Rahu-Ketu Dosha and Marriage 💍❤
I've been seeing this question all over the internet, so I wanted to clarify regarding the Rahu-Ketu dosha and whether you can marry a person without the same dosha and about the cancellation of this particular dosha.
Since there are very few details on this confusion, I wanted to make this post, hope this helps! 🤗
Tumblr media
What is Rahu-Ketu Dosha? 🐍
In your birth chart, if Rahu/Ketu is positioned in the 1st & 7th houses, you are said to have Rahu-Ketu Dosha. If you have it in 2nd and 8th houses, there is a partial dosha.
For clarification, Rahu= North node, Ketu = South node (If you are new to vedic astro terms)
Dosha generally means that the planets/shadow planets are afflicted and will give unfavorable results to the individual.
Imo, a Dosha doesn't make you weak, it makes you different from others. Your ideologies and desires differ a lot from the common population, hence you will be incompatible with them.
In this case, a person with Rahu in 1st and Ketu in 7th can be detached from partnerships and dependencies like marriage and would like to concentrate more on their own personal growth and have huge dreams to achieve. With the reverse of the axis, the individual may not want to settle with commitments but can be interested in flings, their confidence is lacking in themselves and dependent more on their partnerships, they may have dreams to have their own business.
Both of these tendencies are extremes and are considered to be not ideal for the general population, hence, People with Rahu-Ketu dosha are advised to marry the person with the same dosha resulting in its cancellation. It's more like marrying a person who shares ur ideologies and way of life and can understand you better.
What if a person you like has Rahu-Ketu dosha and you don't? Or vice versa? Can you marry each other? 🤯💝
This dosha is strictly considered during marriage match making in Vedic astrology, people who don't have the dosha are advised to not marry a person who has it. But what if you are in love with a person having such placement?
Rahu-Ketu dosha is cancelled up to 90% if the birth chart satisfies any of this two rules:
Rahu/Ketu aspected by Jupiter:
Jupiter 's aspects falls in 5th, 7th and 9th house from where he is positioned. Ex.: A person has virgo ascendant and Rahu on the asc, Jupiter is is Taurus sign, now count the 5th, 7th and 9th house from Jupiter's position. Here, Jupiter's 5th aspect falls on Rahu, hence the dosha is cancelled up to 90% in this birth chart.
The house lord where Rahu/Ketu is present is exalted:
Rahu/Ketu are shadow planets and follow the nature of the zodiac sign it is present in. So if the lordship of the house they are present in is strong, the ill-effects of Rahu-Ketu dosha will be cancelled. Ex.: A person has Cancer ascendant and Rahu on asc, the house ruler of cancer where rahu is present is Moon. Moon is positioned in Taurus (exalted), hence the dosha is cancelled up to 90% in this chart.
If your partner who has this dosha, fulfills either of these conditions, get ready for the wedding bells! 💍💕
What about the remaining 10% of Dosha? How will it play out in case of 90% dosha cancellation? 🤔
You don't have to worry about the remaining 10% of dosha. Only during the Mahadasha (Major planetary period) of Rahu/Ketu, you may feel a tiny amount of ill-effects like confused mental state, uncontrollable desires, minor clashes with your spouse etc.
What if you don't have the dosha cancellation aspects in your chart? Can you still marry a person without this Dosha? 😢💍
Good news, Yes you can! Now, cheer up ❤
This Dosha mainly affects your desires and way of looking at life. If you are in love and have a person who understands you, your views & desires and supports you through everything, it doesn't matter whether they have this dosha or not to match with yours.
Doesn't sound convincing enough?
Here's another good news, there is a concept called 'Gandharva Vivaha' in Vedic terms, which means choosing a person you want to marry, in modern terms- A love marriage. It is said that you don't even have to match birth charts between two people whose hearts have been connected beforehand because it is destined to happen this way.
Are there any remedies for this dosha? 🙏
I personally don't believe that much in remedies but if it works for you, I would advise you to visit Kalahasti temple at Andhra Pradesh, India and participate in the Rahu/Ketu pooja.

