there’s a really interesting phenomenon going on that I've seen mostly on twitter in which people are pretending The Last Jedi and the other Sequel movies is and was always good, actually.

it seems to me as if there's a new consensus that the people who did and still do dislike that movie are those mad about Rey being a woman, Finn being a black man, etc, and while I'm a thousand-percent sure that's true, that some people hate that movie for stupid and bigoted reasons, it doesn't change the fact that The Last Jedi (and truly, the entire Sequel Trilogy) is just flat-out a bad movie.

All three of those films suffer hugely because all three are fundamentally different at a ground level. They are inherently disconnected in a way that a trilogy should not be, leaping from idea to idea that the next film inevitably squanders. There is no consistent storyline other than 'First Empire Bad'; there is barely any buildup to to the reveal of Palpatine, Kylo Ren as a character flip-flops between tortured badboy to Maybe Redemption Arc and back. It's not because he's conflicted, it's because everything is simply inconsistent.

Finn and Poe are done huge disgraces by the end of it all, Kylo Ren having been deemed more important and heroic than they are, and The Love Story is just terrible. The end of The Last Jedi sees Kylo Ren successfully assassinate Snoke, which is a pretty cool fucking thing to happen, but Rise of Skywalker squanders the aftermath of that idea with the rushed redemption.

These are movies that feel like each one was supposed to have its own subsequent trilogy; put together, they're a mess.

You didn’t understand why Ren had forced you into a marriage at first. You assumed, like other men who force women into such bonds, that he wanted something cruel and selfish. You prepared yourself to resist, even if fear gripped you, you would rather die than let him touch you like that.

But to your surprise, on your wedding night, he entered your now shared room with nothing but a condition: you would obey his commands in public, but in private, you had the freedom to be yourself. It wasn’t ideal, but it was better than being in a cell.

And when he saw your collection that night, he laughed- a genuine laugh that lit up his entire face. It amused him how you seemed to be so fascinated with these common, mundane flowers. It was the start of something beautiful, fragile, and so terribly dangerous. 

The flowers became your secret language. Every time he returned from a mission, he brought you a new one. Each time he saw the sparkle in your eyes and the smile he put on your face, his heart softened further. But the day he brought a flower and your smile didn't reach your eyes, something in him shattered. 

“What’s wrong?” he asked, hesitantly stepping closer.

“Nothing,” you shook your head dismissively.

He took your hand, a rare gentleness in his touch. “I know you’re lying. Please. Tell me.” 

You hesitated, your gaze flickering to meet him. “You don’t want to know.”

“I do. Please talk to me,” he urged.

“I was just thinking… about everything,” you admitted.

He frowned, confusion and worry etched in his features. “And that made you sad?”

You nodded. “Yes. Because I see good in you, Ren. You don’t have to serve the dark side,” you said, cautiously.

His hand fell away, his eyes darkening. “You don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“I do,” you insisted, stepping forward. “You don’t have to be the monster you pretend to be. I know there’s a part of you that is good. You saved my life. At first, I thought it was out of cruelty or control, but now I see… you were trying to protect me. You can’t hide that part of yourself anymore.”

“And why does that matter?” His voice grew rough with frustration, his fists clenching at his sides. “Why does it matter if I’m good or bad?” 

“Because I have grown to care about you,” you confessed, your voice trembling. “I like you. And it hurts to see you hiding behind this wall, pretending to be something you’re not. You’re more than just darkness and cruelty-”

His expression shifted, confusion flickering in his eyes. “Y- you care about me?” The words seemed to echo in his mind, blocking out everything else you said. 

As he pointed that out, you realized you revealed more than you intended. You took a shaky breath, there was no denying it now. “I…I do.”

You braced yourself for anger or rejection, but instead, he closed the distance between you. His hand rested at the back of your head, and he searched your eyes for any sign of discomfort, rejection. Finding none, he leaned in and pressed his lips to yours,s o gently you almost didn’t believe it was real. Your hands found their way to his hair, tangling as you deepened the kiss, feeling the walls between you finally crack.

From then on, he became more caring, more affectionate. Even with his troops, he was still intimidating but gentler.

He had opened up to you, sharing stories of his past, of his grandfather, and the legacy that haunted him. In return, you spent hours studying their histories, trying to understand the world that shaped him.

One day, he captured  a girl who held crucial information about his uncle. He didn;t want you to see her, but word got around, and you found your way to the room. The sight of her, bound and defiant, brought back memories of your own capture. You talked to her, and eventually, you freed her. She hesitated, begging you to leave with her, but you told her that Kylo wouldn’t harm you.

“Where is she?” he stormed into your shared room, his voice like thunder.

“Who?” you feigned innocence, though your heart raced.

“Don’t play with me, Y/n. I’m not in the mood. Where’s the girl?” His fists clenched, his nostrils flaring.

“Oh, Rey?” you replied with forced nonchalance. “I let her go.”

His eyes widened in disbelief. “Let her go? You let her go?”

“Yes.”

“Do you have any idea what-” He was interrupted by a  trooper informing him they’d located her. His father was there, too. Without another word, he stormed out, leaving you behind.

You followed, finding him poised to strike his father down. “Stop!” you cried, your voice cracking with desperation.

“Get back to your room,” he ordered, his voice like ice.

“Ben, please,” you pleaded, taking a cautious step forward. “You don’t want to do this.”

“Don’t come any closer,” he warned, raising a hand, ready to use the Force.

“Remember what you told me about your grandfather?” you pressed, your voice trembling but determined. “Vader returned to the light. He saved his son, and his son saved him. If you want to honor him, let your father go. Please, come back to me. I won’t leave without you.”

“Y/n!” he growled, the conflict raging in his eyes.

Heart pounding, you took a final step back toward the railing. “I’m giving you a choice, Ben. Will you let your love for me win…or your thirst for power and revenge?”

“Don’t try anything reckless,” he warned, fear flashing across his face.

“Then choose me,” you whispered, before letting yourself fall into the void. Fear gripped you, you didn’t want to die, but hope lingered- that he would save you, choose you. 

You never hit the ground. His arms caught you, and you opened your eyes, he held you tightly. He’d let go of his father to save you. He chose love over hate.

Guiding him back to the light was a slow, painful process, but he let you in, step by step. Peace followed, but the dream began: visions of a place you knew you had to return to. You couldn’t ignore the signs any longer. You knew what that meant. You had to go, leave him behind, return to your life, your own timeline. You spent the last few days giving him all the love you could, spending every minute of every day with him.

The day finally came. You brought him the coordinates, the dread heavy in the air. When he asked you about it, you told him you’d been having dreams about that place and wanting to explore it, without explaining further.

When you arrived, you saw the thing that looked like a portal of some kind, but he couldn’t see it. To him it looked like a wall.

He sensed your pain and unease. “Y/n, why are we here?”

You inhaled slowly, unsure of how to tell him this. “I have to go back.”

“Go back? Where, Y/n? Go back where?” He knew the truth, but he didn’t want to hear it, believe it.

“You know where,” you said, tears welling in your eyes. “I have to. All signs are telling me I can’t be here, Ben. The dreams, this unsettling feeling, the accidents lately. I’m not meant to be here anymore,” you explained.

“Nonsense,” he whispered, voice cracking. “You belong here with me. You can’t leave me now…Please,” he begged, his voice breaking.

