♡~~♡~~♡~~♡~~♡
Summary: You are always supplying your purple banded friend with tools and parts for his research and inventing, but one day, you accidentally leave behind a piece of paper you thought you trashed, and it leads to an accidental confession.
Warnings: None!
Requested: Nuh uh!
GN!Reader
....................................
You hummed quietly as you searched through the scrap metal infront of you.
You were currently digging around in a scrapyard that was located not to far from your apartment. Donnie had sent you a list of parts he needed for a thingy majig that he was working on, and you promised to get them for him.
Humming quietly to the song you heard on the radio this morning, you picked up one of the parts Donnie asked for, putting it in your little red wagon alongside everything else.
Checking your list, you notice that you finished grabbing everything, so you start to walk out of the scrapyard, waving goodbye to the old man who owns it as you leave. He lets you come in whenever you want to, and never once had he asked you for payment either, he was super sweet.
You walked down the sidewalk, dragging your wagon behind you. Suddenly you get a text from Donnie, you open the message and read it out.
Purple Guy: Did you get the stuff?
You smile, sending a quick reply.
(Nickname): Yep! I got it all here! I dunno if some of it works, but ig we'll find out.
Purple Guy: Thank you so much, (Name)! You are literally the most amazing person ever!
Purple Guy: Bring it all down ASAP, ok? I'll see you in a bit!
You blush slightly, this dork had no idea what he was doing to you. Sure, it was a light hearted, easy-going complement. One you would give a friend.
But gosh darn it, somehow it still gave you butterflies.
Sighing, you make your way down an alley, then over to the back wall. You look behind you, then up towards the rooftops, checking to make sure you aren't being watched.
Once you confirm that its fine, you drop the wagon handle. You walk over to one of the dumpsters and reach behind it, hand brushing the wall untill you find a button.
Pushing the button, you back away as the ground opens up. Smiling you walk through the entrance that is normally used for the Shellraiser.
You arrive at the Lair shortly after, heaving your wagon up the stairs. Walking further into your turtle friends home, you find Mikey and Leo sitting on the couch, watching TV.
"Hey guys." you say, greeting the two.
Mikey whips his head around, jumping up and over to you, "(Name)'s here!"
The orange masked turtle pulls you into a bearhug, sqeezing tightly.
"Mikey- need- air-!"
"Oops."
Mikey drops you, smiling sheepishly, "Sorry dude/tte, my bad."
You laugh shaking your head as you pick up the wagon handle, "Your fine, Mikey. Just try not to squeeze so hard, I'm brittle remember?"
The terrapin smiles and nods, before walking over and crashing back on the couch. You wave to Leo before continuing to Donnie's lab.
"Knock, knock."
Donnie jerks his head up at the sound of your voice, looking in your direction. He smiles at you as he pulls up his welding mask, you returning his smile with one of your own.
You push the wagon infront of you, nudging it closer to Donnie, "I come bearing gifts."
He gasps, "No way you actually found that one?" he rushes over and picks something out of the parts.
"Was it supposed to be hard to find?" you ask, sitting in the extra chair Donnie always had out for you.
"Yes! I've been trying to find one to fix for a while now, but haven't had any luck. Gosh you really are amazing."
You blush, clearing your throat, "S-so uh, what is it?"
Donnie looks up from examining the peice, "Hm? Oh, it's a motor for a hydrolic press, I need for a Shellraiser upgrade."
You nod, looking around the lab as Donnie continues to dig through the stuff you brought him.
You jump as your phone buzzes, pulling it out of your pocket, you see a message from your mom, telling you your aunt and cousins were coming over for dinner, and that you had about an hour to cousin proof your stuff.
Not looking up from your phone as you reply to your mother you get Donnie's attention, "Hey, Dee, I have to go. Apparently we're having family over for dinner. I got about an hour to put up anything I don't want broken."
"Your aunt Sherry?" he asks as he bring some of the stuff over to his desk.
"Yep, Aunt Sherry and her little trolls." you sigh, "I'll just come back for my wagon tommorow, ok? that way I have an excuse to bother you guys."
Donnie smiles, "Sure thing, see you tommorow, (Nickname)."
"See you tommorow, Don."
You walk out of the Lab, saying good-bye to Leo and Mikey, on the way, leaving out into the New York sewer system.
You make your way down through the streets to your apartment, thinking about how smoothly that small interaction with Donnie had gone. You only blushed once!
Sure you were there for like, fifteen minutes, but, hey, a win is a win.
Walking up into the apartment you share with your parents, you say hello to your mother before walking into your room to begin the process of hiding things.
You sigh, as you put your laptop up on a high shelf, thinking silently to yourself. Should you tell him? Would he even feel the same way? Didn't he have a crush on April? It's not that you hadn't tried to tell him before, in fact the opposite was true.
You had tried to tell him before in person, over text, your latest attempt involved you writing out your feeling on paper with the intent of giving him the note. But you once again chickened out, and trashed the note.
Why was this so dang hard? Why do feelings need to be so friggin' complex? You love Donnie, you really do. You love his adorkable smile, the way he rambles on about his certain projects, how he smiles whenever you ask him a question.
He was perfect. But for some stupid reason, you just couldn't being yourself to tell him.
Before you could fall deeper into your own pity party, you heard your mother loud voice greeting your aunt at the door.
With a sigh you start to make your way into the living room, prepared to endure hell.
<DONNIE'S POV>
♡~~♡~~♡~~♡~~♡
I watched as (Name) left the Lab, listening to their cheerful voice as they bid my brother goodbye.
I look at the red wagon with a sigh. I shake my head, forcing myself to focus.
"Relax, Donnie. They'll be back tommorow."
I begin to unpack the wagon, placing the parts (Name) brought me in their rightful place around the Lab. My body was workimg on auto pilot as I focused on my thoughts.
How I had managed to get through that entire interaction with (Name) without completely embarrasing myself was a complete mystery.
I had recently come to terms with my feelings for them, I had been over April for quite a while now, and honestly, this was worse.
My old infatuation with April was completely different than my feelings for (Name). With April, it was more like feelings of physical attraction, the definition of a typical school kid crush.
But (Name) made me feel different. They make me smile, and laugh, I feel like I'm on a cloud whenever we talk. Their voice, their eyes, their kind nature, who wouldn't be in love with them?
"Exactly, who wouldn't be in love with them? why would they choose you?"
"Shut up brain." I mutter to myself
I finally finish emptying the wagon, so I grab the handle, and move it to a corner of the Lab. That way, when (Name) comes to get it tommorow it's not damaged at all.
I start to turn away from the wagon, when I notice a crumpled peice of paper sitting in the bottom the empty transport.
Curious, I pick up the paper, doing my best to smooth out the wrinkles, I see the familar handwriting belonging to (Name).
My eyes widen as I read the paper, jaw dropping in surprise.
They like me.
They like me.
I re-read the note, double and triple checking that I've read it correctly. And I did. It was the exact same the first, second, and third time I read it.
I clutched the note in my hand, running out of the Lab, and the Lair. I ignore Leo's questions as I rush into the sewers, with only one thing on my mind.
<YOUR POV>
♡~~♡~~♡~~♡~~♡
You close your bedroom door, as quietly as possible, locking it just to be safe.
You had finally ditched the miny terrors that were your cousins, and the last thing you wanted was them in your room.
With a loud sigh you fell backwards onto your bed, arms and legs spread like a starfish.
But before you could even get fully comfortable, a soft knock came from your window.
Groaning, you got up from your bed, and walked over to your window. You drew back the curtains, practically jumping from your skin as you're greeted by the sight of a beaming Donatello Hamato.
You unlatch the window, allowing Donnie into your room. "What are you doing here? The sun isn't even fully down ye-"
"I like you too."
"I- what?" you're taken aback at Donnie's statement. He likes you too?
"I like you too. Like, as more than a friend."
"How did you-"
"I, uh- found your note." Donnie sheepishly handed you the crumpled paper, and you looked down at it,
'Dear, Donatello Donnie,
I like you. Like, alot. And I wrote it down on this note because I've tried and failed to tell you in person, and I have for a while. I like your smile, I like your laugh, I just couldn't help but fall for you.'