Exaltation Series: Moon in Krittika
Tumblr media
An exalted planet means this planet has reached the higher point in its own sky. There, the planet feels free to unleash its power for better... Or worse. The sign where the planet is exalted allows the planet to flourish, as well as the nakshatra where the exaltation degree falls.
Moon Exalted in Krittika
Moon gets exalted at 3° of Taurus which is situated in Krittika nakshatra (Krittika: 26°40 Aries to 10°00 Taurus). Here, the Moon is full of soma, the nectar of immortality. Full of vitality, the Moon has reached an uncommon well-being, which leads to a tremendous charisma and, most importantly, a high dose of desires. Charisma and desires are typical traits of Krittika. Its point of exaltation being in the Taurus part of Krittika, this huge amount of inflamed desires is not perceptible at first. Taurus Krittika natives, especially those with the Moon placed there, will not show the openly Aries-type aggressive and passionate nature of Krittika at first but instead, they will show gentleness, politeness and diplomacy. The Moon full of soma does not need to be violent to get what it wants because the Moon feels SO good. Nothing can resist this charming and attractive Moon here. Krittika is ruled by Agni, the God of fire that sustains life, vitality, health. But Agni is also known for his huge appetite. He possesses 7 tongues and he eats the offerings of the mortals to the Gods. Moon's desires get amplified: love of the material world and luxuries get exacerbated. However, Agni is also the messenger to the Gods hence having two heads, one that looks at the world down there and the heavenly realms. Moon exalted here can offer to the natives a spiritual impulse depending on the rest of the chart. It also shows their capability to adapt themselves in different environments and their ability to communicate well. The Moon is the Queen of your chart, she needs to be surrounded by people and she knows how to gently adapt herself. The interesting part of Krittika is the other co-ruler, who is Kartikeya. Kartikeya has a link with Agni as Agni acted as the incubator during his conception. Kartikeya was not born as a child but as a warrior. He did not wait long to lead the armies to fight powerful enemies. The Moon's emotional strength has reached its peak in Krittika and nothing can stop them: the natives are secretly endowed with a warrior nature. The Moon does not like to be disturbed, the Moon wants peace: the Queen will find associates to get rid of those who dare upset her as well as her loved ones. Agni is fire; Moon is water: Moon's point of exaltation shows the mysterious intimate link between fire and water. The Agnichayana ritual involves a huge fire that brings rain; Kartikeya's conception was supported by both Agni the fire and the waters of Ganges. When the exalted Moon gets afflicted, it ignores the ethics. The desires come before everything else. Agni did not hesitate to pretend to be someone else to seduce the wives of a sage... Self-centeredness of a strong and afflicted exalted Moon can lead to overconfidence. Overconfidence leads to thoughtless actions and multiple disasters. Weak exalted Moon natives (waning Moon) will think twice before taking action and they might feel they are not self-confident enough though. Weak or strong exalted Moon in Krittika natives may deal with phobias, mental health issues and impatience. The queen can quickly feel frustrated and jealous, so, do not bother her... Otherwise, you will be surprised!

ASTRO BASICS #4: UNDERSTANDING DOMICILE, EXALTED, DETRIMENT AND FALL PLACEMENTS (ESSENTIAL DIGNITIES)
personal planets version
THE ESSENTIAL DIGNITIES:
domicile: the planet is in it's home sign (comfortable)
exaltation: the planet is elevated (comfortable)
detriment: the planet is opposite to the home sign (uncomfortable)
fall: the planet is opposite to the exalted sign (uncomfortable)
when a planet is in domicile or exaltation it means the planet is comfortable in the sign it is in. this results in:
the placement becoming powerful (strong)
the placement being "too much" (overabundance of the planet's energy)
when a planet is in detriment or fall it means the planet is uncomfortable in the sign it is in. this results in:
the placement becoming weak and poorly expressed
the placement becoming "embarrassed" with how to behave or express itself (leads to coping)
BRIEF EXPLANATIONS ON THE PERSONAL PLANETS:
☉ SUN - IDENTITY:
domicile in leo, exalted in aries
♡ why it's powerful: confident and focused on the self as the sun wants to be.