“I believe I was brought here to save you, to guide you back to the light.That  purpose is fulfilled. I must go back and you have to let me. I don’t belong here and you know that, no matter how much I want to, how much you want me to… If you love me, you will let me go.” A tear slipped down your cheek and in a moment he was there, wiping it away, his hand trembling.

“But I love you,” he choked out.

“I love you, too. Maybe in another world, in another life, we’ll find our way back to each other. I will miss you so so much, Ben. And I will always love you.” 

You kissed him one last time, lingering, memorizing every sensation, not wanting the kiss to end. But it had to. You struggled to pull away, but when you did, you didn’t look back. You walked toward the portal, his fingers slipping from yours. That touch was the last thing you felt before awoke, to see yourself back in the lab, with tears streaming down your face.

Context

Rey and Ben switch sides

Throughout the movie, Ben demonstrated a more Jedi like stance, while Rey is prone to anger, takes the quick and easy path and fights like a Sith. So instead of truly doing something subversive, by making the heroine a villain and having someone we thought was the villain fight to bring her back to the light. DLF is once again too cowardly to take risks with this trilogy and sticks with the status quo by having Ben stay with the darkside and Rey as the Jedi, cause godforbid we try something different.

So what if instead of Ben revealing Rey's parents were "filthy junk traders" Snoke reveals she was Palpatine's labrat. "Tell me dear child. Did you know the Empire fell at the battle of Jakku? Of course you do. What's not common knowledge is Palpatine's secret laboratory on Jakku. Constantly trying to create the perfect apprentice to replace Lord Vader and his final experiment was deemed a failure. Kept in suspended animation...until pathetic junk traders thought they could make a quick buck. To their disappointment. They found a child. You. Palpatine's labrat."

And this revelation causes Rey to lose it. Ben helps by using Rey's lightsaber to kill Snoke, the throne room fight happens and that's when the turn happens.

Ben decides he wants to save his mother and the Resistance. Damn Snoke and The First Order. All the dark side brought him was misery. He should have left with Han when he had the chance.

And all Rey wants to do is burn it all down. "The Jedi. The Sith. The First Order and the Resistance. Like you said, it's time to let the past die." They fight for the lightsaber, the Holdo manuver happens and Ben leaves first.

Rey kills Hux.

Ben, Luke and Leia reunite and make up after so many years of hurt, betrayal and remorse.

Luke and Ben fight off The First Order.

But something is terribly wrong.

In the amidst of the battle, Rey returns and is enraged at the site of Luke Skywalker and unleashes the full power of the darkside on The First Order.

Luke tells Ben to protect his mother and the Resistance.

Luke sacrifices himself. Tells Rey he's failed her and he's sorry. Rey can only scorn Luke.

Rey goes in for the kill and that's when she realizes he was never there.

"I will always be there with you Rey, just as I should have been as your master. Don't be what he made you to be."

And all Rey can do is breakdown and cause a force scream strong enough to leave a crater.

Ben, Leia, Finn and Poe work together and plan to bring Rey back and save her from herself.

Rose and Poe switch roles

TLDR; version.

Finn is a child soldier who knows the horror of war. Poe is the one who needed to see that this war is not as black and white as he believes it to be and actually be confronted with Slip's death and in turn both Finn and Poe liberate a camp of freshly recruited child soldiers and the master codebreaker.

Rose actually has history with Holdo. If you read the novel TLJ:Cobalt Squadron. You will know it ends with Rose serving on Holdo’s ship the Ninka. Now imagine this. Rose just lost her sister and Holdo is withholding information that is vital to the Resistance’s survival. Rose is kept in the dark and believes this will be the end of everything and doesn’t want Paige’s sacrifice to be in vain. So Rose covers Finn and Poe’s escape to Canto Bight and works with Connix and those loyal to Poe and leads a mutiny against Holdo. Remember. Holdo didn’t just leave Poe in the dark, she left THE ENTIRE RESISTANCE in the dark. So Rose would lead the mutiny and Leia would awaken to stop her, only Leia would not stun her. Leia would talk Rose down, ya know, like Leia would actually do.

Kylo cuts Rey's hand off

After Rey refuses his hand, Kylo simply lets Rey get her lightsaber and uses Rey's feralness against her and cuts her hand off and severs her lightsaber. Kylo leaves Rey while he takes her hand. "I have everything I need."

In Episode IX from this scenario, we would find out Kylo Ren used dark side alchemy to clone a Dark side Rey from her severed hand.

Captain Phasma actually does something.

My better use for Phasma is basically making her obsessed with killing Finn.

Make Phasma a deranged individual obsessed with capturing and executing Finn. Phasma is basically Captain Ahab and Finn is her great white whale to chase. She flies her own personalized Chrome Tie Interceptor. She is hunting Finn to the ends of the galaxy. Each battle they face she is there ready for him, every time he isn’t there, she kills every Resistance soldier there. Phasma is losing it, Hux is worried, but both Snoke and Kylo believe this will be beneficial in destroying The Resistance. And finally she finds him on The Supremacy. Finn and Phasma go head to head. finally on equal levels and in this moment it happens. Finn’s old comrades come, Finn believes this is the end, but to his surprise they shoot Phasma down. Phasma is knocked down in the ruins of the Star Destroyer. But Phasma makes her escape with Hux.

As for her role in TROS, I would have Finn reveal the truth to everyone that she disabled the Starkiller shields and after Finn convinces the Stromtroopers to rebel.

Finn and Phasma fights. Finn wielding a Lightsaber, while Phasma wields a Darksaber. Finn's brother in arms helps him and as Finn has her at his mercy. "You were always scum."

"I'm a Jedi" and then Finn decapitates Phasma, ending her reign of terror.

Rose Tico the spy.

There are two ways we can play this. The sympathetic way and the evil way.

The sympathetic path.

Many people thought Rose was going to be a Lando type figure right? Well let's remember, Rose was heartbroken about Paige and what happened to her world. So let's say Hux made a deal. Put the tracker on the Raddus and deliver FN-2187 to the Supremacy for execution in exchange for The First Order to end the occupation of her homeworld of Hays Minor. Only, The First Order is not the Empire, it's worse. So when Rose asks if he'll end the occupation, what Hux does is give her one tiny rock. "A deal is a deal" Rose looks horrified…"what have you done" "that's all that's left of Hays Minor, The First Order does not deal with Resistance scum" Rose is horrified and broken, whatever hurt Finn felt from Rose's betrayal, she is now his only hope off the Supremacy. So Finn and Rose help each other because they now both know what it's like to lose everything to The First Order.

The villain path

First of all. Rose Tico was Paige’s sister. The real Rose Tico died prior to the battle of Starkiller Base and was replaced by the changeling(like Zam Wessell) known as Rosita Thorn. Her mission? Infiltrate The Resistance, place the hyperspace tracker on board The Raddus and bring the traitorous FN-2187 to either be reconditioned or executed for treachery.

Meanwhile, Holdo tells Poe while they are isolated. "There is a spy on board. It is a changeling, who can turn into anyone. I kept you out of the dark because I didn't know if I could trust you. But now I do and our plan is to escape." Meanwhile Holdo's people finds a dead body. The real Rose Tico and then Poe realizes Finn is alone at the spy's mercy.

