Do you have any good BotW/TotK fic recs? Yours or other people’s!
Boy howdy DO I.
Going to preface this by saying that I have preferences, and those preferences tend to veer towards gay shit and people who don't initially get along ending up ride or die, and as such a high proportion of these are going to be Revalink.
Anyway. The fic that got me into that ship, changed my brain chemistry, and is a large part of why I go !!!! about ghosts (literal and nonliteral) haunting the narrative, characters with amnesia who are supposed to be dead, and the Rito as a whole, is Pinesong by aperplexingpuzzle and that is the fic that makes me go "if you read NOTHING else in this fandom read THIS holy fuck."
(But also you should be reading other things too, because there is so much good shit and I adore it greatly I go back to reread my favorites regularly. Also check out the authors I mention apart from just the fics I link there is so much good fic I'm forcing myself to just pick one per author or else I will be here literally all day.)
Next up: Moonlight (every single night) by Heleentje. Do you like time loops? Do you like characters slowly, painstakingly figuring out how to get it right? Did you get very attached to Revalink from the last fic? how about some ~queerplatonic Zelink~ in this trying time?
Frankly, it is very hard to pick just one fic by Ginneke, they've got so many good ones but I'm going to have to settle on Flowers from your Beloathed, which is another Revalink fic set before the Calamity where, y'know, Revali is getting flowers from a secret admirer. Except he's Revali. Hilarity ensues and I enjoyed the hell out of this one ^-^
Also also. Come Morning Light by misscoconi. Post-Calamity, they are both idiots (affectionate) and I am starting to realize that I have a bit of a pattern in my taste in Revalink fics. Huh. I'll unpack that later actually.
Skybound Wishes by Baddrummer is unfinished (unlike most of the fics I've recommended here) but y'all. Y'all it makes me lose my shit in so many ways because I am a SLUT for creative fix-it fics and gratuitous weaving-in of references to other games in ways that still respect the established canon but respect all of it, y'know, not just doing the TOTK thing of "actually nothing pre-BOTW matters anymore and neither does BOTW lol."
...I am starting to realize there may be a reason why I don't have a lot of TOTK recs. Also if this post is starting to sound unhinged and disconnected that's probably because I'm bouncing between Tumblr and studying for one of my finals like a ping pong ball.
But I do have one really, really big fic rec for TOTK. Y'all should check out Show Me the World Outside by IllusionOfDeath. The Sages get to do things, the Divine Beasts don't just vanish without a word, the Champions get actual recognition, and you can tell that the author is the Linguistics Georg (affectionate) of the fanfic world.
Anyway I think I will shill myself a bit too since you gave me permission to anon! If you read no other Zelda fics by me, may I recommend no one ever mentions fear, a fic that... it really was, in a lot of ways, a love letter to the fics in the fandom that I'd read and loved before. You've got the Champions getting to live and have nice things, you've got Revali being a dumbass (affectionate), you've got gay shit, you've got Problems Being Caused by the Yiga Clan in the background.
...Oh god this post is getting. A little longer than I meant for it to I've realized. Um. I love fanfic and tbh if you end up reading everything I've recced and still want more, my bookmarks on AO3 are public and I tend to bookmark just about everything I've read and liked enough to want to find again.
......I should probably get back to studying now but thank you for the ask! I like rambling lol