♡ why it's too much: self-absorbed and places themselves at the centre of attention and situations (without the consideration of others).
detriment in aquarius, fall in libra
♡ why it's weak - aquarius: focused on society, ideals and groups (other people) and not the self and only knows who they are in relation to (their knowledge on) these things (which is other people). feels left out - alienated or isolated, black sheep.
♡ why it's weak - libra: insecure and focused on other people and seeks approval from others to validate identity. self-unaware and only knows who they are in relation to other people (who they're around or who they idealise).
☽ MOON - EMOTIONS, COMFORT, SUBCONSCIOUS:
domicile in cancer, exalted in taurus
♡ why it's powerful: secure, unfiltered emotional expression. easily defined emotions which can be translated effectively - "predictable" and expected emotions. treats (takes care of and spoils) themselves easily. naturally trusting.
♡ why it's too much: overindulgent in order to seek comfort, doesn't easily understand different emotional expressions, ruled by their emotional life (moody to the outside world). naive and too easily emotionally attached.
detriment in capricorn, fall in scorpio
♡ why it's weak: hard relationship with the mother, insecure and restricted emotional expression. secretive and suspicious. afraid of allowing themselves to seek out comfort. doesn't form close connections easily.
☿ MERCURY - THINKING, COMMUNICATION:
domicile in gemini (extroverted expression) and virgo (introverted expression), exalted in aquarius
♡ why it's powerful: quick thinkers and active communicators. • gemini: easily communicates with all people • virgo: highly effective planners and clever strategists • aquarius: lightning bolt epiphanies, understands different forms of information easily.
♡ why it's too much - gemini (extroverted expression): talks too much and too quickly (misses words, tells stories in the wrong order, lies etc.). says the wrong thing, can't be silent (offends and overshares).
♡ why it's too much - virgo (introverted expression): too practical (overly focused on plans and details), nagging, particular, pedantic.
♡ why it's too much - aquarius: easily defined by their knowledge - god complex.
detriment in sagittarius and pisces, fall in leo
♡ why it's weak - sagittarius: meaning over facts (and turns personal experiences into facts), unable to explain themselves effectively and tells stories in a confusing way.
♡ why it's weak - pisces: says one thing but means another, naive communicators (can be easily lied to), logic easily swayed by emotions.
♡ why it's weak - leo: one-way communicators, doesn't understand what others are saying easily, dramatic and ineffective storytelling.
♀︎ VENUS - LOVE, CONNECTION, MATERIAL:
domicile in libra (extroverted expression) and taurus (introverted expression), exalted in pisces.
♡ why it's powerful - libra (extroverted expression): connects easily with others, easily understands others' needs and wants, sharing and fair to others.
♡ why it's powerful - taurus (introverted expression): understands security and earthly matters, understanding of and appreciation for beauty and aesthetics, naturally sensual.
♡ why it's powerful - pisces: easily able to connect and empathise with others, flexible and adaptable to the lives of others, sharing and giving.
♡ why it's too much: lacks independence (needs possessions or other people) • libra: people pleasers, overly focused on romance • taurus: hedonistic and hoarding (possessive) • pisces: easily loses themselves in others.
detriment in aries and scorpio, fall in virgo
♡ why it's weak: self-concerned, can't easily open up to others and share. • aries: too selfish for give and take with others • scorpio: love has conditions (can't naturally give of themselves) • virgo: too critical of other people, perfectionistic and unaccepting.
♂MARS - HOW WE GO AFTER WHAT WE WANT, INITIATIVE, INDEPENDENCE:
domicile in aries and scorpio, exalted in capricorn
♡ why it's powerful: go after what they want straightforwardly, stands up for themselves, good energy and not lethargic about their goals.