Upon arriving on The Supremacy, Rose signaled Hux and Phasma, which causes their capture. As they get captured. While Finn and DJ are forced on their knees, Rosita shows her true colors as she shoots DJ and salutes to Hux. “Just as planned, my general”

Her mission was a success. Finn only managed to escape due to the Holdo maneuver.

She becomes the right hand and lover of General Hux

Rosita would keep the appearance of Rose Tico because she’s grown “accustomed” to Rose’s face. Only looking more regal, wearing her hair down and wearing First Order uniforms.

Next Hux and Rosita plan to kill Pryde and after Kylo Ren and Rey kill The Emperor. Hux and Rosita will kill the traitorous Kylo Ren, Rey and then FN-2187, thus securing their and The First Order’s dominance over the galaxy. Long live the Supreme Leader and his Empress!

Grand Master Luke,

I feel like you can have the great character arc of TLJ, while also being badass like he was in The Mandalorian.

First have it be ANAKIN, not Yoda who helps Luke out of his slump.

Have Luke lift the X-Wing from the water.

When Finn about to make his sacrifice, and suddenly, we hear the blast of an old X-Wing destroying the siege cannon. Thus saving Finn, Rose and The Resistance. Finally we see Luke and Leia’s moment. This time it actually holds meaning because Luke is actually there. And then we would see the bulkhead open and Luke enters.

Kylo Ren orders every ship to fire on Luke AT-M6’s all firing but to everyone’s surprise, all blasts stop frozen in midair. Luke wipes the salt off his robes and sends the turbolasers right back at the AT-M6s and TIE-Fighters. Brings down the transports and Kylo’s shuttle. Kylo descends from his crushed shuttle, throwing a tantrum and preparing preparing to kill his uncle. We have a real lightsaber battle between Luke and Kylo. Luke has his green lightsaber. Their blades clash. Their dialogue remains the same, but Luke is there. Luke is toying with Kylo, similar to how Vader toyed with him on Bespin. Luke and Kylo’s exchange remains the same. “I failed you Ben, I’m sorry.” “I’m sure you are! The Resistance is dead. The war is over, and when I kill you, I will have killed the last Jedi.” “Amazing. Every word of what you just said was wrong. The Rebellion is reborn today. The war is just beginning. And I will not be the last Jedi.” ”I’ll destroy her, and you, and all of it.” “No. Strike me down in anger and I’ll always be with you. Just like your father.” Kylo then shouts “NOOOOOO” but more dramatic When Kylo makes his dramatic slut ™ lunge at Luke, but Luke embraces it like Obi-Wan did and becomes one with the force.

He dies with peace and purpose and most importantly refuses to give Ben the victory he craved for and mocks him by saying he will always be with him.

Luke spreads Leia's message.

Towards the end of the film, two of the Resistance members tells Leia, “Our distress signal’s been received at multiple points, but no response. They’ve heard us, but no one’s coming.”

After waiting two films to see what any of this means to the galaxy, the only response we get is literally nothing. Nobody cares, nobody’s coming. For all we know, this planet could explode right now, wiping out the Resistance and the First Order, and the entire galaxy would be better off. They have no impact on anything of actual importance, like children fighting in a sandbox.

In my mind, much of the bitterness in my mouth by the time the finale came up could have been washed away with one simple change (technically two but who cares):

Luke does his “See ya around, kid,” line and vanishes, followed immediately by a massive fleet appearing in the planet’s orbit. Ships of all different sizes and shapes, from countless planets throughout the galaxy, uniting and standing up to the First Order for once. They don’t even have to attack, just show up and fire a few shots to blow up a few walkers or something as the First Order retreats in a panic. Luke also isn’t dead. Instead of just buying 3 seconds to retreat deeper into a cave, we find out that he appeared as a “force hologram” to several major leaders in the galaxy, calling them to arms. He then bought the Resistance time to hold out until help arrived.

This gives SEVERAL intriguing leads for the next film.

We see the galaxy fully united against this threat. To see a legitimate fleet and to see that the galaxy really does give a shit about what’s happening, would literally be the first hopeful thing we see in this entire goddamn trilogy that’s supposedly all about “hope.” Think something on the level of the Rohirrim and Gandalf riding in at the end of Helm’s Deep.

Luke is alive and now rallying people to stand up to the First Order. His meager prank is supposed to inspire the galaxy? If you want to inspire them, you NEED to put in more leg work than that. We need to see that Luke gives a shit and has truly accepted the mantle he’s been rejecting the entire trilogy. His final act in this film could be EVERY BIT AS MEANINGFUL without him just giving up and dying afterwards, if not far more so.

We can see how desperate the First Order gets in the third movie. After taking so many beatings, this militant faction seems to suffer no actual losses. To see them reduced to guerrillas in need of a last resort - to see how dangerous they can be at their most desperate - would be a refreshing and interesting twist on something that has now been done to death.

Lando the Master Codebreaker

Let’s look at Maz’s description for the Master Codebreaker “He’s a master codebreaker, an ace pilot, a poet with a blaster.” That sure does sound like fucking Lando to me. It still baffles me that they gave us a casino planet in TLJ but then chose to not include Lando in that setting although he was introduced as a gambler back in TESB. Lando is the person Finn and Rose are meant to meet, the one in the Indiana Jones type tuxedo and has the a red plom bloom. Only, Finn and Rose actually parks legally and doesn’t get stupidly arrested. Lando is on Canto Bight to grieve in his own way for Han, but also because he’s doing a stakeout on Crime Lord King Prana(played by Benico del Toro and King Prana was set up by being the guy Han was gonna sell Raftars to) Finn and Rose help Lando out and in exchange, Lando helps Finn and Rose in their quest to disable the Hyperspace Tracker. We also get to see Lando and FInn both grieve for Han. So yes, Lando would be able to disable the Hyperspace tracker, but Phasma would catch them on their way to the escape pods.

Lando brings the remnants of the New Republic after hearing Leia’s message. After Leia’s signal and Luke’s sacrifice, Hux informs Kylo Ren that they have the Falcon in their sights(keep in mind they have their fleet in orbit) a massive fleet appearing in the planet’s orbit. Ships of all different sizes and shapes, from countless planets throughout the galaxy, lead by Lando Calrissian flying his flagship the Lady Luck! Uniting and standing up to the First Order for once. They don’t even have to attack, just show up and fire a few shots to blow up a few walkers or something as the First Order retreats in a panic. Prior to Luke’s sacrifice. we find out that he appeared as a hologram to several major New Republic leaders in the galaxy, calling them to arms. He then bought the Resistance time to hold out until help arrived. Together with Leia’s signal and Luke’s message. New The Republic is united in facing The First Order.

Rey and Luke vs Kylo and Knights of Ren.

The rumored scene we all wanted. Kylo uses his newfound connection to Rey to find her and summons the Knights. She will not escape this time.

Rey in the meantime helps Luke to reestablish his connection to the force, alongside the force ghosts.

And then they arrive.

Rey fights the Knights, while Luke fights Kylo.

The fight is raw and full of emotion, but it ends with Kylo wounding Luke and abducting Rey. Meanwhile The Resistance has a space battle above led by Leia and Snoke via Battle meditation. Leia's will vs Snoke's might. The fight for her brother and Snoke's fight to snuff out the light. It ends with the Twins reunited by the vow to save Rey via training Finn.