The World Will Only Darken Without Candlelight - Chapter 4
Girls like me don’t cry
Ao3 is back and I only had to hold onto this one for a few hours. That’s good, because the second I have to keep anything longer, I will edit it to an unrecognizable death.
Also yay for Ao3! Also apparently it’s Zelink week, so that’s fun, though this isn’t following any sort of prompt for that.
7467 Words
Read it on Ao3!
Tell me that you’ll keep me safe and never let this fade away I'm hiding out so they don't see this part of me Girls like me don't cry Girls like me pretend we don't cry
Link lived in a bus.
Link lived in a fucking bus in the parking lot. An old school bus painted with a geometric sort of motif of forests and mountains.
Converted, quite nicely, Zelda might add, into a tiny house on wheels in which she now sat, screaming into her cracked phone. “Why are both you and Urbosa telling me not to call the cops? I was just assaulted, dad! Link is still over here bleeding all over his…bus.”
Of course he lived in a bus.
Rhoam’s voice on the other end of the line was still groggy with sleep. He hadn’t bothered to turn off the TV he'd fallen asleep in front of, which Zelda could still hear blaring a cable news station in the background.
“Just trust me on this,” he begged of her. “Trust me and stay with Link until I’m there. I’m getting my keys now and I’ll be there as soon as I can, princess.”
“Are you going to fucking explain what’s going on?” Zelda shouted back at him.
She wasn’t all that confident she could convince her phone to make another call after this one. The cracked screen was flickering in and out, and the touch controls were hit or miss.
She’d wasted that first call on Urbosa, who had first apologized for letting her leave alone, then told Zelda not to call the cops, call her dad, and call her back immediately if he didn’t answer.
And now this.
“Stay with Link,” her father repeated. “I’m on my way.”
He hung up on her. Or her phone stopped working. Zelda couldn’t be sure, but it took every ounce of control she had not to throw it clear across the bus. Maybe at Link, who was standing between her and the door, paper towel held to the worst of his bloodied knees.
But, no, not at him. He’d just saved her fucking life. The mute, short, horse girl of a man who lived in a bus.
At least it was a nice bus. Very cozy. All finished out with what seemed like recycled wood and clean, soft white paint. Something that an Instagram van-lifer would dream of.
Zelda sat at a little dinette of that same recycled wood, on a bench softened by dark green upholstery cushions.
“Here. It’s okay. Come with me,” had been the second thing Link ever said to her.
And, “Do you, uh, want a water or something?” was the third as he noticed her call had ended and she was now the one staring at him.
“You live in a bus,” she observed.
“Yup,” he answered.
“You just saved my life,” Zelda continued stating the obvious, hoping that repeating it would make the words make more sense to her.
“I guess?” was Link’s answer.
“You can talk.”
“Yup.”
“And you’re a wonderful conversationalist,” she noted. “Full of details. Fuck. I’m sorry. You don’t deserve how I’m talking to you right now. How I have talked to you. I’m sorry for everything.”
“It’s okay.”
It was not okay. Someone just held a knife to her throat and tried to zip tie her hands. Link had just presumably seen this across the parking lot, run out of his lovely bus home in just a pair of shorts, and tackled that someone to the ground like some sort of wrestling cage match and fought him off. And for all this, Zelda was supposed to not call the police?
“I’ll--sorry--I’ll take the water.”
He nodded, artfully scooting past her in the cramped space toward the little kitchen area, where a small but not small enough to necessarily be called mini fridge sat built into the white cabinets. It too was green, retro-looking, and very much stocked to the brim.
Link handed her a bottle of water before checking his knee and tossing the bloody paper towel into a garbage can hidden in yet another cabinet.
Whatever wounds had been inflicted on him seemed to be entirely due to the fact that he’d charged through a gravel parking lot half-naked in the middle of the night to save her. Without a shirt, he wasn’t as scrawny as Zelda thought. Obviously, he had to have some muscle on him to do the things she’d seen him do. She just was somehow expecting less.
And blamed her current emotional state for even thinking about that.
“My dad’s coming to get me,” she relayed as she decided it was better to stare at the bottle of water instead.
Link grunted an ascent to this. From the sheer volume of her previous conversation alone, she suspected that she didn’t have to tell him. But she did anyway.
He went over to the kitchen again, wetting a dishrag in the sink before wiping his face with it. The cut there had stopped bleeding on their walk over to the bus.
The bus, the only thing parked in the old RV spots that night. Rhoam used to let performers camp at the site, and apparently still did. For all he’d complained about it looking “trashy”, obviously the hookups still worked to the point where Link’s bus had power and water. Soft LED lighting had made it a haven in the darkness.
A bus. A fucking bus.
“Do you know what’s going on?” Zelda started up again, asking without even popping the cap on the water bottle. “Actually no, I know you do. I know you’ll tell me the same thing as them. Not to call the cops.”
Link winced at this. Actually winced. Maybe it was from stinging the cut on his forehead. Maybe not.
But he’d gone mute again, and gave no other response.
That only set Zelda off more. “You do and you would. You’re standing here bleeding all over your fucking bus and you’re going to tell me to keep quiet about it just like them. Why? Why did I bother coming back to this crazy little fucked up make-believe world you people live in?”
Link offered no answer to that.
Zelda looked down at her phone again, half of a mind to dial for emergency services anyway and defy all of them. Her father, Urbosa, Link. Hell, she had the numbers of the other Champions and would bet money they were in on it too if she bothered to ring them.
But it didn’t matter, because the phone only offered one last weak flicker to her touch before going black.
“I didn’t really mean that. I’m sorry,” was all Zelda had to say after that.
She slumped into the dinette table, head falling into the cradle of her forearms on the varnished wood.
A hand appeared in the sliver of vision that was left to her to slide the neglected water bottle toward her as Link crossed back once again to stand between her and the door.
“Are you okay?” Zelda thought to ask him, not bothering with the water, but turning her head the other way so she could see him out of the corner of her eye.
“Yeah,” was Link’s answer to that. He seemed to think about it for a moment.
Zelda turned her head just a little more, peering through the long blonde strands of her own hair at him. For once, he wasn’t looking at her, but out of the glass of the door, seeming not to trust that they were well and truly done with whatever was out there, lurking in the dark. Or maybe he was hoping to see the headlights of Rhoam’s car appear so he could be done with her. Probably that one, actually.
“I’m sorry for ruining your night,” Zelda told him as she buried her face in her arms completely. “And basically your entire day. But you deserved to at least have the evening to yourself after putting up with my shit and now here I am, sitting at your table.”
“It’s okay.”
It wasn’t okay. She wanted him so badly to say that it wasn’t okay. That he hated her. That he despised her. That she was selfish and immature and ungrateful. That for all he cared, he could have just watched her get kidnapped and done nothing and had a better tomorrow for it. She was just an entitled brat, after all. The boss’ daughter, who didn’t even want to be there.
But instead, Link wandered past again, and pushed the cold water bottle at her elbow insistently.
This time, he went deeper into the bus, and when Zelda looked up to follow him with her eyes, emerged from the back of it, now wearing a faded graphic t-shirt she couldn’t quite make out the wording on. But she could make out the image of a knight on a horse. A different renaissance faire’s logo?
He looked at her, looking at him. He opened his mouth to say something, then reconsidered. He took a step forward, then tried again, “I was going to make dinner. I didn’t eat. You didn’t eat either. I don’t think, at least. Do you, um…?”
Link didn’t manage to finish the sentence. That many words at once seemed like it was too much for him, or maybe just too much for now. Even several feet down the bus, Zelda could see him shaking just slightly as he held his hands up in a bit of a shrug. Shaking just as she had when she’d followed him to the bus, fumbling to find Urbosa’s contact in her dying phone.
Zelda knew that feeling well. The tremor of anxiety and leftover adrenaline. The need to do something with that energy, anything, always. Because if she stopped, she would have to face reality. She would have to face the past and future alike, and watch them tear her apart.
“That sounds great,” she eventually answered. “And you’re right. I didn’t really eat. But…you don’t have to. You don’t have to do anything for me. You’ve already done too much.”
Link didn’t offer any response to that protest, and instead buried himself in the little fridge again. He gathered item after item, holding them to his chest before going over to the stove with an armful of things. A container of takeout rice. Two eggs wrapped between fingers. A bunch of green onions. A bottle of some brown sauce. A green-lidded tupperware whose contents were otherwise unidentifiable. A chunk of butter. A bag of frozen peas.
Zelda cracked open the bottle of water, finally. She sipped it as she watched him chop the onions. She watched him crack the eggs and whip them with a fork. She watched him dump the rice into a wok he pulled out. She watched as the tremors in him seemed to calm, slowly but surely, as the tupperware revealed a chunk of ham that he diced into smaller chunks of ham.
She watched as Link made fried rice that looked better than anything she’d eaten in weeks. She watched him smile to himself as he flipped it in the wok.
Short, horse girl chef man. Bloody knees. Lived in bus. He hummed a little as he cooked, seemingly lost in the process, forgetting all else. In his happy place, finally.
And here Zelda was, drinking her water and watching him, feeling the adrenaline leave her system too. Slowly and steadily, not like the confusing rush that had happened after her attacker ran off. Or the anger-filled void of staring at her broken phone.
This time, she only felt tired. Bone tired. She just wanted this night to be over. This long, terrible awful opening day of the faire. She wanted to just start over, honestly. Start over and try again. Curl up onto this dinette bench and its soft green cushions and wait for morning to come.
So when Rhoam came knocking at the door of the bus, just as Link was setting down a bowl of that delicious-smelling fried rice in front of her, Zelda decided it was not worth trying to explain why she didn’t really want to leave. Not that she could explain it, really.
She didn’t even get to try the rice.
---
“For the last time, I am physically fine!” Zelda shouted at her father as he drove down the mostly abandoned avenue that would lead back to their suburban home. “Mentally, I would be much better if I knew what was going on. Especially why you won’t involve the authorities in, I don’t know, your only child being attacked in the parking lot of a venue you own? One where, let’s not forget, you host a renaissance faire primarily attended by families with--”
“I’m sorry this happened to you,” Rhoam cut her off, repeating the same phrase for at least the fifth time in this awful car ride. “But I’m glad Link was there. And you’ll have to trust that I’m handling it.”
“You and a semi-mute horse girl that lives in a bus are going to keep me safe?” Zelda challenged from the passenger’s seat, arms crossed over her tank top, running parallel to the horizontal stripes that crossed it.
“Horse girl?”
“Link!”
The grimace that had been firmly planted on Rhoam’s face since Zelda began her much-deserved rant softened a little, revealing a smirk beneath it. “The lad is a bit of a horse girl. Good kid, though. And he even watched out for you off the clock.”
“I don’t want to be watched out for, dad,” Zelda told him, unphased by his odd fondness for Link this time. “I want to just work through my summer and get out of here. Right now, I’m thinking I should do that in Hateno. Working at a coffee shop or the campus bookstore couldn’t possibly be as awful as this.”
“I’d rather you didn’t,” Rhoam swept in, scowl back on his face even though he kept his eyes on the road. “Now that this has happened, it’s better you’re here and have someone to look after you. Clearly Link is working out.”
“What is with you and him anyway?” Zelda asked, then thought for a moment before she began outlining her priorities, “That’s low on the list, actually. First, why was I attacked? Second, why won’t you call the cops? Third, why do you trust the weird dude who lives in a bus to keep me safe?”
“What’s wrong with living in a bus? You saw it. It’s a nice bus. I would have loved to have something like that when I was his age,” Rhoam said.
“There’s nothing wrong with living in a bus! Forget point number three entirely!” Zelda demanded, voice raising and pitch sharpening along with it as she clung to the armrest, turned as much toward him as her seatbelt would allow.
“I can’t have you involved,” Rhoam told her, his answer quiet and low in comparison.
“Dad, I’m already involved.”
She was too involved. So involved. So involved she could still feel the knife on her throat. Link’s shaking hand reaching for her elbow. The copper penny smell of his blood. The way her heart beat and beat and her brain somehow did nothing for all the effort.
Zelda had never felt so helpless in her entire life. Losing the internship was the worst thing to happen to her up until tonight. Now, she could have that terrible phone call with her dad any day, everyday, in exchange for never having to experience that again.
Rhoam hit a red light on the intersection before the one that he’d turn on to get into their subdivision. The road was nearly empty, and no one was waiting at the cross street. The light caught them purely on a timer, not for any need.
Well, any need besides Zelda’s. “Please, dad. It’s too late for you to keep me in the dark.”
“You weren’t supposed to be here,” was Rhoam’s answer as he finally turned to her.
“I didn’t want to be either,” Zelda told him.
Though these last two weeks between that fateful phone call and tonight had her questioning if she’d really rather be accepted for the internship at alll. Disease research was fascinating, sure, but it didn’t fill her with the passionate fire that other things did.
Sometimes it was just a brief, fleeting burn. She’d binge watch some shitty series while studying and then become utterly obsessed with it for a week. Then her favorite character would get killed off or do something stupid and her interest would immediately dissipate as if it had never existed at all.
But other things…they felt like the only things keeping her alive. Breath and blood. Each new fact or concept she grasped about archeology filled her with energy that vibrated her very bones and sinew. Reading papers on new discoveries was her guilty pleasure. Normal people didn’t subscribe to several scientific journals to get their daily serotonin, but Zelda did.
In fact, a good paper was just about the only thing that was going to calm her down enough to even get a shred of sleep tonight. That or some fried rice.
Fuck. She was starving.
But her father was cracking, looking down at her from across the cab of his truck. The information would have to fill her for now. “I received some threatening letters a few weeks ago. Several of them. Threats to me, to you, to the faire. Me, I could care less about. The faire, well, I can get help there. You, though. You, I won’t negotiate on.”
“Wait, what?”
She hadn’t expected this honestly, despite receiving it. But clearly, her father was feeling guilty enough to keep talking, so Zelda let him.
“I thought it was just some kids at first, threatening to pipe bomb the faire or whatever. I didn’t call the cops then because I couldn’t afford to have them shut us down if they decided to take things seriously. So I didn’t,” Rhoam explained.
The light turned green again, and he used the need to press down on the accelerator to take a pause.
“But they threatened me?” Zelda asked to keep him going.
Rhoam blew a sigh out of his nose. His beard didn’t ruffle much for it, having been flattened from its kingly glory by his nap on the couch and subsequent rush to come get her. “Eventually. Clearly whoever it is knows a lot about me.”
“What do they want?”
The eternal question. But Zelda wasn’t used to being the center of it. She’d watched her father deal with the many dramas of running the faire over the years. Dealing with high maintenance vendors and performers alike. Someone always wanted something from him. More space. More money. More time on stage. More, more, more.
“The castle,” was Rhoam’s answer.
He turned onto their street, into a neighborhood of simple, modest homes, most of them several decades old. Theirs was no exception. Tan brick, white siding, blue shutters. Three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Badly in need of a kitchen renovation. Hardly a castle itself.
“They want me to put the castle ruins up for sale,” Rhoam continued. “By midsummer. In the middle of the faire.”
“The midsummer festival is the busiest week of the faire,” Zelda noted. “Why would whoever this is think you’d be okay with that? It’d ruin you.”
“I’m not okay with it. That’s why they’re threatening me and my family,” Rhoam concluded. “Again, if it were just me, it’d be different. But people depend on that faire. People I’ve known for years and years. People you’ve grown up with. And you…”
His hands gripped at the leather of the steering wheel until it creaked. Zelda had no doubt in her mind where she’d gotten that bad habit of clenching her fists and crushing water bottles from.
Rhoam turned into their driveway with the steering wheel still under threat from his meaty fingers. “Link came to me looking for work,” he went on. “Exactly on the day that I got the letter that made a threat on you. And then you called me about the internship when he was still sitting in my office.”
The fact that the timing of all this was terribly convenient wasn’t lost on Zelda. But it paled in comparison to the deep sinkhole of embarrassment she was falling into at the idea of Link hearing her sobbing on the phone and begging her father for rescue from her own failure.
“He offered,” Rhoam told her. He pulled into the garage, shutting off the ignition and pressing the remote he kept clipped to the mirror to shut the door. “He promised me he’d keep you safe.”
“He did,” Zelda told him. “But you also could have told me. You could have given me options.”
“I wasn’t thinking straight at the time,” Rhoam admitted. His massive frame slumped against the seat of the truck. He made no move to open the door.
“I still don’t know if you’re thinking straight,” Zelda told him, unbuckling herself so she could lift her own much smaller body to twist in the seat and face him fully. “If you just told the police--”
“About a bomb threat? Kidnapping? Murder? Sure, they would definitely let me keep the faire open, Zelda. They definitely wouldn’t shut it down and leave hundreds of people without a source of income for the summer. And that’s even if they didn’t just laugh this off as some prank, even with what happened to you,” Rhoam said, shaking his head. “No, I can’t have that. I’m working on it. I promise I’m working on it.”
“How?” Zelda pried. “How can you fix that? Have Daruk go mean mug every slightly suspicious person that goes near the castle? Have Purah install some facial recognition system that scans police databases or whatever?”
“She did rig up some surveillance cameras for me.”
“Is that it?”
“No,” Rhoam told her with another shake of his head. “The good thing about working with all kinds of people for fifteen years is that you get to know, well, all kinds of people. Some of them are shady people who are good at investigating shady things. Trust me. They’re taking care of it for us, and I don’t need you sticking your nose into it.”
“You’re asking me to trust carnies in tights and armor--”
“--that you grew up around,” Rhoam reminded her. “That I consider our extended family. Don’t forget that. As much as I know you want to, please don’t forget that. It’s important to have people who have your back in life, Zelda. Sometimes, they’re not exactly the type of people you had imagined they would be, but that doesn’t change what you mean to one another.”
“It’s just--”
Rhoam finally looked over at her, turning to her. In a rare moment of contact between them--Zelda couldn’t remember the last hug she’d gotten from her father, maybe high school graduation--he took hold of her hands with his, encompassing them as he looked into her eyes.
“Zelda, please. Promise me. I told you this because it didn’t feel fair to leave you in the dark. You are involved now, yes, but I don’t want you any more involved than you are. Keep yourself safe. Don’t go off alone anymore. Stay with Link. I wrote an entire new plot for the faire to keep you with someone at all times. I know it’s not what you might want, but for now, until we figure this out, please just stick with him, all right? Stick with him and leave fixing this to me, all right?” he asked.
She looked down at his hands. So much bigger than hers. Rough and warm. A sincerity bled from his touch that went beyond the barrier of resentment between them. Beyond not being enough and being too much at the same time. Beyond being absent and too present at the same time as well.
“Okay,” Zelda answered, surprised by the shaking in her own voice.
Equally surprised by the fact that she had to run into the house after this, so that he wouldn’t see the tears that finally fell freely from her eyes then. After all that had happened, all the fear and frustration of the day, it had taken her father holding her hand to make her remember how to cry.
---
Zelda woke the next morning at seven. She’d fallen asleep maybe somewhere around four in the morning, so it wasn’t exactly a graceful rising. More of a battle against her alarm and the sandpaper consistency of her eyelids. But she won it, somehow.
And while she’d hoped to get more information out of her father over coffee, she instead came out into the kitchen to find that there was both no coffee to be found, and a note waiting for her next to a phone.
Had to go in early for a horse emergency up at the barn. Sorry, princess.
Urbosa drove your car back this morning. This phone is already activated with your number and restored from a cloud backup thanks to Purah.
Remember what I said about the people you know. And please remember what you promised.
I hate to ask you to go to work today. I really do. But please at least come to the castle so I know where you are.
- Dad
The only thing worse than having a control freak for a father was having any inclination to agree with that control. But, Zelda didn’t want to be in the house alone. So much so that she left early and made a beeline straight for the castle.
Well, with just one very short stop. Both because she very much needed to have coffee to make it through today, and because she needed to fix what she was allowed to fix. What she could fix.
It wasn’t exactly her fault she liked fixing things.
And this time, fixing things had her knocking on the door of a bus with a bag of breakfast burritos in hand.
Probably too many breakfast burritos, but she was starving, and Link clearly liked to eat.
Initially, there was no answer. Enough time passed for Zelda to think to herself about how stupid this was. How he was probably up at dawn to exercise his horse or whatever. Or help her dad with whatever horse emergency had been going on. Though she had her reasons to believe there was no such horse emergency and he just didn’t want to deal with her yelling at him in the car again.
And what if Link didn’t even like breakfast burritos? Nonsense. Everyone loves a breakfast burrito. But--
Zelda looked up from her own thoughts to find the door swinging open. A bleary-eyed Link stared down at her from an unusually high vantage for his short frame atop the steps up to the bus, loose hair wet from a shower and longer than she thought it was, but still clad in the same shirt and shorts she’d left him in last night.
The shirt she could read now that her brain was functioning normally again. The faded letters stretched across his chest spelled out, “Hateno Renaissance Festival”.
It all clicked at once. Her father’s nearly instant trust of him. His very specific set of skills relative to his young age. The brief mentions of her having met him when they were both small.
Link was another ren faire kid. Just like her.
Zelda remembered herself for a moment and held up the bag of burritos. “I um, hey. I wanted to--no, not, I don’t know--thank you? I guess? And also apologize for being awful to you. I was awful. I’m still pretty awful. But, I brought us breakfast burritos. Do you even like breakfast burritos?”
Link seemed to need a second to process that. It was early, terribly early still. Not even eight in the morning early. But also, she had been terrible to him. He had no reason to accept any sort of apology.
Especially not this early in the morning.
But, despite it all, a little closed-mouth smile appeared on his face, and he stepped aside, beckoning her to follow him up into the bus.
It was a really nice bus. Zelda had to admit that. She’d noticed the matching horse trailer parked on the side of it this morning--complete with the same paint job of the mostly green, blue, and brown geometric forest and mountain motif over white.
The full-length bus still felt oddly cozy, but at the same time bigger than she’d remembered from the night before. The little kitchen was at the front, with the dinette she’d sat at being just behind the driver’s seat. Beyond that, Zelda could see a little living room area, complete with a decent-sized couch. A wall stood to partition most of the rest of the bus beyond that, clearly for a bathroom that was big enough to fit the shower Link must have just come out of. His soap smelled nice. Very woodsy. A tiny glimpse of a bed lay beyond that, big enough to take up the entire back of the bus and scattered with an overabundance of pillows.
“I guess that’s a yes on breakfast burritos,” Zelda noted as she set the bag on the dinette table.
Link turned from where he’d retreated back into the kitchen and nodded to her, then offered, “Yes, sorry. I should have said something.”
“You don’t have to say anything,” she told him. “I’m the one who came here to apologize, and clearly you aren’t a talker. That’s fine. It’s all good.”
Zelda busied herself with setting out what was very much too many breakfast burritos in order to avoid any lingering awkwardness. She could easily house two herself, but didn’t think about doing that in mostly polite company. But there were six here. Not to mention the secret order of tater tots she ate in the car and chased with coffee.
But she didn’t know what Link liked. That was her excuse. Maybe he couldn’t do cheese, so she got some without cheese. Maybe he wasn’t a fan of the somewhat spicy Gerudo sausage that came in most of the burritos, so she had to get one with bacon instead. And then she wanted the bacon, so there were two with bacon now. And green and red salsa. Hot sauce too. Sour cream. Another order of tater tots for Link, of course, though she was definitely going to snag some. She should have gotten him a drink too. Oh well.
The dinette table was just about full from the spread by the time she looked up to see his eyes go wide from it.
“I bought way too much food,” Zelda told him and herself as well. “Don’t you dare say, ‘It’s okay,’ again either. For the record, some of this is for me. You just seemed really into food and--I don’t know. I’m sorry, okay?”
“It’s--” Link stopped himself before he could finish the phrase, and instead sat down at the dinette rather abruptly.
Zelda swallowed a breath she didn’t know she was holding and snatched one of the bacon burritos for herself. “Cheese, no cheese, bacon. Their hot sauce is amazing if you like spicy stuff. Sorry I didn’t get you a drink. I’m not very good at apologies, I guess.”
Link shrugged and took the other bacon burrito.
Good. Noted. Everyone loves bacon. Even weird little horse girl ren faire boys who Zelda just realized she likely had way too much in common with.
“I um, my dad told me a bit about what’s going on, last night that is, on the way home,” she started as she sat down on the other side of the table, on the same soft green cushions that had nearly lulled her to sleep the night before. “Not enough. He probably will never tell me everything, but I know about the threats. The letters. What you promised him. What you’re trying to do. How hard I made that for you. And I’m sorry.”
How many more times would she have to say it for things to feel right? Because it certainly didn’t sink in yet. Not even as she stared at him over the pile of burritos, trying to decide if it was weird to reach for the salsa to cover the silence.
“You said you didn’t want me to say it’s okay again,” Link finally piped up as he reached for that exact container of salsa and eased her of yet another burden.
“I don’t, but I realize that’s kind of what you’re supposed to say. At least if you mean it, that is. And I’m sorry for that too. And for bringing you a mountain of burritos to try to fix it. This was stupid. I’m being so stupid about this,” Zelda said, standing up with the full intent of leaving her half-unwrapped burrito behind and letting Link eat in peace.
He deserved that much, at least.
“It’s not stupid and neither are you,” Link affirmed, reaching out to lay just the very tips of his fingers on the back of her hand to stop her. “I love burritos.”
“Everyone loves burritos,” Zelda concluded. She looked between him and his stupid little small hands on hers. Just about as big as hers. Not massively intimidating like her father’s.
At least his touch didn’t draw tears from her.
Zelda sat back down and took the hot sauce instead. “I just--sorry--I talk too much. You’ve realized that by now, I’m sure, so I don’t know why I keep talking to tell you that. Anyway, I’m sorry. You were just trying to look out for me and I’m very grateful that you did. I understand why now and I feel like shit about it. I just want to start over with you.”
“Okay,” Link mouthed around his first bite of burrito.
“Really? It’s that easy?” Zelda asked.
Link shrugged and kept eating his burrito, clearly enjoying it, or maybe as hungry as she was.
At least he’d gotten to eat the fried rice he’d made for them. She should ask him for the recipe.
All things considered, though, Zelda couldn’t believe him. She needed more than just that shrug, but didn’t feel she could truly ask for anything else of him. She was just so used to fighting for everything and anything she’d ever wanted for herself. Her archeology minor, which she’d had to swear up and down to her father wouldn’t get in the way of her pre-med program or affect her grades in the classes that “really mattered”. Hell, even living outside of the dorms had been an argument for the ages. Going to prom with her first girlfriend. Having the girlfriend at all, as her father was worried that would distract too much from her studies. Going on a date with a guy after that had been entirely another thing too. Even getting her driver’s license. Doing anything for herself or by herself or just because she wanted to.
She wondered if Link had his own oppressive ren faire dad. If his perfect jousting was the result of the same pressure. The same…
Their hands collided again over the green salsa.
“Go ahead,” Zelda told him, quickly snatching hers back. “It’s really good. This is from one of my favorite spots. They do authentic Southern Gerudo style breakfast and lunch and are always fast. Urbosa knows the owner, because of course Urbosa knows anyone who’s so much as even been near the desert. I should have gotten you a coffee too. I didn’t know if you liked coffee. Their coffee is amazing. Sorry, I’m talking again.”
“I don’t mind,” Link told her as he doused his burrito in the green salsa. “You always have interesting things to say.”
Not shut up Zelda. Stop talking Zelda. Okay no one cares Zelda. I’m sorry Zelda, but you lost me there. That’s nice, little bird, don’t you have somewhere else to be right now?
People were always trying to get her to shut up. No one had ever been interested in her rambling before. Even most people’s politeness had a limit that she would very quickly and easily exceed.
So, “Oh,” was all she could say to that, along with taking a bite of burrito with maybe a little too much hot sauce on it to cover that up.
Definitely too much hot sauce. To the point where she was coughing from it and Link had to get up to get both of them a bottle of water.
This time, at least, Zelda was self-conscious enough to avoid crushing it. Link’s little laugh at her struggle helped, as did the fact that he seemed to take this as his cue to dunk his second burrito in the offending hot sauce, and then have his own personal battle with the spice level of it.
“It’s really good,” Zelda repeated between bouts of spicy laughter.
“Yeah,” Link choked back at her.
Halfway through her bottle of water and a bite into a sauceless burrito to tame the last of the flames, Zelda piped up again, throat finally clear enough to speak, “Anyway, I wanted to again just apologize for being awful to you and for evading you. And thank you for last night. I don’t really want to think about what would have happened if you weren’t there.”
“Me either.”
Link didn’t say much, even with him now breaking his seeming vow of silence around her, but when he did say anything, the words always packed a punch. Somehow, they struck a chord on the very sinew that held Zelda together, playing her like the faire musicians would their lutes or fiddles.
She wondered why, then, had he not spoken to her at all before, or presumably to anyone but her father. Clearly he could. Clearly, even if he wasn’t comfortable with it, he knew how to make his words matter.
“Can I ask you something?” she questioned as she let her wondering spill from her lips. “You don’t have to answer if it’s a difficult answer or at least difficult to explain. But, um, why don’t you talk to anyone?”
Blue eyes looked up from her beneath a mop of dirty blonde hair drying to a slight wave. He still had half a burrito in one hand, a tater tot in the other, and a streak of green salsa down his chin.
Link swallowed before replying, slow and low, “It was easier, I guess. If I wasn’t supposed to talk to you about what was happening. Your dad said it might be better just not to talk to you at all. And then it didn’t seem fair to talk to anyone else. Keeping the secret was my burden to bear. I don’t talk a lot anyway, so it was easier just not to talk at all.”
It was the most she’d ever heard him say at once, but exactly no more than what needed to be said. Succinct and to the point. The enraging, aggravating, and forever annoying point.
“It seems you and I have the same problem,” Zelda told him. “And it wears a fake crown, has a shitty beard, and thinks it knows better than us.”
Yet another thing she could blame her father for, then. Link had felt so pressured by the circumstances that he couldn’t even speak. And on top of that had presumably been made to promise not to speak of them to her, yet still be around her day in and day out.
No wonder her father had him playing the Silent Knight.
A quiet rage simmered within her at this notion. For all of her father’s good intentions in trying to keep her away from the threats to the faire, he could have easily gotten Link killed for it.
“What if he had a gun?” Zelda asked out loud. “Both of us could have ended up dead last night. For all those secrets. I promised my father I wouldn’t go to the authorities, as stupid as it seems. I also promised him I’d stick with you, and frankly, I didn’t need to make that promise. I don’t really want to be alone again after last night.”
A new paranoia had her looking around her all morning for red and black hoodies--anyone dressed uncharacteristically for the summer heat, really. Somewhere around three in the morning, as she was trying to lull herself to sleep the night before with a lovely paper about ancient Hylian pottery and just how rare it was to find a piece of it intact at any given site, Zelda had the thought that if they knew about her, then presumably they knew where she and her father lived. Maybe even where her apartment in Hateno was.
And suddenly the rare bliss of being alone and quiet with nothing but the constant ramble of her own thoughts was a thing she could no longer enjoy.
Good as it was, she was quickly losing her appetite for the rest of that second burrito, and set it down.
“Let’s…let’s not get shot about it, all right?” Zelda asked of Link, who was still eating despite the serious nature of the conversation. She was pretty sure he might still be eating if he was actively being shot at, but that was beside the point.
Still, he took a break to nod at her.
“I will warn you that I am going to be sticking my nose in this to some degree,” Zelda went on. “And you can tell on me if you want. If you must. But I’ll tell you as well that I’m going to do it in a way that keeps my promise. I’ll stick around and do my job here at the faire and not wander off alone. But, if I see something suspicious, or find some way I’m able to get more information about what’s going on otherwise, I’m going to pursue it. Just to be perfectly honest with you.”
Link gave her another nod and reached for his third burrito.
And although she was trying very much to be mad at her father and the situation he’d put both of them in at the moment, Zelda couldn’t help the smile that pulled at her lips.
That boy really did love to eat, huh? Well, at least she could always bribe him with food, if she needed to craft another apology to him for some reason.
Only when he leaned over to grab the hot sauce again and gingerly pour just a small amount onto his burrito this time, did she finally notice the thin red line that still marked his forehead from the night before. No longer actively bleeding, yes, and likely to scab over within the next few hours. It wouldn’t scar.
But still, it was there because of her.
Zelda didn’t even realize she was leaning over to brush it with her thumb until she was midway through the action. Link’s hair was soft and still damp as it parted way for her hand. His soap did smell good, at least, for a men’s product.
Link, for his part, didn’t so much as flinch, and let it happen.
“That cut doesn’t look too bad, actually,” Zelda noted as she tried to be graceful about suddenly leaning back to her side of the little dinette booth. “It’s fine for now. But you know, there’s a fine line between courage and recklessness. As brave as you are, that does not make you immortal.”
And as worried as she was for herself, Zelda certainly didn’t want him getting hurt over her either. Or worse. True enough, he had come to her rescue, but if things were only going to escalate from there, she didn’t think that his valiant, shirtless charges into battle would do either of them much good for long.
“I’m afraid things might only get worse from here,” she told him.
Link hadn’t started eating again since she’d touched him. He just looked at her, listening. Waiting.
She probably shouldn’t have touched him.
Still, Zelda went on, “So, from now on, let’s work together to make sure it doesn’t come to that. Deal?”
Link gave her another nod, then stuffed the rest of the third burrito in his mouth.
Well, at least he was easy to work with. And he appeared to very much appreciate her peace offering. She had to give him credit for that much.
And he smelled nice. For a boy, that is.

