I was scrolling on Instagram and I started feeling sad. I already Know those photos aren’t necessarly a reflection of they real life. But the thing is they look so perfect and stunnig, everyphoto i watched was so way too good and the fact that Im in pajamas in a sunday afternoon its not helping. I just wanna say I feel sad bc Im not that kind of person who doesnt  take photos just for instagram (maintainig a feed) I take photos to keep memories, I also feel sad bc we had become a horrible society being forced (especially women) to look perfect in every moment and also posting that so people could admire you or envy you it doesnt matter if you are feeling lonely or sad, you can only posted what its perfect and eating disorders, depression, self harmed, sadness, are not incluide. I wish someday we could all be real, showing everything that our society have told us it is "flaw", what make us real and differentiates us from plastics dolls.

Project proposal- Photographing  Ourselves/Documentary - Ideas and development.

Concept:

When starting our documentary project i had no idea what to do so i looking into the Person, Personal and Place subjects into sections and thought about what would suit me more as well as something id like to show.

My first idea was to photograph a person, be it myself or a family member and was thinking of photographing a daily routine and after looking at someones daily routine for a couple of days and taking photos, pick the top ten things that was done and then choose the top 3 most done by that person but could also have chosen the top 3 that possibly everyone does in their day to day life. However this idea didn't interest me that greatly so the idea didn't stick.

I then had an idea to photograph a place that i was visiting for a weekend away, that i’d never been to before and i wanted to show the beauty of some of the locations not to far, that i went to also but that idea didn't stick as I didn't get photos in every place due to weather and camera dying. i would like to try something like this in the future, somewhat like a blogger and photographer.

My other idea was to photograph a place That means something to me but i wanted to show a different side to it. I thought about Gloucester because my partner is from there and i visit there very frequently and i wanted to capture the old and run down sort of side to the city. I first looked at the cathedral and shot the outside and the surrounding area but that didn't interest me too much, however walking back to the carpark after shooting i got a glimpse of some abandoned and somewhat burnt down, derelict buildings that somewhat still had lots of colour and life and decided to photograph them. Not too far from these buildings i found the cities old cinema and liked how the letters were falling off and decided to also capture some photos of that and thats where my idea then progressed.

Outcome:

The outcome of this is to gather some contact sheets from different shoots for example, Gloucester cathedral, Lulworth Cove etc. and when choosing my final location, to choose my top 10 images and then narrow it down to my top 3 that will tell a story

Research:

I visited Gloucester centre quite a few times to get a feel of what it was like and looked at some of the history and found each time i went, i found something different or inspirational and therefore got shooting. I found that what shooting outside, and wanting to get similar outcomes, i need to go out around the same time or same sort of light to get the best photos possible.

i found a photographer that i liked that fitted well with the project, his name was Demond Meek, he had a project called -slumbeautiful, and photographed old, abandoned buildings and made them look, prettier. he changed the contrast as well as the sharpness and made the photos less vibrant but still colourful and i found the images stunning.

Resources:

I used a mixture of my own DSLR (Nikon) as well as trying out the Canon EOS 5Dmkii and 6D with a standard 18-55mm(nikon) and 28-105mm (canon) len, keeping it in the bags until i actually found somewhere i wanted to photograph to stop attracting attention of others and to make things less intimidating if people were near the place of shooting. 

I had to make sure the outside lighting was right for everyphoto to get the best possible result also, so i kept an eye on the weather and went to the centre when the sky was at its dullest.
