Confessions: An Outlaw Queen AU
Regina is an event planner and single mom by choice, raising her two children. Robin is a widower that owns a bar with two of his own. On paper, they should have nothing to do with one another. That is until a deathbed confession changes everything they thought they knew.

NAME: emma swan
AGE: 36
PROFESSION: actor
KNOWN FOR: first broke onto the scene in her 20’s starring along side Regina and Henry in a remake of the film Stepmother, currently starring on the popular Netflix series THE SAVIOR.
RELATIONSHIP STATUS: married to killian jones
IMPORTANT CONNECTIONS: regina mills ( best friend ), evie jones ( sister in law ), mary margaret wells ( close friend ), david nolan ( close friend/surrogate big brother ), henry daniels ( surrogate son ), robin locksley ( friennd/annoyance )
from february 20th - february 27th tagged #& AU CELEBRITY 2 .
SHORT BIOGRAPHY FOR PERSONALITY: so basically emma lost her parents when she was pretty young in a car accident. as a result, emma was raised by her paternal grandmother. they didn’t have a lot of money, but ruth made a point to make sure emma had everything she needed, even if it meant she had to go without what an angel, honestly.
in school, emma had a hard time making friends. she never really felt like she fit in. until she found theatre, and her whole world shifted. suddenly she had a safe place to put all of that sadness and anger she’d felt for years and she was praised for it. it didn’t take her long to get bitten by the acting bug, and once she had been she couldn’t get enough. she auditioned for every high school and community theatre production. and between rehearsals and working after schools jobs, that loneliness emma felt as a child started to dissipate.
emma moved to LA right out of highschool, her grandmother sending her off with enough money to afford a room in a small apartment in koreatown. life in LA was hard, but emma was harder – she worked nights as a bartender, took acting classes, and after strong arming her way into meeting with an agent, finally started auditioning. things started slowly for emma, hollywood was teeming with young blonde actresses, but emma was determined to make her mark. it was years of commercials and bit parts on long running procedurals and sitcoms, but in her 20′s emma finally got her big break when she booked a leading role in a film. and the best part? it was guaranteed to be a hit because regina mills was attached to it.
of course, as with all things in emma’s life every win was met with a loss. ruth was sick, and emma had to choose – do the movie, or be with her grandmother. and of course, ruth insisted emma needed to work and even though everything in her screamed go home, she listened. ruth passed within the year, and when emma’s name started buzzing around awards season she credited all of it to her grandmother.
emma later formed a charitable organization in her grandmother’s name.

wait I’m confused, how many siblings does riley have?
Random Questions??? || ALWAYS ALLOWED!
oooh boy nonnie, okay, so!
in her main verse she just has two younger brothers, henry mills and roland locksley.
in her ouat verse it’s just henry. but in threads with @denombreuxcontes it’s henry and alexandra mills (older sister).
in the riley & carly twins au with @bcckmarked there’s carly sun, her twin sister. then the rest of the sun family, lexxy, selma, sen and kevin (all older siblings).
in her descendants verse there’s evie (older sister). and kinda elizabeth grimhilde with @starstaiined.
then there’s allyson deville ( @starstaiined), her eventual sister-in-law, and whom she greatly considers her sister.
and yeah, i think that’s it. sorry for the confusion! i know it can be hard trying to keep up with all the different verses and such, so i hope this helps!
#❝ i’m laughing and crying and it feels like i’m dying ❞ || MUN ANSWERS#anonymous#(why does she have so many siblings? bc i favor riley over everyone else & she has so much love to give)#(whether it's platonic or otherwise)#(and everyone should have a sister like riley)

In love with science she enjoys chemistry and often hangs around wale even though her got his degree by a curse to learn about compounds and how to make the right solutions to get an expected reaction.
she's got nimble fingers from sewing and an extremely steady hand, when going somewhere dangerous Evie takes her fathers bow with her as a way to honor him and his heroics and to beat up what ever baddie of the week came to town.
she's not as big of a flirt as people say she is, and genuinely wants to know about people however her interest can actually be her trying to figure out how to blackmail you into helping her sew one hundred dresses in two days.
Magic gifted her magic is not light or dark but a strange mix of the in-between variety that the blue haired princess is still trying to understand.

Robin’s Revenge: Part 8
Based on a plot twist that I was sent by @queen-of-the-merry-men, but with a bit of a happier ending (if you could call it that?). For OQ AngstFest...Prompts: 20, 28, 35, 38, 42
Also on AO3
Regina had been nervous when Evie said she wanted to move out to California for college. It was all the way across the country and it wasn’t like she could drive there quickly if anything went wrong. Evie also had a huge heart. A good kid, she cared about others, but she went out of her way to help people and that sometimes could land her in a boatload of trouble.
Robin had talked her into it. He reminded her that because of her big heart, it meant she was a smart kid, a good kid. She could take care of herself, he trusted her. He trusted that she could handle all of what life threw at her.
“It’s time we let her spread her wings,” he had told Regina after they had visited San Diego State University.
So, Regina had relented. On the condition that Evie called at least once a week and e-mailed frequently so they knew she was alive, she could go out west.
The day they dropped her off at her dorm and headed back to the airport was the hardest of Regina’s life. This was the fourth child she was putting through college (they had already dropped Bryony off in Boston) and this was the furthest any of them had gone. She had been worried when Henry chose New York, but that was nothing compared to what was going on now.
Overtime, Evie seemed to prove that she was doing just fine. Her first semester she made the Dean’s list and showed off lots of friends on Facebook. She even worked a part time job during all of it. She seemed like superwoman in Regina’s eyes and Robin just reminded her that she took after her mom, so hardworking and sociable.
Little did they know, despite how great she was doing…Evie was holding back a huge secret.
Regina would never forget the day she got the call. She had just gotten through putting together a seating chart for a wedding she was planning when an unfamiliar number came through her personal phone. She almost pressed ignore, thinking it might be a sales call, but then she noticed it was a California number. Sliding the green bar over, she held the phone to her ear.
“Hello?”
“Is this Regina Locksley Mills?”
“Yes, this is she.”
“My name is Detective Weaver, I’m calling you from San Diego.”
Regina’s heart shot to the bottom of her stomach. “Is my daughter okay?”
“I’m sorry to report that she’s just been rushed to the hospital. She suffered a gunshot wound.”
“A gunshot wound?!?” Regina jumped out of her seat. “Wait, wait, I’m confused. Was she mugged?” She began pacing the area around her desk. This was what she was afraid of. San Diego wasn’t like Storybrooke, there was far more crime. “Who did this to her?” The tears burned in her eyes and it was taking all she had not to cry.