You felt your cheeks heat up, "Uh-uhm..."
Your cheeks burned brighter when you felt Donnie's hand on your chin, lifting your face so that you're looking at him.
"Can I... Can I kiss y-you?" he asked, softly.
You nodded, arms wrapping around his neck as you both lean in slowly. Just before you can kiss, you hear a knock on your bedroom door.
The two of you jump, both your heads jerking up to face the door.
"Honey? your aunt wants you to show her that scarf you bought the other day." your mom called from the otherside.
"O-ok! just a second." you yell back.
You heard your mother walk away from your door, and turned to face Donnie again, "Hurry up, kiss me before the gremlins interrupt too."
He laughed quietly before trapping your lips with his own. The kiss was slow, gentle, and sweet, just what you'd expect from Donnie. When the two of you pull away, he's looking directly into your eyes, gaze so full of love you would think you'd hung the stars.
Before either of you could say anything, a knock interrupted again, "(Name)? Are you coming?" your mother asked through the door.
"Y-yeah, I just had to find the scarf."
"Ok, sweety."
You laughed quietly with Donnie as walked him to your window, "So, I'll see you tommorow?"
"Yeah. yeah, see you tommorow."
You smiled as you watched him leave, not moving from your window untill you couldn't see him anymore.

Ukraine is still likely to be outgunned by Russian artillery for much of the rest of 2024 despite Congress nearing the passage of a $60 billion military aid bill for Kyiv, officials and analysts told Foreign Policy, as both the United States and Europe ramp up production of NATO-standard rounds and restock their own arsenals.
For months, Ukrainian troops have been firing about 2,000 rounds a day, barely enough to sustain a defensive war against the Russians. And even with the approval of new U.S. aid, most factories have yet to ramp up production.
“The problem is there is a huge shortage—worldwide—of artillery shells,” said Oleksandra Ustinova, a Ukrainian lawmaker. “The Europeans said they would provide us a million shells—they provided only 30 percent of those. The Americans have dried out their stocks, and they’re also delivering to Israel. And they are only ramping up the production line.”
The congressional seal of approval, expected to come Tuesday or Wednesday, will mean that the Biden administration can begin to replenish the U.S. Defense Department’s stockpiles of ammunition that the United States might need to fight a war of its own someday, thereby allowing the White House enough leeway to begin sending artillery to the Ukrainians from storehouses in Europe without harming U.S. military readiness. Reuters reported that the Biden administration is preparing a $1 billion package that will include artillery, rockets, and lots of vehicles. But the expectation is that the administration will spend much of the year rebuilding U.S. stockpiles to prewar levels as the U.S. Army aims to level up artillery production to 100,000 rounds per month by the end of 2025.
Across the Atlantic Ocean, Europe’s stockpiles are empty. Most of the output from the European Union’s initiative to get 1.4 million shells into Ukrainian hands—about half of which have already been delivered—won’t get there until the end of 2024. So Ukraine’s partners on the continent are searching under the couch cushions and looking for suppliers outside the European bloc to find enough artillery to keep Kyiv’s gun barrels hot.
The Czech Republic appears to have sourced enough money from a consortium of European countries to buy 500,000 rounds of 155 mm artillery ammunition and is currently working on getting the first batch to Ukraine. The Estonian government, which also has an initiative to crowdfund artillery shells for the Ukrainians, has not started fundraising.
Refurbishing old artillery ammunition is about 30 percent cheaper than buying new shells, European officials said, but much of it comes from former Soviet satellite countries that aren’t keen to be on the Kremlin’s bad side.
“I think it’s fair to assume that the Ukrainians for the next 12 months will be able to have a monthly fire rate of maybe roughly 75,000 to 85,000 [shells] per month, which boils down to something like 2,400 to 2,500 rounds per day,” said Franz-Stefan Gady, an associate fellow at the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London who conducted a study recently examining Ukraine’s rate of artillery fire.
Gady said that is about the minimum amount that Ukraine needs to sustain a defensive war against the Russians. “That doesn’t leave any room for offensive operations this year,” Gady added. And congressional critics of U.S. aid to Ukraine—such as Sen. J.D. Vance, who argued in the New York Times this month that the United States simply doesn’t have “the capacity to manufacture the amount of weapons Ukraine needs us to supply to win the war”—are going to continue to make that case loudly.
In the meantime, Russia is on track to produce 3.5 million rounds in 2024 and might be able to surge to produce 4.5 million rounds by the end of the year. But there are questions as to whether Russia is starting to max out its industrial capacity. The Kremlin can’t extend working hours—their weapons shops are already working around the clock—so European officials expect that Russia will have to build more factories to produce the shells that it needs. Russia is also getting artillery shells from North Korea and Iran, but some of them are so old that they’re misfiring.
The hope is that by the beginning of 2025, the United States and European defense companies will be producing shells on a significant enough scale to put the Ukrainians on the front foot again. Without enough shells, the Ukrainians have been using first-person-view drones instead, which can be taken down with jamming equipment and can’t fly at night.
The Ukrainians are trying to juke the numbers in their favor by getting more high-explosive rounds, which some see as a key defensive weapon as they try to stave off Russian assaults across the 600-mile-long front line. “The Ukrainians are basically committed to largely being on the defensive this year,” a congressional aide told Foreign Policy on condition of anonymity to talk about the situation on the battlefield. “Cluster munitions are … a top five defensive weapon as they’re trying to marshal their forces.”
Every round of dual-purpose improved conventional munitions, known as DPICMs in military parlance, is about four to five times more deadly than a conventional artillery round, the congressional aide said. There are about 3 million DPICM rounds in U.S. arsenals, dating all the way back to the Cold War—and the Biden administration has the authority to send $500 million worth more of the rounds and is likely to approve them soon—but the weapons have high “dud” rates, meaning they don’t always go off when fired and can be left behind for civilians to encounter, often with deadly consequences.
CNN reported this week that the Biden administration is also expected to provide the Ukrainians with long-range U.S. Army Tactical Missile Systems for the first time. But with U.S. and European factories just starting to work double time to get themselves—and the Ukrainians—the weapons they need, Kyiv is expected to spend much of 2024 digging defensive trenches, as it has been doing for months.
It’s not clear those fortifications will be as effective as the multitiered Russian lines that blunted Ukraine’s 2023 counteroffensive, though.
“Ukraine is developing fortifications. They are building a defense depth,” said Rob Lee, a senior fellow in the Foreign Policy Research Institute’s Eurasia program who last traveled to Ukraine in November. “But the problem is when you have this manpower problem and ammunition problem at same time, it creates issues.”
And as production ramps up, Ukraine may be losing more troops that it can’t replace. “It took people two years to actually realize you need to invest in the defense industry,” Ustinova said.

With hips swagging and heels clicking against the steps the waitress makes her way to the VIP lounge that's overlooking the crowd downstairs where some important men are relaxing, swiftly she hands out the drinks they ordered at the same time a man walks into the nightclub. Wearing a leather jacket and shades inside isn't what caught the attention of the iceberg blue eyes but it's when he sits on a couch in a corner that's been empty for a while only for people to start crowding him once he's comfortable.
"Tell us everything you know about that man." The pink haired man order after pulling the Beta waitress into his lap and points to who he's talking about while catching the others attention.
"That's Vos, he's one of the regular drug dealers though he only shows on Saturdays but still popular with customers for always selling the best." She slips out after hiding her fear quick enough that no one can smell it.
"I don't remember him, how long as he been selling here?" The owner of the nightclub questions her after giving her a blank glance before going back to staring at the dealer.
"Longer then I have so about a year or two." Happy with the information the light purple colored mullet owner slips a bill into her pocket when the other similar hair styled man let her up off his lap.
"Be a sweetheart and bring him to us." She quickly nods before speed walking out of the room.
"What'd you think? Should we hire him to work for us?" The nightclub owner asked his leader that sitting in a dark corner alone and saw everything that happened, his white undercut hair style falls from his face when he tile his head to the ceiling.
"We'll see what he has to offer first." With that the owner turns back to the large window to watch the waitress speck to the dealer before gesturing to the VIP lounge which he can see him nod and followed her back.