9 Fandom Peeps to Get to Know Better:
Tagged by @measured-words (I'd make a snarky joke but I am not good at the funny ha has.)
3 ships I like: If I like it I will find a ship. There are so. Many. Ships. I'm basically a fandom port. Big ones are Zelink, Weightworth (because someone in my vicinity is playing Ace Attorney and it makes me rabid, basically. Hmmm... A lot of One Piece stuff has been popping up so I'll say ZoLu too. (My Batman ships are a mess. No regrets.)
First ship ever: Y'all can't judge me but it was 1x2 (Heero x Duo) way back when Gundam Wing was on Toonami. It was the first time I ever got exposed to fanfiction and the brain rot has never left me.
Last song I heard: Just One Yesterday by Fall Out Boy. On repeat because it's got characters attached and they don't fuck off. Ever.
Favorite childhood book: I was a Berenstain Bears kid for a good bit. And then I read Into the Land of the Unicorns by Bruce Coville. I think I consumed just about everything he'd written at the time. Also Animorphs.
Currently reading: it's just a whole lot of fanfiction all the way down. Oh! I suppose you could count Are You My Mother by P. D. Eastman to my kids.
Currently watching: Dungeon Meshi. And Mashle. Look I have no taste, I just like bright colors.
Currently consuming: Last thing I had was tea, but I'm about to consume the peach cobbler pancake from yesterday.
Currently craving: Latte and scone from Specific Coffee Shop and the pizza Number One made last week. It was SO. GOOD.
Tagging: hmmm... @yadelah @vesselwiththepestle @acommonbibliophile if y'all want to!

now im thinking about skyward sword 😦 i need to replay it but. im not going to do this justice at all but i feel like explaining the whole plot, roughly. this is what the internet is for. sksw spoilers for literally the whole game
imagine you’re like. idk how old sksw!zelink are. but imagine youre a say, 18-24 year old boy, and you’re in love with this girl and she likes you too, and both of you are living on a sky island of the goddess’ chosen survivors of the apocalypse, and everything’s great except for this one guy who also likes your girl but it’s ok because she’s cooler than both of you combined and he’s got no chance, but you’re thinking that you’re the only people in the whole world that arent getting actively nuclear winter’d on the surface - like, the goddess sorted out demise on her own, but it’s probably messed up down there still, right? because she cleared out the people so she could go ham and goddesses and gods are pretty damn powerful. and 2 of them beat the absolute shit out of each other. but then the girl you like gets pulled out of the sky by an evil tornado and through the cloud barrier which now has a hole in it, which has NEVER HAPPENED and you think is probably a bad sign, and then you wake up from a nightmare and hatsune miku with short hair and a blanket for arms is there. and she brings you to a sword, and then reveals she is the sword, and she’s like “oh yeah you can go down to the surface, it’s fine, you have to anyway to beat demise” and you’re like “man i just want my girl back :(“ and fi’s (miku’s name is fi) like “well, to do that you have to kill god. and also make me way more powerful too. in the opposite order of what i said this in. sorry.” so you’re like. finneeeeeee. and then leave behind everything you know and go to the supposed nuclear wasteland below but it is actually Fine?? it’s nice actually! there’s little guys !! but there’s also bees (bad). and when you finally do catch up to zelda she’s got a girlfriend and she’s mad at you for leading this gayass evil dude you picked up along the way to her and yells at you for being too late to protect zelda and then jumps through a fucking. time portal. to the ancient past. with your girlfriend. what. and then it BREAKS BEHIND THEM?? but it’s ok! the old lady you met when you first got down here has one of those too! also remember that guy that likes your girl? turns out he fucking Jumped Off The Island to find her so you’re stuck with him now, but it’s ok, he’s chill as fuck actually. so you do all the things and you upgrade the sword and you go to the distant past and once again, you’re too late. also, your girlfriend is actually the goddess. she has to be sealed away in a crystal in the past to keep the imprisoned amongus you keep fighting (different guy to the gayass dude), well, imprisoned, but it obviously doesnt work that well, because you have to keep fighting it. and then a bunch of time shenanigans happen and she’s still your zelda, and she’s free of the crystal and gayass ghirahim is back and stealing her. uh oh. she’s in the ancient past again. with ghirahim. thats not good. he’s doing a magic thing - what is that call the exorcist. oh fuck he just summoned that demise guy with your girlfriend. yeah the god you have to kill. yah it’s time you gotta do it right now. oh and btw ghirahim is a sword like your buddy fi who, btw, has become more than just a sword, but your friend. and vocalist when you do the magic harp stuff. anyway you go and fight god and it’s in a big salt flat that’s reflecting the sky and it’s the hardest fight i’ve ever done because i did it with the motion controls on my joycons. and then you stab god with your buddy fi, and demise, in his final moments, the guy who has known you for all of 10 minutes (more like 2 hours if we accurately go with how long the fight took), is so pissed off that this kid killed him that he curses the spirit of the hero and the descendants of the goddess to be doomed to fight an incarnation of his hatred Forever. and ever. and ever. because you pissed him off real bad.
anyway that’s over, fi the sword is still stabbed into something, and she cant move or demise will be released again, so goodbye to your bestie the robot sword and OH FUCK SHE’S PROPERLY GOT EMOTIONS NOW. JUST IN TIME TO LEAVE YOU FOREVER. fuck. fuck. weeping crying sobbing wailing 10 hours remix. but hey zelda’s ok, and - what . what the hell is that. is that. oh the sky islands are descending that’s. ohhhh the Pit is perfectly shaped to the bottom of the main sky island. so now demise is sealed by a cool magic sword friend and a whole ass island. and everything’s ok. youre living on the surface now. you’re going to start the kingdom of hyrule (side eyes totk. or are you. fuck you zelda timeline).
anyway since sksw was only 3 mainline games ago fi hasnt appeared in any of the other canon games. she’s had her leitmotif and chimes appear in botw and totk but that’s it. she’s still in there, just weak and quiet and now theres more timeline shenanigans and i hate the timeline. i could make a longer post than this about just the timeline tbh. it splits into 3. it rejoins. it splits into 2 again. and then it circles back in on itself. or it could do the other thing where it splits into 2, then it splits into 3 in one branch and 2 in the other. i dont know. i just want fi back man.

since everyone’s asking about sword of fate lately, do u have any postgame(?) zelink thoughts/ideas
YES. ok for those of you who are new or dont like scrolling through my blog for the context of some random au the zelink relationship pregame/in-game basically goes: vaguely antagonistic > reluctant (on link's part) friends > very close friends > magical destiny bullshit. link has some internal shit to work out before he really gets close to zelda but it all kind of resolves itself due to ingame events.
anyway by the end of the game we have a situation where zelda is still totally blaming herself for everything that happened to link and his family. she now understands that she and link are a part of a cycle of reincarnation, and because of that she's no longer sure if her pursuit of a friendship with link even when he was standoffish was actually out of a desire for companionship or if it was the goddess's spirit pushing her closer to someone she knew could play the role of hero. shes fucked up about it. shes scared to be close to him after, in her eyes, ruining his life. but she still WANTS to be. she really does love link, but those feelings are so caught up in everything else and she is so SCARED of herself that she has a really hard time confronting those feelings.
Link, on the other hand, knows exactly how he feels about zelda. he knows that he loves her--he has spent a good portion of his time now chasing after her and attempting to convince her of that. He's at a point now where he just wants to push all the destiny bullshit to one side and go back to the way they used to be, but he also knows realistically that things have changed. he does his best to help get things back to normal for them both, as normal as they can be now.
he keeps his job as a palace stablehand. it's better money than he ever made in lurelin. (he was not a very good fisherman. he tried very hard tho.) zelda doesn't visit him anymore. there's no dodging of tutors and hiding in haystacks trying to stifle laughter. He visits her instead, and over time it gets easier. the magical destiny bullshit fades from their minds and they are suddenly no more than best friends again, with a bit of intense shared history tacked on. there's so much between them that goes unspoken. i honestly dont even think they ever officially start dating. people are just kind of like oh yeah zelda and the fuckin stable boy are in love. it's so obvious there's no point in making an official statement about it or anything. they're just a unit, never one without the other.

And now without further ado... The first treat (aka, the “freebie”).
Starting Fires
Disclaimer: I don't own any of the characters from the Inuyasha universe.
"Inuyasha, stop," Kagome giggled, trying to wriggle out of his hold as he pressed wet kisses up her neck. "I don't want to burn your bacon…"
"It's just bacon," he reasoned, his hands sliding up under her shirt. Or should he say his shirt? Fuck...there wasn't a better sight in the world than his best friend...his best girl...Kagome...Wearing his shirt in their kitchen in their house. Now that he had her again, he weren't never letting go of her. "I don't mind eating something else for breakfast."
"You will when your stomach is rumbling later," she blushed, grabbing his hands and pulling them down, his fingers grazing over the lace fabric of her panties. "Behave yourself and go grab a cup of coffee."
"I'd rather grab your—"
"—Coffee!"
Tumblr media
She reprimanded, flipping the bacon in the pan. He placed a gentle nip to the side of her neck before moving away from her, a disappointed pout on his lips.
"Fine. But let it be known that I'm doing it under protest," he grumbled, moving to his cabinet to pull out a mug.
"Your protest has been duly noted, Sir," she teased, turning away from the stove to pick up her own cup of coffee. She brought it to her lips, sipping from it as she watched Inuyasha pour himself some. Their life together felt so surreal still. It felt strange to wake up in their house and cook them breakfast.
But it was a good kind of surreal.
The kind where she found herself pinching her arm to make sure it wasn't all some crazy dream. This was their life. And...she loved it.
"Mmm," he moaned, taking a sip from his cup. "As good as ever, Kags," he grinned toothily, and she risked entering his personal space to press another kiss to his lips.
"Glad you like it," she replied, running away from him again when he moved to squeeze her ass. She removed their bacon and eggs from the pan as a text message chimed on both of their phones, and Inuyasha raised a brow in curiosity. She watched him slide his thumb across the screen, before muttering out a low "Huh" as he read the text.
"What is it?" she asked, picking up their plates and placing them onto the island.
"See for yourself," he shrugged, placing the phone down next to her plate. "It's from Sango."
That already piqued her curiosity. Kagome picked up the phone, leaning over the countertop as she read it.
"Hey Guys!" She began aloud. "Miroku and I decided to throw a Halloween party this year. We know it's a bit last minute, but we were hoping you guys could come since you aren't heading back out to California like you thought. Let us know if you can make it! Trying to plan in terms of food. Love you!"
"Love you too," he grinned, and she couldn't stop the shy smile even if she wanted to. She didn't think she would ever get tired of hearing that again from him. The words were like a balm to her soul.
"What do you think?" Kagome asked, handing him his phone back as he began digging his fork into his eggs.
"Up to you," he shrugged. He really didn't care either way. He was just glad he didn't have to go out to California with her. Though, to tell the truth, he wouldn't have minded. They could have had a night in...just the two of them...And he was always a fan of nights in with her. But..."We can go. I know you wanna…"
It was true too. He had seen the way her eyes lit up when she was reading that message. The way she was practically bouncing on the balls of her feet. Kagome didn't want to spend the night in. She wanted to spend her first Halloween back in Montana at a party with old friends.
"But...You...Don't?"
He shrugged.
"Don't matter either way. I'm fine going. I'm fine staying home and fucking ya seven ways from Sunday."
"Yash!"
"What! It's tha truth," he replied with a smirk. "And you can't tell me ya don't like the sound of it," he continued, running his tongue over his fangs. The cute little blush he pulled from her was worth it.
"Well...How about a compromise?"
He paused, lifting his brow in curiosity.
"Go on…"
"What if we went to the party...Just for an hour or two...and then afterward we can come home and have sex? Oh! We can even wear couple's costumes again!"
The phrase couples costume made his butt clench so tight he could probably twist off a beer cap with his cheeks.
"I'll agree to go to the party...but not the couple's costume."
"But Yash," she whined, coming around the island to take his hands. "That's part of the fun…"
"No."
"Please?"
"No."
"I'll wear something slutty?"
"N—" He began, ready to tell her no again when his brain processed her offer. "Keep talking."
"I'll wear something slutty and sexy?"
"...Uh-huh...And what else?"
"...And you get to take it off of me?"
He almost said yes...but he was a greedy fucker. He was probably gonna take it off of her even if she hadn't offered that.
"Do I get to do more than that?"
"You mean other than wear a matching outfit?"
"I do."
"Well," she began, tilting her head to the side and pursing her lips in thought. "I'm assuming that sex is a given…"
"But you can say it anyway, and make it interesting," he shrugged. If he was going to get roped into this...because he was going to say yes, because he loved her...then he wanted to squeeze as much as he could out of this.
"Ok...If you do it, sex is on the table...and I'll also add you picking the place and position," she decided, causing his eyes to light up.
Place and position huh?
"Well...In that case Darling, you've got yourself a deal!"
Her childlike squeal and the way she giddily clapped her hands, bouncing up and down on the balls of her feet, made him feel like he made the right decision.
"Now let's talk costumes…"
He groaned, shaking his head and digging his fork into the eggs on his plate.
Then again...Maybe not…
He let her prattle on for a while, running different ideas past him...But he knew that it ultimately wouldn't matter. He was going to give in to whatever she wanted. If she wanted him to go as a hot dog, and she was going to be a bottle of mustard? That was what was going to happen. Wasn't sure how she could make it sexy...but sure. Her call. Prince and Princess? No fighting it. Batman and Catwoman…
It had piqued his interest, but she almost instantly changed her mind. The cowl would be uncomfortable for his ears.
So, she decided on a fireman and a dalmatian. He looked over at her phone when she held up a picture of the costume she had found for him and sighed.
"That's what you want?"
It didn't look too bad. And it looked like he could maybe get away with just wearing the pants. He was going to have to be sneaky about it though...He could do just a t-shirt and those pants.
"Please?" she beseeched, batting her long lashes at him. "It will be so cute! And you'll look so good!"
He tilted his head to the side, and she chewed the inside of his lip as she watched him roll her suggestion around in his head. She really liked the fireman outfit. She thought it would be fun! And he would look good in it too...She could already picture him slowly taking off the jacket to reveal his bare torso...the suspenders holding up his pants hanging limply at the sides as he slowly peeled himself out of—
"—What are you thinking about Kagome?"
She looked up at his face and saw him looking at her, a smirk stretching his lips as he limply held the phone, leaning down across the island.
"N-nothing," she blushed, swiping out to grab the phone from him, but he pulled it away from her at the last second.
"Nu-uh. I can smell it when you're lying…and I can smell it when you're—"
"—NOTHING!"
She insisted, grabbing the phone from him this time, and his grin turned predatory.
"Ain't nothing, or you wouldn't be smelling like that," he countered cheekily before his gaze began to darken. "Ya know...You don't have to keep that bottled up…"
"Inuyasha," she warned as he straightened, running his carefully filed and declawed fingers along the island countertop as he slowly came around to her side.
He was ignoring her, however.
"Kagome," he replied, closing in on her in just a few short strides. "Were you thinking about me in that fireman outfit?"
Sometimes she swore he could read her mind.
"N-no…"
"Liar," he purred, placing his hands onto the granite top on either side of her hips. He had effectively trapped her...and he was looking at her like prey.
It made her swallow because her mouth was suddenly dry. And made her lower abdomen heat. The intensity and desire in his gaze...the slight glint of fang in the morning light…
Fucking hell...She wanted to be his prey. Wanted to be captured and eaten and...eaten…
He inhaled deeply, his eyes rolling to the back of his head as he lowly moaned, "Fuck Kags…"
"W-what," she swallowed, and his smirk widened into a fangy grin before his lips crashed into hers.