Leia sacrifices herself

We had no way of knowing of Carrie's unfortunate passing. But I feel like it should have been Leia.

Leia should have been the one to destroy Snoke's ship with a final sacrifice. It would have closed her story on both a badass and meaningful note, dying to save her rebellion.

They should have done it so that she didn't have long to live anyway due to her injuries from the bridge explosion and exposure to space. With all that, she decides to give her friends a final escape. Before doing so, she could have reached out to Luke with the force for a final goodbye, the same way they communicated on Bespin in the Empire Strikes Back. This would have reminded people that communicating via the Force over long distances has precedent.

This act would have inspired Luke to actually come out of hiding, raising his X-Wing from the sea and coming to help the new characters.

It would have also made the Mary Poppins scene at least a little more worth it, seeing as she flies through the hologram of Snoke's ship, setting up the sacrifice.

As for how Holdo fits into things? Both Poe and Holdo get their heads out their asses and learn to work together for the Resistance, the Republic and for Leia!

Finn is never in a coma and goes with Rey to Ach-To

Rey and Finn travel to Ach-To together. Finn is never placed in a coma. Shocker, they are in a futuristic setting and give Finn a cybernetic spine and Finn makes a full recovery! Finn goes with Rey...like he should've in the first place!

Luke trains Rey and Finn to become a Jedi. Rey and FInn’s optimism and dedication reminds him of himself. Finn is proven to have what it takes to be on the path of a Jedi, meanwhile Rey is struggling and is giving in to her rage and passions. This leads to the force bond between Rey and Kylo Ren and leads Kylo and the Knights Of Ren to Ach-To. Rey, Finn and Luke face Kylo and the Knights Of Ren. Rey willingly goes with Kylo to save Finn and Luke and the rest of the story is about Finn saving Rey no matter what the cost

Anakin, not Yoda greets Luke

Yoda appearing to Luke in TLJ to tell him “failure, the greatest teacher is,” is bullshit. Yoda never learned this lesson to begin with. Yoda is the last person who should be saying anything like this to Luke.

Treated Anakin like a burden ever since Anakin entered the Council chambers as a child

Refusal to trust Anakin. As a child, he was told he would be a problem and Yoda and the Jedi’s refusal to nurture Anakin because he was “too old” to be indoctrinated by their code was their undoing. There is a quote that sums up the Jedi’s cold reception to Anakin perfectly. “The Child Who is Not Embraced by the Village Will Burn it Down to Feel its Warmth”

Refused to let Anakin to free his mother, one of the things that played into Anakin’s fall(Isn’t it weird and by weird I mean hypocritical that the Jedi found value in saving Clones, who were made to be disposable, but they couldn’t be bothered to save Shmi, Anakin’s actual mother?)

Is perfectly fine helping Ahsoka with her vision of a loved one dying, but suddenly Anakin needs to let go

Dude was okay befriending the most evil guy ever but he had no compassion or even a kind word for a 9 years boy who was about to be returned to slavery? Fuck him! For that and for allowing the Order to remain subservient to a known corrupt Senate that allowed slavery and organized crime to grown unrestrained. 

Raising students who capable of only blindly following him (“One did not argue with Master Yoda; in the Jedi Temple, this was learned in infancy. No Jedi ever forgot it.”) and for creating a community that ostracized anyone who didn’t perfectly fit in.

He failed generations of students, he failed the Order, he failed the Council, the Senate and the galaxy. Yoda can be traced as the source of everything that went wrong (internally) with the Order: their coldness, their false detachment, their corruption, etc. He was the common denominator in 900 years worth of religious, political and educational stagnation. Yoda’s inability to change and question himself doomed the Order (and the galaxy with it)

Even worse, Yoda intended to die without explaining that Vader was his father to Luke. In a deleted scene Yoda says “Obi-Wan would have told you long ago had I let him…..” Basically, Yoda had forbidden Obi-Wan from telling Luke that Darth Vader was his father. Luke was then trained in the Jedi arts to eventually face and kill Vader with the intention of never disclosing the important detail of Luke’s paternity despite Obi-Wan’s apparent objection to the idea. This revelation reveals Yoda is actually a self-serving dick who puts the means to an end above morality while redeeming Obi-Wan for the reasoning of why he lied to Luke about his father.

Yoda did not learn this lesson. Yoda refused to see his own faults or the faults of the Jedi of old. Yoda did not earn this moment.

You know who would have been the perfect person to tell Luke that failure is the greatest teacher? His father, Anakin Skywalker. If anyone deserved that moment, it was Anakin Skywalker. Both because this should have been his chance to speak with his son AND because when someone is the embodiment of the failures of the Jedi Order, they’re really the one best qualified to call out the bullshit of that organization. Anakin would’ve been the best person to tell Luke to confront Kylo, his grandson. He knows failure more than anyone. Failing to save his mother, failing to save Padme, his failure into giving into the dark side and his fall. Anakin would’ve told him. “It wasn’t your fault what happened to Ben, I’m asking you to come back and save your sister, my daughter. Leia needs you. You never gave up on me. Don’t give up on your friends, your sister or even yourself. You saved me when I thought all was lost, there is still time to make things right. Remember you are a Jedi, like me. Not the last of the old Jedi, Luke. The first of the new.“

Hello! My ask is about The Rise Of Skywalker. I would like to read your analysis of Reylo's scenes such as their dialogues in the film, Rey's declaration to Ben ("I did want to take your hand. Ben's hand."), Ben's return to the light side and the reylo kiss. The declaration, Ben's return and the kiss, for me, are the only good things about this film.

I thought all of the Rise of Skywalker was really terrible. Terrible writing, terrible plot, and even some pretty terrible characterizations. (I thought the actors did their best, though.)

Basically, ROS had several threads that TLJ and TFA had braided together. All it needed to do was tie those threads off. But instead, it unraveled them and tangled them up and said “done! All tied up!”

For example:

Thread 1: Finn’s journey from fear to faith.

Thread 2: Leia’s hope for her son.

Thread 3: Poe’s journey from hero to leader.

Thread 4: Hux’s growing, rabid desire for control. (It’s why the organization’s called the First “ORDER”)

Thread 5: Kylo Ren’s learning that power won’t make him feel secure.

Thread 6: Rey’s learning that she doesn’t need to be “somebody” because it’s all about something bigger than herself.

Thread 7: Kylo Ren and Rey learning their respective lessons by finding the answers in each other.

TLJ took what TFA started and got you those threads. Then TROS said “never mind, we don’t like those threads” with most of them. For example, Poe and Finn suddenly have nothing to do. For example, Finn is not doing anything that requires the faith he began building at the end of TLJ; he’s just following Rey around. Poe is not learning how to lead, he’s just info-dumping and trying quick three-man hero missions, unlike the lesson he learned at the end of TLJ. Hux is not strategizing with rabid extremism for control; he’s just pettily throwing his life away to get back at Kylo Ren. Et Cetera. The threads all get unraveled or tangled up or left dangling uselessly.

EXCEPT for Thread 7.

They make an attempt at “Kylo Ren and Rey learning their respective lessons by deepening their bond.” The problem is, without the other threads, that one just doesn’t fit any better than the rest of the story.