♡ why it's too much: selfish and goes after what they want at the expense of others. • aries: blunt and inconsiderate (their rights over your rights) • scorpio: easily jealous of others and revenge-seeking (wants to tear others down, their rights over your rights) • capricorn: ruthless. can be extremely malicious and cruel, doesn't care who they hurt to achieve their goals even more so than aries and scorpio.
detriment in libra and taurus, fall in cancer
♡ why it's weak: procrastinating, lazy and can't stand up for themselves (sometimes needs others to stand up for them or needs others to help them do things - doesn't want to do things alone) • libra: stands up for others and causes but not themselves, feels the need to manipulate others to get their way, passive • taurus: inappropriate anger (anger simmers for long periods - is patient until they explode, creates unclear boundaries with others), passive about going after what they want • cancer: can't stand up for themselves and throws tantrums instead, argues too emotionally.

Planetary strength and dignity in a natal chart - part 1
In Vedic astrology, several key concepts help determine planets' strength and dignity in a natal chart. These concepts provide insights into how well planets function and deliver their results. This information is essential when analyzing a natal chart, as it helps evaluate the potential of each planet and understand what to expect in the specific areas of life that each planet influences. Western astrology uses the terms "domicile" or "own sign" or "exaltation", when speaking about the strongest positions, and "debilitation" or "detriment" (sometimes also "exile") when referring to the weakest positions. Similarly, the Vedic (Jyotish) tradition utilizes its own terms.
The strongest planetary placement - exaltation or Uccha (sanks.)
Meaning: Exaltation is the highest point of dignity for a planet, where it operates with maximum strength and delivers the best possible results. A planet in exaltation can express its qualities in the most elevated and positive way. Uccha covers a specific degree of a Zodiac sign.
Uccha Significance: Uccha (exaltation) is the most favourable position for a planet in Vedic astrology. When a planet is exalted, its energy is expressed at its highest potential, leading to positive results in the areas of life it influences. Exalted planets bring strength, ease of manifestation, and balanced expression of their natural qualities, often leading to success, growth, and fulfilment. However, it is important to manage the power of exalted planets wisely to avoid excessive or imbalanced expression of their energy.
Planets:
for Sun Uccha is 10° of Aries
for Moon Uccha is 3° of Taurus
for Mercury Uccha is 15° of Virgo
for Mars Uccha is 28° of Capricorn
for Jupiter Uccha is 5° of Cancer
for Venus Uccha is 27° of Pisces
for Saturn Uccha is 20° of Libra
for Rahu Uccha is 20° of Taurus
Why Rahu is the strongest in Taurus: Taurus, ruled by Venus, is an earth sign associated with material wealth, stability, comfort, sensual pleasures, and practicality. It represents groundedness, persistence, and a desire for security and material success. Rahu is a shadow planet that craves material gains, worldly desires, and sensory pleasures. In Taurus, Rahu finds an environment that aligns well with its desires for material achievements and physical comforts. Rahu's ambitions and worldly pursuits are well-supported by Taurus's stability and capacity to accumulate wealth.
for Ketu Uccha is 20° of Scorpio
Why Ketu is the strongest in Scorpio: Scorpio, ruled by Mars, is a water sign associated with deep emotions, transformation, and the mysteries of life and death. It deals with intense change, regeneration, and exploring the hidden aspects of existence. Ketu is a planet that seeks detachment from the material world and aims for spiritual evolution, often through intense life experiences. Scorpio’s energy of transformation aligns perfectly with Ketu’s purpose of leading an individual through transformative spiritual journeys. Ketu in Scorpio facilitates deep internal change, helping the native transcend material desires and move toward spiritual growth.

Exalted Planets
When a planet is exalted in a sign that means its energy is easily expressed through it. There is potential and motivation when a planet is exalted. While mostly considered a favorable placement, even when planets are exalted, they still have challenges they may face.
Sun in Aires is exalted, this is the easiest place for the Sun. This makes since considering Aries is closely tied to individuality, independence, forwardness, assertiveness, and confidence. The Fire element is very self-focused but Aries tends to carry the stereotype the most. They do represent the head of the body, beginnings, the first, the winner, there is a special self-interest and definition of self for this sign. It is all about personality and ego in a very raw form. But Aries can still worry about what others think - they may care from a more selfish point of view, but they aren't totally immune to self-doubt. This is an impatient and brash sign, and due to their focus on competition, conflict, wants, and ambition they may lack introspection or easily be blinded to their flaws.