Being honest, I don't like Age of Calamity's Zelink
Tumblr media
I don't know, coming from how great their relationship was developed in Botw and how it helped with both Zelda's and Link's development, AoC Zelink just feels cheap and flat.
Like, yeah, AoC fed us shippers with much more content than we could ever expect from Botw (and something inside me is telling me that also from Botw 2) but quantity doesn't automatically mean quality.
In general I'm not a big fan of the AoC's STORY (because I haven't played it because I'm kinda poor) mainly because I can't help but feel like it completely gets rid of everything that made Botw so different from the rest of the games in the franchise (only talking about story) making everything much more generic despite being 3 hours of cutscenes (including the DLC) meanwhile BOTW takes more or less 40 minutes (also including DLC), this including the already mentioned couple.
Because let's compare it, in Botw they got from hating each other (or at least disliking each other) due to the reputation that was built upon them , to giving the chance to get to know and understand each other and their struggles, to finally find someone to trust and tell their deepest fears, to finally love each other so much to the point of being willing to die for said loved one (And this is Pre Calamity, don't even get me started with everything that happens after Link's awakening). Meanwhile in AoC they just met, Link TRIES to understand Zelda (since he just got the master sword and hasn't had to live with the threat his entire life) and keeps protecting her over and over again, and in the meantime Zelda finds him cute and technically awakens her powers because of him.
But they didn't really spend time alone to talk, most of the time (if not all the time) they were with Impa, Terrako or someone else, and the ones who gave support to Zelda were most of the time them, not Link. Terrako was in this timeline Zelda's biggest comfort because he was part of her past, and also kinda Impa because they've known each other for a long time, but there's nothing that brings Link and Zelda together.
And at first I didn't mind since I thought maybe in this universe their relationship wasn't meant to be romantic but with the DLC there's no doubt they wanted us to ship them since they won't stop throwing "romantic" scenes at our faces but it seems like they thought we liked this couple for the "princess and knight" trope (which in part is true) but there's a lot more that makes this couple different.
In Botw they are two people forced from a very young age to carry the world on their own making them become "perfect", isolating them and forcing them to abandon everything they enjoy. But, despite having trouble in the beginning, they find each other and finally feel like they are allowed to become their true selves, something they can't do even with their closest ones like Urbosa or Mipha.
(And Mipha and Miphlink is a whole other interesting case to compare to their AoC counterpart but that's for another post)
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying AoC Zelink is outrageous, I'm just saying it's kind of mediocre.
Because while BOTW Zelink is the pure definition of the silent princess, of "endless love" for being able to surpass their differences, their difficult surroundings, their pasts, memory loss, a 100 years of separation, literal death, the fucking apocalypse and what could be consider Satan.
AoC Zelink is more... "Cute and intelligent girl 💅 with problems 😔 and a shitty father 😠 meets cute boy 😍 when the apocalypse is about to come 😰😭, the rest is history ~❤️✨"
(Ok not like that but you get my point)
Who knows, perhaps there are some details that could change my opinion if I actually played the game, but from screenshots that I've seen from the sidequests there's just "Link doing something nice for Zelda" (still some of them say that someone else asked him to do so) . And even if we cut Botw's diary entries, compare some memories to what could be considered their counterparts in AoC and tell me they are the same.
Link witnessing a fight between Zelda and her father....
Zelda in the springs...
Zelda crying after the Calamity awakens and Link comforting her....
Zelda awakening her powers for Link....
Do they honestly have the same impact for you?
Idk, if you prefer AoC's Zelink to BOTW it's ok, everyone is free to like whatever they want, but this personally isn't my cup of tea.
(And don't get me wrong, I don't entirely hate AoC's story there are some good things here and there but that's for another post)

Note
I recently read Shades of blue after you rwcommended it and Oh My God was it worth it. That was beautiful and amazing and do you have any other recommendations?
✨MISSIONS ACCOMPLISHED✨
AAAAAA I’m so glad you read it!!! Honestly I’ve been waiting for someone to ask me for recs for awhile because I have.........a few...
Miscellaneous ships here, not just Revalink but the first lot are
- Pinesong by @a-perplexing-puzzle D-Do I even need to explain myself more??? I talk about this fic every other day of the week..... it’s just great vibes....soft and fluffy and angsty just *chef’s kiss* two gay boys searching through their old memories to remember how gay they are
- Shades of Blue by @unapologetically-asexual OK I know original anon just said they read this but for you idiots that haven’t read it yet....uhhhh get on that. Nothing I could say would really advertise this fic better than this post
- somebody’s always looking (nothing’s quite as sweet) by @kouzaires One of my FAV Coffee shop AU’s for botw....so sof......so tender...........so warrmmmmm.............they characters are written so well.....just love it...a lot
- Broken Spirits by @legendoftoad It’s just AAAAAAAAAA??!!? My boys are hurting and the malice for half of it is frickin doing things to my boy and then of course you got your PTSD themes meddled in there and hnnnnnnnnnnhhhhhghgh my hurt/comfort itch is sufficiently scratched go read
- Linger On by ICanFlyHigher [idk if they have a tumblr] Ok I actually haven’t finished this fic yet but it’s been recommended time and time again so I’ve been reading this in my spare time I’m on like Chapter 12 or 13 I think but I can say with CERTAINTY that the writing is fantastic and tender moments are off the charts and my boys are so precious and also the Yiga are actually cool in this so that’s nice
- Learning Flight by homewardbound This is just *chefs kiss* *standing ovation* *throws confetti in the air* quality quality Revalink. Just a delicious chocolate cake of botw and Revalink. You got your mysterious Revali waking up 105 years later batter, and your angsty PTSD gay boys duo chocolate chips, and then you can chuck in some engaging sideplot elements as a few tall tiers, and then the cake is all whipped up with the wooden spoon of subtextual writing just mmmm delicious. and ALSO I betaed a thing that is gonna happen and let me tell you shit is gonna happen like VERY IMPORTANT SUPER COOL plot twists be happening so you better read it
- Conversations After The End Of The World by @bismuthllie Ok this one’s a oneshot but I always go back and read it because...idk it just strums my heart strings a lot...I’ve said Pinesong was my first big Revalink fic I’ce read, but this was like...my first, first piece of Revalink content I read ever so...yeah <3 ....and also the art for this comic is fantastic too even thought it gives me the emotions......hahaha ok Revali it’s time to stop being dead
- I See You Swimming In The Sky by @unavoidablekoishi OK OK I know my logic isn’t the best considering it’s the only Revali/Mipha fic I’ve read, but god dammit it’s the best Revpha fic I’ve ever read I still need to catch up cause I’m like 3 chapters behind but this fic CONVERTED me ok, miphvali went from a “huh yeah the art is nice I can kinda see it” to “THAT FISH IS SIMPING FOR THE BIRD 24/7 AND THEY DESERVE EACH OTHER″ This is some *claps* GOOD. SHIT. Ok? *slaps roof of fic* This bad boy can fit so much charming characterization and interaction (and also has made me scream both happily and not happily on several occasions)
- Guardian of The Wilds by @no-themes-just-memes in which I constantly miscall it “Guardian of the Wild” because I’m stupid This isn’t so much a ship fic but it’s so cool Link is a spirit, Urbosa and Zelda’s mom are a thing, Zelda is HERE and she is AMAZING like no spoilers but holy shit Zelda is here and slaying in more ways than one and riding Satori and hhnnnnhhhhhhhh it’s all about those ~plot twists~ and tone changes ya know? very very very nice...
- Firebird by @paellaplease Oh no, it’s Kip’s obligatory Firebird gush whoopsie poopsie who would have guessed surely not me. This is just my standard for Oc ship content now it’s so good I am gay for one fire girl Maiya is my spirit animal and I just wanna cup her in my hands softly even though I know she would probably burn me for it but it would totally be worth it. The writing is just superb and I am also gay for great imagery and action which this is chalk full of so go read it
Ok it’s actually 2am right now and I still need to finish a bunch of AP work so I’m just gonna speed run the rest of these recs
@echogekkos writes such cute and soft Miphlink fics that are on my top tier list like this one and oh crap this post made me realize Healing Touch updated crap there are so many things I need to read and catch up on anyways want more miphlink angst? BOOM read the inspiration for eternity by Merakkli and oh what’s that? You want deep lore that was custom made with lots of hot ocs in a fic that spans way beyond BOTW welp here’s Hyrule Bound a universe entirely created by @themisadventurescrew which is yet another fic series that I am behind on crap but oh shit @kittmoon has started a chapter fic called Jaded Seas recently so you should go read that but also all of their oneshots are great as well so you should follow them and did I mention that everyone I’ve tagged are people you should follow because yeah anyhow here’s a crackfic about Goron children that had me shaking out of either fear or confusion for a few days by @angsttronaut ok moving on @thatsnotzelda writes beautifully just take a look at this angsty Revalink thing and also bambambambam you’ve been ambushed by @hatenostorms @going-fancognito @ashrel @lizards-writing-blog so now go request some from them because I said so they’re great also uhhh @idiotic-canadian and @moonchildrenn [Pins_and_Patches on ao3] hate happiness but that’s ok because I get to be emotionally wrecked by their angst and whump hurray! wait fUCK I completely forgot to rec this earlier but my first Zelpha fic was this gorgeous Coffeeshop AU by @theseventhsage called Dreaming of Coffee and Love so go read that *flipping through entire history of ao3* let’s see let’s see... All of the Rito Chronicles by  sturms_sun_shattered is great, and this Teba/Harth one is also a fav and oh CRAP my zelink content is just everything by @fatefulfaerie because it’s just *throws colorful streamers in the air* pretty and I love their writing welp I’m about to collapse lets just end it off with the z’s like @zzariyo and @zeawesomebirdie on ao3  they are some pretty radical french fries if i do say so myself and and ok ok read this other Zelpha coffee au which is also by @kouzaires and this Modern au also by @unavoidablekoishi ok that’s all I can remember right now bye

Legend of Zelda Boys | All
Alright, favorite game of everyone:
Haru: Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass, there’s just a lot of water, he’s also the weird kid that really likes the water temples in Zelda games.
Rin: Majora’s Mask, the stories of mourning helped him a lot when he was in his own duel.
Makoto: I want to say Ocarina, but a lot of shit could scare him (looking at you Shadow Temple), so maybe Minish Cap and Four Sword Adventures
Sousuke: A Link to the Past HE’S A MAN OF CULTURE, OKAY?! And he probably likes the Oracle games too.
Nagisa: Link’s Awakening (Rin cries at the ending)
Rei: Twilight Princess IT’S SO BEAUTIFUL
Asahi: I see him getting fired up with the previous roasters of Hyrule Warriors.
Ikuya: Skyward Sword because the love story is adorable.
Hiyori: probably just does some minigames like Tingle’s games.
Momo: He gives me Link Between World Vibes to brag that the saved 2 worlds but wouldn’t actually do the Oracle games.
Nitori: Fucking Triforce Heroes, everyone is just what?!? I feel like someone showed them to him as a joke, but he really liked it.
Kisumi: Skyward Sword because he think it's the funniest.
Natsuya: Twilight Princess because he thinks it's the scariest and he likes the thrill.
Nao: Minish Cap, it's challenging and fun but lighthearted.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Okay, ever since the first Breath of the Wild trailer dropped, the squad is hyped, just AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH! They all waited for it to come out and they adored it.
Everyone can agree that Breath of the Wild is cool as fuck.
They made a race to finish it's main story and then to get all the shrines and stuff.
Everyone teasing Rin because he looks a lot like Sidon UwU
Makoto loves the side quests because the town is happier.
Haru is mad because their is no underwater gaming.
They cry at the dead champions.
They argue about the ending because they wanted a happier ending like in Minish Cap or Ocarina of Time where everything is fixed at the end.
Haru probably had a crush on Mipha/Sidon (whatever suits your view of him, could be both for all I care), like FISH WAIFU?! Yes.
Rin and Makoto have a fucking crush on Urbosa, fite me. Giant powerful god tier woman got them doing oogly eyes.
Rei and Nagisa fighting over Zelink or Miphlink, Rei, sorry we all love Mipha but Zelink for the win.
All trailers since make them lose their minds. The DLC, Age of Calamity and the so awaited sequel. Specially the sequel.
Hyrule Warrios: Age of Calamity
Everyone is excited to see the original invasion but also afraid to see the champions die.
Nagisa is the kind of person who calls Revali “Ravioli.”
They all agree Daruk is best boy and Mipha is baby.
They buy the game and they’re already screaming on the intro.
They’re all taking turns in pairs, either at the chance of the level or at a death.
Alright, your character roaster
Link: everyone, everyone is good with Link
Impa: Nitori is actually very good with her, and they have the same personality.
Zelda: Rei and Nao.
Mipha: Haru, he called dibs, so what you gonna do.
Daruk: Makoto, because big and kind? Of course he likes the Goron. Sousuke is A+ too, absolute tank.
Revali: Rei, Rin and Asahi
Urbosa: Nagisa
Hestu: Momo and Hiyori
Sidon: Haru and Rin fight over him.
Yunobo: Momo and Ikuya
Teba: Natsuya, also everyone finds hilarious how he gets upset about Revali.
Riju: Makoto really likes her because she brought a pet, but Nao uses her best.
Master Kohga: Probably Nagisa as a joke. It also turns big like in the DLC.
King Rhoam: Nitori, I feel like he wants to carry a big sword 7w7.
Great Fairies: Nagisa because he think it’s hilarious, everyone is crying tears of laughter every time they are on screen.
Monk Maz Koshia: Everyone kind of avoids him because they’re not over the DLC, but Seijuro plays it because he loves scarring everyone.
Terrak: Nitori and Makoto
Calamity Ganon: Makoto terrifies everyone by being fucking OP player with the main villain like WHAT?!
They all love Mipha and Daruk, they’re babies.
Ravioli causes mixed opinions but there’s a lot of laughter.
Urbosa has all the room blushing because she’s so cool and pretty.
Hetsu is a silly character they all like
Makoto fired up to help him, “YEAH, I’LL HELP YOU!”.
Encore of confused screaming over the wizard guy like at the trailers.
EXCITED SCREAMING WHEN LINK UNLEASHES THE MASTER SWORD
Battling in the Divine Beasts makes everyone lose their mind
THEY ALL JUST SCREECH
Learning they already knew when Ganon was arriving got them all screaming.
When the Champions are about to die there’s chaos, Rin is crying a river. Everyone is hysterical wanting to know if they can still do something.
Rei and Haru remind them all that they knew it was coming.
OOOH OHOHOHO BUT when you get to have the time crossover to save the champions everyone goes mad.
There’s LOUD screaming everywhere.
There’s a lot of tears of joy.
A lot of question of the timeline’s fate but who the fuck cares we’re saving the babies.
Sidon and Mipha reunited makes everyone emotional 🥺.
He’s so happy to see her… 💖.
There’s an actual group hug when they manage to save the four Champions, tears, and everything. Absolute love.
Rei actually very confused about the timeline split this could cause but…
Shut up Rei they’re all safe, and he doesn’t argue because he actually got too emotionally invested with the character.
Everyone laughing at Teba’s disappointment with Revali’s personality.
The Blood Mood at the final battle has everyone screaming.
They replay the final battles a million times before going to the next one so everyone gets a turn because it’s fucking epic!
As soon as they win, they just fall down almost fainting.
It’s a pure ecstasy trip.
F in the chat for Terrak, they’re all sad, a lot of tears.
DID THEY KILL ZELDA’S PET?!?
“ZELDA KICK THEIR ASSES! AVENGE TERRAK!”
They all go insane with the Calamity Ganon redesign
“WAIT BUT THEN WHAT ARE WE BATTLING IN BREATH OF THE WILD THEN?!”
“DID LINK JUST PARRY A FUCKING BUILDING?!”
“TERRAK IS ALIVE!!!” Everyone is ecstatic until they realize where that scene is going…
Sousuke, Nao and Haru have to console everyone because they’re all crying.
Not even Makoto could help himself.
AVENGE TERRAK encore
Saying goodbye to the future champions is kinda bittersweet.
Sidon: *gets teary*
Everyone: “look, that’s Rin”
Rin’s too busy crying to argue.
But now they’re all alive, this is canon fuck you BOTW
Breath of the Wild's Sequel Trailer
youtube
Ever since the first trailer NINTENDO GIVE US THE SEQUEL ALREADY, ALL THE NEW MECHANISH
GANONDORF?!?!?
Ikuya and Kisumi losing their mind because SKYLOFT?!?!?
While everyone is losing their minds over the new mechanics (like Rin with the flamethrower) Haru is praying for underwater gameplay.
Makoto and Nitori probably got scared half of the trailers but are also very excited. Still hug them.
My boys are in tears. All of them.
And just like their last movie, it'll all go down in 2022 😭