First off, I 100% agree that Kylo Ren and Rey would be involved romantically, in some way, eventually. There’s literally no way around it. Romantic attachment is choosing to commit to someone on an intimate level. Because they’re Force Bonded, and because they are the only people in the universe who have similar identity crises and deep family-related angst, they were bound to intimately understand each other. They started caring about each other in TLJ. All TROS had to do was fan the flames of that care up in a way that led to their character developments concluding.

Rey just needed to demonstrate more of the letting-go she demonstrated at the end of TLJ: she wants Kylo Ren to be Light, but she realizes there’s nothing she can do to force it, even if she begs and pleads, so she just keeps doing the right thing on her end and trusts the Force, believing he’ll come to the right conclusion in the end no matter how much evil he’s done. What’s that ladies and gentlemen? It’s called ✨ unconditional love. ✨

Then Kylo Ren just needed to see that love. Literally, just see and continuously experience it. Even if he’s trying to hunt her down and kill her or take everything from her or whatever, she just keeps refusing to kill him and believing he’ll turn good. After all, that’s more than his parents did for him back when they sent him away—and since then, whatever unconditional love Rey shows him is strengthened by the examples of unconditional love Han Solo and Luke showed right before they died. Plus the alternative to accepting unconditional love—murdering everything that might give him a sense of power—hasn’t been making him feel any better. So he was primed for redemption via Rey.

That’s all they needed to do in TROS. Not so hard, just write a reason for her to save his life or spare it again, even after their previous encounter and even given his new status as Supreme Leader. He’s halfway there. Continued pushes are all that’s needed.

Just like Luke Skywalker in the Revenge of the Sith, Rey and Kylo Ren don’t really need to develop much more in the final movie of their trilogy. They just need to put what the first two movies taught them to a big final test.

Anyway. With that in mind:

Let me give you the bite-sized version 😅

The Force-Searching Scenes - I don’t like these because they’re all Kylo Ren searching for Rey, with little to no engagement from her. She feels more like she’s given up on him in these scenes and is just trying to win an argument whenever he barges into her brain. He, on the other hand, might be looking for her, but it’s with one hand on his grandfather’s mask. Which is totally the opposite of him “letting the past die. Kill it, if you have to.” So he’s taking weird steps backward, toward TFA, as if TLJ never happened… and that tarnishes his motives for finding Rey, in my mind. If he’s going back to trusting the past and the idea of his grandfather, then why does he want to turn Rey to the dark side? When Vader failed to turn Luke, he tried to murder him. Kylo Ren knows that. So meditating on a mask he should be giving up on in order to find and turn Rey makes no sense, so it takes the tension out of those scenes for me.

Fight Scenes - Again, it makes no sense that Kylo Ren would still be pursuing turning Rey to the dark side so doggedly. Neither of them could convince the other at the end of TLJ. They split a lightsaber in half to prove it. Now, that doesn’t mean they should be giving up on each other completely. But Kylo Ren should be acting like he’s given up on her, even if just to convince himself. That’s what he’s done this whole time: turned to killing the people who fail him to make himself feel more powerful. She has a reason to keep believing in him: she’s on the Light Side of the Force. But instead, she’s the one acting like she wants nothing more to do with him. He mentions how he’s going to turn her to the dark side multiple times in the movie. But she doesn’t say more than one quipped question hinting that she still wants him on the light side. So the “attachment” focus of their fights loses all it’s tension because again, it doesn’t make sense. After TLJ, he should be at least trying to give up on her and pursue killing her, if anything. And she should be steadfastly believing in him, while pursuing doing the right thing no matter what he does. That’s where they were in their character development. More fighting barely makes sense.

Healing Scene - I liked this scene only when Rey heals Kylo Ren. Their fight beforehand, and her ramming his lightsaber into him, still makes no sense. She’s angry at him because of her connection to Palpatine and she’s fighting him like that’s going to exorcise her identity…but Rey being a dark, angry descendant of Palpatine never made sense (it unravels her whole character development.) So her motivations in this scene don’t make sense…until she heals him. Then, suddenly, there’s a glimpse of that Rey we left on the Millenium Falcon in TLJ: she’s healing him, even though he might just stand up and attack her again, because she genuinely believes he’s Ben and she just needs to show him mercy until he comes around to believing it. And THAT is part of what turns him. So I like that: I just think it was executed really poorly. She should never have been healing him from a wound she caused.

The Kiss - The kiss was just basically the TROS storytellers confirming that they were romantically attached instead of just enemies-to-friends/Allie’s attached. Because…for some reason they had to confirm that visually. I just think, again, that they didn’t set it up and execute it well. They have no conversations and no significant attention paid toward each other between the healing scene and the final battle. They might be force-linked, but the audience needed to see that bond turned romantic, or him turned good before any overt romantic gestures, much earlier on. Other than that, I like that he healed her. I love Adam Driver’s acting in that whole scene. Makes me wish they gave him more to do.

The Death Scene - This should not have happened. It was lazy. Kylo Ren is a character who has been trying to fulfill himself by making BIG, final (emphasis on “final”) choices. Having him make one more big final choice, to end his own life, was not good character development. He should’ve had to live with what he’d done so he could learn from his mistakes. That’s where his whole character was headed. He’s always failed to learn from his past: he thinks he can just erase it. You know what giving up your life for a different hero and then fading away is? It’s nice, but it’s just another “erase” choice. Additionally? It’s terrible for Rey’s story, too. She finally had someone she chose, someone she waited for who actually came back, somebody who understood her…somebody who’s redemption rewarded her long faith…and she’s left alone again. That’s just the worst. Plus, what did she need him to heal her for? What exactly did she die of? He was way more injured than she was.

What they should’ve done was, Kylo Ren and Rey save the day, and then he’s condemned to death for his crimes by the New Republic, but in honor of Leia’s life of sacrifice and belief in him, he’s given enough of a pardon to simply be banished to the unknown reaches. And Rey goes with him, because she can finally stop waiting, she loves seeing the galaxy, and they can learn about the Force together…plus, they’re obviously deeply connected. And that would be a great homage to Leia’s legacy as a character who never gives up on hope, and that hope is ultimately rewarded. Instead of having her give her life to reach him…so he can live for an hour or so before also dying.

Long story short…you’re right! I just think all the elements you liked should’ve been way more central, built up to, and placed where they fit in a better movie!

🦀- Hux was all of the above at the same time. He didn’t want to be in love but he can’t deny it either. He hates that he’s in love, he hates even more he’s in love with Kylo. But he’s nervous about what it means? Where it will go? He can’t possibly like him back right? And all of that makes him embarrassed. How could he be so weak? How could he be so infatuated with Kylo fucking Ren.

Kylo on the other hand was mad before he figured out what he was feeling, but when he fighters out it was love, every thing clicked and made sense. He’s nervous at first thinking Hux doesn’t like him back, but a little birdy called the force revealed Hux’s secret so he started making a move and now he’s mad again because Hux keeps denying it and pushing him away.

🦋- oh a very VERY long time. None of them know how to do this. They still get in frequent arguments, they have terrible communication. Even after getting together they’re still embarrassed nervous and mad about it. They eventually did find a way that works. They still struggle with communication but they know how to own up when their wrong, their comfortable enough to be casual and know that if they argue it won’t tear them apart, and it works.

