Xisuma x Dethklok

I drew Xisuma in the style of a Dethklok music video!

I picked this one for him because X is a big fan of metal and I am a big fan of Dethklok, a fictional death metal band from the show Metalocalypse. Even though the band is fictional, they produce real metal and their music is great.

Warning: Metalocalypse is hilarious but also very adult, with graphic depictions of violence and inappropriate themes - this extends to a much of Dethklok's music and music videos as well, so please be aware of that if you decide to look them up. Obviously I wont be posting anything like that here.

Dethklok is a fictional band created by Brendon Small and Tommy Blacha. Small both writes and is the main performer for the band. The band, consisting of 5 members that don't actually exist, are stars of the show Metalocalypse.

In the show, Dethklok has become so popular that they control the entire planet. Nearly every episode ends with the band performing one of their original songs, which somehow causes horrific violence to everyone listening. However, since they are idiots, they also seem oblivious to the destruction their awesome, face-melting, eldritch-beast-summoning music causes...or they just don't care because they're ultra wealthy megastars.

The show heavily, but lovingly, satirizes the metal scene and, less lovingly, the music industry and celebrity in general. The over-the-top gore is played for laughs, but the characters are interesting and endearing. There is genuinely a lot of heart under all that growling and corpse paint and a lot of care goes into their (often very funny) music.

If you are interested in checking out their music and want a PG track, I recommend Go Into the Water. This is one of their few non-violent music videos (big epilepsy warning though) and there's no profanity or graphic imagery in the lyrics. The premise of the song is that the band realized that fish can't listen to metal because they're in the ocean, and they thought that was sad, so they set up a concert just for the fish.

For example Scar’s character collects “fat dust” and it’s his whole thing

Joe got so excited about… being able to sit on couches

Ren crashed (in game) within half an hour and his game crashed like four times due to his graphics card being old and from 2016

They all made bases and Xisuma’s base is called Pro Zoomer. Don’t ask.

False’s base is called Falsetto Ghetto

Joe is basically way ahead of everyone else and is literally on a different planet while everyone’s stuck (and named a planet Joe land)

Ren made a whole sad and whiny ruckus about being alone and wanted to be neighbours with False and sounded really 🥺 when he said “but I have to go really far away from you”

Ren mentioned indoor plants and Xisuma thought he was talking about irl plants and said he doesn’t own irl indoor plants

Ren being awful at building a base (it has three doors and no floor at some point) yet he still asks people to come around and visits other’s bases “for tea” (the Britishness is showing)

We get wacky quotes such as “I know you’re jealous of my lipstick but this has gone too far”

Ren: Lucky that I have a big booty that can handle laser beams

Scar: Not gonna lie that is a big booty

Ren and Scar atp deserve their own post also by the way Scar wanted to crouch in front of Ren’s window. Interpret it whatever way you like

Ren asked Scar to make babies with him and if he would kiss him. Yes in that order

Summary

It is time to go to a new world, led by the ever faithful Admin. No one was expecting interference to take what should have been a routine world switch and turn it into a living nightmare. Now scattered through a dozen separate worlds the Hermits must fight to find each other and come together. Starting with a world that contains a story line that we've seen before but... nothing like this. Trapped and unable to do anything but wait the Hermits must pray that this time the story will go better than any they have seen before.

Fake logo designs of various districts/companies in Hermitcraft S8! Something about Hermitcraft brings out the graphic designer in me (*cough* it’s because I love worldbuilding and making tiny details in a world) anyway!

Design notes under cut! (Alongside some headcanons - it is quite long)

Horse Head Farms: this is the logo that started this idea basically. I got such a cool image of an eclipse with a repeated b+w horse head pattern and I really wanted to make it happen. M.C. Esher has done designs like these but as tiles, which I used as inspiration. I think I could have made it look a bit clearer but for my first time drawing something like this I’m pretty happy. The text is from one of the default Procreate fonts and kinda makes HHF look like a law firm (which is the vibe I was going for, soul-stealers and lawyers are often sorta linked in fiction, and supposedly xB and Hypno are their own legal team). xB and Hypno are the only employees other than the people they blackmail into doing stuff for them.

Big Eyes: I wanted a red eyeball as a reference to Tango’s amazing prank on Boatem and I imagine it’s a goofy little mascot for the company. Some big goofy text felt fitting alongside this. I wanted to make a Pass n Gas specific logo too but I wanted to focus on the main “districts” rather than specific shops. I feel like this is kind of obvious but in-universe Big Eyes are VERY unsuccessful and actively losing money.