“Mrs. Locksley Mills, your daughter wasn’t mugged. She was at a known drug dealer’s house when a rival cased the place?”
“Is she…is she okay?”
“She’s in critical condition. The hospital will have more information for you.”
Weaver gave her the name and Regina quickly scrawled it down, throwing open her laptop to look up the first flight to California. Henry could look after his younger sibling, she’d go get Robin at work. As she was typing in the travel website, she swallowed a bit.
“Detective…what was the drug dealer’s name?”
“Zelena Greene.”
Robin had once thought the longest ride of his life was when he got the call that there was a baby for him at the hospital. He hadn’t even known that Zelena was pregnant and suddenly, there was her baby waiting on him. A little girl that was his, that would be his daughter.
Little did he know at the time that someone had interfered and he wouldn’t end up with the baby Zelena had delivered, but he had still be afraid.
That was nothing compared to the ride to the airport, followed by the nearly 6 hour flight to California. It was about as silent as the first ride, Regina hadn’t said anything since breaking into Aesop’s, tears streaming down her face. He had shouted some orders at Will, confirmed that their youngest child was being taken care of and off they went.
He thought of Zelena, the biological mother of his second daughter. He hadn’t heard a word from her since she signed away her rights, as far as he knew she had denied any contact with Evie. How had the two of them been in touch? Since when was Zelena a drug dealer? The last time he had known her, she had been a dancer, she was just trying to find her way in life.
How had he allowed any of this to happen? Regina had been convinced that California would be a bad idea, but he insisted. Evie was a good kid, she had her head screwed on straight. If it had been Bryony or Roland, he would’ve been worried. They were also good kids, but not the most responsible. Though, he wouldn’t have even expected them to get caught up with a drug dealer of all people.
He knew he couldn’t have predicted it, but guilt burned his gut. He was supposed to look out for his kids, he was supposed to tell when something bad was about to happen. Robin had known that Bryony wasn’t really meeting up with friends the night she snuck out to a wild party. He had known that Henry was dating someone in secret long before he introduced Jacinda to their family. The kids liked to joke that he not only had eyes in the back of his head, they followed them everywhere.
How could he have not seen this coming? How could he not have been able to protect his little girl?
What if he lost her?
Oh God, he could lose her.
Because of Cora, he had missed 3 years of her life and he had never been able to shake that. Over the years he had found ways to make up for it. They spent as much time together as they could, they bonded over soccer and cooking. He was the one she went to when her first boyfriend broke up with her. He knew how to make her smile, how to get her to open up. They had come a long way from the little girl that sobbed and claimed she didn’t want a father. They had 16 amazing years as father and daughter.
And Robin could lose it all due to some drug dealers with guns.
As soon as they landed, they got in a cab and headed to the hospital. They didn’t have a hotel room, their duffel bags were packed with things that Regina thought they’d need but they still weren’t sure of her condition. They got the run around at first, but when it became clear that they were the parents of the 19 year old that had been gunned down, they were directed to a doctor’s office where he explained it the best he could.
Evie had been found in Zelena’s apartment, she had been shot twice in the stomach and once in the shoulder. They had done surgery as soon as she arrived, but things were still pretty touch and go. Evie had lost a lot of blood and they had done a transfusion, yet the next few hours were going to be pretty crucial. Already, the bullet was going to hinder the use of her shoulder for the next year.
Zelena had gotten out of all of it unscathed, which angered both of them. They didn’t want her dead-or maybe Robin did, he wasn’t sure what was the anger in him and what was the rational-but the fact that she hadn’t been hurt and their little girl had was too much. She was arrested given the amount of drugs around, which meant less answers than anything. They were lead to Evie’s room and prepared that she’d be hooked up to some machines but they were all for her own good.
Seeing her laying there in that hospital bed, she seemed so tiny, so much younger than 19. True to the doctor’s word, she was hooked up and her left arm was in a sling. Regina inched her way forward, pushing a strand of the young girl’s blonde hair out of her face. She kissed the center of her forehead and let out a deep breath.
“Oh Evie, what the hell happened?”
Robin walked to the other side of his daughter, taking his hand into hers. He noticed her self-made manicure, remembering back to the days when she’d paint his own nails. Shutting his eyes, he tried to picture her happy, healthy…only to have his heart break when they opened again.
“Are we good parents?” He whispered.
Regina looked up at him, surprised to hear his first words in over 6 hours. “Robin…”
“I mean, you’re a good mom,” Robin rambled on. “The best mom in the world. This is my fault, though. I told you we should let her go, I promised you she’d be fine and…”
“Hey.” Regina met his gaze and shook her head. “This isn’t your fault.”
“But…”
“This is the fault of the bastard that shot at her and we will make sure he pays for what he’s done. We didn’t do anything, you didn’t do anything.”
“We could lose her.”
“We’re not going to.”
He could see the doubt in her eyes, though and it scared him. Reaching over, he grabbed her free hand and they squeezed each other tightly.
“Just don’t blame yourself,” Regina continued, her voice in a whisper. “You’re going to make yourself sick.”
Evie didn’t wake up that night, but her vitals were good and according to the doctor, that was all they could ask for. While Regina called to Storybrooke to check on their children there, Robin put in a call to Boston. Henry had promised to let his siblings know and Bryony had been blowing up his phone, clearly worried about her sister.
“Daddy,” Bryony whispered as soon as he answered the phone.
“Hey Peanut,” he said, softly. “How are you holding up?”
“I’m scared. How is she?”
“Her vitals are good, that’s what matters.”
“Did they catch the guy who did it?”
“Yes. He and Zelena are both locked up right now.”
He could hear her swallow on the other end of the line. “Daddy, this is all my fault.”
Robin sighed. “Oh Bry…” Sometimes they were too much alike.
“No, just hear me out. I…I knew about Zelena.”
He paused. “What?”
“Evie told me. Zelena came into the café she worked for and she recognized her. She was a regular and they got to talking…soon Evie was hanging out at her place a lot, though she didn’t tell Zelena who she really was.”
Robin shut his eyes. “Did she know about the drugs?”
“…Yes.”
“And you did, too?”
“Yes.”
“Why didn’t you tell your mother and I? Why did you lie to me?”
“Evie made me swear not to. She was afraid you’d make her come home.”
Well, she wasn’t wrong.
This wasn’t the first time that Bryony and Evie had teamed up to hide things from their parents. This was just the first time that they had gotten away with it. Though, Robin was starting to wonder if that was true.
