Do you ever think about how almost all of N’s Pokémon throughout the first games were one offs he released after he battled you, how he cared about them all deeply enough that he thought it would be selfish to have them battle more than necessary. And do you ever think about how this is the case with all his Pokémon EXCEPT his Klinklang in the final battle at the league, where the second to last battle he had a Klink and this Klinklang is very likely that same Pokémon? Do you think this was a visual representation of his mindset wavering from a fixed point? How that Klink refused to leave him right away and he couldn’t bring himself to force them to leave because his mind is in so many different directions? He can keep them around just a little longer until he becomes champion, it won’t be long, he can bend things some so long as he doesn’t fully stray from his path…right?

Or is that just me am I the only one willing to be insane about Klinklang of all Pokémon

you can say what you want about watcher!grian but being made into some kind of god against your own will is sick as fuck

i realized that out of the Many pokemon n uses across the two games, none of them are friendship evos. like you'd Think that'd be an easy thing to do with him because putting friendship evos on an antagonist's team to show they're actually nice aside from whatever villainy they're doing is an established thing in pokemon, and it would contrast with ghetsis's frustration hydreigon nicely

but really, it makes sense n wouldn't have any because friendship levels take time to build up. n would ask for help once, and then let the pokemon go, believing it was best for them. but as he learned, pokemon like being with humans. he released them so quickly none of his pokemon would ever have gotten the chance to really connect with him.

and isnt that ironic? the man who connects with pokemon on a deeper level than anyone else probably had less close pokemon friends at the time of bw1 than your average trainer. i'd guess it was just his zoroark at the time. do you think any of those pokemon were upset with him after being released so quickly? i'm sure pokemon are aware being captured can be a lifelong commitment, so being caught and released within an hour or two might not exactly sit well. like sure he probably told them what his intentions were but do you think any of them wished this strange new friend had stuck around a little longer?

grian and scar have now both been in opposite positions to the original 'cactus ring', and it's so interesting to compare their attitudes to sacrifice on both ends. whether or not scar threw the fight in the cactus ring, he did offer for grian to kill him before it began. grian declined this, but was clearly fighting with the intention to win during the fight itself – he's giving scar a chance, but not sacrificing.

in secret life, scar's on the other end of things. he's fighting another winner – who herself has been sacrificed for previously – and, like grian, is going into what he assumes to be a fair fight... but which is in his favour due to the others' willingness to sacrifice themselves for him. this is a common pattern for winners: in whichever order, they take the win once, and are once willing to sacrifice themselves to let another take it.

cut to wild life.

this time, it's grian in the final two once more, yet again against an – albeit more distant – ally. he's got a win under his belt already, so you might expect him to do what pearl did, what scott did, right? sacrifice their chance at glory to let another taste it for the first time.

and yet:

"I'm going to have to kill Joel"

"Can I win this? I worked so hard on this series, I'd love to win it!"

because here's an important thing about life series!grian: though he's willing to even the playing field, he's not willing to sacrifice – not when it matters. pledge your loyalty to right a wrong, yes; give lives to gain allies hours, yes; refuse others' sacrifices to fight on fair terms, yes. but in the end, no matter how much he wants to stick with friends, no matter how bad he feels about it, no matter how may "i'm so sorry"s he gives – he will put his own life first, in the end.

there's a reason he's the reason for so many of his allies' deaths, after all. and in its contrast, the wild life finale showcases this beautifully.

(and for the record, i don't see anything wrong with this from an out-of-univere perspective – it's been 5 seasons and 3.5 years since Grian's last win, and even if it hadn't been, it's the CCs place to judge fairness, not ours.)

So, I finally drew my Evo smp Watcher OC, Mother

She is, like, the head of the Watchers. Theres a whole hierarchy with familial names, in order they are Mother, (Son, but only Grian has that name), Aunt/Uncle, Sister/Brother, Cousin. Grian and Mother have a somewhat complicated relationship. At some point, she banned Grian from playing life games with his friends because she felt it was too distracting, effectively isolating him from anyone not a Watcher. But, Mother was also the one who comforted him when 3rd life ended. He would cry in her lap for days on end, sometimes, because Watchers don't need to eat or drink. She also was the one who made him into a watcher in the first place, a gesture which he greatly appreciates, even with all the troubles it's caused him. There's a lot more to her, but I'll keep it here for now lol.

hi probably gonna be asking tons of stupid questions cause I'm picking back up on my spec bio project again but does anyone have any tips/general advice and things I should be aware of when making sophonts who walk using their front limbs (in this case, wings. they're more pterosaur like than anything) and curl their hind legs up under them and use those as their primary manipulators instead? mostly having trouble understanding how the body should look to properly carry their weight. one is a bit smaller with a much shorter neck and larger head, about the size of a medium to large dog? the other is bigger akin to something like a snow leopard or cheetah with a longer neck and smaller head. every time I try drawing/planning it out something feels. off? I've used references and tried taking after real life pterosaurs but it still looks incredibly wrong

half-crack theory: grian doesnt have many watcher powers anymore. he's not orchestrating wild life, thats still the watchers doing. but then how does grian know of the wild cards? taurtis tells him. he wants to give his friend a head start, an advantage, a way to be safe.