Moon in Taurus is exalted, this placement for the Moon is comfortable. The Taurus Moon is steady, takes their time making decisions, can find inner security, and relies on their down-to-earth strength and intuition. They can easily get in touch with both their creativity and practicality. But Moon in Taurus can be incredibly stubborn and find it hard to change their mind - especially about how they feel. They can be naturally cautious, but this can sometimes be pushed to the extreme of being suspicious. Taurus's traits of jealousy, possessiveness, and materialism can still exist here. Moon in Taurus can have a deep insecurity surrounding stability and wanting.
Mercury is exalted in Virgo, Mercury is expressed with ease here but is also refined. Mercury is still quick-witted, clever, curious, and can have a silver-tongue in Virgo - but Mercury in Virgo is also more patient, logical, practical, and efficient. Mercury gets less scattered in Virgo, it is still flexible, funny, maybe gossipy, and certainly smart, but attentive and detail oriented. But Mercury in Virgo can over think, have a lot of restless energy or anxiety, their perfectionist trait can be both a pro and con, and their critical side can be challenging, they likely are their biggest critic. Because Virgo is sometimes sourced as being associated with prudence, shyness, humility, and being accommodating it may surprise that talkative and social Mercury is most comfortable here. But maybe this placement can help clear up misunderstanding for the sign, also it is important to remember Mercury doesn't just rule communication.
Venus is exalted in Pisces, Venus here gets to be the hopeless romantic, the poet, the dreamer, the artist, the lover. Venus in Pisces is very romantic, is imaginative, giving, self-sacrificing, likely affectionate, passionate, and adaptable. Venus in Pisces is not afraid of intimacy in fact this placement is known for trying to join or become one with a partner, sometimes at risk of losing themselves in a partner. Pisces has sometimes been referred to as the one sign that can seem to be compatible with any other sign (Gemini also has gotten this reputation too). But while Venus in Pisces can find it easy to get along with others and easy to love they can be used, put others on a pedestal, may fall in love with an idea or fantasy rather than the actual person, can be manipulative or easily manipulated themselves, and find it hard to separate.
Mars is exalted in Capricorn, Mars in this placement has its sh#@ together. Mars may not seem as impatient or hot-headed here but this is where the planet of war can be strategic, disciplined, thoughtful, and ambitious. While Capricorn usually has a reputation for being cold know this placement is still fully assertive, hungry, and sensual. Mars in Capricorn has good judgment for being cautious and waiting vs. taking action. There can be a ruthlessness about them or a controlling side, which can be seen as flaws, but Mars being the planet of force, aggression, passion, action that can be debatable. Mars in Capricorn can sometimes lack the wisdom or luck that can come with brash decisions and instinct. They can also be hard-headed at times or rely too much on practicality or logic. Mars in Capricorn can also find it hard to express or accept their more physical and passionate side in terms of love and intimacy, despite having a high libido or having ambitious desires in relationships.
Jupiter is exalted in Cancer, expanding and generous Jupiter may feel cozy in this sign. Here Jupiter is nurturing, caring, romantic, giving, sensitive, intuitive, and creative. Jupiter is the planet of expansion and with the depths of Cancer many describe this placement has having never-ending generosity, understanding, and sympathy. Abundance comes in warm, healing waters or "killing with kindness". This placement can be loyal, protective, and craves emotional attachment. Jupiter may at times dramatize the flaws of Cancer through being over-protective, easily used by others, may have a touchy or moody side that blinds them, and their attachment may become smothering and/or toxic. There is a soothing and gentle side to this placement but there can also be a stormy side. They may indulge in emotional thrills which could turn a normally cautious and compassionate sign to more of a risk taker or reckless. This placement has potential for experiencing the human condition in a beautiful and sensitive way, they can be great counselors, teachers, and healers. This placement may learn a lot about listening to their intuition and feelings - but they have to be careful of never giving into their own ghosts and waves.