“I am so sorry, Dad,” Bryony continued. “I didn’t think this would happen.”
Robin sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. “This isn’t your fault, Peanut. It’s not Evie’s either. You two should’ve told us…but this was bigger than both of you. You couldn’t have stopped it from happening.”
“I’m sorry,” she repeated.
“I know you are. We’re going to talk more about it later, but I just need you to promise me that you’re going to take care of yourself.”
“I will.” A pause. “Dad?”
“Yeah?”
“Please don’t be too hard on Evie when she wakes up. She…she just never wanted to hurt Mom.”
“Well, this isn’t exactly helping your mother either.”
Evie didn’t wake up for two more days. They had gone 36 hours without seeing those beautiful blue eyes and they had feared that they never would again, but she persevered. They didn’t talk about the situation much at first, they let the doctors run their tests and explain the injuries to her. She wouldn’t be able to return to school for a few weeks at least and her best bet would be to withdraw from the semester, retaking it at another point.
It wasn’t until hours later that they had the chance to sit down and talk about it. Evie looked between her parents and knew what was going to happen.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered. “I never thought this would happen.”
“You knew Zelena was on drugs,” Regina said, not judgmental, just matter of fact. “Why would you go to her apartment?”
“I just…I wanted to know her. Maybe if she saw who I was…”
“Then she’d want you?”
Evie ducked her head. “It was stupid, I know that now.”
“You could’ve died, Evangeline,” Robin bit his lip, shaking his head. “We could’ve lost you.”
“I didn’t think this was going to happen. I…I never thought…”
Tears built up in her eyes. All she had wanted was to get to know her birth mom and it had gotten her shot. The memories of the men with the guns…
Robin and Regina saw the look in their daughters’ eyes and they each moved a hand to her arm. The lectures could wait. Their daughter needed time to heal, both emotionally and physically. They weren’t going anywhere, they were going to help her through this.

PlotTwist Confessions: one of the girls dies *covers eyes in fear*
WHAT????
Okay…okay…I don’t normally kill children. (That’s a lie…I’ve done it a few times…but normally miscarriages and in one terrible instance Regina had a son before Henry who died with Daniel in a car wreck, but never a character that I’ve written about and fallen in love with.) But…you’ve answered some of my crazier ones…so… Trigger warning: drug use, gun violence, depression and alcoholism below….
This would probably tie into Zelena’s past, which I’ve talked about in a few of these. She’s a failed dancer that turned to a life of drugs and partying. When Evie is 18, she decides to go to L.A for school and also partially because she wants to try to give Zelena one last chance to be in her life. (Canonically, this is how I see the story going.) Though, she doesn’t tell Robin or Regina the real reason.
Evie realizes that Zelena is now a stripper in a bad area of town and wants to help save her. Maybe if she’s on a better path, then they can have a better relationship. Maybe it was the drugs that made her give her up. (Even though Zelena was sober when she was born) Zelena doesn’t recognize her at first and recruits her to join the club. (Though, Evie is smart enough to just become a bartender and not a “dancer”.) The closer they get, the more Evie feels like she can really save her. Unfortunately, Zelena owes too many debts and Evie is at her apartment when it’s raided by drug lords. Zelena lives, Evie dies.
Robin and Regina are in shock. They had no clue what their daughter is up to. Robin blames himself because he convinced Regina that Evie going to L.A would be good for her, to help her cope with realizing about Cora and Zelena. Regina doesn’t blame him, but just spirals. She doesn’t want to talk to him, or anyone really. She becomes protective of the child they had together and doesn’t want them leaving the house.
Bryony knew what Evie was doing and didn’t say anything, which makes her feel terrible. She falls into a deep depression and starts drinking to cope. Roland doesn’t know how to feel or what to do, so he distances himself from the family, which doesn’t help matters.
Henry is the only on to keep his head about the whole thing. He moves back in with his parents (along with Jacinda and Lucy). He makes sure his younger sibling goes to school, he helps with the bar. He tries to convince everyone to go to therapy, but no one listens. He can tell that Robin and Regina’s marriage is falling apart.
Things only get worse when Zelena comes to town, to share her guilt over the situation. It doesn’t end well and Regina smacks her. She blames her for everything. For abandoning Evie and Bryony in the first place. For denying Evie when she reached out to begin with. For just being an overall terrible person. She finds it unfair that in her daughter’s last moments, her abandoner was with her. She flips out on Robin who tries to calm her down, which only makes Robin flip out and say some things he’ll later regret about it being her family’s fault that he missed out so much of Evie’s life.
Regina moves out of the house, taking her and Robin’s child with her. Bryony and Roland are getting worse. Henry knows that this is the last thing Evie wants and doesn’t know how to get them all talking again.
It takes Bryony nearly drinking herself to death to get everyone back together. Regina and Robin will not lose another daughter, period. So, they put her in rehab and one of the first things Bryony’s therapist wants is a group session. He finds that this is often a family issue. It’s there that they’re all forced to faced their demons: Robin’s guilt over allowing Evie to go and missing so much of her life, Regina never really learned to cope after all the loss she faced before (her parents, Daniel, etc.) and Bryony finally admits what she knew, thinking her parents will hate her but they surround her with love.
It takes time and therapy, but they slowly start working to get back to how they were. Bryony drops out of college once she’s done with therapy and Regina moves back in with Robin and her. Henry and his family stay with them to help out. Things aren’t exactly the same, but they do their best to move on because they know it’s what Evie would want.
The one person who takes the longest to come back into the fold is Roland. He resists therapy longer than the rest of them. None of them are the same after this, but he is the one that is really forever changed. He and Evie never really formed a close bond. They loved each other, they were siblings, but unlike Henry and Bryony, they just never could grow that. And he’ll always live with that and blame himself for not being closer to his sister.
Eventually the pain becomes a dull ache, but they return to how things were before. Regina and Robin renew their vows and continue therapy. Henry and his family are eventually able to move out. Bryony never returns to school but eventually gets an apartment, with her younger sibling. Roland slowly returns to his family. Regina becomes a huge advocate for gun control and speaks at schools, conferences, etc. so no parent has to go through what she did.

“I want to find my birth parents.” Any verse
Also on AO3
Robin knew when something was wrong with his daughter. It had taken time since he didn’t raise her from the day he was born, but hefigured it out in time. While Bryony got quiet when she was upset, Evie gotloud. She had more of an attitude, she was disrespectful and overall just wasn’thelping around the house. Regina was at her wits end with the girl and while Robinwas trying to put his foot down so she didn’t always have to be the bad guy, butthings had been busier at Aesop’s. Regina understood, it wasn’t her first teenageangst period, but not only did they have 2 other kids at home at the time, shewas busy with her own job. They were both in over their heads, as much as they didn’twant to admit it.
