it was 10pm on a monday night when you and your boyfriend, jeno were cuddled up on the couch in your shared apartment. the tv was playing in the background, the channel set to kbs with music bank currently airing. you were on your phone while jeno’s eyes were directed at the screen where a girl group was performing their newest comeback.

the girls were dressed in pretty skirts and pastel tops, faces smiling bright as they boasted perfect visuals.

“wow, they dance so well,” jeno said as he smiled at you. “and they’re so pretty, too.”

you trusted jeno, and he trusted you. deep down, you knew that he would never try to hurt you in any way. this time, he wasn’t even trying to annoy you in any way. but it had been a really long day at work, being yelled at by your manager and having to finish loads of work in such a short amount of time.

with no energy to entertain your boyfriend, you just hummed in response as you continued to scroll through twitter. “mhm.”

“sieun is probably my favourite, she has really pretty eyes.” he continued.

“yep.” you said curtly.

seeing that you were glued to your phone and kept ignoring him, jeno took his phone out of the pocket of his sweatpants and opened his messages app.

after a few seconds, his texts appeared at the top of your screen.

“I'm just tired, jen.” you replied flatly out loud.

“then, do you wanna go to bed? we can go to sleep earlier today.” your boyfriend asked, taking your free hand in his large ones.

you retracted your hand out of his soft grip, causing jeno to furrow his eyebrows in concern. “i’m fine. just go back to watching.”

“y/n, you’re really starting to worry me now.” he turned to face you. “what happened? is it because of work?”

you were still looking at your phone, but your fingers had stopped scrolling and you weren’t concentrating on the video that was playing anymore.

there was silence for a minute. neither you or jeno had said anything for a while, until he finally spoke up. “i-is it because of me?” he said with a voice that was barely louder than a whisper.

“i don’t know, jeno.” you rolled your eyes and spat. “it’s been a really long day and i’m really really tired. maybe this is just the fatigue talking, but I don't think that you gushing over how pretty those idols are and making me insecure has helped me feel any better.”

jeno bit his lip, feeling tears slightly build up in his eyes. he looked at you and sighed. he stretched his arms out to engulf your body in his, stroking your hair.

“i’m sorry, y/n. i’m so sorry.” he said, apologising over and over again as tears rolled down his cheek. “i never meant to make you feel insecure, i was just trying to cheer you up. i’ll never do that again, baby. i’m so sorry.”

you wanted to pretend to be tough, but your boyfriend’s words made you crumble in his embrace. drops of tears fell one by one as jeno lightly rocked the both of you back and forth.

after a while, you slowly peeked out of his chest. “i’m sorry, too. i shouldn't have lashed out on you like that, jen. forgive me?”

“it’s alright, baby. of course i forgive you.” he said as he tucked a strand of hair behind your ear.

“i love you. you know that, right?”

“i know. i love you too, jen.”

and just like that, jeno cradled the both of you to asleep, deep in each other’s warmth.