How many fandoms have you written for, and what are they?
uh linked universe, my hero, and percy jackson
Top five fics by kudos:
problems of the sane (bnha)

devil talkin on both shoulders (lu)
nothing i do (lu)
chuchu jelly (lu)
Do you respond to comments?
yes! i love interacting with y'all <3
What's the fic with the angstiest ending you've ever written?
like i said before, i do a lot of bittersweet endings but i'm not sure any of them fall entirely under angsty? closest might be that's all it is
Do you write crossovers?
i mean, lu is a crossover in itself XD but yes, i have in the past
Have you ever gotten hate on a fic?
nope! you guys have been nothing but lovely <3
Do you write smut?
nope again
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
yes, actually. i got them to take it down after i confronted them, tho
Have you ever had a fic translated?
i think one is in the process? i got an ask about it anyway
What’s your all-time favourite ship?
hmmm i'm not really a shipper but midlink and sksw!zelink are sweet
What’s a WIP that you want to finish, but don’t think you ever will?
my ghost!sky au... i got distracted but maybe in the future i'll get back into it XD
What are your writing strengths?
i've been told i'm good at introspective writing & character studies! i think i'm pretty good at descriptions, too
What are your writing weaknesses?
i'm not very good at jumping straight into writing, esp when it comes to characters. i have to Research just about everything even if it will never see light in the actual piece lmao. i'm also a terrible perfectionist
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fics?
i've done it in the past for sign language, and it was pretty chill. i've studied asl & deaf culture for close to three years so i feel pretty confident in portraying it (even if i get nervous signing myself XD)
What was the first fandom you ever wrote for?
that would be pjo back on ffn! ah man good memories
What’s your favorite fic you’ve written so far?
aaaa i can't decide fuck XD um chuchu jelly, hopeless wanderer, and devil talkin on both shoulders are dear to my heart. and ofc obsidian and gold got me in a chokehold <3
@somer-writes @needfantasticstories @wanderlustmagician @marcusdoodlesalot get over here
Ao3 tag game!
THANKS @ragecndybars FOR THE TAG I APPRECIATE IT
*cracks knuckles* lets do this
How many works do you have on AO3?
24 works! I would have never expected to have that many 5 years ago, hahaha
What's your total AO3 word count?
186,291! oh wow, almost 200k!! (unsurprisingly PT minato takes up over a third of that LMAO)
How many fandoms have you written for, and what are they?
10 fandoms! I'm counting Persona 3, 4, and 5 and separate, but I'm grouping all the Zelda fandoms together since it's all Linked Universe fic.
Here's the breakdown!
The Legend of Zelda & Related Fandoms (6)
Persona 5 (5)
Persona 3 (5)
SPY x FAMILY (Anime) (3)
Wizard101 (Video Game) (3)
SPY x FAMILY (Manga) (3)
Runescape (Video Games) (3)
Pirate101 (Video Game) (3)
Persona 4 (2)
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom (2)
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood & Manga (1)
Star Wars - All Media Types (1)
The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Warriors (1)
Top five fics by kudos:
The Ghost of Mementos/Stygian Ringlet (Persona3/5) - to the surprise of absolutely no one, since this is currently my longest fic. I'm very happy with Stygian Ringlet being the top because I love my boys :)
True Crime Special on the Midnight Channel (Persona 4/5) - my Ren has a TV Dungeon fic! also very proud of the dungeon concept for this one, I really need to finish the last two chapters
Dark Clouds on the Horizon (Linked Universe/TOTK) - I feel like this one got a lot of momentum partially because it was directly in the wake of TOTK's release, but I'm happy with how it turned out :)
Strangers Are Just Friends You Haven't Met (Persona 3/SPY x FAMILY) - this was a collab series with mewrose and a few others in the marigolds discord! we were throwing ideas at the wall to see what stuck and I really had a lot of fun with Shinjiro-related prompts, because I LOVE him and hitting him with the isekai baseball bat into a universe with Anya brings me great joy
Salt Tears and Raindrops (Linked Universe/TOTK) - directly related to Dark Clouds, and I'm glad people enjoyed good ol' fashioned angst >:) (I do need to post more of my wips, I do have a couple more roleswap AU wips that I want to post)
Do you respond to comments?
Yes! I almost always do because I really appreciate them and its my way of saying thanks for the comment! If I don't comment it's because I lost track of it or because I can't think of a response.
What's the fic with the angstiest ending you've ever written?
Probably Salt Tears and Raindrops. I was in a Mood and decided to go for the tried-and-true method of putting fictional characters I like through the emotional wringer. That's how I got the rough draft for this fic :)
Do you write crossovers?
*looks at my persona fics and recent LU fics*
...I think it's safe to say most of my fics these days fall under crossovers lmao
Have you ever gotten hate on a fic?
I wouldn't say I have? One or two comments that came off as rude, but no actual hate, thankfully. If I did, I forgot about it. I've been blessed by wonderfully nice readers <3
Do you write smut?
Nope. I don't read it, so I wouldn't know how to write it anyway.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of? I sure hope not.
I have seen a couple short fics slightly imitate Ghost of Mementos though, which I thought was really sweet that they liked it enough to inspire their own writing.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
Nope, but I'd definitely be open to it!
What’s your all-time favorite ship?
RYOMINA. Hands down. I love them so much, I am so mentally unwell about these two
What’s a WIP that you want to finish, but don’t think you ever will?
My two Runescape fics, Whispers in the Temple and Welcome to the Jungle. I absolutely loved going hogwild with rewriting old quests in Runescape, but I psyched myself out of Welcome to the Jungle because I got overly anxious about accidentally doing bad representation.
(in hindsight, it probably wouldn't have been as big a deal as I thought; it's hard to make it worse considering how bad Legend's Quest was with the british-african stereotypes. that quest DID NOT age well.)
I also want to finish Snake in the Grass; that was my first attempt at a genuine mystery plot and I really liked playing with Warriors in that fic in the context of the gang trying to figure out who the heck is trying to murder him.
What are your writing strengths?
I feel like I'm pretty good at dialogue! I try to make sure it matches the character's speech patterns and personality. Really well-written dialogue can tell you who's speaking without actually telling who it is. (For example, the way I write them: Minato speaks as few words as possible and has very little filter with his observations when he does share them, and Shinjiro is pretty rough around the edges, with shortened words and the occasional swear. Warriors is good with words and wit, but he has a certain military-esque directness and doesn't dance around the topic.)
I do try hard to keep the plot clear and understandable over everything else, so probably that as well.
Also, now that I think about it, maybe fight sequences? I don't do them much, but I do enjoy the challenge of making a clear sequence of what happens in a fight and trying to make it understandable. Fight sequences are easy to skip or gloss over, but I think of them like their own miniature plot. What happens? What surprises are there? What are their movesets? How do they get the upper hand? (and of course, what looks cool as fuck)
What are your writing weaknesses?
Time management. I tend to over-proofread since I beta my own work, and often I'll go back to tweak stuff if I had additional thoughts to add to it, or extra insight. Lately, it takes longer to write chapters than I'd like.
Also, dialogue-heavy scenes often get very chaotic in my WIPs because of the way I rough out fics. I'll throw together a bunch of dialogue bits I think would be cool to include, and sometimes they'll clash or get really messy, especially if there's lots of characters (looking at the latest two chapters of Stygian Ringlet)
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fics?
I think it's cool! It adds flavor to fics. If it's more than one short phrase though, or if it's story important, then I do prefer that there is a translation in the author's notes. I haven't done any non-English dialogue in fics, save for one memorable adventure into trying to figure out how Latin grammar structure works for a character that didn't speak English.
What was the first fandom you ever wrote for?
Wizard101 and Pirate101. I was obsessed with those two for YEARS. I really, really liked pirate stories in high school, and having a cast of crewmates that accompany you throughout the game really inspired me to write my first fic featuring my OC. (I was also into One Piece at the time, but I never wrote for it.)
What’s your favorite fic you’ve written so far?
Stygian Ringlet. It's really dear to my heart. I have poured so much love and effort into that fic, and the reception on it has completely blown me away.
THANKS FOR THE TAG!! Uhhhmmm for tags I'm going to go with @skyward-floored, @catreginae and @breannasfluff (but only if you want to!! no obligation of course)
and of course any other writers that want to do it as well!! go forth

WHEN THE WAR IS OVER AND I AM LYING AMONGST ANGELS, WAITING FOR YOU TO FIND ME: a spoiler-filled addendum
because i buttfucked the timeline harder than nintendo and That’s Mildly Concerning ao3 link
q: what the fuck is this a: this fic is the answer to the question, ‘how can i reconcile the events of breath of the wild and age of calamity into a coherent narrative?’.
q: what the fuck happened a: age of calamity was a dream zelda had while partying in ganon’s apartment for a hundred years.
q: [you point a nerf gun at my head and smash my knees in with a hammer concurrently] what the Fuck happened a: link has a line near the end of chapter one which goes something like ‘my mother used to say dreams are the memories of people from another world’. this is the core concept of the story. while age of calamity is a dream to botw zelda, who saw it unfold over the course of a hundred year nap, it’s also real. in my incredibly fucked up version of things, it happened- just not in the same universe as botw. when botw zelda settled in to drink cheap beer with ganon for a hundred years, her consciousness drifted across time and space to the age of calamity timeline, where she proceeded to live out someone else’s life for a few months. are the other characters in aoc aware of this? link is. at the end of chapter two, when he pleads with zelda to ‘rebuild the old world with [him]’, he falls out of character. he betrays the real purpose of this timeline and his place in it, which is to salvage what botw could not.
q: what the fuck is up with the space-time continuum thing a: inspired by the multiverse theory (note that i know nothing about multiverse theory apart from the fact that there are multiple verses), i decided it would be fun if i added a third dimension to the botw/aoc pair. the inhabitants of this third universe are aware of the existence of multiple worlds. they are also aware of the prophecy of calamity ganon’s return, but for the purpose of this essay it does not matter if calamity ganon will rise in their world. the primary concern of zelda in this third dimension is whether she can engineer a universe where link does not die. as she says in chapter two, there are a thousand possible outcomes, but only two fulfill her requirement: the outcomes that constitute botw and aoc. we can assume she went to enormous lengths to uncover these universes, as described by impa, who says with some disbelief ‘you destroyed the space-time continuum for a boy?’. zelda destroys the space-time continuum. she moves through timeline after timeline, tweaking dialogue and moving the hour-hand ever backwards, and at the end of it all, for all her suffering, what does she actually achieve?
q: okay so what the fuck is up with the scene where link kisses zelda and is like i had a dream where i died and then nothing happens a: first of all, you’ll find this scene near the end of chapter two if you’d like to take a second look at it. as for who exactly this zelda and this link are, it’s unclear. maybe after botw zelda woke up, the original aoc zelda and aoc link lived happily after the war. maybe the zelda in the third dimension missed a positive outcome in her thousand-bullet-pointed list. maybe this, too, is a dream someone had, while lying in a field of flowers somewhere. your call.
q: rabbit???????? a: the story about the rabbit is a framing device. first introduced at the end of chapter one when link tells zelda a story on the bridge at night, it eventually comes to parallel botw zelda’s experiences, but in reverse. the rabbit is happy in her reality. she has a dream where everyone she loves is gone, becomes immersed in it, and is eventually saved by the voice of some-god-or-another. zelda is not particularly happy in her reality (botw). she has a dream where everyone she loves survives, becomes immersed in it, and is pulled out of the dream by some-god-or-another. the important thing to note here is the second rule the rabbit lays out in the story, which is that you, as the dreamer, can’t tell anyone that you’re dreaming. self-awareness is a sin in these lands, but the greater and far worse sin is to attempt to share that self-awareness with someone else. this is why link is so adamant that zelda not finish speaking at the end of chapter two, when ganon is defeated and they are standing on the balcony. he wants her to stay. he’s in love with her. he doesn’t want her dream to end because in a way her dream is his dream too; they want the same things (peace, living champions and family, each other). unfortunately for him, zelda has to leave the aoc world behind, because even a hundred year nap has to end, and so she says what she has to say, she says it feels like she’s dreaming, and she wakes up.
q: please explain, in plain english, whatever the hell goes down in chapter 2. a: chapter one is a relatively straightforward retelling of the first four story chapters in hwaoc. chapter three returns the reader directly to the botw timeline, where link shoots a glowing arrow at ganon’s ass, killing him instantly. chapter two is the glorious fuck that lies in between. in short, it splices the events of aoc and botw together with overlays and meta commentary from the third universe mentioned above, where zelda is trying to engineer a happy ending, and the ambiguous fourth one where link is the one who sees the dream. i made use of several batshit devices here, but the most prominent one is, i hope, the encore. the [ENCORE] is initially used to signal that a scene will be set in the botw timeline. it makes its first appearance before botw zelda and botw link’s journey down from mount lanayru, which, as we know, does not take place in aoc. this is played straight up until the halfway mark or so, at which point i swap out ENCORE for encore and finally ****** (still says encore though). this distinction is lost altogether once impa begins dragging link’s body up to the great plateau. up until now, ENCORE and [these brackets] have been used to distinguish the botw timeline from the aoc one, which is not an encore and is not in [these brackets]. the next segment, concerning the battle on the great plateau, flips them. now impa and co’s funeral procession is ‘real’ and the charge zelda leads to the temple of time is ‘fake’. i wonder why.
q: ‘the lights are BLUE or YELLOW or PINK’. explain. a: what’s a play? a pretense. what does it take to pretend? actors. what is zelda doing? dreaming.
q: fourth wall breaks. explain. a: the interview segments are an homage to the seven thousand articles about age of calamity i read before playing age of calamity because this game was effectively my reason to live for the months of october and november. sooga talks about google maps because he’s dead (possibly dlc?) and dead people have the right to say fuck-all. every device in this story was implemented for a vaguely coherent reason. and then i fucked it up for fun.
q: what is the state of zelda and link’s relationship? a: in the botw timeline i imagine they’re involved with each other even before calamity strikes. in the aoc timeline i imagine they’re working their way towards something, but several important trigger events in botw don’t take place in the aoc timeline and the stakes overall feel significantly lower, so i’d hesitate to say their relationship develops to the same degree it does in the botw timeline. this is all personal conjecture, so you’re free to disagree.
q: why does the last line sound like a hannibal lecter line? a: [dab] god’s plan
q: why does zelda say there are a thousand possible outcomes, and only one where link lived in chapter 3? a: the first rule of time travel: don’t.
this is everything i can think of off the top of my head that might have confused people, but i did unfortunately write this thing so if there’s something else that made you go ‘the fuck?’ please don’t hesitate to drop me an ask or a line in the replies, i’d be happy to help. also, if it isn’t clear as day, i have a lot of fucking feelings about both of these games, so if you want to talk lore, theories, or just miscellaneous zelink fuckery, hit me up. i’ll go sleep now. take care everyone.