"Have a seat" The guy followed the order as soon as he's stand before them and they take notice of the absence of his ABO scent which they can clearly see is hidden by a scent blocker patch over his gland like many others in the lounge.
"Empty your pockets." The pink haired man ordered and not wanting any beef with these guy he does as ordered under the watchful iceberg blue eyes as he plays with a his gun, many small bags falls on the table.
"What's this?" He examine the small black crystal like drug before watching me pull out a small note pad with a pen and quickly write on it.
~Black crystal; made it myself, even though it's high to buy but to some it's worth it to feel great without any major side effects plus everything else I got is the best.~
"Let us figure that out." Sandals slap against the shiny and slick floor as approaches us from his seat in the dark corner.
"Sanzu, you know what to do." He takes the empty seat next to the pink haired man after gesturing to him which he get a nod in return before grabbing all the small bags and left.
"Who's your supplier?" A tall man with light purple and black slick back hair stands behind me and he give me a smile when we connect eyes after his boss asked his question.
~ None, I get everything myself. As the saying goes, do everything yourself~
"Mmmm, if you're as good as people say I might hire you to work for me but that really depends on the quality you sell and if it's not....well I 'kindly' ask you to never show your face around here again, you got that?" I nod in agreement before writing the most obvious question down.
~if I work for you, what's in it for me that I don't already have~
"Anything you can think of really, more money, people, fancy clothes, other things that you might want." The nightclub owner answered my question after standing next to the taller man making me realize that these two are related.
"But you got time to make your mind, come back here next Saturday by then I've made my decision...... don't go running now!" The white hair leader called after me before I could leave the lounge, I just give them nod on my way out and completely left the nightclub with empty pockets of cash I would usual have on Saturdays but I'm not worried about it. With time I return to my flat, after throwing the lather jacket onto the couch and the sunglasses on the counter I pull off the scent blocker patch to throw it away in the trash. Not really like wearing these things in my own home, with a glass of water in hand I stroll to my room where I open a secret door with a fake light switch and softly close it behind me. Taking a sip from the glass before sitting it on the table and sit in the chair, with some concentration I held out my tongue to reveal a pill laying on it where I place it in a jar filled with the same kind of drug.
As long as I can remember I always had this ability to create drugs out of my mouth and no matter it's a pill, powder, liquid, or gas as long as I know the ingredients for it I can create it, it also effected my voice causing me to become a mute or I'll get everyone around me high. I continue on resupply what I lost at the nightclub but luckily that only side effect I get from using it so much is cotton mouth.

OXYCONTIN OXYCODONE (HCI CONTROLLED RELEASE TABLETS)
—tim grabbed the bottle from the stash of medicines in his apartment, shakily pressing down on the lid to open the locking mechanism.
OT00367K 300514-0H WARNING: OxyContin is an opioid agonist and a Schedule II controlled substance with an abuse liability similar to morphine.
—because thank god alfred somehow managed to keep the batcave infirmary stocked with many different drugs and painkillers. tim remembered the money making people blink, the professional suppliers delivering to an unknown location, leslie turning a blind eye, going so far as to help them sometimes. it gave tim access to whatever he needed to take for his own apartment.
Oxcodone can be abused in a manner similar to other opioid agonists, legal or illicit. This should be considered when prescribing or dispensing OxyContin in situations where the physician or pharmacist is concerned about an increased risk of misuse, abuse, or diversion.
—leslie had glanced at him strange, so tim took her into the medbay and pulled up his sweatpants. the swollen, bruised colour of his ankle was striking against his pale skin. to her credit, leslie didn’t even wince, just used firm hands and warm fingers to examine the wound. tim had asked her not to tell anyone, and the injury was minimal enough for her to purse her lips and nod. she demanded a checkup in a week. with some negotiating, tim moved it up to a week and a half. “be careful with those,” leslie said, gesturing towards the painkillers. “of course,” tim responded easily.
OxyContin Tablets are a controlled-release oral formulation of oxycodone hydrochloride indicated for the management of moderate to severe pain when a continuous, around the clock analgesic is needed for an extended period of time.
—tim leaned against the wall of his bathroom, finally gripping the hem of his sweatshirt and pulling it off. a myriad of colours greeted him, everything from mottled yellow to angry violet to the dark red of the blood flecked around the wound on his side. it was stupid, so stupid. damian had come out of that encounter fine, just a couple bruises to the forearms. tim, on the other hand, had to suffer a slice to the side with a knife, all because he’d hurt his ankle and ribs a day ago and hadn’t been able to flip out of the way in time. the pain had been unnoticeable yesterday, but today, it went past his entire body being on fire and instead felt like he’d been dipped in ice. tim was ready to claw his skin off his torso and fix his ribs himself, but he settled for tipping a couple pills into his palm.
OxyContin Tablets are NOT intended for use as a prn analgesic
—tim allowed himself a couple seconds, taking a few deep breaths, the way dick had taught him to push through the pain. then, pushing off the wall, tim stumbled into his bedroom. forgoing dinner, he shrugged his sweatshirt back on and collapsed onto the bed, letting out a hiss of pain when he landed on a bruise. he shuffled over to his favourite side, staying on top of the covers, moving his injured ankle into a somewhat comfortable position, and waited for the pills to kick in as he drifted off to sleep.
OxyContin 80 mg and 160 mg Tablets ARE FOR USE IN OPIOID-TOLERANT PATIENTS ONLY. These tablet strengths may cause fatal respiratory depression when administered to patients not previously exposed to opioids.
—when tim woke up the next day, it was hard to breathe. hypoventilation was nothing new with stronger painkillers, though, so tim groggily stood up and made his way into the bathroom. the bruises had darkened, and the wound was gaping. turned out tim’s initial assessment was wrong: he needed stitches after all. on the bright side, the pain wasn’t as bad today as it was yesterday. tim popped a couple more pills and took out his medkit.
OxyContin Tablets ARE TO BE SWALLOWED WHOLE AND ARE NOT TO BE BROKEN, CHEWED, OR CRUSHED. TAKING BROKEN, CHEWED, OR CRUSHED OxyConton Tablets LEADS TO RAPID RELEASE AND ABSORPTION OF A POTENTIALLY FATAL DOSE OF OXYCODONE.
—bruce needed his help with a black mask case, and he’d called jason in as well, because no one knew the villain like the former crime lord. but jason was also working a human trafficking case with dick, and while things were getting better, dick was still one of the people that routinely defied bruce’s authority, quieter than jason but much more intense. but damian had asked him personally to come (well, he’d said he wanted to show him how to groom alfred the cat, which was practically the same thing), and cass was visiting from hong kong. so, for probably a couple rare hours, everyone was going to be in the manor, and if alfred and cass had anything to say about it, peacefully. tim gathered the information he’d layed out, and made his way towards the manor.
Possible Side Effects of OxyContin include: Drowsiness and/or weakness,
—tim stopped in one of the sitting rooms in the manor, dropping onto the couch after feeling the ground sway underneath him. he probably needed to eat something. knowing what his family would say if anyone found him in this state, he used trembling hands to take his computer out of his backpack, and pull up some mindless case under the pretense of work. he forced his eyes open, letting the blue screen cut through his vision. he had a good night’s rest, so the last thing he needed was to sleep right now. besides, look at dick! the man could stay awake for days on end, or keep going for weeks on minimal sleep, never get slow or sloppy in the field with exhaustion, and kept a warm and welcoming smile on his face the entire time. the least tim could do was put his injury to the side and stay awake for the first few hours of the night, before everything delved into screaming matches and arguments.
dizziness that may be accompanied by a headache,
—tim could feel everybody staring at him. they were analyzing him, taking stock of his weaknesses, he just knew it. and he couldn’t blame them. he could barely keep his head propped up, sitting in front of the screen. he flinched every time a particularly sudden or loud sound cut through the air, making his brain scream and his face wince in pain. tim’s fingers were rubbing his temples, but the effect was laughable against the pounding in his ears, the pounding of his head. “tim,” bruce’s voice caught his attention, deep but not quite gentle. “why don’t you get some water, hm?” tim nodded, then went to stand up stumbling slightly and grabbing the chair for balance. bruce moved to steady him, but tim held a hand out to stop him. he was fine. the floor was moving, the walls were spinning, but he was fine. “just a little tired,” he waved off to bruce. “don’t worry. i’ll grab an energy drink or something later.”