He always respected his kids’ privacy. He said that ifhe had to be looking through their phones or their laptops, then they obviouslycouldn’t be trusted with them. They were good kids, outside their few periodsof outbursts. Him running across Evie’s texts had been a true mistake. They hadthe same case (a custom one that Henry had made with Aesop’s label) and model, both didn’t put passcodes on them. So, when he opened it up and saw a textalert from Matilda- Evie’s best friend-he went to put it back down…until he sawwhat it said.
Matilda:Do your parents have any idea yet?
That made Robin pause. He knew he should just put itdown and let Evie come to him in time, but what if something bad was going on?What if she was in trouble? So, he set aside his guilt and scrolled up untilsomething else caught his eyes, another text from Matilda.
Matilda:I think I want to find my biological parents.
Matilda had been adopted at a young age and was beingraised by a single mother. It was how Regina and Honey had met, actually, at aplay group for single parents when the girls were babies. Evie’s response was abit harsher than Robin would expect from her.
Evie:Don’t do it. You’ll regret it.
Matilda:How do you know?
Evie:Let’s just say I reached out to my biological mother recently.
Matilda:How bad?
Evie:She made it clear she wants nothing to do with me.
Robin let the phone drop onto the plush carpeting and sunkdown on the couch. Evie had first asked about Zelena when she was 8 years old.Bryony knew that her biological father was a sperm donor and that Regina hadgotten pregnant with her on her own. Explaining Zelena to Evie had been a bittougher. She didn’t understand why she didn’t want anything to do with her, asif she had done something wrong. Regina and Robin had worked hard to make sure sheknew it wasn’t, telling her that she could come to them if she had anyquestions.
8 years later and clearly she wanted to get her answersfrom the source.
He could’ve predicted Zelena’s answers from a mileaway. She had signed off on the adoption so fast, she was out before the inkeven dried. Suddenly, everything made sense.
Regina wasn’t home yet and he wasn’t sure if he couldwait for her to talk with Evie about it, not without going crazy.
He headed up to the attic bedroom that she and Bryony shared,it had changed so much over the years and reflected both of theirpersonalities. Mixes of light pastels and bright stripes, two beds on eitherside with bedspreads that matched their respective walls. Bryony was out atbasketball practice, so Evie was alone on her bed, sketching in a book. Hewalked over to her, dropping down on the bed.
“You left this downstairs,” he said when she lookedup, handing it over. She just took it and was about to return to her book, buthe kept his gaze on hers.
“Did you want something else?”
“We should probably get different cases for our phones.”
She stiffened and lowered her pencils, pushing the padto the side. “What did you see?”
“That you contacted Zelena.” An uncomfortable silencefilled the room. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I knew you’d be upset.”
“I’m not upset. I’m just…confused. You didn’t seeminterested.”
Evie shrugged, gnawing on her bottom lip. “We had todo a family tree project for school and of course I had you and Mom’s sides…Iguess it just got me thinking about her. Why she gave me up…maybe enough time hadpassed…so I found her Facebook information and…” She shook her head. “Look, it doesn’tmatter. She doesn’t want anything to do with me. I’m sorry about my attitudelately, I’ll be better. Can we just not talk about this anymore?”
Robin studied her face, seeing the heartbreak behindher eyes. It was the same he saw all those years ago when she found out aboutZelena in the first place. It was enough to make him want to track her down andscream at her for all the pain she had caused the family.
“What did she say to you, Evie?”
“Dad…”
“What did she say?”
Evie sighed and picked her phone back up, scrollingthrough her photos until she came across the screen shot. She had been readingit and re-reading it for day. It wasn’t very long, just basically saying thatshe had no interest in contact and that she was going to be blocking Evie so itdidn’t happen again, that she never wanted to be a mom. Robin read it allbefore looking back up at her, his heart low in his chest. It was selfishly ananswer he was okay with, he didn’t want her back in their lives. Zelena wasn’t fitto be a mother, she never was. Yet, how could be so glad when his little girl’sheart was clearly broken?
“She didn’t want me, I thought maybe…maybe she gave meup because we didn’t have a connection…”
“She never held Bryony, sweetheart,” he whispered.
“I know that now. And that makes it worse, I wastrying to put blame on my own sister of all people.”
“Hey, you didn’t mean anything malicious by it.”
“It’s just…” She let out a deep breath. “I’ve listenedto Bryony for years, how she felt rejected by Cora, how she was swapped out likea toy a kid didn’t want on Christmas. And I never got how that felt, notreally. Until I got this message and now it hurts and I don’t know how to shutthat off.”
Tears were pouring down her face and Robin couldn’t holdit back anymore. He wrapped his daughter in his arms, rubbing her back. Oneother thing he had to learn was how to comfort her and he thought he had thatdown pretty good too.
“Neither of you are rejects.”
“Why doesn’t she want me, Daddy?”
That sentence alone broke his heart. “I don’t know, Princess,I really don’t. Some people just aren’t cut out to be mothers.”
“Yet, I have a mom, who loves me and I did this.”
“That doesn’t make it hurt any less.” He carded his fingersthrough her hair. “And it doesn’t mean that you deserve this.”
Fumbling for the phone as she sobbed into his sweatshirt,he dialed for the pizza place, ordering her favorite. Regina and his other kidswouldn’t be back from the away game until late, so it was just him and Evie. He’ddo his best to fix this broken heart.

Confessions: Chapt. 9 [Date Night]
Summary: Despite being married for 7 months, Regina and Robin are going on their first date.
Also on AO3
Regina had adjusted to her new life, that sleeping beside Robin was no longer awkward. It was just a part of life. There was the attraction she felt for him, but somehow that didn’t make things any worse between the two of them. She knew that it was purely physical, he was a good looking man. They could lay side by side, him snoring most nights, and it wasn’t an issue.
One night in April ended up changing all of that for them.
It started out innocent enough. They woke up and went through their routine, same as normal. While he showered, she brushed her teeth and made sure the kids were getting up and getting themselves ready. Then they’d switch and he’d help the girls as needed, reminding the boys about backpacks and homework. The end of the process landed the six of them around the kitchen table, enjoying breakfast together while they made plans for the day.
Once the kids had left in their various carpools, the two of them were left alone. Robin pulled on his jacket while Regina slid her feet into black heels. They were almost perfectly in synch after all that time.