5, 12, 17, 45 for the asks! Don’t feel pressured to answer them all, but have fun my friend 😎🕺🏼
thank you so much for the ask, @wanderingnightingale! sorry I kinda wrote an essay for these responses, I just have so much to freaking say dkgfsjhsdljghj
5) if you had to choose a favorite out of all of your multi chaptered stories, which would it be and why?
oooooh this is tough. I really like "a memory of younger days" because it helps me establish link as a person and focus mainly on him in the 'Before' era, whereas in "aftermath" the main focus is zelink as a dynamic and zelda's witchy woo in the 'After'. link, while an obviously central character and driving force in "aftermath", isn't exactly the "main" character despite being the prominent point of view. in the pre-calamity fic, im trying to give him all of the spotlight I can.
"that parting need not last forever (it's dangerous to go alone)" is an idea that I'm really proud of. I remember the morning I posted the fic I needed a title, looked up zelda quotes, and mashed two of 'em together, and when I looked at it I was like "woah. that has so much meaning and it's fucking COOL". and it is! This is the fic where I can make myself laugh with the hilarity of zelink's amnesia when the other two get too intense, and where I can get super deep when the other two get too happy.
I feel that the real answer to this question, though, is pretty obvious in that it's "aftermath". that fic is my baby and I've poured all of my brain cells and knowledge of the zelda lore into that monstrosity. I like to think my characterizations of everyone is pretty spot on, and everything down to the chapter titles has meaning, which is why im proudest of my titles for the zelda povs. ever notice how they start with princess zelda quotes and then change to another character's once they get introduced and start causing drama? deciding which quotes to pick from was SO much fun.
12) Who is your favorite character to write for? Why?
It's literally a tie between Fi or Ganondorf. are we surprised? no.
There's just something about Ganondorf that makes me go off in the dialogue department, like the best dialogue i think ive ever written. I love a good villain monologue, and because Link is a mute protagonist that's all we ever get from our resident Gerudo man, and it gives me the excuse to just shit on the "good" guys for like five pages straight.
Fi, on the other hand, makes me go batshit crazy when it comes to body language and physical tells. her whole vibe as this eldritch being that's been around for centuries but just wants to be loved is something so upsetting and honestly so pure. fi rights!
17) Post a line from a WIP that you're working on.
from a future "a memory of younger days" chapter:
"He sees flashes, moments, of babies crying for adults who never come, of little boys clad in green slaying demons, and of young, bloodied men begging for their dead mothers to hold them in the aftermath."
45) What spurs you on during the writing process?
the fact that I like what I'm doing despite how hard it is! writing makes me happy no matter how much I complain about hating it, and the added factor of posting it on something like ao3 and receiving heaps upon heaps of positive feedback, even if I personally feel like it's not my best or it's just plain bad, really helps to keep me motivated. at least someone else other than me is reading my stuff and likes it enough to keep coming back for more!

Seven Minutes
Guess who’s writing some more human Inuyasha? That’s right. I’ve really neglected him I think. Anyway, enjoy a little canon Inukag scene! Rating T for that one, but nothing too serious.

When the door closed behind them and they both found themselves in the dark, the pair of human eyes unable to adjust well to the obscurity, Inuyasha’s voice cut the silence bluntly.
“Okay, now what the fuck are we supposed to do in here?”
Kagome let out a long, deep sigh. To be fair, she should have expected that. Now, she was really questioning her judgement. Why, exactly, had she thought that taking Inuyasha to her friend’s party was a good idea? Really, she hadn’t, but she knew she would have felt very bad all evening if she’d left him alone on his human night, even if he was safe in her era. She had thought that it would be easier for him to blend in, considering he was wearing human clothes and that he looked, well, human, and as it turned out, she was mistaken.
Her friends hadn’t seemed too surprised by the change in his appearance, just assuming he’d died his hair or something, which had made her felt somewhat better about it all. And then, of course, she had realized, feeling quite stupid about herself, that Inuyasha purely and simply didn’t blend in in a crowd of modern, human kids.
She couldn’t explain it, but he just stuck out. At first, she had thought she was the only one thinking that, and that it had to do with her own feelings for him, but she’d quickly understood it simply wasn’t true. People would naturally move aside to let him pass, sometimes pausing in their conversations to eye him up and down. Inuyasha seemed rather oblivious to it, which was somewhat of a relief. She didn’t want him to feel set aside here as well, when it was already true in the Feudal Era.
There were a couple of girls doing that, too, and she couldn’t say she enjoyed it, but she didn’t blame them either. She certainly couldn’t take his eyes off of him. He was taller than most guys here, and slightly more muscular. Not by much, considering his half-demon strength had nothing to do with muscle mass, but still, his shoulders were somewhat larger. More than that, there was something vibrant about him. An energy that surrounded him that she didn’t think she’d ever noticed before, or not like that, at least. It made everyone else look just… so bland.
“It’s just a stupid game,” Kagome mumbled, averting her eyes from where she could distinguish his form in the dark. “We don’t have to do anything.”
“That guy certainly looked like he wanted to get to do it with you,” Inuyasha half-growled, sound coming out a little strange with the human vocal cords.
Yes. That was how they’d found themselves in that situation. Because, when Yuka had mischievously suggested they should play ‘seven minutes in heaven’, Hojo had somewhat excitedly, and while blushing terribly, offered to play with Kagome.
Which Inuyasha had vigorously objected to, before basically dragging Kagome into the closet. And that was where they were now.
“So why would he want to do nothing with you?”
To be fair, she doubted anything would have happened if she’d been in there with Hojo. He was far too gentlemanly for that, and they would likely have just talked. She didn’t think she would have hated it.
But honesty forced her to admit that her heart had skipped a beat when Inuyasha had taken her inside. More than the idea that they would do anything, the thought that he wanted to do something with her had filled her with pleasant warmth. Of course, that was before she’d realized that Inuyasha had no idea what they were supposed to do, and now, she wasn’t exactly eager to let him know.
“Usually, people who play that game, erm, k-kiss, or do— things like that.”
“Oh.”
Inuyasha swallowed at that, mouth suddenly dry. It made him all the more happy with himself that he’d stopped the other guy from going in with her, but it also made him doubt himself. Had she— had she wanted to go in and— do that with that guy? Did she… Did she not want to do it with him? Was that why she was being weird?
“But we don’t have to do anything,” Kagome sighed dejectedly, misinterpreting his reaction. She wrapped her arms around her waist in a self-conscious gesture. There wasn’t anything wrong with Inuyasha not being attracted to her, and she would never blame him for that. It just made her a little sad, was all.
“You don’t— You don’t wanna?”
That had her looking up. Her eyes were starting to adjust, and she could make out his expression, even if it was just a little, and he looked— he looked like she probably did. If he’d had his dog ears right now, they would have been drooping.
“Do you want to—?”
“’m not, y’know, opposed to it,” he mumbled with what he tried to make a nonchalant shrug.
Kagome rolled her lips, trying to assess the situation, which wasn’t easy, what with her heart beating so loud in her ears she couldn’t hear anything else. Where did she go from there? How did she— initiate something?
“You’ve… done that before?” she asked, feeling a pang of jealousy in her chest.
“Well, you’ve— seen that,” he replied with a frown, and she remembered with distaste that time she’d seen him and Kikyo kiss.
“So, can I— Should I—”
“Y-yeah, sure, j-just—”
Kagome took one step towards him, and Inuyasha realized belatedly that his back was against the wall. He swallowed when she put her arms around him, hands on his shoulders first, before she moved them to cup his face. Even in the half-light, he could see her face was burning red. He doubted his was much different. When she pulled him towards her, he leaned forward, and closed his eyes just before their lips touched.
At first, it was a simple contact, but even that had his stomach doing loops. Her lips were soft, and tasted vaguely of cherry, probably due to that thing he’d seen her put on before they left. He awkwardly wrapped an arm around her waist, settling his hand on the small of her back, while he lifted the other to her cheek.
She pulled away, though she didn’t step back, body still pressed against his, and slowly lifted a hand to her lips, and Inuyasha thought that sight would have his heart bursting out of his chest, as her fingertips traced her mouth.
“A-again?” she offered, and God, he really hoped he wasn’t imagining that hopeful tone.
He merely nodded as a reply, and a second later she was pushing herself on her tiptoes to kiss him again. It was a little less shy, and this time, her mouth moved against his as she kissed his lower lip. A small, whimpering sound came from his throat as his hand tightened on her back, bringing her just a little closer.
He kissed her back hesitantly, and the feeling he got when she gasped into her mouth, right before her lips curved into a smile, was as close to ecstasy as he’d ever gotten. He groaned when her breasts got pressed against his chest, and did his best to focus on the kiss and not let his mind go— elsewhere. Which was hard to do, when she was everywhere.
Her smell wasn’t as present as it was when he was in his usual form, but he was still acutely aware of it, and coupled with her taste, which he’d barely even dared to dream of before, it was almost enough to overwhelm him completely, but it was only the beginning of it. She was warm, almost burning, one of her legs was lifted off the ground slightly and rubbing against his, her hair were tingling against his cheek, her hands were on his face in a gesture that felt so damn intimate, and— fuck, he was out of breath.
He was the one to pull away this time, panting, and he pressed his forehead against hers, refusing to let her move.
“E-everything okay?” she asked, voice trembling. “I don’t have much— experience.”
“N-nah. ’s all good. ’s pretty great, actually.” He doubted he could put in words exactly what she made him feel right now, because he couldn’t even fathom it. The fact that she was kissing him, that she’d want that… It made him so happy it almost physically hurt.
Swallowing, he took one of her hands off of her face to guide it to his chest, right above his heart. There was a moment of soft, delicate silence, until her mouth formed a silent ‘oh’. He couldn’t tell her how she made him feel, but at least, he could try to show her.
“Can I— Can I kiss ya?” he asked. She was the one who’d initiated it before, and he didn’t want to do anything she wouldn’t want him too, but her eager nod worked pretty well to reassure him about that.
There was a wide grin on his face when he leaned in. He kissed her carefully, like she could break at any second, but also with more intent than before. The soft noise of their mouths moving together, as well as the ruffling of their clothes, filled the small space. Kagome let out a small whimper, then opened her mouth against his, tongue pushing against his lips, and Inuyasha’s brain stopped functioning once and for all.
He parted his lips almost hesitantly, and felt her tongue pushing inside. She was almost disappointed not to feel his fangs — she had been wondering how they would feel for a while now — but decidedly kept going despite it. It wasn’t long until their tongues met, with movements awkward and shy, until they parted once again, a light chuckle on Kagome’s lips.
“We’re, um, not there yet, are we?”
“That’ll need some— practice, I guess,” Inuyasha conceded. “If— If you want to.”
She nodded.
“I’d love to. Just— This is—” Was it really the right time to bear her heart out to him? Wouldn’t she ruin this moment?
“Yeah?”
But his voice was so soft and gentle and he was warm and engulfing her and she felt so safe in his arms, and somehow, she couldn’t hold in what she’d felt for months even a second longer.
“I’m in love with you, Inuyasha,” she breathed out. “So if— if this doesn’t mean anything to you— if it’s not about the same thing for you, I can’t—”
“Kagome…”
The sadness in his voice nearly shattered her heart right here and there and despite his embrace, she felt the cold fill her. This was it, she’d done it. Now he’d reject her once and for all, not leaving any of that previously lingering ambiguity, and she wouldn’t even have that to cling to anymore.
“How can ya think that?” he mumbled, sounding almost offended. “’f course it’s ‘bout that for me. I thought I’d been— pretty clear ‘bout that, actually.”
Kagome let out a loud laugh of disbelief. This— what?
“It wasn’t— It wasn’t clear at all!” she protested.
“How wasn’t it clear?” he replied heatedly. “I told ya I wanted ya by my side! And I told ya there was no one else for me! And you’re the one who’s always cozying up with that stupid wolf—”
“Wait, you had doubts? Inuyasha, everyone knows I have feelings for you!”
She needed to stop saying that, ‘cause he really couldn’t think when she did. It just turned him into a big pile of emotions, and all he could think of was how much he wanted to kiss her again right fucking now.
So he did. He crushed his mouth hungrily against hers, and it was the most heated and passionate kiss they’d shared so far. It involved some uncomfortable teeth scraping against each other, but his hands also started moving over her body, grabbing one of her thighs to pull her closer to him. Kagome replied with just as much intensity, hands burying in his long hair, as she moaned in his mouth.
They weren’t there, sure, but they were learning.
“Hey lovebirds!” Yuka, probably inebriated, shouted from the other side of the door, “you don’t have much time left! Everyone! Ten! Nine!”
Horrified, Kagome pushed herself away from him, earning a disappointed growl, and quickly did her best to simultaneously rearrange her clothes and her hair. When Yuka opened the door, her wide, shit-eating grin told her it was no use. Ignoring her, Kagome grabbed Inuyasha’s hand, and pulled him outside. He followed without thinking twice about it, mostly because he couldn’t do much of that right now.
Now that they were out, the reality of what had just happened was settling with him. Him and Kagome’d just kissed. Several times. She’d told him she loved him. She’d told him she loved him. His ears were practically ringing, and he had no idea how to process any of it. So right now, following her was as good as anything else.
Kagome soon decided it was time for them to go back home anyway, and Inuyasha helped her into her coat before taking his place by her side. The walk was mostly quiet, the silence awkward but not completely unpleasant. Lots of things had been said that night, and they would definitely need to talk about them some more, but also, it was far from being bad. In fact, it could very well be the beginning of something really, really good.
Inuyasha reached out to take her hand about mid-way, and Kagome shot him a smile when he did, a smile that had his entire body burning once again. Even though they were in the middle of the street, he took one quick step towards her, and leaned in to press a brief kiss against her lips.
“So that— that’s okay with ya, right? ‘cause I— ‘cause I feel like ya?”
Ears and cheeks burning, Kagome managed to nod. Inuyasha gave her the brightest smile she’d ever seen on his lips, squeezed her hand in his, and Kagome marveled at the way he looked right now under the stars. Calm, relaxed, smiling. Happy. And the thought that maybe she played a role in that was much more than she could handle.
They didn’t add anything to the conversation for the moment. They didn’t feel the need to. Right now, the warmth of the other’s hand was all they needed, and with it, everything in the world was just right.

Head up, smoots below!
So I know this is late but it was this or nothing yeah? Anyway here is my Pride for Sins week!
If you don’t want the lemons, read it on Fanfiction or AO3 as they are edited. I know most don’t care but I KNOW I have a few readers that aren’t into lemons and I didn’t have any warnings. I wasn’t sure I was going to do smoots. I wanted them but I wasn’t sure I’d get them in. That’s the main reason this is late actually, it takes longer to write a lemon than a clean chapter lmao.
It’s also on my Patreon for free in it’s full glory so if you have preferences, I have given you many choices I think, yeah? And don’t forget to check out the collection! It’s where you can easily find all the Sins Week contributions. Art, fics, it’s amazing!

“Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would have others think of us.”
― Jane Austen, Pride and Prejudice
None of us said a word the whole way back to our apartment. Kikyo was still with us, walking in behind Inuyasha and I had to bite my tongue to keep from telling her to get the fuck out. If she was staying, then I had no problem spending the rest of the night in my room. I already had high hopes for doing that.
We made it to the living room before, shockingly, Kagome turned on Kikyo. “You need to go home…”
Before she could finish, Kikyo jumped on her. “You guys are overreacting! I was helping them! Doing something good for them! You’re both just too full of yourselves to see it!”
Kagome was calm to a point that it was scaring me. Slowly shaking her head at Kikyo she took her time and chose her words wisely. Something I never would have had the willpower to do in a million years. “I get that you think that, that you think you were helping them but…”
“I was!!!” Kikyo spat, cutting Kagome off again “Don’t you get it? These guys, they’re vir...gins. As in pure and innocent?! That’s the last thing you want and what they wanted, not knowing their way around a woman’s body? I was helping the two of you out too…”
This time, Kagome cut off Kikyo and it was not pretty. “You did exactly what you wanted to as always, Kikyo. They’re our mates, not yours but you’re so determined to make them into the men you think they should be that you’ve lost your own mate.” I was sure Kagome had never yelled at Kikyo that way. It was honest and it was clear Kikyo’s pride was broken getting scalded in front of so many. Kagome sighed and grabbed her shoulders tight. “You need to go home because Naraku is waiting for you there. Go talk to him, please.”
Leaving it at that as well as the rest of us, Kagome went to her room and we all stood there awkwardly for a moment. Kikyo silently sulked towards the door so I went for mine. Last thing I wanted was to be left alone with Inuyasha and Miroku.
Fully planning on getting my shower, I made it across my room to my hamper before I was no longer alone. I knew it was Miroku. Process of elimination as well as just knowing. “Just because you spent the day watching naked women shake their asses at you doesn’t mean I’m okay with you seeing me naked too. Get out!”
I refused to look at him, keeping my back to him and trying to get my shaking under control. Everything hurt and I wanted a hot shower even more. It had been a long day and the sun was only now heading for bed. The bright orange light filled my room with light and silence as he chewed on my words. He was still there, the door hadn’t squeaked like it always did when opened. Even if it didn’t do that, I knew he was there.
I could feel him.
That, above everything else, bothered me the most. It was clear we were connected to each other. The cocky man behind me was my soulmate and he was going to break me. It was inevitable. If my past had taught me anything it was that men like him use you up and spit you out. And I was tied to him? How was any of this fair, we should have never done that stupid spell!!
“Kikyo…” his voice was soft and unexpected, making me shiver at the sound of it, “she was only trying to help.”
I laughed hollowly and watched as I twisted my fingers together painfully. “Help. Right. All she did was help me to see your real needs.”
He took a step closer. I knew not because I heard it or saw it. I could feel that he was closer to me and my skin began to heat up in an unpleasant manner. “She was right. You are nothing but hubris. You think because I am your Mate that there is no work required to be together when all you’ve been is work for me.”
The knife he planted in my back, right in my heart, caused a numbness to slowly spread across my body. Now, his nearness didn’t burn at all.
I felt nothing.
“Then she did help you. Helped you to escape ‘the work’ of being with me as I want nothing to do with you anymore. We’re done.” He was still there though and the last thing I wanted was to give him another pair of breasts to look at and compare. So I faced him, planning to strip in the bathroom and his eyes were dull and lifeless. “You should just go back to where you came from.”
I made it to the bathroom in one piece, stripping as if my life depended on it. Because I felt like I might freeze to death if I didn’t get in the warm water soon. The hot water helped but I felt like I was getting sick. Having a demon from unknown origins touch you all over had to spread germs, right?
The stream had chilled so I turned up the heat when my curtain squealed back on the rod. I squealed too, covering all I could of my front and backing up into the corner for the rest. Miroku ignored me, stepping into the shower, naked as when I met him.
“What are you doing?! Get out!!!!”
He continued to ignore me, stepping into my water and getting good and wet. His hair free, I watched with trance like fascination as it dampened and stuck to his skin. The black made his skin look a little paler and I found myself looking at other parts, like his shoulders to start. Then his chest, wide and thick. Then his belly which wasn’t rippled like Inuyasha’s but soft and comfortable looking. But then I wrenched my eyes to the ceiling.
Don’t look at his penis, don’t look at his penis, don’t look at his….
“You can look, you know? You’ve seen it before and I really don’t mind.”
He was smirking, watching me and I glowered back. “Finish your shower and get out.”
Miroku clucked his fucking tongue at me and I nearly pounced on the cocky bastard. “That’s not very nice. But I know you don’t mean it.”
“I do!!!”
Chuckling, he shook his head at me and grabbed my elbow. It was either release my breasts and push him back or let him fold me into him. So I let him pull me in, unable to allow him the satisfaction of my naked body. I looked at the wall while he looked down at me, his hot breath warmer than the water we stood in as he panted on me. “Sango… why are you clinging so hard to your ego?”
Scoffing, I tried to step back but he held firm. “It’s not my ego, it’s you! How am I supposed to even look at you without seeing a naked woman on your lap?”
“By evening the odds.” Now I looked at him, utterly confused. “How many men have you had? Before we met, how many men have you slept with?”
“That’s none of your business!”
“I see. So it’s a lot?”
I slapped him then slapped myself when I covered my chest again. “That’s not the point! I didn’t know you yet!”
Biting my lip at my slip, I let him digest my words but he didn’t take long. “How am I supposed to function? Knowing that you’ll be comparing me to all those men? I have no experience, Sango. You are my first everything.”
“Not your first breasts!” I spat venomously.
It wasn’t fair and I knew it but I couldn’t stop myself. Miroku was right, my pride had been wounded. Before, I would have had no problem stripping for him and showing him all of my body. If I had known he was a virgin, I wouldn’t have hesitated, all my body issues would have melted away knowing he would have nothing to compare me to. But now? He had a hell of a lot to compare. And it was all fresh in his mind.
Grabbing my chin, I was forced to look at him. But once I met his dark blue eyes I felt trapped, unable or willing to look anywhere else. “If there is one thing I’ve learned today, it’s that no one is as beautiful as you, Sango.” I huffed as his cheesy line but he frowned. “No one.”
His mouth crashed to mine and my body reacted, wrapping around him just like an octopus. He wrapped around me as well, bending me back with his passion as he kissed the hell out of me. But the wicked thoughts remained in my head as he ran his hands over my back to my ass. Like what he thought of its size? The dips of cellulite? Was my skin smooth enough or tight enough? It was enough for me to push and pull from him, backing up into my corner again and catching my breath.
Now he could look at me fully, standing a good distance from him. I had my hands on the tops of my thighs to try and hide even if foolish. I had no problems with my stomach or my breasts. They weren’t as great as some of the strippers but they were a good size and shape and my belly was flat even if not toned. It was everything below my waist I struggled with. And Miroku had zeroed in on that part of my anatomy from the start.
I watched the floor and his feet, feeling his eyes drink me in so hard, it burned. He took the small step to me and my chin was grabbed again. I swear there was red in his eyes. A strange ember that was burning around his iris. It was scary but thrilling at the same time. And it had me back in my trance.
“No one compares to you.” He mumbled, stuck in the same trance with me.
Cornered, Miroku mushed into me, pressing his entire body against mine. He felt nice, not too hard and not too soft. Just like his kisses, heating up my body with his intense but gentle lips. His cock, which was pressing into my belly, was not soft at all. It was very hard. A voice whispered in my head, wondering if he got like this because of me or the other women he saw today? So I pressed my tongue to his, trying like hell to silence the voice, my ego speaking loudly in my brain.
His mouth trailed down my skin, pressing hot lips to my pulse. While his hands lifted my breasts into his hold, testing their weight before messaging the lumps. Miroku’s wet hair was wrapped around my fingers, grabbing and leading him around to where I wanted his mouth. I was fully ready to give everything to this man, my body, heart, and soul and I had known him for less than twenty-four hours.
Pushing as gently as my hot need would allow, I had him poised over a breast, wanting him to do everything to it. He grabbed my wrists first, pulling my hold off his head before barely licking my nipple. I arched on instinct, wanting more, but I suddenly found myself facing the wall. Miroku had flipped me around and now had my ass facing him.
I tried to spin back around but he held me still, my wrists in his hold and above my head. I was trapped. “What are you doing?!”
He was still pressed against me so at least he wasn’t looking at me. “Giving you what you need.”
This wasn’t what I needed. I fought against his hold but he just put my hands into one of his large ones and stood back. Miroku was examining me, looking over my weakest point of myself. The flame I had, the one he ignited, was quickly going out and all I wanted to do now was cry.
The hand that didn’t hold me still ran down my back, feather touches to my spine until it hit the top of my ass. “You’re so beautiful, Sango.”
Hot tears fell down my cheeks and I whimpered as his hand settled over one of my butt cheeks. “Liar.”
“I’m not.”
“How do I know? How could I ever know? And how could I ever believe you when you were soooo happy with those other women today?”
He squeezed my ass hard and groaned. “How would you ever believe me if I hadn’t? I could tell you till I was blue in the face that you were the most beautiful woman I’d ever seen. But if you were the only one I had seen, then you would never believe me.”
He was right but I still couldn’t give in to him. Call it condescension, I just couldn’t let him win. “If I was the only woman you’d ever seen then I would be the most beautiful to you. And that would have been more than enough.”
Miroku was pressed against me again, his dick digging in between my lower cheeks. “Sango, you’re the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. Every part of you is perfect. Will you please be my first?”
My hands were released and I slowly turned to face him. His eyes were glowing now, thanks to his smile and the red fire inside them. It was nothing like the smile he had given to the girls at the club earlier. There was something more to it, something else inside it that hadn’t been there before. It made me feel warm and gooey inside. And in between my legs, the urge to find out what his strange penis felt like strong.
Guess he would be a first for me too, I’d never had sex with a demon before.
I don’t know if he just knew my answer or didn’t care, cause I had said and done nothing when he grabbed my ass and lifted me up. My back was flush with the wall and I watched as he lined himself up. Seeing him at half mast didn’t prepare me at all, his cock now full of blood and raging. Most penises were a bit red when ‘angry’. Miroku’s was slightly purple. I didn’t know if that was from years of wanting or from all the teasing today but neither explained the large bumps along his shaft.
He looked like a dildo.
The water on it made it glitter like one too, looking just like the one I used to have before a jealous boyfriend got pissed and threw it out. He didn’t want to be compared to a toy and, given my body issues, I couldn’t argue with him on it. Wonder how he would feel knowing I was about to fuck the near copy of that dildo?
Probably nothing since he was happy with his tiny new wife.
Having that dildo was a blessing in disguise, because I was sure most would be freaked out or terrified by Miroku. The look he gave me when I remained calm but needy told me I was right, he had body issues too. That made my heart pound like crazy in my chest, a beautiful man like Miroku, who was full of pride, struggled with parts of himself too.
He was eager, getting his tip in slowly but then rushing the rest. In a blink, he had my pussy full of him but I didn’t mind. It wasn't my first time and he was struggling to contain himself. That, and shit he felt good. Better than the damn dildo. Miroku was warm and alive, pulsing and twitching inside me just like I was.
Frozen, he groaned with every slight movement so I remained still so he could recover. All I did was encourage, stroking his hair and kissing his temple and cheek.
“I’m sorry…” He groaned after a few moments.
I found his ear and pressed my lips to it. “It’s okay. Take your time.”
That was all he needed, my encouragement, to rally. I felt every delicious bump of his shaft as he pulled out of me. He was slow to pull out but fast to thrust back in. As if he hated to leave me. It wasn’t long until he had a rhythm, tickling me from my entrance to my dam as he bounced me.
Wrapping my legs around him, I used my hips to help him, putting our bodies flush and getting him deeper. It had him pressing hard on my clit with his pelvis, my walls twitching and juice flooding from the change.
Miroku released one hand from my ass and grabbed my hair instead, pulling my head back to get my neck. He was growling, biting and sucking to leave many marks on me. I didn’t care, I was seconds away from one of the best orgasms of my life.
“You feel… so amazing… oh Sango, I’m glad I waited…. You’re perfect… so perfect…”
Miroku was a talker, mumbling words into my neck while his tip danced, coming right before me. I grabbed his hair now, pulling his face back to look him in the eyes. “Don’t you dare stop!”
He didn’t. Instead, he grabbed my ass in both hands again and lifted me up and down on him. While he continued to thrust. It had him pounding my clit and rubbing my spot. All of him rubbed me actually, the man growing after coming and stretching me around him more. I was sure I was ripping out hair but I couldn’t stop, euphoria shaking me to my core as white overtook my vision. I heard Miroku groan again but I didn’t know if it was my grip on his hair or my grip on his cock, my pussy squeezing him as I came. I was still convulsing around him when he stopped, letting my walls press against him over and over again. It was like nothing I had ever had before, sometimes needing to finish myself with past lovers.
There was no need with Miroku, I was boneless as it was, unable to move in his arms at all. He continued to hold me tight to him, both of us out of breath. I registered him turning off the water, leaving it on the entire time we fucked. But then, Miroku pulled us from our corner and didn’t put me down. Not even to pull his cock from inside me.
“What are you doing?!”
I cowered a little at my bruskness, he had just given me the best sex and I was already yelling at him again. But he took it in stride, not losing his gorgeous smile. “Thank you, Mate, for a memorable first time. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will now take you as many times as I please.”
oOo
The loftiness of those two. Just because they finally have a man, they think they're better than me. Was that all I was to them? A good time? I was always there for them in the bad, getting them dates and taking them out when they got dumped.
God, they were just as bad as men, getting what they wanted from me then moving on.
Who needed friends like that? To lie to my face, just to get rid of me too. No way was Naraku just sitting here wai…
I stopped dead in my tracks, Naraku leaning up against my door. It was easy to forget the crazy, bird moment he had earlier, looking so sexy with his dark waves standing out on his white undershirt. He still had on his jeans, the hoodie he left in gone. He must have gotten hot and taken it off. And just how many women did he have wrapped around his finger after today?
Even though I never asked, I was pretty sure he wasn’t a virgin when we met. He was far too eager and sure of himself when we fucked. There was nothing that was just mine, I had to share my soulmate too.
He moved to the side so I could unlock and open the door. But that was all he gave me, silent as he followed me inside. My place was the same size as Kagome’s and Sango’s but it was all mine. They never asked me to room with them but I liked living alone anyway.
Naraku stood, annoyed, just behind me as I moved to my bedroom and stripped off my jeans. “What are you doing here?”
His response was to enter deeper into the room, standing up to me. Grabbing my hips, he pulled us flush against each other. If I had protests, I wouldn’t have been able to voice them as he captured my mouth at such a speed it would’ve been impossible.
We both moved, backing me around to the bed. When I fell to it, he remained standing to strip and I watched. The way he stood, naked with his cock straining at attention, there was no way I was his first.
I let that thought linger while he crawled over me, ripping my top off me in my daze. He was already inside me when I woke up from my revelry, slowly pulling in and out of me like lovers. It felt good. Amazing really, especially with the attention he was giving my breasts, licking and sucking them. But I just wasn’t in the mood.
I flipped us and he didn’t complain, putting my weight on his shoulders to angle myself perfectly. It was what I did when I just wanted to get off, my clit pressed to his hips and my nipples rubbing on his chest. All while I pushed his dick into my g-spot. Now, it felt amazing, tipping towards my end quickly.
Damn if the bastard didn’t flip us again. I glowered up at him as he held himself over me. He smirked back, grabbing my knee and pulling it up to my chest. When he rammed into me, I was surprised. That’s why I cried out. Not because he was revolutionary or anything. I wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of knowing he made my head spin.
Naraku was going at my pussy hard now, really fucking me and I was seconds from falling into bliss again, when he started squawking.
Fuck it was distracting, grabbing his face in my hands and stopping all movements and sounds. “Don’t do that!”
“What?”
“Squawk!!!”
He grinned, slowly moving his hips again and teasing me. “It’s a compliment. I don’t let out my animal side for anyone.”
“You did this afternoon….”
“That was different. Just shut up and let me enjoy you.”
Talking was over and I was partly glad. I didn’t like talking in bed. Naraku went back to ramming and squawking and I closed my senses off to it, focusing on his dick as much as possible. My orgasm hit and I moved against him, trying to get as much as possible from him as I came. He dropped my leg and ground his pelvis against my clit, making explosions of pleasure shoot through me until I finished. The last thing he did was pull out to come in his palm, rushing off to the bathroom a few minutes later.
I was pulling on fresh clothes when he returned, looking me over as if confused. Did he think we would cuddle? Or go again? I wasn’t in the mood for either at the moment, a bit pissed at myself for falling back into bed with this man so easily. “Why did you come back?”
He shrugged, “I was told to return.”
I swallowed the bitterness that was in my mouth from that statement. “What does that mean?” He was silent and I tore my eyes from him back to nothing. “If you don’t want to be here, then leave.”
“I’m supposed to talk to you first.”
Great, I hated it when men said they ‘wanted to talk’. It was never good. Especially right after sex. “Let’s get this over with then.”
Naraku moved to sit on the bed, flopping in a manner that I could only describe as not sexy. “You’re unfaithful. How am I ever to trust you as a mate?”
“Me?! You’re the one propositioning Kagome right in front of me,” his eyes went wide and I grimaced at him, “I could hear you, you idiot.”
“Impressive hearing for a human. Especially one that only listens to themself.”
I growled back at him, “how would you know? You’ve barely spent ten minutes with me where you weren’t fucking me…”
“And who’s fault is that? You left me with others to go on a date!” Now my mouth hung open. “I could hear you too, you idiot.”
“Arrggg, I never should have summoned you! I don’t want you!”
Your cunt says otherwise! If it wasn’t for Master’s commands, I would be long gone!”
“Wait, what?” I squeaked.
I expected a fight or something but he was all too willing to fill me in… as usual. “Kagome. She is our Master and it’s for the best that we obey…..”
“Does she know this?”
I stared at him, searching his face for a lie. But he had never lied to me and now wasn’t different. He shook his head to say he wasn’t sure but I was. In a rush, I grabbed my jeans back up and started shoving them on.
“What are you doing?”
“I’m going to Kagome’s. She needs to be stopped before she ruins In… others.”
If I hurried, I could stop Kagome from controlling Inuyasha. Whether she knew it or not. And he could be mine instead.
oOo
I went into my room but I didn’t really have much of a reason. Other than wanting to be alone. It was way too early for me to go to bed. I probably should have showered but I could hear Sango’s shower going. The apartment was older and didn’t allow two showers at once. Unless you wanted a cold one.
With nothing more to do, I changed and got in the bed only to lie there. I was exhausted. A day from hell. But my brain would not shut the fuck up.
From the moment I met Inuyasha, to his jealousy over Naraku, and to him dancing on the stage I thought about each and every moment, marking when I said something to him to influence him. Was it only when I spoke? Or did it go off my thoughts too? I had wanted him to hold me and be here for me. I would be happy with being friends too, just a good, strong male friend that could comfort me like my friends couldn’t. There was just something about a man that cares for you that a female can’t cover.
I was so lost in thought, I missed when I stopped being alone. The bed shifted and before I could turn, Inuyasha spooned against me. His arms wrapped around me, filling me with comfort that quickly soured. I didn’t know if he was here because he wanted to be or because my thoughts brought him.
As gently as possible, I pushed at his hold. “Inuyasha, I think you should sleep on the floor.”
“Why?” I was biting my tongue, not wanting to command him to do anything out of fear he would follow. “Is it because of that place? Those women?”
I really didn’t care that he went to a strip club. He was the main attraction there anyway, dancing better than the midday B squad.
He misunderstood my silence. It wasn’t that I was angry, I was terrified to speak! But it didn’t deter Inuyasha, his nose digging through my hair until he found the back of my neck. “Don’t be mad, Master.”
I cringed and stiffened, trying again to pull away from him. I felt sick but Inuyasha refused to let me go. What could I say? Nothing. It would force his hand either way. He was rubbing his face into me, up and down the back of my neck. His lips grazed my skin along the top of my spine and I felt my entire body catch flame. None of me wanted him to stop and I didn’t know if he knew that. If he could feel it and was compelled by it.
“Can you… hear my thoughts?” He froze and shook his head, his nose going side to side on my neck. “So you don’t know what I want?”
“I wish I did.” I felt it was obvious but he was innocent and naive. “I want you, Master. No one else. You have to know that, right?”
I wanted him too, my body was practically screaming for him. “I… I…”
Clamping my mouth shut, I stopped myself from saying anything. Anything from my mouth could sway him and I didn’t want that. The last thing I wanted was to control him and make him do anything with this power I had. One that I didn’t understand but was there.
His hands were starting to move, going up to my ribs and turning around to go to my hips and back. He wanted my permission but I couldn’t get my mouth to move to give it. Each time his hands landed on my hips, they twitched, trying to move his touch elsewhere without saying a word. His hips moved too, pressing into my ass with a rhythm that I was meeting. His hardness was between my cheeks, grinding. And I ground back.
“Master…” he moaned and I whimpered back, “tell me what you want…”
I was going to die. I wanted… no needed him but he was waiting for my command. I refused to give it, I wouldn’t do that to him ever. “I want… you to stop calling me Master.”
He growled, “Kagome,” and I swear I nearly came from that alone. Then he grabbed my knee, slinging it over his hip and putting his hand flat on my inner thigh. I was now spread out for him on my side.”Show me what you want… what to do…”
With his hand inching closer and closer to warmth, I didn’t need more to understand. So I took the hand he had on my thigh and pulled two of his fingers free. Using my fingers, I pressed him to my folds. My panties were already wet and they were only getting wetter as I showed him what to do. He took over in a few shuddering breaths, placing a hand over my mouth instead so I didn’t get too loud.
Sango was still in the shower for now but who knew when she’d get out and be able to hear us.
He stopped but only so he could slip his hand inside my panties instead. A finger slipped and neared my entrance, but what was an accident caused me to whimper loudly and Inuyasha to explore. His finger slid inside me with ease and my body reacted, my hips twisting to get more.
Maybe it was curiosity, seeing pairs of breasts earlier that day? Or that I was panting and mine were bouncing, but Inuyasha took his free hand to cup a breast and squeeze. It caused me to squeeze his finger with my walls. To which, Inuyasha growled again and slipped another finger inside me, gripping my breast tight.
With all this attention, my nipples were standing at attention through my shirt. When Inuyasha started strumming it, my mind started spinning. I was pretty sure I was hopping on his fingers, wiggling against his touch.
He stopped again, pulling his fingers out of me and his hand out of my underwear. This time, it was to rip them in half, my cloth panties now strips of nothing. He gently pushed my leg off of him to shift behind me, getting his pants down. Soon, he had his cock pressed against my ass with nothing between us. It was hot and large. I wanted to look at it but with him behind me, it was impossible. I didn’t need to, I could feel it’s length and girth.
Inuyasha was huge.
My leg was back on his hip again and his fingers were in my folds, splitting them until he found my clit. The hard nob stood out and I jumped when he pinched it, telling him he had found what he was looking for.
With his hands occupied, he had to put himself in without assistance. Lining himself up, he twisted his hips around then pushed. I could feel him, pressing my entrance but then slipping past it. I was wet and ready but he was big and struggled to go inside.
So I reached down and held him in place.
Every inch of him forced me to stretch around him, my body expanding to accommodate but doing so willingly. Once up to his hilt, I felt impossibly full. Now Inuyasha was the one whimpering, his husky sighs of want vibrated my ear and neck. With him still rubbing my clit, I was pulsing around him. It wasn’t going to take me long to come, not with his large cock and stroking fingers. I didn’t expect him to last long either, what with it his first time.
He started moving and my entire insides fluttered. It was like being on a roller coaster, doing a loopty-loop. And I loved roller coasters. Inuyasha was giving me one hell of a ride, twisting his hips to move more. I pushed on the bed, backing up into him and holding myself still against his thrusts. I wasn’t going anywhere, his arms locked around me, a hand in my snatch and one on my breast. But I felt like I was falling so I held on tight.
Wrapping his finger and thumb around it, Inuyasha rolled my clit around and hit my lovely spot inside at the same time. I was crying, begging him not to stop even though he hadn’t so much as hesitated. Coming hard and strong left me saying crazy things.
Heat was spreading through my bones and Inuyasha was still pumping more pleasure into me. The last of my orgasm squeezed all of me tight, my body tensing and Inuyasha moaned loudly in my ear. With us both still, I could feel him as he pumped into me, coming just as I finished like a good lover.
We didn’t move, still wrapped up in each other and catching our breath. I don’t know how much time passed but I did notice that Inuyasha was still hard. Impossible to miss with him still inside me. “Was that… good?” He had to ask? I couldn’t help but giggle at him and nod. Inuyasha squeezed me tighter and rubbed his lips along my neck again. “Can we… do it again?”
I wanted to. Dear god did I. But I needed a minute, pushing gently on him to get free. “Some water first, please?”
Turning to face him, I caught the brilliant glow of his eyes before he pressed a hard and fast kiss to my lips. He kissed me a few times, trying to start round two now. With a little pushing I got free of his lips, giggling when he continued to try. He gave up soon, getting to his feet and quickly fixing his pants. I could still see his hard on inside his sweats.
When I tried to get up, he gently pushed me back down. “I’ll get your water. You stay and keep your clothes on,” he said suddenly and I looked at him to question, “I want to be the one to take them off you.”
Even with us just having sex, I still blushed at his words. Inuyasha was gone a second when the door flew open again, Sango flying into my room. I caught the wild look of her hair and the towel she had wrapped around her and found myself once again confused. “Did you just get out of the shower??”
“Kagome, you have to help me. He won’t stop.”
“Sango!”
I was stunned to my bed, not wearing much more than Sango, when Miroku stormed in. He wore a towel too, thankfully. Seeing him naked once was enough for me.
He was grabbing Sango, trying to pull her into his arms and Sango was trying to turn him down. It looked like she didn’t know how to tell him no. I struggled to understand just what the problem was. “Miroku! Listen to Sango!!”
My stomach turned when he stopped and did as I ordered, gently holding Sango instead of pulling her to his mouth. “I need a break!”
“But… I want more…”
“So do I but I need to rest at least a little bit!!!” Sango screamed.
If they were talking about what I thought they were, they needed to do it elsewhere. I was still trying to calm my stomach as it was, getting off the bed to search out Inuyasha. He wanted me to wait for him here but I was pretty sure he didn’t know where the glasses were.
I had to push the couple out of my way to get out only to glance back at them in confusion. Was I asleep or something? Or had I hit my head? Did Inuyasha and I not just make love? Or was all of it in my head starting from his care for me?
I was questioning everything but that’s what happens when you walk out to your soulmate kissing another woman, Inuyasha and Kikyo mid makeout while my heart cracked into a million pieces.
No guarantees on another chapter today guys. I’m going to try but it’s not looking good already. Sorry!