💧- They both try, but earlier on in the relationship they’re not very good at it. Hux doesn’t really know how to be emotionally available, nor does he like to be, so he’s very awkward when trying to comfort someone and he doesn’t know how to handle crying. And this can make Kylo feel like he doesn’t care. But later in the relationship Hux finds a way to show affection though his actions if Kylo’s having a bad day he’ll do something for him, make him something, take him out somewhere. And Kylo knows he still struggles with verbal affection so aperciates his efforts.

Kylo Is the opposite of Hux he wants to do everything for Hux, fix everything immediately. But earlier in the relationship Hux hates being venerable around him, he would never allow such affections. And if Kylo keeps pushing it makes him angry and then they argue and it makes it worse. Of course this changes later in the relationship, hux is still reserved and shy when he’s upset but Kylo knows not to ask how to fix things or ask if he wants him to be there he just needs to do. He needs to give him time hold him, tell him everything will be okay and he won’t protest much

Much is said about how it is to work for The First Order, how incredible the power, leadership, victories and how they are conquering colonies are, but it is the dead soldiers, the different families who lose their children, and their homes.

The workers of the smaller classes of the first order, those who build the ships, the weapons, and the workers who clean the floors of those who don't even look at us, but when they do, it's with a look of contempt, as if we were freaks, or like a One of them said to me once: "You, I bet you're one of those savages that came from the colonies, third world beings, dumb by nature." Soon you can hear the laughter of your companions, I still remember your smug smile and that look: "But I think I've seen you in my homeland before the attacks, you have similar traits to mine, sir." It was the first time I responded to a superior, and probably the last because immediately afterwards I was punched in the face, the shock was instantaneous and the blood ran down my nose staining my lips, the punch was corresponding to a warning, because how did he he said" "Because if I wanted to, you'd be dead already, you bitch."

I think that's where my fear expanded, always being a fearful child, and over the years I only became insecure, after the invasions of the First Order it ended up making everything worse. My father, by a miracle, managed to keep the family together, he started working as a mechanic in one of the facilities, thus pulling me along to work and support the house, sometimes I helped him with repairs on some machines, or carrying parts, as the months went by. I got a job cleaning the ship, that's where my first contact with superiors came from, even seeing the Supreme Leader. It was terrifying, after a long Council meeting, near the cabins you could hear screams and broken machine parts falling to the floor, the noise scared all the employees around.

"Good heavens, not again.." I turn to look at the person responsible for the comment, it was Korys, an old lady who worked with me cleaning this sector: "What... what do you mean again? What's happening in there?". Even before he responded, the doors opened, his furious exit with heavy footsteps disturbing the sound of the environment that was previously calm, now terribly nervous. There he was with his mask, completely distraught, walking with heavy steps, scaring the people around him. Seeing it for the first time gave me a frightening first impression, as if it were death passing in front of me. In addition to the sound of his boots that were loud, my heart accelerated, in my head everyone could hear the sound of him jumping out, I was terrified, I couldn't even move, Korys with her sweet heart, held my hand. When he finally turned to another hallway, I could breathe again: "My dear, you have turned pale, is everything okay?" "I..I'm fine, was that the Supreme Leader?" Tilting his head gently: "That way, who else would be..." "You two, the room is free for cleaning, when you're done, return to your proper duties."

How can I say that the room was completely destroyed, pure fruit of chaos, anger being taken out on machines, at least not on living beings, right? The cleaning took hours, it seemed like it would never end, there were pieces after pieces and there wasn't much to save, everything was in pieces. The window had some scratches as if he had thrown a chair at it, at least it wasn't broken and the view of the starry sky was divine amidst the chaos of this room.

Pacing back and forth he ignored you calling his name, he always did when he was like this, so stressed that he wouldn't process the things around him, but he had an entire empire to worry about, he had to keep an eye on rebels, uprisings, any form of defiance that didn't come from you was a threat to everything he had worked for, and all of it for you no matter how many times you told him you didn't need the best of the best to be happy he'd never listen, and eventually he'd work himself into an early grave if he didn't learn how to take breaks and relax soon, which is where you come in.

Eventually you got fed up with just calling his name and waving a hand in front of him, he was to far off in his own world, almost as if he was in another dimension entirely. You approach him head on, placing a hand on his chest to get him to stop pacing. He raised his line of sight to meet your eyes, he seemed half present now which was an improvement but still not the goal, he seemed almost lost as he breathing continued on erratically.

He seemed to slowly be coming back to you as you led him over to the couch, having to put pressure on his should to get him to sit, his leg immediately started bouncing. Had you been anyone else he would be showing his stress using anger instead. If there had been any one else in the room when you came running to him they would've been pinned to the ceiling, forcefully quieted. in his eyes no one was good enough to speak in your presence, not even him. You were his empress even if it wasn't your official title, he had plans to insure that it would be, but first he had to secure the empire as a whole. He couldn't just let you represent a failing empire, it had to be good enough for his empress and he was determined to have it ready soon but he kept facing set back after setback. All he wanted was to show you that he could be useful.

He felt like a disappointment, he had failed you, and watching you take care of him felt wrong, if you had known how badly he messed up you'd leave him, he knew you would and he felt terrible for letting you comfort him, he felt like a fraud, in the time it took him to degrade himself and shrink back into his mind you had prepared some tea for him, the kind his mother used to make. It brought tears to his eyes, knowing that you loved him unconditionally and took the time to remember the off handed comments he'd made once upon a time about tea with his mother, sometimes he felt as if you knew him better than he knew himself, you'd sworn up and down that you didn't have any force abilities but he never completely believed you because it felt to him as if you had run through his memories and planted yourself in his dreams.

Your hand on his back brought him back to reality, your touch so gentle he questioned if it was there in the first place. He took the drink you had made him, the warmth in his hands helping to keep him out of his mind. After taking a drink from his cup he set it down and leaned into you with all his body weight causing the two of you to fall back on the couch with him trying to curl into your chest and hide in your neck, he placed his hands on your hips, firm but not painful, he felt as if you'd evaporate if he let go, luckily you had caught on and carded your fingers through his hair, eventually adding small braids once he'd fallen asleep.

You figured he'd take them out before work the next morning but he didn't, he wanted to carry a reminder of you at all times and what better than a piece of him that you had somehow made beautiful in his eyes. Soon enough it became a ritual, every night when he got home from burning worlds and reminding the resistance that they didn't stand a chance he'd sit down on the floor in front of your spot on the couch and you take out the previous days braids and replace them with new ones, often adding small charms and every night he would eventually fall asleep with your hands in his hair just for you to wake him up and lead him to bed where he'd curl against you once again until his coms would go off, demanding he get dressed and go deal with whatever pressing matter presented itself.

@Huxloween Day 1: Bonfire

Kylo watched the flames flicker, an odd sense of calm hanging in the air. Not too far off from him was Hux, who looked just as content in their shared moment.

"It's... quite strange." Kylo began. "We've been out here for a while, and yet not once have you had anything to say about my work performance." Kylo spoke in that usual monotone voice of his, the one that Hux hated. Hux sighed. "I was hoping you wouldn't speak of it. You didn't do terribly for once. This fire is pleasant. You did an almost efficient job of it." The ginger's compliment was a bit backhanded with his phrasing, but Kylo took it. "That's quite the confession." Kylo let out a small laugh of disbelief before continuing. "You flatter me, General."

