What are your top ten Halloween movies?
I'm going to give you the answer to the question "what movies do you try to watch every Halloween" instead, since otherwise the answer to this question is identical to "what are your top ten horror movies," which is impossible for me to answer.
The Nightmare Before Christmas, which I always use to start the season.
Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein. I always try to watch a few of the Universal monster movies, and this one always caps it off as a sendoff to that era.
Brides of Dracula. I also always try to do at least a few of the Hammer horror movies, and since Brides of Dracula is my favorite of the lot it always ends up in rotation.
Dawn of the Dead (1977), one of my all-time favorite movies period.
Little Shop of Horrors (1987), another one of my all-time favorite movies period.
Extraordinary Tales (2013), an animated anthology of Edgar Allen Poe adaptations with narration by Christopher Lee, Guillermo del Toro, and a posthumous Bela Lugosi via an old radio recording he did
Beetlejuice, a movie that's a Cope family tradition at this point. It's also a Cope family tradition to have a Tim Burton night as part of the Halloweening, which always consists of this movie and the next entry on our list...
Sleepy Hollow, the other requisite Tim Burton choice, and my favorite adaptation of the Sleepy Hollow story. We also pick a third movie to go with it and BJ - either Corpse Bride, Mars Attacks, or Frankenweenie (Frankenweenie would be a regular if it weren't for the really racist Asian caricature in it).
The Abominable Dr. Phibes. I try to get in a few Vincent Price movies before the season is over, and since Dr. Phibes is my favorite, it's most often in rotation.
Cabin in the Woods, which feels perfect for the end of the season thanks to the finale where it lets dozens of archetypal monsters out to play.
Technically Not a Movie But Just as Necessary as the Above: Over the Garden Wall, which is always the VERY last Halloween thing we watch, as a bridge between Autumn and Winter.
I also try to work in some of my favorite trashy 80's living dead movies - Return of the Living Dead, Re-Animator, or an entry from the Evil Dead Series - as well as some 50's/60's era creature features. I used to work in a kaiju week as well, but in recent years I've done a larger kaiju marathon either in November (the 3rd being Godzilla's birthday) or March (my birthday month), and thus don't feel the need to try and work them into Halloweening.

I wish Shaggy and Scooby-Doo Get a Clue didn't have such a horrid rep because it doesn't follow the usual SD formula. It should've ran for a lot longer because then, we could actually learn more about Phibes. How did he get that way? Was it a rough childhood [aside from the details we do know from the rodeo ep]? Was his father an evil genius? [Phibes's mother was a bank robber.] Did he get inspired by comics or something? Or, was he simply born like that?

The Price May Be Right - Number 13
Welcome to “The Price May Be Right!” I’m counting down My Top 31 Favorite Vincent Price Performances & Appearances! The countdown will cover movies, TV productions, and many more forms of media. Today we focus on Number 13: Dr. Phibes.
So, here’s a random fun fact for you Batman fans out there: apparently, this character was the inspiration for the version of Mr. Freeze that appeared in the seminal animated story, “Heart of Ice.” And, of course, that version of Mr. Freeze would become the inspiration for the character in nearly every other interpretation – both in and out of comics – to date. So, yeah, if you’re a Mr. Freeze fan, you can thank Egghead for it. :P ANYWAY…while Vincent did many, MANY horror movies – both serious and comedic alike – the one thing he never got was the chance to play a horror icon, so to speak. Which is to say, when you look at other great classic horror actors over the years, whatever else they do there’s always one specific character for whom they’ll always be remembered. For Christopher Lee and Bela Lugosi, it was Count Dracula; for Boris Karloff, it was Frankenstein’s Monster; even with more modern actors, like Roger L. Jackson and Robert Englund, they have specific horror roles (The Voice of Ghostface and Freddy Krueger, respectively) for which they will always be most chiefly recognized. Vincent never had that; he never got that recognition of having a specific, classic monster he could be identified with. The closest we ever got was that he was so well-known for his work with the stories of Edgar Allan Poe, but that’s a bit of a different issue. However, in the 1970s, Price DID get a chance to ATTEMPT such a feat, in two films that were part gruesome, gory nightmare fuel and part witty, satirical humor-fests: these were the Dr. Phibes films. The titular character was a deranged musical genius, who wore a mask to hide his hideous skull-like deformities – all elements taken from the timeless tale of “The Phantom of the Opera.” However, the story of the good doctor is rather different: Phibes’ descent into evil began when his beloved wife, Victoria, was stricken with some unholy medical condition. In order to save her life, a risky surgical operation was needed, which was so tricky it required the aid of no less than nine people to even hope for a success. Unfortunately, something went wrong with the operation; as soon as he got the news, Phibes hurried in the direction of the hospital…but was ironically caught in a terrible car crash, and apparently burned to death in the wreck. Husband and wife were then interred together. The rumors of Dr. Phibes’ death, however, were greatly exaggerated. Phibes miraculously survived the crash, and later rose from the grave hideously disfigured by the accident. He brought his wife with him, and kept her body imprisoned in a sarcophagus filled with honey and special fluids, so that her beauty would forever remain intact. In the first film, “The Abominable Dr. Phibes,” the mad maestro goes on a killing spree, attempting to get revenge on the nine people he blames for the death of his wife and the ruination of his existence. In the second film, “Dr. Phibes Rises Again,” the musical maniac returns, now seeking to resurrect his beloved bride. The Phibes films were a bizarre sort of pair. In a way, I sort of see these as the precursor to both the Scream films and the SAW movies. Like the former films, the movies combine elements of parodical dark comedy with real chills and gory, brutal death scenes. Phibes, himself, is treated as a serious and tragic character, and the fear factor is upped by his appearance. The mask he wears to hide his deformities is basically just Vincent’s face with some uncanny valley makeup added to enhance the effect, giving Price a particularly ghoulish appearance. This combined with the special voice box Phibes uses to speak after his accident – which causes Price to speak in a robotic, mechanical, droning sort of way that is both odd and genuinely unsettling – makes the character truly chilling. At the same time, however, he’s a sympathetic villain, as everything he does is in the name of his precious Victoria, and while one recognizes he is the bad guy of the story, it’s hard not to feel sorry for him and understand his motivations. The methods through which he offs his victims are pretty messed up even by today’s standards, too. In all, I would say most of the scares from the film come from Phibes himself. The humor generally is the result of the other characters around him, as well as some the intentionally contrived elements of the plot that are meant to satirize various horror movie tropes. I’m a little surprised there weren’t more films in the Phibes franchise; if there had been, maybe Vincent could have had that one iconic horror character to be recognized by…but, on the other hand, one of the things that made Vincent so fascinating was that he wasn’t someone who could fit into a singular mold, so to speak, and instead had MANY roles for which any given person could recognize him for most keenly. Dr. Phibes was ultimately just one of those parts, but it’s a part well worth remembering. Tomorrow, the countdown continues with Number 12!