OH RIGHT OKAY here’s my thought spew from age of calamity. major spoilers inside obviously, read at your own risk!! also it’s super long and mostly here for my own reference for when I eventually write a fic lmao
i’m literally just throwing this all out here so it might not be in any discernable order
first thing I guess I wanna talk about is Zelda’s characterization; it’s much the same as BOTW in the beginning, which makes sense. It’s very interesting to have seen how she reacts when Link gets the sword. I wrote her in BOTW: Rewritten as feeling quite behind or inferior compared to Link, since he already had his power and his sword, and she was still struggling to find hers... and that’s exactly what happens in AoC!
After abandoning her father for dead - oh right this scene okay hang on
when the King says to Link “You are the Princess’ chosen knight. I’m sure you’re aware of your duty” or something along those lines, we suddenly see what is probably the most emotion animated onto Link’s face anywhere in these games. He is being ordered by the King to keep her safe, not to fight for the kingdom. Of course it’s a fair argument that keeping Zelda safe is fighting for the kingdom, but that really just ties in with Link’s destiny super well - despite all the pomp and circumstance, despite his bowing whenever the King is around, he isn’t loyal to him. He’s loyal to Zelda, and Zelda alone, and he only needs that reminder once. It’s in his soul to keep her safe, no matter the cost, because if she’s safe, there’ll always be hope. (Nevermind all the angsty bullshit about him being Hylia’s chosen knight and strung along like a puppet because she knows that he’ll always act selflessly in Zelda’s best interests, no matter what.)
anyway yeah that just hit me.
ANYWAY after abandoning her father for dead and running away the following quests have her being even more self-deprecating and by this point it was starting to get pretty old; we’ve already seen the “everything I did was all in vain/my friends and father are dead” sad bullshit once before and seeing it again was... I mean it just doesn’t hit quite as hard, but I did appreciate the extra delving into Zelda’s character, motivations, and general handiness when it comes to tech and building - she isn’t the holder of the triforce of wisdom for nothing
so riiiiight around the time when i was about to be like oh for fucks sake zelda get it together, Impa said it for me (which was appreciated; Impa’s character did a really nice job of grounding the viewer whereas having just Zelda and Link before was a pretty one-sided affair in botw) and then, things changed.
thanks to the destiny changing egg, the champions weren’t dead, their descendants/future champions came to their rescue - a moment I legitimately freaked out at - and there was hope for Hyrule. Finally, add to that her father being alive, and we suddenly had a Princess Zelda who believed in herself and who was capable at not just wielding her triforce but leading an endless number of troops from across the continent into battle.
Her character snapped into place just as it did in botw, but we actually got to see her take advantage of it this time. This game had plenty of missions in which Zelda had to be protected, or had to be helped, despite the fact that she can fight; but by the end of it, they took the “damsel in distress” trope that Zelda has always been burdened with and they completely flipped it on its head. They gave us what we were used to and then they snatched it away.
I really did like that it was her desperation to save Link which once again activated her triforce; you can’t tell me these two don’t fucking love each other okay get out of my face
but for real, I know there were flashbacks there to her dad “dying” and there was guilt and her probably realising that constantly being ushered away or running away is obviously not working, but for someone whos life is so valuable and who is made horrifyingly aware of that fact over and over and over again - to potentially throw herself at death’s doorstep - is a Big Fucking Deal. She doesn’t activate the triforce of wisdom because she thinks it’s the smart thing to do, and it’s certainly not a last ditch effort like it was in botw - she could have definitely let Impa run her away from the danger - it’s because Link is about to die, and she loves him, and she’s finally letting herself (or having no choice but to) feel it, maybe for the first time.
and yeah you can argue that it’s not love or that it’s just platonic, that’s fine, I really have nothing against ppl that don’t like zelink for whatever reason and I appreciate that nintendo makes it so it can be read either way. but aoc having the same mechanic as botw did for her getting her sealing power back... was like, really nailing it in. And some of the cutscenes definitely help with that!
okay uhhh what else
please show us zelda’s mom
please show us link’s parents???
whomst is astor - they really just had this nobody show up with no backstory being like “I WAS CHOSENNNN” and then nothing happens with him. he doesn’t have the triforce of power. to be honest at no point do we even see it. the final ganon battle looking more like ganon was really nice but I would have appreciated some sass or some talking there, because that’s really what I crave in final battles like that. I don’t want to cut down some mindless beast. it’s not satisfying.
kohga and sooga were really cool to have in there; confused on kohga a little cause don’t you fight him post-calamity in botw? they did some amazing things for both of their characters, so I was really hoping to have sooga as a playable character too and I found myself confused when just kohga showed up to pledge loyalty to zelda. I understand that they probably still needed some sort of yiga boss for other missions but like... eh..... I want Sooga damnit. also if he’s one of kohga’s “lackeys” and also spoke shit both to astor’s face and behind his back, it’s safe to assume he’d join the Good side... yeah. oh well. did hyrule warriors ever do DLC? maybe that’ll be a thing
the music fucking slapped, holy shit, holy shit, the music was amazing.
revali being even more sassy towards link was fantastic but also INTERESTING because since link doesn’t even have the sword yet, it’s like... kinda... fair?? that he has no clue why this random kid soldier is here to help out. and of course he ends up developing a bit in his character to acknowledge link later on. I think it’s good to remind ppl that revali is quite young afaik?? so him having a rivalry with link kinda makes sense, based on his already-established character of being quite cocky and sure of himself (which botw dlc taught us doesn’t come without it’s fair share of intense insecurity, self-doubt, and practicing until he’s exhausted). i love revali’s character. I love revali. protect him.
okay I don’t know what else to write I should probably go work on blooming in adversity LOL
EDITING TO ADD CAUSE I JUST REWATCHED THE SCENE, but the fact that Link’s triforce is awakened by a desperate desire to save Zelda; and she’s reaching out for him at the same time (maybe she almost gets hers at the same time omg) was fucking incredible yep can’t wait to write it that’s all im gonna say