“So,” he said. “You don’t have any functions tomorrow do you?”
“Nope. The wedding I’m planning isn’t until next week.”
“Great, and the kids are spending the night at Mal’s.”
Regina tilted her head. “Yeah, they are.”
“Well, Will and Anastasia are engaged. I’ve decided that I want to throw them an engagement party at the bar. Maybe you could come, as my plus one.”
Regina wiggled her eyebrows. “Robin, are you asking me on a date?”
Robin laughed, shaking his head. “A bit awkward considering we’re married, but yes. It doesn’t have to mean anything, I just figured this is something that husbands and wives do, right? They attend their friends’ parties together.”
“I wouldn’t know. I’ve never been married.”
“Right, well, it’s what they do.”
She laughed. “Of course. Do you need any help with the party?”
“Nah, I’m pretty sure that Mary Margaret and David have it all under control. I would’ve asked you, since you’re an event planner and all, but I figured you were busy.”
“It’s fine. It might be nice to actually attend a party where I didn’t have to worry about catering menus or paying the band.”
That handsome smile went across Robin’s face once more, causing butterflies to fill Regina’s stomach. “It’s a date then.”
Robin slowly began to regret the choice to have the party at the bar. It made the most sense, saved money on a venue and no one’s house was big enough to fit everyone. Their friends would still buy drinks and such, but Robin still worried about this kind of stuff. Bars and restaurants easily went out of business in Storybrooke. Probably the longest running eatery in town was Granny’s Diner, and that was only because Eugena Lucas was probably the only person the town’s landlord feared. Even so, David promised him that they would be fine. It was one Saturday of the entire month, and besides, most of the town would be coming anyways.
Most of the day was so busy, he almost forgot that he had asked Regina to be his date. He spent the early afternoon at the bar with the usual lunch crowd and then ushered the kids around town before dropping them off at Mal’s. She loved having them for sleepovers. Lily was getting too old and surly for her to have any fun with, so the Locksley-Mills children were a fun change of pace for her.
He headed back to the house and quickly showered, changing his clothes before heading downstairs and making a few calls to make sure the party went off without a hitch. Regina hadn’t entered his mind at all, until he heard her voice.
“We can’t be late, it’s a surprise isn’t it? We want to beat Will and Ana there.”
He looked up, watching as she walked into the kitchen. The sight of her nearly took his breath away. He had seen her dressed up before, but this was a little different. She wore a red dress, which proved to be backless when she turned to check her makeup in the mirror. As usual she was wearing heels to boost up her normally short stature, but tonight they seemed to accent her legs. How had he not noticed just how sexy they were before then?
Robin wasn’t blind, he was well aware of just how attractive Regina was. He’d be lying if he said that he hadn’t at all felt anything for her since their marriage of convenience seven months prior, but he shrugged it off to the fact that she really was just a great person. She was smart, witty, always had a comeback ready and above all, was an amazing mother. He had watched her stress over planning a huge wedding and coming home exhausted with clear intentions of soaking in the tub, but when Evie and Bryony had asked if she could have a tea party with them, she agreed almost instantly.
He was falling for her, right in that very moment, there was no denying it
Regina turned around to face him and obviously caught the look in his eye. “What is it? Is it too much?”
“It’s…it’s…” For the first time in a while, Robin found himself at a loss for words. He took a few steps forward. “It’s unfair, is what it is.”
Regina looked puzzled at that. “Unfair?”
“You look really sexy right now and I can’t do anything about it, because we have to leave for the party.”
As soon as the words escaped his mouth, he worried he had crossed the invisible line that they had set out. Sure, they were married, but it was clearly for convenience purposes only. They needed to be able to adopt the girls and it was the only way that they could get to know the biological daughter they had been separated from.
Yet, in that moment, he just wanted to be a normal husband and wife. The thought scared him to death. He had been on dates since Marian died, heck, he had even slept with someone else. This was different. This had the potential to be serious. If he and Regina ever did anything, it would change the course of their relationship forever. They wouldn’t just be co-parents anymore, husband and wife of convenience.
Before he could even try to take it back, Regina took hold of his hand, a smile on her own face. “Well,” she said. “There’s always after the party.”
Regina had come to really like Robin’s friends. Will could be a bit crude at times and he often spoke without thinking, but he was really funny. Anastasia was harder to read, but at the end of the day, no one could doubt that they were made for one another. The rest of the bar staff always treated her kindly and unsurprisingly due to their small town, most of the people Robin knew, she did as well.
Even so, she found herself so impatient that night. She wanted to take her husband home and fuck him so had.
Regina couldn’t believe that she was even thinking about him in that way. After he called her sexy, though, it was as if her eyes had opened. Of course she had feelings for Robin. He was sexy, intelligent and a tremendous father to boot. She realized she had fallen for him months earlier, around Valentine’s Day. Henry had been so nervous to talk to his crush and Robin walked him through it like a pro. Seeing how good he was, with a kid that he had only known for a short while, made her so happy. The sight of his smile brought butterflies to her stomach, as clichéd as it sounded.
Even that night at the party, she watched him make the rounds and she felt slightly jealous that she had to share him. It was the first time since they said “I do”, that she actually felt like a wife.
Was this what marriage was like? Watching your husband and counting down the minutes until you could have sex?
Thank God the kids were with Mal.
Regina ran her mind through the obvious things. She had been on the pill for years, ever since Evie was born. It regulated her period and for the rare date that she had, she wanted to stay safe. Both of her children had been planned and she didn’t have time for any “whoops” with a one night stand. She searched her mind, trying to think of who the last person had been, realizing it was probably Ursula Triton. That had been 5 months before she even found out about the switch. Robin had told her previously that he hadn’t been with anyone since Zelena.
The anticipation was killing her.
After the last non-employees had left the party, Regina and Robin stayed behind to help clean up. Once the busboys had assured them that they could handle the rest, they drove back to the house. It being quiet was so unusual. With four kids, their life was normally anything but.
They walked inside, standing in the dark foyer for a moment. Neither moved to turn on the lights and Regina still had her black clutch in between her fingers. The only source of brightness was the porchlight outside Robin took a step closer to her, his hand grazing her back.
“I meant what I said about this dress being unfair,” he mused.
Regina softly smiled. “Do you want to do something about it?”
“I do…if you do.” He was quiet for a moment. “We’re husband and wife, this shouldn’t be so weird.”
“To be fair, this isn’t the most…traditional of marriages.”
“I guess it’s not.”
Regina brushed her fingers over his stubble. “I’ve wanted this. I wouldn’t let myself think about it…but I wanted it.”