nausea,
—jason’s brow was furrowed as tim forced another bite to his mouth. across the table, dick’s head tilted in question and he asked “i thought alfredo was your favourite?” tim’s smile didn’t feel all that forced when he brought it up, and he forced another bite past his lips. “i’m just not that hungry. i had a snack in the afternoon.” his stomach was rolling, clenching, sizing up and- “if you would like something light, master timothy, i’m sure we have some crackers and soup. you can eat the alfredo another time.” alfred really was too kind. tim’s hands were clenched around the fork, and it took everything he hand not to curl up on his stomach, to heave as he opened his mouth to say “no thanks alfie. i’m good.”
and vomiting,
—tim couldn’t take it anymore. he pushed his chair back and left the table, far more rudely than he’d ever been before, barring an argument at the dinner table, and raced upward, willing his uncooperative feet and busted ankle to cooperate no matter the dizziness. he could hear the confused cries of his family behind him, but ignored them. tim threw open the door to the bathroom, having the mind to close and lock it, before falling over the toilet, heaving up the little pasta he’d managed to force down. and when that was done, there came the fire. the pain in his stomach as he tried to throw up what wasn’t even in his stomach anymore and oh was that blood? that wasn’t a good sign.
among other side effects. For a complete list of all possible side affects, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
—there was pounding on the door, and tim heard dick’s voice calling out his name. “fuckin’ pick the lock!” jason’s voice was angry. of course it was angry, the one time his family hadn’t come to blows and tim had ruined it. couldn’t he have held it together for just a few more hours? suddenly, there was a loud crack. cass had kicked the door in. she leaped into the bathroom, immediately over to him, with dick hot at her heels. jason was leaning against the doorway, keeping damian or bruce from coming in.
Previous medical conditions, such as lung problems, head injury, liver or kindey problems, adrenal gland problems, convulsions or seizures, alcoholism, hallucinations or other severe mental problems, and past or present substance abuse or addiction may heighten the negative effects of the oxycodone.
—voices filtered into tim’s mind, but everything sounded like he was underwater. muffled, quiet. the quiet was nice. if only his headache could get with the program. there were hands on his shoulders, cupping his face. they were warm, and felt strong. he was safe. there was a part of him screaming, though. get up, open your eyes, stop being weak! stop being pathetic! the others could do so much more than you, so just stop acting like a victim and be useful for once! the voice was demanding, and tim tried to do just that, the dizziness had come back with a vengeance and the room was spinning. or maybe his vision was whiting out, because everything flared a bright, brilliant white before tim was plunged into darkness.
Pharmacist: dispense the attached Medication Guide to any patient taking OxyContin Tablets.
OT00367K 300514-0H
i don’t actually know how OxyContin works so all of this may be horribly wrong. this is just what the warning label said on a bottle i found in the medicine cabinet.

hogwartswizard!ateez + boyfriend!ateez: (p.sh)
masterlist + 6/8 anon request :)
- it should’ve regular day for seonghwa
- woke up, got ready, went to classes, etc, then went to work
- why was today so different?
- because you came in
- not only did you order a caramel brulee flavored mocha, but you ordered 5 pumpkin pasties
- he’d be lying if he said that seeing you gorge yourself on pumpkin pasties wasn’t the most interesting thing he saw since he walked in on jongho bench pressing his coffee table last week
- they didn’t get much traffic on Tuesday’s at Lucinda’s cafe in Hogsmeade
- as he was making another order he couldn’t help but glance back at you
- hOW DID YOU ALREADY EAT THEM ALL?
- it couldn’t have been healthy
- seonghwa snapped out of his daze, realizing that he had been staring at you
- he continued making another customers drink, but not without glancing toward you one more time
- after that day, you started to frequent the cafe alot more often
- and it wasn’t just because of the pumpkin pasties you were obsessed with
- it was the cute barista too
- after he got used to you coming to the cafe alot, he memorized your order
- “the usual?” “yep!”
- honestly, you got friendly and comfortable enough to have banter with him once you came to order
- finally, he could ask
- “why do you order so many pumpkin pasties when you come here?”
- “why not?” you answered
- wHaT? what type of non-answer answer is that?
- this really didn’t help your case for trolling each other
- one night, he was closing the cafe and he was also on clean up duty for awhile aND when he went to ask you to keep him company. again, he found that you were soundly asleep with your head lying on the table
- he smiled softly at you before continuing with closing the shop
- then finally he was done and it was time to wake up so he could walk you home
- ...if you’d actually stop sleep mumbling aND WAKE UP
- he tried gently shaking you, whispering in your ear, tapping the table gently
- you just refused to wake up???
- what thE HELL WAS HE SUPPOSED TO DO?
- after a solid ten minutes of both, thinking and trying to wake you up, he just decided to take you to his apartment
- he worked something out with Dumbledore a long time ago, in order to be able to live off-campus... he had to house a student of hogwarts and be their tutor if they needed it
- anndddd, that’s how he got his roommate, jongho
- but jongho is at a sleepover with his friends at hogwarts so he won’t be at the apartment anyways
- seonghwa piggybacked you to his apartment and set you to sleep on his bed while he took the couch
- bUT NOT BEFORE KISSING YOU ON THE FOREHEAD AND TUCKING YOU IN
- and he couldn’t help but go to sleep with a smile on his face since you did snuggle up to him when he was carrying you
- you woke up to the smell of delicious pancakes and bacon??
- your eyes bulged open as you realize aren’t at your dorm
- wHeRe ArE yOu?
- panic started to rise in your stomach until your eyes caught ahold of a polaroid photo of seonghwa and his friends
- you were in sEONGHWA’S ROOM??
- you know what that means?
- BABY PICTURES
- but first, of course, you had to say good morning to seonghwa
- so you open the door before bumping into something... or rather someone...
- seonghwa quickly caught you, wrapping his arms around your waist as clasped his shirt for dear life
- y’all actually stayed like that for a solid three minutes
- just looking into each other’s eyes
- and maybe you glancing at his lips
- at least until the oven goes off, ruining the cute moment you two were having
- he made sure you were steady on your feet before rushing into the kitchen
- presumably, to hide that blush of his because we all know seonghwa doesn’t burn food, no no, he doesn’t
- soon enough, y’all are sitting across from each other
- him trying to distract himself from your stare by stuffing his face with french toast, and you examining him
- you tilted your head in confusion
- “y/n could you stop staring at m-” you promptly cut seonghwa off, “hey seonghwa, do you like me?”
- not only did his eyes bulge out of their sockets *almost* but he started to choke on his french toast
- “li-like you? as what? a friend? you’re a great friend!” he rambled
- you stifled a chuckle, “you know, for what it’s worth, i like you too.” you smirk
- cue, seonghwa almost choking on his french toast again
- seonghwa as a boyfriend?
- he remembers all the little things you tell him like how you have a potions test next week
- you both treat jongho as your child, unintentionally
- you’re always at seonghwa’s apartment that jongho has gotten so accustomed to you being there
- you and seonghwa are basically the parents of his friend group???
- with that being said, y’all remind everyone of a old married couple
- you just get each other
- he texts you corny pick-up lines every day, but he’d probably pout and cry if you told anyone he does that
- he looks at you with such admiration you don’t even know
- he gives the best back hugs
- seonghwa is your pumpkin pasties supplier and you’re shameless about it
- you gotta do what you gotta do.
- he always smells like coffee and vanilla from being at the bakery so much
- he loves when you call him hwa
- he loves nicknames in general
- actually, he just loves anything you do

Dean felt good. Not in a normal, 'Everything is fine in the world and my father didn't just die for me and leave me with an ominous threat to save or kill my baby brother' way, but good nonetheless. The sky was a perfect dark blue, the clouds were crisp and white, the air was fresh, blowing through the open windows as the Impala pushed 60 on the freeway. He felt good.