Hux let out a scoff but didn't wish to encourage Ren by responding to what seemed to be another test of his ire. Instead, he kept his greyish blue eyes on the flames. They reminded him a lot of Ren. Dangerous. Unpredictable. Destructive. Untamed. Yet beautiful. Hux wrinkled his nose at that last thought, deciding that he had to snap them out of the moment before his mind wandered to matters he felt were trivial- like affection of any kind. Especially for Ren, who went against everything he stood for with a purpose. The General cleared his throat and forced his attention away from the dancing flames. "As lovely as this was, however, we need to report back to the Supreme Leader." Hux said, looking down at his comm in a way that told Kylo that their time was now up. This felt right to Hux, not the pointless complication of a rivalry that was already layered in complexity. They'd step onto the ship like normal and bicker again by the start of their next work cycle.

A part of Kylo wanted to stay longer and enjoy the peace he found out here, but he knew it was time to return home. Despite his pause of hesitation, he agreed, turning his sight towards where their shuttle was already awaiting their arrival.

Besides, the village had been on fire for long enough that most of the structures had already begun to fall apart. The fun was over, leaving nothing but ash in their wake. He left in quick, heavy steps with Hux, leaving the raging and uncontained "bonfire" to collect the rest of the traitorous souls trapped within.

Redar's hardy, harsh and punctilious. He was born and grew up in a successful family in an average capital, he lived comfortably until he was about 14 years old, but at that point things took a turn for the worst.

He lost his home when it was destroyed after a fight which got out of control and was headed for a life of misery. With no one by his side he had to survive in a cruel world. He was found by a Jedi, who offered his help and promised him to become a great warrior. With his vigor and wits, he managed to overcome all odds and overpower anybody who's a hinderance and become a Jedi.

After the Treaty of Coruscant the Jedi Council began looking for Sith infiltrators within their ranks; an actual infiltrator framed Redar’s master as one, leading to his death. Redar was scheduled to be sent to the AgriCorps but the infiltrator instead arranged for him to be sent to Korriban where he was taken captive and, over the next ten years, retrained as a Sith.

He met Obi-Wan during the battle, the tension between them could cut through a knife, but Obi-Wan recognised him, he was a Jedi once after all, eventually the master Jedi started catching feelings for the Sith and tries to see some good within him. Even though he knows that attachment is forbidden for Jedi, he cannot fight his feelings towards his enemy. Redar makes him question his loyalty and that messes with his mind, makes him scattered. But he knows that Redar only needs to say the word and he'll do everything for him and the Sith definitely knows it and takes advantage of it.

Hela Skywalker

Five years after the Battle of Endor, Hela Skywalker was born. Her mother died in childbirth, so Hela was left with Luke, who did his best to give his daughter a good childhood. And a few more time later Luke taught her how to control the force, being Anakin's granddaughter, her force, just like her father's is strong, but it took her a while to fully be able to control it.

Later on she left to join Leia and The Rebels to fight against The Dark Side of The Galaxy. No one knows that she's a Jedi (except Leia and Luke) until Poe figured it out.

Oh and she also had to fight her own cousin, Kylo Ren, who chose the dark side, she'd be lying if she wasn't devastated by that fact since her and Kylo were inseparable as kids and now she had to fight him so he wouldn't be able to kill everyone :)

While persued by the authority he had to survive in a vicious world. But with his skills and determination, he managed to overpower anybody who's a hinderance and battle the elements. This has turned him into the man he is today.

While haunted by memories of the past, he now works as a bounty hunter. By doing so, he hopes to support a new, honest life and finally find joy and love for life he has never had.

He met Din and Grogu during a job which, coincidentally, they ended up having together. Din at first was relieved to see another Mandalorian, but his hopes were crushed the second Val took off his helmet, he immediately demanded that Val took off the armour and hand it over to him, since he's not worthy of it. Val of course didn't do any of that, saying that he came from a family of Mandalorians and that the armour belonged to his father. After, what felt like hours, of arguing Val got to keep his armour and decided to join the two, Din wasn't really happy about it but he needed all the help he could get to keep Grogu safe.

Can’t stop thinking about Star Wars…

The Original Trilogy is about forgiveness and love. How love can help people who everyone thinks are too far gone. How you can choose to be good at any point, even if you’ve done terrible things. You can make the choice to change your behaviour and become maybe not a good person and definitely not a perfect person, but a better person than you were just a moment ago.

Thinking about how the Prequel Trilogy feeds into this. Anakin makes choices throughout, and he feels unmoored. He feels like he has to hide. He does hide. He hides from the people who can help him, the Jedi, because he can only see how he’s imperfect and they’re perfect, he can’t see their flaws. He loves Padme and Obi-Wan but that love tears him apart and he stops feeling safe anywhere. He loses everything he loved, from his home to his mother to his Master to his wife, and that makes his final choice in the Original Trilogy, his choice to do something good, all the more meaningful because we know him. We know he isn’t perfect and we know he’s capable of committing atrocities, but he chose not to. He chose to sacrifice himself for someone, instead of wishing someone would sacrifice themself for him.

The Sequel Trilogy had so much potential. But, there was no plan. And that’s the most diappointing part. The original and prequel trilogies have flow, they make sense, they connect intrinsically to each other and they only strengthen each other. The sequels just don’t flow, they don’t connect, they feel disjointed.

If Rey had to be Palpatine’s granddaughter, I think it would have made more sense for her to be the Vader mirror instead of Ben Solo. If Rey had been raised and groomed as Palpatine’s next apprentice, if she had been taught that Jedi = bad and democracy = bad, but Palpatine ruling everything = good, if she was a Sith from the beginning, but she chose not to be? That would tie in to the first trilogy a lot better.

Especially because they could have used the psychometry they gave her. She could have found Anakin’s lightsaber and felt heart break. She could have seen all the terrible things that happened because of Anakin, because of Darth Vader, and she could have had a moment of realization that she can choose to be good. Especially if she didn’t find Anakin’s lightsaber, but Luke’s.

Rey could have been powerful because she was trained her whole life to be powerful. She could have been masculine because she was trained her whole life to be masculine. She could have been such a better antagonist than Kylo Ren was. And it’s all because of the choices the characters would make and the intention behind them.

When Ben Solo leaves everything behind, he lost everything, but it was his choice to do so. If Rey was in a situation where she was raised by Palpatine but decided to give up that life, her fear of losing everything hits a bit harder.

They could even have made the same story! Like, Rey leaves as a teenager and goes to Jakku to hide because nobody will look for her there, only to stumble on a droid from the Resistance and realize that this is her chance to do good. She could seek out Luke Skywalker, hoping that he’ll teach her how to be good instead of bad. She could kill Palpatine by throwing him down another reactor core.

You wouldn’t even have to change the other characters all that much, honestly. You could still have Kylo Ren, his bond with Rey would just be a bit different. Maybe they were groomed together for a period, maybe he was to be her replacement, either way, you could still have that, if you really wanted to.

You could have anything you want, because the sequel trilogy is the way it is and it’s not going to change just because I have opinions. I wish it was different. I wish the people who made it were allowed to care about it, to see it through to the end, all three movies, to make a plan at the start then follow it through to the end. I wish they’d been allowed time to revise and edit and do things better. I wish, I wish, I wish, but it’s not that way. And I just have to make my peace with that.