Hohenzollern Castle: not really a company but Joe and Cleo are cool so I wanted to include them and I had a tiny bit of blank space left on the page so here we are. I actually really love how the sign looks, the wood texture came out nice. They don’t have a logo as much as they do a sign outside their area, created by Joe, with the text written by Joe’s dyes. The “Hohenzollern” is kinda squished because he began to run out of room but was too stubborn to split the word in half. Cleo argues that it isn’t a logo and is just a sign with the castle’s name on it. Joe argues back with a deconstruction of “what is a logo, really?” and something about companies and capitalism and Cleo doesn’t care enough to respond.

Octagon: I am a fool who initially thought it was spelt “Octogon” and had to fix it well after I finished. Oh well. I wanted this to have a very evil look about it. You can instantly tell they’re the evil tech company running experiments on the quantum realm or whatever in a Hollywood movie. Between the unsafe work conditions and the tax fraud, it is a miracle they haven’t been shut down (reason: the government is scared of Doc)

The Evil Empire: the “the” wouldn’t fit so I had to make some sacrifices. Evil Xisuma is dramatic and edgy so he wanted the logo to be in fancy black calligraphic medieval looking text. It fits the evil castle aesthetic the whole area has pretty well too. The Evil Empire is kinda like a Hot Topic store and a Renaissance Fair combined, but it is also involved with Crypto. Despite being so weird it has a perfect niche of marketing to edgy teenagers so it is quite successful. The employees hate it there because their work mandated uniform is to “dress like an evil minion”. Jevin is a slime monster, Wels cosplays a knight and Beef turned into an alien so they thankfully didn’t have to change.

Boatem (BTM): heavily inspired by Grian’s simplified logo he made in Minecraft, where he shortened it to BTM. Despite already having a reference to work off, this was the hardest design. I knew I wanted it to be simple, all-white and leaning back dramatically but I spent ages fiddling with it. Boatem is the most successful company, being perfect for the general public and their shopping district a tourist destination in of itself. It nearly went into bankruptcy when Mumbo was CEO but has been very successful since his Robot took over.

Zedaph Laboratories: my favourite design. Hand writing the text was a nightmare but it came together nicely other than that. Sheep symbol because sheep are his brand. I used the same colour palette as his laboratory. “Laboratory” is misspelled for two reasons: 1) I realised my mistake too late to change it, 2) I think it is completely in character for Zedaph to not know how to spell laboratory and only realise after Tango points it out and be forever haunted by his mistake. Don’t let the sleek corporate design fool you, Zedaph is still wild and is the only person in the “Zedaph Labratories”.

He has to say, he’s so exhausted and terrified that he thinks he might just be mad? (OR: the one where, after most of humanity turns into a series of terrifying monsters, Mumbo decides he’s going to risk his life on an apocalypse road trip to try to find out if Grian is alive. Things, as you might imagine, devolve from there.)

Mumbo Jumbo & Evil Xisuma not-quite-enemies-to-allies apocalypse road trip. This story does a fantastic job conveying Mumbo's anxiety and terror - but he forges on anyway! - and also, well, the apocalypse. It's sad. The ending is perfect and almost made me cry. There's also great fanart, linked at the end.

twice is a thing we started at the start of winter 2021 and finished in january 2022. it's ~40,000 words long, features really neat things such as they/them pronouns for evil xisuma and also cool things like magic, and focuses on the relationship between one Xisuma B. Void, King of Hermit's Hollow, and one Xelqua Void, his younger... brother? who came into the world under less than the usual circumstances.

theres character foils! there's an omnipresent narrator who is heavily hinted to be the in-universe God of Fate! there's a scene where x gets turned into a turtle! there's also a direct link to the author's headspace, which the story is set in, but as long as you check out the post we linked at the end notes for the work you'll be fine

why would people perhaps be interested in this?

the EX in this story (known as Exy) actually does not start off evil at all and has a reason for [gestures vaguely] being an asshole i guess (their words)

according to at least several people, the prose is great and written really beautifully and also reads like a fairytale

the fic has the major character death + graphic depictions of violence warning on it which all kicks in in the later stages of the fic

theres a couple indirect/direct references to self harm and suicide but the suicide is not permanent and the person whom it happens to gets better eventually. the major character death is also not permanent but the fic ends directly after it happens, so

oh yeah theres also a description of a panic attack somewhere in there. theres a decent bit

Posting this first POV as a chapter all on its own because it got a little out of hand lmao!

I accidentally got sucked into RenDoc against my will and started combining a couple of story lines and things I wanted to see... the RenKing plots are always so much fun and leave themselves open to create such a wonderful story.

i love the idea of evil xisuma being the younger brother by a long shot because the idea of evil x wearing 2000s staples (graphic tees, stripped arm warmers, studded belts) because they're currently trendy and they look edgy would give xisuma a mental breakdown because 1) he thought he escaped the early 2000s scenecore aesthetic and then 2) have a existential after realizing how old he is after realzing ex doesnt know what myspace or mcr are