"OK," Sam said, shifting in the passenger seat, photocopies of newspaper articles scattered over his giant lap. "Lucas Heller, 46, CEO of Stanscorp, the town's biggest job supplier, found dead last Thursday.. Lungs shredded."
Dean shook his head solemnly. "Poor bastard."
Sam went on. "Millionaire lottery winner Micah Bloom, dead of an apparent heart attack, also showed signs of an animal attack."
"What happened to the money?" Dean chuckled to himself, right hand gripping one o'clock on the wheel.
Sam rolled his eyes and sighed. "And this last one, Robbie Hastings, mauled to death in his second floor bedroom. Coroner says it looks like a bear attack. Stomach and internals were shredded while he was still alive."
"Ouch."
"Yeah."
Dean switched hands and grimaced at the thought. "Imagine being clawed to death? Shit." He chanced a look at the black and white paper still dangling from Sam's hand. A happy couple, presumably Robbie and his wife, smiled back at him, and Dean's eyes narrowed. She looked awful familiar…
"You OK, Dean?"
His name snapped Dean out of his head, slamming the filing cabinet of memory inside. "Yeah," he said, clearing his throat and sitting up behind the wheel. "Hungry. You hungry? I need food."
Sam shrugged noncommittally. “There’s half a bag of Combos in the back.” He turned to reach for them, but Dean huffed loudly.
“Food, Sam. I need food.”
“So, you don’t want the Combos?”
Dean groaned and sighed. “Yeah, gimmie the damn Combos.”
Dean was feeling a little less good when they left the morgue. He swallowed down a mouthful of the truck-stop breakfast burrito that was threatening to make its way back up and out, and nearly missed the tiny step after the door as he followed Sam outside.
“You alright?”
“Who puts a stair there!”
Sam shrugged him off and headed to the car, manilla file in hand. “That was harsh.”
“Yeah. Gross.” Dean gagged again, remembering the mutilated body they’d just examined. He paused for a moment and set his hands on the roof of the Impala, late summer sun burning his wrists slightly. “Sam, what kind of bear eviscerates his prey and doesn’t...eat any of it? Dude was torn apart, but everything was there…not, ya know, where it was supposed to be, but…”
Sam shook his head. “Not any bear I know of. Bears don’t normally pick locks, sneak into a dark house, climb a flight of stairs, pull a man out of his bed to do that either.”
“So...not a bear. Gotcha.”
“Check out the crime scene?”
Dean nodded and pulled open his door with a creak of the old hinges. “I guess we could swing by…”
The house was cute. A little white fence surrounded a perfectly manicured lawn, pink rose bushes lined the front of the house, reaching up towards green shutters and big airy windows.
Dean didn’t notice the hand paved walkway or the initials carved into the top porch step. He didn’t see the wooden gnome statue hiding between the bushes or the perfectly faded patina on the antique brass door knob. Didn’t hear the charming bells that sounded through the house as Sam rang the bell. He was too focused on the familiar face he’d seen in the paper, his brain combing through every woman he’d ever known, denying the odds that it could be her. There was no way… was there?
The door opened slowly and a sad but kind smile greeted them.
Dean’s jaw dropped. “Holy shit.”
Beside him, Sam startled and quickly reached for his badge. “Mrs. Hastings? I’m Special Agent Wilson, this is my partner Special Agent Jardine…”
The smile spread as Y/N ignored Sam completely. “Hey, Dean.”
Sam dropped the badge, letting it hang midair as he assessed the situation. His brother was staring at the woman, eyes clouded by something similar to sadness but not quite. Sam couldn’t place it as he’d never seen such a look on Dean’s face before; on anyone else he’d say melancholy, but with Dean, who knew. He cleared his throat, but neither paid him any mind, caught in a moment.
Dean let out a breath that was almost a laugh, pure shock running through him. “I saw the picture in the paper,” he said softly, “but I didn’t think it was really you.”
“What’s going on?” Sam asked to no one since no one was listening.
Y/N laughed and gave a little shrug, her eyes never leaving Dean’s for a second. “It’s really me.” Her smile was big but masking something painful. “You look...really good, Dean.”
Freckles drowned in a sea of pink as Dean blushed. “You look…amazing,” he said quickly, stumbling over his own tongue. “Like… wow. I…”
Sam cleared his throat loudly. “So you two know each other,” he announced, hoping to break the fog of whatever was happening and get back to work.
“You changed your name,” Dean half asked her, still forgetting Sam was next to him.
Y/N nodded. “That happens when you get married.”
His smile fell a bit, but he picked himself up quickly. “Yeah. Right.” He licked his lips, lost in her eyes.
Sam gave up, rolling his eyes. “Should I go?”
Dean jumped. “Oh, sorry. Y/N, Sam, Sam, Y/N.”
“Nice to meet you, Y/N.” Sam reached for her hand. “I’m very sorry for your loss.”
The mention of her dead husband seemed to jar Y/N back into reality. She squeezed Sam’s hand gently. “Thank you. Do you need to come in, or?”
“If you don’t mind,” Sam said with a professional aire. “We should check out the house, yes.”
Y/N stepped aside to let him in, holding the door open for them both. “I mean, I know you’re not really Feds, but once upon a time I trusted your brother so…”
Sam shot Dean a quick look but his brother was back to staring.
“So you know why we’re here?” Sam asked as Dean dreamed.
Y/N shut the door slowly and turned around. “I assume something strange is afoot, if it brings Dean Winchester to my door.”
Dean walked around as they chatted, spinning a small circle in the living room, peeking into the dining area, straining to see the kitchen. The house was tidy and small, but stuffed with personal items, strange art, and plants here and there.
“This place is so you,” he announced with a laugh, looking at a ratty but interestingly colored afghan slung over the couch.
Y/N looked over her shoulder at him. “Excuse me?”
Dean shook his head and sighed as he picked up a smooth white rock from the coffee table. “Nothing…”
“We only had one slice of apple left,” Y/N said, shaking her hips as she walked back to Dean’s booth.
He looked up from his coffee mug with a frown. “Ah, damn.”
“So I fought Betsy for it,” she concluded, biting her lip as she smiled down at Dean and handed him the plate.
“Oh, you’re the best,” he told her, looking from the picture perfect slice of apple pie up to her beautiful face.
“Whipped cream?” she asked, pulling a can from her apron.
Dean nodded quickly and sat back as Y/N swirled a giant tower of cream on top of his pie.
“A little extra because you’re cute,” she whispered with a wink.
Dean’s mouth flooded and his pants grew tight as Y/N dipped her index finger into the whipped cream and pulled out a dollop to suck between her plump lips.
The pie was good but the view was better. In fact, he couldn’t keep his eyes off of her. She seemed to float around the tiny diner, plastic smile screwed on tight for every customer, a softer, sexier appearing when she glanced his way. He was only in town for a few days, just in between cases on his was to meet John, but if he could, he’d spend every meal sitting in that booth staring at his beautiful waitress.
“Did you enjoy your meal, sir?” she asked, plugging his ticket into the cash register.
Dean laughed. “Very much, Miss, thank you.”
She looked away and gathered his change, giving Dean a chance to gather his courage.
“So…”
Y/N popped back up and his voice got stuck. “Have a great day,” she smiled, handing over two quarters and a receipt.
Their hands touched as he took the change and Dean nearly grabbed her, pulling her over the counter to taste her perfect lips. But he kept it all inside, figuring he had just imagined all the flirting. What would a girl like her want with a scruffy vagabond like him anyway?
She let her hand slip away and whispered gently before leaving him stunned. “I get off at nine.”
Her number was written on the back of his recept, a quick ‘Call Me’ scrawled on the top.
Dean bounced all the way back to his car, a new spring in his step and a gleam in his eye that wasn’t there before.
Sam journeyed up the tight staircase, careful not to knock any picture frames off the walls with his broad frame as he walked up nearly sideways. The old stairs were not made for giant feet.
The master bedroom was easy to find; second door on the right, crossed with bright yellow police tape that he pulled down to step through.
Y/N stood in the doorway behind him, her toes on the border between hall and bedroom, never moving to cross.
Sam stepped carefully. The room was a mess, dried blood still in pools on most of the floor, soaked deep into the expensive beige rug, painting the walls in splatters, leaving a trail from the bed to the middle of the room where the body had been dragged.