Shaggy And Scooby Doo Get A Clue: New Adventures.
Just a little idea I had in mind, for Shaggy And Scooby Doo Get A Clue.
Also, I drew Dr Phibes with a new metal hand and it looks good on him in my opinion!
Both female OCs are Shannon Jones (In the black top) and her clone which was created by Dr Phineas Phibes is also named Shannon Jones.
The original Shannon Jones hates the fact that she was cloned by her enemy, and to add salt to the wounds the clone was named after her as Dr Phibes seen Shannon as a very intelligent woman and believed that she could've been a perfect partner for his evil schemes, etc but she refused. So he found a way to harvest her DNA after confronting her and then later on cloned her.
Dr Phibes and her clone are their worst enemies which Shannon, Shaggy, and Scooby Doo will do anything to stop them.

Welp, never thought I would give this a chance…
Since the release of Velma, everybody has been giving past Scooby Doo shows a new look and appreciating what they are. I am glad for people to really start to enjoy Be Cool Scooby Doo. It is my third favorite incarnation behind Pupped and Mystery incorporated. But like others with Be Cool, I too was put off from the drastic changes of the Scooby Doo Formula. And for me, that’s Shaggy and Scooby Doo Get a Clue.
So the episode begins establishing that Shaggy and Scooby, even if Shaggy got a new voice actor, are the same people you know and love. Just currently living alone, in an unkempt house with no food. That’s when Shaggy got a call that he and Scoob are now billionaires. His uncle went missing and left everything behind for them, including the mansion with his laboratory and more importantly: food.
So after telling the others, finding his laboratory and playing around with a Shrink Machine, they find out that he created a formula that can turn whoever eats it into basically anything. It currently only works on animals but an evil scientist is looking for it. And if he gets it, he can use it to take over the world. So it’s up to Shaggy and Scooby to find the recipe, find Shaggy’s uncle and prevent it from falling into the wrong hands.
Speaking of wrong hands, we get introduced to our evil scientist. Phineus Phibes. He seems like a fun villain. And two of his henchmen, 1 and 2, remind me of the henchmen from Venture Brothers. So seeing them interact with the actual Scooby duo feels just right. Even the Shrink Ray comes back into play. But sadly Scooby and Shaggy get captured and are about to meet a watery end.
But basically all the clues add up to them and embracing his inner Velma, Shaggy realizes the new Scooby Snack Formula is the Nanomachine Formula. Luckily they made some ahead of time because of course new Scooby Snacks were going to be eaten by them. Thanks to Scooby’s temporary invisibility, the two manage to escape and establish that while they’ll be doing this mostly on their own, it’s the same Shaggy and Scooby we know and love.
And that shows just how well this setup its series compared to Velma. It established the characters as likable before introducing the overarching story. Has an overarching story and a believable reason behind a person’s absence. And gradually introduced us to the things that are different. We establish the Scooby Gang is the same. Then we established he got rich. Then the story of the series. Followed by the villain. And finally the new gimmick with the Super Scooby Snacks.
I wish I did give it a chance when it was airing. It has two seasons and I was laughing a lot more here than with Velma. And before I forget, while I am not a fan of the intro, it does remind me of Offspring’s Walla Walla song.