“You should’ve said something.”
“And risk what we have?”
“I feel like we’re overthinking things.”
He cupped her cheek and kissed her, causing Regina to drop her clutch. The butterflies were replaced by a warm tingly feeling, almost as if she were merely getting wet by his tongue grazing her own. She wasn’t that easy…was she? No, no, she told herself. It had just been awhile and it was so long overdue…
Fuck, she didn’t want to think anymore.
By the time they pulled away for air, Regina was already leading the way up to the bedroom. Along the way, clothes were discarded along with any undergarments they had underneath. Regina took in Robin’s body once they reached the bedroom. She had seen him without a shirt before, but never his lower half. He was already hard, his cock quite large.
“Someone’s eager,” she whispered.
Robin grinned, taking her in as well. “Those breasts.”
He took a step forward, cupping them in his hands. Robin began kissing her neck, somehow finding her sweet spot within moments. Regina let out a soft moan, tilting her head back. His hands traveled lower, locating her own downstairs department. It had been a busy couple of days and she hadn’t had the time to shave, so there was a little fuzz. If Robin minded, he didn’t say anything. His fingers pulled onto the bits, causing her to let out another moan.
“Protection,” he mumbled, half-heartedly.
“On the pill.”
That was all he needed to pull her into his arms and lay her backwards on the bed. There would be no staying on their respective sides that night, she was placed right in the middle. Robin leaned down, acting like he was learning a new trades. He kissed various parts of her body, trying to find what made her moan the hardest. His fingers slipped inside her clit and he was gentle, aware of the lack of lubricant to protect her. Even so, she could feel herself becoming wetter by the moment. She easily could’ve orgasmed to that alone, but she didn’t want to.
“Robin,” she gasped, as his fingers went a bit deeper.
“Mmm…”
“As much as I love that, I don’t want our first time to be me coming all over your fingers.”
He chuckled, pulling out and carding his clean hand through her hair. “Oh? What is it you want?”
Regina decided to take charge, leaning up and grabbing hold of him by the waist. “You know exactly what I want, so you better give it to me. From the looks of it, your cock is ready as well.”
A smirk tugged across Robin’s lips, knowing full and well that his erection was waiting on them. “Ma’am, yes ma’am.”
Robin straddled her and once he was inside, she knew she couldn’t be on the bottom anymore. With a little force, he got the message to pull out and roll over, so she could ride him as she wanted. Her fingers gripped onto his dirty blonde hair, staring down into his deep blue eyes. He was moaning all the while, she could swear he’d whimper a bit whenever she pulled away from him. The sound made her chuckle, as she leaned down to graze his lips with a kiss.
They lasted for longer than she originally imagined, despite how ready they had felt before. She realized that some things simply couldn’t be rushed. The end result was worth it, feeling him come inside of her and the orgasm that followed was truly wonderful. She wouldn’t be able to walk the best the next day, but it would definitely be worth it.
Laying beside him, Robin wrapped his arms around her. For the past 7 months, they had fallen asleep on their respective sides of the bed and yet always wound up tangled up together the following morning. Both blamed it on the fact that that they moved in their sleep. Tonight was different, they chose to cuddle up in one another’s arms before they did. As she looked up at the man she had just had sex with, Regina realized that she loved Robin Locksley. It was too soon to say it, but fuck it if it wasn’t true.
She fell asleep in a man’s arms for the first time since Daniel died. No other person, man or woman, had ever actually spent the night nor had she at their place. That was intimate to her. Doing it with Robin, it just felt right.
Little did she realize, Robin was not falling asleep that easily. He held her in his arms, watching as she drifted off. While she felt pure bliss, he suddenly felt very scared. He too had come to the realization that he was falling in love with Regina Mills.
He had only ever been in love once before, that was with Marian. Her death had left him shaken. Despite the warnings from the doctors and their several discussions over the what ifs, the event itself had been enough to traumatize Robin. In one moment, they were celebrating the birth of their beautiful baby boy. In the next, Marian was gone. There had been no time for infamous last words, no goodbyes or “I love you”s were exchanged. No, she had a seizure and he was rushed out of the room with the baby. Within a half hour, he got the news. They had done all they could, but there was no saving her.
Robin gained a son, but lost his wife. He did his best to keep it together. He put himself last for a very long time, to the point that his health was compromised. He learned how to ask for help, he learned that he could feel whole again. Losing his parents had been hard and at the time, he thought it’d possibly be the hardest thing he’d go through. In the end, it had been losing Marian that destroyed him
“What have I done,” he muttered to himself as he watched Regina sleep. He had allowed his emotions to get the best of him, he was falling for her and that was dangerous. What if he committed his heart and then he lost her? What if she left him in the same way that Marian had?
Robin couldn’t give his heart to Regina. Not because it still belonged to Marian, but because of what she represented. He couldn’t let his heart go through that pain again. Marian had been the last loss he could possibly suffer and he’d cling to her if it meant no more pain.
“I am so sorry, Regina,” Robin whispered.
He kissed her forehead before climbing out of bed. Pulling on some pajamas, he tidied up the stairs and left a note for her, letting her know that he’d pick up the kids in the morning. He spent the rest of the night, trying to fall asleep on the couch, but by the time he left for Mal’s, there were bags under his eyes. They symbolized both his lack of sleep and his guilt.

“Aren’t they a little old to be adopted?” Confessions verse regarding Henry and Roland?
This ended up being more Outlaw Believer than anything, I just feel like this subject is covered a lot more with Dimples Queen than them. Takes place in the future fic for this series: Robin’s Revenge.
Also on AO3
Robin knew that DNA didn’t have to make a family. Hehad spent 3 years loving a child with all he had, knowing that she wasn’t hisbiologically. Getting Evie in his life hadn’t changed how deeply he lovedBryony and he knew that.
He also knew that as much as both girls had crept theirway into his hearts, so had a certain boy: Henry.
When he had first moved in with Regina, he had made itclear that he didn’t want to overstep. Obviously as Regina’s husband, he’d beable to enforce rules and such, but Henry was a good kid. He stayed out oftrouble, helped out with his younger siblings and considered Roland the littlebrother he never had. He had adapted to the situation a lot better than any 11-year-oldwould and Regina chalked that up to him being an old soul. Even so, Robin knewthat Henry never had a father before and was okay with that. He liked Robin, but they had more of a long lost uncle and nephew kind of vibe, than one offather and son.
Regina brought up adopting Roland first, around thesame time that they were working out the adoptions for the girls. Even thoughthey were married, there were certain things that they couldn’t do as thenon-legal guardian of the child.