“Wow,” he gasped under his breath, imagining the horror of being ripped apart in the night.
“Pretty bad, huh?” Y/N said sadly, eyes watering as she stared at the ruined bedsheets, the knocked over side table, the curtains sprayed with crimson.
Sam nodded, looking back over his shoulder. “Do you mind if I…”
“Yeah, do what you need to do,” Y/N agreed quickly and turned away, falling back against the wall next to the door. Her breath was shaky, shoulders high and tense. She closed her eyes but the blood remained. She held hummed to herself, but Robbie’s screams were still fresh in her ears.
Dean saw her panic and reached out a hand, cupping her elbow gently.
She startled, pulling in a heavy breath as she looked up to find him there, brows creased with concern, same old Dean.
“You OK?” he asked, voice barely a whisper.
Y/N shook her head and wrapped her arms around her chest, fingers brushing against Dean’s. “I haven’t been back in there since,” she confessed dryly. “Been sleeping on the couch. Can’t even go in to get my clothes.”
Dean sighed and gave her elbow a squeeze. “I’m really sorry.” He looked up as if there was a pamphlet on how to comfort an ex lover over the death of her husband written on the ceiling, but there was nothing helpful; just a photo of Robbie and Y/N at some party, smiling and happy.
“That him?” Dean asked, nodding up to the framed picture.
Y/N twisted a bit, pushing herself off of the wall to look. “Yeah.” She smiled. “He’s really great. I think you’d like him.” Darkness flashed over her eyes and she bit her lip. “Was. He was really great. Fuck. Dean, what am I gonna do?”
His heart broke as she looked up for an answer. “I don’t know, Y/N/N,” he told her honestly, sadness tightening his throat. “But I’m gonna help you get through this first part, ok? I promise.”
His smile was sad but true and she grabbed his hand, holding it tight.
Dean was only supposed to stay a week. Just one week to rest and recharge before meeting up with John in Milwaukee.
The week had come and gone, but Dean was still in town, still creeping around the Bluebird Motel, still hanging around with Y/N.
Two weeks of sneaking into the alley during her breaks to kiss until the mood grew desperate.
Two weeks of staying late to walk her home through the dark, hand in hand, fingers entwined, steps in sync.
Two weeks of picking her up early on her days off and driving the winding back roads with the windows down and Zep on the radio.
Two weeks of passionate touches in the backseat, biting kisses in the woods by the lake, inexperienced but eager tongues colliding in every shadow.
Two weeks were slowly becoming three, three faded to four, and as summer began to fade, John’s phone calls to his son became more and more demanding.
Dean had to go.
“You could stay, ya know,” Y/N said softly, her fingers curled around his, her back resting against his chest.
They sat on the hood and watched the moonlight dance across the lake, black still ink split by pale yellow.
Dean bent his lips to her temple. “I can’t, baby. I’m sorry.” His young voice cracked around the hurt. “I gotta go. My dad needs me.”
“I need you, Dean.” Her whisper was bookended by heavy breaths that carried tears.
“You don’t understand,” Dean sighed. “I’m all he’s got.”
She shuddered against him, trying not to give in to the hurt, the pain of him actually leaving. She knew he never meant to stay, but the longer he was there, the longer he was hers, the harder it was to let him go.
Dean wrapped his arm around her tight and held on, burying his nose in her hair, breathing deep. “I’d stay if I could, you know that.”
She didn’t speak for a long while, didn’t move other than to breathe. When she finally returned to the moment, Y/N kissed his arm and pushed away, sliding off of the cool metal and hitting the grass with a thud.
“Come here, Dean,” she said with a smile, turning away even as she called him, facing the lake.
He watched in awe and sadness as Y/N shed her clothes, stripping quickly in the moonlight and dipping a toe into the lake. She shivered and then went for it, running in a few yards before jumping, disappearing beneath the surface like a mermaid in the deep ocean.
“Dean! Come on!”
The water was cold but he made it, swimming over to where she tread water, haloed by the reflection of the moon.
She brushed up against him, wrapping her arms around his shoulders and pulling him close. Their lips met in a familiar rhythm while she floated against his nakedness, skin on skin, soft in the water.
“I love you, Dean,” she whispered, water pouring down from her hair to hide the tears. Dean kissed them away, holding her tight. “I think I’m always gonna love you.”
They fucked in the backseat; scratchy blanket laid out to catch the lake as it slid from their bodies. It was slow but desperate, out of time and a little bit clumsy. They both needed it to last, needed to remember every moment, but the heat of youth sped up time and soon Dean was dropping Y/N off at her house, midnight moon starting to turn towards the west.
He never went back.
Dean had promised to meet her before work the next morning, just one last goodbye, but he never showed.
Sometimes he imagined her standing outside the little diner; apron slung over her shoulder, waiting, straining her neck to look down the road for him. Did she cry? Did she scream and curse his name? He’d never find out.
He never went back.
Sam’s voice echoed a bit in the hallway. “Uh, Dean?”
Y/N nodded towards the room, letting Dean know that she was OK.
“What’s the deal?” he asked, carefully stepping over the muck and gore that decorated the floor.
“Well,” Sam began, kneeling down to lift the edge of the carpet. “Here’s your animal scratches…” Long gashes were carved into the hardwood, massive claws unlike any bear markings they’d ever seen.
“Ok…”
Sam sighed and popped up, motioning for Dean to follow him to the window. The sill was caked in yellow powder. “Sulfur.”
Dean groaned. “Oh, that’s not good.”
“No, it’s not.”
The door creaked as Y/N leaned against it, barely more than half a foot inside the room.
Dean turned to her. “Y/N? Did your husband… uh…” He didn’t know how to ask suddenly. Looking at her sad eyes, standing amidst the blood of her dead husband, Dean was lost for words.
Sam found them, jumping in to help. “Did Robbie come into any wealth over the last ten years? Maybe a promotion at work, or a miraculous health cure? Anything strange like that?”
Y/N moved away from the door and took a step inside. A chill ran down her spine and she hugged herself, shivering at the scene. When she saw the rug pulled back, saw the deep scratches on the floor, she let out a sob that nearly knocked her over.
Dean rushed to her side, hands cautiously grabbing her upper arms to help her stand. “It’s ok, we can do this later.”
She shook her head and looked up at Dean, taking a deep breath to calm down. “It was his job,” she said steadily.
Dean frowned, wanting to grab her and hold her close. “What was?”
“He made the deal for a promotion at work,” she said simply.
Across the room, Sam jerked on his feet, a little shocked by the new information. “Wait, so you know what happened?”
Y/N broke away from Dean and nodded. “Yeah, I know. He told me all about it when he did it.” She moved to stand in the middle of the room, looking down at the space Robbie’s body had laid. “Sold his soul to a red eyed crossroads demon who breezed into town one night.”
Dean’s shoulders fell and he rubbed at this cheek. “I’m so sorry, Y/N.”
“He knew what he was doing,” she said, quietly. “So did I.”
Sam flinched. “What?”
Y/N swallowed hard and explained. “He made his deal for money,” she said. “I made mine for love.”
Slowly, she turned to look at Dean who hadn’t moved in forever. His lips parted and his eyes went blank as the gears took a moment to turn in his head.
“You did what?” His heart was racing, lungs refusing to do their job.
The wetness in her eyes began to fall, dripping down her cheeks like rain on a window, untouched, unguided. “I couldn’t get over you, Dean,” she whispered. “Robbie was always there, ya know? Even when I was growing up. Always. Always picking up the pieces of my shitty little life, but after you left, there were just too many pieces. He wasn’t gonna wait around for me forever, and I didn’t blame him. I tried, Dean. I tried so hard to forget you, to get over you, but…” She stopped to breathe, lips trembling as she cried. “He was gonna leave me too, so I…”
“You made a deal,” Sam finished, nodding to himself in understanding.
“I did.”
Dean felt the world moving beneath his feet; gravity was making itself known to him and his stomach couldn’t take it. He slumped forward, hands hitting his thighs. “How could you do that?” He stood back up, panting around the pain in his chest. “How could you do that!”