Saturn is exalted in Libra, here Saturn can stay cool-headed and logical but is lightened by this Air sign. Saturn in Libra is able to see both sides of an argument, is objective, patient, and seeks harmony. However Saturn in Libra likely seeks harmony through justice, laws, rules, and structure. This highly intellectual, independent, and calm placement has the advantage of appreciating beauty and believes in fairness but may find that they struggle with intimacy, can be overly detached or logical in relationships, and may always struggle with give and take dynamics or finding balance and equality. Here Saturn is the judge, lawyer, debater, diplomat, and mediator. Maturity involves listening to others, compromise, and cooperation. But Saturn in any sign will still struggle or be challenged when Saturn Return comes around. The relationship between self-love and self-discipline is an important lesson or theme for this placement.
***the most outer planets are debated on their exaltation, some believe all 3 (Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) have no assigned exaltation. It is also a common belief that only Pluto has no official exaltation.***
Uranus is exalted in Scorpio, in the sign of transformations + the planet of chaos and change make an intense and unpredictable placement. Here Uranus finds empowerment, liberation, freedom, and rebellion. Uranus is comfortable outside their comfort zone and it doesn't fear anything Scorpio has for it. Here someone is compelled to have a deeper understanding and curiosity for the occult, taboo, power, spirituality, or the human condition. The metaphysical is strongly connected to this placement. Uranus in Scorpio soars high and swims deep. Their "higher mind" is focused on intuition and emotional power and understanding. Here Uranus can also become manipulative, cruel, power hungry, and emotionally draining. Here selfishness and separation can be intertwined in obsession, a search for knowledge, or a desire for control. Self-destruction is not a stranger to this placement despite Uranus being easily expressed in Scorpio.
Neptune is exalted in Leo, finding joy and thrills in this sign's grandeur. Neptune is brave in their creativity, romance, and compassion when in Leo. Self-confidence, a healthy ego, bravery, and honor are important values to this group. But pride, arrogance, and illusions around the self may be their challenges. This generation can dream big and a portion of their goals may come to fruition, while others are left as impractical journeys or experiments. There is a generous and maybe righteous power and warmth about them. At best this placement inspires, motivates, protects, and respects others. At worst there are issues revolving around power imbalances, authority, selfishness, and possible self-delusions.
Pluto is commonly considered not to be exalted in any sign, but a popular theory is that it is exalted in Aries. Pluto in Aries burns a freezing fire, helps Pluto to step out of the shadows and embrace the light and flame, and gives this planet movement with decisiveness and action. Pluto can take its hidden and deep passions and intensity and allow it to shine through with Aries's bravery, openness, and independence. But Pluto in Aries may find that a temper or anger issues are related to their undoing. Aries is associated with aggression, destruction, and war. This generation may witness or be a part of many power struggles. Aries is also associated with rebirth or newness, this group may bring a lot of changes to society, they may redefine leadership, and they could reenergize movements or passions. This generation may have a selfish streak, can be insightful about selfishness vs. selflessness, may easily burn out, can struggle with asking for help or be overly independent to where it encourages isolation and unhealthy competition, may be overly focused on individuality and ego. The last time Pluto was in Aries was early to mid 1800s, the next time it will be in this sign is 2068. Because exaltation is usually seen as a positive influence - this generation may bring about many successful and beneficial changes. But because Pluto is a planet of extremes, destruction, regeneration - the negativities may be on a large scale or very intense. Pluto has also been claimed to be exalted in many other signs as well.

To imagine the spirit of poetry is much like imagining the shape and size of the knowing. It is a kind of resurrection light; it is a tall ancestor spirit who has been with me since the beginning, or a bear or a hummingbird. It is a hundred horses running the land in a soft mist, or it is a woman undressing for her beloved in firelight. It is none of these things. It is more than everything.
"You're coming with me, poor thing. You don't know how to listen. You don't know how to speak. You don't know how to sing. I will teach you." I followed poetry.

moon into taurus
hopefully i am not the only one who looks forward to the exaltation of the moon every month. more than just letting this lovely lunation *happen* to you, you can *use* it as a very restful, very luxurious, very pleasurable few days to recharge or just do your best to forgive piddly little tedious tasks. what matters can be done very well in this period, and what does not matter should be abandoned or pushed to a more trifling moon.