“I want to adopt Roland,” she said one night after allthe kids had gone to bed.
Robin looked up from the bills he was paying. “You do?”
“I’ve known him for almost 2 years now, I love himjust as much as I do the girls and Henry. He’s a part of this family, what doesit say to him if I adopt his sister and not him?”
Robin paused for a moment, reflecting on her words. Heknew deep down that she was right. Roland considered Regina his mother, he had evenfallen into the habit of calling her “Mama” now that Bryony did the same. Hehad no objections to Roland being adopted, he would trust Regina with all ofthe kids if anything were to take him from them.
Yet…he thought about Henry. What would that say tohim? If Regina was adopting Bryony and Roland, and Robin was adopting Evie…wheredid that leave Henry? Of course if anything happened to Regina, he would takecustody of Henry in a heartbeat. There’d be no question about it in his mind.Yet, wouldn’t it just be simpler if it wasn’t even a process?
Plus…it wasn’t just about the what-ifs behind thefuture. He loved Henry, he considered him his son. He was his child, just as muchas Roland was Regina’s. He never understood how a step-parent could be around achild for so long and feel nearly nothing for them. He wanted things to belegally binding.
It was still different. Roland, Bryony and Evie wereyounger. Roland had immediately jumped at the chance for Regina to officiallybe his mother and of course, Henry had blessed it. He was only 8, though, and hadonly been 6 when he met Regina. Henry had just celebrated his 13thbirthday, he was getting older. Would he even want to be adopted by Robin?
Robin was so distracted by all that was going on, hehad tuned out most of Will’s story about something cute his daughter had done. Heand Anastasia had finally settled down, gotten married and started a family.Robin never thought he’d see the day when all Will wanted to talk about wasbabies, yet there it was.
“She smiled for the first time,” he said, excitedly. “Areal smile, no gas or nothing.”
“That’s awesome.”
Will paused, his smile fading a bit. “You’re not here, are you?”
“What are you talking about? We’ve been sitting herefor an hour.”
“Yeah and you’ve been zoning out for most of it. What’sgoing on?”
Robin sighed, rubbing his temples. “Regina’s adoptingRoland…and I’ve been thinking about doing the same for Henry.”
“Aren’t they a little old to be adopted? Plus, you twoare already married.”
“One, they’re not too old,” Robin said with an eye roll.“Two, being married doesn’t guarantee a lot. I can’t bring Henry to the doctorwhen he’s sick, if anything happened to me, Regina getting Roland wouldn’t beguaranteed.”
“I suppose I see your point thee. What does Reginathink about you adopting Henry?”
“I haven’t told her yet, or spoken to Henry about itfor that matter.”
“Why?”
“For the exact reason you said. He’s 13, for 11 yearshe didn’t even have a father figure in his life. It was just him and Regina, and I know they were fine with that.”
Will raised an eyebrow. “I thought Henry accepted you.”
“He has, but it’s not like he thinks of me as his dadand I’m okay with that. I like how things are, I love him like my own and I’vetold him that. It’s just…I want it to be official. I want to be able to say, this is my son, Henry.”
“So, adopt him.”
Robin threw his hands up in the air. “You say like it’sas easy as adopting a puppy.”
“So, maybe it’s not.” Will shrugged. “What I do knowis, somehow you and Regina have managed to make this little family of yourswork. You all love each other, the kids are well adjusted, things are great. IfHenry has been this accepting thus far, what’s the harm in asking?”
“Because he could say no, okay?” Robin bit his lip. “AndI’d never blame him for it, it’d just…it’d hurt a little.”
Will nodded. “Well, I’ll give you the same advice Idid when you weren’t sure how Regina felt about you…you’ll never know until youtry.”
It was simple advice, but it did give Robin thecourage to talk to Regina about it nonetheless. She thought it was a great ideaand was all for it. However, she also said it was her son’s choice and Robinwould have to talk to him about it himself.
So, one day, Regina took the girls and Roland to thepark to play and Robin took Henry to the bookstore. He let the teen pick out afew new novels and they grabbed some ice cream before walking around a bit.
“So…you know that I love you, right?” Robin asked.
Henry nodded, taking a bite of his rocky road. “Yeah,I love you too.”
The little comment made his heart skip a beat. “Andyou know that your mom is going to adopt Roland.”
He paused for a moment. “Yeah.”
“Are you okay with that?
“Yeah, I mean…yeah.”
“You can tell me how you really feel.”
Henry sighed, digging the toe of his sneaker into thedirt. “It’s just…when Roland, Evie and Bryony get adopted…you’re changing allof their last names to Locksley-Mills, right?”
“Yes.”
“And you and Mom changed your last names, too.”
“We did.”
“So…I’d be the only one with the last name Mills. Almostlike…I’m not a part of the family.”
“Hey,” Robin touched his chin so he looked at him. “Youwill always be a part of this family,Henry. No matter who has what last name.”
“I know. And I know that it shouldn’t matter…maybe it’sstupid.”
“It’s not stupid it at all. You know, the truth is, I don’tneed a piece of paper for Bryony or Evie to be my daughters, I love them regardless.Yet, sometimes a piece of paper means a lot more than we want to give it creditfor. It’s permanent, it means that nothing can change this.”
Henry was quiet for a moment, but then nodded. Robinlet out a deep breath, hoping the next part would come out how he intended.
“I’ve been thinking lately that I need that piece of paper with you,” Robinsaid, finally. “I love you, Henry. I consider you as much my son as I do Roland. It’s okay if you don’t call me “Dad” or anything, I know for 11 years you werefine without a father figure. You took this whole situation with such grace, more than I think any kid your age would. You’re amazing, smart and talented, you’rea member of my family and I’d like to make it official.”
Reaching into his messenger bag, he pulled out one ofthe manila envelopes that Mal had given him to look over. It had Henry’s name scrawledout across the front. Robin handed it over to Henry and watched as he openedit, his eyes widening.
“You want to adopt me?” He whispered.
Robin nodded. “More than anything. What do you say?”
Henry was quiet for a bit more, before stopping at abench and putting all his stuff down. Before Robin knew what was happening,Henry was throwing his arms around his waist and hugging him tighter than ever.A smile spread across Robin’s face and he hugged him tighter.
“I’m guessing that’s a yes?”
“It’s a yes,” Henry breathed. “Are you sure this iswhat you want?”
“Of course it is.”
“Okay.”
“I love you, Henry.”
“I love you too…Dad.”

Robin’s Revenge: Part 6
For Day Six (Saturday) of @oqpromptparty.