Y/N crossed her arms and shook her head, looking to the ceiling, to the bloody bed, anywhere but at Dean. “I sold my soul to forget you, Dean Winchester,” she said finally, tears drying as the pain returned. Dean Winchester, my first true love, my burning sun. I sold my sold to a demon to be free of you forever. And yet, here you are, back to haunt me during my last hours…”
Dean’s head rolled to the side and back as his tears fell. “I don’t know what to do,” he cried. “I don’t know how to fix this!”
Sam called to him, hoping to break his brother’s rage, but he once again went ignored.
“I don’t know how to help you, Y/N! I don’t know how to break a demon deal! I…”
Y/N closed the space between them and lay a hand on his chest. “Dean…”
“I don’t know what to do!”
She pushed up on her toes and kissed his cheek. “You do what you did all those years ago. You get in your car and drive away.”
Dean crumbled. “No. I shouldn’t have left you. I can’t do that.”
“You’re going to. I knew the terms when I made the deal. I just didn’t think I’d have to say goodbye to you again. So… please… just go so I don’t have to. Do me that one favor.”
He kissed her hard, hands holding her face still as he pushed every ‘I’m Sorry’, every missed ‘I Love You’ into it. When it was done, so was he, and Dean let her go, turning on his heel and rushing for the door.
Y/N watched them go, standing at the top of the stairs as they reached her front door. Dean paused, hand slipping from the antique knob before following Sam outside.
He turned, green eyes lifting to the top of the stairs. “Y/N…”
She smiled and gave him a tiny wave.
“I’ll see you in Hell, Dean Winchester.”

The task of the international supplier is unseen for tax settlements in the United States. The distributor is not subject to registration for tax obligation negotiations. The distributor is also not obliged to check the residential supply right now that the customer takes the goods from the warehouse. The tax obligation settlement occurs only at the buyer's properties when the goods are collected from the stores.
At the time of non-compliance-- i. e. lack of goods kept in the consignment storehouse or their full damage-- the storage facility operator is required to inform the head of the tax obligation workplace. Antique Champagne - CH39 - Turning Up the Heat
Payne was surprised the man sitting across the table was not sweating bullets, given both herself and Fahrenheit were glaring menacingly at him. The ease with which he sat and talked, confidently expounding each chem he pulled individually from an oversized cooler placed at his heels, spoke to his gift for words that rivaled Hancock’s in pure effortless charisma. The idiom ‘selling maple syrup to a Canuck’ stuck in Payne’s head, even though she hated that prewar turn of phrase.
Payne studied his travel-stained clothes and honeyed words, searching for anything out of place or ingenuine. From his hole-riddled boots to messily patched trench coat, he seemed every bit the road-weary trader he claimed to be… even if no one had ever seen him before.
“So, Bryan,” Hancock rested his chin on his fist, surveying the goods laid before him. “You’ve got a decent range of chems here, both medicinal and recreational, but why should Goodneighbor strike a deal with you? You must be pretty new to these parts. I’ve never heard of you. Who exactly are you selling for? What makes these chems better than what we can make ourselves?”
Bryan grinned, a wide shit eating smile. “Listen to this guy!” he turned as if to joke with Fahr, who was having none of it. “Who am I selling for?! Who am I selling for?” He leaned forward on his elbows. “I am selling for you! From what I hear, you guys are hurting for chems. We wouldn’t want a real shortage to make waves in this good-ol’ party town. Second, my supplier is an up an’ comer in the chem trade but the eggheads got lotsa ideas, shit that is bleeding edge!” He darted his eyes around the room. “Things like this little baby right here…” He pulled a Jet canister out of a pocket, but this one had a light-yellow band circumscribed around the dusty red canister.
“This ain’t your momma’s Jet!” He placed it down on the table before the Mayor. “And don’t mistake this for your everyday Ultrajet, either. It’s something brand new.” Hancock picked up the palm-sized inhaler, inspecting it as the man prattled on. “This little lady doesn’t even have a name yet, that’s how new she is… but she’s got a smoother, longer high than anything else out there. Great for blasting through those tough patches in life, if you know what I mean.” Hancock shook it next to his ear, listening to the liquid inside before setting it down on the table.
Bryan leaned back, spreading his arms wide on the back edge of the couch. “Now, I won’t say the formula is perfect yet, it’s got a nasty aftertaste… and it’s difficult to produce. That’s why I only have a few canisters ready for sale… but I’m the only one in the whole Commonwealth who has any. In fact, you are the first person I’ve had the pleasure of showing her to.”
“So no one else in the ‘Wealth has tried it?” Hancock pointedly asked, a naked brow arching.
“Like I said… no one outside the lab has any idea that she even exists.” Bryan absently twirled a strand of his long greasy hair. Payne wondered if he had found a cache of hair grease somewhere and slathered his head with every jar, given how saturated his hair looked. At least, she hoped it was some product and not something else.
The Mayor picked up the chem, quizzically examining it again. “I only let in chems I’ve personally tested.”
“Sure thing, boss… you can have my whole supply,” he leaned in and stuck out a hand, “If we have a deal.”
Hancock eyed him over once before grinning, shaking his right hand while keeping the new chem with his left. The deal struck, the inhaler quickly found its way to his lips and he took a generous hit. Immediately he coughed.
“Damn, that tastes like ass!” he spat.
“Told you it needs some work in the flavor department. Just give’er a moment.”
Hancock’s grimace turned to a gradual light, smirk as he sunk back into the couch cushions. “There it is…” With a little chuckle he turned to Fahr. “Fahr, can you take our new friend downstairs and work out the details, please. Clear my schedule, this little lady and I are going to need some time to get intimately acquainted.”
Fahr nodded, motioning to the door.
Bryan gestured to the cache of chems on the table. “I’ll just leave these here, if you don’t mind. I’m sure they will find a good home.” He got up and followed Fahr out the door.
“You going to be okay, Boss?” Payne asked.
“Oh yeah, I’m going to be just fine. I think I’m going to retire for a bit.” He stood up and started to walk across the hall to his bedroom. “Why don’t you avail yourself to the shower? Get all freshened up after last night. The hot water should do you some good.”
Payne was about to decline, but she realized that he was right. The night had been particularly stressful. A hot shower would indeed help ease her nerves.
“You know, that does sound good,” she agreed.
With a tip of his hat, Hancock disappeared into his bedroom.
Back in her room, Payne gathered the things she needed to shower. She picked up each item almost robotically. Clothes. Towel. Hairbrush. Toothpaste. On her way back upstairs, something started to take shape on the edges of her mind. As she closed the creaking door, a thought niggled in the shadows of the bathroom mirror. She stared silently at her reflection as she let her hair down and stripped to her tank top. The constant lazy drip from the makeshift showerhead hitting the galvanized water trough turned tub grated her nerves.
What is it? She frowned at herself. Focusing, she reran meeting Bryan through her mind. He easily schmoozed with everyone, seemingly completely at ease in a place he had never been. Granted, Goodneighbor tended to be a welcoming place, given you did not underestimate the inherent danger of the town. But that wasn’t it. She moved on to the end of the deal.
In her mind Bryan sat there, cool as a mutfruit, shaking the Mayor’s hand full of smiles and twirling his greasy hair. His eyes followed Hancock, never leaving him, his fingers twisting his hair. They didn’t stop until the Jet inhaler left his lips.
He was nervous! He wanted… needed… to see Hancock to take a hit.
WHY?
Unnerved, Payne turned and padded across the hall. She didn’t know the why, but she had to tell Hancock about this. As she reached up to knock on the peeling wooden door, she heard a crash.
“Boss?”
Nothing.
“Hancock?” Payne pushed open the door. There, on the floor, she saw Hancock laying face down in a crumpled heap. Before she could move, the first thing to hit her was the smell, a wall of putrid fruit.
“JOHN!”
Rushing to his side, she turned him over, finding him covered in frothy purple-tinged vomit, his eyes rolled back in his skull. Even through his long coat, she could feel the heat radiating off him. Immediately she began stripping him out of what clothes she could, sweat pooling and dripping down his clammy scalding skin.
