sweet! But also Ninianne’s actress was 25 years old during filming (in 1981). That’s a grown ass woman. Yeah she’s younger than him but she’s old enough to make her own choices. Hell yeah fuck that old man!

So I don’t think you have to worry too much about tiptoeing around the old wizard or adding caveats like “He’s morally good in this one” to justify liking him or the story. Enjoying Merlin’s character, good, gray, or bad, doesn’t mean we condone his actions in anything he appears in, particularly Medieval literature which is a product of its time. Each story is self contained to its own universe. Merlin is far from my favorite character, and I personally write him pretty shit, but I don’t think any character is irredeemable because they’re not real and cannot achieve redemption at all. That’s a fake guy. He’s a tool in the narrative just like all the others. So if he’s interesting and engaging, that’s all that really matters. The worst thing a character can be isn’t evil, it’s boring.