#137: Henry worries about his mother and confides in Robin.
Takes place in the future of Confessions.
Also on AO3
From the moment Regina had been placed on bedrest, everything in the house had shifted. Robin was picking up the slack and trying to balance the kids along with his business. Luckily, Mal and Will came over as much as they could to help out. Mary Margaret took the younger ones a lot and even John would try to convince Robin to forget about the bar and just relax.
But one person was working just as hard as Robin was and that was Henry. He had stopped hanging out with his friends after school and took on a lot of the chores, without even being asked. He helped the younger kids with their homework and tucked them into bed. If Robin had to dash to the bar at night, he’d make sure that everyone was okay. Despite both Robin and Regina telling him it wasn’t necessary, he didn’t seem to want to listen.
Robin knew that there had to be more going on. Henry seemed so stressed, he was taking on far too much responsibility, more than a child his age should. It wasn’t even necessary, with all the adults pitching in, everything was going to be okay.
So, when the kids were at yet another playdate at the Nolans, Robin decided to take Henry hiking. It was one of their favorite activities to do together and normally they had to do the easy trails because of everyone else, but that day, they could venture around as much as they wanted.
“Henry, I know you’ve been doing more than your fair share as of late,” Robin said after a half hour of walking in silence.
Henry shrugged. “It’s not a big deal.”
“It is. Bud, you don’t need to do all of this. You’re still a kid.”
“Yeah, but I’m just getting ready. In case…” He trailed off and shook his head. “Never mind.”
“No, talk to me.” He placed a hand on his arm. “What’s going on in that head of yours?”
Henry sighed, biting his lip. “When Mom was pregnant with Evie…or well, Bryony, I guess…she got sick. She had to go to the hospital and she delivered early. I remember overhearing my mom talking to Aunt Mal about getting her affairs in order…just in case.”
“I’m sure that was very scary for you.”
“It was. Then…she was okay. She was fine. And I thought it’d stay that way…until she got pregnant again. It’s not as bad as before, at least she gets to be on bedrest at home this time but…” He bit his lip. “I’m scared, again. What if something happens to her? The other day I found myself angry at this baby because it’s hurting her and that’s not fair to them, they can’t help it. If something happens to her…what if I can’t love this baby?”
Robin felt his heart sink his chest. Henry’s fears had been his own, way back when Marian was pregnant. She found out the pregnancy was high risk, that either she or Roland could die during any part of it. Yet, she soldiered on and in the end, it cost her, her life. When Robin got word, he was scared to hold Roland, scared that he would resent the newborn’s existence.
Yet, when he finally did, he saw nothing but his son. This precious baby boy was all he had left of his beautiful wife and he would protect him with all he had.
He also knew that Regina wasn’t Marian.
“Henry, the doctor told your mom this isn’t like last time,” Robin said. “Yes, she’s on bedrest and will need another C-Section, but the whole point is to avoid what did happen last time. She’s going to be okay, the baby is too.”
“How do you know that? Anything can happen.”
“You’re right, it can. It happened to my first wife.”
Henry frowned. “I forgot about that.”
“And it’s okay to be scared, to be afraid. I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t sure how I would handle Roland after Marian died. When I held him, though, I knew that he was my son. I knew that it wasn’t his fault and that he just needed me.”
“I’m still scared, Dad,” Henry whispered. “I love Roland, Bryony and Evie so much. I’m scared of not feeling the same with this baby.”
“You will. I know it, because you are a good boy, Henry. You have a huge heart and you’re rational. All these fears and the anxiety will go away once your mother has this baby, I promise.”
Henry was still skeptical and he would be until the day that Regina gave birth. She was healthy and so was the baby.
When Henry held his new little sibling, he felt stupid for ever being angry at them. Robin assured him that it was human and that it didn’t matter anymore. This baby would be loved and taken care of, just like the rest of the Locksley-Mills family.

Confessions: Prologue
Summary: They say first comes love, then comes marriage, followed by the baby. For Regina and Robin, things go backwards.
A/N: This is short and I promise the next chapter will give you more background on both of their lives.
Also on AO3
Regina had never been one to rush into anything. Every single bit of her life had been planned to a t. As soon as she was established with a job, she had Henry via a sperm donor. 8 years later, she did the same thing after thinking it over clearly, discussing it with Henry and even consulting a specialist. 3 year old Evie was the newest light of their lives. Even her career as an event planner had been carefully executed.
Yet, there she stood, by a man she had known for 2 weeks in a court house. In front of them was an officiant, prattling on about something she could barely hear. Regina looked up at Robin, still a practical stranger.
“Do you, Regina Mills take Robin Locksley as your lawfully wedded husband?” The officiant asked.
Regina took a deep breath, slowly letting it out. “I do.”
How had she ended up there? A letter from her mother.
Cora Mills had passed away two years prior and Regina had thought she had handled her feelings on the matter. Her mother had never been a loving woman or a warm one. Her childhood was a strict one, never living up to Cora’s unrealistic expectations. She had drifted apart from her after college, only reconnecting when she had Henry. For all her faults, Cora did seem to love her grandson. She spoiled him and seemed to treat him with a light that she never bestowed upon Regina. They weren’t close, but she was present. She helped Regina with him, she’d babysit when the time called for it.
After Evie’s birth, however, things seemed to go back to how they were before. Cora distanced herself and Regina wasn’t surprised. For 8 years, she had waited for the shoe to drop and it finally had. She didn’t know if it was because she had used yet another sperm donor to get pregnant or if it was because she was still unmarried. All that mattered was that Cora kept her distance once again, until her death a little after her granddaughter’s first birthday.
Regina received a small inheritance, the house and other possessions went to Cora’s sister. Regina didn’t care, she just felt guilty because she felt relief. Her life without Cora was less stressful, she felt more accepted and oddly, more loved.
And then the letter had to surface, one that would change her entire life in an instant.
Regina,
I have always done what I thought was best for you, even if you couldn’t see it at the time. You always seemed to resent me and pushed me away. When you had Evie, both of you had complications. They were trying to save you from the C-Section and for a moment, they were worried about Evie as well. She was 2 weeks early and was having some medical issues. I knew that you couldn’t be burdened with a child who could possibly spend her life needing constant medical care, so I once again stepped in and did what I needed to do.
You always said that love is not connected to DNA, so this shouldn’t change anything. I just feel that as a mother, you have the right to know. Within minutes of your baby being born, another little girl was as well. The mother sent the baby to the nursery right away and I switched the bracelets.
Evie is your daughter, however she is not the child that you gave birth to.