“I NEED SOME HELP UP HERE!” she called out. His shirt and coat removed, she picked him up. He was too hot, almost boiling alive in his skin. She had to get him cool. As she reached the hallway, she heard boots pounding up the stairs, two watchmen racing up.
She issued ordered without halting her steps. “You: don’t let that dealer leave. You: get Amari. NOW!”
Payne crossed into the bathroom and gently put the unconscious ghoul on the floor, his limbs twitching sporadically. “Stay with me, John,” she whispered.
She turned the shower with the cold water on full blast, carrying Hancock’s overheating body under the stream. Quickly, Payne realized that his lifeless figure could easily slip under the water. Pulling him on top of her, she slid into the tub, holding him under the icy-cold water and his head up and away from the spray. Repositioning her own tense body slightly, Payne sat in such a way to occlude the drain, causing the water level to begin to rise up the sides of the trough.
Payne didn’t hear the footsteps over the gushing showerhead. Luckily, Dr. Amari’s distinctive infuriated voice preceded her.
“What are you doing?” she demanded as she stepped through the bathroom’s threshold.
“Something’s wrong. He’s burning up, bad,” Payne answered.
Sliding to her knees next to the tub, Amari quickly examined Hancock. She recoiled slightly as Hancock started to shake before releasing another deluge of fragrant vomit.
“He sampled some kind of new Jet.” Payne struggled to keep her employer’s head from slipping under the spray, her extremities starting to go numb for the cold.
Amari nodded. “This appears to be escalating quickly. We need to stop his body from reacting to whatever is causing this, or there will be nothing left to save.” Her face was grim. “Addictol. Where is it?”
As succinctly as she could, Payne described the location of Hancock’s reserve stash of the powerful anti-addiction drug. Returning with the innocuous looking inhaler, Amari again kneeled beside the soaking wet pair.
“I’m going to need you to assist.” Payne nodded. Amari readied the canister. “Hold his head still and cover his sinuses as best you can. We need to keep as much of this in his system as we can.” She grimaced. “The body’s reaction is going to be immediate, possibly violent.”
Payne adjusted her grip, steadying herself for what was to come. She had never seen the results of a dose of Addictol, but she knew its reputation. Amari’s warning proved prudent; the inhaler was barely out of his mouth when fierce muscle spasms wracked Hancock’s body, causing him to thrash wildly in the metal tub. In short order, his body, aided by the drug, began expelling anything foreign in his system via the fastest route.
Once the worst was over, Amari checked his vitals again. She reached over and turned the water off, his fever breaking. Nearly without words, the two worked in unison to strip Hancock out of his sodden and soiled clothes, laying him on the bathroom floor. Payne wrapped him in the towel and clothes she had brought for her own shower, looking to Amari for guidance.
“He’s not out of the woods yet. I need to examine him more thoroughly. Who knows what kind of damage may have already been done.”
Payne thought for a moment. “Go. Have whoever is nearby hold open every door from here to the Den. Tell people to stay out of the way. I’ll give you a minute’s head start. After that, I’m getting him to you as fast as I can.” Payne would get Hancock to Amari’s lab and she didn’t give a shit about anything or anybody in between.
Amari nodded and left. Silently, Payne counted, shivering and dripping in the claustrophobic bathroom. Nothing about Hancock’s prone body changed as she finished. Gently, she lifted him off the floor, securely holding his warm body against hers before sprinting full bore down the stairs and into the street. The town passed by her in a blur.
Bursting through the open doors of the Memory Den, Payne stopped just feet from Irma who let out a small gasp. She had been pacing behind the doctor when Payne appeared holding a nearly naked Hancock.
“Down here,” Amari commanded, not skipping a beat. Payne followed her down into the basement. As she walked, she tried her best to ignore the blisters and cracks flowering on her uncovered face and shoulders. It was a strange sensation; her clothes were still icy cold from the water but the sunburn seared across her skin.
As Amari opened the door, she motioned to a large couch along the wall. “Put him here while I get the machine ready.”
From in front of a terminal, Curie’s shining white chassis whirled around. “Oh, mon Dieu! What has happened?”
“That is what we are going to find out.” Amari stated. “I may need your assistance. Your knowledge of organic chemistry and drug synthesis may come in very handy soon, but right now, I need to examine Hancock.”
“Of course!” Curie buzzed optimistically. “I will go and procure appropriate accommodations for Monsieur Hancock.”
Payne stepped back, allowing the doctor to work. Amari toiled away swiftly calibrating some contraption while taking fastidious notes as she went over the events that lead to Payne discovering Hancock on the floor. Payne’s heart seemed like it would burst through her chest. She felt completely useless, standing idly in the corner, relegated to only watching and waiting. The only time she could help was when Amari asked her to move Hancock to the glass covered lounger so she could examine his brain activity. The very thought that something might have damaged his brain made Payne internally recoil.
Soon Curie returned with Irma and Kent in tow. The pair managed to manhandle an old hospital gurney down the stairs and into the room. The time seemed to move agonizingly slow, especially since Payne could do nothing to help.
After a while, Amari took notice. “We can take it from here, Payne. There’s not much for you to do for now.” Payne didn’t move. Amari put down her clipboard. “Payne?”
“I’m not going anywhere.” Payne stated very matter-of-factly.
Amari rubbed the bridge of her nose. After a moment, she motioned to a folding chair resting in the corner. “At least sit down. We need to work on him.”
Taking the hint, Payne walked over. Just before she reached out, she heard heavy boots on the stairs and turned around defensively. Rushing through the door, Fahrenheit looked around, her stony face etched with stress.
“Doctor.” Her address Amari was more of a demand than a greeting.
“I don’t know anything yet. I’ll update you as soon as I can.”
“That dealer? Did you find him? What did he say?” Payne asked.
“Of course, I found him.” She angrily scoffed. “I found him in an alley after he decided to eat a 38 from his own pistol, the slimy fucker.”
Payne’s thought shifted. “Anything on him? Could you tell where he came from?”
“Like what? You think was he carrying a fucking calling card? He had jack squat.”
“What about the caravan guards?”
“They are detained, but they say they were hired from Bunker Hill. We’ll double check if that is true.”
Payne digested the info. “Make sure to gather up any of the chems this guy had. Lock’em up and post a guard. We have no idea if any or all of the chems are contaminated with something. We don’t need any townsfolk to carry some off. The doctor will need some for testing too.”
“Good thinking!” Curie piped up. “It would be extremely advantageous to be able to test any substances that may have been administered to Monsieur Hancock that lead to this condition.”
Fahr nodded in agreement. She looked expectantly to Payne.
“You wanna get going on that?” Fahr urged, pointing with her thumb to the door.
“No.” Payne stated simply. Payne stood and crossed her arms.
“What?”
“I’m not leaving him.”
Fahr rolled her eyes. “You have got to be fucking kidding me. Take a hike. That’s not a suggestion.”
Payne stayed rooted in place. She may as well have been welded to the floor. “No. I’m not letting him out of my sight. Not until he’s up and around again.”
Fahr started to argue, but it was Amari who cut in. “Payne, we have no idea what kind of shape his brain is in, let alone the rest of his body. With the Addictol coursing through him, we can’t even administer a Stimpak. Whatever his recovery might look like, it is going to be a long one.”
“Then I’ll wait.” Payne grabbed the folding chair and sat, ignoring the colorful insults hurled at her from an enraged Fahrenheit.
Amari finally snapped, her nerves worn thin. “Listen! I don’t care what you two do! Either get out or shut up… unless you don’t want the mayor to wake up!”
Curie stepped in, trying to cool things down. “Madame Fahrenheit, from what I have observed, may I suggest you take over the daily tasks of the mayoral office? You seem the best suited for such a job.”
Fahr glared furiously at Payne, but conceded to Curies point. “Fine, sit your lazy ass down here forever for all I care. It’s not like you could handle running this place anyway!”
“Maybe,” interjected Curie “If we sent word to Monsieur Nate, he would surely be willing to lend a helping hand. He has accumulated quite the impressive resume when it comes to the organizing and administration of settlements.”
Fahrenheit huffed, but agreed. Before leaving Fahr stepped closer to Payne and leaned in. “If anything happens to him while you’re down here, it’s your head on the block.”