I have a prompt for one of the twins! Say Aries or Arild (you can choose which one) Got into a fight with Kylo and Hux over some ball they wanted to go to. They want to go, and their dad's are saying no, so one of them decides to sneak to the ball, only for them to have such a negative experience they run home crying to their dads.

The youngest of the First Order’s princes has the palace in uproar.

Approximately an hour ago, Emperor Hux went into Arild’s room to check on him after their unpleasant argument this evening but found his bed empty and his dress robes missing from his wardrobe. A speederbike has been stolen from the hangar. There is no doubt in the Emperor’s mind as to where his teenage son has disappeared to.

“The ball,” Hux says, face in his hands. “He’s gone to the ball across the city. The one that I told him that he was forbidden to go to. The leader of Doruen IV is hosting the damned thing, Ren. He despises us. If he finds out that our son is there, he’ll kill him. He won’t hesitate.”

Kylo steps up to his husband’s throne and falls to his knees before him, bowing his head. “We’ll find him, Hux. My Knights are already prepping my ship. Ari can’t have been gone long.”

Hux wishes he could believe his beloved Knight but his once -steady hands are shaking in balled-up fists, unnerved by his son’s disappearance. He and Kylo have faced danger before, they have fought tooth and nail against their enemies and nearly lost each other a few times but the fear that stirs like a storm in Hux’s belly is different than all of that; this is his son.

“Go,” Hux says, scrunching his eyes closed and pulling his hand free from Kylo’s hold. “Please find him, Ren.”

But as soon as the Hound stands and turns to exit the throne room, the large doors on the opposite side swish open and reveal the tired form of Arild Hux-Ren, standing in torn robes and covered in mud and leaves.

“Arild!” His parents cry out in unison, rushing towards him to take him into their arms, almost crushing the boy in the middle of their embrace.

“D-Dad. F-Father. Can’t breathe.”

Hux and Kylo pull away promptly but Hux quickly takes hold of his Ari’s shoulders, looking him up and down.

“Are you hurt? What happened? Why do you have half of the forest in your hair?” Hux gently pulls out a couple of crumpled leaves from Ari’s mess of brown curls,  checking for blood.

Tears stain the young lad’s cheeks. He sniffles, wiping his nose on the sleeve of his dress robes. The silk fabric is torn in multiple places, showing off grazes and cuts that litter his skin. Though he looks like he hasn’t sustained any terrible injuries, Hux doesn’t need to be Force-sensitive to be able to sense his son’s anguish.

“I wanted to go to the ball,” Ari says. “I wanted to see what it was like outside of the palace. I wanted to pretend to be someone else for the night and not just a prince. So I…stole a speederbike. And then I crashed it. And then they wouldn’t let me into the ball because I was a mess. So I tried to find another way in but I somehow started a fire in the gardens. I tried to alert someone but they knew who I was. They said your name, Father. They said some horrible things about you and Dad. So I ran. And now I’m here. And I’m so sorry for everything.”

The boy begins to cry, looking down to the ground so that his hair falls into his face but his parents have already seen his tears. His shoulders tremble as Hux takes him into his arms, pressing a kiss to the top of his head.

“I don’t care about any of that,” Hux says. “All I care about it that you’re home and you’re safe. Look at me, Ari. Do you understand?”

Ari bites his lip and suppresses a big sob. Through his curtain of fallen hair, he looks at Hux with heavy brown eyes—Kylo’s eyes. “Y-yes, Father.”

“There’s a good lad,” Hux says, and Kylo ruffles Ari’s hair. “Now, let’s get you to medbay. Are you alright to walk?”

“I think so.”

“I don’t,” Kylo says. “Come here.”

And Kylo turns around so that his son may hop onto his back and be carried piggyback-style across the palace.

Hux smiles, watching them go. Regardless of how old his boys are, they will always be his children.

Rewatching the Sequels; some notes

The sequels do a good job of showing how brutal the First Order is in a way the original trilogy never showed. These are supposed to be space not-sees and the sequels were the first to display their cruelty

Watch the Stormtrooper Paradox on YouTube, it explains my shared gripe of the idea that First Order stormtroopers are child soldiers being brushed off.

Kylo Ren is cool idgaf what anyone says. Phasma is cool. Hux is cool. Pryce is cool. The Praetorian Guard are cool. If you disregard everything else about Snoke he's cool. Btw they wasted Smoke, it would have taken one writers' meeting to come up with something better.

I didn't like how the Mandalorian just took Baby Yoda out of the plot line I thought wrapped everything up nicely but now I realise if Baby Yoda stayed with Luke then the implication is Ren killed him so nvm :)

Dave Filoni's work is really helping bridge the gap between the original and sequel trilogies

The battle of Crait although just a rehash of Empire Strikes Back is too cool to discount

The fact that Poe, Finn, and Rose's plan was the reason nearly half of the transports heading to Crait were destroyed was really interesting. If they hadn't separated they wouldn't have met DJ, and DJ wouldn't have told the First Order the plan. I wish they'd have given some guilt to the characters tho.

Holdo's sacrifice is super cool but I'm not sure about the scientifics of it all.

Being in the way of that battering ram should have given Finn some nasty burns at the very least, it was melting through metal.

Are Force projections mental or visual?? Because Ben and Rey could see each other but I don't think Luke saw Ben in the hut, which means it would have to be mental. Also C3PO saw the projection..? Palpatine had to be connecting Rey and Ben, not Snoke. If someone as powerful as Luke died by projecting himself, then there's no way Snoke would have had the power to connect two entirely different people.

Kylo Ren should have seen that the projection was fake because Luke has his lightsaber, which he snapped in half just thirty minutes ago. It could be miswritten, but I see it as Ren being so enraged that he didn't notice.

I wish they wouldn't have killed Luke, but I thought they did it right. I cried rewatching it, and I've seen the movie three times before this.

"Snoke trained you well." "I killed Snoke. I'll kill you." "You killed Snoke? Damn that's a shame, well good thing I got a jar of them right here!"

I don't mind force healing and blaster freezing, I just wish they'd tuck it into the story more neatly.

They did Rose dirty in ROS

I know Jakku already existed in legends, but Pasaana could have easily been Jakku or Tattooine.

Was the C3PO disrespect supposed to be funny? It wasn't.

Zorii should have died, her surviving literally served no purpose to the story, in fact he death would have served it better.

Domhnall Gleeson's acting is some of the best I've seen in Star Wars.

Rey Palpatine is stupid. It would have been nicer if Rey was just a nobody who became special because of her actions and determination, not bloodline.

Kylo Ren being stabbed by Rey and surviving actually makes sense because I can imagine the wound would be cauterised long enough for Rey to heal it

I think it would have been a satisfactory end if Rey and Ben Solo died

Some people are Finn x Rey, some people are Finn x Rose, we all know the truth is Finn x Poe

It's a shame Daisy Ridley's career hasn't had much luck, she's a good actor.

Rey should have said "Just Rey" in response to the old woman. She's taking agency of her own identity and not letting it be based off what other people tell her. She's not a Solo, she's not a Skywalker, she's not a Palpatine, she's her own person now.

The sequels just seem like they would have been better written by someone on AO3. They're not abysmally terrible, it's just hard to look past their shortcomings. The music, acting, and animation are the best parts.
